49aa76b166 mtd: rawnand: do not execute nand_scan_ident() if maxchips is zero
Some driver (eg. docg4) will need to handle themselves the
identification phase. As part of the migration to use nand_scan()
everywhere (which will unconditionnaly call nand_scan_ident()), we add
a condition at the start of nand_scan_with_ids() to jump over
nand_scan_ident() if the maxchips parameters is zero, meaning that the
driver does not want the core to handle this phase.

d05a9524d7 mtd: rawnand: jz4740: Include gpio/consumer.h instead of gpio.h
GPIO consumers should no longer include <linux/gpio.h>, and instead
include <linux/gpio/consumer.h>.

Also, explicitly include <include/io.h> since it seems to be missing
after switching to <linux/gpio/consumer.h>.

This fixes a build error when selecting the driver without selecting
GPIOLIB, which can happen when COMPILE_TEST=y.

05b54c7bac mtd: rawnand: add hooks that may be called during nand_scan()
In order to remove the limitation that forbids dynamic allocation in
nand_scan_ident(), we must create a path that will be the same for all
controller drivers. The idea is to use nand_scan() instead of the widely
used nand_scan_ident()/nand_scan_tail() couple. In order to achieve
this, controller drivers will need to adjust some parameters between
these two functions depending on the NAND chip wired on them.

This takes the form of two new hooks (->{attach,detach}_chip()) that are
placed in a new nand_controller_ops structure, which is then attached
to the nand_controller object at driver initialization time.
->attach_chip() is called between nand_scan_ident() and
nand_scan_tail(), and ->detach_chip() is called in the error path of
nand_scan() and in nand_cleanup().

Note that some NAND controller drivers don't have a dedicated
nand_controller object and instead rely on the default/dummy one
embedded in nand_chip. If you're in this case and still want to
initialize the controller ops, you'll have to manipulate
chip->dummy_controller directly.

Last but not least, it's worth mentioning that we plan to move some of
the controller related hooks placed in nand_chip into
nand_controller_ops to make the separation between NAND chip and NAND
controller methods clearer.

7da45139d2 mtd: rawnand: better name for the controller structure
In the raw NAND core, a NAND chip is described by a nand_chip structure,
while a NAND controller is described with a nand_hw_control structure
which is not very meaningful.

Rename this structure nand_controller.

As the structure gets renamed, it is logical to also rename the core
function initializing it from nand_hw_control_init() to
nand_controller_init().

Lastly, the 'hwcontrol' entry of the nand_chip structure is not
meaningful neither while it has the role of fallback when no controller
structure is provided by the driver (the controller driver is dumb and
can only control a single chip). Thus, it is renamed dummy_controller.

760c435e0f mtd: rawnand: make subop helpers return unsigned values
A report from Colin Ian King pointed a CoverityScan issue where error
values on these helpers where not checked in the drivers. These
helpers can error out only in case of a software bug in driver code,
not because of a runtime/hardware error. Hence, let's WARN_ON() in this
case and return 0 which is harmless anyway.

317c6d9b69 mtd: rawnand: micron: Make ECC activation stateful
We currently don't store the on-die ECC state (enabled/disabled) which
might force us to re-disable the engine even if it's already been
disabled after we've read the page in raw mode to count the actual
number of bitflips.

Add an "enabled" field to struct micron_on_die_ecc to keep track of the
ECC state.

2301780711 mtd: rawnand: micron: Get the actual number of bitflips
The MT29F2Gxxx chips with 4bits/512byte on-die ECC let us know when
some bitflips were corrected by the on-die ECC, but they do not report
the actual number of bitflips that were present in the data+ECC chunk.

We initially decided to always return ecc->strength to avoid re-reading
the page in raw mode + comparing it to the corrected buffer to extract
the real number of bitflips, but this forces UBI to move data around as
soon as one bitflip is present in a page.

This not only wears the NAND out faster, but also degrades
performances, since reading a full PEB + writing it back to a different
PEB + erasing the old one is much more expensive than re-reading the
faulty page in raw mode and comparing it to the corrected buffer.
In most cases, the actual number of bitflips does not exceed the
bitflips threshold, and UBI won't have to move data around. Otherwise,
we can assume the time spent re-reading the page and doing the
comparison is negligible compared to the time UBI spends moving a full
PEB to another PEB.

Note that this logic is not applied to chips with 8bits/512byte on-die
ECC, because those chips provide fine-grained information (the maximum
error is 1 bit, and it will not force UBI to move blocks around at the
first bitflip).

dbc44edbf8 mtd: rawnand: micron: Fix on-die ECC detection logic
Basing the "mandatory on-die" detection on ID byte 2 does not work,
because Micron has plenty of NANDs using the same device ID code, and
not all of them have forcibly enabled on-die ECC.

Since the "Array Operation" feature does not provide the "ECC
enabled/disabled" bit when the ECC can't be disabled, let's try to use
the "ECC enabled/disabled" bit in the READ_ID bytes.

It seems that this bit is dynamically updated on NANDs where on-die ECC
can freely be enabled/disabled, so let's hope it stays at one when we
have a NAND with on-die ECC forcibly enabled.

Compile-testing this driver on x86 caused a link error:

ERROR: "__phys_to_dma" [drivers/mtd/nand/raw/qcom_nandc.ko] undefined!

The problem here is that the driver attempts to convert the physical
address into the DMA controller as a dma_addr_t and calls phys_to_dma()
to do the conversion.

The correct way to do the conversion is using the dma mapping interfaces.

6a943386ee mtd: rawnand: add default values for dynamic timings
Some timings like tBERS (block erase time), tCCs (change column setup
time), tPROG (page program time) and tR (page read time) are derived
from the ONFI parameter page. They are set in the SDR interface only
if the chip is ONFI compliant.

It makes these timings unreliable and prevent the driver to use one of
these four values with a non-ONFI chip.

Fix this situation by taking the highest possible value (or a default
one) value for each missing timing (stored as unsigned 16-bit entries in
the parameter page).

This makes tBERS and tPROG being ~65ms while typical values are at most
a few milliseconds. As these are timeouts, it is not impacting at all
the performances in nominal use.

tR maximum time and tCCS minimum time (delay to wait after a change
column) are set, according to the ONFI specification, to default 'slow'
values; respectively 200us and 500ns.

replace |= by += operations which are perfectly valid on pointers.

of inappropriate u32 <-> void * conversions (pointers are 64-bit large
on x86_64).

The comment in marvell_nfc_select_chip() about ndtr0 and ndtr1 didn't
reflect what the driver was doing.

The values of NDTR0 and NDTR1 are read from the registers at probe time
and a copy is retained in 'struct marvell_nand_chip'. If keep-config is
set in the DT properties, there are no other writers of these timing
variables so they can safely be used when the chip is selected.

As suggested by Miquel Raynal, simply remove the comment.

This patch restores the suspend and resume hooks that the old driver used
to have. Apart from stopping and starting the clocks, the resume callback
also nullifies the selected_chip pointer, so the next command that is issued
will re-select the chip and thereby restore the timing registers.

Factor out some code from marvell_nfc_init() into a new function
marvell_nfc_reset() and also call it at resume time to reset some registers
that don't retain their contents during low-power mode.

Without this patch, a PXA3xx based system would cough up an error similar to

9f43deee43 mtd: rawnand: qcom: erased page bitflips detection
NAND parts can have bitflips in an erased page due to the
process technology used. In this case, QCOM NAND controller
is not able to identify that page as an erased page.
Currently the driver calls nand_check_erased_ecc_chunk() for
identifying the erased pages but this won’t work always since the
checking is being with ECC engine returned data. In case of
bitflips, the ECC engine tries to correct the data and then it
generates the uncorrectable error. Now, this data is not equal to
original raw data. For erased CW identification, the raw data
should be read again from NAND device and this
nand_check_erased_ecc_chunk function() should be called for raw
data only.

Now following logic is being added to identify the erased
codeword bitflips.

1. In most of the cases, not all the codewords will have bitflips
   and only single CW will have bitflips. So, there is no need to
   read the complete raw page data. The NAND raw read can be
   scheduled for any CW in page. The NAND controller works on CW
   basis and it will update the status register after each CW read.
   Maintain the bitmask for the CW which generated the uncorrectable
   error.
2. Do raw read for all the CW's which generated the uncorrectable
   error.
3. Both DATA and OOB need to be checked for number of 0. The
   top-level API can be called with only data buf or OOB buf so use
   chip->databuf if data buf is null and chip->oob_poi if
   OOB buf is null for copying the raw bytes temporarily.
4. For each CW, check the number of 0 in cw_data and usable
   oob bytes, The bbm and spare (unused) bytes bit flip won’t
   affect the ECC so don’t check the number of bitflips in this area.

1dfac31a5a mtd: rawnand: denali: optimize timing parameters for data interface
This commit improves the ->setup_data_interface() hook.

The denali_setup_data_interface() needs the frequency of clk_x
and the ratio of clk_x / clk.

The latter is currently hardcoded in the driver, like this:

  #define DENALI_CLK_X_MULT       6

The IP datasheet requires that clk_x / clk be 4, 5, or 6.  I just
chose 6 because it is the most defensive value, but it is not optimal.
By getting the clock rate of both "clk" and "clk_x", the driver can
compute the timing values more precisely.

To not break the existing platforms, the fallback value, 50 MHz is
provided.  It is true for all upstreamed platforms.

6f1fe97bec mtd: rawnand: denali_dt: add more clocks based on IP datasheet
Currently, denali_dt.c requires a single anonymous clock, but
the Denali User's Guide requires three clocks for this IP:

 - clk: controller core clock

 - clk_x: bus interface clock

 - ecc_clk: clock at which ECC circuitry is run

This commit supports these named clocks to represent the real hardware.

For the backward compatibility, the driver still accepts a single clock
just as before.  The clk_x_rate is taken from the clock driver again if
the named clock "clk_x" is available.  This will happen only for future
DT, hence the existing DT files are not affected.

QCOM NAND controller layout protects available OOB data bytes with
ECC also so when ecc->write_oob() is being called then it
can't update just OOB bytes. Currently, it first reads the last
codeword which includes old OOB bytes. Then it updates the old OOB
bytes with new ones and then again writes the codeword back.
The reading codeword is unnecessary since user is responsible to
have these bytes cleared to 0xFF.

This patch removes the read part and updates the OOB bytes with
data area padded with OxFF.

8eab721488 mtd: rawnand: qcom: erased page detection for uncorrectable errors only
Following is the flow in the HW if controller tries to read erased
page:

1. First ECC uncorrectable error will be generated from ECC engine
   since ECC engine first calculates the ECC with all 0xff and match
   the calculated ECC with ECC code in OOB (which is again all 0xff).
2. After getting ECC error, erased CW detection logic will be
   applied which is different for BCH and RS ECC
    a. For BCH, HW checks if all the bytes in page are 0xff and then
       it updates the status in separate register
       NAND_ERASED_CW_DETECT_STATUS.
    b. For RS ECC, the HW reports the same error when reading an
       erased CW, but it notifies that it is an erased CW by
       placing special characters at certain offsets in the
       buffer.

So the erased CW detect status should be checked only if ECC engine
generated the uncorrectable error.

Currently for all other operational errors also (like TIMEOUT, MPU
errors, etc.), the erased CW detect logic is being applied so fix this
and return EIO for other operational errors.

6f20070d51 mtd: rawnand: qcom: wait for desc completion in all BAM channels
The BAM has 3 channels - tx, rx and command. command channel
is used for register read/writes, tx channel for data writes
and rx channel for data reads. Currently, the driver assumes the
transfer completion once it gets all the command descriptors
completed. Sometimes, there is race condition between data channel
(tx/rx) and command channel completion. In these cases,
the data present in buffer is not valid during small window
between command descriptor completion and data descriptor
completion.

This patch generates NAND transfer completion when both
(Data and Command) DMA channels have completed all its DMA
descriptors. It assigns completion callback in last
DMA descriptors of that channel and wait for completion.

181ace9e1b mtd: rawnand: helper function for setting up ECC configuration
commit 2c8f8afa7f ("mtd: nand: add generic helpers to check,
match, maximize ECC settings") provides generic helpers which
drivers can use for setting up ECC parameters.

Since same board can have different ECC strength nand chips so
following is the logic for setting up ECC strength and ECC step
size, which can be used by most of the drivers.

1. If both ECC step size and ECC strength are already set
   (usually by DT) then just check whether this setting
   is supported by NAND controller.
2. If NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE is set, then select maximum ECC strength
   supported by NAND controller.
3. Otherwise, try to match the ECC step size and ECC strength closest
   to the chip's requirement. If available OOB size can't fit the chip
   requirement then select maximum ECC strength which can be fit with
   available OOB size.

This patch introduces nand_ecc_choose_conf function which calls the
required helper functions for the above logic. The drivers can use
this single function instead of calling the 3 helper functions
individually.

ac3167257b headers: separate linux/mod_devicetable.h from linux/platform_device.h
At over 4000 #includes, <linux/platform_device.h> is the 9th most
#included header file in the Linux kernel.  It does not need
<linux/mod_devicetable.h>, so drop that header and explicitly add
<linux/mod_devicetable.h> to source files that need it.

   4146 #include <linux/platform_device.h>

After this patch, there are 225 files that use <linux/mod_devicetable.h>,
for a reduction of around 3900 times that <linux/mod_devicetable.h>
does not have to be read & parsed.

    225 #include <linux/mod_devicetable.h>

This patch was build-tested on 20 different arch-es.

It also makes these drivers SubmitChecklist#1 compliant.

revision number field of the ONFI parameter page. Rather than rejecting
these outright assume ONFI version 1.0 if the revision number is 00 00.

command queue feature. Regular operations using ->exec_op()

The datasheet of the H27UCG8T2BTR states that this chip has a page size
of "16,384 + 1,280(Spare) bytes". The description of the "4th Byte of
Device Identifier Description" indicates that bits 6, 3 and 2 are
encoding the "Redundant Area Size / 8KB", where 640 bytes is a value of
0x6 (110 in binary notation).

hynix_nand_extract_oobsize decodes an OOB size of 640 bytes for this
chip. Kernel boot log extract before this patch:

nand: device found, Manufacturer ID: 0xad, Chip ID: 0xde
nand: Hynix NAND 8GiB 3,3V 8-bit

the OOB size with 2, because it's "640 spare bytes per 8192 bytes page
size" and this NAND chip has a page size of 16384 (= 2 * 8192). After

Even if we can't update ecc_stats.corrected with an accurate value we
should at least increase the number of bitflips so that MTD users can
know that there was some bitflips.

3f6e698604 mtd: rawnand: denali_dt: set clk_x_rate to 200 MHz unconditionally
Since commit 1bb8866677 ("mtd: nand: denali: handle timing parameters
by setup_data_interface()"), denali_dt.c gets the clock rate from the
clock driver.  The driver expects the frequency of the bus interface
clock, whereas the clock driver of SOCFPGA provides the core clock.
Thus, the setup_data_interface() hook calculates timing parameters
based on a wrong frequency.

To make it work without relying on the clock driver, hard-code the clock
frequency, 200MHz.  This is fine for existing DT of UniPhier, and also
fixes the issue of SOCFPGA because both platforms use 200 MHz for the
bus interface clock.

Positive return value from read_oob() is making false BAD
blocks. For some of the NAND controllers, OOB bytes will be
protected with ECC and read_oob() will return number of bitflips.

3f77f244d8 mtd: rawnand: mxc: set spare area size register explicitly
The v21 version of the NAND flash controller contains a Spare Area Size
Register (SPAS) at offset 0x10. Its setting defaults to the maximum
spare area size of 218 bytes. The size that is set in this register is
used by the controller when it calculates the ECC bytes internally in
hardware.

Usually, this register is updated from settings in the IIM fuses when
the system is booting from NAND flash. For other boot media, however,
the SPAS register remains at the default setting, which may not work for
the particular flash chip on the board. The same goes for flash chips
whose configuration cannot be set in the IIM fuses (e.g. chips with 2k
sector size and 128 bytes spare area size can't be configured in the IIM
fuses on imx25 systems).

Set the SPAS register explicitly during the preset operation. Derive the
register value from mtd->oobsize that was detected during probe by
decoding the flash chip's ID bytes.

While at it, rename the define for the spare area register's offset to
NFC_V21_RSLTSPARE_AREA. The register at offset 0x10 on v1 controllers is
different from the register on v21 controllers.

The vzalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:

        vzalloc(a * b)

with:

        vzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c))

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

42bc47b353 treewide: Use array_size() in vmalloc()
The vmalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:

        vmalloc(a * b)

with:
        vmalloc(array_size(a, b))

as well as handling cases of:

        vmalloc(a * b * c)

with:

        vmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c))

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        vmalloc(4 * 1024)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

The devm_kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, devm_kcalloc().
This patch replaces cases of:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

with:
        devm_kcalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        devm_kcalloc(handle, array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, 4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

Some manual whitespace fixes were needed in this patch, as Coccinelle
really liked to write "=devm_kcalloc..." instead of "= devm_kcalloc...".

Here are the main updates for SoC support (besides DT additions) for ARM

782d1967d0 mtd: rawnand: Do not check FAIL bit when executing a SET_FEATURES op
The ONFI spec clearly says that FAIL bit is only valid for PROGRAM,
ERASE and READ-with-on-die-ECC operations, and should be ignored
otherwise.

It seems that checking it after sending a SET_FEATURES is a bad idea
because a previous READ, PROGRAM or ERASE op may have failed, and
depending on the implementation, the FAIL bit is not cleared until a
new READ, PROGRAM or ERASE is started.

This leads to ->set_features() returning -EIO while it actually worked,
which can sometimes stop a batch of READ/PROGRAM ops.

Note that we only fix the ->exec_op() path here, because some drivers
are abusing the NAND_STATUS_FAIL flag in their ->waitfunc()
implementation to propagate other kind of errors, like
wait-ready-timeout or controller-related errors. Let's not try to fix
those drivers since they worked fine so far.

90d6176333 mtd: rawnand: marvell: Fix read logic for layouts with ->nchunks > 2
The code is doing monolithic reads for all chunks except the last one
which is wrong since a monolithic read will issue the
READ0+ADDRS+READ_START sequence. It not only takes longer because it
forces the NAND chip to reload the page content into its internal
cache, but by doing that we also reset the column pointer to 0, which
means we'll always read the first chunk instead of moving to the next
one.

Rework the code to do a monolithic read only for the first chunk,
then switch to naked reads for all intermediate chunks and finally
issue a last naked read for the last chunk.

The GPMI nand driver puts dma_ops_type in its private data struct. Based
on the ops type the DMA callback handler unmaps previously mapped
buffers. Instead of unmapping the buffers in the DMA callback handler,

finish. This makes the whole dma_ops_type mechanism unnecessary.

Create a nand_scan() helper that is just a wrapper of
nand_scan_with_ids(), passing NULL as the ID table. This way a
controller drivers can continue using nand_scan() transparently.

doc_probe() is never called in atomic context.

doc_probe() is only called by init_nanddoc(), which is only set as
a parameter of module_init().
This function is not called in atomic context.

Despite never getting called from atomic context, doc_probe()
calls mdelay() to busily wait.
This is not necessary and can be replaced with usleep_range() to
avoid busy waiting.

This is found by a static analysis tool named DCNS written by myself.
And I also manually check it.

a8e3923ab5 mtd: rawnand: davinci: don't acquire and enable clock
NAND itself is an asynchronous interface, it does not have any
clock input. DaVinci NAND driver acquires clock for AEMIF
(asynchronous external memory interface) which is an on-chip
IP to which NAND is connected.

The same clock is also enabled in AEMIF driver (either present
drivers/memory or from machine code for some older platforms).
AEMIF timing must be initialized before NAND can be accessed.
This ensures that AEMIF clock is enabled too.

Remove the superfluous clock acquisition and enable in DaVinci
NAND driver.

Tested on K2L, K2HK, K2E, DA850 EVM, DA850 LCDK in device-tree
boot and DM644x EVM in legacy boot.

In case of failure, the sub-block is entered and an error raised.
Otherwise, in case of success, the code would continue erroneously in
the next 'else if' statement because it did not failed (and did not
enter the first 'else if' sub-block).

The first 'else if' refers to legacy bindings while the second 'else if'
refers to new bindings. The second 'else if', which is entered
erroneously, checks for the 'reg' property, which, for old bindings,
does not mean anything because it would not be the number of CS
available, but the regular register map of almost any DT node. This
being said, the content of the 'reg' property being the register map
offset and length, it has '2' values, so the number of CS in this
situation is assumed to be '2'.

When running nand_scan_ident() with 2 CS, the core will check for an
array of chips. It will first issue a RESET and then a READ_ID. Of
course this will trigger two timeouts because there is no chip in front
of the second CS:

Indeed, this is harmless and the core will then assume there is only one
valid CS.

Fix the logic in the whole block by entering each sub-block just on the
'is legacy' condition, doing the action inside the sub-block. This way,
when the action succeeds, the whole block is left.

Furthermore, for both the old bindings and the new bindings the same
logic was applied to retrieve the number of CS lines:
using of_get_property() to get a size in bytes, converted in the actual
number of lines by dividing it per sizeof(u32) (4 bytes).

This is fine for the 'reg' property which is a list of the CS IDs but
not for the 'num-cs' property which is directly the value of the number
of CS.

Anyway, no existing DT uses another value than 'num-cs = <1>' and no
other value has ever been supported by the old driver (pxa3xx_nand.c).
Remove this condition and apply a number of 1 CS anyway, as already
described in the bindings.

Finally, the 'reg' property of a 'nand' node (with the new bindings)
gives the IDs of each CS line in use. marvell_nand.c driver first look
at the number of CS lines that are present in this property.

Better use of_property_count_elems_of_size() than dividing by 4 the size
of the number of bytes returned by of_get_property().

964dfce9c2 mtd: rawnand: diskonchip: Allocate rs control per instance
The reed solomon library is moving the on stack decoder buffers into the rs
control structure. That would break the DoC driver because multiple
instances share the same control structure and can operate in parallel. At
least in theory....

Instantiate a rs control instance per DoC device to avoid that. The per
instance buffer is fine as the operation on a single DoC instance is
serialized by the MTD/NAND core.

2163398192 rslib: Split rs control struct
The decoder library uses variable length arrays on stack. To get rid of
them it would be simple to allocate fixed length arrays on stack, but those
might become rather large. The other solution is to allocate the buffers in
the rs control structure, but this cannot be done as long as the structure
can be shared by several users. Sharing is desired because the RS polynom
tables are large and initialization is time consuming.

To solve this split the codec information out of the control structure and
have a pointer to a shared codec in it. Instantiate the control structure
for each user, create a new codec if no shareable is avaiable yet.  Adjust
all affected usage sites to the new scheme.

This allows to add per instance decoder buffers to the control structure
later on.

7db782bc18 mtd: Remove depends on HAS_DMA in case of platform dependency
Remove dependencies on HAS_DMA where a Kconfig symbol depends on another
symbol that implies HAS_DMA, and, optionally, on "|| COMPILE_TEST".
In most cases this other symbol is an architecture or platform specific
symbol, or PCI.

Generic symbols and drivers without platform dependencies keep their
dependencies on HAS_DMA, to prevent compiling subsystems or drivers that
cannot work anyway.

This simplifies the dependencies, and allows to improve compile-testing.

b120612206 mtd: rawnand: gpmi: use core timings instead of an empirical derivation
GPMI driver timings derivation looks very empirical and does not use
the known timings that the core wants to use with the NAND chip, by
using local defined constants that have no special meaning from the
outside world.

Simplify the way all of this is computed and use the NAND core's SDR
timings.

Integrity of the reads/writes has been checked with nandbiterrs, speed
improvements with flash_speed on a Freescale i.MX6 DualLite/Solo SABRE
Automotive Board. Measures are below, variations of less than 150kiB/s
between tests are common and then not significant. Speeds using mode 5
are the same, while speeds using mode 0 are quite improved (+40/50%
from non-optimal computation).

76e1a0086a mtd: rawnand: gpmi: support ->setup_data_interface()
Until now the GPMI driver had its own timings logic while the core
already handles that and request the NAND controller drivers to support
the ->setup_data_interface() hook. Implement that hook by reusing the
already existing function. No real glue is necessary between core timing
delays and GPMI registers because the driver already translates the
ONFI timing modes into register values.

Make use of the core's tREA, tRLOH and tRHOH values that allow computing
more precise timings for mode [0-3] and get significantly better values
(+20% with an i.MX6 Sabre Auto board). Otherwise use the existing logic.

The MX30LF2G18AC chip declares in its parameter page supporting
SET/GET_FEATURES but when it comes to timings, experience shows that it
is not the case.

Initialize the bitmap in the core to support timing changes (only

ONFI-related parameters that will be used outside from the
identification function are stored in a separate onfi_parameters
structure embedded in nand_parameters, this small structure that
already hold generic parameters.

For now, the onfi_parameters structure is allocated statically. However,
after some deep rework in the NAND framework, it will be possible to do
dynamic allocations from the NAND identification phase, and this
strcuture will then be dynamically allocated when needed.

107b7d6a7a mtd: rawnand: avoid setting again the timings to mode 0 after a reset
After a nand_reset_data_interface(), both the NAND chip and the NAND
controller use timing mode 0. The previously defined data interface for
this chip has been saved and is supposed to be restored after that.
However, if the saved data interface also refers to timing mode 0, there
is no need to re-apply them again.

Also, as nand_setup_data_interface() uses ->set/get_features(), it could
lead to issues when doing the reset at probe time as the parameter page
is not available yet to know if these functions are supported or not.

415ae78ffb mtd: rawnand: check ONFI timings have been acked by the chip
Choosing ONFI timings when ->set/get_features() calls are supported
by the NAND chip is a matter of reading the chip's ONFI parameter page
and telling the chip the chosen mode (between all of the supported ones)
with ->set_feature().

Add a check on whether the chip "acked" the timing mode or not.

This can be a problem for NAND chips that do not follow entirely the
ONFI specification. These chips actually support other modes than
"mode 0", but either:
1/ do not update the timing mode register once a timing mode has been
   selected.
or
2/ do not support the TIMING_MODE featured and thus do not require users
   to change the timing mode at all.

These issues will be addressed in another patch that will add the
feature to overwrite NAND chips features within the parameter page, from
the NAND chip driver.

29714d6bd7 mtd: rawnand: move calls to ->select_chip() in nand_setup_data_interface()
After a ->set_features(TIMINGS), the chip is supposed to be working at a
new speed. In order for all the transactions to be perperly handled, the
NAND controller should also be configured to this same speed. Calling
->setup_data_interface() is not enough and the chip should be
de-asserted/re-asserted through calls to ->select_chip().

Prepare the next change in nand_setup_data_interface() where timings
will be checked after being applied. Because assertions of the CS pin
will be needed from within this function, move the calls to
->select_chip() inside nand_setup_data_interface() for later
consistency.

Usually, the source of the error when setting/getting features does not
matter (if the controller does not support sending the command or if
the chip does not support the operation).

When it comes to timings, if the controller fails it is an error while
if the chip does not support the operation, it can be silently supposed
that it already works with the maximum supported timings.

Introduce some logic in nand_setup_data_interface() to handle that
difference.

1cbe30b0dd mtd: rawnand: vf610_nfc: make use of ->exec_op()
This reworks the driver to make use of ->exec_op() callback. The
command sequencer of the VF610 NFC aligns well with the new ops
interface.

The operations are translated to a NFC command code while filling
the necessary registers. Instead of using the special status and
read ID command codes (which require to read status/ID from
special registers instead of the regular data area) the driver
now now uses the main data buffer for all commands. This
simplifies the driver as no special casing is needed.

For control data (status byte, id bytes and parameter page) the
driver needs to reverse byte order for little endian CPUs since
the controller seems to store the bytes in big endian order in
the data buffer.

The current state seems to pass MTD tests on a Colibri VF61.

4da712e702 mtd: nand: fsmc: use ->exec_op()
Remove the deprecated ->cmd_ctrl() implementation to use ->exec_op() in
the fsmc_nand driver.

Implement the ->select_chip() hook to avoid having to support the hack
from the core that send a NAND_CMD_NONE with NAND_NCE to signal a
deassertion of nCE.

Also get rid of the last references to ->IO_ADDR_[R|W] that are not used
anymore.

Remove the use of IO_ADDR_[R|W] in the fsmc_nand driver. Instead, use a
pointer to the control registers to avoid doing several arithmetic
operations (including a multiplication) each time a control register is
read or written.

All references to IO_ADDR_[R|W] are not entirely removed from the driver
as, at this time, these values are needed by the NAND core in the
default ->read/write_byte/word() hooks. These references will be
entirely removed when switching to ->exec_op(), that does not make use
of these hooks anymore.
