44c916d58b ARM: SoC cleanups for 3.17
This merge window brings a good size of cleanups on various
 platforms. Among the bigger ones:

 * Removal of Samsung s5pc100 and s5p64xx platforms. Both of these have
lacked active support for quite a while, and after asking around nobody
showed interest in keeping them around. If needed, they could be
resurrected in the future but it's more likely that we would prefer
reintroduction of them as DT and multiplatform-enabled platforms
   instead.
 * OMAP4 controller code register define diet. They defined a lot of registers
that were never actually used, etc.
 * Move of some of the Tegra platform code (PMC, APBIO, fuse, powergate)
to drivers/soc so it can be shared with 64-bit code. This also converts them
over to traditional driver models where possible.
 * Removal of legacy gpio-samsung driver, since the last users have been
   removed (moved to pinctrl)

Plus a bunch of smaller changes for various platforms that sort of
dissapear in the diffstat for the above. clps711x cleanups, shmobile
header file refactoring/moves for multiplatform friendliness, some misc
 cleanups, etc.

e4e42b8ad2 OMAPDSS: DSI: fix depopulating dsi peripherals
After v3.16-rc1, devices populated with of_platform_populate() should be
depopulated using of_platform_depopulate(). Failure to do so prevents
the devices from being populated again (e.g. when loading a module).

This patch fixes the problem for the OMAP DSI driver.

ea6763c104 video/fbdev: Always built-in video= cmdline parsing
In drm/i915 we want to get at the video= cmdline modes even when we
don't have fbdev support enabled, so that users can always override
the kernel's initial mode selection.

But that gives us a direct depency upon the parsing code in the fbdev
subsystem. Since it's so little code just extract these 2 functions
and always build them in.

Whiel at it fix the checkpatch fail in this code.

v2: Also move fb_mode_option. Spotted by the kbuild.

v3: Review from Geert:
- Keep the old copyright notice from fb_mem.c, although I have no
idea what exactly applies.
- Only compile this when needed.

3686fe9642 video: hyperv: hyperv_fb: refresh the VM screen by force on VM panic
Currently the VSC has no chance to notify the VSP of the dirty rectangle on VM
panic because the notification work is done in a workqueue, and in panic() the
kernel typically ends up in an infinite loop, and a typical kernel config has
CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y and CONFIG_PREEMPT is not set, so a context switch
can't happen in panic() and the workqueue won't have a chance to run. As a
result, the VM Connection window can't refresh until it's closed and we
re-connect to the VM.

We can register a handler on panic_notifier_list: the handler can notify
the VSC and switch the framebuffer driver to a "synchronous mode", meaning
the VSC flushes any future framebuffer change to the VSP immediately.

v2: removed the MS-TFS line in the commit message

94f30477fc video: clcd-versatile: Depend on ARM
The Versatile CLCD helpers call dma_alloc_writecombine() which is only
available on ARM and AVR32, meaning they won't build on other platforms
including arm64. Unfortunately the current Kconfig enables the symbol
by default if ARCH_VEXPRESS is defined which means that it is enabled on
arm64 when building for the ARM reference platforms and models for ARMv8
since they have many hardware similarities with their pre-ARMv8 systems.

Since all the systems that need the helpers are ARM systems fix this by
adding a dependency on ARM.

ec4c4d877b video: fix up versatile CLCD helper move
commit 11c32d7b62 ("video: move Versatile CLCD helpers")
moved files out of the plat-versatile directory but in the process
got a few of the dependencies wrong:

- If CONFIG_FB is not set, the file no longer gets built, resulting
  in a link error
- If CONFIG_FB or CONFIG_FB_ARMCLCD are disabled, we also get a
Kconfig warning for incorrect dependencies due to the symbol
being 'select'ed from the platform Kconfig.
- When the file is not built, we also get a link error for missing
  symbols.

This patch should fix all three, by removing the 'select' statements,
changing the Kconfig description of the symbol to be enabled in
exactly the right configurations, and adding inline stub functions
for the case when the framebuffer driver is disabled.

20cde69402 x86, ia64: Move EFI_FB vga_default_device() initialization to pci_vga_fixup()
Commit b4aa016305 ("efifb: Implement vga_default_device() (v2)") added
efifb vga_default_device() so EFI systems that do not load shadow VBIOS or
setup VGA get proper value for boot_vga PCI sysfs attribute on the
corresponding PCI device.

Xorg doesn't detect devices when boot_vga=0, e.g., on some EFI systems such
as MacBookAir2,1. Xorg detects the GPU and finds the DRI device but then
bails out with "no devices detected".

Note: When vga_default_device() is set boot_vga PCI sysfs attribute
reflects its state. When unset this attribute is 1 whenever
IORESOURCE_ROM_SHADOW flag is set.

With introduction of sysfb/simplefb/simpledrm efifb is getting obsolete
while having native drivers for the GPU also makes selecting sysfb/efifb
optional.

Remove the efifb implementation of vga_default_device() and initialize
vgaarb's vga_default_device() with the PCI GPU that matches boot
screen_info in pci_fixup_video().

6a90230593 video: msm: Introduce the use of the managed version of kzalloc
This patch moves data allocated using kzalloc to managed data allocated
using devm_kzalloc and cleans now unnecessary kfrees in probe and remove
functions. Also, linux/device.h is added to make sure the devm_*()
routine declarations are unambiguously available. The function
mddi_dummy_remove is removed as it is no longer required after
removing the kfree. The variable ret is also done away with.

68986c9f0f Revert "offb: Add palette hack for little endian"
This reverts commit e1edf18b20.

This patch was a misguided attempt at fixing offb for LE ppc64
kernels on BE qemu but is just wrong ... it breaks real LE/LE
setups, LE with real HW, and existing mixed endian systems
that did the fight thing with the appropriate device-tree
property. Bad reviewing on my part, sorry.

The right fix is to either make qemu change its endian when
the guest changes endian (working on that) or to use the
existing foreign endian support.

4251c2a670 Most of this is cleaning up various driver sysfs permissions so we can
re-add the perm check (we unified the module param and sysfs checks, but
the module ones were stronger so we weakened them temporarily).

Param parsing gets documented, and also "--" now forces args to be
handed to init (and ignored by the kernel).

Module NX/RO protections get tightened: we now set them before calling
 parse_args().

7f33e7241d pwm: Changes for v3.16-rc1
The majority of these changes are cleanups and fixes across all drivers.
Redundant error messages are removed and more PWM controllers set the
.can_sleep flag to signal that they can't be used in atomic context.

Support is added for the Broadcom Kona family of SoCs and the Intel LPSS
driver can now probe PCI devices in addition to ACPI devices. Upon shut-
down, the pwm-backlight driver will now power off the backlight. It also
uses the new descriptor-based GPIO API for more concise GPIO handling.

A large chunk of these changes also converts platforms to use the lookup
mechanism rather than relying on the global number space to reference
PWM devices. This is largely in preparation for more unification and
cleanups in future patches. Eventually it will allow the legacy PWM API
 to be removed.

a4de05268e drm/i915: Kick out vga console
Touching the VGA resources on an IVB EFI machine causes hard hangs when
we then kick out the efifb. Ouch.

Apparently this also prevents unclaimed register errors on hsw and
hard machine hangs on my i855gm when trying to unbind fbcon.

Also, we want this to make I915_FBDEV=n safe.

v2: Rebase and pimp commit message.

v3: We also need to unregister the vga console, otherwise the unbind
of the fb console before module unload might resurrect it again.

v4: Ignore errors when the vga console is already unregistered - this
can happen when e.g. reloading i915.ko.

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"ACPICA is the leader this time (63 commits), followed by cpufreq (28
  commits), devfreq (15 commits), system suspend/hibernation (12
commits), ACPI video and ACPI device enumeration (10 commits each).

We have no major new features this time, but there are a few
significant changes of how things work. The most visible one will
probably be that we are now going to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices by default for ACPI device objects with _HID. That
was long overdue and will be really necessary to be able to use the
same drivers for the same hardware blocks on ACPI and DT-based systems
going forward. We're not expecting fallout from this one (as usual),
but it's something to watch nevertheless.

The second change having a chance to be visible is that ACPI video
will now default to using native backlight rather than the ACPI
backlight interface which should generally help systems with broken
Win8 BIOSes. We're hoping that all problems with the native backlight
handling that we had previously have been addressed and we are in a
good enough shape to flip the default, but this change should be easy
enough to revert if need be.

In addition to that, the system suspend core has a new mechanism to
allow runtime-suspended devices to stay suspended throughout system
suspend/resume transitions if some extra conditions are met
(generally, they are related to coordination within device hierarchy).
However, enabling this feature requires cooperation from the bus type
layer and for now it has only been implemented for the ACPI PM domain
(used by ACPI-enumerated platform devices mostly today).

Also, the acpidump utility that was previously shipped as a separate
tool will now be provided by the upstream ACPICA along with the rest
of ACPICA code, which will allow it to be more up to date and better
supported, and we have one new cpuidle driver (ARM clps711x).

The rest is improvements related to certain specific use cases,
cleanups and fixes all over the place.

  Specifics:

   - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140424. That includes a number
of fixes and improvements related to things like GPE handling,
table loading, headers, memory mapping and unmapping, DSDT/SSDT
overriding, and the Unload() operator. The acpidump utility from

machines and using native backlight by default.

   - ACPI device enumeration changes to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices for ACPI device objects with _HID by default. PNP
devices will still be created for the ACPI device object with
device IDs corresponding to real PNP devices, so that change should
not break things left and right, and we're expecting to see more
and more ACPI-enumerated platform devices in the future. From
Zhang Rui and Rafael J Wysocki.

   - Updates for the ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver allowing it
to handle system suspend/resume on Asus T100 correctly. From
Heikki Krogerus and Rafael J Wysocki.

   - PM core update introducing a mechanism to allow runtime-suspended

certain additional conditions related to coordination within device
hierarchy are met. Related PM documentation update and ACPI PM

39b9004d1f gpu: ipu-v3: Move i.MX IPUv3 core driver out of staging
The i.MX Image Processing Unit (IPU) contains a number of image processing
blocks that sit right in the middle between DRM and V4L2. Some of the modules,
such as Display Controller, Processor, and Interface (DC, DP, DI) or CMOS
Sensor Interface (CSI) and their FIFOs could be assigned to either framework,
but others, such as the dma controller (IDMAC) and image converter (IC) can
be used by both.
The IPUv3 core driver provides an internal API to access the modules, to be
used by both DRM and V4L2 IPUv3 drivers.

e4bdab70dd console: Use explicit pointer type for vc_uni_pagedir* fields
The vc_data.vc_uni_pagedir filed is currently long int, supposedly to
be served generically. This, however, leads to lots of cast to
pointer, and rather it worsens the readability significantly.

Actually, we have now only a single uni_pagedir map implementation,
and this won't change likely. So, it'd be much more simple and
error-prone to just use the exact pointer for struct uni_pagedir
instead of long.

Ditto for vc_uni_pagedir_loc. It's a pointer to the uni_pagedir, thus
it can be changed similarly to the exact type.

0f2893f0d1 vgacon: Fix & cleanup refcounting
The vgacon driver prepares a two element array of uni_pagedir_loc and
uses the second item as its own reference counter for sharing the
uni_pagedir. And the code assumes blindly that the second item is
available if the assigned vc_uni_pagedir isn't the standard one, which
might be wrong (although currently it's so).

This patch fixes that wrong assumption, and gives a slight cleanup
along with it: namely, instead of array, just give the uni_pagedir_loc
and a separate refcount variable. It makes the code a bit more
understandable at first glance.

f2dd36ac99 OMAPDSS: move 'compatible' converter to omapdss driver
Move the panel/encoder driver compatible-string converter from
arch/arm/mach-omap2/display.c to omapdss driver. That is a more logical
place for it, as it's really an omapdss internal hack.

The code is rewritten to follow the video node graph, starting from

3cc6919bd6 backlight: Add backlight device (un)registration notification
Some firmware drivers, ie acpi-video want to get themselves out of the
way (in some cases) when their also is a raw backlight device available.

Due to module loading ordering being unknown, acpi-video cannot be certain

cf8c8781d9 m68k/atari - atafb: convert allocation of fb ram to new interface
The new atari_stram_alloc interface returns kernel virtual addresses
even if the kernel runs in FastRAM. These addresses are not
guaranteed to be identical with the physical addresses. Since ST-RAM
mappings have not been set up by mem_init, virt_to_phys() and its
cousin do not work and the atari_stram_to_phys() etc. helpers must

972754cfae matroxfb: perform a dummy read of M_STATUS
I had occasional screen corruption with the matrox framebuffer driver and
I found out that the reason for the corruption is that the hardware
blitter accesses the videoram while it is being written to.

The matrox driver has a macro WaitTillIdle() that should wait until the
blitter is idle, but it sometimes doesn't work. I added a dummy read
mga_inl(M_STATUS) to WaitTillIdle() to fix the problem. The dummy read
will flush the write buffer in the PCI chipset, and the next read of
M_STATUS will return the hardware status.

Since applying this patch, I had no screen corruption at all.

dcf5f7299e OMAPDSS: HDMI: move irq & phy pwr handling
HDMI IRQ handling was moved into hdmi_phy.c when restructuring the HDMI
driver. While this worked fine, it's not correct.

The HDMI IRQ handling should be either in the hdmi_wp, or in the main
hdmi driver. This patch moves the handling to the main hdmi driver, as I
feel it's a more appropriate choice.

This move also requires changing the handling of the PHY power, as that
was partly handled in the IRQ handler. The PHY power is handled via the
WP module. An option would be to give HDMI PHY driver function pointers
that it could use to manage the PHY power, but as the PHY power is not
needed to access the PHY registers, the handling was also moved to the
main HDMI driver. This could be changed later if need be.

Note that there's slightly similar power issue with the PLL: the HDMI
PLLs power is also handled via the WP module. For now, the PLL power
handling is still done inside the PLL driver.

fabd3152fb video/mbx: fix building debugfs support
The mbx framebuffer debugfs support apparently hasn't been able
to build for a long time, at least since 2006 when the u.generic_ip

also makes it possible to build the driver as a module when
debugfs support is enabled, by simply including the C file.
It's ugly, but it won't make the driver any worse than it
already is, and doesn't require a more invasive change that
might break it further.

81c44c2b2c video/omap: fix modular build
The framebuffer layer can be a loadable module, which forces
omapfb to be a module as well. However, this breaks the lcd
drivers, which are linked into the omapfb driver but each
have their own module_init() function. To solve this,
we split out the lcd drivers into separate modules and
export omapfb_register_panel, which is the only interface
required between the main omapfb driver and the lcd panel
drivers.

We also have to introduce a new Kconfig symbol for H3, since
that lcd driver has a dependency on TPS65010, which we can
express better in Kconfig than Makefile syntax.

776bbb97e0 video: Kconfig: move drm and fb into separate menus
At the moment the "Device Drivers / Graphics support" kernel config page
looks rather messy, with DRM and fbdev driver selections on the same
page, some on the top level Graphics support page, some under their
respective subsystems.

If I'm not mistaken, this is caused by the drivers depending on other
things than DRM or FB, which causes Kconfig to arrange the options in
not-so-neat manner.

Both DRM and FB have a main menuconfig option for the whole DRM or FB
subsystem. Optimally, this would be enough to arrange all DRM and FB
options under the respective subsystem, but for whatever reason this
doesn't work reliably.

This patch adds an explicit submenu for DRM and FB, making it much
clearer which options are related to FB, and which to DRM.

f7018c2135 video: move fbdev to drivers/video/fbdev
The drivers/video directory is a mess. It contains generic video related
files, directories for backlight, console, linux logo, lots of fbdev
device drivers, fbdev framework files.

Make some order into the chaos by creating drivers/video/fbdev
directory, and move all fbdev related files there.

No functionality is changed, although I guess it is possible that some
subtle Makefile build order related issue could be created by this
patch.

0925afc9a4 OMAPDSS: fix shared irq handlers
DSS uses shared irq handlers for DISPC and DSI, because on OMAP3, the
DISPC and DSI share the same irq line.

However, the irq handlers presume that the hardware is enabled, which,
in theory, may not be the case with shared irq handlers. So if an
interrupt happens while the DISPC/DSI is off, the kernel will halt as
the irq handler tries to access the DISPC/DSI registers.

In practice that should never happen, as both DSI and DISPC are in the
same power domain. So if there's an IRQ for one of them, the other is
also enabled. However, if CONFIG_DEBUG_SHIRQ is enabled, the kernel will
generate a spurious IRQ, which then causes the problem.

This patch adds an is_enabled field for both DISPC and DSI, which is
used to track if the HW is enabled. For DISPC the code is slightly more
complex, as the users of DISPC can register the interrupt handler, and
we want to hide the is_enabled handling from the users of DISPC.

8c16f3303c backlight: update backlight status when necessary
We don't have to update a backlight status every time a blanking or
unblanking event comes because the backlight status may have already
been what we want. Another thought is that one backlight device may be
shared by multiple framebuffers. We don't hope blanking one of the
framebuffers may turn the backlight off for all the other framebuffers,
since they are likely being active to display something.

This patch makes the backlight status be updated only when the relevant
backlight device's use count changes from zero to one or from one to
zero.

a55944ca82 backlight: update bd state & fb_blank properties when necessary
We don't have to update the state and fb_blank properties of a backlight
device every time a blanking or unblanking event comes because they may
have already been what we want. Another thought is that one backlight
device may be shared by multiple framebuffers. The backlight driver
should take the backlight device as a resource shared by all the
associated framebuffers.

This patch adds some logic to record each framebuffer's backlight usage
to determine the backlight device use count and whether the two
properties should be updated or not. To be more specific, only one
unblank operation on a certain blanked framebuffer may increase the
backlight device's use count by one, while one blank operation on a
certain unblanked framebuffer may decrease the use count by one, because
the userspace is likely to unblank an unblanked framebuffer or blank a
blanked framebuffer.

Add the code to make the DSI driver work with device tree on OMAP3 and

A minor hack is needed at the moment in the DSI driver: the DSS driver
needs to know the ID number of a DSI device, as clocks are routed in
different ways to the DSI devices. At the moment we don't have any
proper way to manage this, so this patchs adds a simple lookup table
that is used to deduce the ID from the DSI device's base address.

Add DT support for DSS. Contrary to the non-DT version, the DSS in DT
mode contains DPI and SDI outputs, which better reflects the hardware.
The non-DT code will be removed after all boards have been converted to
DT, so there's no need to change the non-DT code to act the same way.

The code for DPI and SDI needs to be refined later to make it possible
to add multiple DPI ports. For now, handling just a single DPI port is
enough for all the boards.

The regulator names used for DSS components are somewhat ugly for DT
use. As we're just adding DT support, it's simple to change the

This patch makes the DSS driver get the regulators with somewhat cleaner

3e22b35534 OMAPDSS: get dssdev->alias from DT alias
We currently create a "displayX" style alias name for all displays,
using a number that is incremented for each registered display. With the
new DSS device model there is no clear order in which the displays are
registered, and thus the numbering is somewhat random.

This patch improves the behavior for DT case so that if the displays
have been assigned DT aliases, those aliases will be used as DSS
aliases.

This means that "display0" is always the one specified in the DT alias,
and thus display0 can be used as default display in case the user didn't
specify a default display.

eec77da274 OMAPDSS: DISPC: decimation rounding fix
The driver uses DIV_ROUND_UP when calculating decimated width & height.
For example, when decimating with 3, the width is calculated as:

  width = DIV_ROUND_UP(width, decim_x);

This yields bad results for some values. For example, 800/3=266.666...,
which is rounded to 267. When the input width is set to 267, and pixel
increment is set to 3, this causes the dispc to read a line of 801
pixels, i.e. it reads a wrong pixel at the end of the line.

Even more pressing, the above rounding causes a BUG() in pixinc(), as
the value of 801 is used to calculate row increment, leading to a bad
value being passed to pixinc().

This patch fixes the decimation by removing the DIV_ROUND_UP()s when
calculating width and height for decimation.

e62cabb5e9 tgafb: avoid restriction on modes with line length not a multiple of 64
In tgafb there is a restriction that prevents the user from setting a
videomode with line length not a multiple of 64 bytes (for example,
800x600 is not allowed).

The reason for this restriction it that functions copyarea_line_8bpp and
copyarea_line_32bpp can not handle a line length that is not a multiple
of 64 bytes.

This patch removes this restriction on mode setting and makes sure that
the functions copyarea_line_8bpp and copyarea_line_32bpp are called only
if line length is a multiple of 64 bytes. If we set a mode 800x600,
the functions copyarea_line_8bpp and copyarea_line_32bpp are not used,
generic functions for copying are used instead and it works just fine.

6b0df6827b tgafb: fix data copying
The functions for data copying copyarea_foreward_8bpp and
copyarea_backward_8bpp are buggy, they produce screen corruption.

This patch fixes the functions and moves the logic to one function
"copyarea_8bpp". For simplicity, the function only handles copying that
is aligned on 8 pixes. If we copy an unaligned area, generic function
cfb_copyarea is used.

6249665890 tgafb: fix mode setting with fbset
Mode setting in the TGA driver is broken for these reasons:

- info->fix.line_length is set just once in tgafb_init_fix function. If
we change videomode, info->fix.line_length is not recalculated - so
the video mode is changed but the screen is corrupted because of wrong
  info->fix.line_length.

- info->fix.smem_len is set in tgafb_init_fix to the size of the default
video mode (640x480). If we set a higher resolution,
info->fix.smem_len is smaller than the current screen size, preventing
the userspace program from mapping the framebuffer.

This patch fixes it:

- info->fix.line_length initialization is moved to tgafb_set_par so that
it is recalculated with each mode change.

- info->fix.smem_len is set to a fixed value representing the real
amount of video ram (the values are taken from xfree86 driver).

- add a check to tgafb_check_var to prevent us from setting a videomode
  that doesn't fit into videoram.

- in tgafb_register, tgafb_init_fix is moved upwards, to be called
before fb_find_mode (because fb_find_mode already needs the videoram
  size set in tgafb_init_fix).
