f862eefec0 tile: use a more conservative __my_cpu_offset in CONFIG_PREEMPT
It turns out the kernel relies on barrier() to force a reload of the
percpu offset value.  Since we can't easily modify the definition of
barrier() to include "tp" as an output register, we instead provide a
definition of __my_cpu_offset as extended assembly that includes a fake
stack read to hazard against barrier(), forcing gcc to know that it
must reread "tp" and recompute anything based on "tp" after a barrier.

This fixes observed hangs in the slub allocator when we are looping
on a percpu cmpxchg_double.

A similar fix for ARMv7 was made in June in change 509eb76ebf.

b924a69067 tile: include: asm: use 'long long' instead of 'u64' for atomic64_t and its related functions
atomic* value is signed value, and atomic* functions need also process
signed value (parameter value, and return value), so use 'long long'
instead of 'u64'.

After replacement, it will also fix a bug for atomic64_add_negative():
"u64 is never less than 0".

The modifications are:

  in vim, use "1,% s/\<u64\>/long long/g" command.
  remove redundant '__aligned(8)'.
  be sure of 80 (and macro '\') columns limitation after replacement.

4b12909fd1 tile: remove HUGE_VMAP dead code
A config option to allow a variant vmap() using huge pages that was never
upstreamed had some bits of code related to it scattered around the tile
architecture; the config option was removed downstream and this commit
cleans up the scattered evidence of it from the upstream as well.

759496ba64 arch: mm: pass userspace fault flag to generic fault handler
Unlike global OOM handling, memory cgroup code will invoke the OOM killer
in any OOM situation because it has no way of telling faults occuring in
kernel context - which could be handled more gracefully - from
user-triggered faults.

Pass a flag that identifies faults originating in user space from the
architecture-specific fault handlers to generic code so that memcg OOM
handling can be improved.

94bce453c7 arch: mm: remove obsolete init OOM protection
The memcg code can trap tasks in the context of the failing allocation
until an OOM situation is resolved.  They can hold all kinds of locks
(fs, mm) at this point, which makes it prone to deadlocking.

This series converts memcg OOM handling into a two step process that is
started in the charge context, but any waiting is done after the fault
stack is fully unwound.

Patches 1-4 prepare architecture handlers to support the new memcg
requirements, but in doing so they also remove old cruft and unify
out-of-memory behavior across architectures.

Patch 5 disables the memcg OOM handling for syscalls, readahead, kernel
faults, because they can gracefully unwind the stack with -ENOMEM.  OOM
handling is restricted to user triggered faults that have no other
option.

Patch 6 reworks memcg's hierarchical OOM locking to make it a little
more obvious wth is going on in there: reduce locked regions, rename
locking functions, reorder and document.

Patch 7 implements the two-part OOM handling such that tasks are never
trapped with the full charge stack in an OOM situation.

This patch:

Back before smart OOM killing, when faulting tasks were killed directly on
allocation failures, the arch-specific fault handlers needed special
protection for the init process.

Now that all fault handlers call into the generic OOM killer (see commit
609838cfed: "mm: invoke oom-killer from remaining unconverted page
fault handlers"), which already provides init protection, the
arch-specific leftovers can be removed.

83467efbdb mm: migrate: check movability of hugepage in unmap_and_move_huge_page()
Currently hugepage migration works well only for pmd-based hugepages
(mainly due to lack of testing,) so we had better not enable migration of
other levels of hugepages until we are ready for it.

Some users of hugepage migration (mbind, move_pages, and migrate_pages) do
page table walk and check pud/pmd_huge() there, so they are safe.  But the
other users (softoffline and memory hotremove) don't do this, so without
this patch they can try to migrate unexpected types of hugepages.

To prevent this, we introduce hugepage_migration_support() as an
architecture dependent check of whether hugepage are implemented on a pmd
basis or not.  And on some architecture multiple sizes of hugepages are
available, so hugepage_migration_support() also checks hugepage size.

6dc9658fa1 tile: rework <asm/cmpxchg.h>
The macrology in cmpxchg.h was designed to allow arbitrary pointer
and integer values to be passed through the routines.  To support
cmpxchg() on 64-bit values on the 32-bit tilepro architecture, we
used the idiom "(typeof(val))(typeof(val-val))".  This way, in the
"size 8" branch of the switch, when the underlying cmpxchg routine
returns a 64-bit quantity, we cast it first to a typeof(val-val)
quantity (i.e. size_t if "val" is a pointer) with no warnings about
casting between pointers and integers of different sizes, then cast
onwards to typeof(val), again with no warnings.  If val is not a
pointer type, the additional cast is a no-op.  We can't replace the
typeof(val-val) cast with (for example) unsigned long, since then if
"val" is really a 64-bit type, we cast away the high bits.

HOWEVER, this fails with current gcc (through 4.7 at least) if "val"
is a pointer to an incomplete type.  Unfortunately gcc isn't smart
enough to realize that "val - val" will always be a size_t type
even if it's an incomplete type pointer.

Accordingly, I've reworked the way we handle the casting.  We have
given up the ability to use cmpxchg() on 64-bit values on tilepro,
which is OK in the kernel since we should use cmpxchg64() explicitly
on such values anyway.  As a result, I can just use simple "unsigned
long" casts internally.

As I reworked it, I realized it would be cleaner to move the
architecture-specific conditionals for cmpxchg and xchg out of the
atomic.h headers and into cmpxchg, and then use the cmpxchg() and
xchg() primitives directly in atomic.h and elsewhere.  This allowed
the cmpxchg.h header to stand on its own without relying on the
implicit include of it that is performed by <asm/atomic.h>.
It also allowed collapsing the atomic_xchg/atomic_cmpxchg routines
from atomic_{32,64}.h into atomic.h.

I improved the tests that guard the allowed size of the arguments
to the routines to use a __compiletime_error() test.  (By avoiding
the use of BUILD_BUG, I could include cmpxchg.h into bitops.h as
well and use the macros there, which is otherwise impossible due
to include order dependency issues.)

The tilepro _atomic_xxx internal methods were previously set up to
take atomic_t and atomic64_t arguments, which isn't as convenient
with the new model, so I modified them to take int or u64 arguments,
which is consistent with how they used the arguments internally
anyway, so provided some nice simplification there too.

ce61cdc270 tile: make __write_once a synonym for __read_mostly
This was really only useful for TILE64 when we mapped the
kernel data with small pages. Now we use a huge page and we
really don't want to map different parts of the kernel
data in different ways.

We retain the __write_once name in case we want to bring
it back to life at some point in the future.

Note that this change uncovered a latent bug where the
"smp_topology" variable happened to always be aligned mod 8
so we could store two "int" values at once, but when we
eliminated __write_once it ended up only aligned mod 4.
Fix with an explicit annotation.

d7c9661115 tile: remove support for TILE64
This chip is no longer being actively developed for (it was superceded
by the TILEPro64 in 2008), and in any case the existing compiler and
toolchain in the community do not support it.  It's unlikely that the
kernel works with TILE64 at this point as the configuration has not been
tested in years.  The support is also awkward as it requires maintaining
a significant number of ifdefs.  So, just remove it altogether.

We use virt_to_pte(NULL, va) a lot, which isn't very obvious.
I added virt_to_kpte(va) as a more obvious wrapper function,
that also validates the va as being a kernel adddress.

And, I fixed the semantics of virt_to_pte() so that we handle
the pud and pmd the same way, and we now document the fact that
we handle the final pte level differently.

Allow enabling frame pointer support; this makes it easier to hook
into the various kernel features that claim they require it without
having to add Kconfig conditionals everywhere (a la mips, ppc, s390,
and microblaze).  When enabled, it basically eliminates leaf functions
as such, and stops optimizing tail and sibling calls.  It adds around
3% to the size of the kernel when enabled.

acbde1db29 tile: parameterize VA and PA space more cleanly
The existing code relied on the hardware definition (<arch/chip.h>)
to specify how much VA and PA space was available.  It's convenient
to allow customizing this for some configurations, so provide symbols
MAX_PA_WIDTH and MAX_VA_WIDTH in <asm/page.h> that can be modified
if desired.

Additionally, move away from the MEM_XX_INTRPT nomenclature to
define the start of various regions within the VA space.  In fact
the cleaner symbol is, for example, MEM_SV_START, to indicate the
start of the area used for supervisor code; the actual address of the
interrupt vectors is not as important, and can be changed if desired.
As part of this change, convert from "intrpt1" nomenclature (which
built in the old privilege-level 1 model) to a simple "intrpt".

Also strip out some tilepro-specific code supporting modifying the
PL the kernel could run at, since we don't actually support using
different PLs in tilepro, only tilegx.

35f059761c tilegx: change how we find the kernel stack
Previously, we used a special-purpose register (SPR_SYSTEM_SAVE_K_0)
to hold the CPU number and the top of the current kernel stack
by using the low bits to hold the CPU number, and using the high
bits to hold the address of the page just above where we'd want
the kernel stack to be.  That way we could initialize a new SP
when first entering the kernel by just masking the SPR value and
subtracting a couple of words.

However, it's actually more useful to be able to place an arbitrary
kernel-top value in the SPR.  This allows us to create a new stack
context (e.g. for virtualization) with an arbitrary top-of-stack VA.
To make this work, we now store the CPU number in the high bits,
above the highest legal VA bit (42 bits in the current tilegx
microarchitecture).  The full 42 bits are thus available to store the
top of stack value.  Getting the current cpu (a relatively common
operation) is still fast; it's now a shift rather than a mask.

We make this change only for tilegx, since tilepro has too few SPR
bits to do this, and we don't need this support on tilepro anyway.

All users of pcie_bus_configure_settings() pass arguments of the form
"bus, bus->self->pcie_mpss".  The "mpss" argument is redundant since we
can easily look it up internally.  In addition, all callers check
"bus->self" for NULL, which we can also do internally.

This patch simplifies the interface and the callers.  No functional change.

9ae0983847 tile: provide traceability for hypervisor calls
This change adds infrastructure (CONFIG_TILE_HVGLUE_TRACE) that
provides C code wrappers for the calls the kernel makes to the Tilera
hypervisor.  This allows standard kernel infrastructure like FTRACE to
be able to instrument hypervisor calls.

To allow direct calls to the true API, we export their names with a
leading underscore as well.  This is important for the few contexts
where we need to make hypervisor calls without touching the stack.

As part of this change, we also switch from creating the symbols
with linker magic to creating them with assembler magic.  This lets
us provide a symbol type and generally make them appear more as symbols
and less as just random values in the Elf namespace.

4a556f4f56 tile: implement gettimeofday() via vDSO
This change creates the framework for vDSO calls, makes the existing
rt_sigreturn() mechanism use it, and adds a fast gettimeofday().
Now that we need to expose the vDSO address to userspace, we add
AT_SYSINFO_EHDR to the set of aux entries provided to userspace.
(You can disable any extra vDSO support by booting with vdso=0,
but the rt_sigreturn vDSO page will still be provided.)

Note that glibc has supported the tile vDSO since release 2.17.

0c1d1917c5 tile: support simulator notification for ET_DYN objects
The tile code notifies the simulator of new ET_EXEC objects starting
to execute so that tracing code can properly annotate the objects.
However, we didn't support ET_DYN executables like ld.so, so we
didn't properly load symbols, etc.  This change enables that support;
we use a variant of the SIM_CONTROL_DLOPEN simulator notification
that newer simulators will recognize and use to set the base address
for the next SIM_CONTROL_OS_EXEC notification.

70d2b5958a tile: improve illegal translation interrupt handling
First, don't re-enable interrupts blindly in the Linux trap handler.
We already handle page faults this way; synchronous interrupts like
ILL_TRANS will fire even when interrupts are disabled, and we don't
want to re-enable interrupts in that case.

For ILL_TRANS, we now pass the ILL_VA_PC reason into the trap handler
so we can report it properly; this is the address that caused the
illegal translation trap.  We print the address as part of the
pr_alert() message now if it's coming from the kernel.

unaligned.h so we properly choose endian-correct flavors.

Second, keep the hv/hypervisor.h ABI fully "native" in the sense that
we don't have __BIG_ENDIAN__ ifdefs there.  Instead, we use macros in
the head_NN.S assembly code to properly extract two 32-bit structure
members from a 64-bit register holding the structure.

a0bd12d718 tile: fix some issues in hugepage support
First, in huge_pte_offset(), we were erroneously checking
pgd_present(), which is always true, rather than pud_present(),
which is the thing that tells us if there is a top-level (L0) PTE.
Fixing this means we properly look up huge page entries only when
the Present bit is actually set in the PTE.

Second, use the standard pte_alloc_map() instead of the hand-rolled
pte_alloc_hugetlb() routine that basically was written to avoid
worrying about CONFIG_HIGHPTE.  However, we no longer plan to support
HIGHPTE, so a separate routine was just unnecessary code duplication.

we haven't seen this in practice other than when things are seriously
corrupt, but it may help avoid losing the root cause of a crash.

Also, don't abort kernel backtracers for invalid userspace PC's.
If we do, we lose the ability to backtrace through a userspace
call to a bad address above PAGE_OFFSET, even though that it can
be perfectly reasonable to continue the backtrace in such a case.

2f9ac29eec tile: fast-path unaligned memory access for tilegx
This change enables unaligned userspace memory access via a kernel
fast path on tilegx.  The kernel tracks user PC/instruction pairs
per-thread using a direct-mapped cache in userspace.  The cache
maps those PC/instruction pairs to JIT'ed instruction sequences that
load or store using byte-wide load store intructions and then
synthesize 2-, 4- or 8-byte load or store results.  Once an
instruction has been seen to generate an unaligned access once,
subsequent hits on that instruction typically require overhead
of only around 50 cycles if cache and TLB is hot.

We support the prctl() PR_GET_UNALIGN / PR_SET_UNALIGN sys call to
enable or disable unaligned fixups on a per-process basis.

To do this we pull some of the tilepro unaligned support out of the
single_step.c file; tilepro uses instruction disassembly for both
single-step and unaligned access support.  Since tilegx actually has
hardware singlestep support, though, it's cleaner to keep the tilegx
unaligned access code in a separate file.  While we're at it,
properly rename the tilepro-specific types, etc., to have tilepro
suffixes instead of generic tile suffixes.

77f8c740d1 tile: support "memmap" boot parameter
This change adds support for the "memmap" boot parameter similar
to what x86 provides.  The tile version supports "memmap=1G$5G",
for example, as a way to reserve a 1 GB range starting at PA 5GB.
The memory is reserved via bootmem during startup, and we create a
suitable "struct resource" marked as "Reserved" so you can see the
range reported by /proc/iomem.  Up to 64 such regions can currently
be reserved on the boot command line.

We do not support the x86 options "memmap=nn@ss" (force some memory
to be available at the given address) since it's pointless to try to
have Linux use memory the Tilera hypervisor hasn't given it.  We do
not support "memmap=nn#ss" to add an ACPI range for later processing,
since we don't support ACPI.  We do not support "memmap=exactmap"
since we don't support reading the e820 information from the BIOS
like x86 does.  I did add support for "memmap=nn" (and the synonym
"mem=nn") which cap the highest PA value at "nn"; these are both
just a synonym for the existing tile boot option "maxmem".

This change improves and cleans up the tile console.

- We enable HVC_IRQ support on tilegx, with the addition of a new
  Tilera hypervisor API for tilegx to allow a console IPI.  If IPI
  support is not available we fall back to the previous polling mode.

- We simplify the earlyprintk code to use CON_BOOT and eliminate some
  of the other supporting earlyprintk code.

- A new tile_console_write() primitive is used to send output to
  the console and is factored out of the hvc_tile driver.
  This lets us support a "sim_console" boot argument to allow using
  simulator hooks to send output to the "console" as a slightly
  faster alternative to emulating the hardware more directly.

The standard kernel function dma_get_required_mask() uses the
highest DRAM address to determine if 32-bit or 64-bit DMA addressing
is needed.  This only works on architectures that have direct mapping
between the PA and the PCI address space, i.e. those that don't have
I/O TLBs or have I/O TLB but choose to use direct mapping.  Neither
of these are true for tilegx.  Whether to use 64-bit DMA should depend
on the PCI device's capability only, not on the amount of DRAM
installeds, so we now advertise a 64-bit DMA mask unconditionally.

803c874abe tile: support LSI MEGARAID SAS HBA hybrid dma_ops
The LSI MEGARAID SAS HBA suffers from the problem where it can do
64-bit DMA to streaming buffers but not to consistent buffers.
In other words, 64-bit DMA is used for disk data transfers and 32-bit
DMA must be used for control message transfers. According to LSI,
the firmware is not fully functional yet. This change implements a
kind of hybrid dma_ops to support this.

Note that on most other platforms, the 64-bit DMA addressing space is the
same as the 32-bit DMA space and they overlap the physical memory space.
No special arrangement is needed to support this kind of mixed DMA
capability.  On TILE-Gx, the 64-bit DMA space is completely separate
from the 32-bit DMA space.  Due to the use of the IOMMU, the 64-bit DMA
space doesn't overlap the physical memory space.  On the other hand,
the 32-bit DMA space overlaps the physical memory space under 4GB.
The separate address spaces make it necessary to have separate dma_ops.

f3286a3af8 tile: support multiple mPIPE shims in tilegx network driver
The initial driver support was for a single mPIPE shim on the chip
(as is the case for the Gx36 hardware).  The Gx72 chip has two mPIPE
shims, so we extend the driver to handle that case.

c53c70a90f tile: optimize and clean up string functions
This change cleans up the string code in a number of ways:

- For memcpy(), fix bug in prefetch and increase distance to 3 lines;
  optimize for unaligned data; do all loads before wh64 to make memcpy
  safe for forward-overlapping calls; etc.  Performance is improved.

- Use new copy_byte() function on tilegx to spread a single byte value
  out into a full word using the shufflebytes instruction.

- Clean up header include ordering to be more canonical, and remove
  spurious #undefs of function names.

dd78bc11fb tile: convert uses of "inv" to "finv"
The "inv" (invalidate) instruction is generally less safe than "finv"
(flush and invalidate), as it will drop dirty data from the cache.
It turns out we have almost no need for "inv" (other than for the
older 32-bit architecture in some limited cases), so convert to
"finv" where possible and delete the extra "inv" infrastructure.

18f894c145 tile: delete __cpuinit usage from all tile files
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense
some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings
do not offset the cost and complications.  For example, the fix in
commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time")
is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created
with improper use of the various __init prefixes.

After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go
the way of devinit and be phased out.  Once all the users are gone,
we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h.

Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since
notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c)
are flagged as __cpuinit  -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from
arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings.
As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit
content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid
of these warnings.  In any case, they are temporary and harmless.

This removes all the arch/tile uses of the __cpuinit macros from
all C files.  Currently tile does not have any __CPUINIT used in
assembly files.

609838cfed mm: invoke oom-killer from remaining unconverted page fault handlers
A few remaining architectures directly kill the page faulting task in an
out of memory situation.  This is usually not a good idea since that
task might not even use a significant amount of memory and so may not be
the optimal victim to resolve the situation.

Since 2.6.29's 1c0fe6e ("mm: invoke oom-killer from page fault") there
is a hook that architecture page fault handlers are supposed to call to
invoke the OOM killer and let it pick the right task to kill.  Convert
the remaining architectures over to this hook.

To have the previous behavior of simply taking out the faulting task the
vm.oom_kill_allocating_task sysctl can be set to 1.

  instance, could obviously go in to the "compiler options" menu, but
  the fact that it is defined in arch/ in a separate Kconfig file keeps
  it on its own for the moment.

Several architectures have similar stack debugging config options.
They all pretty much do the same thing, some with slightly
differing help text.

This patch changes the architectures to instead enable a Kconfig
boolean, and then use that boolean in the generic Kconfig.debug
to present the actual menu option.  This removes a bunch of
duplication and adds consistency across arches.

0c98853473 mm: concentrate modification of totalram_pages into the mm core
Concentrate code to modify totalram_pages into the mm core, so the arch
memory initialized code doesn't need to take care of it.  With these
changes applied, only following functions from mm core modify global
variable totalram_pages: free_bootmem_late(), free_all_bootmem(),
free_all_bootmem_node(), adjust_managed_page_count().

With this patch applied, it will be much more easier for us to keep
totalram_pages and zone->managed_pages in consistence.

  3. Accesses (e.g through socket ops) to kernel memory with KERNEL_DS
     like net/sunrpc does will never sleep.  Remove an unconditinal
     might_sleep() in the might_fault() inline in kernel.h (used when
     PROVE_LOCKING is not set).

  4. Accesses with pagefault_disable() return EFAULT but won't cause
     caller to sleep.  Check for that and thus avoid might_sleep() when
     PROVE_LOCKING is set.

  These changes offer a nice speedup for CONFIG_PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY=y
  kernels, here's a network bandwidth measurement between a virtual
  machine and the host:

   before:
        incoming: 7122.77   Mb/s
        outgoing: 8480.37   Mb/s

   after:
        incoming: 8619.24   Mb/s   [ +21.0% ]
        outgoing: 9455.42   Mb/s   [ +11.5% ]

Most of the stuff from kernel/sched.c was moved to kernel/sched/core.c long time
back and the comments/Documentation never got updated.

I figured it out when I was going through sched-domains.txt and so thought of
fixing it globally.

I haven't crossed check if the stuff that is referenced in sched/core.c by all
these files is still present and hasn't changed as that wasn't the motive behind
this patch.

3cb3f839d3 tilepro: work around module link error with gcc 4.7
gcc 4.7.x is emitting calls to __ffsdi2 where previously
it used to inline the appropriate ctz instructions.
While this needs to be fixed in gcc, it's also easy to avoid
having it cause build failures when building with those
compilers by exporting __ffsdi2 to modules.

c539914dcd tile: support new Tilera hypervisor
The Tilera hypervisor shipped in releases up through MDE 4.1 launches
the client operating system (i.e. Linux) at privilege level 1 (PL1).
Starting with MDE 4.2, as part of the work to enable KVM, the
Tilera hypervisor launches Linux at PL2 instead.

This commit makes the KERNEL_PL option default to 2 for tilegx, while
still saying at 1 for tilepro, which doesn't have an updated hypervisor.
It also explains how and when you might want to choose another value.
In addition, we change a small buglet in the on-chip Ethernet driver,
where we were failing to use the KERNEL_PL constant in an API call.

To make the transition cleaner, this change also provides the updated
hv_init() API for the new hypervisor that supports announcing Linux's
compiled-in PL, so the hypervisor can generate a suitable error in the
case of a mismatched hypervisor and Linux binary.

446f24d119 Kconfig: consolidate CONFIG_DEBUG_STRICT_USER_COPY_CHECKS
The help text for this config is duplicated across the x86, parisc, and
s390 Kconfig.debug files.  Arnd Bergman noted that the help text was
slightly misleading and should be fixed to state that enabling this
option isn't a problem when using pre 4.4 gcc.

To simplify the rewording, consolidate the text into lib/Kconfig.debug
and modify it there to be more explicit about when you should say N to
this config.

Also, make the text a bit more generic by stating that this option
enables compile time checks so we can cover architectures which emit
warnings vs.  ones which emit errors.  The details of how an
architecture decided to implement the checks isn't as important as the
concept of compile time checking of copy_from_user() calls.

While we're doing this, remove all the copy_from_user_overflow() code
that's duplicated many times and place it into lib/ so that any
architecture supporting this option can get the function for free.

a43cb95d54 dump_stack: unify debug information printed by show_regs()
show_regs() is inherently arch-dependent but it does make sense to print
generic debug information and some archs already do albeit in slightly
different forms.  This patch introduces a generic function to print debug
information from show_regs() so that different archs print out the same
information and it's much easier to modify what's printed.

show_regs_print_info() prints out the same debug info as dump_stack()
does plus task and thread_info pointers.

* Archs which didn't print debug info now do.

  alpha, arc, blackfin, c6x, cris, frv, h8300, hexagon, ia64, m32r,
  metag, microblaze, mn10300, openrisc, parisc, score, sh64, sparc,
  um, xtensa

* Already prints debug info.  Replaced with show_regs_print_info().
  The printed information is superset of what used to be there.

  arm, arm64, avr32, mips, powerpc, sh32, tile, unicore32, x86

* s390 is special in that it used to print arch-specific information
  along with generic debug info.  Heiko and Martin think that the
  arch-specific extra isn't worth keeping s390 specfic implementation.
  Converted to use the generic version.

Note that now all archs print the debug info before actual register
dumps.

ef93247325 mm, vmalloc: change iterating a vmlist to find_vm_area()
This patchset removes vm_struct list management after initializing
vmalloc.  Adding and removing an entry to vmlist is linear time
complexity, so it is inefficient.  If we maintain this list, overall
time complexity of adding and removing area to vmalloc space is O(N),
although we use rbtree for finding vacant place and it's time complexity
is just O(logN).

And vmlist and vmlist_lock is used many places of outside of vmalloc.c.
It is preferable that we hide this raw data structure and provide
well-defined function for supporting them, because it makes that they
cannot mistake when manipulating theses structure and it makes us easily
maintain vmalloc layer.

For kexec and makedumpfile, I export vmap_area_list, instead of vmlist.

This patch:

The purpose of iterating a vmlist is finding vm area with specific virtual
address.  find_vm_area() is provided for this purpose and more efficient,

106c992a5e mm/hugetlb: add more arch-defined huge_pte functions
Commit abf09bed3c ("s390/mm: implement software dirty bits")
introduced another difference in the pte layout vs.  the pmd layout on
s390, thoroughly breaking the s390 support for hugetlbfs.  This requires
replacing some more pte_xxx functions in mm/hugetlbfs.c with a
huge_pte_xxx version.

This patch introduces those huge_pte_xxx functions and their generic
implementation in asm-generic/hugetlb.h, which will now be included on
all architectures supporting hugetlbfs apart from s390.  This change
will be a no-op for those architectures.

The current Tilera boot infrastructure now provides the initramfs
to Linux as a Tilera-hypervisor file named "initramfs", rather than
"initramfs.cpio.gz", as before.  (This makes it reasonable to use
other compression techniques than gzip on the file without having to
worry about the name causing confusion.)  Adapt to use the new name,
but also fall back to checking for the old name.

Cc'ing to stable so that older kernels will remain compatible with
newer Tilera boot infrastructure.

5a114b9866 tile: work around bug in the generic sys_llseek
sys_llseek should specify the high and low 32-bit seek values as "unsigned
int" but instead it specifies "unsigned long".  Since compat syscall
arguments are always sign-extended on tile, this means that a seek value
of 0xffffffff will be incorrectly interpreted as a value of -1ULL.

To avoid the risk of breaking binary compatibility on architectures
that already use sys_llseek this way, we follow the same path as MIPS
and provide a wrapper override.

ec8acf20af swap: add per-partition lock for swapfile
swap_lock is heavily contended when I test swap to 3 fast SSD (even
slightly slower than swap to 2 such SSD).  The main contention comes
from swap_info_get().  This patch tries to fix the gap with adding a new
per-partition lock.

Global data like nr_swapfiles, total_swap_pages, least_priority and
swap_list are still protected by swap_lock.

nr_swap_pages is an atomic now, it can be changed without swap_lock.  In
theory, it's possible get_swap_page() finds no swap pages but actually
there are free swap pages.  But sounds not a big problem.

Accessing partition specific data (like scan_swap_map and so on) is only
protected by swap_info_struct.lock.

Changing swap_info_struct.flags need hold swap_lock and
swap_info_struct.lock, because scan_scan_map() will check it.  read the
flags is ok with either the locks hold.

If both swap_lock and swap_info_struct.lock must be hold, we always hold
the former first to avoid deadlock.

swap_entry_free() can change swap_list.  To delete that code, we add a
new highest_priority_index.  Whenever get_swap_page() is called, we
check it.  If it's valid, we use it.

It's a pity get_swap_page() still holds swap_lock().  But in practice,
swap_lock() isn't heavily contended in my test with this patch (or I can
say there are other much more heavier bottlenecks like TLB flush).  And
BTW, looks get_swap_page() doesn't really need the lock.  We never free
swap_info[] and we check SWAP_WRITEOK flag.  The only risk without the
lock is we could swapout to some low priority swap, but we can quickly
recover after several rounds of swap, so sounds not a big deal to me.
But I'd prefer to fix this if it's a real problem.

"swap: make each swap partition have one address_space" improved the
swapout speed from 1.7G/s to 2G/s.  This patch further improves the
speed to 2.3G/s, so around 15% improvement.  It's a multi-process test,
so TLB flush isn't the biggest bottleneck before the patches.

ffecfd1a72 block: optionally snapshot page contents to provide stable pages during write
This provides a band-aid to provide stable page writes on jbd without
needing to backport the fixed locking and page writeback bit handling
schemes of jbd2.  The band-aid works by using bounce buffers to snapshot
page contents instead of waiting.

For those wondering about the ext3 bandage -- fixing the jbd locking
(which was done as part of ext4dev years ago) is a lot of surgery, and
setting PG_writeback on data pages when we actually hold the page lock
dropped ext3 performance by nearly an order of magnitude.  If we're
going to migrate iscsi and raid to use stable page writes, the
complaints about high latency will likely return.  We might as well
centralize their page snapshotting thing to one place.

7c63e1ee0a tile: export a handful of symbols appropriately
This was shown up by running with "allmodconfig".  I used
EXPORT_SYMBOL() to match existing conventions in files that
were already exporting symbols, or that were exported that way
by other architectures, and otherwise EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL().

7f04f08168 tile: avoid defining INT_MASK macro in <arch/interrupts.h>
Unfortunately, this name conflicts with a different use of
the name in various places through the tree, so don't provide
it for the kernel.  We preserve it for userspace to avoid
breaking any userspace code that relies on this definition.

This fixes a number of compile errors for various drivers that
are enabled by "allyesconfig".

4f73bc4dd3 tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTY
The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.

The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer.  Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY.  The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.

This fixes up all of the smaller arches that had __dev* markings for
their platform-specific drivers.

CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option.  As a result, the __dev*
markings need to be removed.

This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata,
__devinitconst, and __devexit from these drivers.

Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me
in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.

Kill the conditionals and make both callers use do_execve().

0ad50c3896 compat: generic compat_sys_sched_rr_get_interval() implementation
This function is used by sparc, powerpc tile and arm64 for compat support.
 The patch adds a generic implementation with a wrapper for PowerPC to do
the u32->int sign extension.

The reason for a single patch covering powerpc, tile, sparc and arm64 is
to keep it bisectable, otherwise kernel building may fail with mismatched
function declarations.

Use the newer idioms for setting PTRACE_O_xxx and PT_TRACE_xxx flags.
Only set/clear tile-specific flags if the generic routine returns
success, since otherwise we want to avoid setting any flags at all.
Atomically update the ptrace flags with the new values.  Eliminate
the PT_TRACE_MASK_TILE bitmask and just shift PTRACE_O_MASK_TILE.
Add a BUILD_BUG_ON to avoid overlapping with generic bits.

82fab442f5 modules: don't hand 0 to vmalloc.
In commit d0a21265df David Rientjes unified various archs'
module_alloc implementation (including x86) and removed the graduitous
shortcut for size == 0.

Then, in commit de7d2b567d, Joe Perches added a warning for
zero-length vmallocs, which can happen without kallsyms on modules
with no init sections (eg. zlib_deflate).

Fix this once and for all; the module code has to handle zero length
anyway, so get it right at the caller and remove the now-gratuitous
checks within the arch-specific module_alloc implementations.

     do transition to user mode anymore.

     arch-independent now - they live in kernel/fork.c and fs/exec.c
     resp.  sys_execve() is also in fs/exec.c and it's completely
     architecture-independent.

   - daemonize() is gone, along with its parts in fs/*.c

   - struct pt_regs * is no longer passed to do_fork/copy_process/
     copy_thread/do_execve/search_binary_handler/->load_binary/do_coredump.

   - sys_fork()/sys_vfork()/sys_clone() unified; some architectures
     still need wrappers (ones with callee-saved registers not saved in
     pt_regs on syscall entry), but the main part of those suckers is in
     kernel/fork.c now."

In order to promote interoperability between userspace tracers and ftrace,
add a trace_clock that reports raw TSC values which will then be recorded
in the ring buffer. Userspace tracers that also record TSCs are then on
exactly the same time base as the kernel and events can be unambiguously
interlaced.

Tested: Enabled a tracepoint and the "tsc" trace_clock and saw very large
timestamp values.

Using the new current_pt_regs() model, we can remove some trampolines
from assembly code and call directly to the C syscall implementations.
rt_sigreturn() and clone() still need some assembly wrapping, but no
longer are passed a pt_regs pointer.  sigaltstack() and the
tilepro-specific cmpxchg_badaddr() syscalls are now just straight C.

627072b06c arch/tile: avoid generating .eh_frame information in modules
The tile tool chain uses the .eh_frame information for backtracing.
The vmlinux build drops any .eh_frame sections at link time, but when
present in kernel modules, it causes a module load failure due to the
presence of unsupported pc-relative relocations.  When compiling to
use compiler feedback support, the compiler by default omits .eh_frame
information, so we don't see this problem.  But when not using feedback,
we need to explicitly suppress the .eh_frame.

to make them non-empty so that the patch program doesn't remove them when it

Possibly they should be just deleted, but it's possible that they'll acquire
generic-y or genhdr-y lines in future, so I'm keeping them around for the
moment.

Note that MIPS will compile happily if the file is deleted instead.  I haven't
tested TILE, but I suspect it will be the same there.

91a27b2a75 vfs: define struct filename and have getname() return it
getname() is intended to copy pathname strings from userspace into a
kernel buffer. The result is just a string in kernel space. It would
however be quite helpful to be able to attach some ancillary info to
the string.

For instance, we could attach some audit-related info to reduce the
amount of audit-related processing needed. When auditing is enabled,
we could also call getname() on the string more than once and not
need to recopy it from userspace.

This patchset converts the getname()/putname() interfaces to return
a struct instead of a string. For now, the struct just tracks the
string in kernel space and the original userland pointer for it.

Later, we'll add other information to the struct as it becomes
convenient.

45cac65b0f readahead: fault retry breaks mmap file read random detection
.fault now can retry.  The retry can break state machine of .fault.  In
filemap_fault, if page is miss, ra->mmap_miss is increased.  In the second
try, since the page is in page cache now, ra->mmap_miss is decreased.  And
these are done in one fault, so we can't detect random mmap file access.

Add a new flag to indicate .fault is tried once.  In the second try, skip
ra->mmap_miss decreasing.  The filemap_fault state machine is ok with it.

I only tested x86, didn't test other archs, but looks the change for other
archs is obvious, but who knows :)

5d3a551c28 mm: hugetlb: add arch hook for clearing page flags before entering pool
The core page allocator ensures that page flags are zeroed when freeing
pages via free_pages_check.  A number of architectures (ARM, PPC, MIPS)
rely on this property to treat new pages as dirty with respect to the data
cache and perform the appropriate flushing before mapping the pages into
userspace.

This can lead to cache synchronisation problems when using hugepages,
since the allocator keeps its own pool of pages above the usual page
allocator and does not reset the page flags when freeing a page into the
pool.

This patch adds a new architecture hook, arch_clear_hugepage_flags, so
that architectures which rely on the page flags being in a particular
state for fresh allocations can adjust the flags accordingly when a page
is freed into the pool.

Some security modules and oprofile still uses VM_EXECUTABLE for retrieving

     an asm-generic/ version.

     It seems the "ifneq $((wildcard ...),)" for each of those three
     headers in include/kernel/Kbuild is invoked twice during header
     installation, and the second time it matches on the just installed
     asm-generic/kvm_para.h file and thus incorrectly installs
     linux/kvm_para.h as well.

     Most arches actually have an asm/kvm_para.h, so this wasn't

751f409db6 compat: move compat_siginfo_t definition to asm/compat.h
This is a preparatory patch for the introduction of NT_SIGINFO elf note.

Make the location of compat_siginfo_t uniform across eight architectures
which have it.  Now it can be pulled in by including asm/compat.h or
linux/compat.h.

Most of the copies are verbatim.  compat_uid[32]_t had to be replaced by
__compat_uid[32]_t.  compat_uptr_t had to be moved up before
compat_siginfo_t in asm/compat.h on a several architectures (tile already
had it moved up).  compat_sigval_t had to be relocated from linux/compat.h
to asm/compat.h.

9f6547a320 tile: fix personality bits handling upon exec()
Historically, the top three bytes of personality have been used for
things such as ADDR_NO_RANDOMIZE, which made sense only for specific
architectures.

We now however have a flag there that is general no matter the
architecture (UNAME26); generally we have to be careful to preserve the
personality flags across exec().

This patch fixes tile architecture not to forcefully overwrite
personality flags during exec().

In addition to that, we fix two other things along the way:

- exec_domain switching is fixed -- set_personality() should always
  be used instead of directly assigning to current->personality.
- as pointed out by Arnd Bergmann, PER_LINUX_32BIT is not used anywhere
  by tile, so let's just drop that in favor of PER_LINUX
