661ef475fd mac80211_hwsim: delay hardware remain-on-channel start
Typically drivers that implement hardware remain-on-channel will
have to wait for scheduling constraints, so make hwsim also wait
a little bit (only 20ms) before actually starting the operation.

a8e828deb3 mac80211_hwsim: do not actively scan DFS channels
We had another change to fix this in mac80211, but the hwsim
"hardware" scan should also be fixed. Obviously this one isn't
important since it's not real hardware, but we'd better be
consistent.

30686bf7f5 mac80211: convert HW flags to unsigned long bitmap
As we're running out of hardware capability flags pretty quickly,
convert them to use the regular test_bit() style unsigned long
bitmaps.

This introduces a number of helper functions/macros to set and to
test the bits, along with new debugfs code.

The occurrences of an explicit __clear_bit() are intentional, the
drivers were never supposed to change their supported bits on the
fly. We should investigate changing this to be a per-frame flag.

560676282e mac80211_hwsim: fix beacon timers
Jouni reported that certain combinations of hwsim test cases failed,
and we found that beaconing was erroneously enabled too early on any
channel switch, which lead to the BI of 2000 TU from the first test
case to leak into the second one, which then didn't beacon properly.

To fix this, set data->beacon_int to zero when all stop beaconing so
that beaconing cannot be started (which was intended as 'restarted')
elsewhere.

Additionally, Jouni found that due to this 'restart' and the beacon
interval handling station interfaces would also have a needlessly
running beacon timer all the time, of course not doing anything.

To also fix the latter case only use the beacon interval when it's
actually needed, i.e. when beaconing gets enabled.

f2831e2007 mac80211_hwsim: fix error handling in tx_frame_nl
Correct two problems with the error handling when using the netlink
forwarding API: first, the netlink skb is never freed if nla_put()
fails; and second, genlmsg_unicast() can fail if the netlink socket

as a drop and userspace programs like wmediumd will see TCP stalls
due to lost packets.

053c095a82 netlink: make nlmsg_end() and genlmsg_end() void
Contrary to common expectations for an "int" return, these functions
return only a positive value -- if used correctly they cannot even
return 0 because the message header will necessarily be in the skb.

This makes the very common pattern of

  if (genlmsg_end(...) < 0) { ... }

be a whole bunch of dead code. Many places also simply do

  return nlmsg_end(...);

and the caller is expected to deal with it.

This also commonly (at least for me) causes errors, because it is very
common to write

  if (my_function(...))
    /* error condition */

and if my_function() does "return nlmsg_end()" this is of course wrong.

Additionally, there's not a single place in the kernel that actually
needs the message length returned, and if anyone needs it later then
it'll be very easy to just use skb->len there.

Remove this, and make the functions void. This removes a bunch of dead
code as described above. The patch adds lines because I did

-	return nlmsg_end(...);
+	nlmsg_end(...);
+	return 0;

I could have preserved all the function's return values by returning
skb->len, but instead I've audited all the places calling the affected
functions and found that none cared. A few places actually compared
the return value with <= 0 in dump functionality, but that could just
be changed to < 0 with no change in behaviour, so I opted for the more
efficient version.

One instance of the error I've made numerous times now is also present
in net/phonet/pn_netlink.c in the route_dumpit() function - it didn't
check for <0 or <=0 and thus broke out of the loop every single time.
I've preserved this since it will (I think) have caused the messages to
userspace to be formatted differently with just a single message for
every SKB returned to userspace. It's possible that this isn't needed
for the tools that actually use this, but I don't even know what they
are so couldn't test that changing this behaviour would be acceptable.

value zero. Therefore do not send the alpha2 parameter to user space
if either of the characters has been left at its initial zero value.

    patches I did
  * custom regulatory fixes from Arik
  * minstrel VHT fix (and a small optimisation) from Felix
  * add back radiotap vendor namespace support (myself)
  * random MAC address scanning for cfg80211/mac80211/hwsim (myself)
  * CSA improvements (Luca)

93d638d49c mac80211-hwsim: Add HWSIM_CMD_GET_RADIO command
HWSIM_CMD_GET_RADIO returns information about a specific radio id or
all of them in response to a dump. Create the netlink skb or use the
one provided by the dump functionality. Use the existing attribute
appending function to fill in the same attributes when creating a
new hwsim radio.

Save alpha2 and struct ieee80211_regdomain in the hwsim data or else
they will be lost in the depths of regulatory infrastructure.

1f7bba79af mac80211: add back support for radiotap vendor namespace data

3fd0202a0d Merge tag 'master-2014-07-25' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-next
John W. Linville says:

====================
pull request: wireless-next 2014-07-25

Please pull this batch of updates intended for the 3.17 stream!

For the mac80211 bits, Johannes says:

"We have a lot of TDLS patches, among them a fix that should make hwsim
tests happy again. The rest, this time, is mostly small fixes."

For the Bluetooth bits, Gustavo says:

"Some more patches for 3.17. The most important change here is the move of
the 6lowpan code to net/6lowpan. It has been agreed with Davem that this
change will go through the bluetooth tree. The rest are mostly clean up and
fixes."

and,

"Here follows some more patches for 3.17. These are mostly fixes to what
we've sent to you before for next merge window."

For the iwlwifi bits, Emmanuel says:

"I have the usual amount of BT Coex stuff. Arik continues to work
on TDLS and Ariej contributes a few things for HS2.0. I added a few
more things to the firmware debugging infrastructure. Eran fixes a
small bug - pretty normal content."

And for the Atheros bits, Kalle says:

"For ath6kl me and Jessica added support for ar6004 hw3.0, our latest
version of ar6004.

For ath10k Janusz added a printout so that it's easier to check what
ath10k kconfig options are enabled. He also added a debugfs file to
configure maximum amsdu and ampdu values. Also we had few fixes as
usual."

On top of that is the usual large batch of various driver updates --
brcmfmac, mwifiex, the TI drivers, and wil6210 all get some action.
Rafał has also been very busy with b43 and related updates.

Also, I pulled the wireless tree into this in order to resolve a
merge conflict...

P.S. The change to fs/compat_ioctl.c reflects a name change in a
Bluetooth header file...

5d26b50813 mac80211_hwsim: fix compiler warning on MIPS
The dividend in do_div() is expected to be an unsigned 64-bit integer,
which leads to the following warning when building for 32-bit MIPS:

c56ef67250 mac80211: support more than one band in scan request
Some drivers (such as iwlmvm) can handle multiple bands in a single
HW scan request. Add a HW flag to indicate that the driver support
this. To hold the required data, create a separate structure for
HW scan request that holds cfg scan request and data about
different parts of the scan IEs.

As this changes the mac80211 API, update all drivers using it to

c53ed74236 genetlink: only pass array to genl_register_family_with_ops()
As suggested by David Miller, make genl_register_family_with_ops()
a macro and pass only the array, evaluating ARRAY_SIZE() in the
macro, this is a little safer.

The openvswitch has some indirection, assing ops/n_ops directly in
that code. This might ultimately just assign the pointers in the

18b559d5db mac80211: split TX aggregation stop action
When TX aggregation is stopped, there are a few
different cases:
 - connection with the peer was dropped
 - session stop was requested locally
 - session stop was requested by the peer
 - connection was dropped while a session is stopping

The behaviour in these cases should be different, if
the connection is dropped then the driver should drop
all frames, otherwise the frames may continue to be
transmitted, aggregated in the case of a locally
requested session stop or unaggregated in the case of
the peer requesting session stop.

Split these different cases so that the driver can
act accordingly; however, treat local and remote stop
the same way and ask the driver to not send frames as
aggregated packets any more.

In the case of connection drop, the stop callback the
driver is otherwise supposed to call is no longer
required.

that is passed as a function parameter to the drivers' tx method.

4b6f1dd6a6 mac80211: add explicit monitor interface if needed
The queue mapping redesign that I'm planning to do
will break pure injection unless we handle monitor
interfaces explicitly. One possible option would
be to have the driver tell mac80211 about monitor
mode queues etc., but that would duplicate the API
since we already need to have queue assignments
handled per virtual interface.

So in order to solve this, have a virtual monitor
interface that is added whenever all active vifs
are monitors. We could also use the state of one
of the monitor interfaces, but managing that would
be complicated, so allocate separate state.

7882513bac mac80211_hwsim driver support userspace frame tx/rx
This patch adds to mac80211_hwsim the capability to send traffic via
userspace.

Frame exchange between kernel and user spaces is done through generic
netlink communication protocol. A new generic netlink family
MAC80211_HWSIM is proposed, this family contains three basic commands
HWSIM_CMD_REGISTER, which is the command used to register a new
traffic listener, HWSIM_CMD_FRAME, to exchange the frames from kernel
to user and vice-versa, and HWSIM_CMD_TX_INFO_FRAME which returns
from user all the information about retransmissions, rates, rx signal,
and so on.

How it works:

Once the driver is loaded the MAC80211_HWSIM family will be registered.
In the absence of userspace daemon, the driver itselfs implements a
perfect wireless medium as it did in the past. When a daemon sends a
HWSIM_CMD_REGISTER command, the module stores the application PID, and
from this moment all frames will be sent to the registered daemon.

The user space application will be in charge of process/forward all
frames broadcast by any mac80211_hwsim radio. If the user application
is stopped, the kernel module will detect the release of the socket
and it will switch back to in-kernel perfect channel simulation.

The userspace daemon must be waiting for incoming HWSIM_CMD_FRAME
commands sent from kernel, for each HWSIM_CMD_FRAME command the
application will try to broadcast this frame to all mac80211_hwsim
radios, however the application may decide to forward/drop this frame.
In the case of forwarding the frame, a new HWSIM_CMD_FRAME command will
be created, all necessary attributes will be populated and the frame
will be sent back to the kernel.

Also after the frame broadcast phase, a HWSIM_CMD_TX_INFO_FRAME
command will be sent from userspace to kernel, this command contains
all the information regarding the transmission, such as number of
tries, rates, ack signal, etc.

You can find the actual implementation of wireless mediumd daemon

7bb4568372 mac80211: make tx() operation return void
The return value of the tx operation is commonly
misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers
will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and
they must also properly manage the queues (if they
didn't, mac80211 would already warn).

Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY
value also allows significant cleanups of the TX
TX handling code in mac80211.

Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the

0b01f030d3 mac80211: track receiver's aggregation reorder buffer size
The aggregation code currently doesn't implement the
buffer size negotiation. It will always request a max
buffer size (which is fine, if a little pointless, as
the mac80211 code doesn't know and might just use 0
instead), but if the peer requests a smaller size it
isn't possible to honour this request.

In order to fix this, look at the buffer size in the
addBA response frame, keep track of it and pass it to
the driver in the ampdu_action callback when called
with the IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_OPERATIONAL action. That
way the driver can limit the number of subframes in
aggregates appropriately.

Note that this doesn't fix any drivers apart from the
addition of the new argument -- they all need to be
updated separately to use this variable!

8223d2f540 mac80211_hwsim: fix fake_hw_scan
Since mac80211 will not set the max_scan parameters
if hw scan is enabled, hwsim needs to do it so that
cfg80211 won't reject the scan.

0aaffa9b96 mac80211: improve HT channel handling
Currently, when one interface switches HT mode,
all others will follow along. This is clearly
undesirable, since the new one might switch to
no-HT while another one is operating in HT.

Address this issue by keeping track of the HT
mode per interface, and allowing only changes
that are compatible, i.e. switching into HT40+
is not possible when another interface is in
HT40-, in that case the second one needs to
fall back to HT20.

Also, to allow drivers to know what's going on,
store the per-interface HT mode (channel type)
in the virtual interface's bss_conf.

a75b4363ea mac80211: allow controlling aggregation manually
This allows enabling TX and disabling both TX and
RX aggregation sessions manually in debugfs. It is
very useful for debugging session initiation and
teardown problems since with this you don't have
to force a lot of traffic to get aggregation and
thus have less data to analyse.

Also, to debug mac80211 code itself, make hwsim
"support" aggregation sessions. It will still just
transfer the frame, but go through the setup and
teardown handshakes.

a060bbfe4e mac80211: give virtual interface to hw_scan
When scanning, it is somewhat important to scan
on the correct virtual interface. All drivers
that currently implement hw_scan only support a
single virtual interface, but that may change
and then we'd want to be ready.

5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

690680360c mac80211_hwsim: add fake hw scan handler
For debugging hardware scan trigger/complete
functionality, it was useful to have code in
hwsim that pretends to do a hardware scan.

This code could be extended to actually do the
scan, but for now it was sufficient for me to
only pretend. Since hwsim was written to ease
debugging, it only makes sense to add it to it
permanently.
