393753b217 can: m_can.c: fix setup of CCCR register: clear CCCR NISO bit before checking can.ctrlmode
Inside m_can_chip_config(), when setting up the new value of the CCCR,
the CCCR_NISO bit is not cleared like the others, CCCR_TEST, CCCR_MON,
CCCR_BRSE and CCCR_FDOE, before checking the can.ctrlmode bits for
CAN_CTRLMODE_FD_NON_ISO.

This way once the controller was configured for CAN_CTRLMODE_FD_NON_ISO,
this mode could never be cleared again.

This fix is only relevant for controllers with version 3.1.x or 3.2.x.
Older versions do not support NISO.

5d4c94ed9f can: peak_canfd: fix firmware < v3.3.0: limit allocation to 32-bit DMA addr only
The DMA logic in firmwares < v3.3.0 embedded in the PCAN-PCIe FD cards
family is not capable of handling a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit logical
addresses. If the board is equipped with 2 or 4 CAN ports, then such a
situation might lead to a PCIe Bus Error "Malformed TLP" packet
as well as "irq xx: nobody cared" issue.

This patch adds a workaround that requests only 32-bit DMA addresses
when these might be allocated outside of the 4 GB area.

This issue has been fixed in firmware v3.3.0 and next.

30f3b42147 can: mark led trigger as broken
The driver was suggested for deletion as it implements a subset of the
netdev trigger. It's in the way for further cleanups in the trigger
code but doesn't get an Ack by someone who can actually test and confirm
that the netdev trigger works for can devices. So marking as broken to
get forward with the cleanups.

6396bb2215 treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This
patch replaces cases of:

        kzalloc(a * b, gfp)

with:
        kcalloc(a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

Merge tag 'overflow-v4.18-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux

Pull overflow updates from Kees Cook:
"This adds the new overflow checking helpers and adds them to the
2-factor argument allocators. And this adds the saturating size
helpers and does a treewide replacement for the struct_size() usage.
Additionally this adds the overflow testing modules to make sure
  everything works.

I'm still working on the treewide replacements for allocators with
  "simple" multiplied arguments:

     *alloc(a * b, ...) -> *alloc_array(a, b, ...)

  and

     *zalloc(a * b, ...) -> *calloc(a, b, ...)

as well as the more complex cases, but that's separable from this
portion of the series. I expect to have the rest sent before -rc1
closes; there are a lot of messy cases to clean up.

  Summary:

   - Introduce arithmetic overflow test helper functions (Rasmus)

   - Use overflow helpers in 2-factor allocators (Kees, Rasmus)

   - Introduce overflow test module (Rasmus, Kees)

   - Introduce saturating size helper functions (Matthew, Kees)

   - Treewide use of struct_size() for allocators (Kees)"

32bee8f48f can: hi311x: Work around TX complete interrupt erratum
When sending packets as fast as possible using "cangen -g 0 -i -x", the
HI-3110 occasionally latches the interrupt pin high on completion of a
packet, but doesn't set the TXCPLT bit in the INTF register. The INTF
register contains 0x00 as if no interrupt has occurred. Even waiting
for a few milliseconds after the interrupt doesn't help.

Work around this apparent erratum by instead checking the TXMTY bit in
the STATF register ("TX FIFO empty"). We know that we've queued up a
packet for transmission if priv->tx_len is nonzero. If the TX FIFO is
empty, transmission of that packet must have completed.

Note that this is congruent with our handling of received packets, which
likewise gleans from the STATF register whether a packet is waiting in
the RX FIFO, instead of looking at the INTF register.

5cec9425b4 can: hi311x: Acquire SPI lock on ->do_get_berr_counter
hi3110_get_berr_counter() may run concurrently to the rest of the driver
but neglects to acquire the lock protecting access to the SPI device.
As a result, it and the rest of the driver may clobber each other's tx
and rx buffers.

We became aware of this issue because transmission of packets with
"cangen -g 0 -i -x" frequently hung. It turns out that agetty executes
->do_get_berr_counter every few seconds via the following call stack:

CPU: 2 PID: 1605 Comm: agetty
    [<7f3f7500>] (hi3110_get_berr_counter [hi311x])

    [<80661ec0>] (SyS_recvmsg)
    [<80108b20>] (ret_fast_syscall+0x0/0x1c)

agetty listens to netlink messages in order to update the login prompt
when IP addresses change (if /etc/issue contains \4 or \6 escape codes):
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/util-linux/util-linux.git/commit/?id=e36deb6424e8

It's a useful feature, though it seems questionable that it causes CAN
bit error statistics to be queried.

Be that as it may, if hi3110_get_berr_counter() is invoked while a frame
is sent by hi3110_hw_tx(), bogus SPI transfers like the following may
occur:

    => 12 00             (hi3110_get_berr_counter() wanted to transmit
EC 00 to query the transmit error counter,
but the first byte was overwritten by
                          hi3110_hw_tx_frame())

    => EA 00 3E 80 01 FB (hi3110_hw_tx_frame() wanted to transmit a
frame, but the first byte was overwritten by
                          hi3110_get_berr_counter() because it wanted
to query the receive error counter)

This sequence hangs the transmission because the driver believes it has
sent a frame and waits for the interrupt signaling completion, but in
reality the chip has never sent away the frame since the commands it
received were malformed.

Fix by acquiring the SPI lock in hi3110_get_berr_counter().

I've scrutinized the entire driver for further unlocked SPI accesses but
found no others.

0e030a373d can: flexcan: fix endianess detection
In commit 88462d2a78 ("can: flexcan: Remodel FlexCAN register r/w APIs
for big endian FlexCAN controllers.") the following logic was
implemented:

if the dt property "big-endian" is given or
the device is compatible to "fsl,p1010-flexcan":
		use big-endian mode;
	else
		use little-endian mode;

This relies on commit d50f4630c2 ("arm: dts: Remove p1010-flexcan
compatible from imx series dts") which was applied a few commits later.
Without this commit (or an old device tree used for booting a new
kernel) the flexcan devices on i.MX25, i.MX28, i.MX35 and i.MX53 match
the 'the device is compatible to "fsl,p1010-flexcan"' test and so are
switched erroneously to big endian mode.

Instead of the check above put a quirk in devtype data and rely on
of_match_device yielding the most compatible match

71c23a821c can: dev: increase bus-off message severity
bus-off is usually caused by hardware malfunction or configuration error
(baud rate mismatch) and causes a complete loss of communication.

Increase the "bus-off" message's severity from netdev_dbg() to
netdev_info() to make it visible to the user.

A can interface going into bus-off is similar in severity to ethernet's
"Link is Down" message, which is also printed at info level.

It is debatable whether the the "restarted" message should also be
changed to netdev_info() to make the interface state changes
comprehensible from the kernel log. I have chosen to keep the
"restarted" message at dbg for now as the "bus-off" message should be
enough for the user to notice and investigate the problem.

f5a8eb632b arch: remove obsolete architecture ports
This removes the entire architecture code for blackfin, cris, frv, m32r,
metag, mn10300, score, and tile, including the associated device drivers.

I have been working with the (former) maintainers for each one to ensure
that my interpretation was right and the code is definitely unused in
mainline kernels. Many had fond memories of working on the respective
ports to start with and getting them included in upstream, but also saw
no point in keeping the port alive without any users.

In the end, it seems that while the eight architectures are extremely
different, they all suffered the same fate: There was one company
in charge of an SoC line, a CPU microarchitecture and a software
ecosystem, which was more costly than licensing newer off-the-shelf
CPU cores from a third party (typically ARM, MIPS, or RISC-V). It seems
that all the SoC product lines are still around, but have not used the
custom CPU architectures for several years at this point. In contrast,
CPU instruction sets that remain popular and have actively maintained
kernel ports tend to all be used across multiple licensees.

The removal came out of a discussion that is now documented at
https://lwn.net/Articles/748074/. Unlike the original plans, I'm not
marking any ports as deprecated but remove them all at once after I made
sure that they are all unused. Some architectures (notably tile, mn10300,
and blackfin) are still being shipped in products with old kernels,
but those products will never be updated to newer kernel releases.

After this series, we still have a few architectures without mainline
 gcc support:

 - unicore32 and hexagon both have very outdated gcc releases, but the
maintainers promised to work on providing something newer. At least
in case of hexagon, this will only be llvm, not gcc.

 - openrisc, risc-v and nds32 are still in the process of finishing their
support or getting it added to mainline gcc in the first place.
They all have patched gcc-7.3 ports that work to some degree, but
complete upstream support won't happen before gcc-8.1. Csky posted
their first kernel patch set last week, their situation will be similar.

746201235b can: cc770: Fix queue stall & dropped RTR reply
While waiting for the TX object to send an RTR, an external message with a
matching id can overwrite the TX data. In this case we must call the rx
routine and then try transmitting the message that was overwritten again.

The queue was being stalled because the RX event did not generate an
interrupt to wake up the queue again and the TX event did not happen
because the TXRQST flag is reset by the chip when new data is received.

According to the CC770 datasheet the id of a message object should not be
changed while the MSGVAL bit is set. This has been fixed by resetting the
MSGVAL bit before modifying the object in the transmit function and setting
it after. It is not enough to set & reset CPUUPD.

It is important to keep the MSGVAL bit reset while the message object is
being modified. Otherwise, during RTR transmission, a frame with matching
id could trigger an rx-interrupt, which would cause a race condition
between the interrupt routine and the transmit function.

880dd464b4 can: ifi: Repair the error handling
The new version of the IFI CANFD core has significantly less complex
error state indication logic. In particular, the warning/error state
bits are no longer all over the place, but are all present in the
STATUS register. Moreover, there is a new IRQ register bit indicating
transition between error states (active/warning/passive/busoff).

This patch makes use of this bit to weed out the obscure selective
INTERRUPT register clearing, which was used to carry over the error
state indication into the poll function. While at it, this patch
fixes the handling of the ACTIVE state, since the hardware provides
indication of the core being in ACTIVE state and that in turn fixes
the state transition indication toward userspace. Finally, register
reads in the poll function are moved to the matching subfunctions
since those are also no longer needed in the poll function.

e759c626d8 can: m_can: Support higher speed CAN-FD bitrates
During test transmitting using CAN-FD at high bitrates (> 2 Mbps)
would fail. Scoping the signals I noticed that only a single bit
was being transmitted and with a bit more investigation realized the
actual MCAN IP would go back to initialization mode automatically.

It appears this issue is due to the MCAN needing to use the Transmitter
Delay Compensation Mode with the correct value for the transmitter delay
compensation offset (tdco). What impacts the tdco value isn't 100% clear
but to calculate it you use an equation defined in the MCAN User's Guide.

The user guide mentions that this register needs to be set based on clock
values, secondary sample point and the data bitrate. One of the key
variables that can't automatically be determined is the secondary
sample point (ssp). This ssp is similar to the sp but is specific to this
transmitter delay compensation mode. The guidelines for configuring
ssp is rather vague but via some CAN test it appears for DRA76x that
putting the value same as data sampling point works.

The CAN-CIA's "Bit Time Requirements for CAN FD" paper presented at
the International CAN Conference 2013 indicates that this TDC mode is
only needed for data bit rates above 2.5 Mbps. Therefore, only enable
this mode when the data bit rate is above 2.5 Mbps.

2290aefa2e can: dev: Add support for limiting configured bitrate
Various CAN or CAN-FD IP may be able to run at a faster rate than
what the transceiver the CAN node is connected to. This can lead to
unexpected errors. However, CAN transceivers typically have fixed
limitations and provide no means to discover these limitations at
runtime. Therefore, add support for a can-transceiver node that
can be reused by other CAN peripheral drivers to determine for both
CAN and CAN-FD what the max bitrate that can be used. If the user
tries to configure CAN to pass these maximum bitrates it will throw
an error.

Also add support for reading bitrate_max via the netlink interface.

pull-request: can-next 2017-12-01,Re: pull-request: can-next

this is a pull request of 7 patches for net-next/master.

All patches are by me. Patch 6 is for the "can_raw" protocol and add
error checking to the bind() function. All other patches clean up the
coding style and remove unused parameters in various CAN drivers and
infrastructure.

88462d2a78 can: flexcan: Remodel FlexCAN register r/w APIs for big endian FlexCAN controllers.
The FlexCAN driver assumed that FlexCAN controller is big endian for
powerpc architecture and little endian for other architectures.

But this may not be the case. FlexCAN controller can be little or big
endian on any architecture. For e.g. NXP LS1021A ARM based SOC has big
endian FlexCAN controller.

Therefore, the driver has been modified to add a provision for both
types of controllers using an additional device tree property. On a
"fsl,p1010-flexcan" device BE is default, on all other devices LE is.

Big Endian controllers should have "big-endian" set in the device tree.
check "Documentation/devicetree/bindings/net/can/fsl-flexcan.txt" for
usage.

This is the standard practice followed in linux. for more info check:

Linus Torvalds
ead751507d License cleanup: add SPDX license identifiers to some files
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
 Philippe Ombredanne.

 How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
 the use cases:
  - file had no licensing information it it.
  - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
  - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
  - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.

    lines of source
  - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
 identifiers to apply.

  - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
    COPYING file license applied.

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

  - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
    the concluded license(s).

  - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

  - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

  - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

  - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
    in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
 they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
 in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
 correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
 version early this week with:
  - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
    license ids and scores
  - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
  - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
    SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
 generate the patches.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets

in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual

 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This

different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the

based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different

There were quite a few overlapping sets of changes here.

Daniel's bug fix for off-by-ones in the new BPF branch instructions,

collided with the metadata additions.

Along with those three changes came veritifer test cases, which in

Changes were made to the mv88e6060.c driver set addr method

97819f9430 can: gs_usb: fix busy loop if no more TX context is available
If sending messages with no cable connected, it quickly happens that
there is no more TX context available. Then "gs_can_start_xmit()"
returns with "NETDEV_TX_BUSY" and the upper layer does retry
immediately keeping the CPU busy. To fix that issue, I moved
"atomic_dec(&dev->active_tx_urbs)" from "gs_usb_xmit_callback()" to
the TX done handling in "gs_usb_receive_bulk_callback()". Renaming
"active_tx_urbs" to "active_tx_contexts" and moving it into
"gs_[alloc|free]_tx_context()" would also make sense.

da49a8075c can: flexcan: implement error passive state quirk
Add FLEXCAN_QUIRK_BROKEN_PERR_STATE for better description of the
missing error passive interrupt quirk.

Error interrupt flooding may happen if the broken error state quirk fix
is enabled. For example, in case there is singled out node on the bus
and the node sends a frame, then error interrupt flooding happens and
will not stop because the node cannot go to bus off. The flooding will
stop after another node connected to the bus again.

If high bitrate configured on the low end system, then the flooding
may causes performance issue, hence, this patch mitigates this by:
1. disable error interrupt upon error passive state transition
2. re-enable error interrupt upon error warning state transition
3. disable/enable error interrupt upon error active state transition
   depends on FLEXCAN_QUIRK_BROKEN_WERR_STATE

In this way, the driver is still able to report correct state
transitions without additional latency. When there are bus problems,
flooding of error interrupts is limited to the number of frames required
to change state from error warning to error passive if the core has
[TR]WRN_INT connected (FLEXCAN_QUIRK_BROKEN_WERR_STATE is not enabled),
otherwise, the flooding is limited to the number of frames required to
change state from error active to error passive.

cf124db566 net: Fix inconsistent teardown and release of private netdev state.
Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using
netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources
can occur in one of two different places.

Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor().

The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon
whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it
is safe to perform the freeing.

netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the
NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast
address lists are flushed.

netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the
netdev references all go away.

Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor()
almost universally does also a free_netdev().

This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice().
Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing
of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice()
fails.

If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside
of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But
it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor().

This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and
then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same.

However, this means that the resources that would normally be released
by netdev->destructor() will not be.

Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by
invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice()
fails.

Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks.

Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what
private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether
the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev().

netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private
resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for
free_netdev().

netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether
free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice().

Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after
ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit()
and netdev->priv_destructor().

And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke
netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev().

iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)

dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value

Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
  future use.

A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.

The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.

The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
  reasonable default.

What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.

Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
  doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.

[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
      an already existing field"

* Added defines for TX Event FIFO Element
* Adapted ndo_start_xmit function.
For versions >= v3.1.x it uses the TX FIFO to optimize the data
throughput. It stores the echo skb at the same index as in the
M_CAN's TX FIFO. The frame's message marker is set to this index.
This message marker is received in the TX Event FIFO after
the message was successfully transmitted. It is used to echo the
correct echo skb back to the network stack.
* Added m_can_echo_tx_event function. It reads all received

b03cfc5bb0 can: m_can: Enable M_CAN version dependent initialization
This patch adapts the initialization of the M_CAN. So it can be used
with all versions >= 3.0.x.

Changes:
* Added version element to m_can_priv structure to hold M_CAN version.
* Renamed bittiming structs for version 3.0.x
* Added new bittiming structs for version >= 3.1.x
* Function alloc_m_can_dev takes 2 new arguments. The TX FIFO size and the
  base address of the module.
* Chip configuration for CAN_CTRLMODE_LOOPBACK is changed: Enabled
CCCR_MON bit. In combination with TEST_LBCK it activates the internal
loopback mode. Leaving CCCR_MON '0' results in external loopback mode.
* Clocks are temporarily enabled by platform_propbe function in order to
allow read access to the Core Release register and the Control Register.
Registers are used to detect M_CAN version and optional Non-ISO Feature.

Initialization of M_CAN for version >= 3.1.x:
* TX FIFO of M_CAN is used to transmit frames. The driver does not need to
stop the tx queue after each frame sent.
* Initialization of TX Event FIFO is added.
* NON-ISO is fixed for all M_CAN versions < 3.2.x. Version 3.2.x _can_ have
the NISO (Non-ISO) bit which can switch the mode of the M_CAN to Non-ISO
mode. This bit does not have to be writeable. Therefore it is checked.
If it is writable Non-ISO support is added to the controllers supported
  CAN modes.

New Functions:
* Function to check the Core Release version. The read value determines the
  behaviour of the driver.
* Function to check if the NISO bit for version >= 3.2.x is implemented.

8ac8321e4a can: peak: add support for PEAK PCAN-PCIe FD CAN-FD boards
This patch adds the support of the PCAN-PCI Express FD boards made
by PEAK-System, for computers using the PCI Express slot.

The PCAN-PCI Express FD has one or two CAN FD channels, depending
on the model. A galvanic isolation of the CAN ports protects
the electronics of the card and the respective computer against
disturbances of up to 500 Volts. The PCAN-PCI Express FD can be operated
with ambient temperatures in a range of -40 to +85 °C.

Such boards run an extented version of the CAN-FD IP running into USB
CAN-FD interfaces from PEAK-System, so this patch adds several new commands

e43f2c52a0 Annotate hardware config module parameters in drivers/net/can/
When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.

To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.

Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.

This patch annotates drivers in drivers/net/can/.

b3cf53e988 can: flexcan: add support for timestamp based rx-offload
The flexcan IP core has 64 mailboxes. For now they are configured for
RX as a hardware FIFO. This FIFO has a fixed depth of 6 CAN frames. In
some high load scenarios it turns out thas this buffer is too small.

In order to have a buffer larger than the 6 frames FIFO, this patch adds
support for timestamp based offloading via the generic rx-offload
infrastructure.

4bd888a80b can: flexcan: activate individual RX masking and initialize reg_rximr
Modern flexcan IP cores support two RX modes. One is using the 6 fames deep
hardware FIFO, the other is using up to 64 mailboxes (in non FIFO mode). For
now only the HW FIFO mode is activated.

In order to make use of the RX mailboxes the individual RX masking feature has
to be activated, otherwise matching mailboxes are overwritten during the
reception process. This however switches on the individual RX masking, which
uses reg_rximr registers for masking.

This patch activates the individual RX masking feature unconditionally and
initializes the mask registers (reg_rximr) with 0x0 == "don't care", which
switches off any filtering.

This patch converts the flexcan driver to make use of the rx-offload

3abbac0b5d can: rx-offload: Add support for timestamp based irq offloading
Some CAN controllers don't implement a FIFO in hardware, but fill their
mailboxes in a particular order (from lowest to highest or highest to lowest).
This makes problems to read the frames in the correct order from the hardware,
as new frames might be filled into just read (low) mailboxes. This gets worse,
when following new frames are received into not read (higher) mailboxes.

On the bright side some these CAN controllers put a timestamp on each received
CAN frame. This patch adds support to offload CAN frames in interrupt context,
order them by timestamp and then transmitted in a NAPI context.

The PCAN-USB X6 registers in the USB sub-system as if 3x PCAN-USB-Pro FD

- updates the PEAK_USB entry of the corresponding Kconfig file
- defines and adds the device id. of the PCAN-USB X6 (0x0014) into the

A timer was used to restart after the bus-off state, leading to a
relatively large can_restart() executed in an interrupt context,
which in turn sets up pinctrl. When this happens during system boot,

4de349e786 can: flexcan: fix resume function
On a imx6ul-pico board the following error is seen during system suspend:

dpm_run_callback(): platform_pm_resume+0x0/0x54 returns -110
PM: Device 2090000.flexcan failed to resume: error -110

The reason for this suspend error is because when the CAN interface is not
active the clocks are disabled and then flexcan_chip_enable() will
always fail due to a timeout error.

In order to fix this issue, only call flexcan_chip_enable/disable()
when the CAN interface is active.

dd3bd23eb4 can: rcar_canfd: Add Renesas R-Car CAN FD driver
This patch adds support for the CAN FD controller found in Renesas R-Car
SoCs. The controller operates in CAN FD only mode by default.

CAN FD mode supports both Classical CAN & CAN FD frame formats. The
controller supports ISO 11898-1:2015 CAN FD format only.

This controller supports two channels and the driver can enable either
or both of the channels.

Driver uses Rx FIFOs (one per channel) for reception & Common FIFOs (one
per channel) for transmission. Rx filter rules are configured to the
minimum (one per channel) and it accepts Standard, Extended, Data &
Remote Frame combinations.

Note: There are few documentation errors in R-Car Gen3 Hardware User
Manual v0.5E with respect to CAN FD controller. They are listed below:

1. CAN FD interrupt numbers 29 & 30 are listed as per channel
interrupts. However, they are common to both channels (i.e.) they are
global and channel interrupts respectively.

2. CANFD clock is derived from PLL1. This is not documented.

3. CANFD clock is further divided by (1/2) within the CAN FD controller.
This is not documented.

4. The minimum value of NTSEG1 in RSCFDnCFDCmNCFG register is 2 Tq. It
is specified 4 Tq in the manual.

5. The maximum number of message RAM area the controller can use is 3584
bytes. It is specified 10752 bytes in the manual.

7da29f97d6 can: dev: can-calc-bit-timing(): better sample point calculation
This patch optimizes the calculation of the sample point. To understand what it
does have a look at the original implementation.

If there is a combination of timing parameters where both the bitrate and
sample point error are 0 the current implementation will find it.

However if the reference clock doesn't allow an optimal bitrate (this means the
bitrate error is always != 0) there might be several timing parameter
combinations having the same bitrate error. The original implementation will
allways choose the one with the highest brp. The actual sample point error
isn't taken into account.

This patch changes the algorithm to minimize the sample point error, too. Now a
brp/tseg combination is accepted as better if one of these condition are
fulfilled:
1) the bit rate error must be smaller, or
2) the bit rate error must be equal and
the sample point error must be equal or smaller

If a smaller bit rate error is found the sample point error is reset. This
ensures that we first optimize for small bit rate error and then for small
sample point errors.

bb208f144c can: fix handling of unmodifiable configuration options
As described in 'can: m_can: tag current CAN FD controllers as non-ISO'
(6cfda7fbeb) it is possible to define fixed configuration options by
setting the according bit in 'ctrlmode' and clear it in 'ctrlmode_supported'.
This leads to the incovenience that the fixed configuration bits can not be
passed by netlink even when they have the correct values (e.g. non-ISO, FD).

This patch fixes that issue and not only allows fixed set bit values to be set
again but now requires(!) to provide these fixed values at configuration time.
A valid CAN FD configuration consists of a nominal/arbitration bittiming, a
data bittiming and a control mode with CAN_CTRLMODE_FD set - which is now
enforced by a new can_validate() function. This fix additionally removed the
inconsistency that was prohibiting the support of 'CANFD-only' controller
drivers, like the RCar CAN FD.

For this reason a new helper can_set_static_ctrlmode() has been introduced to
provide a proper interface to handle static enabled CAN controller options.

6cc6426605 can: ifi: Add obscure bit swap for EFF frame IDs
In case of CAN2.0 EFF frame, the controller handles frame IDs in a
rather bizzare way. The ID is split into an extended part, IDX[28:11]
and standard part, ID[10:0]. In the TX path, the core first sends the
top 11 bits of the IDX, followed by ID and finally the rest of IDX.
In the RX path, the core stores the ID the LSbit part of IDX field,
followed by the LSbit parts of real IDX. The MSbit parts of IDX are
stored in ID field of the register.

This patch implements the necessary bit shuffling to mitigate this
obscure behavior. In case two of these controllers are connected
together, the RX and TX bit swapping nullifies itself and the issue
does not manifest. The issue only manifests when talking to another
different CAN controller.

99312c377f can: ifi: Fix clock generator configuration
The clock generation does not match reality when using the CAN IP
core outside of the FPGA design. This patch fixes the computation
of values which are programmed into the clock generator registers.

First, there are some off-by-one errors which manifest themselves
only when communicating with different controller, so those are
fixed.

Second, the bits in the clock generator registers have different
meaning depending on whether the core is in ISO CANFD mode or any
of the other modes (BOSCH CANFD or CAN2.0). Detect the ISO CANFD
mode and fix handling of this special case of clock configuration.

Finally, the CAN clock speed is in CANCLOCK register, not SYSCLOCK
register, so fix this as well.

0dfa61bba3 can: rcar: add gen[12] fallback compatibility strings
Add fallback compatibility string for R-Car Gen 1 and Gen2.

In the case of Renesas R-Car hardware we know that there are generations of
SoCs, e.g. Gen 1 and Gen 2. But beyond that its not clear what the
relationship between IP blocks might be. For example, I believe that
r8a7779 is older than r8a7778 but that doesn't imply that the latter is a
descendant of the former or vice versa.

We can, however, by examining the documentation and behaviour of the
hardware at run-time observe that the current driver implementation appears
to be compatible with the IP blocks on SoCs within a given generation.

For the above reasons and convenience when enabling new SoCs a
per-generation fallback compatibility string scheme being adopted for
drivers for Renesas SoCs.

According to SJA1000 data sheet error-warning (EI) interrupt is not
cleared by setting the controller in to reset-mode.

Then if we have the following case:

  in operating state
- A bus error condition occurs which activates EI interrupt, system is
still suspended which means EI interrupt will be not be handled nor

If the above two events occur, on resume there is no way to return the

By simply reading the IR register on start we will clear any previous
