1d1ddf67dc arm64: dma-mapping: implement dma_get_sgtable()
The default dma_common_get_sgtable() implementation relies on the CPU
address of the buffer being a regular lowmem address. This is not always
the case on arm64, since allocations from the various DMA pools may have
remapped vmalloc addresses, rendering the use of virt_to_page() invalid.

Fix this by providing our own implementation based on the fact that we
can safely derive a physical address from the DMA address in both cases.

4b3dc9679c arm64: force CONFIG_SMP=y and remove redundant #ifdefs
Nobody seems to be producing !SMP systems anymore, so this is just
becoming a source of kernel bugs, particularly if people want to use
coherent DMA with non-shared pages.

This patch forces CONFIG_SMP=y for arm64, removing a modest amount of
code in the process.

2f4b829c62 arm64: Add support for hardware updates of the access and dirty pte bits
The ARMv8.1 architecture extensions introduce support for hardware
updates of the access and dirty information in page table entries. With
TCR_EL1.HA enabled, when the CPU accesses an address with the PTE_AF bit
cleared in the page table, instead of raising an access flag fault the
CPU sets the actual page table entry bit. To ensure that kernel
modifications to the page tables do not inadvertently revert a change
introduced by hardware updates, the exclusive monitor (ldxr/stxr) is
adopted in the pte accessors.

When TCR_EL1.HD is enabled, a write access to a memory location with the
DBM (Dirty Bit Management) bit set in the corresponding pte
automatically clears the read-only bit (AP[2]). Such DBM bit maps onto
the Linux PTE_WRITE bit and to check whether a writable (DBM set) page
is dirty, the kernel tests the PTE_RDONLY bit. In order to allow
read-only and dirty pages, the kernel needs to preserve the software
dirty bit. The hardware dirty status is transferred to the software
dirty bit in ptep_set_wrprotect() (using load/store exclusive loop) and
pte_modify().

Patch 63a4aea556 ("of: clean-up unnecessary libfdt include paths")

necessary after the latest dtc upgrade. However, this one snuck in
during the same merge window. Remove it.

f871d26807 arm64: Fix show_unhandled_signal_ratelimited usage
Commit 86dca36e6b introduced ratelimited usage for
'unhandled_signal' messages.
The commit checks the ratelimit irrespective of whether
the signal is handled or not, which is wrong and leads
to false reports like the below in dmesg :

__do_user_fault: 127 callbacks suppressed

Do the ratelimit check only if the signal is unhandled.

fd28f5d439 arm64: Don't report clear pmds and puds as huge
The current pmd_huge() and pud_huge() functions simply check if the table
bit is not set and reports the entries as huge in that case. This is
counter-intuitive as a clear pmd/pud cannot also be a huge pmd/pud, and
it is inconsistent with at least arm and x86.

To prevent others from making the same mistake as me in looking at code
that calls these functions and to fix an issue with KVM on arm64 that
causes memory corruption due to incorrect page reference counting
resulting from this mistake, let's change the behavior.

- CPU ops and PSCI (Power State Coordination Interface) refactoring
following the merging of the arm64 ACPI support, together with
handling of Trusted (secure) OS instances

 - Using fixmap for permanent FDT mapping, removing the initial dtb

 - "Alternatives" (run-time code patching) refactoring and support for
immediate branch patching, GICv3 CPU interface access

 - User faults handling clean-up

 And some fixes:

 - Fix for VDSO building with broken ELF toolchains

 - Fixing another case of init_mm.pgd usage for user mappings (during
   ASID roll-over broadcasting)

 - Fix for FPSIMD reloading after CPU hotplug

Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"The rework of backlight interface selection API from Hans de Goede
stands out from the number of commits and the number of affected
places perspective. The cpufreq core fixes from Viresh Kumar are
quite significant too as far as the number of commits goes and because
they should reduce CPU online/offline overhead quite a bit in the
  majority of cases.

From the new featues point of view, the ACPICA update (to upstream
revision 20150515) adding support for new ACPI 6 material to ACPICA is
the one that matters the most as some new significant features will be
based on it going forward. Also included is an update of the ACPI
device power management core to follow ACPI 6 (which in turn reflects
the Windows' device PM implementation), a PM core extension to support
wakeup interrupts in a more generic way and support for the ACPI _CCA
  device configuration object.

The rest is mostly fixes and cleanups all over and some documentation
updates, including new DT bindings for Operating Performance Points.

There is one fix for a regression introduced in the 4.1 cycle, but it
adds quite a number of lines of code, it wasn't really ready before
Thursday and you were on vacation, so I refrained from pushing it on

  Specifics:

   - ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150515 including basic support

   - fix for a regression related to the ACPI resources management and

86dca36e6b arm64: use private ratelimit state along with show_unhandled_signals
printk_ratelimit() shares the ratelimiting state with other callers what
may lead to scenarios where at the time we want to print out debug
information we already limited, so nothing appears in the dmesg - this
makes exception-trace quite poor helper in debugging.

Additionally, we have imbalance with some messages limited with global
ratelimit state and other messages limited with their private state
defined via pr_*_ratelimited().

To address this inconsistency show_unhandled_signals_ratelimited()
macro is introduced and caller sites are converted to use it.

b9bcc91993 arm64: mm: Fix freeing of the wrong memmap entries with !SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP
The memmap freeing code in free_unused_memmap() computes the end of
each memblock by adding the memblock size onto the base. However,
if SPARSEMEM is enabled then the value (start) used for the base
may already have been rounded downwards to work out which memmap
entries to free after the previous memblock.

This may cause memmap entries that are in use to get freed.

In general, you're not likely to hit this problem unless there
are at least 2 memblocks and one of them is not aligned to a
sparsemem section boundary. Note that carve-outs can increase
the number of memblocks by splitting the regions listed in the
device tree.

This problem doesn't occur with SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP, because the
vmemmap code deals with freeing the unused regions of the memmap
instead of requiring the arch code to do it.

This patch gets the memblock base out of the memblock directly when
computing the block end address to ensure the correct value is used.

61bd93ce80 arm64: use fixmap region for permanent FDT mapping
Currently, the FDT blob needs to be in the same 512 MB region as
the kernel, so that it can be mapped into the kernel virtual memory
space very early on using a minimal set of statically allocated
translation tables.

Now that we have early fixmap support, we can relax this restriction,
by moving the permanent FDT mapping to the fixmap region instead.
This way, the FDT blob may be anywhere in memory.

This also moves the vetting of the FDT to mmu.c, since the early
init code in head.S does not handle mapping of the FDT anymore.
At the same time, fix up some comments in head.S that have gone stale.

68234df4ea arm64: kill flush_cache_all()
The documented semantics of flush_cache_all are not possible to provide
for arm64 (short of flushing the entire physical address space by VA),
and there are currently no users; KVM uses VA maintenance exclusively,
cpu_reset is never called, and the only two users outside of arch code
cannot be built for arm64.

While cpu_soft_reset and related functions (which call flush_cache_all)
were thought to be useful for kexec, their current implementations only
serve to mask bugs. For correctness kexec will need to perform
maintenance by VA anyway to account for system caches, line migration,
and other subtleties of the cache architecture. As the extent of this
cache maintenance will be kexec-specific, it should probably live in the
kexec code.

This patch removes flush_cache_all, and related unused components,
preventing further abuse.

70ffdb9393 mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in the handler
Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and
disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers.

Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect
whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly
disabled).

In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults.
With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt
counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs.
We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling
might_sleep().

Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this
is needed.

faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in
linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files.

This patch is based on a patch from Thomas Gleixner.

2cff98b99c arm64: add missing PAGE_ALIGN() to __dma_free()
__dma_alloc() does a PAGE_ALIGN() on the passed in size argument before
doing anything else. __dma_free() does not. And because it doesn't, it is
possible to leak memory should size not be an integer multiple of PAGE_SIZE.

The solution is to add a PAGE_ALIGN() to __dma_free() like is done in
__dma_alloc().

Additionally, this patch removes a redundant PAGE_ALIGN() from
__dma_alloc_coherent(), since __dma_alloc_coherent() can only be called
from __dma_alloc(), which already does a PAGE_ALIGN() before the call.

It turned out that some drivers rely on this 'feature'. Allocated buffer
might be also exposed to userspace with dma_mmap() call, so clearing it

2b68f6caea mm: expose arch_mmap_rnd when available
When an architecture fully supports randomizing the ELF load location,
a per-arch mmap_rnd() function is used to find a randomized mmap base.
In preparation for randomizing the location of ET_DYN binaries
separately from mmap, this renames and exports these functions as
arch_mmap_rnd(). Additionally introduces CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_ELF_RANDOMIZE
for describing this feature on architectures that support it
(which is a superset of ARCH_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE, since s390
already supports a separated ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLR without the
ARCH_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE logic).

needs to reflect that merely because the identity mapping, which is only used
to enable or disable the MMU, requires the extended virtual range to map the
physical memory at an equal virtual offset.

This patch relaxes that requirement, by increasing the number of translation
levels for the identity mapping only, and only when actually needed, i.e.,
when system RAM's offset is found to be out of reach at runtime.

b63dbef93f arm64: fixmap: check idx is definitely valid
Fixmap indices are in the interval (FIX_HOLE, __end_of_fixed_addresses),
but in __set_fixmap we only check idx <= __end_of_fixed_addresses, and
therefore indices <= FIX_HOLE are erroneously accepted. If called with
such an idx, __set_fixmap may corrupt page tables outside of the fixmap

This patch ensures that we validate the idx against both endpoints of

No module user of those is in mainline kernel and we explicitly do not want

Outside of eBPF scope, I believe also other set_memory_* functions should

61f77eda9b mm/hugetlb: reduce arch dependent code around follow_huge_*
Currently we have many duplicates in definitions around
follow_huge_addr(), follow_huge_pmd(), and follow_huge_pud(), so this
patch tries to remove the m. The basic idea is to put the default
implementation for these functions in mm/hugetlb.c as weak symbols
(regardless of CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_GENERAL_HUGETL B), and to implement
arch-specific code only when the arch needs it.

For follow_huge_addr(), only powerpc and ia64 have their own
implementation, and in all other architectures this function just returns
ERR_PTR(-EINVAL). So this patch sets returning ERR_PTR(-EINVAL) as
default.

As for follow_huge_(pmd|pud)(), if (pmd|pud)_huge() is implemented to
always return 0 in your architecture (like in ia64 or sparc,) it's never
called (the callsite is optimized away) no matter how implemented it is.
So in such architectures, we don't need arch-specific implementation.

In some architecture (like mips, s390 and tile,) their current
arch-specific follow_huge_(pmd|pud)() are effectively identical with the
common code, so this patch lets these architecture use the common code.

One exception is metag, where pmd_huge() could return non-zero but it
expects follow_huge_pmd() to always return NULL. This means that we need
arch-specific implementation which returns NULL. This behavior looks
strange to me (because non-zero pmd_huge() implies that the architecture
supports PMD-based hugepage, so follow_huge_pmd() can/should return some
relevant value,) but that's beyond this cleanup patch, so let's keep it.

Justification of non-trivial changes:
- in s390, follow_huge_pmd() checks !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE at first, and this
patch removes the check. This is OK because we can assume MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE
is true when follow_huge_pmd() can be called (note that pmd_huge() has
the same check and always returns 0 for !MACHINE_HAS_HPAGE.)
- in s390 and mips, we use HPAGE_MASK instead of PMD_MASK as done in common
code. This patch forces these archs use PMD_MASK, but it's OK because
they are identical in both archs.
  In s390, both of HPAGE_SHIFT and PMD_SHIFT are 20.
  In mips, HPAGE_SHIFT is defined as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT - 3) and
  PMD_SHIFT is define as (PAGE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT + PTE_ORDER - 3), but
PTE_ORDER is always 0, so these are identical.

a1c76574f3 arm64: mm: use *_sect to check for section maps
The {pgd,pud,pmd}_bad family of macros have slightly fuzzy
cross-architecture semantics, and seem to imply a populated entry that
is not a next-level table, rather than a particular type of entry (e.g.
a section map).

In arm64 code, for those cases where we care about whether an entry is a
section mapping, we can instead use the {pud,pmd}_sect macros to
explicitly check for this case. This helps to document precisely what we
care about, making the code easier to read, and allows for future
relaxation of the *_bad macros to check for other "bad" entries.

To that end this patch updates the table dumping and initial table setup
to check for section mappings with {pud,pmd}_sect, and adds/restores
BUG_ON(*_bad((*p)) checks after we've handled the *_sect and *_none
cases so as to catch remaining "bad" cases.

In the fault handling code, show_pte is left with *_bad checks as it
only cares about whether it can walk the next level table, and this path
is used for both kernel and userspace fault handling. The former case
will be followed by a die() where we'll report the address that
triggered the fault, which can be useful context for debugging.

a3bba370c2 arm64: drop unnecessary cache+tlb maintenance
In paging_init, we call flush_cache_all, but this is backed by Set/Way
operations which may not achieve anything in the presence of cache line
migration and/or system caches. If the caches are already in an
inconsistent state at this point, there is nothing we can do (short of
flushing the entire physical address space by VA) to empty architected
and system caches. As such, flush_cache_all only serves to mask other
potential bugs. Hence, this patch removes the boot-time call to
flush_cache_all.

Immediately after the cache maintenance we flush the TLBs, but this is
also unnecessary. Before enabling the MMU, the TLBs are invalidated, and
thus are initially clean. When changing the contents of active tables
(e.g. in fixup_executable() for DEBUG_RODATA) we perform the required
TLB maintenance following the update, and therefore no additional
maintenance is required to ensure the new table entries are in effect.
Since activating the MMU we will not have modified system register
fields permitted to be cached in a TLB, and therefore do not need
maintenance for any cached system register fields. Hence, the TLB flush
is unnecessary.

Shortly after the unnecessary TLB flush, we update TTBR0 to point to an
empty zero page rather than the idmap, and flush the TLBs. This
maintenance is necessary to remove the global idmap entries from the
TLBs (as they would conflict with userspace mappings), and is retained.

af3cfdbf56 arm64: kernel: remove ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND config option
ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND config option was introduced to make code providing
context save/restore selectable only on platforms requiring power
management capabilities.

Currently ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND depends on the PM_SLEEP config option which
in turn is set by the SUSPEND config option.

The introduction of CPU_IDLE for arm64 requires that code configured
by ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND (context save/restore) should be compiled in
in order to enable the CPU idle driver to rely on CPU operations
carrying out context save/restore.

The ARM64_CPUIDLE config option (ARM64 generic idle driver) is therefore
forced to select ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND, even if there may be (ie PM_SLEEP)
failed dependencies, which is not a clean way of handling the kernel
configuration option.

For these reasons, this patch removes the ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND config option
and makes the context save/restore dependent on CPU_PM, which is selected
whenever either SUSPEND or CPU_IDLE are configured, cleaning up dependencies
in the process.

This way, code previously configured through ARM64_CPU_SUSPEND is
compiled in whenever a power management subsystem requires it to be
present in the kernel (SUSPEND || CPU_IDLE), which is the behaviour
expected on ARM64 kernels.

The cpu_suspend and cpu_init_idle CPU operations are added only if
CPU_IDLE is selected, since they are CPU_IDLE specific methods and
should be grouped and defined accordingly.

PSCI CPU operations are updated to reflect the introduced changes.

764011ca82 arm64: mm: dump: add missing includes
The arm64 dump code is currently relying on some definitions which are
pulled in via transitive dependencies. It seems we have implicit
dependencies on the following definitions:

* MODULES_VADDR         (asm/memory.h)
* MODULES_END           (asm/memory.h)
* PAGE_OFFSET           (asm/memory.h)

* ENOMEM                (linux/errno.h)
* device_initcall       (linux/init.h)

This patch ensures we explicitly include the relevant headers for the
above items, fixing the observed build issue and hopefully preventing
future issues as headers are refactored.

aa03c428e6 arm64: Fix overlapping VA allocations
PCI IO space was intended to be 16MiB, at 32MiB below MODULES_VADDR, but
commit d1e6dc91b5 ("arm64: Add architectural support for PCI")
extended this to cover the full 32MiB. The final 8KiB of this 32MiB is
also allocated for the fixmap, allowing for potential clashes between
the two.

This change was masked by assumptions in mem_init and the page table
dumping code, which assumed the I/O space to be 16MiB long through
seaparte hard-coded definitions.

This patch changes the definition of the PCI I/O space allocation to
live in asm/memory.h, along with the other VA space allocations. As the
fixmap allocation depends on the number of fixmap entries, this is moved
below the PCI I/O space allocation. Both the fixmap and PCI I/O space
are guarded with 2MB of padding. Sites assuming the I/O space was 16MiB
are moved over use new PCI_IO_{START,END} definitions, which will keep
in sync with the size of the IO space (now restored to 16MiB).

As a useful side effect, the use of the new PCI_IO_{START,END}
definitions prevents a build issue in the dumping code due to a (now
redundant) missing include of io.h for PCI_IOBASE.

da141706ae arm64: add better page protections to arm64
Add page protections for arm64 similar to those in arm.
This is for security reasons to prevent certain classes
of exploits. The current method:

- Map all memory as either RWX or RW. We round to the nearest
section to avoid creating page tables before everything is mapped
- Once everything is mapped, if either end of the RWX section should
not be X, we split the PMD and remap as necessary
- When initmem is to be freed, we change the permissions back to
RW (using stop machine if necessary to flush the TLB)
- If CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA is set, the read only sections are set
  read only.

6083fe74b7 arm64: respect mem= for EFI
When booting with EFI, we acquire the EFI memory map after parsing the
early params. This unfortuantely renders the option useless as we call
memblock_enforce_memory_limit (which uses memblock_remove_range behind
the scenes) before we've added any memblocks. We end up removing
nothing, then adding all of memory later when efi_init calls
reserve_regions.

Instead, we can log the limit and apply this later when we do the rest
of the memblock work in memblock_init, which should work regardless of
the presence of EFI. At the same time we may as well move the early
parameter into arm64's mm/init.c, close to arm64_memblock_init.

Any memory which must be mapped (e.g. for use by EFI runtime services)
must be mapped explicitly reather than relying on the linear mapping,
which may be truncated as a result of a mem= option passed on the kernel
command line.

This patch partially reverts commit 421520ba98
(only the arm64 part). There is no guarantee that the boot-loader places other
images like dtb in a different page than initrd start/end, especially when the
kernel is built with 64KB pages. When this happens, such pages must not be
freed. The free_reserved_area() already takes care of rounding up "start" and
rounding down "end" to avoid freeing partially used pages.

26a945caf3 arm64: remove broken cachepolicy code
The cachepolicy kernel parameter was intended to aid in the debugging of
coherency issues, but it is fundamentally broken for several reasons:

 * On SMP platforms, only the boot CPU's tcr_el1 is altered. Secondary
CPUs may therefore use differ w.r.t. the attributes they apply to
MT_NORMAL memory, resulting in a loss of coherency.

 * The cache maintenance using flush_dcache_all (based on Set/Way
operations) is not guaranteed to empty a given CPU's cache hierarchy
while said CPU has caches enabled, it cannot empty the caches of
other coherent PEs, nor is it guaranteed to flush data to the PoC
   even when caches are disabled.

 * The TLBs are not invalidated around the modification of MAIR_EL1 and
TCR_EL1, as required by the architecture (as both are permitted to be
cached in a TLB). This may result in CPUs using attributes other than
those expected for some memory accesses, resulting in a loss of
   coherency.

 * Exclusive accesses are not architecturally guaranteed to function as
expected on memory marked as Write-Through or Non-Cacheable. Thus
changing the attributes of MT_NORMAL away from the (architecurally
safe) defaults may cause uses of these instructions (e.g. atomics) to
   behave erratically.

Given this, the cachepolicy code cannot be used for debugging purposes
as it alone is likely to cause coherency issues. This patch removes the
broken cachepolicy code.

fb59d007a0 arm64: mm: dump: don't skip final region
If the final page table entry we walk is a valid mapping, the page table
dumping code will not log the region this entry is part of, as the final
note_page call in ptdump_show will trigger an early return. Luckily this
isn't seen on contemporary systems as they typically don't have enough
RAM to extend the linear mapping right to the end of the address space.

In note_page, we log a region when we reach its end (i.e. we hit an
entry immediately afterwards which has different prot bits or is
invalid). The final entry has no subsequent entry, so we will not log
this immediately. We try to cater for this with a subsequent call to
note_page in ptdump_show, but this returns early as 0 < LOWEST_ADDR, and
hence we will skip a valid mapping if it spans to the final entry we
note.

Unlike 32-bit ARM, the pgd with the kernel mapping is never shared with
user mappings, so we do not need the check to ensure we don't log user
page tables. Due to the way addr is constructed in the walk_* functions,
it can never be less than LOWEST_ADDR when walking the page tables, so
it is not necessary to avoid dereferencing invalid table addresses. The
existing checks for st->current_prot and st->marker[1].start_address are
sufficient to ensure we will not print and/or dereference garbage when
trying to log information.

This patch removes the unnecessary check against LOWEST_ADDR, ensuring
we log all regions in the kernel page table, including those which span
right to the end of the address space.

35545f0ccb arm64: mm: dump: fix shift warning
When building with 48-bit VAs, it's possible to get the following
warning when building the arm64 page table dumping code:

arch/arm64/mm/dump.c:266:2: warning: right shift count >= width of type
  pgd_t *pgd = pgd_offset(mm, 0);
  ^

As pgd_offset is a macro and the second argument is not cast to any
particular type, the zero will be given integer type by the compiler.
As pgd_offset passes the pargument to pgd_index, we then try to shift
the 32-bit integer by at least 39 bits (for 4k pages).

Elsewhere the pgd_offset is passed a second argument of unsigned long
type, so let's do the same here by passing '0UL' rather than '0'.

15670ef1ea arm64: pgalloc: consistently use PGALLOC_GFP
We currently allocate different levels of page tables with a variety of
differing flags, and the PGALLOC_GFP flags, intended for use when
allocating any level of page table, are only used for ptes in
pte_alloc_one. On x86, PGALLOC_GFP is used for all page table
allocations.

Currently the major differences are:

* __GFP_NOTRACK -- Needed to ensure page tables are always accessible in
the presence of kmemcheck to prevent recursive faults. Currently
kmemcheck cannot be selected for arm64.

* __GFP_REPEAT -- Causes the allocator to try to reclaim pages and retry
  upon a failure to allocate.

* __GFP_ZERO -- Sometimes passed explicitly, sometimes zalloc variants
  are used.

While we've no encountered issues so far, it would be preferable to be
consistent. This patch ensures all levels of table are allocated in the
same manner, with PGALLOC_GFP.

so comment and hack introduced in mmap_rnd() as part of commit
1d18c47c73 ('arm64: MMU fault handling and page table management')
are incorrects.

Commit 1d18c47c73 seems to use the same hack introduced by
commit a5adc91a4b ('powerpc: Ensure random space between stack

But both architectures were cleaned up as part of commit
fa8cbaaf5a ('powerpc+sparc64/mm: Remove hack in mmap randomize

So the present patch removes the comment and the hack around
get_random_int() on AArch64's mmap_rnd().

Commit 6ecba8eb51 (arm64: Use bus notifiers to set per-device coherent

0ceac9e094 efi/arm64: Fix fdt-related memory reservation
Commit 86c8b27a01:
"arm64: ignore DT memreserve entries when booting in UEFI mode

prevents early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() from being called for
arm64 kernels booting via UEFI. This was done because the kernel
will use the UEFI memory map to determine reserved memory regions.
That approach has problems in that early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem()
also reserves the FDT itself and any node-specific reserved memory.
By chance of some kernel configs, the FDT may be overwritten before
it can be unflattened and the kernel will fail to boot. More subtle
problems will result if the FDT has node specific reserved memory
which is not really reserved.

This patch has the UEFI stub remove the memory reserve map entries
from the FDT as it does with the memory nodes. This allows
early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() to be called unconditionally
so that the other needed reservations are made.

Here the compiler generates memory accesses after the cache is disabled,
loading stale values for the spilled value and global variable. As we cannot
control when the compiler will access memory we must rewrite the
functions in assembly to stash values we need in registers prior to
disabling the cache, avoiding the use of memory.

08375198b0 arm64: Determine the vmalloc/vmemmap space at build time based on VA_BITS
Rather than guessing what the maximum vmmemap space should be, this
patch allows the calculation based on the VA_BITS and sizeof(struct
page). The vmalloc space extends to the beginning of the vmemmap space.

Since the virtual kernel memory layout now depends on the build
configuration, this patch removes the detailed description in
Documentation/arm64/memory.txt in favour of information printed during

c79b954bf6 arm64: mm: Implement 4 levels of translation tables
This patch implements 4 levels of translation tables since 3 levels
of page tables with 4KB pages cannot support 40-bit physical address
space described in [1] due to the following issue.

It is a restriction that kernel logical memory map with 4KB + 3 levels
(0xffffffc000000000-0xffffffffffffffff) cannot cover RAM region from
544GB to 1024GB in [1]. Specifically, ARM64 kernel fails to create
mapping for this region in map_mem function since __phys_to_virt for
this region reaches to address overflow.

If SoC design follows the document, [1], over 32GB RAM would be placed
from 544GB. Even 64GB system is supposed to use the region from 544GB
to 576GB for only 32GB RAM. Naturally, it would reach to enable 4 levels
of page tables to avoid hacking __virt_to_phys and __phys_to_virt.

However, it is recommended 4 levels of page table should be only enabled
if memory map is too sparse or there is about 512GB RAM.

d50314a6b0 arm64: Create non-empty ZONE_DMA when DRAM starts above 4GB
ZONE_DMA is created to allow 32-bit only devices to access memory in the
absence of an IOMMU. On systems where the memory starts above 4GB, it is
expected that some devices have a DMA offset hardwired to be able to
access the bottom of the memory. Linux currently supports DT bindings
for the DMA offsets but they are not (easily) available early during
boot.

This patch tries to guess a DMA offset and assumes that ZONE_DMA
corresponds to the 32-bit mask above the start of DRAM.

bd00cd5f8c arm64: place initial page tables above the kernel
Currently we place swapper_pg_dir and idmap_pg_dir below the kernel
image, between PHYS_OFFSET and (PHYS_OFFSET + TEXT_OFFSET). However,
bootloaders may use portions of this memory below the kernel and we do
not parse the memory reservation list until after the MMU has been
enabled. As such we may clobber some memory a bootloader wishes to have
preserved.

To enable the use of all of this memory by bootloaders (when the
required memory reservations are communicated to the kernel) it is
necessary to move our initial page tables elsewhere. As we currently
have an effectively unbound requirement for memory at the end of the
kernel image for .bss, we can place the page tables here.

This patch moves the initial page table to the end of the kernel image,
after the BSS. As they do not consist of any initialised data they will
be stripped from the kernel Image as with the BSS. The BSS clearing
routine is updated to stop at __bss_stop rather than _end so as to not
clobber the page tables, and memory reservations made redundant by the
new organisation are removed.

c177c81e09 hugetlb: restrict hugepage_migration_support() to x86_64
Currently hugepage migration is available for all archs which support
pmd-level hugepage, but testing is done only for x86_64 and there're
bugs for other archs. So to avoid breaking such archs, this patch
limits the availability strictly to x86_64 until developers of other
archs get interested in enabling this feature.

Simply disabling hugepage migration on non-x86_64 archs is not enough to
fix the reported problem where sys_move_pages() hits the BUG_ON() in
follow_page(FOLL_GET), so let's fix this by checking if hugepage
migration is supported in vma_migratable().

In arch/arm/kvm/mmu.c:unmap_range(), we end up doing an extra put_page()
on the stage2 pgd which leads to the BUG in put_page_testzero(). This
happens because a pud_huge() test in unmap_range() returns true when it
should always be false with 2-level pages tables used by 64k pages.
This patch removes support for huge puds if 2-level pagetables are
being used.

fa48e6f780 arm64: mm: Optimise tlb flush logic where we have >4K granule
The tlb maintainence functions: __cpu_flush_user_tlb_range and
__cpu_flush_kern_tlb_range do not take into consideration the page
granule when looping through the address range, and repeatedly flush
tlb entries for the same page when operating with 64K pages.

This patch re-works the logic s.t. we instead advance the loop by
 1 << (PAGE_SHIFT - 12), so avoid repeating ourselves.

Also the routines have been converted from assembler to static inline
functions to aid with legibility and potential compiler optimisations.

The isb() has been removed from flush_tlb_kernel_range(.) as it is
only needed when changing the execute permission of a mapping. If one
needs to set an area of the kernel as execute/non-execute an isb()
must be inserted after the call to flush_tlb_kernel_range.

We have the capability to map 1GB level 1 blocks when using a 4K

This patch adjusts the create_mapping logic s.t. when mapping physical

a501e32430 arm64: Clean up the default pgprot setting
The primary aim of this patchset is to remove the pgprot_default and
prot_sect_default global variables and rely strictly on predefined
values. The original goal was to be able to run SMP kernels on UP
hardware by not setting the Shareability bit. However, it is unlikely to
see UP ARMv8 hardware and even if we do, the Shareability bit is no
longer assumed to disable cacheable accesses.

A side effect is that the device mappings now have the Shareability
attribute set. The hardware, however, should ignore it since Device
accesses are always Outer Shareable.

Following the removal of the two global variables, there is some PROT_*
macro reshuffling and cleanup, including the __PAGE_* macros (replaced
by PAGE_*).

bc07c2c6e9 arm64: Introduce execute-only page access permissions
The ARMv8 architecture allows execute-only user permissions by clearing
the PTE_UXN and PTE_USER bits. The kernel, however, can still access
such page, so execute-only page permission does not protect against
read(2)/write(2) etc. accesses. Systems requiring such protection must
implement/enable features like SECCOMP.

This patch changes the arm64 __P100 and __S100 protection_map[] macros
to the new __PAGE_EXECONLY attributes. A side effect is that
pte_valid_user() no longer triggers for __PAGE_EXECONLY since PTE_USER
isn't set. To work around this, the check is done on the PTE_NG bit via
the pte_valid_ng() macro. VM_READ is also checked now for page faults.

0bf757c73d arm64: initialize pgprot info earlier in boot
Presently, paging_init() calls init_mem_pgprot() to initialize pgprot
values used by macros such as PAGE_KERNEL, PAGE_KERNEL_EXEC, etc.

The new fixmap and early_ioremap support also needs to use these macros
before paging_init() is called. This patch moves the init_mem_pgprot()
call out of paging_init() and into setup_arch() so that pgprot_default
gets initialized in time for fixmap and early_ioremap.

The current TCR register setting in arch/arm64/mm/proc.S assumes that

b9f2b21a32 Devicetree changes for v3.15
Updates to devicetree core code. This branch contains the following notable changes:
 * Add reserved memory binding
 * Make struct device_node a kobject and remove legacy /proc/device-tree
 * ePAPR conformance fixes
 * Update in-kernel DTC copy to version v1.4.0
 * Preparation changes for dynamic device tree overlays
 * minor bug fixes and documentation changes

The most significant change in this branch is the conversion of struct
device_node to be a kobject that is exposed via sysfs and removal of the
old /proc/device-tree code. This simplifies the device tree handling
code and tightens up the lifecycle on device tree nodes.

6e8d7968e9 arm64: Implement custom mmap functions for dma mapping
The current dma_ops do not specify an mmap function so maping
falls back to the default implementation. There are at least
two issues with using the default implementation:

1) The pgprot is always pgprot_noncached (strongly ordered)
memory even with coherent operations
2) dma_common_mmap calls virt_to_page on the remapped non-coherent
address which leads to invalid memory being mapped.

Fix both these issue by implementing a custom mmap function which
correctly accounts for remapped addresses and sets vm_pg_prot
appropriately.

bff705950e arm64: remove unnecessary cache flush at boot
Currently we flush the entire dcache at boot within __cpu_setup, but
this is unnecessary as the booting protocol demands that the dcache is
invalid and off upon entering the kernel. The presence of the cache
flush only serves to hide bugs in bootloaders, and is not safe in the
presence of SMP.

In an SMP boot scenario the CPUs enter coherency outside of the kernel,
and the primary CPU enables its caches before bringing up secondary
CPUs. Therefore if any secondary CPU has an entry in its cache (in
violation of the boot protocol), the primary CPU might snoop it even if
the secondary CPU's cache is disabled. The boot-time cache flush only
serves to hide a firmware bug, and slows down a cpu boot unnecessarily.

This patch removes the unnecessary boot-time cache flush.

fc18047c73 arm64: use correct register width when retrieving ASID
The ASID is represented as an unsigned int in mm_context_t and we
currently use the mmid assembler macro to access this element of the
struct. This should be accessed with a register of 32-bit width. If
the incorrect register width is used the ASID will be returned in
bits[32:63] of the register when running under big-endian.

Fix a use of the mmid macro in tlb.S to use a 32-bit access.

759496ba64 arch: mm: pass userspace fault flag to generic fault handler
Unlike global OOM handling, memory cgroup code will invoke the OOM killer
in any OOM situation because it has no way of telling faults occuring in
kernel context - which could be handled more gracefully - from
user-triggered faults.

Pass a flag that identifies faults originating in user space from the
architecture-specific fault handlers to generic code so that memcg OOM
handling can be improved.

83467efbdb mm: migrate: check movability of hugepage in unmap_and_move_huge_page()
Currently hugepage migration works well only for pmd-based hugepages
(mainly due to lack of testing,) so we had better not enable migration of
other levels of hugepages until we are ready for it.

Some users of hugepage migration (mbind, move_pages, and migrate_pages) do
page table walk and check pud/pmd_huge() there, so they are safe. But the
other users (softoffline and memory hotremove) don't do this, so without
this patch they can try to migrate unexpected types of hugepages.

To prevent this, we introduce hugepage_migration_support() as an
architecture dependent check of whether hugepage are implemented on a pmd
basis or not. And on some architecture multiple sizes of hugepages are
available, so hugepage_migration_support() also checks hugepage size.

d50240a5f6 arm64: mm: permit use of tagged pointers at EL0
TCR.TBI0 can be used to cause hardware address translation to ignore the
top byte of userspace virtual addresses. Whilst not especially useful in
standard C programs, this can be used by JITs to `tag' pointers with
various pieces of metadata.

This patch enables this bit for AArch64 Linux, and adds a new file to
Documentation/arm64/ which describes some potential caveats when using
tagged virtual addresses.

e25208f77c arm64: Fix mapping of memory banks not ending on a PMD_SIZE boundary
The map_mem() function limits the current memblock limit to PGDIR_SIZE
(the initial swapper_pg_dir mapping) to avoid create_mapping()
allocating memory from unmapped areas. However, if the first block is
within PGDIR_SIZE and not ending on a PMD_SIZE boundary, when 4K page
configuration is enabled, create_mapping() will try to allocate a pte
page. Such page may be returned by memblock_alloc() from the end of such
bank (or any subsequent bank within PGDIR_SIZE) which is not mapped yet.

The patch limits the current memblock limit to the aligned end of the
first bank and gradually increases it as more memory is mapped. It also
ensures that the start of the first bank is aligned to PMD_SIZE to avoid
pte page allocation for this mapping.

374d5c9964 of: Specify initrd location using 64-bit
On some PAE architectures, the entire range of physical memory could reside
outside the 32-bit limit. These systems need the ability to specify the
initrd location using 64-bit numbers.

This patch globally modifies the early_init_dt_setup_initrd_arch() function to
use 64-bit numbers instead of the current unsigned long.

There has been quite a bit of debate about whether to use u64 or phys_addr_t.
It was concluded to stick to u64 to be consistent with rest of the device
tree code. As summarized by Geert, "The address to load the initrd is decided
by the bootloader/user and set at that point later in time. The dtb should not
be tied to the kernel you are booting"

db6f41063c arm64: mm: don't treat user cache maintenance faults as writes
On arm64, cache maintenance faults appear as data aborts with the CM

084bd29810 ARM64: mm: HugeTLB support.
Add huge page support to ARM64, different huge page sizes are
supported depending on the size of normal pages:

PAGE_SIZE is 4KB:
2MB - (pmds) these can be allocated at any time.
1024MB - (puds) usually allocated on bootup with the command line
         with something like: hugepagesz=1G hugepages=6

PAGE_SIZE is 64KB:
512MB - (pmds) usually allocated on bootup via command line.

f6bc87c39d ARM64: mm: Restore memblock limit when map_mem finished.
In paging_init the memblock limit is set to restrict any addresses
returned by early_alloc to fit within the initial direct kernel
mapping in swapper_pg_dir. This allows map_mem to allocate puds,
pmds and ptes from the initial direct kernel mapping.

The limit stays low after paging_init() though, meaning any
bootmem allocations will be from a restricted subset of memory.
Gigabyte huge pages, for instance, are normally allocated from
bootmem as their order (18) is too large for the default buddy
allocator (MAX_ORDER = 11).

This patch restores the memblock limit when map_mem has finished,
allowing gigabyte huge pages (and other objects) to be allocated
from all of bootmem.

9c413e25d9 arm64: debug: clear mdscr_el1 instead of taking the OS lock
During boot, we take the debug OS lock before interrupts are enabled.
This is required to prevent clearing of PSTATE.D on the interrupt entry
path, which could result in spurious debug exceptions before we've got
round to resetting things like the hardware breakpoints registers to a
sane state.

A problem with this approach is that taking the OS lock prevents an
external JTAG debugger from debugging the system, which is especially
irritating during boot, where JTAG debugging can be most useful.

This patch clears mdscr_el1 rather than taking the lock, clearing the
MDE and KDE bits and preventing self-hosted hardware debug exceptions
from occurring.

0aad818b2d sparse-vmemmap: specify vmemmap population range in bytes
The sparse code, when asking the architecture to populate the vmemmap,
specifies the section range as a starting page and a number of pages.

This is an awkward interface, because none of the arch-specific code
actually thinks of the range in terms of 'struct page' units and always
translates it to bytes first.

In addition, later patches mix huge page and regular page backing for
the vmemmap. For this, they need to call vmemmap_populate_basepages()
on sub-section ranges with PAGE_SIZE and PMD_SIZE in mind. But these
are not necessarily multiples of the 'struct page' size and so this unit
is too coarse.

Just translate the section range into bytes once in the generic sparse
code, then pass byte ranges down the stack.

show_pte makes use of the *_none_or_clear_bad style functions. If a

As show_pte appears to be called from either the user or kernel

2475ff9d2c arm64: Add simple earlyprintk support
This patch adds support for "earlyprintk=" parameter on the kernel
command line. The format is:

  earlyprintk=<name>[,<addr>][,<options>]

where <name> is the name of the (UART) device, e.g. "pl011", <addr> is
the I/O address. The <options> aren't currently used.

The mapping of the earlyprintk device is done very early during kernel
boot and there are restrictions on which functions it can call. A
special early_io_map() function is added which creates the mapping from
the pre-defined EARLY_IOBASE to the device I/O address passed via the
kernel parameter. The pgd entry corresponding to EARLY_IOBASE is
pre-populated in head.S during kernel boot.

Only PL011 is currently supported and it is assumed that the interface
is already initialised by the boot loader before the kernel is started.

58d0ba578b arm64: TLB maintenance functionality
This patch adds the TLB maintenance functions. There is no distinction
made between the I and D TLBs. TLB maintenance operations are
automatically broadcast between CPUs in hardware. The inner-shareable
operations are always present, even on UP systems.

NOTE: Large part of this patch to be dropped once Peter Z's generic
mmu_gather patches are merged.

f1a0c4aa09 arm64: Cache maintenance routines
The patch adds functionality required for cache maintenance. The AArch64
architecture mandates non-aliasing VIPT or PIPT D-cache and VIPT (may
have aliases) or ASID-tagged VIVT I-cache. Cache maintenance operations
are automatically broadcast in hardware between CPUs.
