The sys/types.h header looks more sensible, from its name we can gather
it should be there because of some needed typedef, and it is much
smaller than unistd.h, so use it and fix up the fallout in places where
it was being used for something else entirely but being obtained by
sheer luck, indirectly.

That was done just to have users of writen() and readn(), that before
had their prototypes in util/util.h to get it without having to add an
include for internal/lib.h, but the right way is to add it and by now
all places already do it.
Fix a fallout were readlink() was used but unistd.h was being obtained
by luck thru util.h -> internal/lib.h, now to check why unistd.h is
being included there...

As this isn't used at all in mmap.h but in evlist.h, so to cut down the
header dependency tree, move it to where it is used.
Also add mmap.h to the places using it but previously getting it
indirectly via evlist.h.
Add missing pthread.h to evlist.h, as it has a pthread_t struct member
and was getting the header via mmap.h.
Noticed while processing a Jiri's libperf batch touching mmap.h, where
almost everything gets rebuilt because evlist.h is so popular, so cut
down't this rebuild the world party.

APIs for printing various trace event information were redesigned to be
more simple. However, the main libtraceevent man page was not updated
with those changes. The documentation is updated to describe the new

When testing the output of the old trace-cmd compared to the one that
uses the updated tep_print_event() logic, it was different in that the
time stamp precision in the old format would round up to the nearest
precision, where as the new logic truncates. Bring back the old method
of rounding up.

Remove the duplication code in run_test() of dirty_log_test because
after some reordering of functions now we can directly use the outcome
of vm_create().
Meanwhile, with the new VM_MODE_PXXV48_4K, we can safely revert
b442324b58 too where we stick the x86_64 PA width to 39 bits for
dirty_log_test.

The naming VM_MODE_P52V48_4K is explicit but unclear when used on
x86_64 machines, because x86_64 machines are having various physical
address width rather than some static values. Here's some examples:
- Intel Xeon E3-1220: 36 bits
- Intel Core i7-8650: 39 bits
- AMD EPYC 7251: 48 bits
All of them are using 48 bits linear address width but with totally
different physical address width (and most of the old machines should
be less than 52 bits).
Let's create a new guest mode called VM_MODE_PXXV48_4K for current
x86_64 tests and make it as the default to replace the old naming of
VM_MODE_P52V48_4K because it shows more clearly that the PA width is
not really a constant. Meanwhile we also stop assuming all the x86
machines are having 52 bits PA width but instead we fetch the real
vm->pa_bits from CPUID 0x80000008 during runtime.
We currently make this exclusively used by x86_64 but no other arch.
As a slight touch up, moving DEBUG macro from dirty_log_test.c to
kvm_util.h so lib can use it too.

Since we've just removed the dependency of vm type in previous patch,
now we can create the vm much earlier. Note that to move it earlier
we used an approximation of number of extra pages but it should be
fine.
This prepares for the follow up patches to finally remove the
duplication of guest mode parsings.

Rather than passing the vm type from the top level to the end of vm
creation, let's simply keep that as an internal of kvm_vm struct and
decide the type in _vm_create(). Several reasons for doing this:
- The vm type is only decided by physical address width and currently
only used in aarch64, so we've got enough information as long as
we're passing vm_guest_mode into _vm_create(),
- This removes a loop dependency between the vm->type and creation of
vms. That's why now we need to parse vm_guest_mode twice sometimes,
once in run_test() and then again in _vm_create(). The follow up
patches will move on to clean up that as well so we can have a
single place to decide guest machine types and so.
Note that this patch will slightly change the behavior of aarch64
tests in that previously most vm_create() callers will directly pass
in type==0 into _vm_create() but now the type will depend on
vm_guest_mode, however it shouldn't affect any user because all
vm_create() users of aarch64 will be using VM_MODE_DEFAULT guest
mode (which is VM_MODE_P40V48_4K) so at last type will still be zero.

Now that the default perf_events paranoid level is set to 2, a regular
user cannot monitor kernel level activity anymore. As such, with the
following cmdline:
$ perf record -e cycles date
The perf tool first tries cycles:uk but then falls back to cycles:u as
can be seen in the perf report --header-only output:
cmdline : /export/hda3/tmp/perf.tip record -e cycles ls
event : name = cycles:u, , id = { 436186, ... }
This is okay as long as there is way to learn the priv level was changed
internally by the tool.
But consider a similar example:
$ perf record -b -e cycles date
Error:
You may not have permission to collect stats.
Consider tweaking /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid,
which controls use of the performance events system by
unprivileged users (without CAP_SYS_ADMIN).
...
Why is that treated differently given that the branch sampling inherits the
priv level of the first event in this case, i.e., cycles:u? It turns out
that the branch sampling code is more picky and also checks exclude_hv.
In the fallback path, perf record is setting exclude_kernel = 1, but it
does not change exclude_hv. This does not seem to match the restriction
imposed by paranoid = 2.
This patch fixes the problem by forcing exclude_hv = 1 in the fallback
for paranoid=2. With this in place:
$ perf record -b -e cycles date
cmdline : /export/hda3/tmp/perf.tip record -b -e cycles ls
event : name = cycles:u, , id = { 436847, ... }
And the command succeeds as expected.
V2 fix a white space.
Committer testing:
After aplying the patch we get:
[acme@quaco ~]$ perf record -b -e cycles date
WARNING: Kernel address maps (/proc/{kallsyms,modules}) are restricted,
check /proc/sys/kernel/kptr_restrict and /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid.

Committer notes:
Fix 'perf tests topology' case, where we use that TEST_ASSERT_VAL(...,
session), i.e. we need to pass zero in case of failure, which was the
case before when NULL was returned by perf_session__new() for failure,
but now we need to negate the result of IS_ERR(session) to respect that
TEST_ASSERT_VAL) expectation of zero meaning failure.

Since add_probe_trace_event() can reuse tf->tevs[i] after calling
clear_probe_trace_event(), this can make perf-probe crash if the 1st
attempt of probe event finding fails to find an event argument, and the
2nd attempt fails to find probe point.
E.g.
$ perf probe -D "task_pid_nr tsk"
Failed to find 'tsk' in this function.

Fix to skip making a same probe address on given line.
Since a DWARF line info contains several entries for one line with
different column, perf probe will make a different probe on same address
if user specifies a probe point by "function:line" or "file:line".
e.g.
$ perf probe -D kernel_read:8
p:probe/kernel_read_L8 kernel_read+39
p:probe/kernel_read_L8_1 kernel_read+39
This skips such duplicated probe addresses.

For now just the translation of 55 and 56 to the respecting strings are
done, more work needed to allow for filters to be used using strings.

Being able to pass something like:
# perf record -e syscalls:sys_enter_prctl --filter="option=*TAGGED_ADDR*"
Should be easy enough, first using tracepoint filters, then via the

[ Add missing pmu.h header, needed because this patch uses pmu_have_event() ]
Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
'perf kvm record' uses 'cycles'(if the user did not specify any event)
as the default event to profile the guest.
This will not provide any proper samples from the guest incase of
powerpc architecture, since in powerpc the PMUs are controlled by the
guest rather than the host.
Patch adds a function to pick an arch specific event for 'perf kvm
record', instead of selecting 'cycles' as a default event for all
architectures.
For powerpc this function checks for any user specified event, and if
there isn't any it returns invalid instead of proceeding with 'cycles'
event.

Observe a segmentation fault when 'perf stat' is asked to repeat forever
with the interval option.
Without fix:
# perf stat -r 0 -I 5000 -e cycles -a sleep 10
# time counts unit events
5.000211692 3,13,89,82,34,157 cycles

10.040467280 17,16,79,265 cycles
Segmentation fault
This problem was only observed when we use forever option aka -r 0 and
works with limited repeats. Calling print_counter with ts being set to
NULL, is not a correct option when interval is set. Hence avoid
print_counter(NULL,..) if interval is set.

When using 'perf stat' with repeat and interval option, it shows wrong
values for events.
The wrong values will be shown for the first interval on the second and
subsequent repetitions.

prev_raw_counts is allocated when using intervals. This is used when
calculating the difference in the counts of events when using interval.
The current counts are stored in prev_raw_counts to calculate the
differences in the next iteration.
On the first interval of the second and subsequent repetitions,
prev_raw_counts would be the values stored in the last interval of the
previous repetitions, while the current counts will only be for the
first interval of the current repetition.
Hence there is a possibility of events showing up as big number.
Fix this by resetting prev_raw_counts whenever perf stat repeats the
command.
With the fix:
# perf stat -r 3 -I 2000 -e faults -e sched:sched_switch -a sleep 5

Pruning a bit more the includes dependency tree. Building this thing on
lots of containers takes time, we better reduce the time per build, each
container is doing 6 builds when clang and clang-devel are available,
and the plan is to do a 'make -C tools/perf build-test' that have many
more.
Also helps when doing normal development, as touching some random file
will have a much reduced chance of triggering lots of rebuilds.

The xsk_socket__create() function fails and returns an error if it cannot
get the XDP_OPTIONS through getsockopt(). However, support for XDP_OPTIONS
was not added until kernel 5.3, so this means that creating XSK sockets
always fails on older kernels.
Since the option is just used to set the zero-copy flag in the xsk struct,
and that flag is not really used for anything yet, just remove the
getsockopt() call until a proper use for it is introduced.

commit "c016ae8f9fa04d361efc8629de49ad3af12b5262
"tools/power/x86/intel-speed-select: Output success/failed for command
output" introduced a regression in perf-profile outputs. With this
the result field is changed to string interpreting every non zero
value as errors. But these commands display on zero (>0) result.
For example before this commit the display was:
package-1
die-0
cpu-14
get-config-levels:4
Here the get-config-levels is interpreted as error and displayed
as error with the above commit:
package-1
die-0
cpu-14
get-config-levels:failed(error 4)
Fix this issue by not using isst_display_result() to display such results,
but define a new function which formats this data and prints.

Here is the big char/misc driver pull request for 5.4-rc1.
As has been happening in previous releases, more and more individual
driver subsystem trees are ending up in here. Now if that is good or
bad I can't tell, but hopefully it makes your life easier as it's more
of an aggregation of trees together to one merge point for you.
Anyway, lots of stuff in here:
- habanalabs driver updates
- thunderbolt driver updates
- misc driver updates
- coresight and intel_th hwtracing driver updates
- fpga driver updates
- extcon driver updates
- some dma driver updates

Here is the big staging/iio driver update for 5.4-rc1.
Lots of churn here, with a few driver/filesystems moving out of staging
finally:
- erofs moved out of staging
- greybus core code moved out of staging
Along with that, a new filesytem has been added:
- extfat
to provide support for those devices requiring that filesystem (i.e.
transfer devices to/from windows systems or printers.)
Other than that, there a number of new IIO drivers, and lots and lots
and lots of staging driver cleanups and minor fixes as people continue
to dig into those for easy changes.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

Here is the big set of USB patches for 5.4-rc1.
Two major chunks of code are moving out of the tree and into the staging
directory, uwb and wusb (wireless USB support), because there are no
devices that actually use this protocol anymore, and what we have today
probably doesn't work at all given that the maintainers left many many
years ago. So move it to staging where it will be removed in a few
releases if no one screams.
Other than that, lots of little things. The usual gadget and xhci and
usb serial driver updates, along with a bunch of sysfs file cleanups due
to the driver core changes to support that. Nothing really major, just
constant forward progress.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

Merge tag 'leds-for-5.4-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/j.anaszewski/linux-leds
Pull LED updates from Jacek Anaszewski:
"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,
more complete driver exists, based on a generic driver for the AMD
SOCs gpio-controller, supporting LEDs as well other devices:
- drop profile field from priv data
- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper
- leds-lm3697, leds-lm36274, leds-lm3532:
- switch to use fwnode_property_count_uXX()
- leds-lm3532:
- fix brightness control for i2c mode
- change the define for the fs current register
- fixes for the driver for stability
- add full scale current configuration
- dt: Add property for full scale current.
- avoid potentially unpaired regulator calls
- move static keyword to the front of declarations
- fix optional led-max-microamp prop error handling
- leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- add MODULE_ALIAS()
- Switch to fwnode property API
- leds-as3645a:
- fix misuse of strlcpy
- leds-netxbig:
- add of_node_put() in netxbig_leds_get_of_pdata()
- remove legacy board-file support
- leds-is31fl319x:
- simplify getting the adapter of a client
- leds-ti-lmu-common:
- fix coccinelle issue
- move static keyword to the front of declaration
- leds-syscon:
- use resource managed variant of device register
- leds-ktd2692:
- fix a typo in the name of a constant
- leds-lp5562:
- allow firmware files up to the maximum length
- leds-an30259a:
- fix typo
- leds-pca953x:
- include the right header"

Running the ftrace selftests on the latest kernel caused the
kprobe_eventname test to fail. It was due to the test that searches for
a function with at "dot" in the name and adding a probe to that.
Unfortunately, for this test, it picked:
optimize_nops.isra.2.cold.4
Which happens to be marked as "__init", which means it no longer exists
in the kernel! (kallsyms keeps those function names around for tracing
purposes)
As only functions that still exist are in the
available_filter_functions file, as they are removed when the functions
are freed at boot or module exit, have the test search for a function
with ".isra." in the name as well as being in the
available_filter_functions (if the file exists).

tags_test.c relies on PR_SET_TAGGED_ADDR_CTRL/PR_TAGGED_ADDR_ENABLE being
present in system headers. When this is not the case the build of this
test fails with undeclared identifier errors.
Fix by providing the path to the KSFT installed kernel headers in CFLAGS.

ad-hoc extensions and added random noise. It's now a coherent, easy
to follow nomenclature.
- Add new Intel CPU model IDs:
- "Tiger Lake" desktop and mobile models
- "Elkhart Lake" model ID
- and the "Lightning Mountain" variant of Airmont, plus support code
- Add the new AVX512_VP2INTERSECT instruction to cpufeatures
- Remove Intel MPX user-visible APIs and the self-tests, because the
toolchain (gcc) is not supporting it going forward. This is the
first, lowest-risk phase of MPX removal.
- Remove X86_FEATURE_MFENCE_RDTSC
- Various smaller cleanups and fixes

It's probably worth highlighting that we've pulled in a branch from

Merge tag 'core-process-v5.4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brauner/linux
Pull pidfd/waitid updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains two features and various tests.
First, it adds support for waiting on process through pidfds by adding
the P_PIDFD type to the waitid() syscall. This completes the basic
functionality of the pidfd api (cf. [1]). In the meantime we also have
a new adition to the userspace projects that make use of the pidfd
api. The qt project was nice enough to send a mail pointing out that
they have a pr up to switch to the pidfd api (cf. [2]).
Second, this tag contains an extension to the waitid() syscall to make
it possible to wait on the current process group in a race free manner
(even though the actual problem is very unlikely) by specifing 0
together with the P_PGID type. This extension traces back to a
discussion on the glibc development mailing list.
There are also a range of tests for the features above. Additionally,
the test-suite which detected the pidfd-polling race we fixed in [3]
is included in this tag"

pull-request: bpf-next 2019-09-16
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Now that initial BPF backend for gcc has been merged upstream, enable
BPF kselftest suite for bpf-gcc. Also fix a BE issue with access to
bpf_sysctl.file_pos, from Ilya.
2) Follow-up fix for link-vmlinux.sh to remove bash-specific extensions
related to recent work on exposing BTF info through sysfs, from Andrii.
3) AF_XDP zero copy fixes for i40e and ixgbe driver which caused umem
headroom to be added twice, from Ciara.
4) Refactoring work to convert sock opt tests into test_progs framework
in BPF kselftests, from Stanislav.
5) Fix a general protection fault in dev_map_hash_update_elem(), from Toke.
6) Cleanup to use BPF_PROG_RUN() macro in KCM, from Sami.

"ctx:file_pos sysctl:read write ok" fails on s390 with "Read value !=
nux". This is because verifier rewrites a complete 32-bit
bpf_sysctl.file_pos update to a partial update of the first 32 bits of
64-bit *bpf_sysctl_kern.ppos, which is not correct on big-endian
systems.
Fix by using an offset on big-endian systems.
Ditto for bpf_sysctl.file_pos reads. Currently the test does not detect
a problem there, since it expects to see 0, which it gets with high
probability in error cases, so change it to seek to offset 3 and expect
3 in bpf_sysctl.file_pos.

Now that binutils and gcc support for BPF is upstream, make use of it in
BPF selftests using alu32-like approach. Share as much as possible of
CFLAGS calculation with clang.
Fixes only obvious issues, leaving more complex ones for later:
- Use gcc-provided bpf-helpers.h instead of manually defining the
helpers, change bpf_helpers.h include guard to avoid conflict.
- Include <linux/stddef.h> for __always_inline.
- Add $(OUTPUT)/../usr/include to include path in order to use local
kernel headers instead of system kernel headers when building with O=.
In order to activate the bpf-gcc support, one needs to configure
binutils and gcc with --target=bpf and make them available in $PATH. In
particular, gcc must be installed as `bpf-gcc`, which is the default.
Right now with binutils 25a2915e8dba and gcc r275589 only a handful of
tests work:
# ./test_progs_bpf_gcc
# Summary: 7/39 PASSED, 1 SKIPPED, 98 FAILED
The reason for those failures are as follows:
- Build errors:
- `error: too many function arguments for eBPF` for __always_inline
functions read_str_var and read_map_var - must be inlining issue,
and for process_l3_headers_v6, which relies on optimizing away
function arguments.
- `error: indirect call in function, which are not supported by eBPF`
where there are no obvious indirect calls in the source calls, e.g.
in __encap_ipip_none.
- `error: field 'lock' has incomplete type` for fields of `struct
bpf_spin_lock` type - bpf_spin_lock is re#defined by bpf-helpers.h,
so its usage is sensitive to order of #includes.
- `error: eBPF stack limit exceeded` in sysctl_tcp_mem.
- Load errors:
- Missing object files due to above build errors.
- `libbpf: failed to create map (name: 'test_ver.bss')`.
- `libbpf: object file doesn't contain bpf program`.
- `libbpf: Program '.text' contains unrecognized relo data pointing to
section 0`.
- `libbpf: BTF is required, but is missing or corrupted` - no BTF
support in gcc yet.
