As we look to enable AFBC using DRM format modifiers, we run into
problems which we've historically handled via vendor-private details
(i.e. gralloc, on Android).
AFBC (as an encoding) is fully flexible, and for example YUV data can
be encoded into 1, 2 or 3 encoded "planes", much like the linear
equivalents. Component order is also meaningful, as AFBC doesn't
necessarily care about what each "channel" of the data it encodes
contains. Therefore ABGR8888 and RGBA8888 can be encoded in AFBC with
different representations. Similarly, 'X' components may be encoded
into AFBC streams in cases where a decoder expects to decode a 4th
component.
In addition, AFBC is a licensable IP, meaning that to support the
ecosystem we need to ensure that _all_ AFBC users are able to describe
the encodings that they need. This is much better achieved by
preserving meaning in the fourcc codes when they are combined with an
AFBC modifier.
In essence, we want to use the modifier to describe the parameters of
the AFBC encode/decode, and use the fourcc code to describe the data
being encoded/decoded.
To do anything different would be to introduce redundancy - we would
need to duplicate in the modifier information which is _already_
conveyed clearly and non-ambigiously by a fourcc code.
I hope that for RGB this is non-controversial.
(BGRA8888 + MODIFIER_AFBC) is a different format from
(RGBA8888 + MODIFIER_AFBC).
Possibly more controversial is that (XBGR8888 + MODIFIER_AFBC)
is different from (BGR888 + MODIFIER_AFBC). I understand that in some
schemes it is not the case - but in AFBC it is so.
Where we run into problems is where there are not already fourcc codes
which represent the data which the AFBC encoder/decoder is processing.
To that end, we want to introduce new fourcc codes to describe the
data being encoded/decoded, in the places where none of the existing
fourcc codes are applicable.
Where we don't support an equivalent non-compressed layout, or where
no "obvious" linear layout exists, we are proposing adding fourcc
codes which have no associated linear layout - because any layout we
proposed would be completely arbitrary.
Some formats are following the naming conventions from [2].
The summary of the new formats is:
DRM_FORMAT_VUY888 - Packed 8-bit YUV 444. Y followed by U then V.
DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010 - Packed 10-bit YUV 444. Y followed by U then
V. No defined linear encoding.
DRM_FORMAT_Y210 - Packed 10-bit YUV 422. Y followed by U (then Y)
then V. 10-bit samples in 16-bit words.
DRM_FORMAT_Y410 - Packed 10-bit YUV 444, with 2-bit alpha.
DRM_FORMAT_P210 - Semi-planar 10-bit YUV 422. Y plane, followed by
interleaved U-then-V plane. 10-bit samples in
16-bit words.
DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT - Packed 8-bit YUV 420. Y followed by U then
V. No defined linear encoding
DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_10BIT - Packed 10-bit YUV 420. Y followed by U
then V. No defined linear encoding
Please also note that in the absence of AFBC, we would still need to
add Y410, Y210 and P210.
Full rationale follows:
YUV 444 8-bit, 1-plane
----------------------
The currently defined AYUV format encodes a 4th alpha component,
which makes it unsuitable for representing a 3-component YUV 444
AFBC stream.
The proposed[1] XYUV format which is supported by Mali-DP in linear
layout is also unsuitable, because the component order is the
opposite of the AFBC version, and it encodes a 4th 'X' component.
DRM_FORMAT_VUY888 is the "obvious" format for a 3-component, packed,
YUV 444 8-bit format, with the component order which our HW expects to
encode/decode. It conforms to the same naming convention as the
existing packed YUV 444 format.
The naming here is meant to be consistent with DRM_FORMAT_AYUV and
DRM_FORMAT_XYUV[1]
YUV 444 10-bit, 1-plane
-----------------------
There is no currently-defined YUV 444 10-bit format in
drm_fourcc.h, irrespective of number of planes.
The proposed[1] XVYU2101010 format which is supported by Mali-DP in
linear layout uses the wrong component order, and also encodes a 4th
'X' component, which doesn't match the AFBC version of YUV 444
10-bit which we support.
DRM_FORMAT_Y410 is the same layout as XVYU2101010, but with 2 bits of
alpha. This format is supported with linear layout by Mali GPUs. The
naming follows[2].
There is no "obvious" linear encoding for a 3-component 10:10:10
packed format, and so DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010 defines a component
order, but not a bit encoding. Again, the naming is meant to be
consistent with DRM_FORMAT_AYUV.
YUV 422 8-bit, 1-plane
----------------------
The existing DRM_FORMAT_YUYV (and the other component orders) are
single-planar YUV 422 8-bit formats. Following the convention of
the component orders of the RGB formats, YUYV has the correct
component order for our AFBC encoding (Y followed by U followed by
V). We can use YUYV for AFBC YUV 422 8-bit.
YUV 422 10-bit, 1-plane
-----------------------
There is no currently-defined YUV 422 10-bit format in drm_fourcc.h
DRM_FORMAT_Y210 is analogous to YUYV, but with 10-bits per sample
packed into the upper 10-bits of 16-bit samples. This format is
supported in both linear and AFBC by Mali GPUs.
YUV 422 10-bit, 2-plane
-----------------------
The recently defined DRM_FORMAT_P010 format is a 10-bit semi-planar
YUV 420 format, which has the correct component ordering for an AFBC
2-plane YUV 420 buffer. The linear layout contains meaningless padding
bits, which will not be encoded in an AFBC stream.
YUV 420 8-bit, 1-plane
----------------------
There is no currently defined single-planar YUV 420, 8-bit format
in drm_fourcc.h. There's differing opinions on whether using the
existing fourcc-implied n_planes where possible is a good idea or
not when using modifiers.
For me, it's much more "obvious" to use NV12 for 2-plane AFBC and
YUV420 for 3-plane AFBC. This keeps the aforementioned separation
between the AFBC codec settings (in the modifier) and the pixel data
format (in the fourcc). With different vendors using AFBC, this helps
to ensure that there is no confusion in interoperation. It also
ensures that the AFBC modifiers describe AFBC itself (which is a
licensable component), and not implementation details which are not
defined by AFBC.
The proposed[1] X0L0 format which Mali-DP supports with Linear layout
is unsuitable, as it contains a 4th 'X' component, and our AFBC
decoder expects only 3 components.
To that end, we propose a new YUV 420 8-bit format. There is no
"obvious" linear encoding for a 3-component 8:8:8, 420, packed format,
and so DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT defines a component order, but not a
bit encoding. I'm happy to hear different naming suggestions.
YUV 420 8-bit, 2-, 3-plane
--------------------------
These already exist, we can use NV12 and YUV420.
YUV 420 10-bit, 1-plane
-----------------------
As above, no current definition exists, and X0L2 encodes a 4th 'X'
channel.
Analogous to DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT, we define DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_10BIT.

As we allow per-context engine allows the legacy concept of
I915_EXEC_RING no longer applies universally. We are still exposing the
unrelated exec-id in GEM_BUSY, so transition this ioctl (once more

uabi-class (not instance as we can not foreseeably fit those into the

The only user of the extended ring information from GEM_BUSY is ddx/sna,

for it is the decision between rcs and !rcs, so it is unaffected by the

Having introduced per-context seqno, we now have a means to identity
progress across the system without feel of rollback as befell the
global_seqno. That is we can program a MI_SEMAPHORE_WAIT operation in
advance of submission safe in the knowledge that our target seqno and
address is stable.
However, since we are telling the GPU to busy-spin on the target address
until it matches the signaling seqno, we only want to do so when we are
sure that busy-spin will be completed quickly. To achieve this we only
submit the request to HW once the signaler is itself executing (modulo
preemption causing us to wait longer), and we only do so for default and
above priority requests (so that idle priority tasks never themselves
hog the GPU waiting for others).
As might be reasonably expected, HW semaphores excel in inter-engine
synchronisation microbenchmarks (where the 3x reduced latency / increased
throughput more than offset the power cost of spinning on a second ring)
and have significant improvement (can be up to ~10%, most see no change)
for single clients that utilize multiple engines (typically media players
and transcoders), without regressing multiple clients that can saturate
the system or changing the power envelope dramatically.
v3: Drop the older NEQ branch, now we pin the signaler's HWSP anyway.
v4: Tell the world and include it as part of scheduler caps.

Some clients, such as mesa, may only emit minimal incremental batches
that rely on the logical context state from previous batches. They know
that recovery is impossible after a hang as their required GPU state is
lost, and that each in flight and subsequent batch will hang (resetting
the context image back to default perpetuating the problem).
To avoid getting into the state in the first place, we can allow clients
to opt out of automatic recovery and elect to ban any guilty context
following a hang. This prevents the continual stream of hangs and allows
the client to recreate their context and rebuild the state from scratch.

To do so, we expose a context parameter to allow adjustment of the RPCS
register stored within the context image (and currently not accessible via
LRI).
If the context is adjusted before first use or whilst idle, the adjustment
is for "free"; otherwise if the context is active we queue a request to do
so (using the kernel context), following all other activity by that
context, which is also marked as barrier for all following submission
against the same context.
Since the overhead of device re-configuration during context switching can
be significant, especially in multi-context workloads, we limit this new
uAPI to only support the Gen11 VME use case. In this use case either the
device is fully enabled, and exactly one slice and half of the subslices
are enabled.
Example usage:
struct drm_i915_gem_context_param_sseu sseu = { };
struct drm_i915_gem_context_param arg = {
.param = I915_CONTEXT_PARAM_SSEU,
.ctx_id = gem_context_create(fd),
.size = sizeof(sseu),
.value = to_user_pointer(&sseu)
};
/* Query device defaults. */
gem_context_get_param(fd, &arg);
/* Set VME configuration on a 1x6x8 part. */
sseu.slice_mask = 0x1;
sseu.subslice_mask = 0xe0;
gem_context_set_param(fd, &arg);

To lower CPU overhead, future userspace will be switching to pinning
iova and avoiding the use of relocs, and only include cmds table entries
for IB1 level cmdstream (but not IB2 or state-groups).
This leaves the kernel unsure what to dump for rd/hangrd cmdstream
dumping. So add a MSM_SUBMIT_BO_DUMP flag so userspace can indicate
buffers that contain cmdstream (or are otherwise important to dump).

FB_DAMAGE_CLIPS is an optional plane property to mark damaged regions
on the plane in framebuffer coordinates of the framebuffer attached to
the plane.
The layout of blob data is simply an array of "struct drm_mode_rect".
Unlike plane src coordinates, damage clips are not in 16.16 fixed point.
As plane src in framebuffer cannot be negative so are damage clips. In
damage clip, x1/y1 are inclusive and x2/y2 are exclusive.
This patch also exports the kernel internal drm_rect to userspace as
drm_mode_rect. This is because "struct drm_clip_rect" is not sufficient
to represent damage for current plane size.
Driver which are interested in enabling FB_DAMAGE_CLIPS property for a
plane should enable this property using drm_plane_enable_damage_clips.

The TFU can copy from raster, UIF, and SAND input images to UIF output
images, with optional mipmap generation. This will certainly be
useful for media EGL image input, but is also useful immediately for
mipmap generation without bogging the V3D core down.
For now we only run the queue 1 job deep, and don't have any hang
recovery (though I don't think we should need it, with TFU). Queuing
multiple jobs in the HW will require synchronizing the YUV coefficient
regs updates since they don't get FIFOed with the job.
v2: Change the ioctl to IOW instead of IOWR, always set COEF0, explain
why TFU is AUTH, clarify the syncing docs, drop the unused TFU
interrupt regs (you're expected to use the hub's), don't take
&bo->base for NULL bos.

When the execbuf call receives an in-fence it will get the dma_fence
related to that fence fd and wait on it before submitting the draw call.
On the out-fence side we get fence returned by the submitted draw call
and attach it to a sync_file and send the sync_file fd to userspace. On
error -1 is returned to userspace.
VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_IN & VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_OUT
are supported at the simultaneously and can be flagged
for simultaneously.

Add a new field called fence_fd that will be used by userspace to send
in-fences to the kernel and receive out-fences created by the kernel.
This uapi enables virtio to take advantage of explicit synchronization of
dma-bufs.
There are two new flags:
* VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_IN to be used when passing an in-fence fd.
* VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_OUT to be used when requesting an out-fence fd
The execbuffer IOCTL is now read-write to allow the userspace to read the
out-fence.
On error -1 should be returned in the fence_fd field.

[Why]
Hardware support for Delta Color Compression (DCC) decompression is
available in DC for GFX9 but there's no way for userspace to enable
the feature.
Enabling the feature can provide improved GFX performance and
power savings in many situations.
[How]
Extend the GFX9 tiling flags to include DCC parameters. These are
logically grouped together with tiling flags even if they are
technically distinct.
This trivially maintains backwards compatibility with existing
users of amdgpu_gem_metadata. No new IOCTls or data structures are
needed to support DCC.
This patch helps expose DCC attributes to both libdrm and amdgpu_dm.

This patch is for VK_KHR_timeline_semaphore extension, semaphore is called syncobj in kernel side:
This extension introduces a new type of syncobj that has an integer payload
identifying a point in a timeline. Such timeline syncobjs support the
following operations:
* CPU query - A host operation that allows querying the payload of the
timeline syncobj.
* CPU wait - A host operation that allows a blocking wait for a
timeline syncobj to reach a specified value.
* Device wait - A device operation that allows waiting for a
timeline syncobj to reach a specified value.
* Device signal - A device operation that allows advancing the
timeline syncobj to a specified value.
v1:
Since it's a timeline, that means the front time point(PT) always is signaled before the late PT.
a. signal PT design:
Signal PT fence N depends on PT[N-1] fence and signal opertion fence, when PT[N] fence is signaled,
the timeline will increase to value of PT[N].
b. wait PT design:
Wait PT fence is signaled by reaching timeline point value, when timeline is increasing, will compare
wait PTs value with new timeline value, if PT value is lower than timeline value, then wait PT will be
signaled, otherwise keep in list. syncobj wait operation can wait on any point of timeline,
so need a RB tree to order them. And wait PT could ahead of signal PT, we need a sumission fence to
perform that.
v2:
1. remove unused DRM_SYNCOBJ_CREATE_TYPE_NORMAL. (Christian)
2. move unexposed denitions to .c file. (Daniel Vetter)
3. split up the change to drm_syncobj_find_fence() in a separate patch. (Christian)
4. split up the change to drm_syncobj_replace_fence() in a separate patch.
5. drop the submission_fence implementation and instead use wait_event() for that. (Christian)
6. WARN_ON(point != 0) for NORMAL type syncobj case. (Daniel Vetter)
v3:
1. replace normal syncobj with timeline implemenation. (Vetter and Christian)
a. normal syncobj signal op will create a signal PT to tail of signal pt list.
b. normal syncobj wait op will create a wait pt with last signal point, and this wait PT is only signaled by related signal point PT.
2. many bug fix and clean up
3. stub fence moving is moved to other patch.
v4:
1. fix RB tree loop with while(node=rb_first(...)). (Christian)
2. fix syncobj lifecycle. (Christian)
3. only enable_signaling when there is wait_pt. (Christian)
4. fix timeline path issues.
5. write a timeline test in libdrm
v5: (Christian)
1. semaphore is called syncobj in kernel side.
2. don't need 'timeline' characters in some function name.
3. keep syncobj cb.
v6: (Christian)
1. merge syncobj_timeline to syncobj structure.
2. simplify some check sentences.
3. some misc change.
4. fix CTS failed issue.
v7: (Christian)
1. error handling when creating signal pt.
2. remove timeline naming in func.
3. export flags in find_fence.
4. allow reset timeline.
v8:
1. use wait_event_interruptible without timeout
2. rename _TYPE_INDIVIDUAL to _TYPE_BINARY
v9:
1. rename signal_pt->base to signal_pt->fence_array to avoid misleading
2. improve kerneldoc
individual syncobj is tested by ./deqp-vk -n dEQP-VK*semaphore*
timeline syncobj is tested by ./amdgpu_test -s 9

Not all chipsets have an internal buffer delaying the visibility of
writes via the GGTT being visible by other physical paths, but we use a
very heavy workaround for all. We only need to apply that workarounds to
the chipsets we know suffer from the delay and the resulting coherency
issue.
Similarly, the same inconsistent coherency fouls up our ABI promise that
a write into a mmap_gtt is immediately visible to others. Since the HW
has made that a lie, let userspace know when that contract is broken.
(Not that userspace would want to use mmap_gtt on those chipsets for
other performance reasons...)

Initially vmware buffer objects were only used as DMA buffers, so the name
DMA buffer was a natural one. However, currently they are used also as
dumb buffers and MOBs backing guest backed objects so renaming them to
buffer objects is logical. Particularly since there is a dmabuf subsystem
in the kernel where a dma buffer means something completely different.
This also renames user-space api structures and IOCTL names
correspondingly, but the old names remain defined for now and the ABI
hasn't changed.

Writeback connectors represent writeback engines which can write the
CRTC output to a memory framebuffer. Add a writeback connector type and
related support functions.
Drivers should initialize a writeback connector with
drm_writeback_connector_init() which takes care of setting up all the
writeback-specific details on top of the normal functionality of
drm_connector_init().
Writeback connectors have a WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, used to set the
output framebuffer, and a WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS blob used to expose the
supported writeback formats to userspace.
When a framebuffer is attached to a writeback connector with the
WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, it is used only once (for the commit in which
it was included), and userspace can never read back the value of
WRITEBACK_FB_ID. WRITEBACK_FB_ID can only be set if the connector is
attached to a CRTC.
Changes since v1:
- Added drm_writeback.c + documentation
- Added helper to initialize writeback connector in one go
- Added core checks
- Squashed into a single commit
- Dropped the client cap
- Writeback framebuffers are no longer persistent
Changes since v2:
Daniel Vetter:
- Subclass drm_connector to drm_writeback_connector
- Relax check to allow CRTC to be set without an FB
- Add some writeback_ prefixes
- Drop PIXEL_FORMATS_SIZE property, as it was unnecessary
Gustavo Padovan:
- Add drm_writeback_job to handle writeback signalling centrally
Changes since v3:
- Rebased
- Rename PIXEL_FORMATS -> WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS
Chances since v4:
- Embed a drm_encoder inside the drm_writeback_connector to
reduce the amount of boilerplate code required from the drivers
that are using it.
Changes since v5:
- Added Rob Clark's atomic_commit() vfunc to connector helper
funcs, so that writeback jobs are committed from atomic helpers
- Updated create_writeback_properties() signature to return an
error code rather than a boolean false for failure.
- Free writeback job with the connector state rather than when
doing the cleanup_work()
Changes since v7:
- fix extraneous use of out_fence that is only introduced in a
subsequent patch.
Changes since v8:
- whitespace changes pull from subsequent patch
Changes since v9:
- Revert the v6 changes that free the writeback job in the connector
state cleanup and return to doing it in the cleanup_work() function

Added content_type property to drm_connector_state
in order to properly handle external HDMI TV content-type setting.
v2:
* Moved helper function which attaches content type property
to the drm core, as was suggested.
Removed redundant connector state initialization.
v3:
* Removed caps in drm_content_type_enum_list.
After some discussion it turned out that HDMI Spec 1.4
was wrongly assuming that IT Content(itc) bit doesn't affect
Content type states, however itc bit needs to be manupulated
as well. In order to not expose additional property for itc,
for sake of simplicity it was decided to bind those together
in same "content type" property.
v4:

Fixed documentation for new content type enum.
v5:
* Moved patch revision's description to commit messages.
v6:

v8:

be bound to any specific connector interface in
drm_connector_state.
Same probably should be done to hdmi_picture_aspect_ration enum

To enable aspect-ratio support in DRM, blindly exposing the aspect
ratio information along with mode, can break things in existing
non-atomic user-spaces which have no intention or support to use this
aspect ratio information.
To avoid this, a new drm client cap is required to enable a non-atomic
user-space to advertise if it supports modes with aspect-ratio. Based
on this cap value, the kernel will take a call on exposing the aspect
ratio info in modes or not.
This patch adds the client cap for aspect-ratio.
Since no atomic-userspaces blow up on receiving aspect-ratio
information, the client cap for aspect-ratio is always enabled
for atomic clients.

This patch adds Exynos IPP v2 subsystem and userspace API.
New userspace API is focused ONLY on memory-to-memory image processing.
The two remainging operation modes of obsolete IPP v1 API (framebuffer
writeback and local-path output with image processing) can be implemented
using standard DRM features: writeback connectors and additional DRM planes
with scaling features.
V2 IPP userspace API is based on stateless approach, which much better fits
to memory-to-memory image processing model. It also provides support for
all image formats, which are both already defined in DRM API and supported
by the existing IPP hardware modules.
The API consists of the following ioctls:
- DRM_IOCTL_EXYNOS_IPP_GET_RESOURCES: to enumerate all available image
processing modules,
- DRM_IOCTL_EXYNOS_IPP_GET_CAPS: to query capabilities and supported image
formats of given IPP module,
- DRM_IOCTL_EXYNOS_IPP_GET_LIMITS: to query hardware limitiations for
selected image format of given IPP module,
- DRM_IOCTL_EXYNOS_IPP_COMMIT: to perform operation described by the
provided structures (source and destination buffers, operation rectangle,
transformation, etc).
The proposed userspace API is extensible. In the future more advanced image
processing operations can be defined to support for example blending.
Userspace API is fully functional also on DRM render nodes, so it is not
limited to the root/privileged client.
Internal driver API also has been completely rewritten. New IPP core
performs all possible input validation, checks and object life-time
control. The drivers can focus only on writing configuration to hardware
registers. Stateless nature of DRM_IOCTL_EXYNOS_IPP_COMMIT ioctl simplifies
the driver API. Minimal driver needs to provide a single callback for
starting processing and an array with supported image formats.

V3D 3.3 introduces an MMU, which means we no longer need CMA or vc4's

I had originally asked Stefan Schake to drop the pad field from the
syncobj changes that just landed, because I couldn't come up with a
reason to align to 64 bits.
Talking with Dave Airlie about the new v3d driver's submit ioctl, we
came up with a reason: sizeof() on 64-bit platforms may align to 64
bits, in which case the userspace will be submitting the aligned size
and the final 32 bits won't be zero-padded by the kernel. If
userspace doesn't zero-fill, then a future ABI change adding a 32-bit
field at the end could potentially cause the kernel to read undefined
data from old userspace (our userspace happens to use structure
initialization that zero-fills, but as a general rule we try not to
rely on that in the kernel).

With the introduction of asymmetric slices in CNL, we cannot rely on
the previous SUBSLICE_MASK getparam to tell userspace what subslices
are available. Here we introduce a more detailed way of querying the
Gen's GPU topology that doesn't aggregate numbers.
This is essential for monitoring parts of the GPU with the OA unit,
because counters need to be normalized to the number of
EUs/subslices/slices. The current aggregated numbers like EU_TOTAL do
not gives us sufficient information.

There are a number of information that are readable from hardware
registers and that we would like to make accessible to userspace. One
particular example is the topology of the execution units (how are
execution units grouped in subslices and slices and also which ones
have been fused off for die recovery).
At the moment the GET_PARAM ioctl covers some basic needs, but
generally is only able to return a single value for each defined
parameter. This is a bit problematic with topology descriptions which
are array/maps of available units.
This change introduces a new ioctl that can deal with requests to fill
structures of potentially variable lengths. The user is expected fill
a query with length fields set at 0 on the first call, the kernel then
sets the length fields to the their expected values. A second call to
the kernel with length fields at their expected values will trigger a
copy of the data to the pointed memory locations.
The scope of this uAPI is only to provide information to userspace,
not to allow configuration of the device.

DRM_MODE_PROP_PENDING is not used anywhere (except printed out
by libdrm proptest/modetest).
This seems to be yet another thing blindly copied from xrandr.
Quoting from the protocol spec:
"If 'pending' is TRUE, changes made to property values with
RRChangeOutputProperty will be saved in the pending property value
and be automatically copied to the current value on the next
RRSetCrtcConfig request involving the named output. If 'pending' is
FALSE, changes are copied immediately."
So it was some kind of early idea for atomic property updates.

The V3D engine has various hardware counters which might be interesting
to userspace performance analysis tools.
Expose new ioctls to create/destroy a performance monitor object and
query the counter values of this perfmance monitor.
Note that a perfomance monitor is given an ID that is only valid on the
file descriptor it has been allocated from. A performance monitor can be
attached to a CL submission and the driver will enable HW counters for
this request and update the performance monitor values at the end of the
job.

Deprecate the silly I915_SET_COLORKEY_NONE flag. The obvious
way to disable colorkey is to just set flags to 0, which is
exactly what the intel ddx has been doing all along.
Currently when userspace sets the flags to 0, we end up in a
funny state where colorkey is disabled, but various colorkey
vs. scaling checks still consider colorkey to be enabled, and
thus we don't allow plane scaling to kick in.
In case there is some other userspace out there that actually
uses this flag (unlikely as this is an i915 specific uapi)
we'll keep on accepting it.

I think this maybe originated from fbdev where it was supposed to
indicate PAL/NTSC broadcast timings. I have no idea why those would
have to be identified by a flag rather than by just the timings
themselves. And then I assume it got copied into xfree86 for
fbdevhw, and later on it leaked into the randr protocol and kms uapi.
Since kms fbdev emulation never uses the corresponding fbdev flag
there should be no sane way for this to come back into kms via

This patch adds a new optional connector property to allow userspace to enable
protection over the content it is displaying. This will typically be implemented
by the driver using HDCP.
The property is a tri-state with the following values:
- OFF: Self explanatory, no content protection
- DESIRED: Userspace requests that the driver enable protection
- ENABLED: Once the driver has authenticated the link, it sets this value
The driver is responsible for downgrading ENABLED to DESIRED if the link becomes
unprotected. The driver should also maintain the desiredness of protection
across hotplug/dpms/suspend.
If this looks familiar, I posted [1] this 3 years ago. We have been using this
in ChromeOS across exynos, mediatek, and rockchip over that time.

Exynos DRM IPP subsystem is in fact non-functional and frankly speaking
dead-code. This patch clearly marks that Exynos DRM IPP subsystem is
broken and never really functional. It will be replaced by a completely
rewritten API.
Exynos DRM IPP user-space API can be obsoleted for the following
reasons:
1. Exynos DRM IPP user-space API can be optional in Exynos DRM, so
userspace should not rely that it is always available and should have
a software fallback in case it is not there.
2. The only mode which was initially semi-working was memory-to-memory
image processing. The remaining modes (LCD-"writeback" and "output")
were never operational due to missing code (both in mainline and even
vendor kernels).
3. Exynos DRM IPP mainline user-space API compatibility for
memory-to-memory got broken very early by commit 083500baef ("drm:
remove DRM_FORMAT_NV12MT", which removed the support for tiled formats,
the main feature which made this API somehow useful on Exynos platforms
(video codec that time produced only tiled frames, to implement xvideo
or any other video overlay, one has to de-tile them for proper
display).
4. Broken drivers. Especially once support for IOMMU has been added,
it revealed that drivers don't configure DMA operations properly and in
many cases operate outside the provided buffers trashing memory around.
5. Need for external patches. Although IPP user-space API has been used
in some vendor kernels, but in such cases there were additional patches
applied (like reverting mentioned 083500baef patch) what means that
those userspace apps which might use it, still won't work with the
mainline kernel version.
We don't have time machines, so we cannot change it, but Exynos DRM IPP
extension should never have been merged to mainline in that form.
Exynos IPP subsystem and user-space API will be rewritten, so remove
current IPP core code and mark existing drivers as BROKEN.

The existing format modifier definitions were merged prematurely, and
recent work has unveiled that the definitions are suboptimal in several
ways:
- The format specifiers, except for one, are not Tegra specific, but
the names don't reflect that.
- The number space is split into two, reserving 32 bits for some
"parameter" which most of the modifiers are not going to have.
- Symbolic names for the modifiers are not using the standard
DRM_FORMAT_MOD_* prefix, which makes them awkward to use.
- The vendor prefix NV is somewhat ambiguous.
Fortunately, nobody's started using these modifiers, so we can still fix
the above issues. Do so by using the standard prefix. Also, remove TEGRA
from the name of those modifiers that exist on NVIDIA GPUs as well. In
case of the block linear modifiers, make the "parameter" smaller (4
bits, though only 6 values are valid) and don't let that leak into any
of the other modifiers.
Finally, also use the more canonical NVIDIA instead of the ambiguous NV
prefix.

Chris has discovered that RC6, RC6p and RC6pp counters are mutually
exclusive, and even that on some SNB SKUs you get RC6p increasing, and on
the others RC6.
Furthermore RC6p and RC6pp were only present starting from GEN6 until,
GEN7, not including Haswell.
All this combined makes it questionable whether we need to reserve new ABI
for these counters. One idea was to just combine them all under the RC6
counter to simplify things for userspace. So that is what this patch does.

From: Chris Wilson <chris@chris-wilson.co.uk>
From: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin@intel.com>
From: Dmitry Rogozhkin <dmitry.v.rogozhkin@intel.com>
The first goal is to be able to measure GPU (and invidual ring) busyness
without having to poll registers from userspace. (Which not only incurs
holding the forcewake lock indefinitely, perturbing the system, but also
runs the risk of hanging the machine.) As an alternative we can use the
perf event counter interface to sample the ring registers periodically
and send those results to userspace.
Functionality we are exporting to userspace is via the existing perf PMU
API and can be exercised via the existing tools. For example:
perf stat -a -e i915/rcs0-busy/ -I 1000
Will print the render engine busynnes once per second. All the performance
counters can be enumerated (perf list) and have their unit of measure
correctly reported in sysfs.
v1-v2 (Chris Wilson):
v2: Use a common timer for the ring sampling.
v3: (Tvrtko Ursulin)
* Decouple uAPI from i915 engine ids.
* Complete uAPI defines.
* Refactor some code to helpers for clarity.
* Skip sampling disabled engines.
* Expose counters in sysfs.
* Pass in fake regs to avoid null ptr deref in perf core.
* Convert to class/instance uAPI.
* Use shared driver code for rc6 residency, power and frequency.
v4: (Dmitry Rogozhkin)
* Register PMU with .task_ctx_nr=perf_invalid_context
* Expose cpumask for the PMU with the single CPU in the mask
* Properly support pmu->stop(): it should call pmu->read()
* Properly support pmu->del(): it should call stop(event, PERF_EF_UPDATE)
* Introduce refcounting of event subscriptions.
* Make pmu.busy_stats a refcounter to avoid busy stats going away
with some deleted event.
* Expose cpumask for i915 PMU to avoid multiple events creation of
the same type followed by counter aggregation by perf-stat.
* Track CPUs getting online/offline to migrate perf context. If (likely)
cpumask will initially set CPU0, CONFIG_BOOTPARAM_HOTPLUG_CPU0 will be
needed to see effect of CPU status tracking.
* End result is that only global events are supported and perf stat
works correctly.
* Deny perf driver level sampling - it is prohibited for uncore PMU.
v5: (Tvrtko Ursulin)
* Don't hardcode number of engine samplers.
* Rewrite event ref-counting for correctness and simplicity.
* Store initial counter value when starting already enabled events
to correctly report values to all listeners.
* Fix RC6 residency readout.
* Comments, GPL header.
v6:
* Add missing entry to v4 changelog.
* Fix accounting in CPU hotplug case by copying the approach from
arch/x86/events/intel/cstate.c. (Dmitry Rogozhkin)
v7:
* Log failure message only on failure.
* Remove CPU hotplug notification state on unregister.
v8:
* Fix error unwind on failed registration.
* Checkpatch cleanup.
v9:
* Drop the energy metric, it is available via intel_rapl_perf.
(Ville Syrjälä)
* Use HAS_RC6(p). (Chris Wilson)
* Handle unsupported non-engine events. (Dmitry Rogozhkin)
* Rebase for intel_rc6_residency_ns needing caller managed
runtime pm.
* Drop HAS_RC6 checks from the read callback since creating those
events will be rejected at init time already.
* Add counter units to sysfs so perf stat output is nicer.
* Cleanup the attribute tables for brevity and readability.
v10:
* Fixed queued accounting.
v11:
* Move intel_engine_lookup_user to intel_engine_cs.c
* Commit update. (Joonas Lahtinen)
v12:
* More accurate sampling. (Chris Wilson)
* Store and report frequency in MHz for better usability from
perf stat.
* Removed metrics: queued, interrupts, rc6 counters.
* Sample engine busyness based on seqno difference only
for less MMIO (and forcewake) on all platforms. (Chris Wilson)
v13:
* Comment spelling, use mul_u32_u32 to work around potential GCC
issue and somne code alignment changes. (Chris Wilson)
v14:
* Rebase.
v15:
* Rebase for RPS refactoring.
v16:
* Use the dynamic slot in the CPU hotplug state machine so that we are
free to setup our state as multi-instance. Previously we were re-using
the CPUHP_AP_PERF_X86_UNCORE_ONLINE slot which is neither used as
multi-instance, nor owned by our driver to start with.
* Register the CPU hotplug handlers after the PMU, otherwise the callback
will get called before the PMU is initialized which can end up in
perf_pmu_migrate_context with an un-initialized base.
* Added workaround for a probable bug in cpuhp core.
v17:
* Remove workaround for the cpuhp bug.
v18:
* Rebase for drm_i915_gem_engine_class getting upstream before us.
v19:
* Rebase. (trivial)

Take a copy of the HW state after a reset upon module loading by
executing a context switch from a blank context to the kernel context,
thus saving the default hw state over the blank context image.
We can then use the default hw state to initialise any future context,
ensuring that each starts with the default view of hw state.
v2: Unmap our default state from the GTT after stealing it from the
context. This should stop us from accidentally overwriting it via the
GTT (and frees up some precious GTT space).

We want to be able to report back to userspace details about an engine's
class, and in return for userspace to be able to request actions
regarding certain classes of engines. To isolate the uABI from any
variations between hw generations, we define an abstract class for the
engines and internally map onto the hw.
v2: Remove MAX from the uABI; keep it internal if we need it, but don't
let userspace make the mistake of using it themselves.
v3: s/OTHER/INVALID/
The use of OTHER is ill-defined, so remove it from the uABI as any
future new type of engine can define a class to suit it. But keep a
reserved value for an invalid class, so that we can always
unambiguously express when something doesn't belong to the
classification.
