Few devices like H27UBG8T2CTR have a writesize/oobsize of 8KB/640B.
This means that the maximum oobsize has gone up to 640 bytes and consequently
the maximum ecc placement locations have also gone up to 640.

Just as Artem suggested:
"Both UBI and JFFS2 are able to read verify what they wrote already.
There are also MTD tests which do this verification. So I think there
is no reason to keep this in the NAND layer, let alone wasting RAM in
the driver to support this feature. Besides, it does not work for sub-pages
and many drivers have it broken. It hurts more than it provides benefits."
So kill MTD_NAND_VERIFY_WRITE entirely.

The NAND_CHIPOPTIONS_MSK has limited utility and is causing real bugs. It
silently masks off at least one flag that might be set by the driver
(NAND_NO_SUBPAGE_WRITE). This breaks the GPMI NAND driver and possibly
others.
Really, as long as driver writers exercise a small amount of care with
NAND_* options, this mask is not necessary at all; it was only here to
prevent certain options from accidentally being set by the driver. But the
original thought turns out to be a bad idea occasionally. Thus, kill it.
Note, this patch fixes some major gpmi-nand breakage.

'mtd_get_device_size()' returns the size of the whole MTD device, that is the
mtd_info master size. This will be used by UBI to calculate the maximum number
of bad blocks (MBB) on a MTD device.

There is an implemention of hardware ECC write page function which may return an
error indication.
For instance, using Atmel HW PMECC to write one page into a nand flash, the hardware
engine will compute the BCH ecc code for this page. so we need read a the
status register to theck whether the ecc code is generated.
But we cannot assume the status register always can be ready, for example,
incorrect hardware configuration or hardware issue, in such case we need
write_page() to return a error code.
Since the definition of 'write_page' function in struct nand_ecc_ctrl is 'void'.
So this patch will:
1. add return 'int' value for 'write_page' function.
2. to be consitent, add return 'int' value for 'write_page_raw' fuctions too.
3. add code to test the return value, and if negative, indicate an
error happend when write page with ECC.
4. fix the compile warning in all impacted nand flash driver.
Note: I couldn't compile-test all of these easily, as some had ARCH dependencies.

According to its documentation, the NAND_NO_READRDY option is always used
when autoincrement is not supported. Autoincrement support was recently
dropped, so we can drop this options as well (defaulting to "no read ready
check").

There are multiple reasons for a rewrite:
- a race exists: when _4ECCEND is set, _4ECCFA may become true too
meanwhile, which is lost and a non-correctable error is treated as
correctable.
- the ECC statistics don't get properly propagated to the base code.
- empty pages would get marked as corrupted
The rewrite resolves the issues and I hope it gives a more explicit
code flow structure.

The flctl hardware has changed and a new OOB layout must be adapted for
2KiB page size NAND chips when using hardware ECC.
The related bit fields ECCPOS[0-2] are gone — the bits are marked as
reserved now in the datasheet. As there are no official users of the
hardware ECC so far, they are completely removed.

This patch modifies ubi_wl_flush to force the erasure of
particular volume id / logical eraseblock number pairs. Previous functionality
is preserved when passing UBI_ALL for both values. The locations where ubi_wl_flush
were called are appropriately changed: ubi_leb_erase only flushes for the
erased LEB, and ubi_create_volume forces only flushing for its volume id.
External code can call this new feature via the new function ubi_flush() added
to kapi.c, which simply passes through to ubi_wl_flush().
This was tested by disabling the call to do_work in ubi thread, which results
in the work queue remaining unless explicitly called to remove. UBIFS was
changed to call ubifs_leb_change 50 times for four different LEBs. Then the
new function was called to clear the queue: passing wrong volume ids / lnum,
correct ones, and finally UBI_ALL for both to ensure it was finally all
cleard. The work queue was dumped each time and the selective removal
of the particular LEB numbers was observed. Extra checks were enabled and
ubifs's integck was also run. Finally, the drive was repeatedly filled and
emptied to ensure that the queue was cleared normally.

As of [mtd: nand: remove autoincrement 'sndcmd' code], the
NAND_CMD_READ0 command is issued unconditionally.
Thus, read_oob/read_oob_raw's 'sndcmd' argument is no longer needed, as
well as their return code.
Remove the 'sndcmd' parameter, and set the return code to 0.

New NAND controllers can perform read/write via HW engines which don't expose
OOB data in their DMA mode. To reflect this, we should rework the nand_chip /
nand_ecc_ctrl interfaces that assume that drivers will always read/write OOB
data in the nand_chip.oob_poi buffer. A better interface includes a boolean
argument that explicitly tells the callee when OOB data is requested by the
calling layer (for reading/writing to/from nand_chip.oob_poi).
This patch adds the 'oob_required' parameter to each relevant {read,write}_page
interface; all 'oob_required' parameters are left unused for now. The next
patch will set the parameter properly in the nand_base.c callers, and follow-up
patches will make use of 'oob_required' in some of the callee functions.
Note that currently, there is no harm in ignoring the 'oob_required' parameter
and *always* utilizing nand_chip.oob_poi, but there can be
performance/complexity/design benefits from avoiding filling oob_poi in the
common case. I will try to implement this for some drivers which can be ported
easily.
Note: I couldn't compile-test all of these easily, as some had ARCH
dependencies.

Lantiq SoCs have a External Bus Unit (EBU) that is used to attach MTD media.
As we need to co-exist with PCI on the same bus, certain swapping settings must
be applied. Similar to the NOR map driver we need to apply a fix to make NAND
work. The easiest way is to use byte reads.

The drivers' _read() method, absent an error, returns a non-negative integer
indicating the maximum number of bit errors that were corrected in any one
region comprising an ecc step. MTD returns -EUCLEAN if this is >=
bitflip_threshold, 0 otherwise. If bitflip_threshold is zero, the comparison is
not made since these devices lack ECC and always return zero in the non-error
case (thanks Brian)¹. Note that this is a subtle change to the driver
interface.
This and the preceding patches in this set were tested with ubi on top of the
nandsim and docg4 devices, running the ubi test io_basic from mtd-utils.

An element 'bitflip_threshold' is added to struct mtd_info, and also exposed as
a read/write variable in sysfs. This will be used to determine whether or not
mtd_read() returns -EUCLEAN or 0 (absent a hard error). If the driver leaves it
as zero, mtd will set it to a default value of ecc_strength.
This v2 adds the line that propagates bitflip_threshold from the master to the
partitions - thanks Ivan¹.

ecc_strength element of mtd_info will be the strength of one ecc step, not of
the entire writesize, as was previously planned. This is the appropriate way
because, as was pointed out¹, bit errors in excess of the strength of one
step can cause a hard error if they all occur within the same ecc region.

The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of
low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg.
memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that
aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()).
These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces:
(1) asm/barrier.h
Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha.
(2) asm/switch_to.h
Move switch_to() and related stuff here.
(3) asm/exec.h
Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits
could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h.
(4) asm/cmpxchg.h
Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and
frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg().
(5) asm/bug.h
Move die() and related bits.
(6) asm/auxvec.h
Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here.
Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis."
Fixed up some conflicts from other header file cleanups and moving code
around that has happened in the meantime, so David's testing is somewhat
weakened by that. We'll find out anything that got broken and fix it..

asm/system.h is a cause of circular dependency problems because it contains
commonly used primitive stuff like barrier definitions and uncommonly used
stuff like switch_to() that might require MMU definitions.
asm/system.h has been disintegrated by this point on all arches into the
following common segments:

The fsmc_nand driver uses cpu to read/write onto the device. This is inefficient
because of two reasons
- the cpu gets locked on AHB bus while reading from NAND
- the cpu is unnecessarily used when dma can do the job

The default way of accessing nand device is using the nand width. This means
that 8bit devices are using u8 * and 16bit devices are accessed using u16 *.
This results in a non-optimal performance since the FSMC is designed to
translate the normal word accesses into device width based accesses. This patch
implements read_buf and write_buf callbacks using word by word accesses.

FSMC controllers provide registers to program the required timing values for
attached NAND device. The timing values used until now are relaxed and should
work for all devices.
Although, for read/write performance improvements, the fsmc nand driver should
accept nand timings as a platform data and program the timing parameters into
fsmc registers accordingly.
This patch implements this modification. Additionally, it programs the default
timing parameters if these are not passed via platform data.

This adds 'ecc_strength' to struct mtd_info. This stores the maximum number of
bit errors that can be corrected in one writesize region.
For consistency with the nand code, 'strength' is similiarly added to struct
nand_ecc_ctrl. This stores the maximum number of bit errors that can be
corrected in one ecc step.

Adds power management code with fine granularity. Every flash control
command is enclosed by runtime_put()/get()s. To make sure that no
overhead is generated by too frequent power state switches, a quality of
service request is issued.

Address Latch Enable (ALE) and Command Latch Enable (CLE) defines are
platform specific and were wrongly put in driver specific fsmc.h file.
Move such defines to their respective platform.
Also instead of relying on fsmc driver, pass ALE, CLE offsets explicitly
from individual platform.

Add support for a new hardware generation. The meaning of some bits
of the FLCMNCR register changed, so some new defines are added
parallel to the existing ones to keep backward compatibility.

This patch changes all the OTP functions like 'mtd_get_fact_prot_info()' and
makes them return zero immediately if the input 'len' parameter is 0. This is
not really needed currently, but most of the other functions do this, and it is
just consistent to do the same in the OTP functions.
This patch also moves the OTP functions from the header file to mtdcore.c
because they become a bit too big for being inlined.

The 'mtd_unpoint()' API function should be able to return an error code because
it may fail if you specify incorrect offset. This patch changes this MTD API
function and amends all the drivers correspondingly.
Also return '-EOPNOTSUPP' from 'mtd_unpoint()' when the '->unpoint()' method is
undefined. We do not really need this currently, but this just makes
sense to be consistent with 'mtd_point()'.

Currently, the flash-based BBT implementation writes bad block data only
to its flash-based table and not to the OOB marker area. Then, as new bad
blocks are marked over time, the OOB markers become incomplete and the
flash-based table becomes the only source of current bad block
information. This becomes an obvious problem when, for example:
* bootloader cannot read the flash-based BBT format
* BBT is corrupted and the flash must be rescanned for bad
blocks; we want to remember bad blocks that were marked from Linux
So to keep the bad block markers in sync with the flash-based BBT, this
patch changes the default so that we write bad block markers to the proper
OOB area on each block in addition to flash-based BBT. Comments are
updated, expanded, and/or relocated as necessary.
The new flash-based BBT procedure for marking bad blocks:
(1) erase the affected block, to allow OOB marker to be written cleanly
(2) update in-memory BBT
(3) write bad block marker to OOB area of affected block
(4) update flash-based BBT
Note that we retain the first error encountered in (3) or (4), finish the
procedures, and dump the error in the end.
This should handle power cuts gracefully enough. (1) and (2) are mostly
harmless (note that (1) will not erase an already-recognized bad block).
The OOB and BBT may be "out of sync" if we experience power loss bewteen
(3) and (4), but we can reasonably expect that on next boot, subsequent
I/O operations will discover that the block should be marked bad again,
thus re-syncing the OOB and BBT.
Note that this is a change from the previous default flash-based BBT
behavior. If your system cannot support writing bad block markers to OOB,
use the new NAND_BBT_NO_OOB_BBM option (in combination with
NAND_BBT_USE_FLASH and NAND_BBT_NO_OOB).

This patch renames all MTD functions by adding a "_" prefix:
mtd->erase -> mtd->_erase
mtd->read_oob -> mtd->_read_oob
...
The reason is that we are re-working the MTD API and from now on it is
an error to use MTD function pointers directly - we have a corresponding
API call for every pointer. By adding a leading "_" we achieve the following:
1. Make sure we convert every direct pointer users
2. A leading "_" suggests that this interface is internal and it becomes
less likely that people will use them directly
3. Make sure all the out-of-tree modules stop compiling and the owners
spot the big API change and amend them.

SPEAr platforms (spear3xx/spear6xx/spear13xx) provide SMI (Serial Memory
Interface) controller to access serial NOR flash. SMI provides a simple
interface for SPI/serial NOR flashes and has certain inbuilt commands
and features to support these flashes easily. It also makes it possible
to map an address range in order to directly access (read/write) the SNOR
over address bus. This patch intends to provide serial nor driver support
for spear platforms which are accessed through SMI.

Because it is useless to call it if the device is opened in R/O mode, and also
harmful: on CFI NOR flash it may block for long time waiting for erase
operations to complete is another partition with a R/W file-system on this
chip.

If a header file is making use of BUG, BUG_ON, BUILD_BUG_ON, or any
other BUG variant in a static inline (i.e. not in a #define) then
that header really should be including <linux/bug.h> and not just
expecting it to be implicitly present.
We can make this change risk-free, since if the files using these
headers didn't have exposure to linux/bug.h already, they would have
been causing compile failures/warnings.

This patch fixes merge conflict resolution breakage introduced by merge
d3712b9dfc ("Merge tag 'for-linus' of git://github.com/prasad-joshi/logfs_upstream").
The commit changed 'mtd_can_have_bb()' function and made it always
return zero, which is incorrect. Instead, we need it to return whether
the underlying flash device can have bad eraseblocks or not. UBI needs
this information because it affects how it handles the underlying flash.
E.g., if the underlying flash is NOR, it cannot have bad blocks and any
write or erase error is fatal, and all we can do is to switch to R/O
mode. We do not need to reserve a pool of good eraseblocks for bad
eraseblocks handling, and so on.
This patch also removes 'mtd_can_have_bb()' invocations from Logfs to
ensure correct Logfs behavior.
I've tested that with this patch UBI works on top of NOR and NAND
flashes emulated by mtdram and nandsim correspondingly.

"mtd->block_isbad" means in commit f2933e86ad: "Logfs: Allow NULL
block_isbad() methods" clashing with the abstraction changes in the
commits 7086c19d07: "mtd: introduce mtd_block_isbad interface" and
d58b27ed58: "logfs: do not use 'mtd->block_isbad' directly".
This resolution takes the semantics from commit f2933e86ad, and just
makes mtd_block_isbad() return zero (false) if the 'block_isbad'
function is NULL. But that also means that now "mtd_can_have_bb()"
always returns 0.
Now, "mtd_block_markbad()" will obviously return an error if the
low-level driver doesn't support bad blocks, so this is somewhat
non-symmetric, but it actually makes sense if a NULL "block_isbad"
function is considered to mean "I assume that all my blocks are always
good".

079c985e7a broke MTD suspend in 2 ways:
1. When the '->suspend' method is not present, we return -EOPNOTSUPP, but
the callers of 'mtd_suspend()' expects 0 instead.
2. Checking of the 'mtd' parameter against NULL has been incorrectly removed
in 'mtd_cls_suspend()'.
This patch fixes the breakages. This has been found, analyzed, reported
and tested by Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl>.
Note, this patch is not needed in the stable tree because it causes a

This patch makes the 'mtd_writev()' function more usable and logical. We first
teach it to fall-back to the 'default_mtd_writev()' function if the MTD driver
does not define its own '->writev()' method. Then we make block2mtd and JFFS2
just 'mtd_writev()' instead of 'default_mtd_writev()' function. This means we
can now stop exporting 'default_mtd_writev()' and instead, export
'mtd_writev()'. This is much cleaner and more logical, as well as allows us to
get read of another direct 'mtd->writev' access in JFFS2.

We are working in the direction of making sure that MTD clients to not
use 'mtd->func' pointers directly. In some places we want to know if
OOB operations are supported by an MTD device. Introduce 'mtd_has_oob()'
helper for these purposes.

This patch is part of a patch-set which changes the MTD interface
from 'mtd->func()' form to 'mtd_func()' form. We need this because
we want to add common code to to all drivers in the mtd core level,
which is impossible with the current interface when MTD clients
call driver functions like 'read()' or 'write()' directly.
At this point we just introduce a new inline wrapper function, but
later some of them are expected to gain more code. E.g., the input
parameters check should be moved to the wrappers rather than be
duplicated at many drivers.
This particular patch introduced the 'mtd_erase()' interface. The
following patches add all the other interfaces one by one.

This patch allows each CFI device map to use its own endianness. The
globally defined CFI endianness (CONFIG_MTD_CFI_NOSWAP,
CONFIG_MTD_CFI_BE_BYTE_SWAP or CONFIG_MTD_CFI_LE_BYTE_SWAP) becomes the
default value which can be overridden by a driver for a particular device.

add_mtd_partitions -> mtd_device_register vs changed to use
mtd_device_parse_register.
The <linux/module.h> pretty much brings in the kitchen sink along
with it, so it should be avoided wherever reasonably possible in
terms of being included from other commonly used <linux/something.h>
files, as it results in a measureable increase on compile times.
The worst culprit was probably device.h since it is used everywhere.
This file also had an implicit dependency/usage of mutex.h which was
masked by module.h, and is also fixed here at the same time.
There are over a dozen other headers that simply declare the
struct instead of pulling in the whole file, so follow their lead
and simply make it a few more.
Most of the implicit dependencies on module.h being present by
these headers pulling it in have been now weeded out, so we can
finally make this change with hopefully minimal breakage.

no particular reason. Every time it is used, it could just as easily be
replaced with a local struct that is updated on each operation. So make
it local.

These modes are not necessarily for OOB only. Particularly, MTD_OOB_RAW
affected operations on in-band page data as well. To clarify these

This fixes issues with `nanddump -n' and the MEMREADOOB[64] ioctls on
hardware that performs error correction when reading only OOB data. A
driver for such hardware needs to know when we're doing a RAW vs. a
normal write, but mtd_do_read_oob does not pass such information to the
lower layers (e.g., NAND). We should pass MTD_OOB_RAW or MTD_OOB_PLACE
based on the MTD file mode.
For now, most drivers can get away with just setting:
chip->ecc.read_oob_raw = chip->ecc.read_oob
This is done by default; but for systems that behave as described above,
you must supply your own replacement function.
This was tested with nandsim as well as on actual SLC NAND.

This fixes issues with `nandwrite -n -o' and the MEMWRITEOOB[64] ioctls
on hardware that writes ECC when writing OOB. The problem arises as
follows: `nandwrite -n' can write page data to flash without applying
ECC, but when used with the `-o' option, ECC is applied (incorrectly),
contrary to the `--noecc' option.
I found that this is the case because my hardware computes and writes
ECC data to flash upon either OOB write or page write. Thus, to support
a proper "no ECC" write, my driver must know when we're performing a raw
OOB write vs. a normal ECC OOB write. However, MTD does not pass any raw
mode information to the write_oob functions. This patch addresses the
problems by:
1) Passing MTD_OOB_RAW down to lower layers, instead of just defaulting
to MTD_OOB_PLACE
2) Handling MTD_OOB_RAW within the NAND layer's `nand_do_write_oob'
3) Adding a new (replaceable) function pointer in struct ecc_ctrl; this
function should support writing OOB without ECC data. Current
hardware often can use the same OOB write function when writing
either with or without ECC
This was tested with nandsim as well as on actual SLC NAND.

Lots (nearly all) mtd drivers contain nearly the similar code that
calls parse_mtd_partitions, provides some platform-default values, if
parsing fails, and registers mtd device.
This is an aim to provide single implementation of this scenario:
mtd_device_parse_register() which will handle all this parsing and
defaults.

Add support for MTDPART_OFS_RETAIN: such partitions start at the current
offset, take as much space as possible, but rain part->size bytes after
the end of the partitions for other parts. Primarily this is intended
for ts72xx arm platforms cleanup.

This patch works with the following three flags from two headers (nand.h
and bbm.h):
(1) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (nand.h)
(2) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (nand.h)
(3) NAND_BBT_NO_OOB (bbm.h)
These flags are all related and interdependent, yet they were in
different headers. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and
can be eliminated.
This patch accomplishes the following:
* eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2))
* move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h
It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in
bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field.
I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to
NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h.

This patch handles the problems we've been having with using conflicting
flags from nand.h and bbm.h in the same nand_chip.options field. We
should try to separate these two spaces a little more clearly, and so I
have added a bbt_options field to nand_chip.
Important notes about nand_chip fields:
* bbt_options field should contain ONLY flags from bbm.h. They should be
able to pass safely to a nand_bbt_descr data structure.
- BBT option flags start with the "NAND_BBT_" prefix.
* options field should contian ONLY flags from nand.h. Ideally, they
should not be involved in any BBT related options.
- NAND chip option flags start with the "NAND_" prefix.
* Every flag should have a nice comment explaining what the flag is. While
this is not yet the case on all existing flags, please be sure to write
one for new flags. Even better, you can help document the code better
yourself!
Please try to follow these conventions to make everyone's lives easier.
Among the flags that are being moved to the new bbt_options field
throughout various drivers, etc. are:
* NAND_BBT_SCANLASTPAGE
* NAND_BBT_SCAN2NDPAGE
and there will be more to come.

the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag, although technically valid, can break
some existing ECC layouts that use the 6th byte in the OOB for ECC data.
Furthermore, we apparently do not need to scan both bytes 1 and 6 in
the OOB region of the devices under consideration; instead, we only need
to scan one or the other.
Thus, the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag is at best unnecessary and at
worst a regression.

To prepare for the removal of add_mtd_device and add_mtd_partitions(),
introduce mtd_device_register(). This will create partitions if they
are supplied or register the whole device if there are no partitions.
Once all drivers are converted to use mtd_device_register(),
add_mtd_device() and add_mtd_partitions() will be made internal only.

Introduce a common function to handle large, contiguous kmalloc buffer
allocations by exponentially backing off on the size of the requested
kernel transfer buffer until it succeeds or until the requested
transfer buffer size falls below the page size.
This helps ensure the operation can succeed under low-memory, highly-
fragmented situations albeit somewhat more slowly.
Artem: so this patch solves the problem that the kernel tries to kmalloc too
large buffers, which (a) may fail and does fail - people complain about this,
and (b) slows down the system in case of high memory fragmentation, because
the kernel starts dropping caches, writing back, swapping, etc. But we do not
really have to allocate a lot of memory to do the I/O, we may do this even with
as little as one min. I/O unit (NAND page) of RAM. So the idea of this patch is
that if the user asks to read or write a lot, we try to kmalloc a lot, with GFP
flags which make the kernel _not_ drop caches, etc. If we can allocate it - good,
if not - we try to allocate twice as less, and so on, until we reach the min.
I/O unit size, which is our last resort allocation and use the normal
GFP_KERNEL flag.
Artem: re-write the allocation function so that it makes sure the allocated
buffer is aligned to the min. I/O size of the flash.

The NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB and NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT flags conflict
with the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 and NAND_BBT_DYNAMICSTRUCT flags,
respectively. This change will allow us to utilize these options
independently.

The set_vpp() method provided by physmap passes a map_info back to
the platform code, which has little relevance as far as the platform
is concerned (this parameter is completely unused).
Instead, pass the platform_device, which can be used in the pismo
driver to retrieve some important information in a nicer way, instead
of the hack that was in place.
The empty set_vpp function in board-at572d940hf_ek.c is left untouched,
as the board/SoC is scheduled for removal.

In the process of moving platforms away from integrator-flash
(aka armflash), add to physmap the few features that make
armflash unique:
- optionnal probing for the AFS partition type
- init() and exit() methods, used by Integrator to control

This merge commit was created to fix compilation error. The block
tree was merged upstream and removed the 'elv_queue_empty()'
function which the new 'mtdswap' driver is using. So a simple
merge of the mtd tree with upstream does not compile. And the
mtd tree has already be published, so re-basing it is not an option.
To fix this unfortunate situation, I had to merge upstream into the
mtd-2.6.git tree without committing, put the fixup patch on top of
this, and then commit this. The result is that we do not have commits
which do not compile.
In other words, this merge commit "merges" 3 things: the MTD tree, the
upstream tree, and the fixup patch.

This patch adds software BCH ECC support to mtd, in order to handle recent
NAND device ecc requirements (4 bits or more).
It does so by adding a new ecc mode (NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH) for use by board
drivers, and a new Kconfig option to enable BCH support. It relies on the
generic BCH library introduced in a previous patch.
When a board driver uses mode NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH, it should also set fields
chip->ecc.size and chip->ecc.bytes to select BCH ecc data size and required
error correction capability. See nand_bch_init() documentation for details.
It has been tested on the following platforms using mtd-utils, UBI and
UBIFS: x86 (with nandsim), arm926ejs.

OMAP-L137/AM17x has limited number of dedicated EMIFA
address pins, enough to interface directly to an SDRAM.
If a device such as an asynchronous flash needs to be
attached to the EMIFA, then either GPIO pins or a chip
select may be used to control the flash device's upper
address lines.
This patch adds support for the NOR flash on the OMAP-L137/
AM17x user interface daughter board using the latch-addr-flash
MTD mapping driver which allows flashes to be partially
physically addressed. The upper address lines are set by
a board specific code which is a separate patch.

Add a new background method into mtd_blktrans_ops, add background support
into mtd_blktrans_thread(), and add mtd_blktrans_cease_background().
If the mtd blktrans dev has the background support, the thread will
call background function when the request queue becomes empty. The background
operation may run as long as needs to until
mtd_blktrans_cease_background() tells to stop.

Provide the LEB offset information in the UBI device information data
structure. This piece of information is required by UBIFS to find out
what are the LEB offsets which are aligned to the max. write size.
If LEB offset not aligned to max. write size, then UBIFS has to take
this into account to write more optimally.

104MHz needs a latency of 8 clock cycles and the VHF
flag must be set. Also t_rdyo is specified as
"not applicable" so pick a lower value, and force at
least 1 clk between AVD High to OE Low.

This field will be used to indicate the write buffer size
of the MTD device. UBI will set it's minimal I/O unit size
(min_io_size) to the indicated write buffer size. By this
change we intend to fix failed recovery of UBIFS partitions
we currently observe on NOR flash when mounting the partition
after unclean unmount.
Currently the min_io_size is set to mtd->writesize (which is 1
byte for NOR flash). But flash programming is often done from
prepared write buffer containing multiple bytes and is performed
in one programming operation which could be interrupted by a power
cut or a system reset causing corrupted (partially written) areas
in a flash sector. Knowing the size of potentially corrupted areas
UBIFS scanning and recovery algorithms are able to perform
successful recovery.
In case of NOR flash minimal I/O size must be equal to the
maximal size of the write buffer used by embedded flash
programming algorithm. In case of NAND flash mtd->writebufsize
should be equivalent to mtd->writesize.
The subsequent patches will add mtd->writebufsize initialization
where needed.

The FSMC actually has a standard ARM PrimeCell ID register, and
the "revision" part of that register contains the thing that
the code is looking at. Reuse the infrastructure from the AMBA
bus abstraction and rid local defines.

Function mtd_has_master renamed as mtd_is_partition to follow the function logic.
The patch fixes the problem of checking the right mtd device for partition creation.
To delete partition checking is not needed here so as it is done in mtd_del_partition.
By master we consider the mtd device which does not belong to any partition.

it will create an empty BBT table without considering vendor's BBT

The first (sixt) byte in the OOB area contains vendor's bad block
information. During identification of the NAND chip this information is
collected by scanning the complete chip.
The option NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT is used to store this information in a sector so
we don't have to scan the complete flash. Unfortunately the code stores
a marker in order to recognize the BBT in the OOB area. This will fail
if the OOB area is completely used for ECC.
This patch introduces the option NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB which has to be
used with NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT. It will then store BBT on flash without
touching the OOB area. The BBT format on flash remains same except the
first page starts with the recognition pattern followed by the version byte.
This change was tested in nandsim and it looks good so far :)

Not all the NAND devices have all the information in additional
id bytes.
So add a hook in the nand_chip{} is a good method to calculate the
right value of oobsize, erasesize and so on.
Without the hook,you will get the wrong value, and you have to hack
in the ->scan_bbt() to change the wrong value which make the code
mess.

This patch adds support for reading NAND device ONFI parameters and use
the ONFI informations to define its geometry. In case the device supports
ONFI, the onfi_version field in struct nand_chip contains the version (BCD)
and the onfi_params structure can be used by drivers to set up timings and
such. We currently only support ONFI 1.0 parameters.

There were some improvements and additions necessary in the
comments explaining of the expansion of nand_ecclayout, the
introduction of nand_ecclayout_user, and the deprecation of the
ioctl ECCGETLAYOUT.
Also, I found a better placement for the macro MTD_MAX_ECCPOS_ENTRIES;
next to the definition of MTD_MAX_OOBFREE_ENTRIES in mtd-abi.h. The macro
is really only important for the ioctl code (found in drivers/mtd/mtdchar.c)
but since there are small edits being made to the user-space header, I
figured this is a better location.

struct nand_ecclayout is too small for many new chips; OOB regions can be as
large as 448 bytes and may increase more in the future. Thus, copying that
struct to user-space with the ECCGETLAYOUT ioctl is not a good idea; the ioctl
would have to be updated every time there's a change to the current largest
size.
Instead, the old nand_ecclayout is renamed to nand_ecclayout_user and a
new struct nand_ecclayout is created that can accomodate larger sizes and
expand without affecting the user-space. struct nand_ecclayout can still
be used in board drivers without modification -- at least for now.
A new function is provided to convert from the new to the old in order to
allow the deprecated ioctl to continue to work with truncated data. Perhaps
the ioctl, the conversion process, and the struct nand_ecclayout_user can be
removed altogether in the future.
Note: There are comments in nand/davinci_nand.c::nand_davinci_probe()
regarding this issue; this driver (and maybe others) can be updated to
account for extra space. All kernel drivers can use the expanded
nand_ecclayout as a drop-in replacement and ignore its benefits.

There are three reasons to add this support:
1. users probably know the interface type of their flashs, then probe
can be faster if they give the right type in platform data since wrong
types will not be detected.
2. sometimes, detecting can cause destory to system. For example, for
kernel XIP, detecting can cause NOR enter a mode instructions can not
be fetched right, which will make kernel crash.
3. For a new probe which is not listed in the rom_probe_types, if users
assign it in board files, physmap can still probe it.

This patch prevent to schedule while atomic by changing the
flchip_shared spinlock into a mutex. This should be save since no atomic
path will use this lock.

To use this feature, introduce the chip_probe function.

Added new flag for scanning of both bytes 1 and 6 of the OOB for
a BB marker (instead of simply one or the other).
The "check_pattern" and "check_short_pattern" functions were updated
to include support for scanning the two different locations in the OOB.
In order to handle increases in variety of necessary scanning patterns,
I implemented dynamic memory allocation of nand_bbt_descr structs
in new function 'nand_create_default_bbt_descr()'. This replaces
some increasingly-unwieldy, statically-declared descriptors. It can
replace several more (e.g. "flashbased" structs). However, I do not
test the flashbased options personally.
How this was tested:
I referenced 30+ data sheets (covering 100+ parts), and I tested a
selection of 10 different chips to varying degrees. Particularly, I
tested the creation of bad-block descriptors and basic BB scanning on
three parts:
ST NAND04GW3B2D, 2K page
ST NAND128W3A, 512B page
Samsung K9F1G08U0A, 2K page
To test these, I wrote some fake bad block markers to the flash (in OOB
bytes 1, 6, and elsewhere) to see if the scanning routine would detect
them properly. However, this method was somewhat limited because the
driver I am using has some bugs in its OOB write functionality.

NAND_BB_LAST_PAGE used to be in nand.h, but it pertained to bad block
management and so belongs next to NAND_BBT_SCAN2NDPAGE in bbm.h. Also,
its previous flag value (0x00000400) conflicted with NAND_BBT_SCANALLPAGES
so I changed its value to 0x00008000. All uses of the name were modified to
provide consistency with other "NAND_BBT_*" flags.

marker in the LAST page of the bad block rather than the FIRST page used
for SLC NAND and other types of MLC nand.

All device locations are erased(FFh) except locations where the initial
invalid block(s) information is written prior to shipping. The initial

non-FFh data at the column address of 2,048.

As far as I can tell, this is the same for all Samsung MLC nand, and in
fact the samsung bsp for the processor used in our project (s3c6410)
actually contained a hack similar to this patch but less portable to
enable use of their NAND parts. I discovered this problem when trying to
use a Micron NAND which does not used this layout - I wish samsung would
put their stuff in main-line to avoid this type of problem.
Currently this patch causes all MLC nand with manufacturer codes from
Samsung and ST(Numonyx) to use this alternative location, since these
are the manufactures that I know of that use this layout.

Some of the newer MLC devices have a 6-byte ID sequence in which
several field definitions differ from older chips in a manner that is
not backward compatible. For instance:
Samsung K9GAG08U0M (5-byte sequence): ec d5 14 b6 74
4th byte, bits 1:0 encode the page size: 0=1KiB, 1=2KiB, 2=4KiB, 3=8KiB
4th byte, bits 5:4 encode the block size: 0=64KiB, 1=128KiB, ...
4th byte, bit 6 encodes the OOB size: 0=8B/512B, 1=16B/512B
Samsung K9GAG08U0D (6-byte sequence): ec d5 94 29 34 41
4th byte, bits 1:0 encode the page size: 0=2KiB, 1=4KiB, 3=8KiB, 4=rsvd
4th byte, bits 7;5:4 encode the block size: 0=128KiB, 1=256KiB, ...
4th byte, bits 6;3:2 encode the OOB size: 1=128B/page, 2=218B/page
This patch uses the new 6-byte scheme if the following conditions are
all true:
1) The ID code wraps around after exactly 6 bytes
2) Manufacturer is Samsung
3) 6th byte is zero
The patch also extends the maximum OOB size from 128B to 256B.

The use of a memcpy() during a spinlock operation will cause very long
thread context switch delays if the flash chip bandwidth is low and the
data to be copied large, because a spinlock will disable preemption.
For example: A flash with 6,5 MB/s bandwidth will cause under ubifs,
which request sometimes 128 KiB (the flash erase size), a preemption delay of
20 milliseconds. High priority threads will not be served during this
time, regardless whether this threads access the flash or not. This behavior
breaks real time.
The patch changes all the use of spin_lock operations for xxxx->mutex
into mutex operations, which is exact what the name says and means.
I have checked the code of the drivers and there is no use of atomic
pathes like interrupt or timers. The mtdoops facility will also not be used
by this drivers. So it is dave to replace the spin_lock against mutex.
There is no performance regression since the mutex is normally not
acquired.

This changes the behavier of MTD_OOB_RAW. It used to read both OOB and
data to the data buffer, however you would still need to specify the
dummy oob buffer.
This is only used in one place, but makes it hard to read data+oob
without ECC test, thus I removed that behavier, and fixed the user.
Now MTD_OOB_RAW behaves just like MTD_OOB_PLACE, but doesn't do ECC
validation

deadlock; instead do that in add_mtd_blktrans_dev.
* Only free the mtd_blktrans_dev structure when the last user exits.
* Flush request queue on device removal.
* Track users, and call tr->release in del_mtd_blktrans_dev
Due to that ->open and release aren't called more that once.
Now it is safe to call del_mtd_blktrans_dev while the device is still in use.

In the inline function cfi_build_cmd_addr, the cast of cmd_ofs to an
uint8_t produces a sparse warning of the type:
warning: cast truncates bits from constant value (2aa becomes aa)
Quiet the warning by masking cmd_ofs with 0xff and remove the cast.

The following patch adds support for PISMO modules found on ARM Ltd
development platforms. These are MTD modules, and can have a
selection of SRAM, flash or DOC devices as described by an on-board
I2C EEPROM.
We support SRAM and NOR flash devices only by registering appropriate
conventional MTD platform devices as children of the 'pismo' device.

Add NAND_SCAN_SILENT_NODEV to chip->options to the user-worrying messages
'No NAND device found!!!'. This message often worries users (was three
exclamation marks really necessary?) and especially in systems such as the
Simtec Osiris where there may be optional NAND devices which are not
known until probe time.
Revised version of the original NAND_PROBE_SPECULATIVE patch after comments
by Artem Bityutskiy about adding a whole new call.

Add support for multiblock erase command. OneNANDs (excluding Flex-OneNAND)
are capable of simultaneous erase of up to 64 eraseblocks which is much faster.
This changes the erase requests for regions covering multiple eraseblocks
to be performed using multiblock erase.

What is OTP in OneNAND?
The device includes,
1. one block-sized OTP (One Time Programmable) area and
2. user-controlled 1st block OTP(Block 0)
that can be used to increase system security or to provide
identification capabilities.
What is done?
In OneNAND, one block of the NAND Array is set aside as an OTP
memory area, and 1st Block (Block 0) can be used as OTP area.
This area, available to the user, can be configured and locked
with secured user information. The OTP block can be read,
programmed and locked using the same operations as any other NAND
Flash Array memory block. After issuing an OTP-Lock, OTP block
cannot be erased. OTP block is fully-guaranteed to be a good
block.
Why it is done?
Locking the 1st Block OTP has the effect of a 'Write-protect' to
guard against accidental re-programming of data stored in the 1st
block and OTP Block.
Which problem it solves?
OTP support is provided in the existing implementation of
OneNAND/Flex-OneNAND driver, but it is not working with OneNAND
devices. Have observed the following in current OTP OneNAND Implmentation,
1. DataSheet specific sequence to lock the OTP Area is not followed.
2. Certain functions are quiet generic to cope with OTP specific activity.
This patch re-implements OTP support for OneNAND device.
How it is done?
For all blocks, 8th word is available to the user.
However, in case of OTP Block, 8th word of sector 0, page 0 is reserved as
OTP Locking Bit area. Therefore, in case of OTP Block, user usage on this
area is prohibited. Condition specific values are entered in the 8th word,
sector0, page 0 of the OTP block during the process of issuing an OTP-Lock.
The possible conditions are:
1. Only 1st Block Lock
2. Only OTP Block Lock
3. Lock both the 1st Block and the OTP Block

Add an 'ubi_open_volume_path(path, mode)' function which works like
'open_bdev_exclusive(path, mode, ...)' where path is the special file
representing the UBI volume, typically /dev/ubi0_0.

nand.h, onenand.h and flashchip.h defined enumeration types
for chip status using the same symbolic names. This prevented
a board file to include more than one of them. In particular,
no nand and onenand platform devices could live in the same file.
This patch augments flashchip.h with a few status values in order
to cover all cases, so nand.h and onenand.h can use flstate_t
without declaring their own status enum.
