Au1x00/RT2800+ hardware has an alternate register layout which is
remapped with lookup tables by the au_serial_in()/out() i/o accessors.
However, the h/w does not support the complete 8250 register set, and
accesses to unmapped registers cause out-of-bounds lookups. Further,
because the lookup tables are defined by designated initializers, the
tables may contain unmapped entries (although the current tables do not).
Declare fixed-size lookup tables with contiguous initialization for
the complete 8250 register map; unmapped registers are initialized to -1.
Validate the register index (ie., 'offset') is in the range [0, table size).
Return fixed value for unmapped register reads and ignore unmapped register
writes.

The probe for Remote Supervisor Adapter is limited to port i/o
addresses which match one of the probe_rsa[] module parameter
addresses. Limit RSA resource acquire to matching i/o ports.
The result is a saner probe policy: only perform optional probes
when specified rather than by default.
NB: It is possible for userspace to set the port type == PORT_RSA
with ioctl(TIOCSSERIAL) and then autoconfig with ioctl(TIOCSERCONFIG),
which if it fails, may leave the port type set to PORT_RSA. Since
this may have previously resulted in a working RSA port, this behavior

Earlycon matching can only be triggered if 'earlycon=...' has been
specified on the kernel command line. To workaround this limitation
requires tight coupling between arches and specific serial drivers
in order to start an earlycon. Devicetree avoids this limitation
with a link table that contains the required data to match earlycons.
Mirror this approach for earlycon match by name. Re-purpose
EARLYCON_DECLARE to generate a table entry which associates name with
setup() function. Re-purpose setup_earlycon() to scan this table for
an earlycon match, which is registered if found.
Declare one "earlycon" early_param, which calls setup_earlycon().
This design allows setup_earlycon() to be called directly with a
param string (as if 'earlycon=...' had been set on the command line).
Re-registration (either directly or by early_param) is prevented.

Workqueues are used extensively throughout the kernel but sometimes
it's difficult to debug stalls involving work items because visibility
into its inner workings is fairly limited. Although sysrq-t task dump
annotates each active worker task with the information on the work
item being executed, it is challenging to find out which work items
are pending or delayed on which queues and how pools are being
managed.
This patch implements show_workqueue_state() which dumps all busy
workqueues and pools and is called from the sysrq-t handler. At the
end of sysrq-t dump, something like the following is printed.
Showing busy workqueues and worker pools:
...
workqueue filler_wq: flags=0x0
pwq 2: cpus=1 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=0 active=2/256
in-flight: 491:filler_workfn, 507:filler_workfn
pwq 0: cpus=0 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=0 active=2/256
in-flight: 501:filler_workfn
pending: filler_workfn
...
workqueue test_wq: flags=0x8
pwq 2: cpus=1 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=0 active=1/1
in-flight: 510(RESCUER):test_workfn BAR(69) BAR(500)
delayed: test_workfn1 BAR(492), test_workfn2
...
pool 0: cpus=0 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=0 workers=2 manager: 137
pool 2: cpus=1 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=0 workers=3 manager: 469
pool 3: cpus=1 node=0 flags=0x0 nice=-20 workers=2 idle: 16
pool 8: cpus=0-3 flags=0x4 nice=0 workers=2 manager: 62
The above shows that test_wq is executing test_workfn() on pid 510
which is the rescuer and also that there are two tasks 69 and 500
waiting for the work item to finish in flush_work(). As test_wq has
max_active of 1, there are two work items for test_workfn1() and
test_workfn2() which are delayed till the current work item is
finished. In addition, pid 492 is flushing test_workfn1().
The work item for test_workfn() is being executed on pwq of pool 2
which is the normal priority per-cpu pool for CPU 1. The pool has
three workers, two of which are executing filler_workfn() for
filler_wq and the last one is assuming the manager role trying to
create more workers.
This extra workqueue state dump will hopefully help chasing down hangs
involving workqueues.

atmel serial ports according to the property in device trees.
If DMA or PDC is not set or something goes wrong in getting property,
the work manner will switch to general PIO mode, thus there will
not be any failure case in this function. It's actually a procedure.
So changing the return type from int to void.

Fix a race condition that happens when device_initcall(pl011_dma_initicall)
is executed before all the devices have been probed - this issue was observed on
a hisi_6220 SoC (HiKey board from Linaro).
The deferred driver probing framework relies on late_initcall to trigger
deferred probes so it is just possible that, even with a valid DMA driver ready
to be loaded, we fail to synchronize with it.
The proposed implementation delays probing the DMA until dma_startup.
As this is invoked on port startup and port resume - but DMA probing is only
required once - we avoid calling multiple times using a new field in
uart_amba_port to track this scenario.
This commit allows for subsequent attempts to associate an external DMA if the
DMA driver itself is not available (but present in the deferred probe pending
list).

Getting the TX IRQ re-asserted from scratch can be inefficient in
some setups.
This patch avoids clearing the TX IRQ across pl011_shutdown()...
pl011_startup(), so that if the port is closed and reopened, the
IRQ will still work afterwards without having to bootstrap it again.
The TX IRQ continues to be masked in IMSC when the UART is not in
use.

The current PL011 driver transmits a dummy character when the UART
is opened, to assert the TX IRQ for the first time
(see pl011_startup()). The UART is put in loopback mode temporarily,
so the receiver presumably shouldn't see anything.
However...
At least some platforms containing a PL011 send characters down the
wire even when loopback mode is enabled. This means that a
spurious NUL character may be seen at the receiver when the PL011 is
opened through the TTY layer.
The current code also temporarily sets the baud rate to maximum and
the character width to the minimum, to that the dummy TX completes
as quickly as possible. If this is seen by the receiver it will
result in a framing error and can knock the receiver out of sync --
turning subsequent output into garbage until synchronisation
is reestablished. (Particularly problematic during boot with systemd.)
To avoid spurious transmissions, this patch removes assumptions about
whether the TX IRQ will fire until at least one TX IRQ has been seen.
Instead, the UART will unmask the TX IRQ and then slow-start via
polling and timer-based soft IRQs initially. If the TTY layer writes
enough data to fill the FIFO to the interrupt threshold in one go,
the TX IRQ should assert, at which point the driver changes to
fully interrupt-driven TX.
In this way, the TX IRQ is activated as a side-effect instead of
being done deliberately.
This should also mean that the driver works on the SBSA Generic
UART[1] (a cut-down PL011) without invasive changes. The Generic
UART lacks some features needed for the dummy TX approach to work
(FIFO disabling and loopback).

Currently tty_wait_until_sent may take up to twice as long as the
requested timeout while waiting for driver and hardware buffers to
drain.
Fix this by taking the remaining number of jiffies after waiting for
driver buffers to drain into account so that the timeout actually
becomes a maximum timeout as it is documented to be.
Note that this specifically implies tighter timings when closing a port
as a consequence of actually honouring the port closing-wait setting
for drivers relying on tty_wait_until_sent_from_close (e.g. via
tty_port_close_start).

Fix overflow bug in tty_wait_until_sent on 64-bit machines, where an
infinite timeout (0) would be passed to the underlying tty-driver's
wait_until_sent-operation as a negative timeout (-1), causing it to
return immediately.
This manifests itself for example as tcdrain() returning immediately,
drivers not honouring the drain flags when setting terminal attributes,
or even dropped data on close as a requested infinite closing-wait
timeout would be ignored.
The first symptom was reported by Asier LLANO who noted that tcdrain()
returned prematurely when using the ftdi_sio usb-serial driver.
Fix this by passing 0 rather than MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT (LONG_MAX) to the
underlying tty driver.
Note that the serial-core wait_until_sent-implementation is not affected
by this bug due to a lucky chance (comparison to an unsigned maximum
timeout), and neither is the cyclades one that had an explicit check for
negative timeouts, but all other tty drivers appear to be affected.

But it still misses one point. As John Paul correctly points out, we
do not care about setting date. If somebody ever changes wall
time backwards (by mistake for example), tty timestamps are never
updated until the original wall time passes.
So check the absolute difference of times and if it large than "8
seconds or so", always update the time. That means we will update
immediatelly when changing time. Ergo, CAP_SYS_TIME can foul the
check, but it was always that way.

It is possible that if modem control signalling is enabled on a port

driver can hang indefinitely waiting for the state to change. The new
DT properties allow the driver to ignore the state of these pins on
serial ports that don't support them, as recommended in the kernel

Commit 5695be142e ("OOM, PM: OOM killed task shouldn't escape PM
suspend") has left a race window when OOM killer manages to
note_oom_kill after freeze_processes checks the counter. The race
window is quite small and really unlikely and partial solution deemed
sufficient at the time of submission.
Tejun wasn't happy about this partial solution though and insisted on a
full solution. That requires the full OOM and freezer's task freezing
exclusion, though. This is done by this patch which introduces oom_sem
RW lock and turns oom_killer_disable() into a full OOM barrier.
oom_killer_disabled check is moved from the allocation path to the OOM
level and we take oom_sem for reading for both the check and the whole
OOM invocation.
oom_killer_disable() takes oom_sem for writing so it waits for all
currently running OOM killer invocations. Then it disable all the further
OOMs by setting oom_killer_disabled and checks for any oom victims.
Victims are counted via mark_tsk_oom_victim resp. unmark_oom_victim. The
last victim wakes up all waiters enqueued by oom_killer_disable().
Therefore this function acts as the full OOM barrier.
The page fault path is covered now as well although it was assumed to be
safe before. As per Tejun, "We used to have freezing points deep in file
system code which may be reacheable from page fault." so it would be
better and more robust to not rely on freezing points here. Same applies
to the memcg OOM killer.
out_of_memory tells the caller whether the OOM was allowed to trigger and
the callers are supposed to handle the situation. The page allocation
path simply fails the allocation same as before. The page fault path will
retry the fault (more on that later) and Sysrq OOM trigger will simply
complain to the log.
Normally there wouldn't be any unfrozen user tasks after
try_to_freeze_tasks so the function will not block. But if there was an
OOM killer racing with try_to_freeze_tasks and the OOM victim didn't
finish yet then we have to wait for it. This should complete in a finite
time, though, because
- the victim cannot loop in the page fault handler (it would die
on the way out from the exception)
- it cannot loop in the page allocator because all the further
allocation would fail and __GFP_NOFAIL allocations are not
acceptable at this stage
- it shouldn't be blocked on any locks held by frozen tasks
(try_to_freeze expects lockless context) and kernel threads and
work queues are not frozen yet

UARTs which do not trigger THRE interrupt if the fifo is already
empty when the interrupt is enabled need tx primed manually. These
UARTs are identified by the UART_BUG_TXEN flag to enable the
required workaround.
However, the current workaround is broken; if the fifo is already
empty but the shifter is still transmitting, then serial8250_tx_chars()
will not be called but no further THRE interrupt will occur, and
tx will stall. The appropriate check is for fifo empty (THRE), not
transmitter empty (TEMT).

RTS pin control when in autoRTS mode.
New support added in "serial: core: Rework hw-assisted flow control support"
enables a much simpler approach; rather than masking out autoRTS
whenever writing the EFR register, use the UPSTAT_* mode to determine if
autoRTS should be enabled when raising RTS (in omap8250_set_mctrl()).

hw-assisted flow control support was added to the serial core
in v3.8 with commits,
dba05832cb ("SERIAL: core: add hardware assisted h/w flow control support")
2cbacafd7a ("SERIAL: core: add hardware assisted s/w flow control support")
9aba8d5b01 ("SERIAL: core: add throttle/unthrottle callbacks for hardware
assisted flow control")
Since then, additional requirements for serial core support have arisen.
Specifically,
1. Separate tx and rx flow control settings for UARTs which only support
tx flow control (ie., autoCTS).
2. Disable sw-assisted CTS flow control in autoCTS mode
3. Support for RTS flow control by serial core and userspace in autoRTS mode
Distinguish mode from capability; introduce UPSTAT_AUTORTS, UPSTAT_AUTOCTS
and UPSTAT_AUTOXOFF which, when set by the uart driver, enable serial core
support for hw-assisted rx, hw-assisted tx and hw-assisted in-band/IXOFF
rx flow control, respectively. [Note: hw-assisted in-band/IXON tx flow
control does not require serial core support/intervention and can be
enabled by the uart driver when required.]
These modes must be set/reset in the driver's set_termios() method, based
on termios settings, and thus can be safely queried in any context in which
one of the port lock, port mutex or termios rwsem are held. Set these modes
in the 2 in-tree drivers, omap-serial and 8250_omap, which currently
use UPF_HARD_FLOW/UPF_SOFT_FLOW support.
Retain UPF_HARD_FLOW and UPF_SOFT_FLOW as capabilities; re-define
UPF_HARD_FLOW as both UPF_AUTO_RTS and UPF_AUTO_CTS to allow for distinct
and separate rx and tx flow control capabilities.
Disable sw-assisted CTS flow control when UPSTAT_AUTOCTS is enabled.

When using no_console_suspend, the serial console may be powered off
anyway during system sleep. Upon resume, the port may be in its default
power-on state, but is expected to continue console i/o before the device
has received its pm callback. The resultant garbage i/o can cause all
kinds of havoc on the remote end.
Use the scratch register as a canary to discover if the console
has been powered-off. Write a non-zero value to the scratch register
at port suspend and reprogram the port before any console i/o if the
scratch register != canary before port resume.
This workaround is disabled for omap_8250 (which uses different divisor

that the data error rate % values in the datasheet are for
rounded fractional results, as the truncated fractional results
have more error.

not suspending (kernel command line contains no_console_suspend),
then no action is performed for that port, and the function can

If the function has not returned early, then one of the conditions
is not true, so the expression

must be true and can be eliminated.
Similarly, the expression

BRKINT and ISIG requires input and output flush when a signal char
is received. However, the order of operations is significant since
parallel i/o may be ongoing.
Merge the signal handling for BRKINT with ISIG handling.
Process the signal first. This ensures any ongoing i/o is aborted;
without this, a waiting writer may continue writing after the flush
occurs and after the signal char has been echoed.
Write lock the termios_rwsem, which excludes parallel writers from
pushing new i/o until after the output buffers are flushed; claiming
the write lock is necessary anyway to exclude parallel readers while
the read buffer is flushed.
Subclass the termios_rwsem for ptys since the slave pty performing
the flush may appear to reorder the termios_rwsem->tty buffer lock
lock order; adding annotation clarifies that
slave tty_buffer lock-> slave termios_rwsem -> master tty_buffer lock
is a valid lock order.
Flush the echo buffer. In this context, the echo buffer is 'output'.
Otherwise, the output will appear discontinuous because the output buffer
was cleared which contains older output than the echo buffer.
Open-code the read buffer flush since the input worker does not need
kicking (this is the input worker).

The pty driver does not clear its write buffer when commanded.
This is to avoid an apparent deadlock between parallel flushes from
both pty ends; specifically when handling either BRK or INTR input.
However, parallel flushes from this source is not possible since
the pty master can never be set to BRKINT or ISIG. Parallel flushes
from other sources are possible but these do not threaten deadlocks.
Annotate the tty buffer mutex for lockdep to represent the nested
tty_buffer locking which occurs when the pty slave is processing input
(its buffer mutex held) and receives INTR or BRK and acquires the
linked tty buffer mutex via tty_buffer_flush().

In canon mode, the read buffer head will advance over the buffer tail
if the input > 4095 bytes without receiving a line termination char.
Discard additional input until a line termination is received.
Before evaluating for overflow, the 'room' value is normalized for
I_PARMRK and 1 byte is reserved for line termination (even in !icanon
mode, in case the mode is switched). The following table shows the
transform:
actual buffer | 'room' value before overflow calc
space avail | !I_PARMRK | I_PARMRK
--------------------------------------------------
0 | -1 | -1
1 | 0 | 0
2 | 1 | 0
3 | 2 | 0
4+ | 3 | 1
When !icanon or when icanon and the read buffer contains newlines,
normalized 'room' values of -1 and 0 are clamped to 0, and
'overflow' is 0, so read_head is not adjusted and the input i/o loop
exits (setting no_room if called from flush_to_ldisc()). No input
is discarded since the reader does have input available to read
which ensures forward progress.
When icanon and the read buffer does not contain newlines and the
normalized 'room' value is 0, then overflow and room are reset to 1,
so that the i/o loop will process the next input char normally
(except for parity errors which are ignored). Thus, erasures, signalling
chars, 7-bit mode, etc. will continue to be handled properly.
If the input char processed was not a line termination char, then
the canon_head index will not have advanced, so the normalized 'room'
value will now be -1 and 'overflow' will be set, which indicates the
read_head can safely be reset, effectively erasing the last char
processed.
If the input char processed was a line termination, then the
canon_head index will have advanced, so 'overflow' is cleared to 0,
the read_head is not reset, and 'room' is cleared to 0, which exits
the i/o loop (because the reader now have input available to read
which ensures forward progress).
Note that it is possible for a line termination to be received, and
for the reader to copy the line to the user buffer before the
input i/o loop is ready to process the next input char. This is
why the i/o loop recomputes the room/overflow state with every
input char while handling overflow.
Finally, if the input data was processed without receiving
a line termination (so that overflow is still set), the pty
driver must receive a write wakeup. A pty writer may be waiting
to write more data in n_tty_write() but without unthrottling
here that wakeup will not arrive, and forward progress will halt.
(Normally, the pty writer is woken when the reader reads data out
of the buffer and more space become available).

If PARMRK is enabled, the available read buffer space computation is
overly-pessimistic, which results in severely throttled i/o, even
in the absence of parity errors. For example, if the 4k read buffer
contains 1k processed data, the input worker will compute available
space of 333 bytes, despite 3k being available. At 1365 chars of
processed data, 0 space available is computed.
*Divide remaining space* by 3, truncating down (if left == 2, left = 0).

The input worker never reschedules itself; it only processes input until
either there is no more input or the read buffer is full. So the reader
is responsible for restarting the input worker only if the read buffer
was previously full (no_room == 1) _and_ space is now available to process
more input because the reader has consumed data from the read buffer.
However, computing the actual space available is not required to determine
if the reader has consumed data from the read buffer. This condition is
evaluated in 5 situations, each of which the space avail is already known:
1. n_tty_flush_buffer() - the read buffer is empty; kick the worker
2. n_tty_set_termios() - no data has been consumed; do not kick the worker
(although it may have kicked the reader so data _will be_ consumed)
3. n_tty_check_unthrottle - avail space > 3968; kick the worker
4. n_tty_read, before leaving - only kick the worker if the reader has
moved the tail. This prevents unnecessarily kicking the worker
when timeout-style reading is used.
5. n_tty_read, before sleeping - although it is possible for the read
buffer to be full and input_available_p() to be false, this can
only happen when the input worker is racing the reader, in which
case the reader will have been woken and won't sleep.
Rename n_tty_set_room() to n_tty_kick_worker() to reflect what the
function actually does.

In order to make it possible to restore from hibernation not only in Linux but
also in e.g. U-Boot, we have to use sci_{suspend|remove}() for the PM {freeze|
thaw|restore}() methods. It's handy to achieve this by using SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS()
macro, however we have to annotate sci_{suspend|remove}() with '__maybe_unused'
in order to avoid compilation warnings when CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is undefined.

The implementation of flushing the RX FIFO breaks in a number of cases,
it is impossible to ensure an complete flush of the RX FIFO due to the
hardware not allowing the use of the FIFOs when the receiver is disabled
(Reading from the FIFO register does not remove it from the FIFO when
the RX_EN=0 or RX_DIS=1). Additionally during an initial set_termios
call where RX_DIS=1 causes a hang waiting forever for the RX FIFO to
empty. On top of this the FIFO will be cleared by the use of the RXRST
bits on the Control Register, making the RX flush pointless (as it does
not preserve the data read anyway).
Due to the TXRST the TX FIFO and transmitter can be interrupted during
frame trasmission, causing corruption and additionally data lost in the
FIFO. Most other serial drivers do not flush or clear the FIFOs during
a termios configuration change and as such do not have issues with
corruption. For this UART controller is it required that the TXRST/RXRST
bit be flagged during the change, this means that the data in the FIFO
will be dropped when changing configuration. In order to prevent data
loss and corruption of the transmitted data, wait until the TX FIFO is
empty before changing the configuration. The performance of this may
cause the set_termios call to take a longer amount of time especially
on lower baud rates, however it is comparable to the same performance
hit that a console_write call costs.

When the kernel command line parameter, no_console_suspend, is used,
the console should continue to output console messages during and

However, the default operation of the pnp bus will disable and suspend

To end a DMA transfer which did not consume a whole buffer (e.g. one

the DMA transfer will complete and setup another DMA transfer, which
in turn might complete again. In this cases, it is not necessary to
abort the DMA transfers using the RX timer. This change pushes the

The default console driver (conswitchp) and busy drivers bound to a
console (as reported by con_is_bound()) shouldn't be unregistered.
System console drivers (without the CON_DRIVER_FLAG_MODULE flag) can be
unregistered, provided they are neither default nor busy. The current
code checks for the CON_DRIVER_FLAG_INIT flag but this doesn't make
sense: this flag is set for a driver whenever its associated console's
con_startup() function is called, which first happens when the console
driver is registered (so before the console gets bound) and gets cleared
when the console gets unbound. The purpose of this flag is to show if we
need to call con_startup() on a console before we use it.
Based on the above, do_unregister_con_driver() in its current form will
allow unregistering a console driver only if it was never bound, but
will refuse to unregister one that was bound and later unbound.
Fix this by dropping the CON_DRIVER_FLAG_INIT check, allowing
unregistering of any console driver provided that it's not the default
one and it's not busy.

Currently in dma_tx_callback(), no matter if there is still
remaining data pending in circle buffer or not, DMA transmit
will be terminated.
This will result in some data never get transmitted.
In order to fix this issue, call imx_dma_tx() again in
dma_tx_callback, when there is pending data and uart hasn't
been stopped.

This reverts commit 2ad28e3efe.
Instead of always wake up write_wait process in TX callback,
TX callback should call imx_dma_tx() again, and let imx_dma_tx
transfer the remaining data in circle buffer.
The issue with commit 2ad28e3 is, in case there is remaining
data in circle buffer, but no process is waiting on write_wait
queue, then as no following uart_write() will be called after
uart_write_wakeup(), thus cause data loss.
Moreover according to Documentation/serial/driver, uart_write_wakeup()
should be called in case the transmit buffer have dropped below
a threshold.

To synchronize between dma_tx_callback() and imx_dma_tx() use the same
variable, dma_is_txing. This prevents any race between these two functions
and ensures that a new DMA can start only after the first has been
finished.
Before the new DMA can be set up, update the circular buffer logic, first.
Therefore, change dma_is_txing after that update, instead of before.
While doing this, in dma_tx_callback() extend the locking to dma_unmap_sg()
and the update of dma_is_txing.

Use imx_start_tx() just to enable the TX interrupt. It's the job of the
TX interrupt ISR to fill the transmit buffer, then. If the transmit buffer
is empty, the TX interrupt should be executed as soon as the start_tx()
enables the interrupt, so there is no reason for the extra
imx_transmit_buffer() call, here. Remove it.

This patch fixes many bugs in the code dealing with the hardware handshake.
As an example, in atmel_set_termios(), we used to test whether the CRTSCTS
c_cflag was set. If so, we selected the "Hardware Handshake" mode through the
Mode Register. However, few lines below the mode was reset to "Normal" (0).
So there was no way to select the "Hardware Handshake" mode. To fix this issue,
we moved the CRTSCRTS c_cflag test AFTER the mode has been reset to "Normal".
Also setting the RTSEN and RTSDIS bits in the Control Register has different
results whether the USART is set in "Normal" or "Hardware Handshake" mode:
1) "Normal" mode
- the RTSEN bit forces the RTS line to low level, which tells the remote peer
that we are ready to received new data.
- the RTSDIS bit forces the RTS line to high level, which tells the remote peer
to stop sending new data.
2) "Hardware Handshake" mode
- the RTSEN bit forces the RTS line to high level.
- the RTSDIS bit lets the hardware control the RTS line.
WARNING:
when FIFOs are not available or not enabled, the RTS line is controlled by the
PDC. This is why using the Hardware Handshake mode requires using the PDC
channel for reception. However the Hardware Handshake mode DOES NOT work with
DMA controller since it cannot control the RTS line.
Future designs with FIFOs will introduce a new feature: the RTS line will be
controlled by the RX FIFO using thresholds. This patch was tested with this new
design.

-EDEFER error wasn't handle properly by atmel_serial_probe().
As an example, when atmel_serial_probe() is called for the first time, we pass
the test_and_set_bit() test to check whether the port has already been
initalized. Then we call atmel_init_port(), which may return -EDEFER, possibly
returned before by clk_get(). Consequently atmel_serial_probe() used to return
this error code WITHOUT clearing the port bit in the "atmel_ports_in_use" mask.
When atmel_serial_probe() was called for the second time, it used to fail on
the test_and_set_bit() function then returning -EBUSY.
When atmel_serial_probe() fails, this patch make it clear the port bit in the
"atmel_ports_in_use" mask, if needed, before returning the error code.

atmel_serial_probe() calls atmel_init_port(). In turn, atmel_init_port() calls
clk_disable_unprepare() to disable the peripheral clock before returning.
Later atmel_serial_probe() accesses some I/O registers such as the Mode and
Control registers for RS485 support then the Name and Version registers, through a call to
atmel_get_ip_name(), but at that moment the peripheral clock was still
disabled.

Because the OMAP3 UART ignores MCR[1] (RTS) in autoRTS mode, autoRTS
mode must not be enabled unless RTS is set (or port->mctrl & TIOCM_RTS,
which is equivalent).
Fixes premature raising of RTS in omap_8250_set_termios() -- RTS was
raised even before UART mode was selected.

The OMAP3 UART ignores MCR[1] (ie., UART_MCR_RTS) when in autoRTS
mode (UPF_HARD_FLOW + CRTSCTS). This makes it impossible for either
the serial core or userspace to manually flow control the sender.
Disable autoRTS mode when RTS is lowered and restore the previous
mode when RTS is raised.
Note that the OMAP3 UART provides no mechanism for switching from
autoRTS mode without corrupting incoming data; to access the
necessary register, the line control settings must be set to 8-e-2
and thus any data received during that time will be interpreted with
those settings. This corruption has been observed in practice.

API only and makes it possible to e.g. toggle a clock and

Pull scheduler updates from Ingo Molnar:
"The main changes in this cycle are:
- 'Nested Sleep Debugging', activated when CONFIG_DEBUG_ATOMIC_SLEEP=y.
This instruments might_sleep() checks to catch places that nest
blocking primitives - such as mutex usage in a wait loop. Such
bugs can result in hard to debug races/hangs.
Another category of invalid nesting that this facility will detect
is the calling of blocking functions from within schedule() ->
sched_submit_work() -> blk_schedule_flush_plug().
There's some potential for false positives (if secondary blocking
primitives themselves are not ready yet for this facility), but the
kernel will warn once about such bugs per bootup, so the warning
isn't much of a nuisance.
This feature comes with a number of fixes, for problems uncovered
with it, so no messages are expected normally.
- Another round of sched/numa optimizations and refinements, for
CONFIG_NUMA_BALANCING=y.

Commit 19e2ad6a09 ("n_tty: Remove overflow
tests from receive_buf() path") moved the increment of read_head into
the arguments list of read_buf_addr(). Function calls represent a
sequence point in C. Therefore read_head is incremented before the
character c is placed in the buffer. Since the circular read buffer is
a lock-less design since commit 6d76bd2618
("n_tty: Make N_TTY ldisc receive path lockless"), this creates a race
condition that leads to communication errors.
This patch modifies the code to increment read_head _after_ the data
is placed in the buffer and thus fixes the race for non-SMP machines.
To fix the problem for SMP machines, memory barriers must be added in
a separate patch.

tx_empty() should test whether both the transmitter fifo and shifter
for the port is empty, ie. the whole last char was transmitted.
The shift register is empty if AUART_STAT_BUSY is cleared.
The patch fixes the function against the shift register.
According to i.MX23 and i.MX28 Reference Manual:
AUART_STAT_TXFE:
TX FIFO or transmit holding register is empty.
AUART_STAT_BUSY:
AUART still transmits bits.
The BUSY signal goes HIGH as soon as the data is written to the
transmit FIFO (that is, the FIFO is non-empty) and remains asserted
HIGH while data is being transmitted.
BUSY is negated only when the transmit FIFO is empty, and the last
character has been transmitted from the shift register, including
the stop bits.

Although the existing code appears to work on most hardware, the
hardware designers tell us that 8-bit access to the registers is not
guaranteed to be reliable. Also the OCTEON simulation environments
prohibit 8-bit accesses.
For these reasons, we use __raw_readq/__raw_writeq for OCTEON. This
code is protected with #ifdef CONFIG_64BIT so it still builds under
configurations lacking readq/writeq.
We can get rid of the #ifdef __BIG_ENDIAN, as under 64-bit accesses,
OCTEON is byte order invariant.

Exynos7 has a similar serial controller to that present in older Samsung
SoCs. To re-use the existing serial driver on Exynos7 we need to have
SERIAL_SAMSUNG_UARTS_4 and SERIAL_SAMSUNG_UARTS selected. This is not
possible because these symbols are dependent on PLAT_SAMSUNG which is
not present for the ARMv8 based exynos7.
Change the dependency of these symbols from PLAT_SAMSUNG to the serial
driver thus making it available on exynos7. As the existing platform
specific code making use of these symbols is related to uart driver this
change in dependency should not cause any issues.

We need to issue a reset if we ever change the value of the IPR
register on DM hardware. If we don't reset the hardware the RX
stale interrupt never triggers and the only way to trigger an RX
handling event is by filling up the fifo. This causes things like
getty to not work so well considering it might change the baud
rate a few times. Fix this by moving the reset on startup and any
reprogramming required after the reset to be after we change the
baud rate.

To properly support sysrq on uartDM hardware we need to properly
handle break characters. With the DM hardware the fifo can pack 4
characters at a time, where a break is indicated by an all zero
byte. Unfortunately, we can't differentiate between an all zero
byte for a break and an all zero byte of data, so try and do as
best we can. First unmask the RX break start interrupt and record
the interrupt when it arrives. Then while processing the fifo,
detect the break by searching for an all zero character as long
as we recently received an RX break start interrupt. This should
make sysrq work fairly well.

This patch swaps the use "tail" and "head" to fit the semantic of the linux
circular buffer documentation:
- head: the point at which the producer (the DMA controller) inserts items.
- tail: the point at which the consumer (the serial framework) finds the next
item.
Besides the former code of the rx ring buffer didn't manage the case where
head < tail, which might lead to loss of data. To fix this bug the data are now
sent from the DMA buffer to the serial framework in two steps:
1 - First, we test if head < tail. If so, we copy the data from tail to the end
of the DMA buffer then reset tail to zero.
2 - Finally, we copy data from tail to head then set tail to head.
In addition, since tty_insert_flip_string() may now be called twice,
atmel_flip_buffer_rx_dma() becomes less efficient than moving the calls
dma_sync_sg_for_cpu(), dma_sync_sg_for_device(), tty_insert_flip_string() and
tty_flip_buffer_push() directly into atmel_rx_from_dma().

introduces a race window where a pty master can be signalled that the pty

Commit f8747d4a46 ("tty: Fix pty master read() after slave closes") fixed the
problem in case of n_tty_read, but the problem still exists for n_tty_poll.
This can be seen by running 'for ((i=0; i<100;i++));do ./test.py ;done'
where test.py is:
import os, select, pty
(pid, pty_fd) = pty.fork()
if pid == 0:
os.write(1, 'This string should be received by parent')
else:
poller = select.epoll()
poller.register( pty_fd, select.EPOLLIN )
ready = poller.poll( 1 * 1000 )
for fd, events in ready:
if not events & select.EPOLLIN:
print 'missed POLLIN event'
else:
print os.read(fd, 100)
poller.close()
The string from the slave is missed several times.

67: 115 GIC 67 21f8000.i2c
The only uart irq that appears is ttymxc0, which is the console.
As ttymxc1 and ttymxc4 will only have their irq registered at imx_startup(),
they are not shown right after probe.
Transmitting to ttymxc1 and ttymxc4 will cause their irqs to be registered, but
the output shows:
$ echo "111111" > /dev/ttymxc1
$ echo "444444" > /dev/ttymxc4

,which misses printing the associated device address.
In order to fix this, register all the irqs inside the probe function via
devm_request_irq(), which will correctly report the serial interrupts associated
with their correspondent serial device and also helps simplyfing the code by
avoiding the calls to free_irq().

This patch adds the required pieces to 8250-OMAP UART driver for DMA
support. The TX burst size is set to 1 so we can send an arbitrary
amount of bytes.
The RX burst is currently set to 48 which means we receive an DMA
interrupt every 48 bytes and have to reprogram everything. Less bytes in
the RX-FIFO mean that no DMA transfer will happen and the UART will send a
RX-timeout _or_ RDI event at which point the FIFO will be manually purged.
There is a workaround for TX-DMA on AM33xx where we put the first byte
into the FIFO to kick start the DMA process. Haven't seen this problem on
OMAP36xx (beagle board xm) or DRA7xx.
On AM375x there is "Usage Note 2.7: UART: Cannot Acknowledge Idle
Requests in Smartidle Mode When Configured for DMA Operations" in the
errata document. This problem persists even after disabling DMA in the
UART and will be addressed in the HWMOD.
v10:
- delay update_registers() from set_termios() until TX-DMA is
done. It has been reported / proved that invoking
update_registers() while TX-DMA is in progress may stall the
DMA operation and it won't finish.
- use the new omap DMA-TX-RX hooks and DMA only interrupt
routine.

We have (or will have) custom DMA callbacks in the omap driver due to
the different behaviour in the RX and TX case. To make this work
we need a few changes in the IRQ handler to invoke the rx_handler again
after the "manual" mode or retry the tx_handler again before falling
back to the manual mode.
Heikki didn't want to see the extra hacks in the generic / default irq
handler and Peter wasn't too happy about an OMAP-only IRQ handler. The
way I planned it is to use this extra IRQ routine only in DMA case. If
Peter dislike this approach then I hope Heikki doesn't block changes in
the default IRQ handler :)

This patch provides mostly a copy of serial8250_tx_dma() +
__dma_tx_complete() with the following extensions:
- DMA bug
At least on AM335x the following problem exists: Even if the TX FIFO is
empty and a TX transfer is programmed (and started) the UART does not
trigger the DMA transfer.
After $TRESHOLD number of bytes have been written to the FIFO manually the
UART reevaluates the whole situation and decides that now there is enough
room in the FIFO and so the transfer begins.
This problem has not been seen on DRA7 or beagle board xm (OMAP3). I am not
sure if this is UART-IP core specific or DMA engine.
The workaround is to use a threshold of one byte, program the DMA
transfer minus one byte and then to put the first byte into the FIFO to
kick start the transfer.
- support for runtime PM
RPM is enabled on start_tx(). We can't disable RPM on DMA complete callback
because there is still data in the FIFO which is being sent. We have to wait
until the FIFO is empty before we disable it.
For this to happen we fake a TX sent error and enable THRI. Once the
FIFO is empty we receive an interrupt and since the TTY-buffer is still
empty we "put RPM" via __stop_tx(). Should it been filed then in the
start_tx() path we should program the DMA transfer and remove the error
flag and the THRI bit.

After dmaengine_terminate_all() has been invoked then both DMA drivers
(edma and omap-dma) do not invoke dma_cookie_complete() to mark the
transfer as complete. This dma_cookie_complete() is performed by the
Synopsys DesignWare driver which is probably the only one that is used
by omap8250-dma and hence don't see following problem…
…which is that once a RX transfer has been terminated then following
query of channel status reports DMA_IN_PROGRESS (again: the actual
transfer has been canceled, there is nothing going on anymore).
This means that serial8250_rx_dma() never enqueues another DMA transfer
because it (wrongly) assumes that there is a transer already pending.
Vinod Koul refuses to accept a patch which adds this
dma_cookie_complete() to both drivers and so dmaengine_tx_status() would
report DMA_COMPLETE instead (and behave like the Synopsys DesignWare
driver already does). He argues that I am not allowed to use the cookie
to query the status and that the driver already cleaned everything up after
the invokation of dmaengine_terminate_all().
To end this I add a bookkeeping whether or not a RX-transfer has been
started to the 8250-dma code. It has already been done for the TX side.
*Now* we learn about the RX status based on our bookkeeping and don't
need dmaengine_tx_status() for this anymore.

Right now it is possible that serial8250_tx_dma() fails and returns
-EBUSY. The caller (serial8250_start_tx()) will then enable
UART_IER_THRI which will generate an interrupt once the TX FIFO is
empty.
In serial8250_handle_irq() nothing will happen because up->dma is set
and so serial8250_tx_chars() won't be invoked. We end up with plenty of
interrupts and some "too much work for irq" output.
This patch introduces dma_tx_err in struct uart_8250_port to signal that
the last invocation of serial8250_tx_dma() failed so we can fill the TX
FIFO manually. Should the next invocation of serial8250_start_tx()
succeed then the dma_tx_err flag along with the THRI bit is removed and
DMA only usage may continue.

This patch provides a 8250-core based UART driver for the internal OMAP
UART. The long term goal is to provide the same functionality as the
current OMAP uart driver and DMA support.
I tried to merge omap-serial code together with the 8250-core code.
There should should be hardly a noticable difference. The trigger levels
are different compared to omap-serial:
- omap serial
TX: Interrupt comes after TX FIFO has room for 16 bytes.
TX of 4096 bytes in one go results in 256 interrupts
RX: Interrupt comes after there is on byte in the FIFO.
RX of 4096 bytes results in 4096 interrupts.
- this driver
TX: Interrupt comes once the TX FIFO is empty.
TX of 4096 bytes results in 65 interrupts. That means there will
be gaps on the line while the driver reloads the FIFO.
RX: Interrupt comes once there are 48 bytes in the FIFO or less over
"longer" time frame. We have
1 / 11520 * 10^3 * 16 => 1.38… ms
1.38ms to react and purge the FIFO on 115200,8N1. Since the other
driver fired after each byte it had ~5.47ms time to react. This
_may_ cause problems if one relies on no missing bytes and has no
flow control. On the other hand we get only 85 interrupts for the
same amount of data.
It has been only tested as console UART on am335x-evm, dra7-evm and
beagle bone. I also did some longer raw-transfers to meassure the load.
The device name is ttyS based instead of ttyO. If a ttyO based node name
is required please ask udev for it. If both driver are activated (this
and omap-serial) then this serial driver will take control over the
device due to the link order
v9…v10:
- Tony noticed that omap3 won't show anything after waking up
from core off. In v9 I reworked the register restore and set
IER to 0 by accident. This went unnoticed because start_tx
usually sets ier (either due to DMA bug or due to TX-complete
IRQ).
- dropped EFR and SLEEP from capabilities. We do have both but
nobody should touch it. We already handle SLEEP ourself.
- make the private copy of the registers (like EFR) u8 instead
u32
- drop MDR1 & DL[ML] reset in restore registers. Does not look
required it is set to the required value later.
- update MDR1 & SCR only if changed.
- set MDR1 as the last thing. The errata says that we should
setup everything before MDR1 set.
- avoid div by 0 in omap_8250_get_divisor() if baud rate gets
very large (Frans Klaver fixed the same thing omap-serial)
- drop "is in early stage" from Kconfig.
v8…v9:
- less on a file seems to hang the am335x after a while. I
believe I introduce this bug a while ago since I can reproduce
this prior to v8. Fixed by redoing the omap8250_restore_regs()
v7…v8:
- redo the register write. There is now one function for that
which is used from set_termios() and runtime-resume.
- drop PORT_OMAP_16750 and move the setup to the omap file. We
have our own set termios function anyway (Heikki Krogerus)
- use MEM instead of MEM32. TRM of AM/DM37x says that 32bit
access on THR might result in data abort. We only need 32bit
access in the errata function which is before we use 8250's
read function so it doesn't matter.
v4…v7:
- change trigger levels after some tests with raw transfers.
v3…v4:
- drop RS485 support
- wire up ->throttle / ->unthrottle
v2…v3:
- wire up startup & shutdown for wakeup-irq handling.
- RS485 handling (well the core does).
v1…v2:
- added runtime PM. Could somebody could please double check
this?
- added omap_8250_set_termios()

This patch removes the error message as the core prints the same

A port count mismatch occurs if mutex_lock_interruptible()
exits uart_open() and the port has already been opened. This may
prematurely close a port on an open tty. Since uart_close() is _always_
called if uart_open() fails, the port count must be corrected if errors
occur.
Always increment the port count in uart_open(), regardless of errors;
always decrement the port count in uart_close(). Note that
tty_port_close_start() decrements the port count when uart_open()
was successful.

The low-level uart driver may modify termios settings to override
settings that are not compatible with the uart, such as CRTSCTS.
Thus, callers of the low-level uart driver's set_termios() method must
hold termios_rwsem write lock to prevent concurrent access to termios,
in case such override occurs.
The termios_rwsem lock requirement does not extend to console setup
(ie., uart_set_options), as console setup cannot race with tty
operations. Nor does this lock requirement extend to functions which
cannot be concurrent with tty ioctls (ie., uart_port_startup() and
uart_resume_port()).
Further, always claim the port mutex to protect hardware
re-reprogramming in the set_termios() uart driver method. Note this
is unnecessary for console initialization in uart_set_options()
which cannot be concurrent with other uart operations.

The tty buffers (and any line discipline buffers) must be flushed after
the UART hardware has shutdown; otherwise, a racing open on the same
tty may receive data from the previous session, which is a security
hazard. However, holding the port mutex while flushing the line
discipline buffers creates a lock inversion if the set_termios()
handler takes the port mutex (as it does in the followup patch,
'serial: Fix locking for uart driver set_termios method'.
Flush the ldisc buffers after dropping the port mutex; the tty lock
is still held which prevents a concurrent open() from advancing while
flushing. Since no new rx data is possible after uart_shutdown() until
a new open reinitializes the port, the later flush has no impact on
what data is being discarded.
