As diffstat shows we've had again a lot of works done for this cycle: majority of changes are the continued componentization and code refactoring in ASoC, the tree-wide PCM API updates and cleanups and SOF updates while a few ASoC driver updates are seen, too. Here we go, some highlights: Core: - Finally y2038 support landed to ALSA ABI; some ioctls have been extended and lots of tricks were applied - Applying the new managed PCM buffer API to all drivers; the API itself was already merged in 5.5 - The already deprecated dimension support in ALSA control API is dropped completely now - Verification of ALSA control elements to catch API misuses ASoC: - Further code refactorings and moving things to the component level - Lots of updates and improvements on SOF / Intel drivers; now including common HDMI driver and SoundWire support - New driver support for Ingenic JZ4770, Mediatek MT6660, Qualcomm WCD934x and WSA881x, and Realtek RT700, RT711, RT715, RT1011, RT1015 and RT1308 HD-audio: - Improved ring-buffer communications using waitqueue - Drop the superfluous buffer preallocation on x86 Others: - Many code cleanups, mostly constifications over the whole tree - USB-audio: quirks for MOTU, Corsair Virtuoso, Line6 Helix - FireWire: code refactoring for oxfw and dice drivers -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJCBAABCAAsFiEEIXTw5fNLNI7mMiVaLtJE4w1nLE8FAl4v7qsOHHRpd2FpQHN1 c2UuZGUACgkQLtJE4w1nLE9s7hAAoeqwRF+WffBaSMZKShDyFD5L7Z/YeXxh2b81 ErnVaSbXmWMhzgx7G7dj3bchkJWYsqAH//j3/AHYCF22slJdeTof0cpqaRgC0qEv eIj9ALu2Hh+z5jJHOlbpcYevtK89frY9zu4Su/5YAfZloUNLqAbl59SNOiS99/hu SR5rF0UCGngHf+pjiBpruQv2hahD5Y0a4rIGMaZB/GAa3p7eQ42koMmIEje/rjF0 bSpiYmmAwGJ62RlTUFCBNlj9w78eUfqrf8SHr91d7zNHUZpHR9GoFswmLGM0UtGS 5gIm+6UkBmTQcqgKhYsLl2eT/PSLVHpbYUeABjP62EqxWpksOl2/fQfrGuVT1Vjm QVoc345dKoKcNxVH1iuVg+/JYsmuPIpSmviFCKbH5IUlTWWyOYzWxZVdrZ/gIyXh fY/vDL2yOdR9mTnHYAfsJ8IB2ABY4pDahC6Dbvh5JoN/vmsND2Wv2l+HIIdLTarj R/n7+Rn6HLQmCJvgIWLniG6FxYxx4gqd/VVVaL7eJKYrcqvQq6VNZ/36Fgh3Ahdi HnKxyer3K7vC8CGM3cNH/Dq/iGTNgTcX6pnhVepl/elSZTMDrxZcWbbA0nPhBe8J 5SWGEstv11OBi/JL3vGdTmV4ceZ/yIBg9pIGg4j0rH3hKT83G7O5E++PixKCmmMc fZPCeAg= =PGgQ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'sound-5.6-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound Pull sound updates from Takashi Iwai: "As the diffstat shows we've had again a lot of works done for this cycle: the majority of changes are the continued componentization and code refactoring in ASoC, the tree-wide PCM API updates and cleanups and SOF updates while a few ASoC driver updates are seen, too. * Note #2 "full duplex mode" ............................... martin 2002-12-07
*
* Full duplex doesn't work. All cards (32, 32/8, 32Pro) are working identical
* in this mode. Rec data and play data are using the same buffer therefore. At
* first you have got the playing bits in the buffer and then (after playing
* them) they were overwitten by the captured sound of the CS8412/14. Both
* modes (play/record) are running harmonically hand in hand in the same buffer
* and you have only one start bit plus one interrupt bit to control this
* paired action.
* This is opposite to the latter rme96 where playing and capturing is totally
* separated and so their full duplex mode is supported by alsa (using two
* start bits and two interrupts for two different buffers).
* But due to the wrong sequence of playing and capturing ALSA shows no solved
* full duplex support for the rme32 at the moment. That's bad, but I'm not
* able to solve it. Are you motivated enough to solve this problem now? Your
* patch would be welcome!
*
* ****************************************************************************

*
* "The story after the long seeking" -- tiwai
*
* Ok, the situation regarding the full duplex is now improved a bit.
* In the fullduplex mode (given by the module parameter), the hardware buffer
* is split to halves for read and write directions at the DMA pointer.
* That is, the half above the current DMA pointer is used for write, and
* the half below is used for read. To mangle this strange behavior, an
* software intermediate buffer is introduced. This is, of course, not good
* from the viewpoint of the data transfer efficiency. However, this allows
* you to use arbitrary buffer sizes, instead of the fixed I/O buffer size.
