Calling the fixed-phy functions when CONFIG_FIXED_PHY=m as a previous
change tried cannot work if the caller is in built-in code:
drivers/of/built-in.o: In function `of_phy_register_fixed_link':
of_reserved_mem.c:(.text+0x85e0): undefined reference to `fixed_phy_register'
Making of_mdio depend on 'FIXED_PHY || !FIXED_PHY' would solve this
dependency by enforcing that OF_MDIO itself becomes a loadable module
when FIXED_PHY=y, but that creates a different dependency as it
breaks any built-in ethernet driver that uses of_mdio.
Making FIXED_PHY a bool option also cannot work, since it depends on
PHYLIB, which again is tristate.
This version now uses 'select FIXED_PHY' to ensure that the fixed-phy
portion of of_mdio is not optional. The main downside of this is
a small increase in code size for cases that do not need fixed phy
support, but it should avoid all of the link-time problems.

The arch code calls of_platform_populate() with default match table
when it wants to populate default bus.
This patch introduce a new of_platform_default_populate_init() and make it
arch_initcall_sync(it should be later than some iommu configration, eg,
of_iommu_init() and swiotlb_late_init in arm64), then we can finish above
job in common method.
In order to avoid the default bus being populated twice, simply checking
the flag of bus node whether has be set OF_POPULATED_BUS or not.
After that, we can safely remove the caller in arch code.
Btw, add debug print in of_platform_populate(), and use __func__ to
print function's name of of_platform_bus_create().

The function is unflattening device sub-tree blob if @dad passed to
the function is valid. Currently, this functionality is used by PPC
PowerNV PCI hotplug driver only. There are possibly multiple nodes
in the first level of depth, fdt_next_node() bails immediately when
@depth becomes negative before the second device node can be probed
successfully. It leads to the device nodes except the first one won't
be unflattened successfully.
This fixes the issue by setting the initial depth (@inital_depth) to
1 when this function is called to unflatten device sub-tree blob. No
logic changes when this function is used to unflatten non-sub-tree
blob.

Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:
- Peter Rosin did some major rework on the locking of i2c muxes by
seperating parent-locked muxes and mux-locked muxes.
This avoids deadlocks/workarounds when the mux itself needs i2c
commands for muxing. And as a side-effect, other workarounds in the
media layer could be eliminated. Also, Peter stepped up as the i2c
mux maintainer and will keep an eye on these changes.

Function populate_node() is used to unflatten FDT blob to device
tree. It supports maximal 64 level of device nodes. There is one
array @fpsizes[64] tracking the full name length of last unflattened
device node in the corresponding level (index of element in the
array - 1). Build warning is seen with CONFIG_FRAME_WARN=1024 like
below on ARM64 as Geert reported. The issue can be reproduced on
PPC64 as well.
$ make drivers/of/fdt.o
drivers/of/fdt.c:443:1: warning: the frame size of 1136 bytes is \
larger than 1024 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
This changes the data type of @fpsizes[i] from "unsigned long" to
"unsigned int" to avoid the build warning. The return value type
of populate_node() and its @fpsize argument is adjusted accordingly.
With this applied, 256 bytes saved from the stack frame on ARM64 and
PPC64 platforms and the above warning isn't seen.

When the implementation for unflatten_dt_node() changed from being
recursive to being non-recursive, it had a side effect of increasing the
depth passed to fdt_next_node() by 1. This is fine most of the time, but
it seems that when the end of the dtb is being parsed, it will cause the
FDT_END condition in fdt_next_node() to return a different value
(returning nextoffset instead of -FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND). This ends up passing
an FDT_ERR_TRUNCATED error back to the unflatten_dt_node() which then
sees that and complains "Error -8 processing FDT" causing boot to fail.
This patch simply avoids incrementing depth and uses modified accesses
for local array indices so that the depth is the same as it was before
the change as far as fdt_next_node() is concerned.
This problem was discovered trying to boot Tegra210-Smaug platforms.

Traditionally we've had two separate branches for cleanups and non-critical
bug fixes, but both of these got smaller with each release and the differences
are rather unclear now, so it seems more appropriate to have a combined
branch.
The most notably change is for OMAP, which gets a small rework to simplify
handling of the AUXDATA mechanism used on machines that are not completely
DT based yet, along with other work that is used as preparation for dropping
the legacy board files.

This adds one more argument to of_fdt_unflatten_tree() to specify
the parent node of the FDT blob that is going to be unflattened.
In the result, the function can be used to unflatten FDT blob that
represents device sub-tree in PowerNV PCI hotplug driver.

In current implementation, unflatten_dt_node() is called recursively
to unflatten device nodes in FDT blob. It's stress to limited stack
capacity, especially to adopt the function to unflatten device sub-tree
that possibly has multiple root nodes. In that case, we runs out of
stack and the system can't boot up successfully.
In order to reuse the function to unflatten device sub-tree, this avoids
calling the function recursively, meaning the device nodes are unflattened
in one call on unflatten_dt_node(): two arrays are introduced to track the
parent path size and the device node of current level of depth, which will
be used by the device node on next level of depth to be unflattened. All
device nodes in more than 64 level of depth are dropped and hopefully,
the system can boot up successfully with the partial device-tree.
Also, the parameter "poffset" and "fpsize" are unused and dropped and the
parameter "dryrun" is figured out from "mem == NULL". Besides, the return
value of the function is changed to indicate the size of memory consumed by
the unflatten device tree or error code.

The function unflatten_dt_node() is called recursively to unflatten
device nodes and properties in the FDT blob. It looks complicated
and hard to be understood.
This splits the function into 3 functions: populate_properties(),
populate_node() and unflatten_dt_node(). populate_properties(),
which is called by populate_node(), creates properties for the
indicated device node. The later one creates the device nodes
from FDT blob. populate_node() gets the offset in FDT blob for
next device nodes and then calls populate_node(). No logical
changes introduced.

The validity of the property input argument to of_remove_property() is
never checked within the function and thus it is possible to pass a null
value. It happens that this will be picked up in __of_remove_property()
as no matching property of the device node will be found and thus an
error will be returned, however once again there is no explicit check
for a null value. By the time this is detected 2 locks have already been
acquired which is completely unnecessary if the property to remove is
null.
Add an explicit check in the function of_remove_property() for a null
property value and return -ENODEV in this case, this is consistent with
what the previous return value would have been when the null value was
not detected and passed to __of_remove_property().
By moving an explicit check for the property paramenter into the
of_remove_property() function, this will remove the need to perform this
check in calling code before invocation of the of_remove_property()
function.

Add a check whether the 'struct device_node' pointer passed to
of_mdiobus_register() is an available (aka enabled) node in the Device
Tree.
Rationale for doing this are cases where an Ethernet MAC provides a MDIO
bus controller and node, and an additional Ethernet MAC might be
connecting its PHY/switches to that first MDIO bus controller, while
still embedding one internally which is therefore marked as "disabled".
Instead of sprinkling checks like these in callers of
of_mdiobus_register(), do this in a central location.

We currently try to match of_dev_auxdata based on compatible,
IO address, and device name. But in some cases we have multiple
instances of drivers that can use the same auxdata.
Let's add an additional secondary lookup for generic compatible
match for auxdata if no device specific match is found. This does
not change the existing matching, and still allows adding device
specific auxdata.
This simplifies things as specifying the IO address and device
name is prone errors as it requires maintaining an in kernel
database for each SoC.
To specify a generic match, all that is needed is to add a
OF_DEV_AUXDATA entry with no device instance specified:
OF_DEV_AUXDATA("pinctrl-single", 0, NULL, &pcs_pdata),
As the auxdata is already initialized only for the booted SoC,
there's not much of a chance of getting things wrong.
Let's also fix two checkpatch warnings while at it to add a
space before parenthesis in the for loop, and remove a comparison
to NULL by using !auxdata->compatible.

early_init_dt_alloc_reserved_memory_arch passes end as 0 to
__memblock_alloc_base, when limits are not specified. But
__memblock_alloc_base takes end value of 0 as MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ACCESSIBLE

never being placed in HIGHMEM area, for e.g. CMA.
Let __memblock_alloc_base allocate from anywhere in memory if limits are

By default, early_init_dt_add_memory_arch() ignores memory below
the base of the kernel image since it won't be addressable via the
linear mapping. However, this is not appropriate anymore once we
decouple the kernel text mapping from the linear mapping, so archs
may want to drop the low limit entirely. So allow the minimum to be
overridden by setting MIN_MEMBLOCK_ADDR.

In __of_find_node_by_full_name, add an of_node_get when detecting the
desired element, to ensure that it ends up with a reference count that is
one greater than on entering the function.
Also in __of_find_node_by_full_name, add an of_node_put on breaking
out of the for_each_child_of_node loop, to ensure that the reference
count of the returned value is not double incremented. This change
was made using Coccinelle.
The semantic patch used for this is as follows:
// <smpl>
@@
expression e;
local idexpression n;
@@
for_each_child_of_node(..., n) {
... when != of_node_put(n)
when != e = n
(
return n;
|
+ of_node_put(n);
? return ...;
)
...
}
// </smpl
Finally, add an of_node_put in for_each_child_of_node in the function
__of_adjust_phandle_ref after the value returned by
__of_find_node_by_full_name is no longer useful.

The existing msi-map code is fine for shifting the entire RID space
upwards, but attempting finer-grained remapping reveals a bug. It turns
out that we are mistakenly treating the msi-base part as an offset, not
as a new base to remap onto, so things get squiffy when rid-base is
nonzero. Fix this, and at the same time add a sanity check against
having msi-map-mask clash with a nonzero rid-base, as that's another
thing one can easily get wrong.

Use a single common table of struct earlycon_id for both command line
and devicetree. Re-define OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE() macro to instance a
unique earlycon declaration (the declaration is only guaranteed to be
unique within a compilation unit; separate compilation units must still
use unique earlycon names).
The semantics of OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE() is different; it declares an
earlycon which can matched either on the command line or by devicetree.
EARLYCON_DECLARE() is semantically unchanged; it declares an earlycon
which is matched by command line only. Remove redundant instances of
EARLYCON_DECLARE().
This enables all earlycons to properly initialize struct console
with the appropriate name and index, which improves diagnostics and
enables direct earlycon-to-console handoff.

Some phy nodes list a compatible value indicating the PHY make/model.
This is never used to match the device to the driver. However it does
confuse the code to separate a PHY from a generic MDIO device like a

list clause 22 or 45, but nothing else.

So far, when trying to associate a device with its MSI domain,
we first lookup the domain using a MSI token, and if this
doesn't return anything useful, we pick up any domain matching
the same node.
This logic is broken for two reasons:
1) Only the generic MSI code (PCI or platform) sets this token
to PCI/MSI or platform MSI. So we're guaranteed that if there
is something to be found, we will find it with the first call.
2) If we have a convoluted situation where:
- a single node implements both wired and MSI interrupts
- MSI support for that HW hasn't been compiled in
we'll end up using the wired domain for MSIs anyway, and things
break badly.
So let's just remove __of_get_msi_domain, and replace it by a direct
call to irq_find_matching_host, because that's what we really want.

Add a single resource to the test bus device to exercise the platform
bus code a little more. This isn't strictly a devicetree test, but it is
a corner case that the devicetree runs into. Until we've got platform
device unittests, it can live here. It doesn't need to be an explicit
text because the kernel will oops when it is wrong.

Currently, of_irq_init() iterates over interrupt controller nodes
with for_each_matching_node(), and then gets each init function with
of_match_node() later.
This routine can be optimized with for_each_matching_node_and_match().
It allows to get the interrupt controller node and its init function
at the same time, saving __of_match_node() callings.

__unflatten_device_tree() calls unflatten_dt_node(), which declares
a static variable. It is therefore not reentrant.
One of the callers of __unflatten_device_tree(), unflatten_device_tree(),
is only called once during early initialization and does not need to be
protected. The other caller, of_fdt_unflatten_tree(), can be called at
any time, possibly multiple times in parallel. This can happen, for
example, if multiple devicetree overlays have to be loaded and installed.
Without this protection, errors such as the following may be seen.
kernel: End of tree marker overwritten: e6a3a458
kernel: find_target_node:
Failed to find target-indirect node at /fragment@0
kernel: __of_overlay_create: of_build_overlay_info() failed for tree@/

In order to check for overlapping reserved memory regions, we first need
to sort the array of memory regions. This is implemented using sort(),
and a custom comparison function __rmem_cmp().
Unfortunatley __rmem_cmp() doesn't work in all cases. Because the two
base values are phys_addr_t, they may be u64 on some platforms, in which
case subtracting one from the other and then (implicitly) casting to int
does not give us the -ve/0/+ve value we need.
This leads to incorrect reports about overlaps, eg:
ibm,slw-image@1ffe600000 (0x0000001ffe600000--0x0000001ffe700000) overlaps with
ibm,firmware-allocs-memory@1000000000 (0x0000001000000000--0x0000001000dc0200)
Fix it by just doing the standard double if and return 0 logic.

drivers: of: of_reserved_mem: fixup the alignment with CMA setup
of: Print rather than WARN'ing when overlap check fails
dt-bindings: ak4554: extension should be .txt
There is an alignment mismatch issue between the of_reserved_mem and
the CMA setup requirement. The of_reserved_mem will try to get the
alignment value from the DTS and pass it to __memblock_alloc_base to
do the memory block base allocation, but the alignment value specified
in the DTS may not satisfy the CAM setup requirement since CMA setup
required the alignment as the following in the code:
align = PAGE_SIZE << max(MAX_ORDER - 1, pageblock_order);
The sanity check in the function of rmem_cma_setup will fail if the
alignment does not setup correctly and thus CMA will fail to setup.
This patch is to fixup the alignment to meet the CMA setup required.

__rmem_check_for_overlap() is called very early in boot, and on some
powerpc systems it's not safe to call WARN that early in boot.
If the overlap check fails the system will oops instead of printing a
warning. Furthermore because it's so early in boot the console is not up
and the user doesn't see the oops, they just get a dead system.
Fix it by printing an error instead of calling WARN.

Enable building all dtb files when CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS is enabled. The dtbs
are not really dependent on a platform being enabled or any other kernel
config, so for testing coverage it is convenient to build all of the dtbs.
In order to only build dtbs, this option can be used by creating an
allno.config file containing:
CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST=y
CONFIG_OF=y
CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS=y
And then running:
make KCONFIG_ALLCONFIG=1 allnoconfig
make dtbs
While building the dtbs themselves don't need a cross compiler, the
scripts dependency does need one. This can be hacked around by
commenting out "subdir-y += mod" in scripts/Makefile.

While msi-parent is used to point to the MSI controller that
works for all the devices behind a root complex, it doesn't
allow configurations where each individual device can be routed
to a separate MSI controller.
The msi-map property provides this flexibility (and much more),
so let's add a utility function that parses it, and return the
corresponding MSI domain.

The msi-map property is also used to identify the MSI controller
as a form of grown-up msi-parent property.
Looking it up is complicated enough, and since of_msi_map_rid
already implements this, let's turn it into an internal utility
function. We'll put that to good use later on.

Now that we have a function that implements the complexity of the
"msi-parent" property parsing, switch to that.

Since 126b16e2ad ("Docs: dt: add generic MSI bindings"),
the definition of "msi-parent" has evolved, while maintaining
some degree of compatibility. It can now express multiple MSI
controllers as parents, as well as some sideband data being
communicated to the controller.
This patch adds the parsing of the property, iterating over
the multiple parents until a suitable irqdomain is found.
It can also fallback to the original parsing if the old
binding is detected.
This support code gets used in the subsequent patches.

Many boards use an alias in the stdout-path specification along
with console options after a colon (e.g. serial0:115200n8). When
using earlycon, this specification currently does not work. While
fdt_path_offset supports alias resolution, it does not remove the
console options by itself. Use the fdt_path_offset_namelen variant
and provide the length of the alias to enable aliases with console
options in the stdout-path.

This patch allows PCI host controller to function even if part of resources
is unusable for some reason. An example is non-LPAE kernel on a machine
which has some 64-bit resources. Unusable resources will be just skipped
instead of a complete failure.

If non-LPAE kernel is booted up on a machine with 64-bit PCI resources,
PCI controller probe fails with:
PCI host bridge /pcie@10000000 ranges:
IO 0x3eff0000..0x3effffff -> 0x00000000
MEM 0x10000000..0x3efeffff -> 0x10000000
MEM 0x8000000000..0xffffffffff -> 0x8000000000
pci-host-generic 3f000000.pcie: resource collision: [mem 0x00000000-0xffffffff] conflicts with /pl011@9000000 [mem 0x09000000-0x09000fff]
pci-host-generic: probe of 3f000000.pcie failed with error -16
This happens because res->start assignment in of_pci_range_to_resource()
truncates the upper part of the address, because res->start is of
phys_addr_t type, which is 32-bit on non-LPAE kernels.
This patch adds explicit recognition of 64-bit resources, preventing from
potential problems when e. g. 0x8000001234 would be converted to
0x00001234.

bus_find_device() is defined as:
* This is similar to the bus_for_each_dev() function above, but it
* returns a reference to a device that is 'found' for later use, as
* determined by the @match callback.
and it does indeed return a reference-counted pointer to the device:
while ((dev = next_device(&i)))
if (match(dev, data) && get_device(dev))
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
break;
klist_iter_exit(&i);
return dev;
What that means is that when we're done with the struct device, we must
drop that reference. Neither of_phy_connect() nor of_phy_attach() did
this when phy_connect_direct() or phy_attach_direct() failed.
With our previous patch, phy_connect_direct() and phy_attach_direct()
take a new refcount on the phy device when successful, so we can drop
our local reference immediatley after these functions, whether or not
they succeeded.

When parsing the memory nodes to populate the memblock memory
table, we check against high and low limits and clip any memory
that exceeds either one of them.
However, for arm64, the high limit of (phys_addr_t)~0 is not very
meaningful, since phys_addr_t is 64 bits (i.e., no limit) but there
may be other constraints that limit the memory ranges that we can
support.
So rename MAX_PHYS_ADDR to MAX_MEMBLOCK_ADDR (for clarity) and only
define it if the arch does not supply a definition of its own.

On UML builds, of_address.c fails to compile:
../drivers/of/address.c:873:2: error: implicit declaration of function ‘ioremap’ [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
This is due to CONFIG_OF now being user selectable. Add a dependency on

Currently the PHY management type is selected by the MAC driver arbitrary.
The decision is based on the presence of the "fixed-link" node and on a
will of the driver's authors.
This caused a regression recently, when mvneta driver suddenly started
to use the in-band status for auto-negotiation on fixed links.
It appears the auto-negotiation may not work when expected by the MAC driver.
Sebastien Rannou explains:
<< Yes, I confirm that my HW does not generate an in-band status. AFAIK, it's
a PHY that aggregates 4xSGMIIs to 1xQSGMII ; the MAC side of the PHY (with
inband status) is connected to the switch through QSGMII, and in this context
we are on the media side of the PHY. >>
https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/7/10/206
This patch introduces the new string property 'managed' that allows
the user to set the management type explicitly.
The supported values are:
"auto" - default. Uses either MDIO or nothing, depending on the presence
of the fixed-link node
"in-band-status" - use in-band status

of_irq_parse_raw() needs to return the correct interrupt controller
node when an interrupt-map property doesn't exist.
It allows of_irq_parse_raw() to return the node pointer of the interrupt
controller, rather than the parent bus. This allows ics_rtas_host_match()
to detect that the controller is a legacy 8259 and avoid using xics.
This avoids an RTAS assertion/crash during early kernel bootstrapping.

I've one other new driver from freescale on my radar, it's been posted
and reviewed, I'd just like to get someone to give it a last look, so
maybe I'll send it or maybe I'll leave it.
There is no major nouveau changes in here, Ben was working on
something big, and we agreed it was a bit late, there wasn't anything
else he considered urgent to merge.
There might be another msm pull for some bits that are waiting on
arm-soc, I'll see how we time it.
This touches some "of" stuff, acks are in place except for the fixes
to the build in various configs,t hat I just applied.

When there are multiple ports or multiple endpoints in a port, they have to be
distinguished by the value of reg property. It is common. The drivers can get
the specific endpoint in the specific port via this function. Now the drivers
have to implement this code in themselves or have to force the order of dt nodes
to get the right node.

With the addition of commit 0166dc1 (of: make CONFIG_OF user
selectable), architectures which don't enable memblock and don't
have their own early_init_dt_*_memory_arch implementations will break
when CONFIG_OF is enabled.
Really, we should have better separation of CONFIG_OF and
CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE, but doing that will require quite a bit of
shuffling of architecture code. That will have to wait for another day.

The DT unittest currently requires an arch (typically) to select
OF_EARLY_FLATTREE. Remove this dependency by selecting it directly so that
the unittest can be enabled easily on any architecture. With this and the
prior commit, we can easily enable and run unittests starting with x86
defconfig rather than hunting for the combination of config options to
enable OF on x86.

This splits off the reservation of the memory occupied by the FDT
binary itself from the processing of the memory reservations it
contains. This is necessary because the physical address of the FDT,
which is needed to perform the reservation, may not be known to the
FDT driver core, i.e., it may be mapped outside the linear direct
mapping, in which case __pa() returns a bogus value.

It's a common operation for device drivers to retrive the data
member from of_device_id struct in their probe function.
Most driver end up doing:
const struct of_device_id *match;
match = of_match_device(driver_of_match, &pdev->dev);
driver->data = match->data;
With the of_device_get_match_data helper function all this can
done in one go.

Commit 5590f3196b ("drivers/core/of: Add symlink to device-tree from
devices with an OF node") adds the symlink `of_node` for each device
pointing to it's device tree node while creating/initialising it.
However the devicetree sysfs is created and setup in of_init which is
executed at core_initcall level. For all the devices created before
of_init, the following error is thrown:
"Error -2(-ENOENT) creating of_node link"
Like many other components in driver model, initialize the sysfs support
for OF/devicetree from driver_init so that it's ready before any devices
are created.

SoC peripherals can come in several different flavors:
- little-endian: registers always need to be accessed in LE mode (so the
kernel should perform a swap if the CPU is running BE)
- big-endian: registers always need to be accessed in BE mode (so the
kernel should perform a swap if the CPU is running LE)
- native-endian: the bus will automatically swap accesses, so the kernel
should never swap
Introduce a function that checks an OF device node to see whether it
contains a "big-endian" or "native-endian" property. For the former case,
always return true. For the latter case, return true iff the kernel was
built for BE (implying that the BE MMIO accessors do not perform a swap).
Otherwise return false, assuming LE registers.
LE registers are assumed by default because most existing drivers (libahci,
serial8250, usb) always use readl/writel in the absence of instructions
to the contrary, so that will be our fallback.

Commit 51975db0b7 ("of/flattree: merge early_init_dt_scan_memory()
common code") consolidated some code from PowerPC (typically
big-endian), and ended-up adding a pr_debug() printing reg properties in
big-endian (DT native) format, not CPU endian.
This debug print suffers from two problems:
- we only print 4 "reg" values, while there could be more on typical
systems having multiple memory ranges
- we print these 4 "reg" values in FDT endianess, that is big-endian,
and these values could be confusing for little-endian configurations
Since we are already printing the base address and size of the memory
regions parsed by early_init_dt_scan_memory() later in a way that is
both endian correct, and takes into account arbitrary number of memory
banks, just remove that part of the debug print.

The previous commit, "of/unittest: early return from test skips tests"
exposed broken tests for the of_platform_unpopulate() function. The
problem was the populate and depopulate calls were not symmetrical like
they were intended to be, and unpopulate depends on the parent device to
have it's of_node pointer pointing to the parent device node. Fix these
bugs so that the test case works correctly.
In the process, the test_bus used as a container for the test devices
has been changed from a statically allocated struct device (which is
bad) to a properly allocated device with a .release() method (which is
good). This stops the test code from being a bad example of abusing the
device model.
