16dc224f1c drm/i915: Replace the hardcoded I915_FENCE_TIMEOUT
Expose the hardcoded timeout for unsignaled foreign fences as a Kconfig
option, primarily to allow brave systems to disable the timeout and
solely rely on correct signaling.

16e8745967 drm/i915/gt: Move the batch buffer pool from the engine to the gt
Since the introduction of 'soft-rc6', we aim to park the device quickly
and that results in frequent idling of the whole device. Currently upon
idling we free the batch buffer pool, and so this renders the cache
ineffective for many workloads. If we want to have an effective cache of
recently allocated buffers available for reuse, we need to decouple that
cache from the engine powermanagement and make it timer based. As there
is no reason then to keep it within the engine (where it once made
retirement order easier to track), we can move it up the hierarchy to the
owner of the memory allocations.

be1cb55a07 drm/i915/gt: Keep a no-frills swappable copy of the default context state
We need to keep the default context state around to instantiate new
contexts (aka golden rendercontext), and we also keep it pinned while
the engine is active so that we can quickly reset a hanging context.
However, the default contexts are large enough to merit keeping in
swappable memory as opposed to kernel memory, so we store them inside
shmemfs. Currently, we use the normal GEM objects to create the default
context image, but we can throw away all but the shmemfs file.

This greatly simplifies the tricky power management code which wants to
run underneath the normal GT locking, and we definitely do not want to
use any high level objects that may appear to recurse back into the GT.
Though perhaps the primary advantage of the complex GEM object is that
we aggressively cache the mapping, but here we are recreating the
vm_area everytime time we unpark. At the worst, we add a lightweight
cache, but first find a microbenchmark that is impacted.

Having started to create some utility functions to make working with
shmemfs objects easier, we can start putting them to wider use, where
GEM objects are overkill, such as storing persistent error state.

9c878557b1 drm/i915/gt: Use the RPM config register to determine clk frequencies
For many configuration details within RC6 and RPS we are programming
intervals for the internal clocks. From gen11, these clocks are
configuration via the RPM_CONFIG and so for convenience, we would like
to convert to/from more natural units (ns).

8192e551c7 drm/i915: remove always-defined CONFIG_AS_MOVNTDQA
CONFIG_AS_MOVNTDQA was introduced by commit 0b1de5d58e ("drm/i915:
Use SSE4.1 movntdqa to accelerate reads from WC memory").

We raise the minimal supported binutils version from time to time.
The last bump was commit 1fb12b35e5 ("kbuild: Raise the minimum
required binutils version to 2.21").

I confirmed the code in $(call as-instr,...) can be assembled by the
binutils 2.21 assembler and also by LLVM integrated assembler.

Remove CONFIG_AS_MOVNTDQA, which is always defined.

293a554801 drm/i915/uc: Move uC debugfs to its own folder under GT
uC is a component of the GT, so it makes sense for the uC debugfs files
to be in the GT folder. A subfolder has been used to keep the same
structure we have for the code.

    fix permissions for writable debugfs files.

9aba9c188d drm/i915/perf: remove generated code
A little bit of history :

   Back when i915-perf was introduced (4.13), there was no way to
   dynamically add new OA configurations to i915. Only the generated
   configs baked in at build time were allowed.

   It quickly became obvious that we would need to allow applications
   to upload their own configurations, for instance to be able to test
   new ones, and so by the next stable version (4.14) we added uAPIs
   to allow uploading new configurations.

   When adding that capability, we took the opportunity to remove most
   HW configurations except the TestOa one which is a configuration
   IGT would rely on to verify that the HW is outputting correct
   values. At the time it made sense to have that confiuration in at
   the same time a given HW platform added to the i915-perf driver.

Now that IGT has become the reference point for HW configurations (see
commit 53f8f541ca ("lib: Add i915_perf library"), previously this was
located in the GPUTop repository), the need for having those
configurations in i915-perf is gone.

On the Mesa side, we haven't relied on this test configuration for a
while. The MDAPI library always required 4.14 feature level and always
loaded its configuration into i915.

I'm sure nobody will miss this generated stuff in i915 :)

47f8253d2b drm/i915/gen7: Clear all EU/L3 residual contexts
On gen7 and gen7.5 devices, there could be leftover data residuals in
EU/L3 from the retiring context. This patch introduces workaround to clear
that residual contexts, by submitting a batch buffer with dedicated HW
context to the GPU with ring allocation for each context switching.

This security mitigation changes does not triggers any performance
regression. Performance is on par with current drm-tips.

and addressed use of Kernel macro for ptr_align comment.

4ec76dbeb6 drm/i915/gt: Expose engine properties via sysfs
Preliminary stub to add engines underneath /sys/class/drm/cardN/, so
that we can expose properties on each engine to the sysadmin.

To start with we have basic analogues of the i915_query ioctl so that we
can pretty print engine discovery from the shell, and flesh out the
directory structure. Later we will add writeable sysadmin properties such
as per-engine timeout controls.

d28ae3b281 drm/i915: split out intel_dram.[ch] from i915_drv.c
The DRAM related routines are pretty isolated from the rest of the
i915_drv.c, split it out to a separate file. Put the eDRAM stuff in the
same bag, and rename the visible functions to have intel_dram_
prefix. Do some benign whitespace fixes and dev_priv -> i915 conversions
while at it.

926b005cd8 drm/i915: split out display debugfs to a separate file
The i915_debugfs.c has grown more than a little unwieldy. Split out the
display related debugfs code to a file of its own under display/,
initialized with a separate call. No functional changes.

0ef1905ecf drm/i915: Introduce better global state handling
Our current global state handling is pretty ad-hoc. Let's try to
make it better by imitating the standard drm core private object
approach.

The reason why we don't want to directly use the private objects
is locking; Each private object has its own lock so if we
introduce any global private objects we get serialized by that
single lock across all pipes. The global state apporoach instead
uses a read/write lock type of approach where each individual
crtc lock counts as a read lock, and grabbing all the crtc locks
allows one write access.

c43c5a8818 drm/i915/params: add i915 parameters to debugfs
Add a debugfs subdirectory i915_params with all the i915 module
parameters. This is a first step, with lots of boilerplate, and not much
benefit yet.

This will result in a new device specific debugfs directory at
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/<N>/i915_params duplicating the module specific
sysfs directory at /sys/module/i915/parameters/. Going forward, all
users of the parameters should use the debugfs, with the module
parameters being phased out.

Add debugfs permissions to I915_PARAMS_FOR_EACH(). This duplicates the
mode with module parameter sysfs, but the goal is to make the module
parameters read-only initial values for device specific parameters.

0 mode will bypass debugfs creation. Use it for verbose_state_checks
which will need special attention in follow-up work.

c6d4a099a2 drm/i915: reimplement header test feature
I implemented a small build rule in drivers/gpu/drm/i915/Makefile
without relying on the special header-test-y syntax that was removed in
commit fcbb8461fd ("kbuild: remove header compile test").

I excluded some headers from the test coverage. I hope somebody
intrested can take a closer look at them.

Dummy subdir Makefiles can be removed altogether as single target build
use case is now covered by commit 394053f4a4 ("kbuild: make single
targets work more correctly").

9dd4b06544 drm/i915/gt: Move pm debug files into a gt aware debugfs
The GT system is becoming more and more a stand-alone system in
i915 and it's fair to assign it its own debugfs directory.

Provide a utility function to create a vma corresponding to an mmap() of
our device. And use it to exercise the equivalent of userspace
performing a GTT mmap of our objects.

The design of the OA unit has been split into several units. We now
have a global unit (OAG) and a render specific unit (OAR). This leads
to some changes on how we program things. Some details :

OAR:
  - has its own set of counter registers, they are per-context
    saved/restored
  - counters are not written to the circular OA buffer
  - a snapshot of the counters can be acquired with
    MI_RECORD_PERF_COUNT, or a single counter can be read with
    MI_STORE_REGISTER_MEM.

OAG:
  - has global counters that increment across context switches
  - counters are written into the circular OA buffer (if requested)

b5e8e954eb drm/i915/gt: Introduce barrier pulses along engines
To flush idle barriers, and even inflight requests, we want to send a
preemptive 'pulse' along an engine. We use a no-op request along the
pinned kernel_context at high priority so that it should run or else
kick off the stuck requests. We can use this to ensure idle barriers are
immediately flushed, as part of a context cancellation mechanism, or as
part of a heartbeat mechanism to detect and reset a stuck GPU.

232a6ebae4 drm/i915: introduce intel_memory_region
Support memory regions, as defined by a given (start, end), and allow
creating GEM objects which are backed by said region. The immediate goal
here is to have something to represent our device memory, but later on
we also want to represent every memory domain with a region, so stolen,
shmem, and of course device. At some point we are probably going to want
use a common struct here, such that we are better aligned with say TTM.

Kbuild provides per-file compiler flag addition/removal:

  AFLAGS_REMOVE_<basetarget>.o
  CPPFLAGS_<basetarget>.lds
  HOSTCFLAGS_<basetarget>.o
  HOSTCXXFLAGS_<basetarget>.o

The <basetarget> is the filename of the target with its directory and
suffix stripped.

This syntax comes into a trouble when two files with the same basename
appear in one Makefile, for example:

  obj-y += foo.o
  obj-y += dir/foo.o
  CFLAGS_foo.o := <some-flags>

Here, the <some-flags> applies to both foo.o and dir/foo.o

The real world problem is:

  scripts/kconfig/util.c
  scripts/kconfig/lxdialog/util.c

Both files are compiled into scripts/kconfig/mconf, but only the
latter should be given with the ncurses flags.

It is more sensible to use the relative path to the Makefile, like this:

  obj-y += foo.o
  CFLAGS_foo.o := <some-flags>
  obj-y += dir/foo.o
  CFLAGS_dir/foo.o := <other-flags>

At first, I attempted to replace $(basetarget) with $*. The $* variable
is replaced with the stem ('%') part in a pattern rule. This works with
most of cases, but does not for explicit rules.

For example, arch/ia64/lib/Makefile reuses rule_as_o_S in its own
explicit rules, so $* will be empty, resulting in ignoring the per-file
AFLAGS.

I introduced a new variable, target-stem, which can be used also from
explicit rules.

cf1c97dcb9 drm/i915: Extract general GT interrupt handlers
i915_irq.c is large. It serves as the central dispatch and handler for
all of our device interrupts. Lets break it up by pulling out the GT
interrupt handlers.

d762043f7a drm/i915: Extract GT powermanagement interrupt handling
i915_irq.c is large. It serves as the central dispatch and handler for
all of our device interrupts. Pull out the GT pm interrupt handling
(leaving the central dispatch) so that we can encapsulate the logic a
little better.

14d1b9a624 drm/i915: buddy allocator
Simple buddy allocator. We want to allocate properly aligned
power-of-two blocks to promote usage of huge-pages for the GTT, so 64K,
2M and possibly even 1G. While we do support allocating stuff at a
specific offset, it is more intended for preallocating portions of the
address space, say for an initial framebuffer, for other uses drm_mm is
probably a much better fit. Anyway, hopefully this can all be thrown
away if we eventually move to having the core MM manage device memory.
