2a298679b4 USB patches for 4.2-rc1
Here's the big USB patchset for 4.2-rc1. As is normal these days, the
 majority of changes are in the gadget drivers, with a bunch of other
 small driver changes.

 All of these have been in linux-next with no reported issues.

d6d22922d9 usb: gadget: rndis: remove the limit of available rndis connections
RNDIS function has a limitation on the number of allowed instances.
So far it has been RNDIS_MAX_CONFIGS, which happens to be one.
In order to eliminate this kind of arbitrary limitation we should not
preallocate a predefined (RNDIS_MAX_CONFIGS) array of struct rndis_params
instances but instead allow allocating them on demand.

This patch allocates struct rndis_params on demand in rndis_register().
Coversly, the structure is free()'d in rndis_deregister().
If CONFIG_USB_GADGET_DEBUG_FILES is set, the proc files are created which
is the same behaviour as before, but the moment of creation is delayed
until struct rndis_params is actually allocated.

rnids_init() and rndis_exit() have nothing to do, so they are eliminated.

e3aa205aa1 Documentation usb serial: fixed how to provide vendor and product id
While trying to test a Cinterion GSM/GPS/3G module I had reconfigured
the USB interface by mistake and therefore needed to run a different
USB driver than CDC-ACM. It turned out that I need the "usbserial" driver.

This file is an official description how to use it:
Documentation/usb/usb-serial.txt

But it is outdated. The parameters vendor= and product= have been
superseded by a /sys interface.

Here was the solution:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=175499

  insmod usbserial vendor=0x#### product=0x####

becomes (first #### is vendor, second is product)

  modprobe usbserial
  echo #### #### >/sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/generic/new_id

This patch changes the documentation file to describe the modern variant.
Please note that the old one still works (if compiled as module).

1c41a9570a usb: patches for v4.1 merge window
As usual, a big pile of commits. This time a total
 of 111 non-merge commits.

 Other than the usual set of cleanups and non-critical
 fixes, we have some interesting work for AM335x's MUSB
 babble recovery. Now that takes a lot less time and we
 don't have to Reset MUSB all the time.

 The printer gadget has been converted to configfs interface
 and the atmel udc has learned suspend/resume with wakeup.

4d4bac4499 usb: patches for v3.20 merge window
Here's the big pull request for Gadgets and PHYs. It's
 a total of 217 non-merge commits with pretty much everything
 being touched.

 The most important bits are a ton of new documentation for
 almost all usb gadget functions, a new isp1760 UDC driver,
 several improvements to the old net2280 UDC driver, and
 some minor tracepoint improvements to dwc3.

 Other than that, a big list of minor cleanups, smaller bugfixes
 and new features all over the place.

Merge tag 'usb-serial-3.19-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/johan/usb-serial into usb-next

Johan writes:

USB-serial updates for v3.19-rc1

These changes add a new "simple" driver for Google USB-serial
devices and add support for Huawei Gobi modems to qcserial.

Included are also some removals of unnecessary atomic allocations and
a few spelling fixes.

005799d560 uwb: doc: bring uwb documentation up to date
The existing UWB documentation states that UWB devices show up in
/sys/class/uwb and /sys/bus/uwb/devices. Up until the most recent
changes to add uwb devices to their own bus, neither of these statements
were actually true. Now, UWB devices do show up in /sys/bus/uwb/devices
so the documentation has been updated to reflect that and removed
references to /sys/class/uwb.

The existing documentation also states that local UWB radio controller
(RC) devices also show up as UWB devices along with their wireless peer
UWB devices under /sys/class/uwb. This is not true so that statement
has been removed.

85721d4526 USB: URB documentation: claim complete() will be run with IRQs enabled
There is no good reason to run complete() in hard interrupt
disabled context.

After switch to run complete() in tasklet, we will enable local IRQs
when calling complete() since we can do it at that time.

Even though we still disable IRQs now when calling complete()
in tasklet, the URB documentation is updated to claim complete()
will be run in tasklet context and local IRQs will be enabled, so
that USB drivers can know the change and avoid one deadlock caused
by: assume IRQs disabled in complete() and call spin_lock() to
hold lock which might be acquired in interrupt context.

Current spin_lock() usages in drivers' complete() will be cleaned
up at the same time, and once the cleanup is finished, local IRQs
will be enabled when calling complete() in tasklet.

Also fix description about type of usb_complete_t, and remove the
advice of running completion handler in tasklet for decreasing
system latency.

72246da40f usb: Introduce DesignWare USB3 DRD Driver
The DesignWare USB3 is a highly
configurable IP Core which can be
instantiated as Dual-Role Device (DRD),
Peripheral Only and Host Only (XHCI)
configurations.

Several other parameters can be configured
like amount of FIFO space, amount of TX and
RX endpoints, amount of Host Interrupters,
etc.

The current driver has been validated with
a virtual model of version 1.73a of that core
and with an FPGA burned with version 1.83a
of the DRD core. We have support for PCIe
bus, which is used on FPGA prototyping, and
for the OMAP5, more adaptation (or glue)
layers can be easily added and the driver
is half prepared to handle any possible
configuration the HW engineer has chosen
considering we have the information on
one of the GHWPARAMS registers to do
runtime checking of certain features.

More runtime checks can, and should, be added
in order to make this driver even more flexible
with regards to number of endpoints, FIFO sizes,
transfer types, etc.

While this supports only the device side, for
now, we will add support for Host side (xHCI -
see the updated series Sebastian has sent [1])
and OTG after we have it all stabilized.

cc62a7eb63 USB: EHCI: Allow users to override 80% max periodic bandwidth
There are cases, when 80% max isochronous bandwidth is too limiting.

For example I have two USB video capture cards which stream uncompressed
video, and to stream full NTSC + PAL videos we'd need

    NTSC 640x480 YUV422 @30fps      ~17.6 MB/s
    PAL  720x576 YUV422 @25fps      ~19.7 MB/s

isoc bandwidth.

Now, due to limited alt settings in capture devices NTSC one ends up
streaming with max_pkt_size=2688 and PAL with max_pkt_size=2892, both
with interval=1. In terms of microframe time allocation this gives

    NTSC    ~53us
    PAL     ~57us

and together

    ~110us  >  100us == 80% of 125us uframe time.

So those two devices can't work together simultaneously because the'd
over allocate isochronous bandwidth.

80% seemed a bit arbitrary to me, and I've tried to raise it to 90% and
both devices started to work together, so I though sometimes it would be
a good idea for users to override hardcoded default of max 80% isoc
bandwidth.

After all, isn't it a user who should decide how to load the bus? If I
can live with 10% or even 5% bulk bandwidth that should be ok. I'm a USB
newcomer, but that 80% set in stone by USB 2.0 specification seems to be
chosen pretty arbitrary to me, just to serve as a reasonable default.

NOTE 1
~~~~~~
for two streams with max_pkt_size=3072 (worst case) both time
allocation would be 60us+60us=120us which is 96% periodic bandwidth
leaving 4% for bulk and control.  Alan Stern suggested that bulk then
would be problematic (less than 300*8 bittimes left per microframe), but
I think that is still enough for control traffic.
NOTE 2
~~~~~~

Sarah Sharp expressed concern that maxing out periodic bandwidth
could lead to vendor-specific hardware bugs on host controllers, because

> It's entirely possible that you'll run into
> vendor-specific bugs if you try to pack the schedule with isochronous
> transfers. I don't think any hardware designer would seriously test or
> validate their hardware with a schedule that is basically a violation of
> the USB bus spec (more than 80% for periodic transfers).

So far I've only tested this patch on my HP Mini 5103 with N10 chipset

    kirr@mini:~$ lspci

    01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
    02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 11)

and the system works stable with 110us/uframe (~88%) isoc bandwith allocated for
above-mentioned isochronous transfers.

NOTE 3
~~~~~~
This feature is off by default. I mean max periodic bandwidth is set to
100us/uframe by default exactly as it was before the patch. So only those of us
who need the extreme settings are taking the risk - normal users who do not
alter uframe_periodic_max sysfs attribute should not see any change at all.
NOTE 4
~~~~~~

I've tried to update documentation in Documentation/ABI/ thoroughly, but
only "TBD" was put into Documentation/usb/ehci.txt -- the text there seems
to be outdated and much needing refreshing, before it could be amended.

a9e758634f USB: Fix up URB error codes to reflect implementation.
Documentation/usb/error-codes.txt mentions that urb->status can be set to
-EXDEV, if the isochronous transfer was not fully completed. However, in
practice, EHCI, UHCI, and OHCI all only set -EXDEV in the individual frame
status, never in the URB status. Those host controller actually always
pass in a zero status to usb_hcd_giveback_urb, and rely on the core to set
the appropriate status value.

The xHCI driver ran into issues with the uvcvideo driver when it tried to
set -EXDEV in urb->status, because the driver refused to submit URBs, and
the userspace camera application's video froze.

Clean up the documentation to reflect the actual implementation.

6498d9db6d USB: documentation update for the pre_reset method
This patch (as1459) updates the documentation for the pre_reset method
in struct usb_driver. When a driver is notified of an impending
reset, it must cancel all outstanding I/O and not start any new I/O
until it has been notified that the reset is complete.

As far as I know, most existing drivers that implement pre_reset do
this now. The major exceptions appear to be the SpeedTouch and
CDC-WDM drivers.

is that USB devices will now have two suspend-delay attributes: the

0ea6e61122 Documentation: update broken web addresses.
Below you will find an updated version from the original series bunching all patches into one big patch
updating broken web addresses that are located in Documentation/*
Some of the addresses date as far far back as 1995 etc... so searching became a bit difficult,
the best way to deal with these is to use web.archive.org to locate these addresses that are outdated.
Now there are also some addresses pointing to .spec files some are located, but some(after searching
on the companies site)where still no where to be found. In this case I just changed the address
to the company site this way the users can contact the company and they can locate them for the users.
