The refcount_t type and corresponding API should be used instead of
atomic_t when the variable is used as a reference counter.
This allows to avoid accidental refcounter overflows that might lead to
use-after-free situations.

We can't avoid this complexity. Since we deliberately drop records from
overwritable ring buffer, there's no way for us to check remaining from
ring buffer itself (by checking head and old pointers). Therefore, we
need DATA_PENDING and EMPTY state to help us recording what we have done
to the ring buffer.
In record__mmap_read_evlist(), drive this state machine from DATA_PENDING
to EMPTY.
In perf_evlist__mmap_per_evsel(), drive this state machine from NOTREADY
to RUNNING when creating backward mmap.

Currently, the evlist mmap related helpers and APIs accept evlist and
idx, and dereference 'struct perf_mmap' by evlist->mmap[idx]. This is
unnecessary, and force each evlist contains only one mmap array.
Following commits are going to introduce multiple mmap arrays to a
evlist. This patch refators these APIs and helpers, introduces
functions accept perf_mmap pointer directly. New helpers and APIs are
decoupled with perf_evlist, and become perf_mmap functions (so they have
perf_mmap prefix).
Old functions are reimplemented with new functions. Some of them will be
removed in following commits.

perf_evlist__toggle_{pause,resume}() are introduced to pause/resume
events in an evlist. Utilize PERF_EVENT_IOC_PAUSE_OUTPUT ioctl.

perf_evlist__mmap_read_backward() is introduced for reading backward
ring buffer. Since direction for reading such ring buffer is different
from the direction kernel writing to it, and since user need to fetch
most recent record from it, a perf_evlist__mmap_read_catchup() is
introduced to move the reading pointer to the end of the buffer.

When the user doesn't set --mmap-pages, perf_evlist__mmap() will do it
by reading the maximum possible for a non-root user from the
/proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_mlock_kb file.
Expose that function so that 'perf trace' can, for root users, to bump
mmap-pages to a higher value for root, based on the contents of this
proc file.

Commit d49e469507 ("perf evsel: Add a backpointer to the evlist a
evsel is in") updated perf_evlist__add() but not
perf_evlist__splice_list_tail().
This illustrates that it is better if perf_evlist__splice_list_tail()
calls perf_evlist__add() instead of duplicating the logic, so do that.
This will also simplify a subsequent fix for propagating maps.

Subsequent patches will need to call perf_evlist__propagate_maps without
reference to a "target". Add evlist->has_user_cpus to record whether
the user has specified which cpus to target (and therefore whether that
list of cpus should override the default settings for a selected event
i.e. the cpu maps should be propagated)

The validation checks that the values that were just assigned, got
assigned i.e. the error can't ever happen. Subsequent patches will call
this code in places where errors are not being returned. Changing those
code paths to return this non-existent error is counter-productive, so
just remove it.
That in turn results in perf_evlist__set_maps not needing to return an
error, but callers aren't checking it either, so remove that too.

This patch supports the addition to the kernel of AUX area buffers that
can be mmapped separately from the perf-events buffer.
The AUX buffer can be configured to contain hardware-produced trace
information. The first implementation will support Intel BTS and Intel
PT.
One auxtrace buffer is mmapped per perf-events buffer. If the requested
auxtrace buffer size is zero, which it will be until further support is
added, then no auxtrace mmapping is attempted.

The data_head and data_tail fields are defined as __u64 in
linux/perf_event.h, but perf userspace uses int and unsigned int.
Convert all references to u64 for consistency.

Use of a bad filter currently generates the message:
Error: failed to set filter with 22 (Invalid argument)
Add the event name to make it clear to which event the filter
failed to apply:
Error: Failed to set filter "foo" on event sched:sg_lb_stats: 22: Invalid argument
To test it use something like:
# perf record -e sched:sched_switch -e sched:*fork --filter parent_pid==1 -e sched:*wait* --filter bla usleep 1

perf evlist: Refcount mmaps
We need to know how many fds are using a perf mmap via
PERF_EVENT_IOC_SET_OUTPUT, so that we can know when to ditch an mmap,
refcount it.
This commit added 'int refcnt' to struct perf_mmap and the addition makes the
event_copy element no longer 8-byte aligned.
Fix by adding __attribute__((aligned(8))) to the event_copy struct
member.

v2: Automatically unmap it when the refcount hits one, which will happen

The extensible file description array that grew in the perf_evlist class
can be useful for other tools, as it is not something that only evlists
need, so move it to tools/lib/api/fd to ease sharing it.
