Merge tag 'stream_open-5.2' of https://lab.nexedi.com/kirr/linux

Pull stream_open conversion from Kirill Smelkov:

 - remove unnecessary double nonseekable_open from drivers/char/dtlk.c
   as noticed by Pavel Machek while reviewing nonseekable_open ->
   stream_open mass conversion.

 - the mass conversion patch promised in commit 10dce8af34 ("fs:
   stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write can
   run simultaneously without deadlock") and is automatically generated
   by running

        $ make coccicheck MODE=patch COCCI=scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci

   I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to
   convert - and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is
   either not correct to convert there, or that it is not converted due
   to current stream_open.cocci limitations. More details on this in the
   patch.

 - finally, change VFS to pass ppos=NULL into .read/.write for files
   that declare themselves streams. It was suggested by Rasmus Villemoes
   and makes sure that if ppos starts to be erroneously used in a stream
   file, such bug won't go unnoticed and will produce an oops instead of
   creating illusion of position change being taken into account.

   Note: this patch does not conflict with "fuse: Add FOPEN_STREAM to
   use stream_open()" that will be hopefully coming via FUSE tree,
   because fs/fuse/ uses new-style .read_iter/.write_iter, and for these
   accessors position is still passed as non-pointer kiocb.ki_pos .

c5bf68fe0c *: convert stream-like files from nonseekable_open -> stream_open
Using scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci added in 10dce8af34
("fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write
can run simultaneously without deadlock"), search and convert to
stream_open all in-kernel nonseekable_open users for which read and
write actually do not depend on ppos and where there is no other methods
in file_operations which assume @offset access.

I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert -
and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct
to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci
limitations. The script also does not convert files that should be valid to
convert, but that currently have .llseek = noop_llseek or generic_file_llseek
for unknown reason despite file being opened with nonseekable_open (e.g.
drivers/input/mousedev.c)

Among cases converted 14 were potentially vulnerable to read vs write deadlock
(see details in 10dce8af34):

	drivers/char/pcmcia/cm4000_cs.c:1685:7-23: ERROR: cm4000_fops: .read() can deadlock .write(); change nonseekable_open -> stream_open to fix.

	net/rfkill/core.c:1146:8-24: ERROR: rfkill_fops: .read() can deadlock .write(); change nonseekable_open -> stream_open to fix.

and the rest were just safe to convert to stream_open because their read and
write do not use ppos at all and corresponding file_operations do not
have methods that assume @offset file access(*):

One can also recheck/review the patch via generating it with explanation comments included via

	$ make coccicheck MODE=patch COCCI=scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci SPFLAGS="-D explain"

(*) This second group also contains cases with read/write deadlocks that
stream_open.cocci don't yet detect, but which are still valid to convert to
stream_open since ppos is not used. For example drivers/pci/switch/switchtec.c
calls wait_for_completion_interruptible() in its .read, but stream_open.cocci
currently detects only "wait_event*" as blocking.

4ae987894c s390: fix clang -Wpointer-sign warnigns in boot code
The arch/s390/boot directory is built with its own set of compiler
options that does not include -Wno-pointer-sign like the rest of
the kernel does, this causes a lot of harmless but correct warnings
when building with clang.

For the atomics, we can add type casts to avoid the warnings, for
everything else the easiest way is to slightly adapt the types
to be more consistent.

087c4d7423 s390/sclp: do not use static sccbs
The sccbs for init/read/sdias/early have to be located below 2 GB, and
they are currently defined as a static buffer.

With a relocatable kernel that could reside at any place in memory, this
will no longer guarantee the location below 2 GB, so use a dynamic
GFP_DMA allocation instead.

The sclp_early_sccb buffer needs special handling, as it can be used
very early, and by both the decompressor and also the decompressed
kernel. Therefore, a fixed 4 KB buffer is introduced at 0x11000, the
former PARMAREA_END. The new PARMAREA_END is now 0x12000, and it is
renamed to HEAD_END, as it is rather the end of head.S and not the end
of the parmarea.

f3df44e7c9 s390/zcore: Rename ipl_block to mitigate name collision
With git commit 1e941d3949
"s390: move ipl block to .boot.preserved.data section" the earl_ipl_block
got renamed to ipl_block and became publicly available via boot_data.h.
This might cause problems with zcore, which has it's own ipl_block
variable. Thus rename the ipl_block in zcore to prevent name collision
and highlight that it's only used locally.

b7cb707c37 s390/smp: fix CPU hotplug deadlock with CPU rescan
smp_rescan_cpus() is called without the device_hotplug_lock, which can lead
to a dedlock when a new CPU is found and immediately set online by a udev
rule.

This was observed on an older kernel version, where the cpu_hotplug_begin()
loop was still present, and it resulted in hanging chcpu and systemd-udev
processes. This specific deadlock will not show on current kernels. However,
there may be other possible deadlocks, and since smp_rescan_cpus() can still
trigger a CPU hotplug operation, the device_hotplug_lock should be held.

For reference, this was the deadlock with the old cpu_hotplug_begin() loop:

        chcpu (rescan)                       systemd-udevd

 echo 1 > /sys/../rescan
 -> smp_rescan_cpus()
 -> (*) get_online_cpus()
    (increases refcount)
 -> smp_add_present_cpu()
    (new CPU found)
 -> register_cpu()
 -> device_add()
 -> udev "add" event triggered -----------> udev rule sets CPU online
                                         -> echo 1 > /sys/.../online
                                         -> lock_device_hotplug_sysfs()
                                            (this is missing in rescan path)
                                         -> device_online()
                                         -> (**) device_lock(new CPU dev)
                                         -> cpu_up()
                                         -> cpu_hotplug_begin()
                                            (loops until refcount == 0)
                                            -> deadlock with (*)
 -> bus_probe_device()
 -> device_attach()
 -> device_lock(new CPU dev)
    -> deadlock with (**)

Fix this by taking the device_hotplug_lock in the CPU rescan path.

6966d604e2 s390/mem_detect: move tprot loop to early boot phase
Move memory detection to early boot phase. To store online memory

55a5542a54 s390/hibernate: fix error handling when suspend cpu != resume cpu
The resume code checks if the resume cpu is the same as the suspend cpu.
If not, and if it is also not possible to switch to the suspend cpu, an
error message should be printed and the resume process should be stopped
by loading a disabled wait psw.

The current logic is broken in multiple ways, the message is never printed,
and the disabled wait psw never loaded because the kernel panics before that:
- sam31 and SIGP_SET_ARCHITECTURE to ESA mode is wrong, this will break
  on the first 64bit instruction in sclp_early_printk().
- The init stack should be used, but the stack pointer is not set up correctly
  (missing aghi %r15,-STACK_FRAME_OVERHEAD).
- __sclp_early_printk() checks the sclp_init_state. If it is not
  sclp_init_state_uninitialized, it simply returns w/o printing anything.
  In the resumed kernel however, sclp_init_state will never be uninitialized.

This patch fixes those issues by removing the sam31/ESA logic, adding a
correct init stack pointer, and also introducing sclp_early_printk_force()
to allow using sclp_early_printk() even when sclp_init_state is not
uninitialized.

fad953ce0b treewide: Use array_size() in vzalloc()
The vzalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:

        vzalloc(a * b)

as well as handling cases of:

        vzalloc(a * b * c)

with:

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        vzalloc(4 * 1024)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

6da2ec5605 treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array()
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This
patch replaces cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b, gfp)

with:
        kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own
implementation of kmalloc().

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

   corruptions

 - Add an interface to get the physical network ID (pnetid), this is
   useful to group network devices that are attached to the same network

 - Some cleanup for the linker script

 - Some code improvement for the dasd driver

 - Two fixes for the perf sampling support

0bbcce5d1e Merge branch 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull timers and timekeeping updates from Thomas Gleixner:

 - Core infrastucture work for Y2038 to address the COMPAT interfaces:

     + Add a new Y2038 safe __kernel_timespec and use it in the core
       code

     + Introduce config switches which allow to control the various
       compat mechanisms

     + Use the new config switch in the posix timer code to control the
       32bit compat syscall implementation.

 - Prevent bogus selection of CPU local clocksources which causes an
   endless reselection loop

 - Remove the extra kthread in the clocksource code which has no value
   and just adds another level of indirection

 - The usual bunch of trivial updates, cleanups and fixlets all over the
   place

 - More SPDX conversions

0d55303c51 compat: Move compat_timespec/ timeval to compat_time.h
All the current architecture specific defines for these
are the same. Refactor these common defines to a common
header file.

The new common linux/compat_time.h is also useful as it
will eventually be used to hold all the defines that
are needed for compat time types that support non y2038
safe types. New architectures need not have to define these
new types as they will only use new y2038 safe syscalls.
This file can be deleted after y2038 when we stop supporting
non y2038 safe syscalls.

The patch also requires an operation similar to:

git grep "asm/compat\.h" | cut -d ":" -f 1 |  xargs -n 1 sed -i -e "s%asm/compat.h%linux/compat.h%g"

dccccd332d s390/sclp: avoid potential usage of uninitialized value
sclp_early_printk could be used before .bss section is zeroed
(i.e. from als.c during the decompressor phase), therefore values used
by sclp_early_printk should be located in the .data section.

Another reason for that is to avoid potential initrd corruption, if some
code in future would use sclp_early_printk before initrd is moved from
possibly overlapping with .bss section region to a safe location.

936b2161df s390/sclp_tty: enable line mode tty even if there is an ascii console
commit 8f50af49f5 ("s390/console: Make preferred console handling
more consistent") created a separate console state for the ascii
console. This has the side effect that we register no tty for the line
mode interface as soon as there an ascii interface as default console.
Under KVM this results in no getty program on the line mode tty if the
guest has both types of interfaces.

As we can have multiple ttys at the same time we do not want to disable
the tty on sclp_line0 under KVM. So instead of checking for the console
mode, we now check for the presence of the sclp line mode interface. As
z/VM multiplexes the line mode interface on the 32xx screen we continue
to disable the line mode tty for the z/VM case.

aa0f2dd4de s390/char : Rename EBCDIC keymap variables
The Linux Virtual Terminal (VT) layer provides a default keymap
which is compiled when VT layer is enabled. But at the same time
we are also compiling the EBCDIC keymap and this causes the linker
to complain.

So let's rename the EBCDIC keymap variables to prevent linker
conflict.
