be5d731954 drm/omap: copy enum omap_dss_clk_source
At the moment 'enum omap_dss_clk_source' is in omapdss.h, shared by
omapdrm and omapfb. We're about to improve the omapdrm clock code, so we
need to make a separate copy of the enum for each driver.

50c0164a6e drm/omap: video-pll: add missing data for clkout2 & 3
Video pll hw data is missing bitfield definitions for clkout2 and
clkout3. We don't use those clkouts at the moment, so this has not
caused any issues.

Add the bitfields.

Bunch of small fixupes all over. Plus a dma-buf patch that Sumit asked me
to cherry-pick since that's the only one he had in his tree.

There's a sparse issue outstanding in the color mgr stuff, but Lionel is
still working on something that actually appeases sparse.

18b862dcd5 dma-buf, drm, ion: Propagate error code from dma_buf_start_cpu_access()
Drivers, especially i915.ko, can fail during the initial migration of a
dma-buf for CPU access. However, the error code from the driver was not
being propagated back to ioctl and so userspace was blissfully ignorant
of the failure. Rendering corruption ensues.

Whilst fixing the ioctl to return the error code from
dma_buf_start_cpu_access(), also do the same for
dma_buf_end_cpu_access().  For most drivers, dma_buf_end_cpu_access()
cannot fail. i915.ko however, as most drivers would, wants to avoid being
uninterruptible (as would be required to guarrantee no failure when
flushing the buffer to the device). As userspace already has to handle
errors from the SYNC_IOCTL, take advantage of this to be able to restart
the syscall across signals.

This fixes a coherency issue for i915.ko as well as reducing the
uninterruptible hold upon its BKL, the struct_mutex.

f6e45661f9 dma, mm/pat: Rename dma_*_writecombine() to dma_*_wc()
Rename dma_*_writecombine() to dma_*_wc(), so that the naming
is coherent across the various write-combining APIs. Keep the
old names for compatibility for a while, these can be removed
at a later time. A guard is left to enable backporting of the
rename, and later remove of the old mapping defines seemlessly.

Build tested successfully with allmodconfig.

The following Coccinelle SmPL patch was used for this simple
transformation:

@ rename_dma_alloc_writecombine @
expression dev, size, dma_addr, gfp;
@@

-dma_alloc_writecombine(dev, size, dma_addr, gfp)
+dma_alloc_wc(dev, size, dma_addr, gfp)

@ rename_dma_free_writecombine @
expression dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr;
@@

-dma_free_writecombine(dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr)
+dma_free_wc(dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr)

@ rename_dma_mmap_writecombine @
expression dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size;
@@

-dma_mmap_writecombine(dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size)
+dma_mmap_wc(dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size)

We also keep the old names as compatibility helpers, and
guard against their definition to make backporting easier.

this patch removes the crtc->mgr field.

To accomplish that, a new static array is added along the current

connected to a crtc.

Optimally we'd use the struct omap_crtc to store this information, but
at the time when omap_crtc_dss_connect() is called, we don't yet have
the omap_crtc instances. This might possibly be fixed later, but for now
the static array does the job.

35a339acca drm/omap, omapfb: move exported dispc function declarations to omapdrm/omapfb
omapdrm and omapfb still share the same include/video/omapdss.h. We need
to change that so that we can proceed with omapdrm work.

However, it's not trivial to make separate omapfb and omapdrm versions
of omapdss.h, as that file is also included in other places like arch
code, audio code and omap_vout code. So we'll do it piece by piece.

This patch makes private versions of all the dispc function declarations
that are in omapdss.h. For omapdrm we create a new file,
drivers/gpu/drm/omapdrm/dss/omapdss.h, which will contain headers meant
to be visible outside omapdss.

92bf0f9e2a drm/omap: fix suspend/resume handling
For legacy reasons omapdss handles system suspend/resume via PM notifier
callback, where the driver disables/resumes all the outputs.

This doesn't work well with omapdrm. What happens on suspend is that the
omapdss disables the displays while omapdrm is still happily continuing
its work, possibly waiting for an vsync irq, which will never come if
the display output is disabled, leading to timeouts and errors sent to
userspace.

This patch moves the suspend/resume handling to omapdrm, and the
suspend/resume is now done safely inside modeset lock.

6bdad6cf98 drm/omap: fix crtc->plane property delegation
Before universal planes we had to have plane specific properties for the
crtc too, as on the hardware level a crtc uses a plane. In other words,
e.g. 'zorder' property was added to both planes and crtcs, and
omap_crtc.c would delegate the property set/get to the primary plane.

However, the delegation was a bit too generic, delegating all property
set/get calls to planes. Thus it's possible to set, say, FB_ID, on a
crtc, which gets redirected to the primary plane.

This is not standard, and shouldn't be allowed. To keep backward
compatibility, we still need to redirect the properties we supported
earlier for crtcs, namely 'zorder' and 'rotation'.

This patch redirects only the allowed properties from crtcs to planes.

cdb0381d2f drm/omap: gem: Clean up GEM objects memory flags
The driver assumes that only objects backed by shmem need to be mapped
through DMM. While this is true with the current code, the assumption
won't hold with dma_buf import support.

Condition the mapping based on whether the buffer has been allocated
using the DMA mapping API instead and clean up the flags to avoid having
to check both flags and GEM object filp field to decide how to process
buffers. Flags are not the authoritative source of information regarding
where the buffer memory comes from, and are renamed to make that
clearer.

2bb2daf3fa HACK: drm/omap: always use blocking DMM fill
The current driver uses non-blocking DMM fill when releasing memory.
This gives us a small performance increase as we don't have to wait for
the fill operation to finish.

However, the driver does not have any error handling for non-blocking
fill. In case of an error, the fill operation may silently fail, leading
to leaking DMM engines, which may eventually lead to deadlock if we run
out of DMM engines.

This patch makes the DMM driver always use blocking fills, so that we
can catch the errors. A more complex option would be to allow
non-blocking fills, and implement proper error handling, but that is
left for the future.

This patch is a HACK, as the proper fix is to either decide to always
use sync fills and remove all the async related code, or fix the async
code.

4e4b53ceb5 drm/omap: HDMI: change enable/disable to avoid sync-losts
We occasionally see DISPC sync-lost errors when enabling and disabling
HDMI. Sometimes we get only a few, which get handled (ignored) by the
driver, but sometimes there's a flood of the errors which doesn't seem
to stop.

The HW team has root caused this to the order in which HDMI and DISPC
are enabled/disabled. Currently we enable HDMI first, and then DISPC,
and vice versa when disabling. HW team's suggestion is to do it the
other way around.

This patch changes the order, but this has two side effects as the pixel
clock is produced by HDMI, and the clock is not running when we
enable/disable DISPC:

* When enabling DISPC first, we don't get vertical sync events
* When disabling DISPC last, we don't get FRAMEDONE event

At the moment we use both of those to verify that DISPC has been
enabled/disabled properly. Thus this patch also needs to change the
omapdrm and omapdss which handle the DISPC side.

This patch removes range-based information used for optimizations in

We don't have any user nor implementation using range-based flush. It seems a
consensus that if we ever want something like that again (or even more robust
using 2D, 3D sub-range regions) we can use the upcoming dma-buf sync ioctl for
such.

The GEM object free handler frees memory allocated by the driver using
the pointer to the drm_gem_object instead of the pointer to the

as the drm_gem_object is the first field of omap_gem_object, but would
cause memory corruption if the structure layout changes. Fix it.

aef9dbb8f7 drm/atomic-helper: Add option to update planes only on active crtc
With drivers supporting runtime pm it's generally not a good idea to
touch the hardware when it's off. Add an option to the commit_planes
helper to support this case.

Note that the helpers already add all planes on a crtc when a modeset
happens, hence plane updates will not be lost if drivers set this to
true.

v2: Check for NULL state->crtc before chasing the pointer. Also check
both old and new crtc if there's a switch. Finally just outright
disallow switching crtcs for a plane if the plane is in active use, on
most hardware that doesn't make sense.

v3: Since commit_planes(active_only = true) is for enabling things
only after all the crtc are on we should only look at the new crtc to
decide whether to call the plane hooks - if the current CRTC isn't on
then skip. If the old crtc (when moving a plane) went down then the
plane should have been disabled as part of the pipe shutdown work
already. For which there's currently no helper really unfortunately.
Also move the check for wether a plane gets a new CRTC assigned while
still in active use out of this patch.

v4: Rebase over exynos changes.

d642d3acd8 drm/omap: fix align_pitch() for 24 bits per pixel
align_pitch() uses ALIGN() to ensure the pitch is aligned to SGX's

Use roundup() instead, which works for all alignments.

393a949f51 drm/omap: fix omap_gem_put_paddr() error handling
If tiler_unpin() call in omap_gem_put_paddr() fails,
omap_gem_put_paddr() will immediately stop processing and return an
error.

This patch remoes that error checking, and also removes
omap_gem_put_paddr()'s return value, because:

 * The caller of omap_gem_put_paddr() can do nothing if an error
happens, so it's pointless to return an error value

 * If tiler_unpin() fails, the GEM object will possibly be left in an
undefined state, where the DMM mapping may have been removed, but the
GEM object still thinks everything is as it should be, leading to
   crashes later.

 * There's no point in returning an error from a "free" call, as the
caller can do nothing about it. So it's better to clean up as much as
   possible.

omap_framebuffer_unpin() check the return value of omap_gem_put_paddr()
and return immediately if omap_gem_put_paddr() fails.

This patch removes the check for the return value, and also removes the
return value of omap_framebuffer_unpin(), because:

 * Nothing checks the return value of omap_framebuffer_unpin(), and even
something did check it, there's nothing the caller can do to handle
   the error.

 * If a omap_gem_put_paddr() fails, the framebuffer's other planes will
be left unreleased. So it's better to call omap_gem_put_paddr() for
all the planes, even if one would fail.

96cbd14231 drm/omap: increase DMM transaction timeout
The DMM driver uses a timeout of 1 ms to wait for DMM transaction to
finish. While DMM should always finish the operation within that time,
the timeout is rather strict. Small misbehavior of the system (e.g. an
irq taking too long) could trigger the timeout.

As the DMM is a critical piece of code for display memory management,
let's increase the timeout to 100 ms so that we are less likely to fail
a memory allocation in case of system misbehaviors. 100 ms is just a
guess of a reasonably large timeout. The HW should accomplish the task
in less than 1 ms.

On a platform with no TILER (e.g. omap3, am43xx), when the user wants to

5f741b39dd drm: omapdrm: new vblank and event handling
Rework the crtc event/flip_wait system as follows:

- If we enable a crtc (full modeset), we set omap_crtc->pending and
  register vblank irq.

- If we need to set GO bit (page flip), we do the same but also set the
  GO bit.

- On vblank we unregister the irq, clear the 'pending' flag, send vblank
event to userspace if crtc->state->event != NULL, and wake up
  'pending_wait' wq.

- In omap_atomic_complete() we wait for the 'pending' flag to get reset
for all enabled crtcs using 'pending_wait' wq.

The above ensures that we send the events to userspace in vblank, and
that after the wait in omap_atomic_complete() everything for the
affected crtcs has been completed.

1cfe19aa61 drm: omapdrm: Support unlinking page flip events prematurely
DRM page flip vblank events requested by page flips or atomic commits
are created by the DRM core and then passed to driver through CRTC
states (for atomic commit) or directly to the page flip handler (for
legacy page flips). The events are then kept aside until the page flip
completes, at which point drivers queue them for delivery with a call to
drm_send_vblank_event().

When a DRM file handle is closed events pending for delivery are cleaned
up automatically by the DRM core. Events that have been passed to the
driver but haven't completed yet, however, are not handled by the DRM
core. Drivers are responsible for destroying them and must not attempt
to queue them for delivery. This is usually handled by drivers'
preclose() handlers that cancel and destroy page flip events that
reference the file handle being closed.

With asynchronous atomic updates the story becomes more complex. Several
asynchronous atomic updates can be pending, each of them carrying
per-CRTC events. As the atomic_commit() operation doesn't receive a file
handle context, drivers can't know which file handle a pending update
refers to, making it difficult to cancel or wait for completion of
updates related to the file handle being closed.

It should be noted that cancelling page flips or waiting for atomic
updates completion isn't required by the DRM core when closing a file
handle. The only requirement is that no event gets queued for delivery
after the preclose() operation returns. This can easily be achieved by
storing events for atomic commits in a list, unlinking events from the
file handle being closed by setting the file_priv field to NULL, and
skipping delivery of unlinked events.

This logic replaces the page flip cancellation completely.

c397cfd496 drm: omapdrm: Turn vblank on/off when enabling/disabling CRTC
The DRM core vblank handling mechanism requires drivers to forcefully
turn vblank reporting off when disabling the CRTC, and to restore the
vblank reporting status when enabling the CRTC.

Implement this using the drm_crtc_vblank_on/off helpers. When disabling
vblank we must first wait for page flips to complete, so implement page
flip completion wait as well.

Finally, drm_crtc_vblank_off() must be called at startup to synchronize
the state of the vblank core code with the hardware, which is initially
disabled. An interesting side effect is that the .disable_vblank()
operation will now be called for the first time with the CRTC disabled
and the DISPC runtime suspended. The dispc_runtime_get() call in
.disable_vblank() is supposed to take care of that, but the operation is
called with a spinlock held, which prevents it from sleeping.

To fix that move DISPC runtime PM handling out of the vblank operations
to the CRTC code, ensuring that the display controller will always be
powered when enabling or disabling vblank interrupts.

15d02e921c drm: omapdrm: Rework page flip handling
To implement proper vblank control the driver will need to wait for page
flip completion before disabling the vblank interrupt. This is made
complex by the page flip implementation which queues and submits page
flips to the hardware in two separate steps between which DRM locks are
released. We thus need to avoid waiting on a page flip that has been
queued but not submitted as submission and wait are covered by the same
lock.

Rework page flip handling as a first step by splitting the flip_pending
boolean variable into an enumerated state and moving between states
based on flip queue, submission and completion. The CANCELLED state will
be used in a second step.

The omapdrm can't use drm_irq_install() and drm_irq_uninstall() as it
delegates IRQ handling to the omapdss driver. However, the code still
declares IRQ-related operations used by the DRM IRQ helpers, and calls

Simplify the implementation by calling the functions directly or
inlining them. The irq_enabled checks can then also be simplified as
the call stacks guarantees that omap_drm_irq_install() and

a42133a780 drm: omapdrm: Apply settings synchronously
The omapdrm driver implements a mechanism to apply new settings (due to
plane update, plane disable, plane property set, CRTC mode set or CRTC
DPMS) asynchronously. While this improves performance, it adds a level
of complexity that makes transition to the atomic update API close to
impossible. Furthermore the atomic update API requires part of the apply
operations to be synchronous (such as pinning the framebuffers), so the
current implementation needs to be changed.

Simplify the CRTC and plane code by making updates synchronous to
prepare for the switch to the atomic update API. Asynchronous update

7439507f01 drm/omap: fix race conditon in DMM
The omapdrm DMM code sometimes crashes with:

WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 1235 at lib/list_debug.c:36 __list_add+0x8c/0xbc()
list_add double add: new=e9265368, prev=e90139c4, next=e9265368.

This is caused by the code calling release_engine() twice for the same
engine.

dmm_txn_commit(wait=true) call is supposed to wait until the DMM
transaction has been finished. And it does that, but it does not wait
for the irq handler to finish.

What happens is that the irq handler is triggered, and it either wakes
up the thread that called dmm_txn_commit(), or that thread never even
slept because the transaction was finished in the HW very quickly. That
thread then continues executing, even if the irq handler is not yet
finished, and a new transaction may be initiated. If that transaction is
async (i.e. wait=false), a 'async' flag is set to true. The original irq
handler, which has yet not finished, then sees the transaction as
'async', even if it was supposed to be 'sync'.

When that happens, the irq handler does an extra release_engine() call
because it thinks it need to release the engine, leading to the crash.

This patch fixes the issue by using completion to ensure that the irq
handler has finished before a dmm_txn_commit(wait=true) may continue.

a36af73f5e drm/omap: fix race with error_irq
omapdrm tries to avoid error floods by unregistering the error irq when
an error happens, and then registering the error irq again later.
However, the code is racy, as it sometimes tries to unregister the error
irq when it's already unregistered, leading to WARN().

Also, the code only registers the error irq again when something is done
on that particular output, i.e. if only TV is used to flip the buffers,
and LCD is showing a same buffer, an error on LCD will cause the LCD
error irq to be unregistered and never registered again.

To fix this, let's keep the error irqs always enabled and trust the
DRM_ERROR_RATELIMITED to limit the flood.
