ceede9fa89 [media] pwc: Fix locking
My last locking rework for pwc mistakenly assumed that videbuf2 does its
own locking, but it does not! This patch fixes the missing locking by
moving over the the video_device lock, and introducing a separate lock
for the videobuf2_queue.

24be689bfb [media] pwc: Use one shared usb command buffer
The pwc driver used to:
1. kmalloc a buffer
2. memcpy data to send over usb there
3. do the usb_control_msg call (which does not work with data on the stack)
4. free the buffer

For every usb command send. This patch changes the code to instead malloc
a buffer for this purpose once and use it everywhere.

938d5b9e7c [media] pwc: Avoid sending mode info to the camera when it is not needed
Since we always do a set_video_mode on stream start, there is no need

d167a85c5f [media] pwc: Fix pixfmt handling
Before this patch various code in the mode setting patch checked
pdev->pixfmt, but that was not set until the mode setting succeeded, so
it was looking at the old pixfmt! This patch fixes this by making the
pixfmt a parameter to set_video_mode, and setting it from set_video_mode
on success.

c20d78cde3 [media] pwc: Rework locking
While testing gtk-v4l's new ctrl event code, I hit the following deadlock
in the pwc driver:

Thread 1:
-Does a VIDIOC_G_CTRL
-video2_ioctl takes the modlock
-video2_ioctl calls v4l2_g_ctrl
-v4l2_g_ctrl takes the ctrl_handler lock
-v4l2_g_ctrl calls pwc_g_volatile_ctrl
-pwc_g_volatile_ctrl releases the modlock as the usb transfer can take a
significant amount of time and we don't want to block DQBUF / QBUF too long
Thread 2:
-Does a VIDIOC_FOO_CTRL
-video2_ioctl takes the modlock
-video2_ioctl calls v4l2_foo_ctrl
-v4l2_foo_ctrl blocks while trying to take the ctrl_handler lock
Thread 1:
-Blocks while trying to re-take the modlock, as its caller will eventually
 unlock that

Now we have thread 1 waiting for the modlock while holding the ctrl_handler
lock and thread 2 waiting for the ctrl_handler lock while holding the
modlock -> deadlock.

Conclusion:
1) We cannot unlock modlock from pwc_s_ctrl / pwc_g_volatile_ctrl,
but this can cause QBUF / DQBUF to block for up to a full second
2) After evaluating various option I came to the conclusion that pwc should
stop using the v4l2 core locking, and instead do its own locking

Thus this patch stops pwc using the v4l2 core locking, and replaces that with
it doing its own locking where necessary.

885fe18f55 [media] pwc: Replace private buffer management code with videobuf2
Looking at the pwc buffer management code has made it clear to me it needed
some serious fixing. Not only was there a ton of code duplication even
internally to pwc (read and mmap wait for frame code was duplicated), the
code also was outright buggy. With the worst offender being dqbuf, which
just round robin returned all the mmap buffers, without paying any attention
to them being queued by the app with qbuf or not. And qbuf itself was a noop.

So I set out to fix this and already had some cleanups in place when
I read Jonathan Corbet's lwn article on videobuf2, this inspired me to just
rip out the buffer management code and replace it with videobuf2, greatly
reducing the amount of code, and fixing all bugs in one go:

Many thanks to Jonathan for the timely article on this !

880c35c585 [media] pwc: Use the default version for VIDIOC_QUERYCAP
After discussing with Hans, change pwc to use the default version
control.

The only version ever used for pwc driver is 10.0.12, due to
commit 2b455db6d4.

Changing it to 3.x.y won't conflict with the old version.
There's no namespace conflicts in any predictable future.

Even on the remote far-away case where we might have a conflict,
it will be on just one specific stable Kernel release (Kernel 10.0.12),
if we ever have such stable release.

So, it is safe and consistent on using 3.x.y numering schema for
it.

1990d50b58 [media] Stop using linux/version.h on most video drivers
All the modified drivers didn't have any version increment since
Jan, 1 2011. Several of them didn't have any version increment
for a long time, even having new features and important bug fixes
happening.

As we're now filling the QUERYCAP version with the current Kernel
Release, we don't need to maintain a per-driver version control
anymore. So, let's just use the default.

In order to preserve the Kernel module version history, a
KERNEL_VERSION() macro were added to all modified drivers, and
the extraver number were incremented.

I opted to preserve the per-driver version control to a few
pwc, pvrusb2, s2255, s5p-fimc and sh_vou.

A few drivers are still using the legacy way to handle ioctl's.
So, we can't do such change on them, otherwise, they'll break.
Those are: uvc, et61x251 and sn9c102.

The rationale is that the per-driver version control seems to be
actively maintained on those.

Yet, I think that the better for them would be to just use the
default version numbering, instead of doing that by themselves.

While here, removed a few uneeded include linux/version.h

9a7b2d1f0e [media] pwc: better usb disconnect handling
Unplugging a pwc cam while an app has the /dev/video# node open leads
to an oops in pwc_video_close when the app closes the node, because
the disconnect handler has free-ed the pdev struct pwc_video_close
tries to use. Instead of adding some sort of bandaid for this.
fix it properly using the v4l2 core's new(ish) behavior of keeping the
v4l2_dev structure around until both unregister has been called, and
all file handles referring to it have been closed:

Embed the v4l2_dev structure in the pdev structure and define a v4l2 dev
release callback releasing the pdev structure (and thus also the embedded

5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

35ea11ff84 V4L/DVB (8430): videodev: move some functions from v4l2-dev.h to v4l2-common.h or v4l2-ioctl.h
The functions in a header should not belong to another module. The prio functions
belong to v4l2-common.c, so move them to v4l2-common.h.

The ioctl functions belong to v4l2-ioctl.c, so create a new v4l2-ioctl.h header
and move those functions to it.

85237f202d USB: fix DoS in pwc USB video driver
the pwc driver has a disconnect method that waits for user space to
close the device. This opens up an opportunity for a DoS attack,
blocking the USB subsystem and making khubd's task busy wait in
kernel space. This patch shifts freeing resources to close if an opened
device is disconnected.

05ad390724 V4L/DVB (5166): Remove obsolete alias defines of CONFIG_* settings
The out of tree v4l-dvb build system didn't always override the kernel's
configuration settings with v4l-dvb's settings correctly. To work around
this, makefiles would define some new macro based on the setting of a
config variable. e.g. the pwc Makefile would define CONFIG_PWC_DEBUG if
CONFIG_USB_PWC_DEBUG (which is defined via Kconfig) was set.
The v4l-dvb build system should now always override correctly, and this
is no longer necessary. This patch gets ride of these extra defines and
just uses the CONFIG_* settings directly.

5e87efa3b2 V4L/DVB (4068): Removed all references to kernel stuff from videodev.h and videodev2.h
The videodev.h and videodev2.h describe the public API for V4L and V4L2.
It shouldn't have there any kernel-specific stuff. Those were moved to
v4l2-dev.h.
This patch removes some uneeded headers and include v4l2-common.h on all
V4L driver. This header includes device implementation of V4L2 API provided
on v4l2-dev.h as well as V4L2 internal ioctls that provides connections
between master driver and its i2c devices.
