eccc2da8c0 atomics/treewide: Make atomic_fetch_add_unless() optional
Several architectures these have a near-identical implementation based
on atomic_read() and atomic_cmpxchg() which we can instead define in
<linux/atomic.h>, so let's do so, using something close to the existing
x86 implementation with try_cmpxchg().

Where an architecture provides its own atomic_fetch_add_unless(), it
must define a preprocessor symbol for it. The instrumented atomics are
updated accordingly.

Note that arch/arc's existing atomic_fetch_add_unless() had redundant
barriers, as these are already present in its atomic_cmpxchg()
implementation.

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

bef828204a atomics/treewide: Make atomic64_inc_not_zero() optional
We define a trivial fallback for atomic_inc_not_zero(), but don't do
the same for atomic64_inc_not_zero(), leading most architectures to
define the same boilerplate.

Let's add a fallback in <linux/atomic.h>, and remove the redundant
implementations. Note that atomic64_add_unless() is always defined in
<linux/atomic.h>, and promotes its arguments to the requisite types, so
we need not do this explicitly.

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

8b47038e6d atomics/treewide: Remove redundant atomic_inc_not_zero() definitions
When atomic_inc_not_zero(v) isn't defined, <linux/atomic.h> will define
it as falling back to atomic_add_unless((v), 1, 0), so there's no need
for arch code to do so.

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

bfc18e389c atomics/treewide: Rename __atomic_add_unless() => atomic_fetch_add_unless()
While __atomic_add_unless() was originally intended as a building-block
for atomic_add_unless(), it's now used in a number of places around the
kernel. It's the only common atomic operation named __atomic*(), rather
than atomic_*(), and for consistency it would be better named
atomic_fetch_add_unless().

This lack of consistency is slightly confusing, and gets in the way of
scripting atomics. Given that, let's clean things up and promote it to
an official part of the atomics API, in the form of
atomic_fetch_add_unless().

This patch converts definitions and invocations over to the new name,
including the instrumented version, using the following script:

  ----
git grep -w __atomic_add_unless | while read line; do
  sed -i '{s/\<__atomic_add_unless\>/atomic_fetch_add_unless/}' "${line%%:*}";
  done
git grep -w __arch_atomic_add_unless | while read line; do
  sed -i '{s/\<__arch_atomic_add_unless\>/arch_atomic_fetch_add_unless/}' "${line%%:*}";
  done
  ----

Note that we do not have atomic{64,_long}_fetch_add_unless(), which will
be introduced by later patches.

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

cce188bd58 bpf/error-inject/kprobes: Clear current_kprobe and enable preempt in kprobe
Clear current_kprobe and enable preemption in kprobe
even if pre_handler returns !0.

This simplifies function override using kprobes.

Jprobe used to require to keep the preemption disabled and
keep current_kprobe until it returned to original function
entry. For this reason kprobe_int3_handler() and similar
arch dependent kprobe handers checks pre_handler result
and exit without enabling preemption if the result is !0.

After removing the jprobe, Kprobes does not need to
keep preempt disabled even if user handler returns !0
anymore.

But since the function override handler in error-inject
and bpf is also returns !0 if it overrides a function,
to balancing the preempt count, it enables preemption
and reset current kprobe by itself.

That is a bad design that is very buggy. This fixes
such unbalanced preempt-count and current_kprobes setting
in kprobes, bpf and error-inject.

Note: for powerpc and x86, this removes all preempt_disable
from kprobe_ftrace_handler because ftrace callbacks are
called under preempt disabled.

2f24ef7413 ARC: Enable machine_desc->init_per_cpu for !CONFIG_SMP
machine_desc->init_per_cpu() hook is supposed to be per cpu
initialization and would seem to apply equally to UP and/or SMP.
Infact the comment in header file seems to suggest it works for
UP too, which was not the case and this patch.

This enables !CONFIG_SMP build for platforms such as hsdk.

74c11e300c ARC: Explicitly add -mmedium-calls to CFLAGS
GCC built for arc*-*-linux has "-mmedium-calls" implicitly enabled by default
thus we don't see any problems during Linux kernel compilation.
----------------------------->8------------------------
arc-linux-gcc -mcpu=arc700 -Q --help=target | grep calls
  -mlong-calls [disabled]
  -mmedium-calls [enabled]
----------------------------->8------------------------

But if we try to use so-called Elf32 toolchain with GCC configured for
arc*-*-elf* then we'd see the following failure:
----------------------------->8------------------------
init/do_mounts.o: In function 'init_rootfs':
do_mounts.c:(.init.text+0x108): relocation truncated to fit: R_ARC_S21W_PCREL
against symbol 'unregister_filesystem' defined in .text section in fs/filesystems.o

arc-elf32-ld: final link failed: Symbol needs debug section which does not exist
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1
----------------------------->8------------------------

That happens because neither "-mmedium-calls" nor "-mlong-calls" are enabled in
Elf32 GCC:
----------------------------->8------------------------
arc-elf32-gcc -mcpu=arc700 -Q --help=target | grep calls
  -mlong-calls [disabled]
  -mmedium-calls [disabled]
----------------------------->8------------------------

Now to make it possible to use Elf32 toolchain for building Linux kernel
we're explicitly add "-mmedium-calls" to CFLAGS.

And since we add "-mmedium-calls" to the global CFLAGS there's no point in
having per-file copies thus removing them.

3010a5ea66 mm: introduce ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL
Currently the PTE special supports is turned on in per architecture
header files. Most of the time, it is defined in
arch/*/include/asm/pgtable.h depending or not on some other per
architecture static definition.

This patch introduce a new configuration variable to manage this
directly in the Kconfig files. It would later replace
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL.

Here notes for some architecture where the definition of
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is not obvious:

arm
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL which is currently defined in
arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h which is included by
arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable.h when CONFIG_ARM_LPAE is set.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if ARM_LPAE.

powerpc
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined in 2 files:
 - arch/powerpc/include/asm/book3s/64/pgtable.h
 - arch/powerpc/include/asm/pte-common.h
The first one is included if (PPC_BOOK3S & PPC64) while the second is
included in all the other cases.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL all the time.

sparc:
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined if defined(__sparc__) &&
defined(__arch64__) which are defined through the compiler in
sparc/Makefile if !SPARC32 which I assume to be if SPARC64.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if SPARC64

There is no functional change introduced by this patch.

siginfo on the stack because C is allowed to skip holes when
initializing a structure.

The initialization of struct siginfo in tracehook_report_syscall_exit
was moved from the helper user_single_step_siginfo into
tracehook_report_syscall_exit itself, to make it clear that the local
variable siginfo gets fully initialized.

In a few cases the scope of struct siginfo has been reduced to make it
clear that siginfo siginfo is not used on other paths in the function
in which it is declared.

Instances of using memset to initialize siginfo have been replaced
with calls clear_siginfo for clarity.

2b5a9a37e9 time: Add an asm-generic/compat.h file
We have a couple of files that try to include asm/compat.h on
architectures where this is available. Those should generally use the
higher-level linux/compat.h file, but that in turn fails to include
asm/compat.h when CONFIG_COMPAT is disabled, unless we can provide
that header on all architectures.

This adds the asm/compat.h for all remaining architectures to
simplify the dependencies.

Architectures that are getting removed in linux-4.17 are not changed
here, to avoid needless conflicts with the removal patches. Those
architectures are broken by this patch, but we have already shown
that they have no users.

54a702f705 kbuild: mark $(targets) as .SECONDARY and remove .PRECIOUS markers
GNU Make automatically deletes intermediate files that are updated
in a chain of pattern rules.

Example 1) %.dtb.o <- %.dtb.S <- %.dtb <- %.dts
Example 2) %.o <- %.c <- %.c_shipped

A couple of makefiles mark such targets as .PRECIOUS to prevent Make
from deleting them, but the correct way is to use .SECONDARY.

  .SECONDARY
Prerequisites of this special target are treated as intermediate
files but are never automatically deleted.

  .PRECIOUS
When make is interrupted during execution, it may delete the target
file it is updating if the file was modified since make started.
If you mark the file as precious, make will never delete the file
    if interrupted.

Both can avoid deletion of intermediate files, but the difference is
the behavior when Make is interrupted; .SECONDARY deletes the target,
but .PRECIOUS does not.

The use of .PRECIOUS is relatively rare since we do not want to keep
partially constructed (possibly corrupted) targets.

Another difference is that .PRECIOUS works with pattern rules whereas
.SECONDARY does not.

  .PRECIOUS: $(obj)/%.lex.c

works, but

  .SECONDARY: $(obj)/%.lex.c

has no effect. However, for the reason above, I do not want to use
.PRECIOUS which could cause obscure build breakage.

The targets specified as .SECONDARY must be explicit. $(targets)
contains all targets that need to include .*.cmd files. So, the
intermediates you want to keep are mostly in there. Therefore, mark
$(targets) as .SECONDARY. It means primary targets are also marked
as .SECONDARY, but I do not see any drawback for this.

I replaced some .SECONDARY / .PRECIOUS markers with 'targets'. This
will make Kbuild search for non-existing .*.cmd files, but this is
not a noticeable performance issue.

cb9f753a37 mm: fix races between swapoff and flush dcache
Thanks to commit 4b3ef9daa4 ("mm/swap: split swap cache into 64MB
trunks"), after swapoff the address_space associated with the swap
device will be freed. So page_mapping() users which may touch the
address_space need some kind of mechanism to prevent the address_space
from being freed during accessing.

The dcache flushing functions (flush_dcache_page(), etc) in architecture
specific code may access the address_space of swap device for anonymous
pages in swap cache via page_mapping() function. But in some cases
there are no mechanisms to prevent the swap device from being swapoff,
for example,

  CPU1 CPU2
  __get_user_pages()			swapoff()
    flush_dcache_page()
      mapping = page_mapping()
        ...				  exit_swap_address_space()
        ... kvfree(spaces)
        mapping_mapped(mapping)

The address space may be accessed after being freed.

But from cachetlb.txt and Russell King, flush_dcache_page() only care
about file cache pages, for anonymous pages, flush_anon_page() should be
used. The implementation of flush_dcache_page() in all architectures
follows this too. They will check whether page_mapping() is NULL and
whether mapping_mapped() is true to determine whether to flush the
dcache immediately. And they will use interval tree (mapping->i_mmap)
to find all user space mappings. While mapping_mapped() and
mapping->i_mmap isn't used by anonymous pages in swap cache at all.

So, to fix the race between swapoff and flush dcache, __page_mapping()
is add to return the address_space for file cache pages and NULL
otherwise. All page_mapping() invoking in flush dcache functions are
replaced with page_mapping_file().

Starting from ARC HS v3.0 it's possible to tie GFRC to state of up-to 4
ARC cores with help of GFRC's CORE register where we set a mask for
cores which state we need to rely on.

We update cpu mask every time new cpu came online instead of using
hardcoded one or using mask generated from "possible_cpus" as we
want it set correctly even if we run kernel on HW which has fewer cores
than expected (or we launch kernel via debugger and kick fever cores
than HW has)

Note that GFRC halts when all cores have halted and thus relies on
programming of Inter-Core-dEbug register to halt all cores when one
halts.

173a3efd3e bug.h: work around GCC PR82365 in BUG()
Looking at functions with large stack frames across all architectures
led me discovering that BUG() suffers from the same problem as
fortify_panic(), which I've added a workaround for already.

In short, variables that go out of scope by calling a noreturn function
or __builtin_unreachable() keep using stack space in functions
afterwards.

A workaround that was identified is to insert an empty assembler
statement just before calling the function that doesn't return. I'm
adding a macro "barrier_before_unreachable()" to document this, and
insert calls to that in all instances of BUG() that currently suffer
from this problem.

The files that saw the largest change from this had these frame sizes
before, and much less with my patch:

fs/ext4/inode.c:82:1: warning: the frame size of 1672 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
fs/ext4/namei.c:434:1: warning: the frame size of 904 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
fs/ext4/super.c:2279:1: warning: the frame size of 1160 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
fs/ext4/xattr.c:146:1: warning: the frame size of 1168 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
fs/f2fs/inode.c:152:1: warning: the frame size of 1424 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
net/netfilter/ipvs/ip_vs_core.c:1195:1: warning: the frame size of 1068 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
net/netfilter/ipvs/ip_vs_core.c:395:1: warning: the frame size of 1084 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
net/netfilter/ipvs/ip_vs_ftp.c:298:1: warning: the frame size of 928 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
net/netfilter/ipvs/ip_vs_ftp.c:418:1: warning: the frame size of 908 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
net/netfilter/ipvs/ip_vs_lblcr.c:718:1: warning: the frame size of 960 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]
drivers/net/xen-netback/netback.c:1500:1: warning: the frame size of 1088 bytes is larger than 800 bytes [-Wframe-larger-than=]

In case of ARC and CRIS, it turns out that the BUG() implementation
actually does return (or at least the compiler thinks it does),
resulting in lots of warnings about uninitialized variable use and
leaving noreturn functions, such as:

  block/cfq-iosched.c: In function 'cfq_async_queue_prio':
block/cfq-iosched.c:3804:1: error: control reaches end of non-void function [-Werror=return-type]
  include/linux/dmaengine.h: In function 'dma_maxpq':
include/linux/dmaengine.h:1123:1: error: control reaches end of non-void function [-Werror=return-type]

This makes them call __builtin_trap() instead, which should normally
dump the stack and kill the current process, like some of the other
architectures already do.

I tried adding barrier_before_unreachable() to panic() and
fortify_panic() as well, but that had very little effect, so I'm not
submitting that patch.

that things like audio playback don't hear pops when the clk frequency
changes due to shared parent clks changing rates. Currently the clk
API doesn't guarantee the rate of a clk stays at the rate you request
after clk_set_rate() is called, so this new API will allow drivers
to express that requirement. Beyond this, the core got some debugfs
pretty printing patches and a couple minor non-critical fixes.

Looking outside of the core framework diff we have some new driver
additions and the removal of a legacy TI clk driver. Both of these hit
high in the dirstat. Also, the removal of the asm-generic/clkdev.h file
causes small one-liners in all the architecture Kbuild files. Overall, the
driver diff seems to be the normal stuff that comes all the time to
fix little problems here and there and to support new hardware.

47fcc0360c Driver Core updates for 4.16-rc1
Here is the set of "big" driver core patches for 4.16-rc1.

The majority of the work here is in the firmware subsystem, with reworks
to try to attempt to make the code easier to handle in the long run, but
no functional change. There's also some tree-wide sysfs attribute
fixups with lots of acks from the various subsystem maintainers, as well
as a handful of other normal fixes and changes.

And finally, some license cleanups for the driver core and sysfs code.

All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues.

d4173023e6 Merge branch 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull siginfo cleanups from Eric Biederman:
"Long ago when 2.4 was just a testing release copy_siginfo_to_user was
made to copy individual fields to userspace, possibly for efficiency
and to ensure initialized values were not copied to userspace.

Unfortunately the design was complex, it's assumptions unstated, and
humans are fallible and so while it worked much of the time that
design failed to ensure unitialized memory is not copied to userspace.

This set of changes is part of a new design to clean up siginfo and
simplify things, and hopefully make the siginfo handling robust enough
that a simple inspection of the code can be made to ensure we don't
copy any unitializied fields to userspace.

The design is to unify struct siginfo and struct compat_siginfo into a
single definition that is shared between all architectures so that
anyone adding to the set of information shared with struct siginfo can
see the whole picture. Hopefully ensuring all future si_code
  assignments are arch independent.

The design is to unify copy_siginfo_to_user32 and
copy_siginfo_from_user32 so that those function are complete and cope
with all of the different cases documented in signinfo_layout. I don't
think there was a single implementation of either of those functions
that was complete and correct before my changes unified them.

The design is to introduce a series of helpers including
force_siginfo_fault that take the values that are needed in struct
siginfo and build the siginfo structure for their callers. Ensuring
  struct siginfo is built correctly.

The remaining work for 4.17 (unless someone thinks it is post -rc1
material) is to push usage of those helpers down into the
architectures so that architecture specific code will not need to deal
with the fiddly work of intializing struct siginfo, and then when
struct siginfo is guaranteed to be fully initialized change copy
  siginfo_to_user into a simple wrapper around copy_to_user.

Further there is work in progress on the issues that have been
documented requires arch specific knowledge to sort out.

The changes below fix or at least document all of the issues that have
been found with siginfo generation. Then proceed to unify struct
siginfo the 32 bit helpers that copy siginfo to and from userspace,
and generally clean up anything that is not arch specific with regards
  to siginfo generation.

It is a lot but with the unification you can of siginfo you can
already see the code reduction in the kernel"

Merge tag 'init_task-20180117' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs

Pull init_task initializer cleanups from David Howells:
"It doesn't seem useful to have the init_task in a header file rather
than in a normal source file. We could consolidate init_task handling
instead and expand out various macros.

Here's a series of patches that consolidate init_task handling:

   (1) Make THREAD_SIZE available to vmlinux.lds for cris, hexagon and
       openrisc.

   (2) Alter the INIT_TASK_DATA linker script macro to set
init_thread_union and init_stack rather than defining these in C.

Insert init_task and init_thread_into into the init_stack area in
the linker script as appropriate to the configuration, with
different section markers so that they end up correctly ordered.

We can then get merge ia64's init_task.c into the main one.

We then have a bunch of single-use INIT_*() macros that seem only
to be macros because they used to be used per-arch. We can then
expand these in place of the user and get rid of a few lines and
       a lot of backslashes.

   (3) Expand INIT_TASK() in place.

   (4) Expand in place various small INIT_*() macros that are defined
conditionally. Expand them and surround them by #if[n]def/#endif
in the .c file as it takes fewer lines.

   (5) Expand INIT_SIGNALS() and INIT_SIGHAND() in place.

   (6) Expand INIT_STRUCT_PID in place.

These macros can then be discarded"

5f74972ce6 signal: Don't use structure initializers for struct siginfo
The siginfo structure has all manners of holes with the result that a
structure initializer is not guaranteed to initialize all of the bits.
As we have to copy the structure to userspace don't even try to use
a structure initializer. Instead use clear_siginfo followed by initializing
selected fields. This gives a guarantee that uninitialized kernel memory

8ff3afc159 ARC: Enable fatal signals on boot for dev platforms
It's very convenient to have fatal signals enabled on developemnt
platform as this allows to catch problems that happen early in
user-space (like crashing init or dynamic loader).

Otherwise we may either enable it later from alive taregt console
by "echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/print-fatal-signals" but:
 1. We might be unfortunate enough to not reach working console
 2. Forget to enable fatal signals and miss something interesting

Given we're talking about development platforms here it shouldn't
be a problem if a bit more data gets printed to debug console.

Moreover this makes behavior of all our dev platforms predictable
as today some platforms already have it enabled and some don't -
which is way too inconvenient.

0500871f21 Construct init thread stack in the linker script rather than by union
Construct the init thread stack in the linker script rather than doing it
by means of a union so that ia64's init_task.c can be got rid of.

The following symbols are then made available from INIT_TASK_DATA() linker
script macro:

	init_thread_union
	init_stack

INIT_TASK_DATA() also expands the region to THREAD_SIZE to accommodate the
size of the init stack. init_thread_union is given its own section so that
it can be placed into the stack space in the right order. I'm assuming
that the ia64 ordering is correct and that the task_struct is first and the
thread_info second.

c18fc90717 ARC: [plat-hsdk] Switch DisplayLink driver from fbdev to DRM
Currently there're 2 different implementations of the driver for
DisplayLink USB2.0-to-HDMI/DVI adapters: older FBDEV and modern true
DRM.

We initially decided to use FBDEV version just because with it
/dev/fbX is usable from user-space while in DRM version
with DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION user-space cannot draw anything on a real
screen, for more info read [1].

But today /dev/fbX is not that important as more and more software
projects switch to use of DRI (/dev/dri/cardX).

But what's even more important DRM driver allows building of complicated
graphics processing chains. The most important for us is rendering of
3D on a dedicated GPU while outputting video through a simpler
bitstreamer like DisplayLink. So let's use much more future-proof
driver from now on.

c895f6f703 bpf: correct broken uapi for BPF_PROG_TYPE_PERF_EVENT program type
Commit 0515e5999a ("bpf: introduce BPF_PROG_TYPE_PERF_EVENT
program type") introduced the bpf_perf_event_data structure which
exports the pt_regs structure. This is OK for multiple architectures
but fail for s390 and arm64 which do not export pt_regs. Programs
using them, for example, the bpf selftest fail to compile on these
architectures.

For s390, exporting the pt_regs is not an option because s390 wants
to allow changes to it. For arm64, there is a user_pt_regs structure
that covers parts of the pt_regs structure for use by user space.

To solve the broken uapi for s390 and arm64, introduce an abstract
type for pt_regs and add an asm/bpf_perf_event.h file that concretes
the type. An asm-generic header file covers the architectures that
export pt_regs today.

The arch-specific enablement for s390 and arm64 follows in separate
commits.

f315685161 ARCv2: boot log: updates for HS48: dual-issue, ECC, Loop Buffer
Print the hardware support for ECC, Loop Buffer as well as the runtime
enabled status

Note that unlike the existing boot printing, this one is not read from
pre-decoded hardware capabilty info cached in cpuinfo[] struct.
Instead we read the AUX regs on the spot and print it, without botherign
to save anywhere.

There is no point in saving static hardware capabilites in memory when
its use is very sporadic and non-performance critical, mainly for
/proc/cpuinfo. This gets worse in SMP, given it is per-cpu, and pretty
much exactly same across all cpus. So only info needed at runtime
(e.g. TLB geometry) needs to be cached in cpuinfo[]. So going fwd
we will start converting code to this paradigm.

7e7962dd1a kbuild: handle dtb-y and CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS natively in Makefile.lib
If CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS is enabled, "make ARCH=arm64 dtbs" compiles each
DTB twice; one from arch/arm64/boot/dts/*/Makefile and the other from
the dtb-$(CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS) line in arch/arm64/boot/dts/Makefile.
It could be a race problem when building DTBS in parallel.

Another minor issue is CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS covers only *.dts in vendor
sub-directories, so this broke when Broadcom added one more hierarchy
in arch/arm64/boot/dts/broadcom/<soc>/.

One idea to fix the issues in a clean way is to move DTB handling
to Kbuild core scripts. Makefile.dtbinst already recognizes dtb-y
natively, so it should not hurt to do so.

Add $(dtb-y) to extra-y, and $(dtb-) as well if CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS is
enabled. All clutter things in Makefiles go away.

As a bonus clean-up, I also removed dts-dirs. Just use subdir-y
directly to traverse sub-directories.

92d4412824 ARCv2: Accomodate HS48 MMUv5 by relaxing MMU ver checking
HS48 cpus will have a new MMUv5, although Linux is currently not
explicitly supporting the newer features (so remains at V4).
The existing software/hardware version check is very tight and causes
boot abort. Given that the MMUv5 hardware is backwards compatible,
relax the boot check to allow current kernel support level to work
with new hardware.

Also while at it, move the ancient MMU related code to under ARCompact
builds as baseline MMU for HS cpus is v4.

ead751507d License cleanup: add SPDX license identifiers to some files
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
 Philippe Ombredanne.

 How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
 the use cases:
  - file had no licensing information it it.
  - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
  - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
  - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
  - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
    lines of source
  - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
    lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
 identifiers to apply.

  - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
    COPYING file license applied.

For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

and resulted in the first patch in this series.

If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

    SPDX license identifier # files
    ---------------------------------------------------|-------
    GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930

and resulted in the second patch in this series.

  - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

    ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
    ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

  - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
    the concluded license(s).

  - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

  - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

  - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

  - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
    in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
 they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
 in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
 correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
 version early this week with:
  - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
    license ids and scores
  - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
  - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
    SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
 generate the patches.

e2be04c7f9 License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with a license
Many user space API headers have licensing information, which is either
incomplete, badly formatted or just a shorthand for referring to the
license under which the file is supposed to be. This makes it hard for
compliance tools to determine the correct license.

Update these files with an SPDX license identifier. The identifier was
chosen based on the license information in the file.

GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license
identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is
the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall
exception:

NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel
services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use
of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work".

This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL
code, without confusing license compliance tools.

Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed
under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX
identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier. The format
is:
        ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR SPDX-ID-OF-OTHER-LICENSE)

SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be
used instead of the full boiler plate text. The update does not remove
existing license information as this has to be done on a case by case
basis and the copyright holders might have to be consulted. This will
happen in a separate step.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne. See the previous patch in this series for the
methodology of how this patch was researched.

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

6aa7de0591 locking/atomics: COCCINELLE/treewide: Convert trivial ACCESS_ONCE() patterns to READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE()
Please do not apply this to mainline directly, instead please re-run the
coccinelle script shown below and apply its output.

For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in
preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the
former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of
ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't harmful, and changing them results in
churn.

However, for some features, the read/write distinction is critical to
correct operation. To distinguish these cases, separate read/write
accessors must be used. This patch migrates (most) remaining
ACCESS_ONCE() instances to {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(), using the following
coccinelle script:

010a8c9888 ARC: boot log: decontaminate ARCv2 ISA_CONFIG register
ARCv2 ISA_CONFIG and ARC700_BUILD build config registers are not
compatible. cpuinfo_arc had isa info placeholder which was mashup of bits
form both.

Untangle this by defining it off of ARCv2 ISA info and it is fine even
for ARC700 since former is a super set of latter (ARC700 buildonly has 2
bits for atomics and stack check).

At runtime, we treat ARCv2 ISA info as a generic placeholder but
populate it correctly depending on ARC700 or HS.

This paves way for adding more HS specific bits in isa info which was
colliding with the extra bits for arc700.

0ee931c4e3 mm: treewide: remove GFP_TEMPORARY allocation flag
GFP_TEMPORARY was introduced by commit e12ba74d8f ("Group short-lived
and reclaimable kernel allocations") along with __GFP_RECLAIMABLE. It's
primary motivation was to allow users to tell that an allocation is
short lived and so the allocator can try to place such allocations close
together and prevent long term fragmentation. As much as this sounds
like a reasonable semantic it becomes much less clear when to use the
highlevel GFP_TEMPORARY allocation flag. How long is temporary? Can the
context holding that memory sleep? Can it take locks? It seems there is
no good answer for those questions.

The current implementation of GFP_TEMPORARY is basically GFP_KERNEL |
__GFP_RECLAIMABLE which in itself is tricky because basically none of
the existing caller provide a way to reclaim the allocated memory. So
this is rather misleading and hard to evaluate for any benefits.

I have checked some random users and none of them has added the flag
with a specific justification. I suspect most of them just copied from
other existing users and others just thought it might be a good idea to
use without any measuring. This suggests that GFP_TEMPORARY just
motivates for cargo cult usage without any reasoning.

I believe that our gfp flags are quite complex already and especially
those with highlevel semantic should be clearly defined to prevent from
confusion and abuse. Therefore I propose dropping GFP_TEMPORARY and
replace all existing users to simply use GFP_KERNEL. Please note that
SLAB users with shrinkers will still get __GFP_RECLAIMABLE heuristic and
so they will be placed properly for memory fragmentation prevention.

I can see reasons we might want some gfp flag to reflect shorterm
allocations but I propose starting from a clear semantic definition and
only then add users with proper justification.

This was been brought up before LSF this year by Matthew [1] and it
turned out that GFP_TEMPORARY really doesn't have a clear semantic. It
seems to be a heuristic without any measured advantage for most (if not
all) its current users. The follow up discussion has revealed that
opinions on what might be temporary allocation differ a lot between
developers. So rather than trying to tweak existing users into a
semantic which they haven't expected I propose to simply remove the flag
and start from scratch if we really need a semantic for short term
allocations.

1ee55a8f7f ARC: Re-enable MMU upon Machine Check exception
I recently came upon a scenario where I would get a double fault
machine check exception tiriggered by a kernel module.
However the ensuing crash stacktrace (ksym lookup) was not working
correctly.

Turns out that machine check auto-disables MMU while modules are allocated
in kernel vaddr spapce.

This patch re-enables the MMU before start printing the stacktrace
making stacktracing of modules work upon a fatal exception.

a518d63777 ARC: [plat-hsdk] initial port for HSDK board
This initial port adds support of ARC HS Development Kit board with some
basic features such serial port, USB, SD/MMC and Ethernet.

Essentially we run Linux kernel on all 4 cores (i.e. utilize SMP) and
heavily use IO Coherency for speeding-up DMA-aware peripherals.

Note as opposed to other ARC boards we link Linux kernel to
0x9000_0000 intentionally because cores 1 and 3 configured with DCCM
situated at our more usual link base 0x8000_0000. We still can use
memory region starting at 0x8000_0000 as we reallocate DCCM in our
platform code.

Note that PAE remapping for DMA clients does not work due to an RTL bug,
so CREG_PAE register must be programmed to all zeroes, otherwise it will
cause problems with DMA to/from peripherals even if PAE40 is not used.

9ed68785f7 ARC: mm: Decouple RAM base address from kernel link address
[Needed for HSDK]

Currently the first page of system (hence RAM base) is assumed to be
@ CONFIG_LINUX_LINK_BASE, where kernel itself is linked.

However is case of HSDK platform, for reasons explained in that patch,
this is not true. kernel needs to be linked @ 0x9000_0000 while DDR
is still wired at 0x8000_0000. To properly account for this 256M of RAM,
we need to introduce a new option and base page frame accountiing off of

9f82e90a66 ARC: Hardcode ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN to max line length we may have
Current implementation relies on L1 line length which might easily
be smaller than L2 line (which is usually the case BTW).

Imagine this typical case: L2 line is 128 bytes while L1 line is
64-bytes. Now we want to allocate small buffer and later use it for DMA
(consider IOC is not available).

kmalloc() allocates small KMALLOC_MIN_SIZE-sized, KMALLOC_MIN_SIZE-aligned
That way if buffer happens to be aligned to L1 line and not L2 line we'll be
flushing and invalidating extra portions of data from L2 which will cause
cache coherency issues.

And since KMALLOC_MIN_SIZE is bound to ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN the fix could
be simple - set ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN to the largest cache line we may ever
get. As of today neither L1 of ARC700 and ARC HS38 nor SLC might not be
longer than 128 bytes.

boards (customer as well as internal), would assert interrutps early
before any handlers were installed. For SMP systems, the masking was
done at each cpu's core-intc. Later, when the IRQ was actually
requested, it was unmasked, but only on the requesting cpu.

For "common" interrupts, which were wired up from the 2nd level IDU
intc, this was as issue as they needed to be enabled on ALL the cpus
(given that IDU IRQs are by default served Round Robin across cpus)

So fix that by NOT masking "common" interrupts at core-intc, but instead
at the 2nd level IDU intc (latter already being done in idu_of_init())

This commit add new configuration that enables us to distinguish

On platforms that implement a different set of auxiliary registers
disabling this configuration insures that we initialize registers on

983394959f ARC: [plat-eznps] Handle user memory error same in simulation and silicon
On ARC700 (and nSIM), user mode memory error triggers an L2 interrupt

NPS hardware however raises a Machine Check exception for same error

This patch aligns kernel handling for nSIM case, to same as hardware by
overriding the default user space bus error handler.

30d6e0a419 futex: Remove duplicated code and fix undefined behaviour
There is code duplicated over all architecture's headers for
futex_atomic_op_inuser. Namely op decoding, access_ok check for uaddr,
and comparison of the result.

Remove this duplication and leave up to the arches only the needed
assembly which is now in arch_futex_atomic_op_inuser.

This effectively distributes the Will Deacon's arm64 fix for undefined
behaviour reported by UBSAN to all architectures. The fix was done in
commit 5f16a046f8 (arm64: futex: Fix undefined behaviour with
FUTEX_OP_OPARG_SHIFT usage). Look there for an example dump.

And as suggested by Thomas, check for negative oparg too, because it was
also reported to cause undefined behaviour report.

Note that s390 removed access_ok check in d12a29703 ("s390/uaccess:
remove pointless access_ok() checks") as access_ok there returns true.
We introduce it back to the helper for the sake of simplicity (it gets
optimized away anyway).

a8ec3ee861 arc: Mask individual IRQ lines during core INTC init
ARC cores on reset have all interrupt lines of built-in INTC enabled.
Which means once we globally enable interrupts (very early on boot)
faulty hardware blocks may trigger an interrupt that Linux kernel
cannot handle yet as corresponding handler is not yet installed.

In that case system falls in "interrupt storm" and basically never
does anything useful except entering and exiting generic IRQ handling
code.

One real example of that kind of problematic hardware is DW GMAC which
also has interrupts enabled on reset and if Ethernet PHY informs GMAC
about link state, GMAC immediately reports that upstream to ARC core
and here we are.

Now with that change we mask all individual IRQ lines making entire
system more fool-proof.

9d664c0aec locking/atomic: Fix atomic_set_release() for 'funny' architectures
Those architectures that have a special atomic_set implementation also
need a special atomic_set_release(), because for the very same reason
WRITE_ONCE() is broken for them, smp_store_release() is too.

The vast majority is architectures that have spinlock hash based atomic
implementation except hexagon which seems to have a hardware 'feature'.

The spinlock based atomics should be SC, that is, none of them appear to
place extra barriers in atomic_cmpxchg() or any of the other SC atomic
primitives and therefore seem to rely on their spinlock implementation
being SC (I did not fully validate all that).

Therefore, the normal atomic_set() is SC and can be used at
atomic_set_release().

b5ddb6d547 ARCv2: PAE40: set MSB even if !CONFIG_ARC_HAS_PAE40 but PAE exists in SoC
PAE40 confiuration in hardware extends some of the address registers
for TLB/cache ops to 2 words.

So far kernel was NOT setting the higher word if feature was not enabled
in software which is wrong. Those need to be set to 0 in such case.

Normally this would be done in the cache flush / tlb ops, however since
these registers only exist conditionally, this would have to be
conditional to a flag being set on boot which is expensive/ugly -
specially for the more common case of PAE exists but not in use.
Optimize that by zero'ing them once at boot - nobody will write to
them afterwards
