Robert Jarzmik reports that his PXA25x system fails to boot with 4.12,
failing at __flush_whole_cache in arch/arm/mm/proc-xscale.S:215:
0xc0019e20 <+0>: ldr r1, [pc, #788]
0xc0019e24 <+4>: ldr r0, [r1] <== here
with r1 containing 0xc06f82cd, which is the address of "clean_addr".
Examination of the System.map shows:
c06f22c8 D user_pmd_table
c06f22cc d __warned.19178
c06f22cd d clean_addr
indicating that a .data.unlikely section has appeared just before the
.data section from proc-xscale.S. According to objdump -h, it appears
that our assembly files default their .data alignment to 2**0, which
is bad news if the preceding .data section size is not power-of-2
aligned at link time.
Add the appropriate .align directives to all assembly files in arch/arm
that are missing them where we require an appropriate alignment.

We are planning to share more code between different NAND based
devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that
we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into
include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header
containing all common structure and function prototypes.

We get a link error trying to access the w100fb_gpio_read/write
functions from the platform when the driver is a loadable module
or not built-in, so the platform already uses 'select' to hard-enable
the driver.
However, that fails if the framebuffer subsystem is disabled
altogether.
I've considered various ways to fix this properly, but they
all seem like too much work or too risky, so this simply
adds another 'select' to force the subsystem on as well.

In commit 3169663ac5 "ARM: sa11x0/pxa: convert OS timer registers
to IOMEM", the definition of the OSCR macro was changed to be an
__iomem pointer, but the same register is also used by the XIP
code. This patch does the corresponding change here as well.
On PXA, the IRQ register definitions were removed even earlier, in
commit 5d284e353e ("ARM: pxa: avoid accessing interrupt registers
directly"). This patch unfortunately brings some of that back. An
earlier version of my patch moved the code into an external function,
which could not work for CONFIG_XIP_KERNEL+CONFIG_MTD_XIP, so this
restores something close to the original code.

Core:
- Export add/remove for lookup tables so that modules can export GPIO
descriptor tables.
- Handle GPIO sleep states: it is now possible to flag that a GPIO line
may loose its state during suspend/resume of the system to save
power. This is used in the Wolfson Micro Arizona driver.
- ACPI-based GPIO was tightened up a lot around the edges.
- Use bitmap_fill() to speed up a loop.
New drivers:
- Exar XRA1403 SPI-based GPIO.
- MVEBU driver now supports Armada 7K and 8K.
- LP87565 PMIC GPIO.
- Renesas R-CAR R8A7743 (RZ/G1M).
- The new IOT2040 8250 serial/GPIO also comes in through this
changeset.
Substantial driver changes:
- Seriously fix the Exar 8250 GPIO portions to work.
- The MCP23S08 was moved out to a pin control driver.
- Convert MEVEBU to use regmap for register access.
- Drop Vulcan support from the Broadcom driver.
- Serious cleanup and improvement of the mockup driver, giving us a
better test coverage.
Misc:
- Lots of janitorial clean up.
- A bunch of documentation fixes.

This patch adds a support for ADS7846 touchscreen driver.
The basic functionality was tested, x_plate_ohms and y_plate_ohms were
physically measured. The value pressure_max was empirically set to match
the measured range, which is affected by x_plate_ohms and ADS samples.
The value of keep_vref_on should be set. A tested model (T-Mobile MDA
Compact PM10A) doesn't seem to use Vref pin as the input from an external
source. On this model the unset keep_vref_on cause high jitter of measured
values.
SPI framing pin (gpio_cs) must be used in GPIO mode due to an incompatible
autoframing of PXA27x controller and ADS7846 device.

In the SoC branch we normally collect classic arch/arm/mach-* contents, i.e.
C code changes for SoC platforms. This release cycle the diffstat is quite
nice, in that we're removing 3x the amount of code that's being added.
The main reason for this is that there's a removal of camera drivers for
Freescale i.MX chips (driver was removed so the device registration isn't
needed any more). There's also removal of display initialization code for OMAP
that is no longer needed.
The rest are mostly minor tweaks and cleanups; constification on Samsung
platforms, cleanup of ux500 platform data, purge of other unused platform
data/device seutp on i.MX and other good stuff.
New SoC support this cycle is for two Allwinner platforms, H2+ and V3s.

STM32F4 family.

removing support for board files in the previous release
- Davinci has some new work to improve USB support
- For i.MX, the performance monitor now supports profiling the
memory controller using 'perf'

Instead of having the smc91x driver relying on machine_is_*() calls,
provide this data through platform data, ie. idp, mainstone and
stargate.
This way, the driver doesn't need anymore machine_is_*() calls, which
wouldn't work anymore with a device-tree build.

The method to acquire the input interrupt was working in a platform data
based board, but was failing in a device-tree one when the gpio
controller was probed after pxa_cplds.
Use platform_get_irq() to benefit from the probe deferral
mechanism. Moreover, as seen in dm9000.c development, platform_get_irq()
doesn't honor the irq type IO resource (ie. edge rising for example),
and it must be passed again at irq request in a not device-tree build,
hence the irq_get_trigger_type() call.

As both pxa and sa1100 provide a clock to the timer, the rate can be
inferred from the clock rather than hard encoded in a functional call.
This patch changes the pxa timer to have a mandatory clock which is used

These are updates for platform specific code on 32-bit ARM machines,
essentially anything that can not (yet) be expressed using DT files.
Noteworthy changes include:
- We get support for running in big-endian mode on two platforms:
sunxi (Allwinner) and s3c24xx (old Samsung).
- The recently added Uniphier platform now uses standard PSCI
methods for SMP booting and we remove support for old bootloader
versions that did not support it yet.
- In sunxi, we gain support for the "Nextthing GR8" SoC, which
is a close relative of the Allwinner A13 and R8 chips.
- PXA completes its move over to the generic dmaengine framework
and removes its old private API
- mach-bcm gains support for BCM47189/BCM53573, their first ARM
SoC with integrated 802.11ac wireless networking.

- Do away with the last users of the obsolete Kconfig options
ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB (the latter

me). We can now select GPIOLIB and be done with it, for all
archs. After some struggle it even work on UM. Not that it has
GPIO, but if it wants to, it can select the library.
- Continued efforts to make drivers properly either tristate or
bool.
- Introduce a warning for drivers assigning default triggers to
their irqchip lines when probed from device tree, so we find and
fix these ambigous drivers. It is agreed that in the OF config
path, the device tree defines trigger characteristics.
- The same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO
irqchips.
- We introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable"
as they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and
generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is
put to good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview
pin control driver.
- A new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing.
The plan is to add unit tests under tools/* for exercising this
device and verify that the kernel code paths are working as they
should.
- Make memory-mapped I/O-drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM. This was
implicit all the time, but when people started building UM
with allyesconfig or allmodconfig it exploded in their face.
- Move some stray bits of device tree and ACPI HW description
callbacks down into their respective implementation silo. These
were causing issues when compiling on !HAS_IOMEM as well, so
now eventually UM compiles the GPIOLIB library if it wants to.
New drivers:
- New driver for the Aspeed GPIO front-end companion to the
pin controller merged through the pin control tree.
- New driver for the LP873x PMIC GPIO portions.
- New driver for Technologic Systems' I2C FPGA GPIO such as
TS4900, TS-7970, TS-7990 and TS-4100.
- New driver for the Broadcom BCM63xx series including BCM6338
and BCM6345.
- New driver for the Intel WhiskeyCove PMIC GPIO.
- New driver for the Allwinner AXP209 PMIC GPIO portions.
- New driver for Diamond Systems 48 line GPIO-MM, another of
these port-mapped I/O expansion cards.
- Support the STMicroelectronics STMPE1600 variant in the STMPE
driver.
Driver improvements:
- The STMPE driver now supports rising/falling edge detection
properly for IRQs.
- The PCA954x will now fetch and enable its VCC regulator properly.
- Major rework of the PCA953x driver with the goal of eventually
switching it over to use regmap and thus modernize it even more.
- Switch the IOP driver to use the generic MMIO GPIO library.
- Move the ages old HTC EGPIO (extended GPIO) GPIO expander driver
over to this subsystem from MFD, achieveing some separation of
concerns.

Add the required PCMCIA clock for the SA1111 "1800" device. This clock
is used to compute timing information for the PCMCIA interface in the
SoC device, rather than the SA1111. Hence, the provision of this clock
is a convenience for the driver and does not reflect the hardware, so
this must not be copied into DT.

Since its initial commit, the driver is buggy for multiple interrupts
handling. The translation from the former lubbock.c file was not
complete, and might stall all interrupt handling when multiple
interrupts occur.
This is especially true when inside the interrupt handler and if a new
interrupt comes and is not handled, leaving the output line still held,
and not creating a transition as the GPIO block behind would expect to
trigger another cplds_irq_handler() call.
For the record, the hardware is working as follows.
The interrupt mechanism relies on :
- one status register
- one mask register
Let's suppose the input irq lines are called :
- i_sa1111
- i_lan91x
- i_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the status register for each irq line is called :
- status_sa1111
- status_lan91x
- status_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the interrupt mask for each irq line is called :
- irqen_sa1111
- irqen_lan91x
- irqen_mmc_cd
Let's suppose the output irq line, connected to GPIO0 is called :
- o_gpio0
The behavior is as follows :
- o_gpio0 = not((status_sa1111 & irqen_sa1111) |
(status_lan91x & irqen_lan91x) |
(status_mmc_cd & irqen_mmc_cd))
=> this is a N-to-1 NOR gate and multiple AND gates
- irqen_* is exactly as programmed by a write to the FPGA
- status_* behavior is governed by a bi-stable D flip-flop
=> on next FPGA clock :
- if i_xxx is high, status_xxx becomes 1
- if i_xxx is low, status_xxx remains as it is
- if software sets status_xxx to 0, the D flip-flop is reset
=> status_xxx becomes 0
=> on next FPGA clock cycle, if i_xxx is high, status_xxx becomes
1 again

- a last time by GPIO_bit(gpio) which is BIT(gpio)
Therefore the calculation lead to a chained or operator of :
- (1 << gpio) << (1 << gpio) = (2^gpio)^gpio = 2 ^ (gpio * gpio)
It is be sheer luck the former statement works, only because each gpio
used is strictly smaller than 6, and therefore 2^(gpio^2) never
overflows a 32 bits value, and because it is used as a boolean value to
check a gpio activation.
As the xxx_charger_wakeup() functions are used as a true/false detection
mechanism, take that opportunity to change their prototypes from integer
return value to boolean one.

Commit b70661c708 ("net: smc91x: use run-time configuration on all ARM
machines") broke some ARM platforms through several mistakes. Firstly,
the access size must correspond to the following rule:
(a) at least one of 16-bit or 8-bit access size must be supported
(b) 32-bit accesses are optional, and may be enabled in addition to
the above.
Secondly, it provides no emulation of 16-bit accesses, instead blindly
making 16-bit accesses even when the platform specifies that only 8-bit
is supported.
Reorganise smc91x.h so we can make use of the existing 16-bit access
emulation already provided - if 16-bit accesses are supported, use
16-bit accesses directly, otherwise if 8-bit accesses are supported,
use the provided 16-bit access emulation. If neither, BUG(). This
exactly reflects the driver behaviour prior to the commit being fixed.
Since the conversion incorrectly cut down the available access sizes on
several platforms, we also need to go through every platform and fix up
the overly-restrictive access size: Arnd assumed that if a platform can
perform 32-bit, 16-bit and 8-bit accesses, then only a 32-bit access
size needed to be specified - not so, all available access sizes must
be specified.
This likely fixes some performance regressions in doing this: if a
platform does not support 8-bit accesses, 8-bit accesses have been
emulated by performing a 16-bit read-modify-write access.
Tested on the Intel Assabet/Neponset platform, which supports only 8-bit
accesses, which was broken by the original commit.

A couple of bug fixes have come in for v4.8 so far. Since the first few were
originally meant to go into -rc1 (but didn't get sent in time for travel
reasons), the branch is unfortunately based on top of a commit in the
middle of the merge window rather than -rc1.
Content-wise we have
- A fix for the last remaining broken build in kernelci,
getting mach-shmobile to build again with SMP disabled
- A fix for a realview regression that broke real hardware but
not the qemu model that everyone uses in practice (needed
for v4.7 as well)
- A merge conflict fix for Tegra that also broke v4.7
- Two Kconfig fixes for arm64 build regressions
- A couple of arm32 build warning fixes (all harmless)
- Fixing the RTC on Exynos7 Espresso (which apparently
never worked right)

Pincontrol is not yet ready for all PXA platforms.
For example, a legacy platform, if PINCTRL was activated, will fail its
calls to gpio_request() or gpio_direction_output(), as the pinctrl
driver might not be available, such as for pxa25x and pxa3xx.
As a step forward, activate pincontrol for all device-tree available
machines, ie. pxa27x device-tree based and pxa3xx device-tree based.
If it appears later that pincontrol is also required for legacy
platforms and if the mfp->pinctrl conversion can be achieved, then
PINCTRL will be activated for the whole PXA architecture.

Since device_add_property_set() now always takes a copy of
the property_set, and also since the fwnode type is always
hard coded to be FWNODE_PDATA, there is no need for the
drivers to deliver the entire struct property_set. The
function can just create the instance of it on its own and
bind the properties from the drivers to it on the spot.
This renames device_add_property_set() to
device_add_properties(). The function now takes struct
property_entry as its parameter instead of struct
property_set.

gcc-6.0 notices that the use of the property_entry in this file that
was recently introduced cannot work right, as we initialize the wrong
field:
raumfeld.c:387:3: error: the address of 'raumfeld_rotary_encoder_steps' will always evaluate as 'true' [-Werror=address]
DEV_PROP_U32, 1, &raumfeld_rotary_encoder_steps, },
^~~~~~~~~~~~
raumfeld.c:389:3: error: the address of 'raumfeld_rotary_encoder_axis' will always evaluate as 'true' [-Werror=address]
DEV_PROP_U32, 1, &raumfeld_rotary_encoder_axis, },
^~~~~~~~~~~~
raumfeld.c:391:3: error: the address of 'raumfeld_rotary_encoder_relative_axis' will always evaluate as 'true' [-Werror=address]
DEV_PROP_U32, 1, &raumfeld_rotary_encoder_relative_axis, },
^~~~~~~~~~~~
The problem appears to stem from relying on an old definition of
'struct property', but it has changed several times since the code
could have last been correct.
This changes the code to use the PROPERTY_ENTRY_INTEGER() macro instead,
which works fine for the current definition and is a safer way of doing
the initialization.

ixp4xx and pxa25x both use this driver and provide a slightly
different set of register definitions for it. Aside from that,
the definition in the ixp4xx-regs.h header conflicts with the
on in the pxa27x device driver when compile-testing that:

This addresses both issues by moving all the definitions into the
pxa25x_udc driver itself. It turns out the only difference between
them was 'UDCCS_IO_ROF', and that could well be a mistake when it
was incorrectly copied from pxa25x to ixp4xx.

Bluetooth is only supported when network support is part of the kernel,
so it is a bit pointless to build the tosa-bt support without networking.
If we try anyway, we get a Kconfig warning:

This adds a dependency on CONFIG_NET to avoid that case.

When CONFIG_IWMMXT, the pxa3xx and pxa27x suspend/resume code
emits some xscale specific instructions, which are rejected
by the assembler, because gcc is built with -march=armv5
-mtune=xscale and passes that option to the assembler:
/tmp/cciHumzr.s:553: Error: selected processor does not support ARM mode `mra r2,r3,acc0'
/tmp/cciHumzr.s:605: Error: selected processor does not support ARM mode `mar acc0,r2,r3'

Overriding with -Wa,-march=xscale no longer works, so instead
I'm adding an explict ".arch_extension" directive in all four inline

order in the assembly output.

GPIO_SYSFS is a common kernel functionality, not something
that a board specific Kconfig should have to worry about.

This branch is the culmination of 5 years of effort to bring the ARMv6
and ARMv7 platforms together such that they can all be enabled and
boot the same kernel. It has been a tremendous amount of cleanup and
refactoring by a huge number of people, and creation of several new
(and major) subsystems to better abstract out all the platform details
in an appropriate manner.
The bulk of this branch is a large patchset from Arnd that brings several
of the more minor and older platforms we have closer to multiplatform
support. Among these are MMP, S3C64xx, Orion5x, mv78xx0 and realview
Much of this is moving around header files from old mach directories,
but there are also some cleanup patches of debug_ll (lowlevel debug
per-platform options) and other parts.
Linus Walleij also has some patchs to clean up the older ARM Realview
platforms by finally introducing DT support, and Rob Herring has some
for ARM Versatile which is now DT-only. Both of these platforms are
now multiplatform.
Finally, a couple of patches from Russell for Dove PMU, and a fix from
Valentin Rothberg for Exynos ADC, which were rebased on top of the
series to avoid conflicts.

The 'fixes' branch contains d5d4fdd86f ("irqchip/versatile-fpga:
Fix PCI IRQ mapping on Versatile PB") that is required for booting
the versatile platform prior to the rework in this branch, but
including both causes a build-time error.
I'm doing an evil merge here to pull in the fixes branch so we have
that commit included but at the same time revert the trivial change.
This gives us a bisectable history.

The ezx platform contains multiple machine descriptors, but not all
of them use all of the data structures, and it's possible to disable
all of the machines, which produces some harmless warnings:
mach-pxa/ezx.c:53:26: warning: 'ezx_pwm_lookup' defined but not used [-Wunused-variable]
mach-pxa/ezx.c:86:31: warning: 'ezx_fb_info_1' defined but not used [-Wunused-variable]
mach-pxa/ezx.c:107:31: warning: 'ezx_fb_info_2' defined but not used [-Wunused-variable]
mach-pxa/ezx.c:113:32: warning: 'ezx_devices' defined but not used [-Wunused-variable]
mach-pxa/ezx.c:117:22: warning: 'ezx_pin_config' defined but not used [-Wunused-variable]
This marks all those structures as __maybe_unused to avoid the warnings.
Obviously a configuration that contains the ezx platform but no specific
model is a bit silly, but it should not cause compile-time warnings.

The raumfeld.c file contains three similar machine definitions,
each with their own init function. If one or more of them are
disabled, we get compile-time warnings:
arm/mach-pxa/raumfeld.c:1070:123: warning: 'raumfeld_connector_init' defined but not used [-Wunused-function]
arm/mach-pxa/raumfeld.c:1082:123: warning: 'raumfeld_speaker_init' defined but not used [-Wunused-function]

In an old commit, we worked around the duplicate definition of
GPIO24_SSP1_SFRM in cm-x2xx.c, which includes files for both
pxa25x and pxa27x. Apparently the problem has come back and we
now have four additional duplicate symbols that cause warnings:
In file included from /git/arm-soc/arch/arm/mach-pxa/pxa27x.h:7:0,
from /git/arm-soc/arch/arm/mach-pxa/cm-x2xx.c:27:
/git/arm-soc/arch/arm/mach-pxa/mfp-pxa27x.h:21:0: warning: "GPIO86_GPIO" redefined
#define GPIO86_GPIO MFP_CFG_IN(GPIO86, AF0)
This uses the same hack as before and undefines all symbols that
are defined more than once. Fortunately, cm-x2xx does not need
any of these.

Currently, include/media is messy, as it contains both the V4L2 core
headers and some driver-specific headers on the same place. That makes
harder to identify what core headers should be documented and what
headers belong to I2C drivers that are included only by bridge/main
drivers that would require the functions provided by them.
Let's move those i2c specific files to its own subdirectory.
The files to move were produced via the following script:
mkdir include/media/i2c
(cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done)
(cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/*/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done)
for i in include/media/*.h; do n=`basename $i`; (for j in $(git grep -l $n); do dirname $j; done)|sort|uniq|grep -ve '^.$' > list; num=$(wc -l list|cut -d' ' -f1); if [ $num == 1 ]; then if [ "`grep i2c list`" != "" ]; then git mv $i include/media/i2c; fi; fi; done
And the references corrected via this script:
MAIN_DIR="media/"
PREV_DIR="media/"
DIRS="i2c/"
echo "Checking affected files" >&2
for i in $DIRS; do
for j in $(find include/$MAIN_DIR/$i -type f -name '*.h'); do
n=`basename $j`
git grep -l $n

The z2 machine calls pxa27x_set_pwrmode() in order to power off
the machine, but this function gets discarded early at boot because
it is marked __init, as pointed out by kbuild:
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x145c4): Section mismatch in reference from the function z2_power_off() to the function .init.text:pxa27x_set_pwrmode()
The function z2_power_off() references
the function __init pxa27x_set_pwrmode().
This is often because z2_power_off lacks a __init
annotation or the annotation of pxa27x_set_pwrmode is wrong.
This removes the __init section modifier to fix rebooting and the
build error.

The driver has a legacy code path that is required only because boards
still use the legacy method of requesting PWMs by global ID. Replacing

After the conversion of pxa architecture to common clock framework, the
NAND clock can be disabled on startup if no nand driver claims it.
In this case, it happens that if the bootloader used the NAND and set
the DFI arbitration bit, the next access to a static memory controller
area, such as an ethernet card, the system bus will stall, and the core
will be stalled forever.
Fix this by clearing the DFI arbritration bit in pxa3xx startup. The bit
will be enabled the pxa3xx-nand driver on need anyway. The only left
requirement is that upon pxa3xx-nand removal, the bit should be cleared
before the clock is disabled.

The drivers for the SA1100 and PXA RTCs are now mutually exclusive, so
add the memory resource for the sa1100-rtc device. Since the memory
resource is already present in the pxa_rtc_resources, that makes
sa1100_rtc_resources and pxa_rtc_resources equivalent, so use
pxa_rtc_resources for both devices and remove the duplicate
sa1100_rtc_resources.

Currently, the rtc-sa1100 and rtc-pxa drivers co-exist as rtc-pxa has a
superset of functionality. Having 2 drivers sharing the same memory
resource is not allowed by the driver model if resources are properly
declared. This problem was avoided by not adding memory resources to the
SA1100 RTC driver, but that prevents clean-up of the SA1100 driver.
This commit converts the PXA RTC to use the exported SA1100 RTC
functions. Now the sa1100-rtc and pxa-rtc devices are mutually
exclusive, so we must remove the sa1100-rtc from pxa27x and pxa3xx.

set_irq_flags is ARM specific with custom flags which have genirq
equivalents. Convert drivers to use the genirq interfaces directly, so we
can kill off set_irq_flags. The translation of flags is as follows:
IRQF_VALID -> !IRQ_NOREQUEST
IRQF_PROBE -> !IRQ_NOPROBE
IRQF_NOAUTOEN -> IRQ_NOAUTOEN
For IRQs managed by an irqdomain, the irqdomain core code handles clearing
and setting IRQ_NOREQUEST already, so there is no need to do this in
.map() functions and we can simply remove the set_irq_flags calls. Some
users also modify IRQ_NOPROBE and this has been maintained although it
is not clear that is really needed. There appears to be a great deal of
blind copy and paste of this code.

Init data marked const should be annotated with __initconst for
correctness and not __initdata. In some cases the array gathering
references to that data has to be marked const as well. This fixes
LTO builds that otherwise fail with section mismatch errors.
