I'm seeing series of e1000e resets (sometimes endless) at system boot

As result e1000_watchdog_task sees used tx buffer while carrier is off

The change is based on the issue found by Kangjie Lu <kjlu@umn.edu> where
we not checking the return value of a register read/write which could result
in a NULL pointer dereference if the read/write fails.
Since we are only trying to disable the far-end loopback, if the read
and write of register fails, we do not want to bail out of the function.
We just want to log that it failed to disable and continue on.

The match level computed by the driver gets to be wrong for decap

enc_dst_ip 192.168.0.9 enc_key_id 100 enc_dst_port 4789

action mirred egress redirect dev eth1
The FW errs for a missing matching meta-data indicator for the outer
headers (where we do have a match), and a wrong matching meta-data
indicator for the inner headers (where we don't have a match).
Fix that by taking into account the matching on the tunnel info and
relating the match level of the encapsulated packet to the firmware
inner headers indicator in case of decap.
As for vxlan we mandate a match on the tunnel udp dst port, and in general
we practically madndate a match on the source or dest ip for any IP tunnel,
the fix was done in a minimal manner around the tunnel match parsing code.

Sven Auhagen reports that if he changes a SFP+ module for a SFP module
on the Macchiatobin Single Shot, the link does not come back up. For
Sven, it is as easy as:
- Insert a SFP+ module connected, and use ping6 to verify link is up.
- Remove SFP+ module
- Insert SFP 1000base-X module use ping6 to verify link is up: Link
up event did not trigger and the link is down
but that doesn't show the problem for me. Locally, this has been
reproduced by:
- Boot with no modules.
- Insert SFP+ module, confirm link is up.
- Replace module with 25000base-X module. Confirm link is up.
- Set remote end down, link is reported as dropped at both ends.
- Set remote end up, link is reported up at remote end, but not local
end due to lack of link interrupt.
Fix this by setting up both GMAC and XLG interrupts for port 0, but
only unmasking the appropriate interrupt according to the current mode
set in the mac_config() method. However, only do the mask/unmask
dance when we are really changing the link mode to avoid missing any
link interrupts.

Add support for the RX checksum offload. This is enabled by default and
may be disabled and re-enabled using 'ethtool':
# ethtool -K eth0 rx off
# ethtool -K eth0 rx on
Some Ether MACs provide a simple checksumming scheme which appears to be
completely compatible with CHECKSUM_COMPLETE: sum of all packet data after
the L2 header is appended to packet data; this may be trivially read by
the driver and used to update the skb accordingly. The same checksumming
scheme is implemented in the EtherAVB MACs and now supported by the 'ravb'
driver.
In terms of performance, throughput is close to gigabit line rate with the
RX checksum offload both enabled and disabled. The 'perf' output, however,
appears to indicate that significantly less time is spent in do_csum() --
this is as expected.

Commit 62e04b7e0e ("sh_eth: rename 'sh_eth_cpu_data::hw_crc'") renamed
the field to 'hw_checksum' for the Ether DMAC "intelligent checksum",
however some Ether MACs implement a simpler checksumming scheme, so that
name now seems misleading. Rename that field to 'csmr' as the "intelligent
checksum" is always controlled by the CSMR register.

The following ALU32 logic shift supports are missing:
BPF_ALU | BPF_LSH | BPF_X
BPF_ALU | BPF_RSH | BPF_X
BPF_ALU | BPF_RSH | BPF_K
For BPF_RSH | BPF_K, it could be implemented using NFP direct shift
instruction. For the other BPF_X shifts, NFP indirect shifts sequences need
to be used.
Separate code-gen hook is assigned to each instruction to make the
implementation clear.

Shifts by zero do nothing, and should be treated as nops.
Even though compiler is not supposed to generate such instructions and
manual written assembly is unlikely to have them, but they are legal
instructions and have defined behavior.
This patch correct existing shifts code-gen to make sure they do nothing
when shift amount is zero except when the instruction is ALU32 for which
high bits need to be cleared.
For shift amount bigger than type size, already, NFP JIT back-end errors
out for immediate shift and only low 5 bits will be taken into account for
indirect shift which is the same as x86.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {

instance = kzalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo), GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can

WoL handling for the RTL8168 family is a little bit tricky because of
different types of broken BIOS and/or chip quirks.
Two known issues:
1. Network properly resumes from suspend only if WoL is enabled in the chip.
2. Some notebooks wake up immediately if system is suspended and network
device is wakeup-enabled.
Few patches tried to deal with this:
7edf6d314c ("r8169: disable WOL per default")
18041b5236 ("r8169: restore previous behavior to accept BIOS WoL
settings")
Currently we have the situation that the chip WoL settings as set by
the BIOS are respected (to prevent issue 1), but the device doesn't get
wakeup-enabled (to prevent issue 2).
This leads to another issue:
If systemd is told to set WoL it first checks whether the requested
settings are active already (and does nothing if yes). Due to the chip
WoL flags being set properly systemd assumes that WoL is configured
properly in our case. Result is that device doesn't get wakeup-enabled
and WoL doesn't work (until it's set e.g. by ethtool).
This patch now:
- leaves the chip WoL settings as is (to prevent issue 1)
- keeps the behavior to not wakeup-enable the device initially
(to prevent issue 2)
- In addition we report WoL as being disabled in get_wol, matching
that device isn't wakeup-enabled. If systemd is told to enable WoL,
it will therefore detect that it has to do something and will
call set_wol.
Of course the user still has the option to override this with
e.g. ethtool.
v2:
- Don't just exclude __rtl8169_get_wol() from compiling, remove it.
v3:
- adjust commit message

pull-request: bpf-next 2019-01-29
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Teach verifier dead code removal, this also allows for optimizing /
removing conditional branches around dead code and to shrink the
resulting image. Code store constrained architectures like nfp would
have hard time doing this at JIT level, from Jakub.
2) Add JMP32 instructions to BPF ISA in order to allow for optimizing
code generation for 32-bit sub-registers. Evaluation shows that this
can result in code reduction of ~5-20% compared to 64 bit-only code
generation. Also add implementation for most JITs, from Jiong.
3) Add support for __int128 types in BTF which is also needed for
vmlinux's BTF conversion to work, from Yonghong.
4) Add a new command to bpftool in order to dump a list of BPF-related
parameters from the system or for a specific network device e.g. in
terms of available prog/map types or helper functions, from Quentin.
5) Add AF_XDP sock_diag interface for querying sockets from user
space which provides information about the RX/TX/fill/completion
rings, umem, memory usage etc, from Björn.
6) Add skb context access for skb_shared_info->gso_segs field, from Eric.
7) Add support for testing flow dissector BPF programs by extending
existing BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN infrastructure, from Stanislav.
8) Split BPF kselftest's test_verifier into various subgroups of tests
in order better deal with merge conflicts in this area, from Jakub.
9) Add support for queue/stack manipulations in bpftool, from Stanislav.
10) Document BTF, from Yonghong.
11) Dump supported ELF section names in libbpf on program load
failure, from Taeung.
12) Silence a false positive compiler warning in verifier's BTF
handling, from Peter.
13) Fix help string in bpftool's feature probing, from Prashant.
14) Remove duplicate includes in BPF kselftests, from Yue.

VFs may hit VF-PF channel timeout while probing, as in some
cases it was observed that VF FLR and VF "acquire" message
transaction (i.e first message from VF to PF in VF's probe flow)
could occur simultaneously which could lead VF to fail sending
"acquire" message to PF as VF is marked disabled from HW perspective
due to FLR, which will result into channel timeout and VF probe failure.
In such cases, try retrying VF "acquire" message so that in later
attempts it could be successful to pass message to PF after the VF
FLR is completed and can be probed successfully.

When running tx switched traffic between VNICs
created via a bridge(to which VFs are added),
adapter drops the unicast packets in tx flow due to
VNIC's ucast mac being unknown to it. But VF interfaces
being in promiscuous mode should have caused adapter
to accept all the unknown ucast packets. Later, it
was found that driver doesn't really configure tx
promiscuous mode settings to accept all unknown unicast macs.
This patch fixes tx promiscuous mode settings to accept all
unknown/unmatched unicast macs and works out the scenario.

The LAN743x includes on chip One-Time-Programmable (OTP) memory.
This patch extends the ethtool EEPROM read/write interface to
access OTP memory space.
The currently existing interface is limited, as it does not
allow OTP read, and OTP writes are restricted to
offset==0, length==512, and data[0]==0xF3.
This patch removes these restrictions and adds a private flag
called OTP_ACCESS, which is used to switch between EEPROM, and
OTP modes.
The private flag OTP_ACCESS is configurable through the
ethtool --set-priv-flags command.
And visible through the
ethtool --show-priv-flags command.
By default OTP_ACCESS is false, and there for previously existing
EEPROM commands will work exactly the same. However now access to
OTP requires one extra step of setting OTP_ACCESS to true. This
flag controls the read, write, and length reporting, functions
of ethtool.
EEPROM presence is not checked when setting or clearing this flag.
If the EEPROM is not present, the user, as before, will need to
diagnose that using existing read and write function of ethtool,
while OTP_ACCESS is false.

Added comments as to why this patch is needed.

mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats can be called from two threads,
1) ndo_get_stats64
2) get_ethtool_stats
For this reason and to minimize concurrency issue impact on 64bit machines
mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats folds the software stats into a temporary
variable then copies it to the global driver stats, both ethtool and ndo
statistics callbacks will use the global software stats variable to report
whatever stats they need.
Actually ndo_get_stats64 doesn't need to fold the whole software stats
(mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats), all it needs is five counters to fill the
rtnl_link_stats64 relevant stats parameter.
Hence this patch introduces a simpler helper function to fold software
stats for ndo_get_stats64 which will work directly on rtnl_link_stats64
stats parameter and not on the global or even temporary mlx5e_sw_stats
variable.
Since now mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats is not called by ndo_get_stats64 we
can make it static and remove the temp var.
Unlike mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats the new fold stats function doesn't
need to zero out the output statistics parameter since it is already
done by the stack @dev_get_stats().
This patch is fixing stack usage of mlx5e_grp_sw_update_stats on
x86 gcc-4.9 and higher, the concurrency issue between mlx5's
ndo_get_stats64 and get_ethtool_stats is resolved as well.

In the non-linear SKB memory scheme of Striding RQ, a packet header
could cross page boundary. This requires special care in fast path
that costs LoC, additional runtime instructions and branches.
It could happen when the header (up to 256B) does not fit in
a single stride. Avoid this by working with a stride size that fits
the maximum possible header. Stride is increased form 64B to 256B.
Performance:
Tested packet rate for UDP streams, single ring, on ConnectX-5.
Configuration:

With VF LAG commit 491c37e49b "net/mlx5e: In case of LAG, one switch
parent id is used for all representors", both uplinks and all the VFs
(on both of them) get the same switchdev id.
This cause the provisioning system method to identify the rep of a given
VF from the parent PF PCI device using switchev id and physical port
name to break, since VFm of PF0 will have the (id, name) as VFm of PF1.
To fix that, we align to use the framework agreed upstream and set by
nfp commit 168c478e10 "nfp: wire get_phys_port_name on representors":
$ cat /sys/class/net/eth4_*/phys_port_name
p0
pf0vf0
pf0vf1
Now, the names will be different, e.g. pf0vf0 vs. pf1vf0.

A ternary match table is used for RFS. If multiple entries in the table
match, the entry with the lowest numerical values index is chosen as the
matching entry. Entries in the table are identified using an index
which takes a value from 0 to PRFSCAPR[NUM_RFS]-1 when accessed by the
PSI (PF).
Portions of the RFS table can be assigned to each SI by the PSI (PF)
driver in PSIaRFSCFGR. Assignments are cumulative, the entries assigned
to SIn start after those assigned to SIn-1. The total assignments to
all SIs must be equal to or less than the number available to the port
as found in PRFSCAPR.
For RSS, the Toeplitz hash function used requires two inputs, a 40B
random secret key that is supplied through the PRSSKR0-9 registers as well
as the relevant pieces of the packet header (n-tuple). The 6 LSB bits of
the hash function result will then be used as a pointer to obtain the tag
referenced in the 64 entry indirection table. The result will provide a
winning group which will be used to help route the received packet.

ENETC is a multi-port virtualized Ethernet controller supporting GbE
designs and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) functionality.
ENETC is operating as an SR-IOV multi-PF capable Root Complex Integrated
Endpoint (RCIE). As such, it contains multiple physical (PF) and
virtual (VF) PCIe functions, discoverable by standard PCI Express.
Introduce basic PF and VF ENETC ethernet drivers. The PF has access to
the ENETC Port registers and resources and makes the required privileged
configurations for the underlying VF devices. Common functionality is
controlled through so called System Interface (SI) register blocks, PFs
and VFs own a SI each. Though SI register blocks are almost identical,
there are a few privileged SI level controls that are accessible only to
PFs, and so the distinction is made between PF SIs (PSI) and VF SIs (VSI).
As such, the bulk of the code, including datapath processing, basic h/w
offload support and generic pci related configuration, is shared between
the 2 drivers and is factored out in common source files (i.e. enetc.c).
Major functionalities included (for both drivers):
MSI-X support for Rx and Tx processing, assignment of Rx/Tx BD ring pairs
to MSI-X entries, multi-queue support, Rx S/G (Rx frame fragmentation) and
jumbo frame (up to 9600B) support, Rx paged allocation and reuse, Tx S/G
support (NETIF_F_SG), Rx and Tx checksum offload, PF MAC filtering and
initial control ring support, VLAN extraction/ insertion, PF Rx VLAN
CTAG filtering, VF mac address config support, VF VLAN isolation support,

Procedure mlx4_init_user_cqes() handles returns by copy_to_user
incorrectly. copy_to_user() returns the number of bytes not copied.
Thus, a non-zero return should be treated as a -EFAULT error
(as is done elsewhere in the kernel). However, mlx4_init_user_cqes()
error handling simply returns the number of bytes not copied
(instead of -EFAULT).
Note, though, that this is a harmless bug: procedure mlx4_alloc_cq()
(which is the only caller of mlx4_init_user_cqes()) treats any
non-zero return as an error, but that returned error value is processed
internally, and not passed further up the call stack.

root port.
AtomicOp requests will be enabled only if the completer and all
intermediate pci bridges support PCI atomic operations.
This, together with appropriate settings in the NVCONFIG should enable
PCI atomic operations on the device.
PCI atomic operations were first introduced in PCI Express Base Specification
2.1. The Supported operations are Swap (Unconditional Swap), CAS (Compare and

Unlike other atomic operation modes PCI atomic operations gives the user
the option to do atomic operations on local memory, without involving verbs
api, without it compromising the operation's atomicity.

There are cases where instructions can be skipped without any

EtherAVB may provide a checksum of packet data appended to packet data. In
order to allow this checksum to be received by the host descriptor data
needs to be enlarged by 2 bytes to accommodate the checksum.
In the case of MTU-sized packets without a VLAN tag the
checksum were already accommodated by virtue of the space reserved for the
VLAN tag. However, a packet of MTU-size with a VLAN tag consumed all
packet data space provided by a descriptor leaving no space for the
trailing checksum.
This was not detected by the driver which incorrectly used the last two
bytes of packet data as the checksum and truncate the packet by two bytes.
This resulted all such packets being dropped.
A work around is to disable RX checksum offload
# ethtool -K eth0 rx off
This patch resolves this problem by increasing the size available for
packet data in RX descriptors by two bytes.

8 years ago, as part of 6f0333b8fd ("r8169: use 50% less ram for RX

from 8 bytes to 16 bytes. I found nothing explaining this, also the
chip specs I have only mention an 8 byte requirement.
AFAICS kmalloc_node() guarantees allocated memory to be at least
"long long" aligned, what is 8 bytes on a 32 bit machine.
So we can take this memory as-is and avoid some overhead by changing
the alignment requirement back to 8 bytes.

Triggering an asynchronous reset is problematic for the following
reasons, therefore reset the chip synchronously.
- The reset routine resets registers and parameters behind our back
what may collide with code executed after triggering the reset.
- __rtl8169_resume() is called as part of pm_runtime_get_sync() and
callers expect that the chip is fully resumed afterwards.
In context of this driver triggering an asynchonous reset should be

Previously the identifier used for indirect block callback registry
and for block rule cb registry (when done via indirect blocks) was the
pointer to the tunnel netdev we were interested in receiving updates on.
This worked fine if a single PF existed that registered one callback for
the tunnel netdev of interest. However, if multiple PFs are in place then
the 2nd PF tries to register with the same tunnel netdev identifier. This
leads to EEXIST errors and/or incorrect cb deletions.
Prevent this conflict by using the rpriv pointer as the identifier for
netdev indirect block cb registry, allowing each PF to register a unique
callback per tunnel netdev. For block cb registry, the same PF may
register multiple cbs to the same block if using TC shared blocks.
Instead of the rpriv, use the pointer to the allocated indr_priv data as
the identifier here. This means that there can be a unique block callback
for each PF/tunnel netdev combo.
