pull-request: bpf-next 2018-01-07
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add a start of a framework for extending struct xdp_buff without
having the overhead of populating every data at runtime. Idea
is to have a new per-queue struct xdp_rxq_info that holds read
mostly data (currently that is, queue number and a pointer to
the corresponding netdev) which is set up during rxqueue config
time. When a XDP program is invoked, struct xdp_buff holds a
pointer to struct xdp_rxq_info that the BPF program can then
walk. The user facing BPF program that uses struct xdp_md for
context can use these members directly, and the verifier rewrites
context access transparently by walking the xdp_rxq_info and
net_device pointers to load the data, from Jesper.
2) Redo the reporting of offload device information to user space
such that it works in combination with network namespaces. The
latter is reported through a device/inode tuple as similarly
done in other subsystems as well (e.g. perf) in order to identify
the namespace. For this to work, ns_get_path() has been generalized
such that the namespace can be retrieved not only from a specific
task (perf case), but also from a callback where we deduce the
netns (ns_common) from a netdevice. bpftool support using the new
uapi info and extensive test cases for test_offload.py in BPF
selftests have been added as well, from Jakub.
3) Add two bpftool improvements: i) properly report the bpftool
version such that it corresponds to the version from the kernel
source tree. So pick the right linux/version.h from the source
tree instead of the installed one. ii) fix bpftool and also
bpf_jit_disasm build with bintutils >= 2.9. The reason for the
build breakage is that binutils library changed the function
signature to select the disassembler. Given this is needed in
multiple tools, add a proper feature detection to the
tools/build/features infrastructure, from Roman.
4) Implement the BPF syscall command BPF_MAP_GET_NEXT_KEY for the
stacktrace map. It is currently unimplemented, but there are
use cases where user space needs to walk all stacktrace map
entries e.g. for dumping or deleting map entries w/o having to
close and recreate the map. Add BPF selftests along with it,
from Yonghong.
5) Few follow-up cleanups for the bpftool cgroup code: i) rename
the cgroup 'list' command into 'show' as we have it for other
subcommands as well, ii) then alias the 'show' command such that
'list' is accepted which is also common practice in iproute2,
and iii) remove couple of newlines from error messages using
p_err(), from Jakub.
6) Two follow-up cleanups to sockmap code: i) remove the unused
bpf_compute_data_end_sk_skb() function and ii) only build the
sockmap infrastructure when CONFIG_INET is enabled since it's
only aware of TCP sockets at this time, from John.

This driver uses a bool scheme for "enable"/"disable" when setting up

The driver code qede_free_fp_array() depend on kfree() can be called
with a NULL pointer. This stems from the qede_alloc_fp_array()
function which either (kz)alloc memory for fp->txq or fp->rxq.
This also simplifies error handling code in case of memory allocation
failures, but xdp_rxq_info_unreg need to know the difference.
Introduce xdp_rxq_info_is_reg() to handle if a memory allocation fails

'sh_eth' driver can only reset and initialize TSU of the first controller

'struct sh_eth_plat_data', however the platform code still never sets this
flag. I think that we can infer this information from the 'devno' variable
(set to 'platform_device::id') and reset/init the Ether controller pair
only for an even 'devno'; therefore 'sh_eth_plat_data::needs_init' can be

22000 devices (previously referenced as A000) can support
short transmit queues. This means that we have less DMA
descriptors (TFD) for those shorter queues.
Previous devices must still have 256 TFDs for each queue
even if those 256 TFDs point to fewer buffers.
When I introduced support for the short queues for 22000
I broke older devices by assuming that they can also have
less TFDs in their queues. This led to several problems:
1) the payload of the commands weren't unmapped properly
which caused the SWIOTLB to complain at some point.
2) the hardware could get confused and we get hardware

When switching the driver to the managed device API, I managed to break
the case of a dual Ether devices sharing a single TSU: the 2nd Ether port
wouldn't probe. Iwamatsu-san has tried to fix this but his patch was buggy
and he then dropped the ball...
The solution is to limit calling devm_request_mem_region() to the first
of the two ports sharing the same TSU, so devm_ioremap_resource() can't
be used anymore for the TSU resource...

In some circumstances, such as with bridging, it is possible that the
stack will add a devices own MAC address to its unicast address list.
If, later, the stack deletes this address, then the i40e driver will
receive a request to remove this address.
The driver stores its current MAC address as part of the MAC/VLAN hash
array, since it is convenient and matches exactly how the hardware
expects to be told which traffic to receive.
This causes a problem, since for more devices, the MAC address is stored
separately, and requests to delete a unicast address should not have the
ability to remove the filter for the MAC address.
Fix this by forcing a check on every address sync to ensure we do not
remove the device address.
There is a very narrow possibility of a race between .set_mac and
.set_rx_mode, if we don't change netdev->dev_addr before updating our
internal MAC list in .set_mac. This might be possible if .set_rx_mode is
going to remove MAC "XYZ" from the list, at the same time as .set_mac
changes our dev_addr to MAC "XYZ", we might possibly queue a delete,
then an add in .set_mac, then queue a delete in .set_rx_mode's
dev_uc_sync and then update netdev->dev_addr. We can avoid this by
moving the copy into dev_addr prior to the changes to the MAC filter
list.
A similar race on the other side does not cause problems, as if we're
changing our MAC form A to B, and we race with .set_rx_mode, it could
queue a delete from A, we'd update our address, and allow the delete.
This seems like a race, but in reality we're about to queue a delete of
A anyways, so it would not cause any issues.
A race in the initialization code is unlikely because the netdevice has
not yet been fully initialized and the stack should not be adding or
removing addresses yet.
Note that we don't (yet) need similar code for the VF driver because it
does not make use of __dev_uc_sync and __dev_mc_sync, but instead roles
its own method for handling updates to the MAC/VLAN list, which already
has code to protect against removal of the hardware address.

The original code for __i40e_chk_linearize didn't take into account the
fact that if a fragment is 16K in size or larger it has to be split over 2
descriptors and the smaller of those 2 descriptors will be on the trailing
edge of the transmit. As a result we can get into situations where we didn't
catch requests that could result in a Tx hang.
This patch takes care of that by subtracting the length of all but the
trailing edge of the stale fragment before we test for sum. By doing this
we can guarantee that we have all cases covered, including the case of a
fragment that spans multiple descriptors. We don't need to worry about
checking the inner portions of this since 12K is the maximum aligned DMA
size and that is larger than any MSS will ever be since the MTU limit for
jumbos is something on the order of 9K.

For paged accesses to be truely safe, we need to hold the bus lock to
prevent anyone else gaining access to the registers while we modify
them.
The phydev->lock mutex does not do this: userspace via the MII ioctl
can still sneak in and read or write any register while we are on a
different page, and the suspend/resume methods can be called by a
thread different to the thread polling the phy status.
Races have been observed with mvneta on SolidRun Clearfog with phylink,
particularly between the phylib worker reading the PHYs status, and
the thread resuming mvneta, calling phy_start() which then calls
through to m88e1121_config_aneg_rgmii_delays(), which tries to
read-modify-write the MSCR register:
CPU0 CPU1
marvell_read_status_page()
marvell_set_page(phydev, MII_MARVELL_FIBER_PAGE)
...
m88e1121_config_aneg_rgmii_delays()
set_page(MII_MARVELL_MSCR_PAGE)
phy_read(phydev, MII_88E1121_PHY_MSCR_REG)
marvell_set_page(phydev, MII_MARVELL_COPPER_PAGE);
...
phy_write(phydev, MII_88E1121_PHY_MSCR_REG)
The result of this is we end up writing the copper page register 21,
which causes the copper PHY to be disabled, and the link partner sees
the link immediately go down.
Solve this by taking the bus lock instead of the PHY lock, thereby
preventing other accesses to the PHY while we are accessing other PHY
pages.

Since commit 25cc72a338 ("mlxsw: spectrum: Forbid linking to devices that
have uppers") the driver forbids enslavement to netdevs that already
have uppers of their own, as this can result in various ordering
problems.
This requirement proved to be too strict for some users who need to be
able to enslave ports to a bridge that already has uppers. In this case,
we can allow the enslavement if the bridge is already known to us, as
any configuration performed on top of the bridge was already reflected
to the device.

Mellanox, mlx5 E-Switch updates 2017-12-19
This series includes updates for mlx5 E-Switch infrastructures,
to be merged into net-next and rdma-next trees.
Mark's patches provide E-Switch refactoring that generalize the mlx5
E-Switch vf representors interfaces and data structures. The serious is
mainly focused on moving ethernet (netdev) specific representors logic out
of E-Switch (eswitch.c) into mlx5e representor module (en_rep.c), which
provides better separation and allows future support for other types of vf
representors (e.g. RDMA).
Gal's patches at the end of this serious, provide a simple syntax fix and
two other patches that handles vport ingress/egress ACL steering name
spaces to be aligned with the Firmware/Hardware specs.
V1->V2:
- Addressed coding style comments in patches #1 and #7
- The series is still based on rc4, as now I see net-next is also @rc4.
V2->V3:
- Fixed compilation warning, reported by Dave.
Please pull and let me know if there's any problem.

Ethernet representors have a need to store data which is applicable
only for them. Create a priv void pointer in struct mlx5_eswitch_rep
and move mlx5e to store the relevant data there. As part of this change
we also initialize rep_if in mlx5e_rep_register_vf_vports() as otherwise the
E-Switch code will copy a priv value which is garbage.
We also rename mlx5_eswitch_get_uplink_netdev() to
mlx5_eswitch_get_uplink_priv() and make it return void *.
This way E-Switch code doesn't need to deal with net devices and

While in recovery process of PCI error (called EEH on PowerPC arch),
another PCI transaction could be corrupted causing a situation of
nested PCI errors. Also, this scenario could be reproduced with
error injection mechanisms (for debug purposes).
We observe that in case of nested PCI errors, bnx2x might attempt to
initialize its shmem and cause a kernel crash due to bad addresses
read from MCP. Multiple different stack traces were observed depending
on the point the second PCI error happens.
This patch avoids the crashes by:
* failing PCI recovery in case of nested errors (since multiple
PCI errors in a row are not expected to lead to a functional
adapter anyway), and by,
* preventing access to adapter FW when MCP is failed (we mark it as
failed when shmem cannot get initialized properly).

Add memory dump to the firmware crash data file which is provided to user space
via devcoredump interface. This makes it easier for firmware engineers to debug
firmware crashes.
Due to increased memory consumption the memory dump is disabled by default. To
enable it make sure that bit 3 is set in coredump_mask module parameter:
modprobe ath10k_core coredump_mask=0xffffffff
When RAMDUMP is enabled a buffer for the dump is allocated with vmalloc during
device probe. The actual memory layout is different in hardware versions and
the layouts are defined in coredump.c. The memory is split to regions and, to
get even finegrained control of what to copy, the region can split to smaller
sections as not all registers are readable (which could cause the whole system
to stall).

For memory dump support (it consumes quite a lot of memory) we need to control
what is exactly stored to the crash dump. Add a module parameter call
coredump_mask to do that. It's a bit mask of these values:
enum ath10k_fw_crash_dump_type {
ATH10K_FW_CRASH_DUMP_REGISTERS = 0,
ATH10K_FW_CRASH_DUMP_CE_DATA = 1,
ATH10K_FW_CRASH_DUMP_MAX,
};
For example, if we only want to store CE_DATA we would enable bit 2:
modprobe ath10k_core coredump_mask=0x2

Medford2 NICs support more than MC_CMD_MAC_NSTATS stats, and report the new
count in a field of MC_CMD_GET_CAPABILITIES_V4. This also means that the
end generation count moves (it is, as before, the last 64 bits of the DMA
buffer, but that is no longer MC_CMD_MAC_GENERATION_END).
So read num_mac_stats from the GET_CAPABILITIES response, if present;
otherwise assume MC_CMD_MAC_NSTATS; and always use num_mac_stats - 1 rather
than MC_CMD_MAC_GENERATION_END.

After TC offloads were converted to callbacks we have no choice
but keep track of the offloaded filter in the driver.
The check for nn->dp.bpf_offload_xdp was a stop gap solution
to make sure failed TC offload won't disable XDP, it's no longer
necessary. nfp_net_bpf_offload() will return -EBUSY on
TC vs XDP conflicts.

cls_bpf used to take care of tracking what offload state a filter
is in, i.e. it would track if offload request succeeded or not.
This information would then be used to issue correct requests to
the driver, e.g. requests for statistics only on offloaded filters,
removing only filters which were offloaded, using add instead of
replace if previous filter was not added etc.
This tracking of offload state no longer functions with the new
callback infrastructure. There could be multiple entities trying
to offload the same filter.
Throw out all the tracking and corresponding commands and simply
pass to the drivers both old and new bpf program. Drivers will
have to deal with offload state tracking by themselves.

When we have TSO enabled, we might end up segmenting it and
queuing multiple packets before the queue is even enabled. This causes
a warning.
For example, when starting TCP traffic on a non-zero TID, the
first packets may not have DSCP and will be sent on TID 0, while
the actual data packets will be sent on the TID.

Before the offending commit, mlx5 core did the IRQ affinity itself,
and it seems that the new generic code have some drawbacks and one
of them is the lack for user ability to modify irq affinity after

is required, until then we need to revert this patch.

The tunnel dest IP is required for separate offload to the NFP. It is
already verified that a dest IP must be present and must be an exact
match in the flower rule. Therefore, we can just extract the IP from the
generated offload rule and remove the unused mask variable. The function
is then no longer required to return the IP separately.
Because tun_dst is localised to tunnel matches, move the declaration to
the tunnel if branch.

Unlike ip tunnels, now vxlan doesn't do any pmtu update for
upper dst pmtu, even if it doesn't match the lower dst pmtu
any more.
The problem can be reproduced when reducing the vxlan lower
dev's pmtu when running netperf. In jianlin's testing, the
performance went to 1/7 of the previous.
This patch is to update the upper dst pmtu to match the lower
dst pmtu on tx path so that packets can be sent out even when
lower dev's pmtu has been changed.
It also works for metadata dst.
Note that this patch doesn't process any pmtu icmp packet.
But even in the future, the support for pmtu icmp packets
process of udp tunnels will also needs this.
The same thing will be done for geneve in another patch.

Under certain conditions EMAC stop reception of incoming packets and
continuously increment R_MISS register instead of saving data into
provided buffer. The commit implement workaround for such situation.
Then the stall detected EMAC will be restarted.
On device the stall looks like the device lost it's dynamic IP address.
ifconfig shows that interface error counter rapidly increments.
At the same time on the DHCP server we can see continues DHCP-requests
from device.
In real network stalls happen really rarely. To make them frequent the
broadcast storm[1] should be simulated. For simulation it is necessary
to make following connections:
1. connect radxarock to 1st port of switch
2. connect some PC to 2nd port of switch
3. connect two other free ports together using standard ethernet cable,
in order to make a switching loop.
After that, is necessary to make a broadcast storm. For example, running on
PC 'ping' to some IP address triggers ARP-request storm. After some
time (~10sec), EMAC on rk3188 will stall.
Observed and tested on rk3188 radxarock.

GMAC on the default. However, The GMAC should always be put to link down
state when the GMAC is disabled on certain target boards. Otherwise,
the driver possibly receives unexpected data from the floating hardware

certain protection in RX path to get rid of such kind of unexpected data

Observed on the 88e1512 in SGMII-to-Copper mode, negotiating pause
is unreliable. While the pause bits can be set in the advertisment
register, they clear shortly after negotiation with a link partner
commences irrespective of the cause of the negotiation.
While these bits may be correctly conveyed to the link partner on the
first negotiation, a subsequent negotiation (eg, due to negotiation
restart by the link partner, or reconnection of the cable) will result
in the link partner seeing these bits as zero, while the kernel
believes that it has advertised pause modes.
This leads to the local kernel evaluating (eg) symmetric pause mode,
while the remote end evaluates that we have no pause mode capability.
Since we can't guarantee the advertisment, disable pause mode support
with this PHY when used in SGMII-to-Copper mode.
The 88e1510 in RGMII-to-Copper mode appears to behave correctly.
