a1ac633912 drm/vmwgfx: Fix large topology crash
The previous attempt at this had an issue with with num_clips > 1
because it would always end up using the coordinates of the last
clip while using width and height calculated from the bounding
box of all the clips.

So if the last clip happens to be not at the top-left corner of
the bounding box, the CPU blit operation would go out of bounds.

The original intent was to coalesce all the clips into one blit,
and to do that we need to also track the starting point of the
content buffer.

07678eca2c drm/vmwgfx: Make sure backup_handle is always valid
When vmw_gb_surface_define_ioctl() is called with an existing buffer,
we end up returning an uninitialized variable in the backup_handle.

The fix is to first initialize backup_handle to 0 just to be sure, and
second, when a user-provided buffer is found, we will use the
req->buffer_handle as the backup_handle.

c2c446ad29 drm: Add DRM_MODE_ROTATE_ and DRM_MODE_REFLECT_ to UAPI
Add DRM_MODE_ROTATE_ and DRM_MODE_REFLECT_ defines to the UAPI
as a convenience.

Ideally the DRM_ROTATE_ and DRM_REFLECT_ property ids are looked up
through the atomic API, but realizing that userspace is likely to take
shortcuts and assume that the enum values are what is sent over the
wire.

As a result these defines are provided purely as a convenience to
userspace applications.

Changes since v3:
 - Switched away from past tense in comments
 - Add define name change to previously mis-spelled DRM_REFLECT_X comment
 - Improved the comment for the DRM_MODE_REFLECT_<axis> comment

Changes since v2:
 - Changed define prefix from DRM_MODE_PROP_ to DRM_MODE_
 - Fix compilation errors
 - Changed comment formatting
 - Deduplicated comment lines
 - Clarified DRM_MODE_PROP_REFLECT_ comment

Changes since v1:
 - Moved defines from drm.h to drm_mode.h
 - Changed define prefix from DRM_ to DRM_MODE_PROP_
 - Updated uses of the defines to the new prefix
 - Removed include from drm_rect.c
 - Stopped using the BIT() macro

f9b67f0014 dma-buf: Rename dma-ops to prevent conflict with kunmap_atomic macro
Seeing the kunmap_atomic dma_buf_ops share the same name with a macro
in highmem.h, the former can be aliased if any dma-buf user includes
that header.

I'm personally trying to include highmem.h inside scatterlist.h and this
breaks the dma-buf code proper.

Christoph Hellwig suggested [1] renaming it and pushing this patch ASAP.

To maintain consistency I've renamed all four of kmap* and kunmap* to be
map* and unmap*. (Even though only kmap_atomic presently conflicts.)

3bacf4361c drm/vmwgfx: Fix fbdev emulation using legacy functions
I've broken this by removing the backoff handling from the

commit 38b6441e4e

drm/atomic-helper: Remove the backoff hack from set_config

Fixing this properly would mean we get to wire the acquire_ctx all the
way through vmwgfx fbdev code, and doing the same was tricky for the
shared fbdev layer. Probably much better to look into refactoring the
entire code to use the helpers, but since that's not a viable
long-term solution fix the issue by open-coding a vmwgfx version of
set_config, that does the legacy backoff dance internally.

Note: Just compile-tested. The idea is to take
drm_mode_set_config_internal(), remove the "is this a legacy driver"
check, and whack the drm_atomic_legacy_backoff trickery at the end.
Since drm_atomic_legacy_backoff is for atomic commits only we need to
open-code it.

6d124ff845 drm: Add acquire ctx to ->gamma_set hook
Atomic helpers really want this instead of the hacked-up legacy
backoff trick, which unfortunately prevents drivers from using their
own private drm_modeset_locks.

Aside: There's a few atomic drivers (nv50, vc4, soon vmwgfx) which
don't yet use the new atomic color mgmt/gamma table stuff. Would be
nice if they could switch over and just hook up
drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set() instead.

Most of the display servers today use a single surface to represent the

For vmwgfx with STDU, the maximum surface size is limited to the

To get past this limitation, we will now allow using a large DMA buf

06ec41909e drm/vmwgfx: Add and connect CRTC helper functions
Atomic mode set requires us to refactor existing vmw_stdu_crtc_set_config
code into sections that check the validity of the new mode, and sections
that actually program the hardware state.

vmw_du_crtc_atomic_check() takes CRTC-related checking code. In a later
patch, vmw_du_primary_plane_atomic_check() will take framebuffer-related
checking code.

These helpers won't be called until we flip on the atomic support
flag or set drm_crtc_funcs->set_config to using the atomic
helper.

v2:
* The state->num_connector is actually the total number of potential
connectors, not just the one associated with the display unit.
The proper one to check is ->connector_mask.

* Add the check to only allow plane state to be the same as crtc state
  (Thanks to mlankhorst)

* Make sure to turn on SVGA mode before using VRAM. SVGA mode is
disabled in master_drop if dbdev is not running.

v3:
* Moved dot clock override to crtc_atomic_check

e7e11f9956 drm/vmwgfx: fix integer overflow in vmw_surface_define_ioctl()
In vmw_surface_define_ioctl(), the 'num_sizes' is the sum of the
'req->mip_levels' array. This array can be assigned any value from
the user space. As both the 'num_sizes' and the array is uint32_t,
it is easy to make 'num_sizes' overflow. The later 'mip_levels' is
used as the loop count. This can lead an oob write. Add the check of
'req->mip_levels' to avoid this.

b558dfd56a Merge tag 'drm-misc-next-2017-03-06' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/drm-misc into drm-next
First slice of drm-misc-next for 4.12:

Core/subsystem-wide:
- link status core patch from Manasi, for signalling link train fail
to userspace. I also had the i915 patch in here, but that had a
small buglet in our CI, so reverted.
- more debugfs_remove removal from Noralf, almost there now (Noralf
said he'll try to follow up with the stragglers).
- drm todo moved into kerneldoc, for better visibility (see
Documentation/gpu/todo.rst), lots of starter tasks in there.
- devm_ of helpers + use it in sti (from Ben Gaignard, acked by Rob
  Herring)
- extended framebuffer fbdev support (for fbdev flipping), and vblank
wait ioctl fbdev support (Maxime Ripard)
- misc small things all over, as usual
- add vblank callbacks to drm_crtc_funcs, plus make lots of good use
of this to simplify drivers (Shawn Guo)
- new atomic iterator macros to unconfuse old vs. new state

Small drivers:
- vc4 improvements from Eric
- vc4 kerneldocs (Eric)!
- tons of improvements for dw-mipi-dsi in rockchip from John Keeping
  and Chris Zhong.
- MAINTAINERS entries for drivers managed in drm-misc. It's not yet
official, still an experiment, but definitely not complete fail and
better to avoid confusion. We kinda screwed that up with drm-misc a
bit when we started committers last year.
- qxl atomic conversion (Gabriel Krisman)
- bunch of virtual driver polish (qxl, virgl, ...)
- misc tiny patches all over

This is the first time we've done the same merge-window blackout for
drm-misc as we've done for drm-intel for ages, hence why we have a
_lot_ of stuff queued already. But it's still only half of drm-intel
(room to grow!), and the drivers in drm-misc experiment seems to work
at least insofar as that you also get lots of driver updates here
alredy.

31788ca803 drm/vmwgfx: Work around drm removal of control nodes
vmware tools has a daemon that gets layout information from the GUI and
forwards it to DRM so that the modesetting code can set preferred connector
locations and modes. This daemon was using control nodes but since control
nodes were just removed, make it possible for the daemon to use render- or
primary nodes instead. This is a bit ugly but will allow drm to proceed with

9338203c4f drm: Don't include <drm/drm_encoder.h> in <drm/drm_crtc.h>
<drm/drm_crtc.h> used to define most of the in-kernel KMS API. It has
now been split into separate files for each object type, but still
includes most other KMS headers to avoid breaking driver compilation.

As a step towards fixing that problem, remove the inclusion of
<drm/drm_encoder.h> from <drm/drm_crtc.h> and include it instead where
appropriate. Also remove the forward declarations of the drm_encoder and
drm_encoder_helper_funcs structures from <drm/drm_crtc.h> as they're not
needed in the header.

<drm/drm_encoder.h> now has to include <drm/drm_mode.h> and contain a
forward declaration of struct drm_encoder in order to allow including it
as the first header in a compilation unit.

272725c7db drm: Nuke fb->bits_per_pixel
Replace uses of fb->bits_per_pixel with fb->format->cpp[0]*8.
Less duplicated information is a good thing.

Note that I didn't put parens around the cpp*8 in the below cocci script,
on account of not wanting spurious parens all over the place. Instead I
did the unsafe way, and tried to look over the entire diff to spot if
any dangerous expressions were produced. I didn't see any.

There are some cases where previously the code did X*bpp/8, so the
division happened after the multiplication. Those are now just X*cpp
so the division effectively happens before the multiplication,
but that is perfectly fine since bpp is always a multiple of 8.

dabdcdc982 drm/vmwgfx: Switch to mode_cmd2
Surprisingly few changes needed to make it happen. Compile-tested

should be the one instace added in this patch where we look at
fb->pixel_format (instead of fb->bpp and fb->depth), so minor
adjustements in the cocci-generated patches needed.

b3c11ac267 drm: move allocation out of drm_get_format_name()
The function's behaviour was changed in 90844f0004, without changing
its signature, causing people to keep using it the old way without
realising they were now leaking memory.
Rob Clark also noticed it was also allocating GFP_KERNEL memory in
atomic contexts, breaking them.

Instead of having to allocate GFP_ATOMIC memory and fixing the callers
to make them cleanup the memory afterwards, let's change the function's
signature by having the caller take care of the memory and passing it to
the function.
The new parameter is a single-field struct in order to enforce the size
of its buffer and help callers to correctly manage their memory.

6c5d064a2d drm: vmwgfx: Replace drm_fb_get_bpp_depth() with drm_format_info()
The driver is the last users of the drm_fb_get_bpp_depth() function. It

broad changes across the code base. As a first step, replace
drm_fb_get_bpp_depth() with drm_format_info() in order to stop exporting
the function to drivers.

The new DRM_ERROR() message comes from the vmw_create_dmabuf_proxy(),
vmw_kms_new_framebuffer_surface() and vmw_kms_new_framebuffer_dmabuf()
functions that currently print an error if the pixel format is
unsupported.

beca4cf553 drm/vmwgfx: Fix corner case screen target management

d5f1a291e3 drm/vmwgfx: Delay pinning fbdev framebuffer until after mode set
For the Screen Object display unit, we need to reserve a
guest-invisible region equal to the size of the framebuffer for
the host. This region can only be reserved in VRAM, whereas
the guest-visible framebuffer can be reserved in either VRAM or
GMR.

As such priority should be given to the guest-invisible
region otherwise in a limited VRAM situation, we can fail to
allocate this region.

This patch makes it so that vmw_sou_backing_alloc() is called

4ed7e2242b drm/vmwgfx: Check pin count before attempting to move a buffer
In certain scenarios, e.g. when fbdev is enabled, we can get into
a situation where a vmw_framebuffer_pin() is called on a buffer
that is already pinned.

When this happens, ttm_bo_validate() will unintentially remove the
TTM_PL_FLAG_NO_EVICT flag, thus unpinning it, and leaving no way
to actually pin the buffer again.

To prevent this, if a buffer is already pinned, then instead of
calling ttm_bo_validate(), just make sure the proposed placement is
compatible with the existing placement.

7c20d213dd drm/vmwgfx: Work around mode set failure in 2D VMs
In a low-memory 2D VM, fbdev can take up a large percentage of
available memory, making them unavailable for other DRM clients.

Since we do not take fbdev into account when filtering modes,
we end up claiming to support more modes than we actually do.

As a result, users get a black screen when setting a mode too
large for current available memory. In a low-memory VM
configuration, users can get a black screen for a mode as low
as 1024x768.

The current mode filtering mechanism keys off of
SVGA_REG_SUGGESTED_GBOBJECT_MEM_SIZE_KB, i.e. the maximum amount
of surface memory we have. Since this value is a performance
suggestion, not a hard limit, and since there should not be much
of a performance impact for a 2D VM, rather than filtering out
more modes, we will just allow ourselves to exceed the SVGA's
performance suggestion.

Also changed assumed bpp to 32 from 16 to make sure we can
actually support all the modes listed.

0b0d81e3b7 objtool, drm/vmwgfx: Fix "duplicate frame pointer save" warning
objtool reports the following warnings:

drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx_msg.o: warning: objtool: vmw_send_msg()+0x107: duplicate frame pointer save
drivers/gpu/drm/vmwgfx/vmwgfx_msg.o: warning: objtool: vmw_host_get_guestinfo()+0x252: duplicate frame pointer save

To quote Linus:

"The reason is that VMW_PORT_HB_OUT() uses a magic instruction sequence
(a "rep outsb") to communicate with the hypervisor (it's a virtual GPU
driver for vmware), and %rbp is part of the communication. So the
inline asm does a save-and-restore of the frame pointer around the
  instruction sequence.

I actually find the objtool warning to be quite reasonable, so it's
not exactly a false positive, since in this case it actually does
point out that the frame pointer won't be reliable over that
  instruction sequence.

But in this particular case it just ends up being the wrong thing -
the code is what it is, and %rbp just can't have the frame information
due to annoying magic calling conventions."

Silence the warnings by telling objtool to ignore the two functions
which use the VMW_PORT_HB_{IN,OUT} macros.

7ea7728387 drm/core: Change declaration for gamma_set.
Change return value to int to propagate errors from gamma_set,
and remove start parameter. Updates always use the full size,
and some drivers even ignore the start parameter altogether.

This is needed for atomic drivers, where an atomic commit can
fail with -EINTR or -ENOMEM and should be restarted. This is already
and issue for drm_atomic_helper_legacy_set_gamma, which this patch
fixes up.

76bf0db554 dma-buf/fence: make fence context 64 bit v2
Fence contexts are created on the fly (for example) by the GPU scheduler used
in the amdgpu driver as a result of an userspace request. Because of this
userspace could in theory force a wrap around of the 32bit context number
if it doesn't behave well.

Avoid this by increasing the context number to 64bits. This way even when
userspace manages to allocate a billion contexts per second it takes more
than 500 years for the context number to wrap around.

b1097aeb6f drm/vmwgfx: Rework screen target page flips v2
Gnome-Shell / Wayland assumes that page-flips can be done on a crtc
regardless of framebuffer size and the crtc position within the
framebuffer.

Therefore rework the screen target code to correctly handle changes in
framebuffer size and content_fb_type. Also make sure that we update
the screen target correctly when the content_fb_type is not
SAME_AS_DISPLAY.

This commit breaks out the framebuffer binding code from crtc_set so it
can be used both from page_flip() and crtc_set() and reworks those
functions a bit to be more robust.

a50e2bf5a0 drm/vmwgfx: Fix a width / pitch mismatch on framebuffer updates
When the framebuffer is a vmwgfx dma buffer and a proxy surface is
created, the vmw_kms_update_proxy() function requires that the proxy
surface width and the framebuffer pitch are compatible, otherwise
display corruption occurs as seen in gnome-shell/native with software
3D. Since the framebuffer pitch is determined by user-space, allocate
a proxy surface the width of which is based on the framebuffer pitch
rather than on the framebuffer width.
