3c7251f2f8 btrfs: tests: add helper for error messages and update them
The test failures are not clearly visible in the system log as they're
printed at INFO level. Add a new helper that is level ERROR. As this
touches almost all strings, I took the opportunity to unify them:

- decapitalize the first letter as there's a prefix and the text
  continues after ":"
- glue strings split to more lines and un-indent so they fit to 80
  columns
- use %llu instead of %Lu
- drop \n from the modified messages (test_msg is left untouched)

3c0efdf03b btrfs: tests/qgroup: Fix wrong tree backref level
The extent tree of the test fs is like the following:

BTRFS info (device (null)): leaf 16327509003777336587 total ptrs 1 free space 3919
  item 0 key (4096 168 4096) itemoff 3944 itemsize 51

ref#0: tree block backref root 5

And it's using an empty tree for fs tree, so there is no way that its
level can be 1.

For REAL (created by mkfs) fs tree backref with no skinny metadata, the
result should look like:

 item 3 key (30408704 EXTENT_ITEM 4096) itemoff 3845 itemsize 51
         refs 1 gen 4 flags TREE_BLOCK
         tree block key (256 INODE_ITEM 0) level 0

Fix the level to 0, so it won't break later tree level checker.

4a2d25cd93 btrfs: Remove redundant FLAG_VACANCY
Commit 9036c10208 ("Btrfs: update hole handling v2") added the
FLAG_VACANCY to denote holes, however there was already a consistent way
of flagging extents which represent hole - ->block_start =
EXTENT_MAP_HOLE. And also the only place where this flag is checked is
in the fiemap code, but the block_start value is also checked and every
other place in the filesystem detects holes by using block_start
value's. So remove the extra flag. This survived a full xfstest run.

e3b8a48585 Btrfs: fix reported number of inode blocks after buffered append writes
The patch from commit a7e3b975a0 ("Btrfs: fix reported number of inode
blocks") introduced a regression where if we do a buffered write starting
at position equal to or greater than the file's size and then stat(2) the
file before writeback is triggered, the number of used blocks does not
change (unless there's a prealloc/unwritten extent). Example:

  $ xfs_io -f -c "pwrite -S 0xab 0 64K" foobar
  $ du -h foobar
  0	foobar
  $ sync
  $ du -h foobar
  64K	foobar

The first version of that patch didn't had this regression and the second
version, which was the one committed, was made only to address some
performance regression detected by the intel test robots using fs_mark.

This fixes the regression by setting the new delaloc bit in the range, and
doing it at btrfs_dirty_pages() while setting the regular dealloc bit as
well, so that this way we set both bits at once avoiding navigation of the
inode's io tree twice. Doing it at btrfs_dirty_pages() is also the most
meaninful place, as we should set the new dellaloc bit when if we set the
delalloc bit, which happens only if we copied bytes into the pages at
__btrfs_buffered_write().

This was making some of LTP's du tests fail, which can be quickly run
using a command line like the following:

  $ ./runltp -q -p -l /ltp.log -f commands -s du -d /mnt

8b62f87bad Btrfs: rework outstanding_extents
Right now we do a lot of weird hoops around outstanding_extents in order
to keep the extent count consistent. This is because we logically
transfer the outstanding_extent count from the initial reservation
through the set_delalloc_bits. This makes it pretty difficult to get a
handle on how and when we need to mess with outstanding_extents.

Fix this by revamping the rules of how we deal with outstanding_extents.
Now instead everybody that is holding on to a delalloc extent is
required to increase the outstanding extents count for itself. This
means we'll have something like this

btrfs_delalloc_reserve_metadata	- outstanding_extents = 1
 btrfs_set_extent_delalloc	- outstanding_extents = 2
btrfs_release_delalloc_extents	- outstanding_extents = 1

for an initial file write. Now take the append write where we extend an
existing delalloc range but still under the maximum extent size

btrfs_delalloc_reserve_metadata - outstanding_extents = 2
  btrfs_set_extent_delalloc
    btrfs_set_bit_hook - outstanding_extents = 3
    btrfs_merge_extent_hook	- outstanding_extents = 2
btrfs_delalloc_release_extents	- outstanding_extnets = 1

In order to make the ordered extent transition we of course must now
make ordered extents carry their own outstanding_extent reservation, so
for cow_file_range we end up with

btrfs_add_ordered_extent	- outstanding_extents = 2
clear_extent_bit - outstanding_extents = 1
btrfs_remove_ordered_extent	- outstanding_extents = 0

This makes all manipulations of outstanding_extents much more explicit.
Every successful call to btrfs_delalloc_reserve_metadata _must_ now be
combined with btrfs_release_delalloc_extents, even in the error case, as
that is the only function that actually modifies the
outstanding_extents counter.

The drawback to this is now we are much more likely to have transient
cases where outstanding_extents is much larger than it actually should
be. This could happen before as we manipulated the delalloc bits, but
now it happens basically at every write. This may put more pressure on
the ENOSPC flushing code, but I think making this code simpler is worth
the cost. I have another change coming to mitigate this side-effect
somewhat.

I also added trace points for the counter manipulation. These were used
by a bpf script I wrote to help track down leak issues.

c995ab3cda btrfs: add a flag to iterate_inodes_from_logical to find all extent refs for uncompressed extents
The LOGICAL_INO ioctl provides a backward mapping from extent bytenr and
offset (encoded as a single logical address) to a list of extent refs.
LOGICAL_INO complements TREE_SEARCH, which provides the forward mapping
(extent ref -> extent bytenr and offset, or logical address). These are
useful capabilities for programs that manipulate extents and extent
references from userspace (e.g. dedup and defrag utilities).

When the extents are uncompressed (and not encrypted and not other),
check_extent_in_eb performs filtering of the extent refs to remove any
extent refs which do not contain the same extent offset as the 'logical'
parameter's extent offset. This prevents LOGICAL_INO from returning
references to more than a single block.

To find the set of extent references to an uncompressed extent from [a, b),
userspace has to run a loop like this pseudocode:

	for (i = a; i < b; ++i)
		extent_ref_set += LOGICAL_INO(i);

At each iteration of the loop (up to 32768 iterations for a 128M extent),
data we are interested in is collected in the kernel, then deleted by
the filter in check_extent_in_eb.

When the extents are compressed (or encrypted or other), the 'logical'
parameter must be an extent bytenr (the 'a' parameter in the loop).
No filtering by extent offset is done (or possible?) so the result is
the complete set of extent refs for the entire extent. This removes
the need for the loop, since we get all the extent refs in one call.

Add an 'ignore_offset' argument to iterate_inodes_from_logical,
[...several levels of function call graph...], and check_extent_in_eb, so
that we can disable the extent offset filtering for uncompressed extents.
This flag can be set by an improved version of the LOGICAL_INO ioctl to
get either behavior as desired.

There is no functional change in this patch. The new flag is always
false.

148deab223 radix-tree: improve multiorder iterators
This fixes several interlinked problems with the iterators in the
presence of multiorder entries.

1. radix_tree_iter_next() would only advance by one slot, which would
result in the iterators returning the same entry more than once if
   there were sibling entries.

2. radix_tree_next_slot() could return an internal pointer instead of
a user pointer if a tagged multiorder entry was immediately followed by
   an entry of lower order.

3. radix_tree_next_slot() expanded to a lot more code than it used to
when multiorder support was compiled in. And I wasn't comfortable with
entry_to_node() being in a header file.

Fixing radix_tree_iter_next() for the presence of sibling entries
necessarily involves examining the contents of the radix tree, so we now
need to pass 'slot' to radix_tree_iter_next(), and we need to change the
calling convention so it is called *before* dropping the lock which
protects the tree. Also rename it to radix_tree_iter_resume(), as some
people thought it was necessary to call radix_tree_iter_next() each time
around the loop.

radix_tree_next_slot() becomes closer to how it looked before multiorder
support was introduced. It only checks to see if the next entry in the
chunk is a sibling entry or a pointer to a node; this should be rare
enough that handling this case out of line is not a performance impact
(and such impact is amortised by the fact that the entry we just
processed was a multiorder entry). Also, radix_tree_next_slot() used to
force a new chunk lookup for untagged entries, which is more expensive
than the out of line sibling entry skipping.

781e3bcf0e Btrfs: expand free space tree sanity tests to catch endianness bug
The free space tree format conversion functions were broken on
big-endian systems, but the sanity tests didn't catch it because all of
the operations were aligned to multiple words. This was meant to catch
any bugs in the extent buffer code's handling of high memory, but it
ended up hiding the endianness bug. Expand the tests to do both
sector-aligned and page-aligned operations.

9426ce754f Btrfs: fix extent buffer bitmap tests on big-endian systems
The in-memory bitmap code manipulates words and is therefore sensitive
to endianness, while the extent buffer bitmap code addresses bytes and
is byte-order agnostic. Because the byte addressing of the extent buffer
bitmaps is equivalent to a little-endian in-memory bitmap, the extent
buffer bitmap tests fail on big-endian systems.

34b3e6c92a ("Btrfs: self-tests: Fix extent buffer bitmap test fail on
BE system") worked around another endianness bug in the tests but missed
this one because ed9e4afdb0 ("Btrfs: self-tests: Execute page
straddling test only when nodesize < PAGE_SIZE") disables this part of
the test on ppc64. That change lost the original meaning of the test,
however. We really want to test that an equivalent series of operations
using the in-memory bitmap API and the extent buffer bitmap API produces
equivalent results.

To fix this, don't use memcmp_extent_buffer() or write_extent_buffer();
do everything bit-by-bit.

34b3e6c92a Btrfs: self-tests: Fix extent buffer bitmap test fail on BE system
In __test_eb_bitmaps(), we write random data to a bitmap. Then copy
the bitmap to another bitmap that resides inside an extent buffer.
Later we verify the values of corresponding bits in the bitmap and the
bitmap inside the extent buffer. However, extent_buffer_test_bit()
reads in byte granularity while test_bit() reads in unsigned long
granularity. Hence we end up comparing wrong bits on big-endian
systems such as ppc64. This commit fixes the issue by reading the
bitmap in byte granularity.

09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_get() -> get_page();

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

28f0779a3f btrfs tests: replace whole ops structure for free space tests
Preparatory work for making btrfs_free_space_op constant. In
test_steal_space_from_bitmap_to_extent, we substitute use_bitmap with
own version thus preventing constification. We can rework it so we
replace the whole structure with the correct function pointers.

ee22184b53 Btrfs: use linux/sizes.h to represent constants
We use many constants to represent size and offset value. And to make
code readable we use '256 * 1024 * 1024' instead of '268435456' to
represent '256MB'. However we can make far more readable with 'SZ_256MB'
which is defined in the 'linux/sizes.h'.

So this patch replaces 'xxx * 1024 * 1024' kind of expression with
single 'SZ_xxxMB' if 'xxx' is a power of 2 then 'xxx * SZ_1M' if 'xxx' is
not a power of 2. And I haven't touched to '4096' & '8192' because it's
more intuitive than 'SZ_4KB' & 'SZ_8KB'.

9ee49a047d btrfs: switch extent_state state to unsigned
Currently there's a 4B hole in the structure between refs and state and there
are only 16 bits used so we can make it unsigned. This will get a better
packing and may save some stack space for local variables.

The size of extent_state gets reduced by 8B and there are usually a lot
of slab objects.

47ab2a6c68 Btrfs: remove empty block groups automatically
One problem that has plagued us is that a user will use up all of his space with
data, remove a bunch of that data, and then try to create a bunch of small files
and run out of space. This happens because all the chunks were allocated for
data since the metadata requirements were so low. But now there's a bunch of
empty data block groups and not enough metadata space to do anything. This
patch solves this problem by automatically deleting empty block groups. If we
notice the used count go down to 0 when deleting or on mount notice that a block
group has a used count of 0 then we will queue it to be deleted.

When the cleaner thread runs we will double check to make sure the block group
is still empty and then we will delete it. This patch has the side effect of no
longer having a bunch of BUG_ON()'s in the chunk delete code, which will be
helpful for both this and relocate. Thanks,

2000552396 Btrfs: improve free space cache management and space allocation
While under random IO, a block group's free space cache eventually reaches
a state where it has a mix of extent entries and bitmap entries representing
free space regions.

As later free space regions are returned to the cache, some of them are merged
with existing extent entries if they are contiguous with them. But others are
not merged, because despite the existence of adjacent free space regions in
the cache, the merging doesn't happen because the existing free space regions
are represented in bitmap extents. Even when new free space regions are merged
with existing extent entries (enlarging the free space range they represent),
we create chances of having after an enlarged region that is contiguous with
some other region represented in a bitmap entry.

Both clustered and non-clustered space allocation work by iterating over our
extent and bitmap entries and skipping any that represents a region smaller
then the allocation request (and giving preference to extent entries before
bitmap entries). By having a contiguous free space region that is represented
by 2 (or more) entries (mix of extent and bitmap entries), we end up not
satisfying an allocation request with a size larger than the size of any of
the entries but no larger than the sum of their sizes. Making the caller assume
we're under a ENOSPC condition or force it to allocate multiple smaller space
regions (as we do for file data writes), which adds extra overhead and more
chances of causing fragmentation due to the smaller regions being all spread
apart from each other (more likely when under concurrency).

For example, if we have the following in the cache:

* extent entry representing free space range: [128Mb - 256Kb, 128Mb[

* bitmap entry covering the range [128Mb, 256Mb[, but only with the bits
representing the range [128Mb, 128Mb + 768Kb[ set - that is, only that
space in this 128Mb area is marked as free

An allocation request for 1Mb, starting at offset not greater than 128Mb - 256Kb,
would fail before, despite the existence of such contiguous free space area in the
cache. The caller could only allocate up to 768Kb of space at once and later another
256Kb (or vice-versa). In between each smaller allocation request, another task
working on a different file/inode might come in and take that space, preventing the
former task of getting a contiguous 1Mb region of free space.

Therefore this change implements the ability to move free space from bitmap
entries into existing and new free space regions represented with extent
entries. This is done when a space region is added to the cache.

A test was added to the sanity tests that explains in detail the issue too.

Some performance test results with compilebench on a 4 cores machine, with
32Gb of ram and using an HDD follow.

Test: compilebench -D /mnt -i 30 -r 1000 --makej

sanity test for btrfs_get_extent to make sure I don't break anything in the
meantime. This patch just puts btrfs_get_extent through its paces by giving it
a completely unreasonable mapping to look at and make sure it is giving us back
maps that make sense. Thanks,

294e30fee3 Btrfs: add tests for find_lock_delalloc_range
So both Liu and I made huge messes of find_lock_delalloc_range trying to fix
stuff, me first by fixing extent size, then him by fixing something I broke and
then me again telling him to fix it a different way. So this is obviously a
candidate for some testing. This patch adds a pseudo fs so we can allocate fake
inodes for tests that need an inode or pages. Then it addes a bunch of tests to
make sure find_lock_delalloc_range is acting the way it is supposed to. With
this patch and all of our previous patches to find_lock_delalloc_range I am sure
it is working as expected now. Thanks,

06ea65a398 Btrfs: add a sanity test for btrfs_split_item
While looking at somebodys corruption I became completely convinced that
btrfs_split_item was broken, so I wrote this test to verify that it was working
as it was supposed to. Thankfully it appears to be working as intended, so just
add this test to make sure nobody breaks it in the future. Thanks,

dc11dd5d70 Btrfs: separate out tests into their own directory
The plan is to have a bunch of unit tests that run when btrfs is loaded when you
build with the appropriate config option. My ultimate goal is to have a test
for every non-static function we have, but at first I'm going to focus on the
things that cause us the most problems. To start out with this just adds a
tests/ directory and moves the existing free space cache tests into that
directory and sets up all of the infrastructure. Thanks,
