During probe the driver allocates dummy I2C device for companion chip
with i2c_new_dummy() but it does not check the return value of this call.
In case of error (i2c_new_device(): memory allocation failure or I2C
address cannot be used) this function returns NULL which is later used
by regmap_init_i2c().
If i2c_new_dummy() fails for companion device, fail also the probe for

This changes the following mechanisms in the TC3589x device tree
probing path:
- Use the .of_match_table in struct device_driver to match the
device in the device tree.
- Add matches for the proper compatible strings "toshiba,..."
and all sub-variants, just as is done for the .id matches.
- Move over all the allocation of platform data etc to the
tc3589x_of_probe() function and follow the pattern of passing
a platform data pointer back, or an error pointer on error,
as found in the STMPE driver.
- Match the new (proper) compatible strings for the GPIO and
keypad MFD cells.
- Use of_device_is_compatible() rather than just !strcmp()
to discover which cells to instantiate.

On the wm5102 the register patches are applied manually, rather than by
the regmap core. This application is wrapped in calls to
regcache_cache_bypass. However, this is dangerous as other threads may
be accessing the hardware at the same time as the pm_runtime operations
and if they do so during the period whilst cache_bypass is enabled those
writes will miss the cache when they shouldn't.
Apply the register patch using the new regmap_multi_reg_write_bypassed
function to avoid this problem. Also remove the call to
regcache_cache_bypass from the hardware patch application as it is
unneeded there and creates a similar window for writes to miss the
cache.

Currently the I2C device Ids conflict for the MFD and CODEC so
cannot be both instantiated on one platform. This patch updates
the Ids and names to make them unique from each other.
It should be noted that the I2C addresses for both PMIC and CODEC
are modifiable so instantiation of the two are kept as separate

mfd_add_device() assigns .of_node in the device objects it creates only
if the mfd_cell for the device has the .of_compatible field set and the
DT node for the top-level MFD device contains a child whose compatible
property matches the cell's .of_compatible field.
This leaves .of_node unset in many cases. When this happens, entries in
the DT /aliases property which refer to the top-level MFD DT node will
never match the MFD child devices, hence causing the requested alias not
to be honored.
Solve this by setting each MFD child device's .of_node equal to the top-
level MFD device's .of_node field in the cases where it would otherwise
remain unset.
The first use-case for this will be aliases for the TPS6586x's RTC
device.

LP3943 has 16 output pins which can be used as GPIO expander and PWM generator.
* Regmap I2C interface for R/W LP3943 registers
* Atomic operations for output pin assignment
The driver should check whether requested pin is available or not.
If the pin is already used, pin request returns as a failure.
A driver data, 'pin_used' is checked when gpio_request() and
pwm_request() are called. If the pin is available, then pin_used is set.
And it is cleared when gpio_free() and pwm_free().

Add PM suspend/resume ops to the sec MFD core driver and make it a wake
up source. This allows proper waking from suspend to RAM and also fixes
broken interrupts after resuming:
[ 42.705703] sec_pmic 7-0066: Failed to read IRQ status: -5
Interrupts stop working after first resume initiated by them (e.g. by
RTC Alarm interrupt) because interrupt registers were not cleared properly.
When device is woken up from suspend by RTC Alarm, an interrupt occurs
before resuming I2C bus controller. The interrupt is handled by
regmap_irq_thread which tries to read RTC registers. This read fails
(I2C is still suspended) and RTC Alarm interrupt is disabled.
Disable the S5M8767 interrupts during suspend (disable_irq()) and enable
them during resume so the device will be still woken up but the interrupt
won't happen before resuming I2C bus.

Enable regmap's regcache for the audio registers:

If the regcache is enabled on the regmap module drivers might need to access
to HW register(s) in certain cases in cache bypass mode.
As an example of this is the audio block's ANAMICL register. In normal
operation the content can be cached but during initialization one bit from
the register need to be monitored. With the twl_set_regcache_bypass() the
client driver can switch regcache bypass on and off when it is needed so
we can utilize the regcache for more registers.

The new twl_get_regmap() function will return a pointer to the regmap needed
for the given module.
Since both read and write function were using the same code to do the lookup
we can reuse this in both places to simplify the code.

The ADC driver always programs all possible ADC values and discards
them except for the value IIO asked for. On the am335x-evm the driver
programs four values and it takes 500us to gather them. Reducing the number
of conversations down to the (required) one also reduces the busy loop down
to 125us.
This leads to another error, namely the FIFOCOUNT register is sometimes
(like one out of 10 attempts) not updated in time leading to EBUSY.
The next read has the FIFOCOUNT register updated.
Checking for the ADCSTAT register for being idle isn't a good choice either.
The problem is that if TSC is used at the same time, the HW completes the
conversation for ADC *and* before the driver noticed it, the HW begins to
perform a TSC conversation and so the driver never seen the HW idle. The
next time we would have two values in the FIFO but since the driver reads
everything we always see the current one.
So instead of polling for the IDLE bit in ADCStatus register, we should
check the FIFOCOUNT register. It should be one instead of zero because we
request one value.
This change in turn leads to another error. Sometimes if TSC & ADC are
used together the TSC starts generating interrupts even if nobody
actually touched the touchscreen. The interrupts seem valid because TSC's
FIFO is filled with values for each channel of the TSC. This condition stops
after a few ADC reads but will occur again. Not good.
On top of this (even without the changes I just mentioned) there is a ADC
& TSC lockup condition which was reported to me by Jeff Lance including the
following test case:
A busy loop of "cat /sys/bus/iio/devices/iio\:device0/in_voltage4_raw"
and a mug on touch screen. With this setup, the hardware will lockup after
something between 20 minutes and it could take up to a couple of hours.
During that lockup, the ADCSTAT register says 0x30 (or 0x70) which means
STEP_ID = IDLE and FSM_BUSY = yes. That means the hardware says that it is
idle and busy at the same time which is an invalid condition.
For all this reasons I decided to rework this TSC/ADC part and add a
handshake / synchronization here:
First the ADC signals that it needs the HW and writes a 0 mask into the
SE register. The HW (if active) will complete the current conversation
and become idle. The TSC driver will gather the values from the FIFO
(woken up by an interrupt) and won't "enable" another conversation.
Instead it will wake up the ADC driver which is already waiting. The ADC
driver will start "its" conversation and once it is done, it will
enable the TSC steps so the TSC will work again.
After this rework I haven't observed the lockup so far. Plus the busy
loop has been reduced from 500us to 125us.
The continues-read mode remains unchanged.

The update of the SE register in MFD doesn't look right as it has
nothing to do with it. The better place to do it is in TSC driver (which
is already doing it) and in the ADC driver which needs this only in the
continues mode.

The purpose of reg_se_cache has been defeated. It should avoid the
read-back of the register to avoid the latency and the fact that the
bits are reset to 0 after the individual conversation took place.
The reason why this is required like this to work, is that read-back of
the register removes the bits of the ADC so they do not start another
conversation after the register is re-written from the TSC side for the
update.
To avoid the not required read-back I introduce a "set once" variant which
does not update the cache mask. After the conversation completes, the
bit is removed from the SE register anyway and we don't plan a new
conversation "any time soon". The current set function is renamed to
set_cache to distinguish the two operations.
This is a small preparation for a larger sync-rework.

Rename old regmap field of "struct sec_pmic_dev" to "regmap_pmic" and

On S5M8767A registers were not properly updated and read due to usage of

On this chip family the RTC has different I2C address than PMIC so
additional regmap is needed.

LOC is found in the new DICE driver, and other small changes are
scattered over the whole sound subtree (which is a common pattern).
Below are highlights:
- ALSA core:
* Memory allocation support with genpool
* Fix blocking in drain ioctl of compress_offload
- HD-audio:
* Improved AMD HDMI supports
* Intel HDMI detection improvements
* thinkpad_acpi mute-key integration

* Clean up endpoint handling codes
- ASoC:
* Further work on the dmaengine helpers, including support for
configuring the parameters for DMA by reading the capabilities of
the DMA controller which removes some guesswork and magic numbers
from drivers.
* A refresh of the documentation.
* Conversions of many drivers to direct regmap API usage in order to

- Allow MFDs to distribute regulator supplies to child devices so we

If the first call to mfd_add_device() fails, no child devices have been
registered to the parent yet, and thus mfd_remove_devices() won't find
anything to remove nor free.
Hence the previously allocated array of atomic_t objects will leak.
Free the array instead of calling mfd_remove_devices() on failure during
the first loop iteration to fix this.

Commit 1e29af62f2 ("mfd: Add refcounting
support to mfd_cells") had to drop the "const" keyword on the "cell"
parameter of mfd_add_devices(), as it added the refcounting pointers
to the objects of the passed mfd_cell array itself.
However, the mfd core code operates on copies of the mfd_cell objects,
so there's no need to modify the originally passed objects.
Hence, move the setting of the refcounting pointers from mfd_add_devices()
to mfd_platform_add_cell(), where the copy of the mfd_cell objects is made.
mfd_clone_cell() can just pass (a copy of) the original usage_count
pointer.
This allows to make the "cell" parameter of mfd_add_devices() "const"
again, and avoids future race conditions when registering multiple
instances of the same device in parallel.

When setting GPIO defaults we are required to make a distinction
between writing 0x0000 to the registers and leaving them untouched.
When we receive between 0x0000 and 0xFFFF (inclusive) from either
Platform Data or Device Tree, we should write the provided
configuration to the device. Conversely, when we receive >0xFFFF we
should leave the device configuration at its default setting.
This patch fixes a bug and ensures that configuration 0x0000 isn't
mistakenly written when the intention was to keep the default one.

In some platforms, specially Thinkpad series, rts5249 won't be
initialized properly. So we need adjust some phy parameters to
improve the compatibility issue.
It is a little different between simulation and real chip. We have
no idea about which configuration is better before tape-out. We set
default settings according to simulation, but need to tune these
parameters after getting the real chip.
I can't explain every change in detail here. The below information is
just a rough description:
PHY_REG_REV: Disable internal clkreq_tx, enable rx_pwst
PHY_BPCR: No change, just turn the magic number to macro definitions
PHY_PCR: Change OOBS sensitivity, from 60mV to 90mV
PHY_RCR2: Control charge-pump current automatically
PHY_FLD4: Use TX cmu reference clock
PHY_RDR: Change RXDSEL from 30nF to 1.9nF
PHY_RCR1: Change the duration between adp_st and asserting cp_en from
0.32 us to 0.64us
PHY_FLD3: Adjust internal timers

rtc-tps6586x calls enable/disable_irq_wake() during suspend/resume. Since
the main tps6586x irq_chip doesn't implement .irq_set_wake, this causes
the RTC's enable_irq_wake() to fail, and the disable_irq_wake() to spew a
WARN about unbalanced wake disable. Solve this by implementing
.irq_set_wake.
Also, I assume that enable_irq_wake() shouldn't be called unconditionally
in tps6586x_irq_init(), since this is now triggered by IRQ children
setting up their cascaded IRQs for wake. So, remove that.

Occasionally, it is useful to map supplies from a child device onto the
MFD device. A typical usecase for this would be if the MFD device is
represented as a single node in device tree. All supplies will be
defined in device tree as existing on the MFD device. When a child
depends on frameworks which might have no knowledge of MFD to lookup
supplies on its behalf the supply will not be found.
This patch adds a list of supplies that should be looked up on the
parent rather than the child as part of the mfd_cell structure.

Error handling is on-its-head in this function. After invoking a function we
should examine the return code and return the error value if there was one.
Instead, this function checks for success and goes onto provide functionality
if success was received. Not so bad in a simple function like this, but in
a more complex one this could end up drowning in curly brackets.

Since the TWL6030 PMIC is used with OMAP4 SoCs only and OMAP4 legacy

descriptors during system boot to support TWL6030 IRQs.
Hence, convert it to use linear irq_domain and move IRQ configuration in
.map()/.unmap() callbacks of irq_domain. So, IRQ mapping and descriptors
allocation will be performed dynamically basing on DT configuration.

1) Removed request_irq() and replaced it with request_threaded_irq().
2) Removed generic_handle_irq() and replaced it with
handle_nested_irq().
Handling of these interrupts is nested, as we are handling an
interrupt (for e.g rtc, mmc1) when we are still servicing TWL irq.
3) Removed I2C read-retry logic for the case when twl_i2c_read() is
failed inside IRQ handler - there is no sense to do that, so just report
an error and return.
4) Each nested IRQ is configured with corresponding parent_irq,
which need to be retriggered in case if nested IRQ is marked
as IRQS_PENDING.

This patch clears all the events received while powering up DA9055.
While powering up DA9055, both power sequencer and gpio events are received.
These events remain uncleared after boot up, due to which further event handling
also fails. DA9055 has three event registers. The event register bits are set
to '1' on receiving an event. The events can be cleared on writing a '1' to
the set bit, which would then clear that bit to '0'. After applying this patch
we have a clean state after boot up.

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.11-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"This time the total number of ACPI commits is slightly greater than
the number of cpufreq commits, but Viresh Kumar (who works on cpufreq)
remains the most active patch submitter.
To me, the most significant change is the addition of offline/online
device operations to the driver core (with the Greg's blessing) and
the related modifications of the ACPI core hotplug code. Next are the
freezer updates from Colin Cross that should make the freezing of
tasks a bit less heavy weight.
We also have a couple of regression fixes, a number of fixes for
issues that have not been identified as regressions, two new drivers
and a bunch of cleanups all over.
Highlights:
- Hotplug changes to support graceful hot-removal failures.
It sometimes is necessary to fail device hot-removal operations
gracefully if they cannot be carried out completely. For example,
if memory from a memory module being hot-removed has been allocated
for the kernel's own use and cannot be moved elsewhere, it's
desirable to fail the hot-removal operation in a graceful way
rather than to crash the kernel, but currenty a success or a kernel
crash are the only possible outcomes of an attempted memory
hot-removal. Needless to say, that is not a very attractive
alternative and it had to be addressed.
However, in order to make it work for memory, I first had to make
it work for CPUs and for this purpose I needed to modify the ACPI
processor driver. It's been split into two parts, a resident one
handling the low-level initialization/cleanup and a modular one
playing the actual driver's role (but it binds to the CPU system
device objects rather than to the ACPI device objects representing
processors). That's been sort of like a live brain surgery on a
patient who's riding a bike.
So this is a little scary, but since we found and fixed a couple of
regressions it caused to happen during the early linux-next testing
(a month ago), nobody has complained.
As a bonus we remove some duplicated ACPI hotplug code, because the
ACPI-based CPU hotplug is now going to use the common ACPI hotplug
code.
- Lighter weight freezing of tasks.
These changes from Colin Cross and Mandeep Singh Baines are
targeted at making the freezing of tasks a bit less heavy weight
operation. They reduce the number of tasks woken up every time
during the freezing, by using the observation that the freezer
simply doesn't need to wake up some of them and wait for them all
to call refrigerator(). The time needed for the freezer to decide
to report a failure is reduced too.
Also reintroduced is the check causing a lockdep warining to
trigger when try_to_freeze() is called with locks held (which is
generally unsafe and shouldn't happen).
- cpufreq updates
First off, a commit from Srivatsa S Bhat fixes a resume regression
introduced during the 3.10 cycle causing some cpufreq sysfs
attributes to return wrong values to user space after resume. The
fix is kind of fresh, but also it's pretty obvious once Srivatsa
has identified the root cause.
Second, we have a new freqdomain_cpus sysfs attribute for the
acpi-cpufreq driver to provide information previously available via
related_cpus. From Lan Tianyu.
Finally, we fix a number of issues, mostly related to the
CPUFREQ_POSTCHANGE notifier and cpufreq Kconfig options and clean
up some code. The majority of changes from Viresh Kumar with bits
from Jacob Shin, Heiko Stübner, Xiaoguang Chen, Ezequiel Garcia,
Arnd Bergmann, and Tang Yuantian.
- ACPICA update
A usual bunch of updates from the ACPICA upstream.
During the 3.4 cycle we introduced support for ACPI 5 extended
sleep registers, but they are only supposed to be used if the
HW-reduced mode bit is set in the FADT flags and the code attempted
to use them without checking that bit. That caused suspend/resume
regressions to happen on some systems. Fix from Lv Zheng causes
those registers to be used only if the HW-reduced mode bit is set.
Apart from this some other ACPICA bugs are fixed and code cleanups
are made by Bob Moore, Tomasz Nowicki, Lv Zheng, Chao Guan, and
Zhang Rui.
- cpuidle updates
New driver for Xilinx Zynq processors is added by Michal Simek.
Multidriver support simplification, addition of some missing
kerneldoc comments and Kconfig-related fixes come from Daniel
Lezcano.
- ACPI power management updates
Changes to make suspend/resume work correctly in Xen guests from
Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk, sparse warning fix from Fengguang Wu and
cleanups and fixes of the ACPI device power state selection
routine.
- ACPI documentation updates
Some previously missing pieces of ACPI documentation are added by
Lv Zheng and Aaron Lu (hopefully, that will help people to
uderstand how the ACPI subsystem works) and one outdated doc is
updated by Hanjun Guo.
- Assorted ACPI updates
We finally nailed down the IA-64 issue that was the reason for
reverting commit 9f29ab11dd ("ACPI / scan: do not match drivers
against objects having scan handlers"), so we can fix it and move
the ACPI scan handler check added to the ACPI video driver back to
the core.
A mechanism for adding CMOS RTC address space handlers is
introduced by Lan Tianyu to allow some EC-related breakage to be
fixed on some systems.
A spec-compliant implementation of acpi_os_get_timer() is added by
Mika Westerberg.
The evaluation of _STA is added to do_acpi_find_child() to avoid
situations in which a pointer to a disabled device object is
returned instead of an enabled one with the same _ADR value. From
Jeff Wu.
Intel BayTrail PCH (Platform Controller Hub) support is added to
the ACPI driver for Intel Low-Power Subsystems (LPSS) and that
driver is modified to work around a couple of known BIOS issues.
Changes from Mika Westerberg and Heikki Krogerus.
The EC driver is fixed by Vasiliy Kulikov to use get_user() and
put_user() instead of dereferencing user space pointers blindly.
Code cleanups are made by Bjorn Helgaas, Nicholas Mazzuca and Toshi
Kani.
- Assorted power management updates
The "runtime idle" helper routine is changed to take the return
values of the callbacks executed by it into account and to call
rpm_suspend() if they return 0, which allows us to reduce the
overall code bloat a bit (by dropping some code that's not
necessary any more after that modification).
The runtime PM documentation is updated by Alan Stern (to reflect
the "runtime idle" behavior change).
New trace points for PM QoS are added by Sahara
(<keun-o.park@windriver.com>).
PM QoS documentation is updated by Lan Tianyu.
Code cleanups are made and minor issues are addressed by Bernie
Thompson, Bjorn Helgaas, Julius Werner, and Shuah Khan.
- devfreq updates
New driver for the Exynos5-bus device from Abhilash Kesavan.
Minor cleanups, fixes and MAINTAINERS update from MyungJoo Ham,
Abhilash Kesavan, Paul Bolle, Rajagopal Venkat, and Wei Yongjun.
- OMAP power management updates
Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) SmartReflex voltage control driver

These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in
this branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all,
since they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part of
the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni, we can
now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable modules and
keep them separate from the platform code in drivers/pci/host. This has
already led to the discovery that three platforms (exynos, spear and imx)
are actually using an identical PCIe host controller and will be able
to share a driver once support for spear and imx is added.
Conflicts:
* asm/glue-proc.h has one CPU type getting added that conflicts
with another addition in 3.10-rc7
* Simple context changes in arch/arm/Makefile and arch/arm/Kconfig

Merge tag 'soc-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC specific changes from Arnd Bergmann:
"These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and
EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in this
branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all, since
they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part
of the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni,
we can now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable
modules and keep them separate from the platform code in
drivers/pci/host. This has already led to the discovery that three
platforms (exynos, spear and imx) are actually using an identical PCIe
host controller and will be able to share a driver once support for
spear and imx is added."

The Patch adds TPS659038 PMIC support in the palmas mfd driver.
The TPS659038 has almost the same registers as of the earlier
supported variants of PALMAS family such as the TWL6035.
The critical differences between TPS659038 and TWL6035 being:
1) TPS659038 has nothing related to battery charging and back up battery stuff.
2) TPS659038 does not have does not have SMPS10(Boost) step up convertor.
3) TPS659038 does not have Battery detection and anything related to battery.
4) SD card detection, Battery presence detection, Vibrator, USB OTG are missing
when compared to TWL6035.

The genirq IRQ wake method will default to failure if the irq_chip
does not provide a set_wake method. However, for TWL4030 sub-chip
IRQs, we want the wake enable to succeed even though we don't provide
a set_wake method. This allows sub-chip IRQs to still be flagged as
wakeup capable, and allow them to wakeup from suspend (or abort
suspend if they fire during suspend.)

The TSC part allows to specify the input lines. The IIO part assumes
that it usues always the last few, that means if IIO has adc-channels
set to 2 it will use channel 6 and 7. However it might make sense to use
only 6.
This patch changes the device property (which was introduced recently
and was never in an official release) in a way that the user can specify
which of the AIN lines should be used. In Addition to this, the name is
now AINx where x is the channel number i.e. for AIN6 we would have 6.
Prior this, it always started counting at 0 which is confusing. In
addition to this, it also checks for correct step number during reading
and does not rely on proper FIFO depth.

document which is used by the MFD and IIO part of the device.
This patch also renames steps_to_configure to coordinate_readouts
because the original name misleads the purpose of the variable.

Current code has hard coded value written to
step enable bits. Now the bits are updated based
on how many steps are needed to be configured got
from platform data.
The user needs to take care not to exceed
the count more than 16. While using ADC and TSC
one should take care to set this parameter correctly.
Sebastian added the common lock and moved the code, that manipulates the
steps, from into the mfd module.

The mfd driver creates platform data for the child devices and it is the
ti_tscadc_dev struct. This struct is copied for the two devices.
The copy of the structure makes a common lock in this structure a little
less usefull. Therefore the platform data is not a pointer to the
structure and the same structure is used.
While doing the change I noticed that the suspend/resume code assumes
the wrong pointer for ti_tscadc_dev and this has been fixed as well.

This patch adds support for SYSCON driver for CLPS711X targets.
At this time there are no users for this driver, but it is will
be used as start point to use in CLPS711X drivers and remove
<mach/xx> dependencies.

actually enabled through the MFD registration before.

layer instead.

There is no reason for ssbi to have its own top-level driver directory
when the only users of this interface are all MFD drivers. The only
mainline driver using it at the moment (PM8921) is marked broken and in
fact does not compile. I have verified that fixing the trivial build
breakage in pm8921 links in the new ssbi code just fine, but that
can be a separate patch.
