There are two tcp_filter hooks in tcp_ipv6 ingress path currently.
One is at tcp_v6_rcv and another is in tcp_v6_do_rcv. It seems the
tcp_filter() call inside tcp_v6_do_rcv is redundent and some packet
will be filtered twice in this situation. This will cause trouble
when using eBPF filters to account traffic data.

The ipvlan code already knows how to detect when a duplicate address is
about to be assigned to an ipvlan device. However, that failure is not
propogated outward and leads to a silent failure.
Introduce a validation step at ip address creation time and allow device
drivers to register to validate the incoming ip addresses. The ipvlan
code is the first consumer. If it detects an address in use, we can
return an error to the user before beginning to commit the new ifa in
the networking code.
This can be especially useful if it is necessary to provision many
ipvlans in containers. The provisioning software (or operator) can use
this to detect situations where an ip address is unexpectedly in use.

While discussing the possible merits of clang warning about unused initialized
functions, I found one function that was clearly meant to be called but
never actually is.
__ila_hash_secret_init() initializes the hash value for the ila locator,
apparently this is intended to prevent hash collision attacks, but this ends
up being a read-only zero constant since there is no caller. I could find
no indication of why it was never called, the earliest patch submission
for the module already was like this. If my interpretation is right, we
certainly want to backport the patch to stable kernels as well.
I considered adding it to the ila_xlat_init callback, but for best effect
the random data is read as late as possible, just before it is first used.
The underlying net_get_random_once() is already highly optimized to avoid
overhead when called frequently.

DRAM supply shortage and poor memory pressure tracking in TCP
stack makes any change in SO_SNDBUF/SO_RCVBUF (or equivalent autotuning
limits) and tcp_mem[] quite hazardous.
TCPMemoryPressures SNMP counter is an indication of tcp_mem sysctl
limits being hit, but only tracking number of transitions.
If TCP stack behavior under stress was perfect :
1) It would maintain memory usage close to the limit.
2) Memory pressure state would be entered for short times.
We certainly prefer 100 events lasting 10ms compared to one event
lasting 200 seconds.
This patch adds a new SNMP counter tracking cumulative duration of
memory pressure events, given in ms units.

Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using
netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources
can occur in one of two different places.
Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor().
The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon
whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it
is safe to perform the freeing.
netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the
NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast
address lists are flushed.
netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the
netdev references all go away.
Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor()
almost universally does also a free_netdev().
This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice().
Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing
of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice()
fails.
If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside
of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But
it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor().
This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and
then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same.
However, this means that the resources that would normally be released
by netdev->destructor() will not be.
Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by
invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice()
fails.
Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks.
Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what
private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether
the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev().
netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private
resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for
free_netdev().
netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether
free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice().
Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after
ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit()
and netdev->priv_destructor().
And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke
netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev().

This fix addresses two problems in the way the DSCP field is formulated
on the encapsulating header of IPv6 tunnels.
Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195661
1) The IPv6 tunneling code was manipulating the DSCP field of the
encapsulating packet using the 32b flowlabel. Since the flowlabel is
only the lower 20b it was incorrect to assume that the upper 12b
containing the DSCP and ECN fields would remain intact when formulating
the encapsulating header. This fix handles the 'inherit' and
'fixed-value' DSCP cases explicitly using the extant dsfield u8 variable.
2) The use of INET_ECN_encapsulate(0, dsfield) in ip6_tnl_xmit was
incorrect and resulted in the DSCP value always being set to 0.
Commit 90427ef5d2 ("ipv6: fix flow labels when the traffic class
is non-0") caused the regression by masking out the flowlabel
which exposed the incorrect handling of the DSCP portion of the
flowlabel in ip6_tunnel and ip6_gre.

TCP Timestamps option is defined in RFC 7323
Traditionally on linux, it has been tied to the internal
'jiffies' variable, because it had been a cheap and good enough
generator.
For TCP flows on the Internet, 1 ms resolution would be much better
than 4ms or 10ms (HZ=250 or HZ=100 respectively)
For TCP flows in the DC, Google has used usec resolution for more
than two years with great success [1]
Receive size autotuning (DRS) is indeed more precise and converges
faster to optimal window size.
This patch converts tp->tcp_mstamp to a plain u64 value storing
a 1 usec TCP clock.
This choice will allow us to upstream the 1 usec TS option as
discussed in IETF 97.

under udp flood the sk_receive_queue spinlock is heavily contended.
This patch try to reduce the contention on such lock adding a
second receive queue to the udp sockets; recvmsg() looks first
in such queue and, only if empty, tries to fetch the data from
sk_receive_queue. The latter is spliced into the newly added
queue every time the receive path has to acquire the
sk_receive_queue lock.
The accounting of forward allocated memory is still protected with
the sk_receive_queue lock, so udp_rmem_release() needs to acquire
both locks when the forward deficit is flushed.
On specific scenarios we can end up acquiring and releasing the
sk_receive_queue lock multiple times; that will be covered by
the next patch

alloc_ila_locks seemed to c&p from alloc_bucket_locks allocation pattern
which is quite unusual. The default allocation size is 320 *
sizeof(spinlock_t) which is sub page unless lockdep is enabled when the
performance benefit is really questionable and not worth the subtle code
IMHO. Also note that the context when we call ila_init_net (modprobe or
a task creating a net namespace) has to be properly configured.
Let's just simplify the code and use kvmalloc helper which is a
transparent way to use kmalloc with vmalloc fallback.

For each netns (except init_net), we initialize its null entry
in 3 places:
1) The template itself, as we use kmemdup()
2) Code around dst_init_metrics() in ip6_route_net_init()
3) ip6_route_dev_notify(), which is supposed to initialize it after
loopback registers
Unfortunately the last one still happens in a wrong order because
we expect to initialize net->ipv6.ip6_null_entry->rt6i_idev to
net->loopback_dev's idev, thus we have to do that after we add
idev to loopback. However, this notifier has priority == 0 same as
ipv6_dev_notf, and ipv6_dev_notf is registered after
ip6_route_dev_notifier so it is called actually after
ip6_route_dev_notifier. This is similar to commit 2f460933f5
("ipv6: initialize route null entry in addrconf_init()") which
fixes init_net.
Fix it by picking a smaller priority for ip6_route_dev_notifier.
Also, we have to release the refcnt accordingly when unregistering
loopback_dev because device exit functions are called before subsys
exit functions.

Whole point of randomization was to hide server uptime, but an attacker
can simply start a syn flood and TCP generates 'old style' timestamps,
directly revealing server jiffies value.
Also, TSval sent by the server to a particular remote address vary
depending on syncookies being sent or not, potentially triggering PAWS
drops for innocent clients.
Lets implement proper randomization, including for SYNcookies.
Also we do not need to export sysctl_tcp_timestamps, since it is not
used from a module.
In v2, I added Florian feedback and contribution, adding tsoff to
tcp_get_cookie_sock().
v3 removed one unused variable in tcp_v4_connect() as Florian spotted.

Andrey reported a crash on init_net.ipv6.ip6_null_entry->rt6i_idev
since it is always NULL.
This is clearly wrong, we have code to initialize it to loopback_dev,
unfortunately the order is still not correct.
loopback_dev is registered very early during boot, we lose a chance
to re-initialize it in notifier. addrconf_init() is called after
ip6_route_init(), which means we have no chance to correct it.
Fix it by moving this initialization explicitly after
ipv6_add_dev(init_net.loopback_dev) in addrconf_init().

Netfilter/IPVS/OVS fixes for net
The following patchset contains a rather large batch of Netfilter, IPVS
and OVS fixes for your net tree. This includes fixes for ctnetlink, the
userspace conntrack helper infrastructure, conntrack OVS support,
ebtables DNAT target, several leaks in error path among other. More
specifically, they are:
1) Fix reference count leak in the CT target error path, from Gao Feng.
2) Remove conntrack entry clashing with a matching expectation, patch
from Jarno Rajahalme.
3) Fix bogus EEXIST when registering two different userspace helpers,
from Liping Zhang.
4) Don't leak dummy elements in the new bitmap set type in nf_tables,
from Liping Zhang.
5) Get rid of module autoload from conntrack update path in ctnetlink,
we don't need autoload at this late stage and it is happening with
rcu read lock held which is not good. From Liping Zhang.
6) Fix deadlock due to double-acquire of the expect_lock from conntrack
update path, this fixes a bug that was introduced when the central
spinlock got removed. Again from Liping Zhang.
7) Safe ct->status update from ctnetlink path, from Liping. The expect_lock
protection that was selected when the central spinlock was removed was
not really protecting anything at all.
8) Protect sequence adjustment under ct->lock.
9) Missing socket match with IPv6, from Peter Tirsek.
10) Adjust skb->pkt_type of DNAT'ed frames from ebtables, from
Linus Luessing.
11) Don't give up on evaluating the expression on new entries added via
dynset expression in nf_tables, from Liping Zhang.
12) Use skb_checksum() when mangling icmpv6 in IPv6 NAT as this deals
with non-linear skbuffs.
13) Don't allow IPv6 service in IPVS if no IPv6 support is available,
from Paolo Abeni.
14) Missing mutex release in error path of xt_find_table_lock(), from
Dan Carpenter.
15) Update maintainers files, Netfilter section. Add Florian to the
file, refer to nftables.org and change project status from Supported
to Maintained.
16) Bail out on mismatching extensions in element updates in nf_tables.

Andrey's reproducer program runs in a very tight loop, calling
'unshare -n' and then spawning 2 sets of 14 threads running random ioctl
calls. The relevant networking sequence:
1. New network namespace created via unshare -n
- ip6tnl0 device is created in down state
2. address added to ip6tnl0
- equivalent to ip -6 addr add dev ip6tnl0 fd00::bb/1
- DAD is started on the address and when it completes the host
route is inserted into the FIB
3. ip6tnl0 is brought up
- the new fixup_permanent_addr function restarts DAD on the address
4. exit namespace
- teardown / cleanup sequence starts
- once in a blue moon, lo teardown appears to happen BEFORE teardown
of ip6tunl0
+ down on 'lo' removes the host route from the FIB since the dst->dev
for the route is loobback
+ host route added to rcu callback list
* rcu callback has not run yet, so rt is NOT on the gc list so it has
NOT been marked obsolete
5. in parallel to 4. worker_thread runs addrconf_dad_completed
- DAD on the address on ip6tnl0 completes
- calls ipv6_ifa_notify which inserts the host route
All of that happens very quickly. The result is that a host route that
has been deleted from the IPv6 FIB and added to the RCU list is re-inserted
into the FIB.
The exit namespace eventually gets to cleaning up ip6tnl0 which removes the
host route from the FIB again, calls the rcu function for cleanup -- and
triggers the double rcu trace.
The root cause is duplicate DAD on the address -- steps 2 and 3. Arguably,
DAD should not be started in step 2. The interface is in the down state,
so it can not really send out requests for the address which makes starting
DAD pointless.
Since the second DAD was introduced by a recent change, seems appropriate
to use it for the Fixes tag and have the fixup function only start DAD for
addresses in the PREDAD state which occurs in addrconf_ifdown if the
address is retained.
Big thanks to Andrey for isolating a reliable reproducer for this problem.

The IPv6 tunneling code tries to insert IPV6_TLV_TNL_ENCAP_LIMIT and
IPV6_TLV_PADN options when an encapsulation limit is defined (the
default is a limit of 4). An MTU adjustment is done to account for
these options as well. However, the options are never present in the
generated packets.
The issue appears to be a subtlety between IPV6_DSTOPTS and
IPV6_RTHDRDSTOPTS defined in RFC 3542. When the IPIP tunnel driver was
written, the encap limit options were included as IPV6_RTHDRDSTOPTS in
dst0opt of struct ipv6_txoptions. Later, ipv6_push_nfrags_opts was
(correctly) updated to require IPV6_RTHDR options when IPV6_RTHDRDSTOPTS
are to be used. This caused the options to no longer be included in v6
encapsulated packets.
The fix is to use IPV6_DSTOPTS (in dst1opt of struct ipv6_txoptions)
instead. IPV6_DSTOPTS do not have the additional IPV6_RTHDR requirement.

In situations where an skb is paged, the transport header pointer and
tail pointer can be the same because the skb contents are in frags.
This results in ioctl(SIOCINQ/FIONREAD) incorrectly returning a
length of 0 when the length to receive is actually greater than zero.
skb->len is already correctly set in ip6_input_finish() with

Andrey reported a out-of-bound access in ip6_tnl_xmit(), this
is because we use an ipv4 dst in ip6_tnl_xmit() and cast an IPv4
neigh key as an IPv6 address:
neigh = dst_neigh_lookup(skb_dst(skb),
&ipv6_hdr(skb)->daddr);
if (!neigh)
goto tx_err_link_failure;
addr6 = (struct in6_addr *)&neigh->primary_key; // <=== HERE
addr_type = ipv6_addr_type(addr6);
if (addr_type == IPV6_ADDR_ANY)
addr6 = &ipv6_hdr(skb)->daddr;
memcpy(&fl6->daddr, addr6, sizeof(fl6->daddr));
Also the network header of the skb at this point should be still IPv4
for 4in6 tunnels, we shold not just use it as IPv6 header.
This patch fixes it by checking if skb->protocol is ETH_P_IPV6: if it
is, we are safe to do the nexthop lookup using skb_dst() and
ipv6_hdr(skb)->daddr; if not (aka IPv4), we have no clue about which
dest address we can pick here, we have to rely on callers to fill it
from tunnel config, so just fall to ip6_route_output() to make the
decision.

Current SYNPROXY codes return NF_DROP during normal TCP handshaking,
it is not friendly to caller. Because the nf_hook_slow would treat
the NF_DROP as an error, and return -EPERM.
As a result, it may cause the top caller think it meets one error.
For example, the following codes are from cfv_rx_poll()
err = netif_receive_skb(skb);
if (unlikely(err)) {
++cfv->ndev->stats.rx_dropped;
} else {
++cfv->ndev->stats.rx_packets;
cfv->ndev->stats.rx_bytes += skb_len;
}
When SYNPROXY returns NF_DROP, then netif_receive_skb returns -EPERM.
As a result, the cfv driver would treat it as an error, and increase
the rx_dropped counter.
So use NF_STOLEN instead of NF_DROP now because there is no error
happened indeed, and free the skb directly.

Taking down the loopback device wreaks havoc on IPv6 routing. By
extension, taking down a VRF device wreaks havoc on its table.
Dmitry and Andrey both reported heap out-of-bounds reports in the IPv6
FIB code while running syzkaller fuzzer. The root cause is a dead dst
that is on the garbage list gets reinserted into the IPv6 FIB. While on
the gc (or perhaps when it gets added to the gc list) the dst->next is
set to an IPv4 dst. A subsequent walk of the ipv6 tables causes the
out-of-bounds access.
Andrey's reproducer was the key to getting to the bottom of this.
With IPv6, host routes for an address have the dst->dev set to the
loopback device. When the 'lo' device is taken down, rt6_ifdown initiates
a walk of the fib evicting routes with the 'lo' device which means all
host routes are removed. That process moves the dst which is attached to
an inet6_ifaddr to the gc list and marks it as dead.
The recent change to keep global IPv6 addresses added a new function,
fixup_permanent_addr, that is called on admin up. That function restarts
dad for an inet6_ifaddr and when it completes the host route attached
to it is inserted into the fib. Since the route was marked dead and
moved to the gc list, re-inserting the route causes the reported
out-of-bounds accesses. If the device with the address is taken down
or the address is removed, the WARN_ON in fib6_del is triggered.
All of those faults are fixed by regenerating the host route if the
existing one has been moved to the gc list, something that can be
determined by checking if the rt6i_ref counter is 0.

Andrey's syzkaller program passes rtmsg.rtmsg_flags with the RTF_PCPU bit
set. Flags passed to the kernel are blindly copied to the allocated
rt6_info by ip6_route_info_create making a newly inserted route appear
as though it is a per-cpu route. ip6_rt_cache_alloc sees the flag set
and expects rt->dst.from to be set - which it is not since it is not
really a per-cpu copy. The subsequent call to __ip6_dst_alloc then
generates the fault.
Fix by checking for the flag and failing with EINVAL.

This feature allows the administrator to set an fwmark for
packets traversing a tunnel. This allows the use of independent
routing tables for tunneled packets without the use of iptables.
There is no concept of per-packet routing decisions through IPv4
tunnels, so this implementation does not need to work with
per-packet route lookups as the v6 implementation may
(with IP6_TNL_F_USE_ORIG_FWMARK).
Further, since the v4 tunnel ioctls share datastructures
(which can not be trivially modified) with the kernel's internal
tunnel configuration structures, the mark attribute must be stored
in the tunnel structure itself and passed as a parameter when
creating or changing tunnel attributes.

If esp*_offload module is loaded, outbound packets take the
GSO code path, being encapsulated at layer 3, but encrypted
in layer 2. validate_xmit_xfrm calls esp*_xmit for that.
esp*_xmit was wrongfully detecting these packets as going
through hardware crypto offload, while in fact they should
be encrypted in software, causing plaintext leakage to

A group of Linux kernel hackers reported chasing a bug that resulted
from their assumption that SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU provided an existence
guarantee, that is, that no block from such a slab would be reallocated
during an RCU read-side critical section. Of course, that is not the
case. Instead, SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU only prevents freeing of an entire
slab of blocks.
However, there is a phrase for this, namely "type safety". This commit
therefore renames SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU in order
to avoid future instances of this sort of confusion.

Syzkaller reported a use-after-free in ip_recv_error at line
info->ipi_ifindex = skb->dev->ifindex;
This function is called on dequeue from the error queue, at which
point the device pointer may no longer be valid.
Save ifindex on enqueue in __skb_complete_tx_timestamp, when the
pointer is valid or NULL. Store it in temporary storage skb->cb.
It is safe to reference skb->dev here, as called from device drivers
or dev_queue_xmit. The exception is when called from tcp_ack_tstamp;
in that case it is NULL and ifindex is set to 0 (invalid).
Do not return a pktinfo cmsg if ifindex is 0. This maintains the
current behavior of not returning a cmsg if skb->dev was NULL.
On dequeue, the ipv4 path will cast from sock_exterr_skb to
in_pktinfo. Both have ifindex as their first element, so no explicit
conversion is needed. This is by design, introduced in commit
0b922b7a82 ("net: original ingress device index in PKTINFO"). For
ipv6 ip6_datagram_support_cmsg converts to in6_pktinfo.

resurrect an old patch from Pablo Neira to remove the untracked objects.
Currently, there are four possible states of an skb wrt. conntrack.
1. No conntrack attached, ct is NULL.
2. Normal (kmem cache allocated) ct attached.
3. a template (kmalloc'd), not in any hash tables at any point in time
4. the 'untracked' conntrack, a percpu nf_conn object, tagged via
IPS_UNTRACKED_BIT in ct->status.
Untracked is supposed to be identical to case 1. It exists only
so users can check
-m conntrack --ctstate UNTRACKED vs.
-m conntrack --ctstate INVALID
e.g. attempts to set connmark on INVALID or UNTRACKED conntracks is
supposed to be a no-op.
Thus currently we need to check
ct == NULL || nf_ct_is_untracked(ct)
in a lot of places in order to avoid altering untracked objects.
The other consequence of the percpu untracked object is that all
-j NOTRACK (and, later, kfree_skb of such skbs) result in an atomic op
(inc/dec the untracked conntracks refcount).
This adds a new kernel-private ctinfo state, IP_CT_UNTRACKED, to
make the distinction instead.
The (few) places that care about packet invalid (ct is NULL) vs.
packet untracked now need to test ct == NULL vs. ctinfo == IP_CT_UNTRACKED,
but all other places can omit the nf_ct_is_untracked() check.

Both esp4 and esp6 used to assume that the SKB payload is encrypted
and therefore the inner_network and inner_transport offsets are
not relevant.
When doing crypto offload in the NIC, this is no longer the case
and the NIC driver needs these offsets so it can do TX TCP checksum
offloading.
This patch sets the inner_network and inner_transport members of
the SKB, as well as encapsulation, to reflect the actual positions
of these headers, and removes them only once encryption is done

To insert or encapsulate a packet with an SRH, we need a large enough skb
headroom. Currently, we are using pskb_expand_head to inconditionally increase
the size of the headroom by the amount needed by the SRH (and IPv6 header).
If this reallocation is performed by another CPU than the one that initially
allocated the skb, then when the initial CPU kfree the skb, it will enter the
__slab_free slowpath, impacting performances.
This patch replaces pskb_expand_head with skb_cow_head, that will reallocate the
skb head only if the headroom is not large enough.

It would be preferrable to disable UDP early demux for those systems

By disabling UDP demux, we see these slight gains on an ARM64 system-
782 -> 788Mbps unconnected single stream UDPv4
633 -> 654Mbps unconnected UDPv4 different sources
The performance impact can change based on CPU architecure and cache

This commit adds a new sysctl accept_ra_rt_info_min_plen that
defines the minimum acceptable prefix length of Route Information
Options. The new sysctl is intended to be used together with
accept_ra_rt_info_max_plen to configure a range of acceptable
prefix lengths. It is useful to prevent misconfigurations from
unintentionally blackholing too much of the IPv6 address space
(e.g., home routers announcing RIOs for fc00::/7, which is
incorrect).

The tcp_tw_recycle was already broken for connections
behind NAT, since the per-destination timestamp is not
monotonically increasing for multiple machines behind
a single destination address.
After the randomization of TCP timestamp offsets
in commit 8a5bd45f6616 (tcp: randomize tcp timestamp offsets
for each connection), the tcp_tw_recycle is broken for all
types of connections for the same reason: the timestamps
received from a single machine is not monotonically increasing,
anymore.
Remove tcp_tw_recycle, since it is not functional. Also, remove
the PAWSPassive SNMP counter since it is only used for
tcp_tw_recycle, and simplify tcp_v4_route_req and tcp_v6_route_req
since the strict argument is only set when tcp_tw_recycle is

Commit 8a5bd45f6616 (tcp: randomize tcp timestamp offsets for each connection)
randomizes TCP timestamps per connection. After this commit,
there is no guarantee that the timestamps received from the
same destination are monotonically increasing. As a result,
the per-destination timestamp cache in TCP metrics (i.e., tcpm_ts
in struct tcp_metrics_block) is broken and cannot be relied upon.
Remove the per-destination timestamp cache and all related code
paths.
Note that this cache was already broken for caching timestamps of

2) SCTP protocol tracker assumes that ICMP error messages contain the
checksum field, what results in packet drops. From Ying Xue.
3) Fix inconsistent handling of AH traffic from nf_tables.

nf_tables due to incorrect big endian handling too. Both patches
from Liping Zhang.
5) Bridge netfilter doesn't honor maximum fragment size field, cap to
largest fragment seen. From Florian Westphal.
6) Fake conntrack entry needs to be aligned to 8 bytes since the 3 LSB
bits are now used to store the ctinfo. From Steven Rostedt.

field in the nft_set_iter structure, not required anymore after
fixing up element comments.

Of course it may happen with other NIC drivers as well.
It's found the freed dst_entry here:
224 static bool tcp_in_quickack_mode(struct sock *sk)↩
225 {↩
226 ▹ const struct inet_connection_sock *icsk = inet_csk(sk);↩
227 ▹ const struct dst_entry *dst = __sk_dst_get(sk);↩
228 ↩

230 ▹ ▹ (icsk->icsk_ack.quick && !icsk->icsk_ack.pingpong);↩
231 }↩
But there are other backtraces attributed to the same freed dst_entry in
netfilter code as well.
All the vmcores showed 2 significant clues:
- Remote hosts behind the default gateway had always been redirected to a
different gateway. A rtable/dst_entry will be added for that host. Making
more dst_entrys with lower reference counts. Making this more probable.
- All vmcores showed a postitive LockDroppedIcmps value, e.g:
LockDroppedIcmps 267
A closer look at the tcp_v4_err() handler revealed that do_redirect() will run
regardless of whether user space has the socket locked. This can result in a
race condition where the same dst_entry cached in sk->sk_dst_entry can be
decremented twice for the same socket via:
do_redirect()->__sk_dst_check()-> dst_release().
Which leads to the dst_entry being prematurely freed with another socket
pointing to it via sk->sk_dst_cache and a subsequent crash.
To fix this skip do_redirect() if usespace has the socket locked. Instead let
the redirect take place later when user space does not have the socket
locked.
The dccp/IPv6 code is very similar in this respect, so fixing it there too.
As Eric Garver pointed out the following commit now invalidates routes. Which
can set the dst->obsolete flag so that ipv4_dst_check() returns null and
triggers the dst_release().

ip6_fragment, in case skb has a fraglist, checks if the
skb is cloned. If it is, it will move to the 'slow path' and allocates
new skbs for each fragment.
However, right before entering the slowpath loop, it updates the
nexthdr value of the last ipv6 extension header to NEXTHDR_FRAGMENT,
to account for the fragment header that will be inserted in the new
ipv6-fragment skbs.
In case original skb is cloned this munges nexthdr value of another
skb. Avoid this by doing the nexthdr update for each of the new fragment
skbs separately.
This was observed with tcpdump on a bridge device where netfilter ipv6
reassembly is active: tcpdump shows malformed fragment headers as
the l4 header (icmpv6, tcp, etc). is decoded as a fragment header.

Commit 2759647247 ("ipv6: fix ECMP route replacement") introduced a
loop that removes all siblings of an ECMP route that is being
replaced. However, this loop doesn't stop when it has replaced
siblings, and keeps removing other routes with a higher metric.
We also end up triggering the WARN_ON after the loop, because after
this nsiblings < 0.
Instead, stop the loop when we have taken care of all routes with the
same metric as the route being replaced.

Currently, there are two different methods to store an u16 integer to
the u32 data register. For example:
u32 *dest = ®s->data[priv->dreg];
1. *dest = 0; *(u16 *) dest = val_u16;
2. *dest = val_u16;
For method 1, the u16 value will be stored like this, either in
big-endian or little-endian system:
0 15 31
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
| Value | 0 |
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
For method 2, in little-endian system, the u16 value will be the same
as listed above. But in big-endian system, the u16 value will be stored
like this:
0 15 31
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
| 0 | Value |
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
So later we use "memcmp(®s->data[priv->sreg], data, 2);" to do
compare in nft_cmp, nft_lookup expr ..., method 2 will get the wrong
result in big-endian system, as 0~15 bits will always be zero.
For the similar reason, when loading an u16 value from the u32 data
register, we should use "*(u16 *) sreg;" instead of "(u16)*sreg;",
the 2nd method will get the wrong value in the big-endian system.
So introduce some wrapper functions to store/load an u8 or u16
integer to/from the u32 data register, and use them in the right
place.

While running a single stream UDPv6 test, we observed that amount
of CPU spent in NET_RX softirq was much greater than UDPv4 for an
equivalent receive rate. The test here was run on an ARM64 based
Android system. On further analysis with perf, we found that UDPv6
was spending significant time in the statistics netfilter targets
which did socket lookup per packet. These statistics rules perform
a lookup when there is no socket associated with the skb. Since
there are multiple instances of these rules based on UID, there
will be equal number of lookups per skb.
By introducing early demux for UDPv6, we avoid the redundant lookups.
This also helped to improve the performance (800Mbps -> 870Mbps) on a
CPU limited system in a single stream UDPv6 receive test with 1450
byte sized datagrams using iperf.

The gso code of several tunnels type (gre and udp tunnels)
takes for granted that the skb->inner_protocol is properly
initialized and drops the packet elsewhere.
On the forwarding path no one is initializing such field,
so gro encapsulated packets are dropped on forward.
Since commit 3872035241 ("gre: Use inner_proto to obtain

encapsulated packets use gre as the tunneling protocol.
The issue happens also with vxlan and geneve tunnels since

forwarding host's ingress nic has h/w offload for such tunnel
and a vxlan/geneve device is configured on top of it, regardless

Commit 5e1859fbcc ("ipv4: ipmr: various fixes and cleanups") fixed
the issue for ipv4 ipmr:
ip_mroute_setsockopt() & ip_mroute_getsockopt() should not
access/set raw_sk(sk)->ipmr_table before making sure the socket
is a raw socket, and protocol is IGMP
The same fix should be done for ipv6 ipmr as well.
This patch can fix the panic caused by overwriting the same offset
as ipmr_table as in raw_sk(sk) when accessing other type's socket
by ip_mroute_setsockopt().

This patch adds a check on the type of the source address for the case
where the destination address is in6addr_any. If the source is an
IPv4-mapped IPv6 source address, the destination is changed to
::ffff:127.0.0.1, and otherwise the destination is changed to ::1. This
is done in three locations to handle UDP calls to either connect() or
sendmsg() and TCP calls to connect(). Note that udpv6_sendmsg() delays
handling an in6addr_any destination until very late, so the patch only
needs to handle the case where the source is an IPv4-mapped IPv6

Under some circumstances it is possible that no new temporary addresses
will be generated.
For instance, addrconf_prefix_rcv_add_addr() indirectly calls
ipv6_create_tempaddr(), which creates a tentative temporary address and
starts dad. Next, addrconf_prefix_rcv_add_addr() indirectly calls
addrconf_verify_rtnl(). Now, assume that the previously created temporary
address has the least preferred lifetime among all existing addresses and
is still tentative (that is, dad is still running). Hence, the next run of
addrconf_verify_rtnl() is performed when the preferred lifetime of the
temporary address ends. If dad succeeds before the next run, the temporary
address becomes deprecated during the next run, but no new temporary
address is generated.
In order to fix this, schedule the next addrconf_verify_rtnl() run slightly
before the temporary address becomes deprecated, if dad succeeded.

When for instance a mobile Linux device roams from one access point to
another with both APs sharing the same broadcast domain and a
multicast snooping switch in between:
1) (c) <~~~> (AP1) <--[SSW]--> (AP2)
2) (AP1) <--[SSW]--> (AP2) <~~~> (c)
Then currently IPv6 multicast packets will get lost for (c) until an
MLD Querier sends its next query message. The packet loss occurs
because upon roaming the Linux host so far stayed silent regarding
MLD and the snooping switch will therefore be unaware of the
multicast topology change for a while.
This patch fixes this by always resending MLD reports when an interface

If an entire multipath route is deleted using prefix and len (without any
nexthops), send a single RTM_DELROUTE notification with the full route
using RTA_MULTIPATH. This is done by generating the skb before the route
delete when all of the sibling routes are still present but sending it
after the route has been removed from the FIB. The skip_notify flag
is used to tell the lower fib code not to send notifications for the
individual nexthop routes.
If a route is deleted using RTA_MULTIPATH for any nexthops or a single
nexthop entry is deleted, then the nexthops are deleted one at a time with
notifications sent as each hop is deleted. This is necessary given that
IPv6 allows individual hops within a route to be deleted.

Change ip6_route_multipath_add to send one notifciation with the full
route encoded with RTA_MULTIPATH instead of a series of individual routes.
This is done by adding a skip_notify flag to the nl_info struct. The
flag is used to skip sending of the notification in the fib code that
actually inserts the route. Once the full route has been added, a
notification is generated with all nexthops.
ip6_route_multipath_add handles 3 use cases: new routes, route replace,
and route append. The multipath notification generated needs to be
consistent with the order of the nexthops and it should be consistent
with the order in a FIB dump which means the route with the first nexthop
needs to be used as the route reference. For the first 2 cases (new and
replace), a reference to the route used to send the notification is
obtained by saving the first route added. For the append case, the last
route added is used to loop back to its first sibling route which is
the first nexthop in the multipath route.

IPv6 returns multipath routes as a series of individual routes making
their display and handling by userspace different and more complicated
than IPv4, putting the burden on the user to see that a route is part of
a multipath route and internally creating a multipath route if desired
(e.g., libnl does this as of commit 29b71371e764). This patch addresses
this difference, allowing multipath routes to be returned using the
RTA_MULTIPATH attribute.
The end result is that IPv6 multipath routes can be treated and displayed
in a format similar to IPv4:
$ ip -6 ro ls vrf red
2001:db8:1::/120 dev eth1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:2::/120 dev eth2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:200::/120 metric 1024
nexthop via 2001:db8:1::2 dev eth1 weight 1
nexthop via 2001:db8:2::2 dev eth2 weight 1
Signed-off-by: David Ahern <dsa@cumulusnetworks.com>
Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
IPv4 allows multipath routes to be deleted using just the prefix and
length. For example:
$ ip ro ls vrf red
unreachable default metric 8192
1.1.1.0/24
nexthop via 10.100.1.254 dev eth1 weight 1
nexthop via 10.11.200.2 dev eth11.200 weight 1
10.11.200.0/24 dev eth11.200 proto kernel scope link src 10.11.200.3
10.100.1.0/24 dev eth1 proto kernel scope link src 10.100.1.3
$ ip ro del 1.1.1.0/24 vrf red
$ ip ro ls vrf red
unreachable default metric 8192
10.11.200.0/24 dev eth11.200 proto kernel scope link src 10.11.200.3
10.100.1.0/24 dev eth1 proto kernel scope link src 10.100.1.3
The same notation does not work with IPv6 because of how multipath routes
are implemented for IPv6. For IPv6 only the first nexthop of a multipath
route is deleted if the request contains only a prefix and length. This
leads to unnecessary complexity in userspace dealing with IPv6 multipath
routes.
This patch allows all nexthops to be deleted without specifying each one
in the delete request. Internally, this is done by walking the sibling
list of the route matching the specifications given (prefix, length,
metric, protocol, etc).
$ ip -6 ro ls vrf red
2001:db8:1::/120 dev eth1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:2::/120 dev eth2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:200::/120 via 2001:db8:1::2 dev eth1 metric 1024 pref medium
2001:db8:200::/120 via 2001:db8:2::2 dev eth2 metric 1024 pref medium
...
$ ip -6 ro del vrf red 2001:db8:200::/120
$ ip -6 ro ls vrf red
2001:db8:1::/120 dev eth1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:2::/120 dev eth2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
...
Because IPv6 allows individual nexthops to be deleted without deleting
the entire route, the ip6_route_multipath_del and non-multipath code
path (ip6_route_del) have to be discriminated so that all nexthops are
only deleted for the latter case. This is done by making the existing
fc_type in fib6_config a u16 and then adding a new u16 field with
fc_delete_all_nh as the first bit.

Netfilter updates for net-next
The following patchset contains Netfilter updates for your net-next
tree, they are:
1) Stash ctinfo 3-bit field into pointer to nf_conntrack object from
sk_buff so we only access one single cacheline in the conntrack
hotpath. Patchset from Florian Westphal.
2) Don't leak pointer to internal structures when exporting x_tables
ruleset back to userspace, from Willem DeBruijn. This includes new
helper functions to copy data to userspace such as xt_data_to_user()
as well as conversions of our ip_tables, ip6_tables and arp_tables
clients to use it. Not surprinsingly, ebtables requires an ad-hoc
update. There is also a new field in x_tables extensions to indicate
the amount of bytes that we copy to userspace.
3) Add nf_log_all_netns sysctl: This new knob allows you to enable
logging via nf_log infrastructure for all existing netnamespaces.
Given the effort to provide pernet syslog has been discontinued,
let's provide a way to restore logging using netfilter kernel logging
facilities in trusted environments. Patch from Michal Kubecek.
4) Validate SCTP checksum from conntrack helper, from Davide Caratti.
5) Merge UDPlite conntrack and NAT helpers into UDP, this was mostly
a copy&paste from the original helper, from Florian Westphal.
6) Reset netfilter state when duplicating packets, also from Florian.
7) Remove unnecessary check for broadcast in IPv6 in pkttype match and
nft_meta, from Liping Zhang.
8) Add missing code to deal with loopback packets from nft_meta when
used by the netdev family, also from Liping.
9) Several cleanups on nf_tables, one to remove unnecessary check from
the netlink control plane path to add table, set and stateful objects
and code consolidation when unregister chain hooks, from Gao Feng.
10) Fix harmless reference counter underflow in IPVS that, however,
results in problems with the introduction of the new refcount_t
type, from David Windsor.
11) Enable LIBCRC32C from nf_ct_sctp instead of nf_nat_sctp,
from Davide Caratti.
12) Missing documentation on nf_tables uapi header, from Liping Zhang.
13) Use rb_entry() helper in xt_connlimit, from Geliang Tang.

$ ip -6 ro ls table local
local ::1 dev lo proto none metric 0 pref medium
local 2100:3:: dev lo proto none metric 0 pref medium
local 2100:3::4 dev lo proto none metric 0 pref medium
local fe80:: dev lo proto none metric 0 pref medium
...
Set rt6i_protocol to RTPROT_KERNEL for consistency with IPv4. Now routes
show up with proto "kernel":
$ ip -6 ro ls table local
local ::1 dev lo proto kernel metric 0 pref medium
local 2100:3:: dev lo proto kernel metric 0 pref medium
local 2100:3::4 dev lo proto kernel metric 0 pref medium
local fe80:: dev lo proto kernel metric 0 pref medium

In the latest version of the IPv6 Segment Routing IETF draft [1] the
cleanup flag is removed and the flags field length is shrunk from 16 bits
to 8 bits. As a consequence, the input of the HMAC computation is modified
in a non-backward compatible way by covering the whole octet of flags
instead of only the cleanup bit. As such, if an implementation compatible
with the latest draft computes the HMAC of an SRH who has other flags set
to 1, then the HMAC result would differ from the current implementation.
This patch carries those modifications to prevent conflict with other
implementations of IPv6 SR.

Commit 69b34fb996 ("netfilter: xt_LOG: add net namespace support for
xt_LOG") disabled logging packets using the LOG target from non-init
namespaces. The motivation was to prevent containers from flooding
kernel log of the host. The plan was to keep it that way until syslog
namespace implementation allows containers to log in a safe way.
However, the work on syslog namespace seems to have hit a dead end
somewhere in 2013 and there are users who want to use xt_LOG in all
network namespaces. This patch allows to do so by setting
/proc/sys/net/netfilter/nf_log_all_netns
to a nonzero value. This sysctl is only accessible from init_net so that
one cannot switch the behaviour from inside a container.

After this change conntrack operations (lookup, creation, matching from
ruleset) only access one instead of two sk_buff cache lines.
This works for normal conntracks because those are allocated from a slab
that guarantees hw cacheline or 8byte alignment (whatever is larger)
so the 3 bits needed for ctinfo won't overlap with nf_conn addresses.
Template allocation now does manual address alignment (see previous change)
on arches that don't have sufficent kmalloc min alignment.
Some spots intentionally use skb->_nfct instead of skb_nfct() helpers,
this is to avoid undoing the skb_nfct() use when we remove untracked
conntrack object in the future.

Packets arriving in a VRF currently are delivered to UDP sockets that
aren't bound to any interface. TCP defaults to not delivering packets
arriving in a VRF to unbound sockets. IP route lookup and socket
transmit both assume that unbound means using the default table and
UDP applications that haven't been changed to be aware of VRFs may not
function correctly in this case since they may not be able to handle
overlapping IP address ranges, or be able to send packets back to the
original sender if required.
So add a sysctl, udp_l3mdev_accept, to control this behaviour with it
being analgous to the existing tcp_l3mdev_accept, namely to allow a
process to have a VRF-global listen socket. Have this default to off
as this is the behaviour that users will expect, given that there is
no explicit mechanism to set unmodified VRF-unaware application into a
default VRF.

Unlike ipv4, this control socket is shared by all cpus so we cannot use
it as scratchpad area to annotate the mark that we pass to ip6_xmit().
Add a new parameter to ip6_xmit() to indicate the mark. The SCTP socket

we cannot use to carry the mark unless we later on reset it back, which

This happens when the loopback device is set down and a ipv6 fib route
dump is requested.
ip6_null_entry is the root of all ipv6 fib tables making it integrated
into the table and hence passed to the ipv6 route dump code. The
null_entry route uses the loopback device for dst.dev but may not have
rt6i_idev set because of the order in which initializations are done --
ip6_route_net_init is run before addrconf_init has initialized the
loopback device. Fixing the initialization order is a much bigger problem
with no obvious solution thus far.
The BUG is triggered when the loopback is set down and the netif_running
check added by a1a22c1206 fails. The fill_node descends to checking
rt->rt6i_idev for ignore_routes_with_linkdown and since rt6i_idev is
NULL it faults.
The null_entry route should not be processed in a dump request. Catch
and ignore. This check is done in rt6_dump_route as it is the highest
place in the callchain with knowledge of both the route and the network
namespace.

This patch adds a new socket option, TCP_FASTOPEN_CONNECT, as an
alternative way to perform Fast Open on the active side (client). Prior
to this patch, a client needs to replace the connect() call with
sendto(MSG_FASTOPEN). This can be cumbersome for applications who want
to use Fast Open: these socket operations are often done in lower layer
libraries used by many other applications. Changing these libraries
and/or the socket call sequences are not trivial. A more convenient
approach is to perform Fast Open by simply enabling a socket option when
the socket is created w/o changing other socket calls sequence:
s = socket()
create a new socket
setsockopt(s, IPPROTO_TCP, TCP_FASTOPEN_CONNECT …);
newly introduced sockopt
If set, new functionality described below will be used.
Return ENOTSUPP if TFO is not supported or not enabled in the
kernel.
connect()
With cookie present, return 0 immediately.
With no cookie, initiate 3WHS with TFO cookie-request option and
return -1 with errno = EINPROGRESS.
write()/sendmsg()
With cookie present, send out SYN with data and return the number of
bytes buffered.
With no cookie, and 3WHS not yet completed, return -1 with errno =
EINPROGRESS.
No MSG_FASTOPEN flag is needed.
read()
Return -1 with errno = EWOULDBLOCK/EAGAIN if connect() is called but
write() is not called yet.
Return -1 with errno = EWOULDBLOCK/EAGAIN if connection is
established but no msg is received yet.
Return number of bytes read if socket is established and there is
msg received.
The new API simplifies life for applications that always perform a write()
immediately after a successful connect(). Such applications can now take
advantage of Fast Open by merely making one new setsockopt() call at the time
of creating the socket. Nothing else about the application's socket call
sequence needs to change.

Add net.ipv4.ip_unprivileged_port_start, which is a per namespace sysctl
that denotes the first unprivileged inet port in the namespace. To
disable all privileged ports set this to zero. It also checks for
overlap with the local port range. The privileged and local range may
not overlap.
The use case for this change is to allow containerized processes to bind
to priviliged ports, but prevent them from ever being allowed to modify
their container's network configuration. The latter is accomplished by
ensuring that the network namespace is not a child of the user
namespace. This modification was needed to allow the container manager
to disable a namespace's priviliged port restrictions without exposing
control of the network namespace to processes in the user namespace.

nexthop via 10.100.1.16 dev eth1 weight 1 dead linkdown
nexthop via 10.100.2.16 dev eth2 weight 1
10.100.2.0/24 dev eth2 proto kernel scope link src 10.100.2.4
and IPv6 deletes the route as part of flushing all routes for the device:
$ ip -6 ro ls vrf red
2001:db8:2:: dev red proto none metric 0 pref medium
2001:db8:2::/120 dev eth2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:11::/120 via 2001:db8:2::17 dev eth2 metric 1024 pref medium
...
Worse, on admin up of the device the multipath route has to be deleted
to get this leg of the route re-added.
This patch keeps routes that are part of a multipath route if
ignore_routes_with_linkdown is set with the dead and linkdown flags
enabling consistency between IPv4 and IPv6:
$ ip -6 ro ls vrf red

We pass these per-protocol equal functions around in various places, but
we can just have one function that checks the sk->sk_family and then do
the right comparison function. I've also changed the ipv4 version to
not cast to inet_sock since it is unneeded.

This patch tries to avoid skb_cow_data on esp6.
On the encrypt side we add the IPsec tailbits
to the linear part of the buffer if there is
space on it. If there is no space on the linear
part, we add a page fragment with the tailbits to
the buffer and use separate src and dst scatterlists.
On the decrypt side, we leave the buffer as it is
if it is not cloned.
With this, we can avoid a linearization of the buffer
in most of the cases.

With ip6gre we have a tunnel header which also makes the tunnel MTU
smaller. We need to reserve room for it. Previously we were using up
space reserved for the Tunnel Encapsulation Limit option
header (RFC 2473).
Also, after commit b05229f442 ("gre6: Cleanup GREv6 transmit path,
call common GRE functions") our contract with the caller has
changed. Now we check if the packet length exceeds the tunnel MTU after
the tunnel header has been pushed, unlike before.
This is reflected in the check where we look at the packet length minus
the size of the tunnel header, which is already accounted for in tunnel
MTU.

This is an IPv6 version of commit 24803f38a5 ("igmp: do not remove igmp
souce list..."). In mld_del_delrec(), we will restore back all source filter
info instead of flush them.
Move mld_clear_delrec() from ipv6_mc_down() to ipv6_mc_destroy_dev() since
we should not remove source list info when set link down. Remove
igmp6_group_dropped() in ipv6_mc_destroy_dev() since we have called it in
ipv6_mc_down().
Also clear all source info after igmp6_group_dropped() instead of in it
because ipv6_mc_down() will call igmp6_group_dropped().

Currently, we check the existing rtable in PREROUTING hook, if RTCF_LOCAL
is set, we assume that the packet is loopback.
But this assumption is incorrect, for example, a packet encapsulated
in ipsec transport mode was received and routed to local, after
decapsulation, it would be delivered to local again, and the rtable
was not dropped, so RTCF_LOCAL check would trigger. But actually, the
packet was not loopback.
So for these normal loopback packets, we can check whether the in device
is IFF_LOOPBACK or not. For these locally generated broadcast/multicast,
we can check whether the skb->pkt_type is PACKET_LOOPBACK or not.
Finally, there's a subtle difference between nft fib expr and xtables
rpfilter extension, user can add the following nft rule to do strict
rpfilter check:
# nft add rule x y meta iif eth0 fib saddr . iif oif != eth0 drop
So when the packet is loopback, it's better to store the in device
instead of the LOOPBACK_IFINDEX, otherwise, after adding the above
nft rule, locally generated broad/multicast packets will be dropped
incorrectly.

ah6 input processing uses the asynchronous hash crypto API which
supplies an error code as part of the operation completion but
the error code was being ignored.
Treat a crypto API error indication as a verification failure.
While a crypto API reported error would almost certainly result
in a memcpy of the digest failing anyway and thus the security
risk seems minor, performing a memory compare on what might be
uninitialized memory is wrong.

This patch removes the support of RFC5827 early retransmit (i.e.,
fast recovery on small inflight with <3 dupacks) because it is
subsumed by the new RACK loss detection. More specifically when
RACK receives DUPACKs, it'll arm a reordering timer to start fast
recovery after a quarter of (min)RTT, hence it covers the early
retransmit except RACK does not limit itself to specific inflight
or dupack numbers.

This patch makes RACK install a reordering timer when it suspects
some packets might be lost, but wants to delay the decision
a little bit to accomodate reordering.
It does not create a new timer but instead repurposes the existing
RTO timer, because both are meant to retransmit packets.
Specifically it arms a timer ICSK_TIME_REO_TIMEOUT when
the RACK timing check fails. The wait time is set to
RACK.RTT + RACK.reo_wnd - (NOW - Packet.xmit_time) + fudge
This translates to expecting a packet (Packet) should take
(RACK.RTT + RACK.reo_wnd + fudge) to deliver after it was sent.
When there are multiple packets that need a timer, we use one timer
with the maximum timeout. Therefore the timer conservatively uses
the maximum window to expire N packets by one timeout, instead of
N timeouts to expire N packets sent at different times.
The fudge factor is 2 jiffies to ensure when the timer fires, all
the suspected packets would exceed the deadline and be marked lost
by tcp_rack_detect_loss(). It has to be at least 1 jiffy because the
clock may tick between calling icsk_reset_xmit_timer(timeout) and
actually hang the timer. The next jiffy is to lower-bound the timeout
to 2 jiffies when reo_wnd is < 1ms.
When the reordering timer fires (tcp_rack_reo_timeout): If we aren't
in Recovery we'll enter fast recovery and force fast retransmit.
This is very similar to the early retransmit (RFC5827) except RACK
is not constrained to only enter recovery for small outstanding
flights.

The GRO fast path caches the frag0 address. This address becomes
invalid if frag0 is modified by pskb_may_pull or its variants.
So whenever that happens we must disable the frag0 optimization.
This is usually done through the combination of gro_header_hard
and gro_header_slow, however, the IPv6 extension header path did
the pulling directly and would continue to use the GRO fast path
incorrectly.
This patch fixes it by disabling the fast path when we enter the
IPv6 extension header path.

It is possible to avoid the atomic operation in icmp{v6,}_xmit_lock,
by checking the sysctl_icmp_msgs_per_sec ratelimit before these calls,
as pointed out by Eric Dumazet, but the BH disabled state must be correct.
The icmp_global_allow() call states it must be called with BH
disabled. This protection was given by the calls icmp_xmit_lock and
icmpv6_xmit_lock. Thus, split out local_bh_disable/enable from these
functions and maintain it explicitly at callers.

This patch split the global and per (inet)peer ICMP-reply limiter
code, and moves the global limit check to earlier in the packet
processing path. Thus, avoid spending cycles on ICMP replies that
gets limited/suppressed anyhow.
The global ICMP rate limiter icmp_global_allow() is a good solution,
it just happens too late in the process. The kernel goes through the
full route lookup (return path) for the ICMP message, before taking
the rate limit decision of not sending the ICMP reply.
Details: The kernels global rate limiter for ICMP messages got added
in commit 4cdf507d54 ("icmp: add a global rate limitation"). It is
a token bucket limiter with a global lock. It brilliantly avoids
locking congestion by only updating when 20ms (HZ/50) were elapsed. It
can then avoids taking lock when credit is exhausted (when under
pressure) and time constraint for refill is not yet meet.
