Let's not add a function for every external interrupt subclass for
which we need reference counting. Just have two register/unregister
functions which have a subclass parameter:
void irq_subclass_register(enum irq_subclass subclass);
void irq_subclass_unregister(enum irq_subclass subclass);

Dummy slot has been used as a way for missed-events not to be
reported as missing. This has been particularly troublesome for cases
where we might want to temporarily pause all incoming events.
For EDMA DMAC, there is no way to do any such pausing of events as
the occurence of the "next" event is not software controlled.
Using "edma_pause" in IRQ handlers doesn't help as by then the event
in concern from the slave is already missed.
Linking a dummy slot, is seen to absorb these events which we didn't
want to miss. So we don't link to dummy, but instead leave it linked
to NULL set, allow an error condition and detect the channel that
missed it.
Consider the case where we have a scatter-list like:
SG1->SG2->SG3->SG4->SG5->SG6->Null
For ex, for a MAX_NR_SG of 2, earlier we were splitting this as:
SG1->SG2->Null
SG3->SG4->Null
SG5->SG6->Null
Now we split it as
SG1->SG2->Null
SG3->SG4->Null
SG5->SG6->Dummy
This approach results in lesser unwanted interrupts that occur
for the last list split. The Dummy slot has the property of not
raising an error condition if events are missed unlike the Null
slot. We are OK with this as we're done with processing the
whole list once we reach Dummy.

In an effort to move to using Scatter gather lists of any size with
EDMA as discussed at [1] instead of placing limitations on the driver,
we work through the limitations of the EDMAC hardware to find missed
events and issue them.
The sequence of events that require this are:
For the scenario where MAX slots for an EDMA channel is 3:
SG1 -> SG2 -> SG3 -> SG4 -> SG5 -> SG6 -> Null
The above SG list will have to be DMA'd in 2 sets:
(1) SG1 -> SG2 -> SG3 -> Null
(2) SG4 -> SG5 -> SG6 -> Null
After (1) is succesfully transferred, the events from the MMC controller
donot stop coming and are missed by the time we have setup the transfer
for (2). So here, we catch the events missed as an error condition and
issue them manually.
In the second part of the patch, we make handle the NULL slot cases:
For crypto IP, we continue to receive events even continuously in
NULL slot, the setup of the next set of SG elements happens after
the error handler executes. This is results in some recursion problems.
Due to this, we continously receive error interrupts when we manually
trigger an event from the error handler.
We fix this, by first detecting if the Channel is currently transferring
from a NULL slot or not, that's where the edma_read_slot in the error
callback from interrupt handler comes in. With this we can determine if
the set up of the next SG list has completed, and we manually trigger
only in this case. If the setup has _not_ completed, we are still in NULL
so we just set a missed flag and allow the manual triggerring to happen
in edma_execute which will be eventually called. This fixes the above
mentioned race conditions seen with the crypto drivers.

Process SG-elements in batches of MAX_NR_SG if they are greater
than MAX_NR_SG. Due to this, at any given time only those many
slots will be used in the given channel no matter how long the
scatter list is. We keep track of how much has been written
inorder to process the next batch of elements in the scatter-list
and detect completion.
For such intermediate transfer completions (one batch of MAX_NR_SG),
make use of pause and resume functions instead of start and stop
when such intermediate transfer is in progress or completed as we
donot want to clear any pending events.

Changes are made here for configuring existing parameters to support
DMA'ing them out in batches as needed.
Also allocate as many as slots as needed by the SG list, but not more
than MAX_NR_SG. Then these slots will be reused accordingly.
For ex, if MAX_NR_SG=10, and number of SG entries is 40, still only
10 slots will be allocated to DMA the entire SG list of size 40.
Also enable TC interrupts for slots that are a last in a current
iteration, or that fall on a MAX_NR_SG boundary.

We report this to user-space as "Nintendo Wii Remote Drums". There are

these via the same interface. This allows user-space to work with them

When a request returns an error, the driver needs to report the entire

an error other than -ENOENT occurred. Instead, rbd would end up
passing 0 xferred to blk_end_request(), which would always report
needing more data. This resulted in an assert failing when more data
was required by the block layer, but all the object requests were
done:

Some vbioses have extra useless entries after "the end" of the table. This is
problematic since all of the vbios I found with this issue redefine the
pwm freq divider to insane levels (52750 Hz instead of 2500), thus breaking
fan management.
The first solution to solve this mess would be to change the length of the
table. The solution I choose was simply to avoid setting the pwm freq twice
as the other redefinitions are harmless with our current parser.

Commit ea9197cc32 effectively enabled the
use of an improved DAC detection code, but introduced a regression on
the original nv50 chipset, causing a ghost monitor to be detected.
v2 (Ben Skeggs): the offending line was likely a thinko, removed it for
all chipsets (tested nv50 and nve6 to cover entire range) and added
some additional debugging.

Therm uses 3 ptimer alarms. Two to drive the fan and one for polling the
temperature. When suspending/resuming, alarms will never be fired.
As we are checking if there isn't an alarm pending before rescheduling
another one, we end up never checking temperature or updating the
fan speed.
This commit also adds debug messages to be able to spot more easily
if this case happens again in the future. Sorry for the spam if you
activate the debug level though.

As Michael point out, We used to limit the max pending DMAs to get better cache

Fix xgmac_set_rx_mode to handle several conditions that were not handled
correctly as Lennert Buytenhek describes:
If we have, say, 100 unicast addresses, and 5 multicast addresses, the
unicast address count check will evaluate to true, and set use_hash to
true. The multicast address check will however evaluate to false, and
use_hash won't be set to true again, and XGMAC_FRAME_FILTER_HMC won't
be OR'd into XGMAC_FRAME_FILTER, but since use_hash was still true
from the unicast check, netdev_for_each_mc_addr() will program the
multicast addresses into the hash table instead of using the MAC
address registers, but since the HMC bit wasn't set, the hash table
won't be checked for multicast addresses on receive, and we'll stop
receiving multicast packets entirely.
Also, there is no code that zeroes out MAC address registers reg..31
at the end of this function, meaning that under the right conditions,
unicast/multicast addresses that were previously in the filter but
were then deleted won't be cleared out.

Fix the amount of sent bytes reported to BQL by reporting the
number of bytes on wire in the xmit routine, and recording that
value for each skb in order to be correctly confirmed on Tx
confirmation cleanup.
Reporting skb->len to BQL just before exiting xmit is not correct
due to possible insertions of TOE block and alignment bytes in the
skb->data, which are being stripped off by the controller before
transmission on wire. This led to mismatch of (incorrectly)
reported bytes to BQL b/w xmit and Tx confirmation, resulting in
Tx timeout firing, for the h/w tx timestamping acceleration case.
There's no easy way to obtain the number of bytes on wire in the Tx
confirmation routine, so skb->cb is used to convey that information
from xmit to Tx confirmation, for now (as proposed by Eric). Revived
the currently unused GFAR_CB() construct for that purpose.

verifies if the skb has the tag (and returns an error if not), and we can
receive tagged skbs only if we *already* have vlans.
Plus, the current RCUed implementation is kind of useless anyway - the we

Please accept this batch of updates intended for the 3.12 stream.
For the mac80211 bits, Johannes says this:
"This time I have various improvements all over the place: IBSS, mesh,
testmode, AP client powersave handling, one of the rare rfkill patches
and some code cleanup."
Also for mac80211:
"And I also have some more changes for -next, just a few small fixes and
improvements, nothing really stands out."
And for iwlwifi:
"This time I have some powersave work (notably uAPSD support), CQM
offloads, support for a new firmware API and various code cleanups."
Regarding the Bluetooth bits, Gustavo says:
"Patches to 3.12, here we have:
* implementation of a proper tty_port for RFCOMM devices, this fixes some
issues people were seeing lately in the kernel.
* Add voice_setting option for SCO, it is used for SCO Codec selection
* bugfixes, small improvements and clean ups"
For the NFC bits, Samuel says:
"With this one we have:
- A few pn533 improvements and minor fixes. Testing our pn533 driver
against Google's NCI stack triggered a few issues that we fixed now.
We also added Tx fragmentation support to this driver.
- More NFC secure element handling. We added a GET_SE netlink command
for getting all the discovered secure elements, and we defined 2
additional secure element netlink event (transaction and connectivity).
We also fixed a couple of typos and copy-paste bugs from the secure
element handling code.
- Firmware download support for the pn544 driver. This chipset can enter a
special mode where it's waiting for firmware blobs to replace the
already flashed one. We now support that mode."
With repect to the ath tree, Kalle says:
"New features in ath10k are rx/tx checsumming in hw and survey scan
implemented by Michal. Also he made fixes to different areas of the
driver, most notable being fixing the case when using two streams and
reducing the number of interface combinations to avoid firmware crashes.
Bartosz did a clean related to how we handle SoC power save in PCI
layer.
For ath6kl Mohammed and Vasanth sent each a patch to fix two infrequent
crashes."
I also pulled the wireless tree into wireless-next to support a
request from Johannes. On top of all that, there are the usual
sort of driver updates. The mwifiex, brcmfmac, brcmsmac, ath9k,
and rt2x00 drivers all get some attention, as does the bcma bus and
a few other random bits here and there.

Add support for new Intel NTB devices on upcoming Xeon hardware. Since
the Xeon hardware design is already in place in the driver, all that is
needed are the new device ids.
Remove the device IDs for NTB devs running in Transparent Bridge mode,
as this driver is not being used for those devices.
Rename the device IDs for NTB devs running in NTB-RP mode to better
identify their usage model. "PS" to denote the Primary Side of NTB, and
"SS" to denote the secondary side. The primary side is the interface
exposed to the local system, and the secondary side is the interface
exposed to the remote system.

The BWD NTB device will drop the link if an error is encountered on the
point-to-point PCI bridge. The link will stay down until all errors are
cleared and the link is re-established. On link down, check to see if
the error is detected, if so do the necessary housekeeping to try and
recover from the error and reestablish the link.
There is a potential race between the 2 NTB devices recovering at the
same time. If the times are synchronized, the link will not recover and the
driver will be stuck in this loop forever. Add a random interval to the
recovery time to prevent this race.

There is a Xeon hardware errata related to writes to SDOORBELL or
B2BDOORBELL in conjunction with inbound access to NTB MMIO Space, which
may hang the system. To workaround this issue, use one of the memory
windows to access the interrupt and scratch pad registers on the remote
system. This bypasses the issue, but removes one of the memory windows
from use by the transport. This reduction of MWs necessitates adding
some logic to determine the number of available MWs.
Since some NTB usage methodologies may have unidirectional traffic, the
ability to disable the workaround via modparm has been added.

This patch creates the character device as long as a device's admin queues
are usable so a user has an opprotunity to perform administration tasks.
A device may be in a state that does not allow IO and setting the queue
count feature in such a state returns an error. Previously the driver
would bail and the controller would be unusable.

The 'Number of Namespaces' read from the device was being treated as
signed, which would cause us to not scan any namespaces for a device
with more than 2 billion namespaces. That led to noticing that the
namespace ID was also being treated as signed, which could lead to the
result from NVME_IOCTL_ID being treated as an error code.

Debugfs was setup in NTB to only have a single debugfs directory. This
resulted in the leaking of debugfs directories and files when multiple
NTB devices were present, due to each device stomping on the variables
containing the previous device's values (thus preventing them from being
freed on cleanup). Correct this by creating a secondary directory of
the PCI BDF for each device present, and nesting the previously existing
information in those directories.

If an error is encountered in ntb_device_setup, it is possible that the
spci_cmd isn't populated. Writes to the offset can result in a NULL
pointer dereference. This issue is easily encountered by running in
NTB-RP mode, as it currently is not supported and will generate an
error. To get around this issue, return if an error is encountered
prior to attempting to write to the spci_cmd offset.

converted and that CONFIG_GENERIC_HARDIRQS can be removed. Martin
prepared a patch for that already (see genirq branch), but the best
time to merge that is probably at the end of the merge window / begin

Another patch converts s390 to software referenced bits instead of
relying on the reference bit in the storage key. Therefore s390
doesn't use storage keys anymore, except for kvm.

intel_fixed_panel_mode() overwrote the adjusted_mode with the fixed mode
only partially. Notably it forgot to copy over the sync flags. The LVDS code however programmed the hardware with the sync flags from fixed mode, and then later the pipe config comparison obviously failed as we
filled out the adjusted_mode in get_config from the real registers.
Just call drm_mode_copy() in intel_fixed_panel_mode() to copy over the
whole thing, and then just use adjusted_mode in the LVDS code to figure
out which sync settings the hardware needs.
Also constify the fixed_mode argument to intel_fixed_panel_mode().

This is intended to add VGA arbiter support for Intel HD graphics on
Core processors. The old GMCH registers no longer exist, so even
though it appears that i915 participates in VGA arbitration, it doesn't
work. On Intel HD graphics we already attempt to disable VGA regions
of the device. This makes registering as a VGA client unnecessary since
we don't intend to operate differently depending on how many VGA devices
are present. We can disable VGA memory regions by clearing the memory
enable bit in the VGA MSR. That only leaves VGA IO, which we update
the VGA arbiter to know that we don't participate in VGA memory
arbitration. We also add a hook on unload to re-enable memory and
reinstate VGA memory arbitration.
v3: Use explicit LEGACY_IO | LEGACY_MEM when restoring rather than
LEGACY_MASK, per Ville's comments.
v2: I915_READ/WRITE accessors don't work in i915_disable_vga, use inb/outb
directly. Also, on the driver unbind VGA enable path, acquire legacy
IO to re-enable VGA memory. Correct comment.

fixup 2
When VGA decodes change we need to do a bit more evaluation of exactly what
has changed. We don't necessarily give up all the old owns resources and
we need to account for resources with locks. The new algorithm is: If
something is added, update decodes. If legacy resources were added and
none were there before, we have a new participant. If something is
removed, update decodes. If we previously owned it, we no longer own it.
If it was previously locked, invalidate all locks and release it. If
legacy resources were removed and none are left, remove the participant
from VGA arbitration.
Previously we updated decodes, released ownership of everything that was
previously decoded, ignored all locks, and went off looking for another
device to transfer VGA to. In a test case where Intel IGD removes only
legacy VGA memory decoding, this left the arbiter switching to discrete
graphics without actually disabling legacy VGA IO from the IGD. As a
bonus, we bumped up the count of VGA arbitration participants for no
good reason.

If a device does not own a resource then we don't need to disable it.
This resolves the case where an Intel IGD device can be configured to
disable decode of VGA memory but we still need the arbiter to handle
VGA I/O port routing. When the IGD device is in conflict, only
PCI_COMMAND_IO should be disabled since VGA memory does not require
arbitration on this device.

Systems with Intel graphics controllers set aside memory exclusively for
gfx driver use. This memory is not always marked in the E820 as
reserved or as RAM, and so is subject to overlap from E820 manipulation
later in the boot process. On some systems, MMIO space is allocated on
top, despite the efforts of the "RAM buffer" approach, which simply
rounds memory boundaries up to 64M to try to catch space that may decode
as RAM and so is not suitable for MMIO.

RCS flips do work on Iybridge+ so long as we can unmask the messages
through DERRMR. However, there are quite a few workarounds mentioned
regarding unmasking more than one event or triggering more than one
message through DERRMR. Those workarounds in principle prevent us from
performing pipelined flips (and asynchronous flips across multiple
planes) and equally apply to the "known good" BCS ring. Given that it
already appears to work, and also appears to work with unmasking all 3
planes at once (and queuing flips across multiple planes), be brave.

Not much exciting going on with the regulator API this time around, lots
of driver fixes and enhancements - the main thing is the addition of a
new API to help make the stubbing code do the right thing for missing
regulator mappings.
Highlights:
- A new regulator_get_optional() API call for regulators that can be
absent in normal operation. This currently does nothing but will be
used to improve the stubbing code for unspecified regulators, helping
avoid some of the issues we've seen with adding new regulator support.
- Helpers for devices with multiple linear ranges of voltages in the
same regulator.
- Moved the helpers into a separate file since core.c is getting rather
large.
- New drivers for Dialog DA9210 and DA9063, Freescale pfuze100 and
Marvell 88pm800.

Pull regulator updates from Mark Brown:
"Not much exciting going on with the regulator API this time around,
lots of driver fixes and enhancements - the main thing is the addition
of a new API to help make the stubbing code do the right thing for
missing regulator mappings.
Highlights:
- A new regulator_get_optional() API call for regulators that can be
absent in normal operation. This currently does nothing but will
be used to improve the stubbing code for unspecified regulators,
helping avoid some of the issues we've seen with adding new
regulator support.
- Helpers for devices with multiple linear ranges of voltages in the
same regulator.
- Moved the helpers into a separate file since core.c is getting
rather large.
- New drivers for Dialog DA9210 and DA9063, Freescale pfuze100 and

A race condition may happen if two threads are both trying to open the same sg
with O_EXCL simultaneously. It's possible that they both find fsds list is
empty and get_exclude(sdp) returns 0, then they both call set_exclude() and
break out from wait_event_interruptible and resume open.
Now use rwsem to protect this process. Exclusive open gets write lock and
others get read lock. The lock will be held until file descriptor is closed.
This also leads 'exclude' only a status rather than a check mark.

Commit b90ebc3d5c ("[SCSI] scsi_debug:
fix logical block provisioning support") fixed several issues with
logical block provisioning support, but it still doesn't properly fix
the cases when unmap_alignment > 0.
For example, load scsi_debug module with the following module parameters
and make all blocks mapped by filling the storage with zero.
# modprobe scsi_debug lbpu=1 unmap_alignment=1 unmap_granularity=4
# dd if=/dev/zero of=$DEV
Then, try to unmap the first unmappable blocks at lba=1, but GET LBA STATUS
unexpectedly reports that the last UNMAP has done nothing.
# sg_unmap --lba=1 --num=4 $DEV
# sg_get_lba_status --lba=1 $DEV
descriptor LBA: 0x0000000000000001 blocks: 16383 mapped
The problem is in map_index_to_lba(), which should return the first
LBA which is corresponding to a given index of provisioning map
(map_storep).

Added a driver module parameter max_msix_vectors. Using this module parameter
the maximum number of MSI-X vectors could be set.
The number of MSI-X vectors used would be the minimum of MSI-X vectors
supported by the HBA, the number of CPU cores and the value set to
max_msix_vectors module parameter.
The default value of this module parameter is set to 8. The default value of
this parameter is set to 8 inorder to reduce the amount of memory required for
Reply Descriptor Post queue. This is because with the higher MSI-X vectors,
some times kernel is not able to allocate the requested amount of memory and
crash is observed. To overcome this problem, the default value is set to 8.

With some enclosures when LUN 0 is not created but LUN 1 or LUN X is created
then SCSI scan procedure calls target_alloc, slave_alloc call back functions
for LUN 0 and slave_destory() for same LUN 0.
In these kind of cases within slave_destroy, pointer to scsi_target in
_sas_device structure is set to NULL, following which when slave_alloc for
LUN 1 is called then starget would not be set properly for this LUN.
So, scsi_target pointer pointing to NULL value would lead to a crash later
in the discovery procedure.
To solve this issue set the sas_device's scsi_target pointer to scsi_device's
scsi_target if it is NULL earlier in slave_alloc callback function.

When Async scanning mode is enabled and device scanning is in progress then
devices should not be removed. But in actuality, devices are removed but
their transport layer entries are not removed. This causes error to add
the same device to the transport layer after host reset or diagnostic

So, in this patch, modified the code in such a way that device is not removed
when Async scanning mode is enabled and device scanning is in progress.

The 10-bit and 12-bit Bayer output formats supported by FIMC-LITE
actually use 16 bits where the extra bits are padded with zeros.
The patch corrects buffer allocation for these two formats by

free_buff_list and rec_buff_list are initialized in the middle of hdpvr_probe(),
but if something bad happens before that, error handling code calls hdpvr_delete(),
which contains iteration over the lists (via hdpvr_free_buffers()).
The patch moves the lists initialization to the beginning and by the way fixes
goto label in error handling of registering videodev.

The image data is laid out a bit more weirdly and thus needs more work to
properly interlace. What we get from hardware is V4L2_FIELD_ALTERNATE, but
since userspace support for it is practically nonexistent, thus we make
V4L2_FIELD_INTERLACED from it so that it's more easily interpreted.

Commit 1c1d86a1ea ("[media] v4l2: always require v4l2_dev,
rename parent to dev_parent") expects v4l2_dev to be always set.
It converted most of the drivers using the parent field of video_device
to v4l2_dev field. G2D driver did not set the parent field. Hence it got
left out. Without this patch we get the following boot warning and G2D
driver fails to register the video device.

The video encode/decode paths have duplicated logic between
VIDIOC_TRY_FMT and VIDIOC_S_FMT that should be de-duped. Also, video

what the actual output has been set at. Fix this.

At several places the gpiolib will proceed to handle a GPIO
descriptor even if it's ->chip member is NULL and no gpiochip
is associated.
Fix this by checking that both the descriptor cookie *and*
the chip pointer are valid.
Also bail out earlier with more specific diagnostic messages
on missing operations for setting as input/output or debounce.
ChangeLog v1->v2:
- Also return -EIO on gpiod_set_debounce() with missing
operations in the vtable
- Fix indentations.

Commit 76abbdde2d
pwm: Add sysfs interface
causes a kernel oops due to a null pointer dereference on PXA platforms.
This happens because the class added by the patch is registered in a
subsys_initcall (initcall4), but the pxa pwm driver is registered in
arch_initcall (initcall3). If the class is not registered before the
driver probe function runs, the oops occurs in device_add() when the
uninitialized pointers in struct class are dereferenced. I don't see a
reason that the driver must be an arch_initcall, so this patch makes it
a regular module_platform_driver (initcall6), preventing the oops.
