Now that a display timing binding is available, convert our almost identical
binding to use the standard binding.
This patch converts the vt8500 and wm8505 framebuffer drivers and
associated dts/dtsi files to use the standard binding as defined in
bindings/video/display-timing.txt.
There are two side-effects of making this conversion:
1) The fb node should now be in the board file, rather than the soc file as
the display-timing node is a child of the fb node.
2) We still require a bits per pixel property to initialize the framebuffer
for the different lcd panels. Rather than including this as part of the
display timing, it is moved into the framebuffer node.
I have also taken the opportunity to alphabetise the includes of each
driver to avoid double-ups.

The various devm_ functions allocate memory that is released when a driver
detaches. This patch uses these functions for data that is allocated in
the probe function of a platform device and is only freed in the remove
function.
The patch makes some other cleanups. First, the original code used
devm_kzalloc, but kfree. This would lead to a double free. The problem
was found using the following semantic match (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/):
// <smpl>
@@
expression x,e;
@@
x = devm_kzalloc(...)
... when != x = e
?-kfree(x,...);
// </smpl>
The error-handing code of devm_request_and_ioremap does not print any
warning message, because devm_request_and_ioremap does this.
The call to dma_alloc_coherent is converted to its devm equivalent,
dmam_alloc_coherent. This implicitly introduces a call to
dmam_free_coherent, which was completly missing in the original code.
A semicolon is removed at the end of the error-handling code for the call
to dma_alloc_coherent.
The block of code calling fb_alloc_cmap is moved below the block of code
calling wm8505fb_set_par, so that the error-handing code of the call to
wm8505fb_set_par can just return ret. This way there is only one block of
error-handling code that needs to call fb_dealloc_cmap, and so this is
moved up to the place where it is needed, eliminating the need for all
gotos and labels in the function. This was suggested by Tony Prisk.
The initializations of fbi and ret at the beginning of the function are not
necessary and are removed. The call platform_set_drvdata(pdev, NULL); at
the end of the function is also removed.

Structs for platform data of omapdss panels are found in headers in the
'include/video/' path. Board files populate these structs with platform
specific values, and the panel driver uses these to configure the panel.
Currently, each panel has it's own header in the above path. Move all the
omapdss panel platform data structs to a single header omap-panel-data.h.
This is useful because:
- All other omapdss panel drivers will be modified to use platform data. This
would lead to a lot of panel headers usable only by omapdss. A lot of these
platform data structs are trivial, and don't really need a separate header.
- Platform data would be eventually removed, and platform information would be
passed via device tree. Therefore, omapdss panel platform data structs are
temporary, and will be easier to remove if they are all in the same header.
- All board files will have to include the same header to configure a panel's
platform data, that makes the board files more consistent.

The support outputs struct for overlay managers is incorrect for OMAP4. Make
these changes:
- DPI isn't supported via the LCD1 overlay manager, remove DPI as a supported
output.
- the TV manager can suppport DPI, but the omapdss driver doesn't support that
yet, we require some muxing at the DSS level, and we also need to configure
the hdmi pll in the DPI driver so that the TV manager has a pixel clock. We
don't support that yet.

This driver uses omap_dss_device that it gets from a board file through
SPI platfrom_data pointer to pass data from SPI to DSS portion of the
driver by using dev_set_drvdata(). However this trick no longer works,
as DSS core no longer uses omap_dss_device from a board file to create
the real device, so use a global pointer to accomplish this instead,
like other SPI panel drivers do.

The issue fixed by this patch manifests only then using X11
with mxsfb driver. The X11 will display either shifted image
or otherwise distorted image on the LCD.
The problem is that the X11 tries to reconfigure the framebuffer
and along the way calls fb_ops.fb_set_par() with X11's desired
configuration values. The field of particular interest is
fb_info->var.sync which contains non-standard values if
configured by kernel. These are either FB_SYNC_DATA_ENABLE_HIGH_ACT,
FB_SYNC_DOTCLK_FAILING_ACT or both, depending on the platform
configuration. Both of these values are defined in the
include/linux/mxsfb.h file.
The driver interprets these values and configures the LCD controller
accordingly. Yet X11 only has access to the standard values for this
field defined in include/uapi/linux/fb.h and thus, unlike kernel,
omits these special values. This results in distorted image on the
LCD.
This patch moves these non-standard values into new field of the
mxsfb_platform_data structure so the driver can in turn check this
field instead of the video mode field for these specific portions.
Moreover, this patch prefixes these values with MXSFB_SYNC_ prefix
instead of FB_SYNC_ prefix to prevent confusion of subsequent users.

ARM: at91: fix LCD-wiring mode
atmel_lcdfb: fix 16-bpp modes on older SOCs
Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
Add platform device-id table in order to identify the controller and
determine its configuration.
The currently used configuration parameters are:
have_alt_pixclock
- SOC uses an alternate pixel-clock calculation formula (at91sam9g45
non-ES)
have_hozval
- SOC has a HOZVAL field in LCDFRMCFG which is used to determine the
linesize for STN displays (at91sam9261, at921sam9g10 and at32ap)
have_intensity_bit
- SOC uses IBGR:555 rather than BGR:565 16-bit pixel layout
(at91sam9261, at91sam9263 and at91sam9rl)
This allows us to remove all the remaining uses of cpu_is macros from
the driver.
Tested on at91sam9263 and at91sam9g45, compile-tested for other
AT91-SOCs, and untested for AVR32.

Pass atmel_lcd_info structure to compute_hozval and only do the register
access on SOCs that actually use it.
This will also simplify the removal of the cpu_is macros.

Add hclk entry for the atmel_lcdfb bus clock.
On at91sam9261, at91sam9g10 and at32ap the bus clock has to be enabled
as well as the peripheral clock. Add the appropriate lookup entries to
these SOCs and fake clocks to the SOCs that do not use it.
This allows us to get rid of the conditional enabling of the clocks in
the driver which relied on the cpu_is macros.
Tested on at91sam9263 and at91sam9g45, compile-tested for other
AT91-SOCs, and untested for AVR32.

than BGR:565.

Display timing's fields have minimum, typical and maximum values. These
can be accessed by using timing_entry_index enum, and
display_timing_get_value() function.
There's no real need for this extra complexity. The values can be
accessed more easily by just using the min/typ/max fields.

Both videomode and display_timing contain flags describing the modes.
These are stored in dmt_flags and data_flags. There's no need to
separate these flags, and having separate fields just makes the flags
more difficult to use.
This patch combines the fields and renames VESA_DMT_* flags to
DISPLAY_FLAGS_*.

This patch simplifies videomode related Kconfig and Makefile. After this
patch, there's only one non-user selectable Kconfig option left,
VIDEOMODE_HELPERS. The reasons for the change:
* Videomode helper functions are not something that should be shown in
the kernel configuration options. The related code should just be
included if it's needed, i.e. selected by drivers using videomode.
* There's no need to have separate Kconfig options for videomode and
display_timing. First of all, the amount of code for both is quite
small. Second, videomode depends on display_timing, and display_timing
in itself is not really useful, so both would be included in any case.
* CONFIG_VIDEOMODE is a bit vague name, and CONFIG_VIDEOMODE_HELPERS
describes better what's included.

Commit 16559ae4 (kgdb: remove #include <linux/serial_8250.h> from kgdb.h)
had a side effect of breaking omap1_defconfig build as some headers
were included indirectly:

...
This worked earlier as linux/serial_8250.h included linux/serial_core.h,

blocks found on Atmel AT91 SoCs. The VT8500 driver now supports changing

User drivers can now query the core for whether access to a PWM device

Merge tag 'for-3.9-rc1' of git://gitorious.org/linux-pwm/linux-pwm
Pull PWM changes from Thierry Reding:
"A new driver has been added to support the PWM mode of the timer
counter blocks found on Atmel AT91 SoCs. The VT8500 driver now
supports changing the PWM signal polarity and the TI drivers (EHRPWM
and ECAP) gained suspend and resume functionality.
User drivers can now query the core for whether access to a PWM device
will sleep (if the PWM chip is on a slow bus such as I2C or SPI).
The pwm-backlight driver now handles the backlight BL_CORE_FBBLANK
state in addition to the FB layer's blanking states.

Getting the brightness value is not critical, no need to read the actual
register value. To simplify it, just return the 'bl->props.brightness'
value. Then, lp855x_read_byte() can be removed, not used any more.

LP8557 is one of LP855x family device, but it has different register map
and initialization process. To support this device, device specific
configuration is done through the lp855x_device_config structure.
Few register definitions are fixed for better readability.
BRIGHTNESS_CTRL -> LP855X_BRIGHTNESS_CTRL
DEVICE_CTRL -> LP855X_DEVICE_CTRL
EEPROM_START -> LP855X_EEPROM_START
EEPROM_END -> LP855X_EEPROM_END
EPROM_START -> LP8556_EPROM_START
EPROM_END -> LP8556_EPROM_END
And LP8557 register definitions are added. New register function,
lp855x_update_bit() is added.

At this moment, LP855x device driver has fixed register configuration.
For example, fixed register addresses and values are set on the device
initialization. But new device of LP855x family, LP8557 has different
register map and initialization sequence. To support new device
architecture, initialization process should be changed.
Introduce new structure: lp855x_device_config
=============================================
With lp855x_device_config, device specific features are configurable.
Use configurable function calls and register addresses rather than fixed values.
Change on device initialization
===============================
In old LP855x driver architecture, the device initialization was simple.
- Just update the brightness/device control register/ROM area(optional).
In new LP855x driver architecture, two more works are added - pre_init and
post_init.
Those init functions are optional, used for new device LP8557.
New device initialization flow: generic sequence
=================================================
1) pre_init_device()
2) update the brightness register
3) update the device control register
4) update ROM area if need
5) post_init_device()
Name change
===========
Use generic name 'lp855x_configure()' instead of 'lp855x_init_registers()'.

This is an initial commit of a backlight driver, using step-up DCDC
power supplies on AS3711 PMIC. Only one mode has actually been tested,
several further modes have been implemented "dry," but disabled to avoid
accidental hardware damage. Anyone wishing to use any of those modes
will have to modify the driver.
Tested on sh73a0-based kzm9g board. Only one mode has been tested and
is enabled. That mode copies the sample code from the manufacturer.

is new, so Greg did not have a chance to fix it up when introducing his

Add mmp display subsystem to support Marvell MMP display controllers.
This subsystem contains 4 parts:
--fb folder
--core.c
--hw folder
--panel folder
1. fb folder contains implementation of fb. fb get path and overlay
from common interface and operates on these structures.
2. core.c provides common interface for a hardware abstraction. Major
parts of this interface are:
a) Path: path is a output device connected to a panel or HDMI TV. Main
operations of the path is set/get timing/output color. fb operates
output device through path structure.
b) Ovly: Ovly is a buffer shown on the path.
Ovly describes frame buffer and its source/destination size, offset,
input color, buffer address, z-order, and so on. Each fb device maps
to one overlay.
3. hw folder contains implementation of hardware operations defined by
core.c. It registers paths for fb use.
4. panel folder contains implementation of panels. It's connected to
path. Panel drivers would also regiester panels and linked to path
when probe.

Framebuffer support for the Goldfish emulator. This takes the Google
emulator and applies the x86 cleanups as well as moving the blank
methods to the usual Linux place and dropping the Android early suspend
logic (for now at least, that can be looked at as Android and upstream
converge). Dropped various oddities like setting MTRRs on a virtual
frame buffer emulation...
With the drivers so far you can now boot a Linux initrd and have fun.

This round drops a number of usages of [delayed_]work_pending(), which
are dangerous as they lack any form of synchronization and thus often
lead to buggy / unnecessary code. There are a couple legitimate use
cases in kernel. Hopefully, they can be converted and
[delayed_]work_pending() can be removed completely. Even if not,
removing most of misuses should make it more difficult to find
examples of misuses and thus slow down growth of them.

So on an omap3630, code that was previously enabled by

So add FEAT_DPI_USES_VDDS_DSI to omap3630_dss_feat_list.

Okay so Alan's patch handled the case where there was no registered fbcon,
however the other path entered in set_con2fb_map pit.
In there we called fbcon_takeover, but we also took the console lock in a couple
of places. So push the console lock out to the callers of set_con2fb_map,
this means fbmem and switcheroo needed to take the lock around the fb notifier
entry points that lead to this.

If grub2 loads efifb/vesafb, then when systemd starts it can set the console
font on that framebuffer device, however when we then load the native KMS
driver, the first thing it does is tear down the generic framebuffer driver.
The thing is the generic code is doing the right thing, it frees the font
because otherwise it would leak memory. However we can assume that if you
are removing the generic firmware driver (vesa/efi/offb), that a new driver
*should* be loading soon after, so we effectively leak the font.
However the old code left a dangling pointer in vc->vc_font.data and we
can now reuse that dangling pointer to load the font into the new
driver, now that we aren't freeing it.

When we switch from 256->512 byte font rendering mode, it means the
current contents of the screen is being reinterpreted. The bit that holds
the high bit of the 9-bit font, may have been previously set, and thus
the new font misrenders.
The problem case we see is grub2 writes spaces with the bit set, so it
ends up with data like 0x820, which gets reinterpreted into 0x120 char
which the font translates into G with a circumflex. This flashes up on
screen at boot and is quite ugly.
A current side effect of this patch though is that any rendering on the
screen changes color to a slightly darker color, but at least the screen
no longer corrupts.
v2: as suggested by hpa, always clear the attribute space, whether we
are are going to or from 512 chars.

Since commit f74de500 "drivers/video: fsl-diu-fb: streamline
enabling of interrupts" the interrupt handling in the driver
is broken. Enabling diu interrupt causes an interrupt storm and
results in system lockup.
The cookie for the interrupt handler function passed to request_irq()
is wrong (it must be a pointer to the diu struct, and not the address
of the pointer to the diu struct). As a result the interrupt handler
can not read diu registers and acknowledge the interrupt. Fix cookie
arguments for request_irq() and free_irq().
Registering the diu interrupt handler in probe() must happen before
install_fb() calls since this function registers framebuffer devices
and if fbcon tries to take over framebuffer after registering a frame
buffer device, it will call fb_open of the diu driver and enable the
interrupts. At this time the diu interrupt handler must be registered
already.
Disabling the interrupts in fsl_diu_release() must happen only if all
other AOIs are closed. Otherwise closing an overlay plane will disable
the interrupts even if the primary frame buffer plane is opened. Add
an appropriate check in the release function.

This adds support for reading display timings from DT into a struct
display_timings. The of_display_timing implementation supports multiple
subnodes. All children are read into an array, that can be queried.
If no native mode is specified, the first subnode will be used.
For cases where the graphics driver knows there can be only one
mode description or where the driver only supports one mode, a helper
function of_get_videomode is added, that gets a struct videomode from DT.

Add display_timing structure and the according helper functions. This allows
the description of a display via its supported timing parameters.
Also, add helper functions to convert from display timings to a generic videomode
structure.
The struct display_timing specifies all needed parameters to describe the signal
properties of a display in one mode. This includes
- ranges for signals that may have min-, max- and typical values
- single integers for signals that can be on, off or are ignored
- booleans for signals that are either on or off
As a display may support multiple modes like this, a struct display_timings is
added, that holds all given struct display_timing pointers and declares the
native mode of the display.
Although a display may state that a signal can be in a range, it is driven with
fixed values that indicate a videomode. Therefore graphic drivers don't need all
the information of struct display_timing, but would generate a videomode from
the given set of supported signal timings and work with that.
The video subsystems all define their own structs that describe a mode and work
with that (e.g. fb_videomode or drm_display_mode). To slowly replace all those
various structures and allow code reuse across those subsystems, add struct
videomode as a generic description.
This patch only includes the most basic fields in struct videomode. All missing
fields that are needed to have a really generic video mode description can be
added at a later stage.
