1) struct netns_frags is renamed to struct fqdir
This structure is really holding many frag queues in a hash table.
2) (struct inet_frag_queue)->net field is renamed to fqdir
since net is generally associated to a 'struct net' pointer
in networking stack.

In function ip6_ra_control(), the pointer new_ra is allocated a memory
space via kmalloc(). And it is used in the following codes. However,
when there is a memory allocation error, kmalloc() fails. Thus null
pointer dereference may happen. And it will cause the kernel to crash.
Therefore, we should check the return value and handle the error.

Move fib6_nh to the end of fib6_info and make it an array of
size 0. Pass a flag to fib6_info_alloc indicating if the
allocation needs to add space for a fib6_nh.
The current code path always has a fib6_nh allocated with a
fib6_info; with nexthop objects they will be separate.

Similar to the pcpu routes exceptions are really per nexthop, so move
rt6i_exception_bucket from fib6_info to fib6_nh.
To avoid additional increases to the size of fib6_nh for a 1-bit flag,
use the lowest bit in the allocated memory pointer for the flushed flag.
Add helpers for retrieving the bucket pointer to mask off the flag.
The cleanup of the exception bucket is moved to fib6_nh_release.
fib6_nh_flush_exceptions can now be called from 2 contexts:
1. deleting a fib entry
2. deleting a fib6_nh
For 1., fib6_nh_flush_exceptions is called for a specific fib6_info that
is getting deleted. All exceptions in the cache using the entry are
deleted. For 2, the fib6_nh itself is getting destroyed so
fib6_nh_flush_exceptions is called for a NULL fib6_info which means
flush all entries.
The pmtu.sh selftest exercises the affected code paths - from creating
exceptions to cleaning them up on device delete. All tests pass without
any rcu locking or memleak warnings.

Before moving exception bucket from fib6_info to fib6_nh, refactor
rt6_flush_exceptions, rt6_remove_exception_rt, rt6_mtu_change_route,
and rt6_update_exception_stamp_rt. In all 3 cases, move the primary
logic into a new helper that starts with fib6_nh_. The latter 3
functions still take a fib6_info; this will be changed to fib6_nh
in the next patch.
In the case of rt6_mtu_change_route, move the fib6_metric_locked
out as a standalone check - no need to call the new function if
the fib entry has the mtu locked. Also, add fib6_info to
rt6_mtu_change_arg as a way of passing the fib entry to the new
helper.
No functional change intended. The goal here is to make the next
patch easier to review by moving existing lookup logic for each to
new helpers.

Move the existing pcpu walk in fib6_drop_pcpu_from to a new
helper, __fib6_drop_pcpu_from, that can be invoked per fib6_nh with a
reference to the from entries that need to be evicted. If the passed
in 'from' is non-NULL then only entries associated with that fib6_info
are removed (e.g., case where fib entry is deleted); if the 'from' is
NULL are entries are flushed (e.g., fib6_nh is deleted).
For fib6_info entries with builtin fib6_nh (ie., current code) there
is no change in behavior.

rt6_info are specific instances of a fib entry and are tied to a
device and gateway - ie., a nexthop. Before nexthop objects, IPv6 fib
entries have separate fib6_info for each nexthop in a multipath route,
so the location of the pcpu cache in the fib6_info struct worked.
However, with nexthop objects a fib6_info can point to a set of nexthops
(yet another alignment of ipv6 with ipv4). Accordingly, the pcpu
cache needs to be moved to the fib6_nh struct so the cached entries
are local to the nexthop specification used to create the rt6_info.
Initialization and free of the pcpu entries moved to fib6_nh_init and
fib6_nh_release.
Change in location only, from fib6_info down to fib6_nh; no other
functional change intended.

IPv6 redirect is broken for VRF. __ip6_route_redirect walks the FIB

FLOWI_FLAG_SKIP_NH_OIF set in the flags to tell the lookup to skip the
device match. For redirects the device match is requires so use that

Here are series of patches that add SPDX tags to different kernel files,
based on two different things:
- SPDX entries are added to a bunch of files that we missed a year ago
that do not have any license information at all.
These were either missed because the tool saw the MODULE_LICENSE()
tag, or some EXPORT_SYMBOL tags, and got confused and thought the
file had a real license, or the files have been added since the last
big sweep, or they were Makefile/Kconfig files, which we didn't
touch last time.
- Add GPL-2.0-only or GPL-2.0-or-later tags to files where our scan
tools can determine the license text in the file itself. Where this
happens, the license text is removed, in order to cut down on the
700+ different ways we have in the kernel today, in a quest to get
rid of all of these.
These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing
list, and while they were created by automatic tools, they were
hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on the
patches are reviewers.
The reason for these "large" patches is if we were to continue to
progress at the current rate of change in the kernel, adding license
tags to individual files in different subsystems, we would be finished
in about 10 years at the earliest.
There will be more series of these types of patches coming over the next
few weeks as the tools and reviewers crunch through the more "odd"
variants of how to say "GPLv2" that developers have come up with over
the years, combined with other fun oddities (GPL + a BSD disclaimer?)
that are being unearthed, with the goal for the whole kernel to be
cleaned up.
These diffstats are not small, 3840 files are touched, over 10k lines

NFTA_FIB_F_PRESENT flag was not always honored since eval functions did
not call nft_fib_store_result in all cases.
Given that in all callsites there is a struct net_device pointer
available which holds the interface data to be stored in destination
register, simplify nft_fib_store_result() to just accept that pointer
instead of the nft_pktinfo pointer and interface index. This also
allows to drop the index to interface lookup previously needed to get
the name associated with given index.

When inserting route cache into the exception table, the key is
generated with both src_addr and dest_addr with src addr routing.
However, current logic always assumes the src_addr used to generate the
key is a /128 host address. This is not true in the following scenarios:
1. When the route is a gateway route or does not have next hop.
(rt6_is_gw_or_nonexthop() == false)
2. When calling ip6_rt_cache_alloc(), saddr is passed in as NULL.
This means, when looking for a route cache in the exception table, we
have to do the lookup twice: first time with the passed in /128 host
address, second time with the src_addr stored in fib6_info.
This solves the pmtu discovery issue reported by Mikael Magnusson where
a route cache with a lower mtu info is created for a gateway route with
src addr. However, the lookup code is not able to find this route cache.

At ipv6 route dismantle, fib6_drop_pcpu_from() is responsible
for finding all percpu routes and set their ->from pointer
to NULL, so that fib6_ref can reach its expected value (1).
The problem right now is that other cpus can still catch the
route being deleted, since there is no rcu grace period
between the route deletion and call to fib6_drop_pcpu_from()
This can leak the fib6 and associated resources, since no
notifier will take care of removing the last reference(s).
I decided to add another boolean (fib6_destroying) instead
of reusing/renaming exception_bucket_flushed to ease stable backports,
and properly document the memory barriers used to implement this fix.

It is a followup after the fix in
commit 9c69a13205 ("route: Avoid crash from dereferencing NULL rt->from")
rt6_do_redirect():
1. NULL checking is needed on rt->from because a parallel
fib6_info delete could happen that sets rt->from to NULL.
(e.g. rt6_remove_exception() and fib6_drop_pcpu_from()).
2. fib6_info_hold() is not enough. Same reason as (1).
Meaning, holding dst->__refcnt cannot ensure
rt->from is not NULL or rt->from->fib6_ref is not 0.
Instead of using fib6_info_hold_safe() which ip6_rt_cache_alloc()
is already doing, this patch chooses to extend the rcu section
to keep "from" dereference-able after checking for NULL.
inet6_rtm_getroute():
1. NULL checking is also needed on rt->from for a similar reason.
Note that inet6_rtm_getroute() is using RTNL_FLAG_DOIT_UNLOCKED.

When there is no route to an IPv6 dest addr, skb_dst(skb) points
to loopback dev in the case of that the IP6CB(skb)->iif is
enslaved to a vrf. This causes Ip6InNoRoutes to be incremented on the
loopback dev. This also causes the lookup to fail on icmpv6_send() and
the dest unreachable to not sent and Ip6OutNoRoutes gets incremented on
the loopback dev.
To reproduce:
* Gateway configuration:
ip link add dev vrf_258 type vrf table 258
ip link set dev enp0s9 master vrf_258
ip addr add 66:1/64 dev enp0s9
ip -6 route add unreachable default metric 8192 table 258
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding=1
sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.enp0s9.forwarding=1
* Sender configuration:
ip addr add 66::2/64 dev enp0s9
ip -6 route add default via 66::1
and ping 67::1 for example from the sender.
Fix this by counting on the original netdev and reset the skb dst to
force a fresh lookup.
v2: Fix typo of destination address in the repro steps.
v3: Simplify the loopback check (per David Ahern) and use reverse
Christmas tree format (per David Miller).

Add options to strictly validate messages and dump messages,
sometimes perhaps validating dump messages non-strictly may
be required, so add an option for that as well.
Since none of this can really be applied to existing commands,
set the options everwhere using the following spatch:
@@
identifier ops;
expression X;
@@
struct genl_ops ops[] = {
...,
{
.cmd = X,
+ .validate = GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_STRICT | GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_DUMP,

We currently have two levels of strict validation:
1) liberal (default)
- undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
- garbage at end of message accepted
2) strict (opt-in)
- NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
Split out parsing strictness into four different options:
* TRAILING - check that there's no trailing data after parsing
attributes (in message or nested)
* MAXTYPE - reject attrs > max known type
* UNSPEC - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries
* STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size
The default for future things should be *everything*.
The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE,
and is renamed to _deprecated_strict().
The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to
*_parse_deprecated().
Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags
even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in
this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to
not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going
forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply
to the POLICY flag.
We end up with the following renames:
* nla_parse -> nla_parse_deprecated
* nla_parse_strict -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict
* nlmsg_parse -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated
* nlmsg_parse_strict -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict

For this patch, don't actually add the strict, non-renamed versions
yet so that it breaks compile if I get it wrong.
Also, while at it, make nla_validate and nla_parse go down to a
common __nla_validate_parse() function to avoid code duplication.
Ultimately, this allows us to have very strict validation for every
new caller of nla_parse()/nlmsg_parse() etc as re-introduced in the

In effect then, this adds fully strict validation for any new command.

Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most
netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not
setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers
not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's
mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display
the structure of their contents.
Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be
userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than
through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames
nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start()
as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually
are rewritten to use nla_nest_start().

nhc_flags holds the RTNH_F flags for a given nexthop (fib{6}_nh).
All of the RTNH_F_ flags fit in an unsigned char, and since the API to
userspace (rtnh_flags and lower byte of rtm_flags) is 1 byte it can not
grow. Make nhc_flags in fib_nh_common an unsigned char and shrink the
size of the struct by 8, from 56 to 48 bytes.
Update the flags arguments for up netdevice events and fib_nexthop_info
which determines the RTNH_F flags to return on a dump/event. The RTNH_F
flags are passed in the lower byte of rtm_flags which is an unsigned int
so use a temp variable for the flags to fib_nexthop_info and combine
with rtm_flags in the caller.

The SIOCGSTAMP/SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl commands are implemented by many
socket protocol handlers, and all of those end up calling the same
sock_get_timestamp()/sock_get_timestampns() helper functions, which
results in a lot of duplicate code.
With the introduction of 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures, this
gets worse, as we then need four different ioctl commands in each
socket protocol implementation.
To simplify that, let's add a new .gettstamp() operation in
struct proto_ops, and move ioctl implementation into the common
sock_ioctl()/compat_sock_ioctl_trans() functions that these all go
through.
We can reuse the sock_get_timestamp() implementation, but generalize
it so it can deal with both native and compat mode, as well as
timeval and timespec structures.

To make ICMPv6 closer to ICMPv4, add ratemask parameter. Since the ICMP
message types use larger numeric values, a simple bitmask doesn't fit.
I use large bitmap. The input and output are the in form of list of
ranges. Set the default to rate limit all error messages but Packet Too
Big. For Packet Too Big, use ratemask instead of hard-coded.
There are functions where icmpv6_xrlim_allow() and icmpv6_global_allow()
aren't called. This patch only adds them to icmpv6_echo_reply().
Rate limiting error messages is mandated by RFC 4443 but RFC 4890 says

I removed the current hard-coded behavior of icmpv6_mask_allow() that
doesn't rate limit informational messages.

A later patch allows an IPv6 gateway with an IPv4 route. The neighbor
entry will exist in the v6 ndisc table and the cached header will contain
the ipv6 protocol which is wrong for an IPv4 packet. For an IPv4 packet to
use the v6 neighbor entry, neigh_output needs to skip the cached header
and just use the output callback for the neigh entry.
A future patchset can look at expanding the hh_cache to handle 2
protocols. For now, IPv6 gateways with an IPv4 route will take the
extra overhead of generating the header.

family than the outer fib{6}_nh. To that end, replace nhc_has_gw with
nhc_gw_family and update users of nhc_has_gw to check nhc_gw_family.
Now nhc_family is used to know if the nh_common is part of a fib_nh

and nhc_gw_family represents the address family for the gateway.

This patch changes rhashtables to use a bit_spin_lock on BIT(1) of the
bucket pointer to lock the hash chain for that bucket.
The benefits of a bit spin_lock are:
- no need to allocate a separate array of locks.
- no need to have a configuration option to guide the
choice of the size of this array
- locking cost is often a single test-and-set in a cache line
that will have to be loaded anyway. When inserting at, or removing
from, the head of the chain, the unlock is free - writing the new
address in the bucket head implicitly clears the lock bit.
For __rhashtable_insert_fast() we ensure this always happens
when adding a new key.
- even when lockings costs 2 updates (lock and unlock), they are
in a cacheline that needs to be read anyway.
The cost of using a bit spin_lock is a little bit of code complexity,
which I think is quite manageable.
Bit spin_locks are sometimes inappropriate because they are not fair -
if multiple CPUs repeatedly contend of the same lock, one CPU can
easily be starved. This is not a credible situation with rhashtable.
Multiple CPUs may want to repeatedly add or remove objects, but they
will typically do so at different buckets, so they will attempt to
acquire different locks.
As we have more bit-locks than we previously had spinlocks (by at
least a factor of two) we can expect slightly less contention to
go with the slightly better cache behavior and reduced memory
consumption.
To enhance type checking, a new struct is introduced to represent the
pointer plus lock-bit
that is stored in the bucket-table. This is "struct rhash_lock_head"
and is empty. A pointer to this needs to be cast to either an
unsigned lock, or a "struct rhash_head *" to be useful.
Variables of this type are most often called "bkt".
Previously "pprev" would sometimes point to a bucket, and sometimes a
->next pointer in an rhash_head. As these are now different types,
pprev is NULL when it would have pointed to the bucket. In that case,
'blk' is used, together with correct locking protocol.

it should be removed from validate_tmpl().
And, IPSEC_PROTO_ANY is expected to only match 3 IPSec-specific
protocols, this is why xfrm_state_flush() could still miss
IPPROTO_ROUTING, which leads that those entries are left in
net->xfrm.state_all before exit net. Fix this by replacing
IPSEC_PROTO_ANY with zero.
This patch also extracts the check from validate_tmpl() to
xfrm_id_proto_valid() and uses it in parse_ipsecrequest().
With this, no other protocols should be added into xfrm.

Often times, recvmsg() system calls and BH handling for a particular
TCP socket are done on different cpus.
This means the incoming skb had to be allocated on a cpu,
but freed on another.
This incurs a high spinlock contention in slab layer for small rpc,
but also a high number of cache line ping pongs for larger packets.
A full size GRO packet might use 45 page fragments, meaning
that up to 45 put_page() can be involved.
More over performing the __kfree_skb() in the recvmsg() context
adds a latency for user applications, and increase probability
of trapping them in backlog processing, since the BH handler
might found the socket owned by the user.
This patch, combined with the prior one increases the rpc
performance by about 10 % on servers with large number of cores.
(tcp_rr workload with 10,000 flows and 112 threads reach 9 Mpps
instead of 8 Mpps)
This also increases single bulk flow performance on 40Gbit+ links,
since in this case there are often two cpus working in tandem :
- CPU handling the NIC rx interrupts, feeding the receive queue,
and (after this patch) freeing the skbs that were consumed.
- CPU in recvmsg() system call, essentially 100 % busy copying out
data to user space.
Having at most one skb in a per-socket cache has very little risk
of memory exhaustion, and since it is protected by socket lock,
its management is essentially free.
Note that if rps/rfs is used, we do not enable this feature, because
there is high chance that the same cpu is handling both the recvmsg()
system call and the TCP rx path, but that another cpu did the skb
allocations in the device driver right before the RPS/RFS logic.
To properly handle this case, it seems we would need to record
on which cpu skb was allocated, and use a different channel
to give skbs back to this cpu.

Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely,
so make it common as well.
The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy
is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's
still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but
we can fake it using pre_doit.
This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands):
text data bss dec hex filename
398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before)
397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after)
--------------------------------
-832 +8 0 -824
Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8
bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is
counted as .text though.
Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch:
@ops@
identifier OPS;
expression POLICY;
@@
struct genl_ops OPS[] = {
...,
{
- .policy = POLICY,
},
...
};
@@
identifier ops.OPS;
expression ops.POLICY;
identifier fam;
expression M;
@@
struct genl_family fam = {
.ops = OPS,
.maxattr = M,
+ .policy = POLICY,
...
};
This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing
the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch.

Change addrconf_f6i_alloc to generate a fib6_config and call
ip6_route_info_create. addrconf_f6i_alloc is the last caller to
fib6_info_alloc besides ip6_route_info_create, and there is no
reason for it to do its own initialization on a fib6_info.
Host routes need to be created even if the device is down, so add a
new flag, fc_ignore_dev_down, to fib6_config and update fib6_nh_init
to not error out if device is not up.
Notes on the conversion:
- ip_fib_metrics_init is the same as fib6_config has fc_mx set to NULL
and fc_mx_len set to 0
- dst_nocount is handled by the RTF_ADDRCONF flag
- dst_host is handled by fc_dst_len = 128
nh_gw does not get set after the conversion to ip6_route_info_create
but it should not be set in addrconf_f6i_alloc since this is a host
route not a gateway route.
Everything else is a straight forward map between fib6_info and
fib6_config.

assume preemption is disabled when incrementing the counter and

Preemption can be enabled when we add a route in process context that

forwarded using this route [1].
Fix this by using IP6_INC_STATS() which takes care of disabling
preemption on architectures where it is needed.

When a netdevice is unregistered, we flush the relevant exception
via rt6_sync_down_dev() -> fib6_ifdown() -> fib6_del() -> fib6_del_route().
Finally, we end-up calling rt6_remove_exception(), where we release
the relevant dst, while we keep the references to the related fib6_info and
dev. Such references should be released later when the dst will be
destroyed.
There are a number of caches that can keep the exception around for an

changes.
However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.
On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks. Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.
What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU. I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

Some protocols have other means to verify the payload integrity
(AH, ESP, SCTP) while others are incompatible with nf_ip(6)_checksum

to validate the packets, ip(6)tables REJECT rules were not capable

Commit 508b09046c ("netfilter: ipv6: Preserve link scope traffic

link-local and multicast packets. However, it also affected packets
for the loopback address because it used rt6_need_strict().
REDIRECT rules in the OUTPUT chain rewrite the destination to loopback
address; thus its oif should not be preserved. This commit fixes the bug
that redirected local packets are being dropped. Actually the packet was
not exactly dropped; Instead it was sent out to the original oif rather
than lo. When a packet with daddr ::1 is sent to the router, it is
effectively dropped.

xfrm_state_put() moves struct xfrm_state to the GC list
and schedules the GC work to clean it up. On net exit call
path, xfrm_state_flush() is called to clean up and
xfrm_flush_gc() is called to wait for the GC work to complete
before exit.
However, this doesn't work because one of the ->destructor(),
ipcomp_destroy(), schedules the same GC work again inside
the GC work. It is hard to wait for such a nested async
callback. This is also why syzbot still reports the following
warning:
WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 33 at net/ipv6/xfrm6_tunnel.c:351 xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit+0x2cb/0x500 net/ipv6/xfrm6_tunnel.c:351

In fact, it is perfectly fine to bypass GC and destroy xfrm_state
synchronously on net exit call path, because it is in process context
and doesn't need a work struct to do any blocking work.
This patch introduces xfrm_state_put_sync() which simply bypasses
GC, and lets its callers to decide whether to use this synchronous
version. On net exit path, xfrm_state_fini() and
xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit() use it. And, as ipcomp_destroy() itself is
blocking, it can use xfrm_state_put_sync() directly too.
Also rename xfrm_state_gc_destroy() to ___xfrm_state_destroy() to
reflect this change.

When the MC route socket is closed, mroute_clean_tables() is called to
cleanup existing routes. Mistakenly notifiers call was put on the cleanup
of the unresolved MC route entries cache.
In a case where the MC socket closes before an unresolved route expires,
the notifier call leads to a crash, caused by the driver trying to
increment a non initialized refcount_t object [1] and then when handling
is done, to decrement it [2]. This was detected by a test recently added in
commit 6d4efada3b ("selftests: forwarding: Add multicast routing test").
Fix that by putting notifiers call on the resolved entries traversal,
instead of on the unresolved entries traversal.

Instead of using pingpong as a single bit information, we refactor the
code to treat it as a counter. When interactive session is detected,
we set pingpong count to TCP_PINGPONG_THRESH. And when pingpong count
is >= TCP_PINGPONG_THRESH, we consider the session in pingpong mode.
This patch is a pure refactor and sets foundation for the next patch.
This patch itself does not change any pingpong logic.

This message gets logged far too often for how interesting is it.
Most distributions nowadays configure NetworkManager to use randomly
generated MAC addresses for Wi-Fi network scans. The interfaces end up
being periodically brought down for the address change. When they're
subsequently brought back up, the message is logged, eventually flooding
the log.
Perhaps the message is not all that helpful: it seems to be more
interesting to hear when the addrconf actually start, not when it does
not. Let's lower its level.

When multiple multicast routers are present in a broadcast domain then
only one of them will be detectable via IGMP/MLD query snooping. The
multicast router with the lowest IP address will become the selected and
active querier while all other multicast routers will then refrain from
sending queries.
To detect such rather silent multicast routers, too, RFC4286
("Multicast Router Discovery") provides a standardized protocol to
detect multicast routers for multicast snooping switches.
This patch implements the necessary MRD Advertisement message parsing
and after successful processing adds such routers to the internal
multicast router list.

This patch refactors ip_mc_check_igmp(), ipv6_mc_check_mld() and
their callers (more precisely, the Linux bridge) to not rely on
the skb_trimmed parameter anymore.
An skb with its tail trimmed to the IP packet length was initially
introduced for the following three reasons:
1) To be able to verify the ICMPv6 checksum.
2) To be able to distinguish the version of an IGMP or MLD query.
They are distinguishable only by their size.
3) To avoid parsing data for an IGMPv3 or MLDv2 report that is
beyond the IP packet but still within the skb.
The first case still uses a cloned and potentially trimmed skb to
verfiy. However, there is no need to propagate it to the caller.
For the second and third case explicit IP packet length checks were
added.
This hopefully makes ip_mc_check_igmp() and ipv6_mc_check_mld() easier
to read and verfiy, as well as easier to use.

There have been many people complaining about the inconsistent
behaviors of IPv4 and IPv6 devconf when creating new network

from init_net, but for IPv6 we reset all setting to default.
This patch introduces a new /proc file
/proc/sys/net/core/devconf_inherit_init_net to control the
behavior of whether to inhert sysctl current settings from init_net.
This file itself is only available in init_net.
As demonstrated below:
Initial setup in init_net:
# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter

# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/accept_dad

# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter
2
# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/accept_dad

# ip netns add test
# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter

sys_sendmsg has supported unspecified destination IPv6 (wildcard) for
unconnected UDP sockets since 876c7f41. When [::] is passed by user as
destination, sys_sendmsg rewrites it with [::1] to be consistent with
BSD (see "BSD'ism" comment in the code).
This didn't work when cgroup-bpf was enabled though since the rewrite
[::] -> [::1] happened before passing control to cgroup-bpf block where
fl6.daddr was updated with passed by user sockaddr_in6.sin6_addr (that
might or might not be changed by BPF program). That way if user passed
[::] as dst IPv6 it was first rewritten with [::1] by original code from
876c7f41, but then rewritten back with [::] by cgroup-bpf block.
It happened even when BPF_CGROUP_UDP6_SENDMSG program was not present
(CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y was enough).
The fix is to apply BSD'ism after cgroup-bpf block so that [::] is
replaced with [::1] no matter where it came from: passed by user to
sys_sendmsg or set by BPF_CGROUP_UDP6_SENDMSG program.

AF_INET6/RTM_GETADDR.
Before this commit, the kernel would stop dumping addresses once the first
skb was full and end the stream with NLMSG_DONE(-EMSGSIZE). The error
shouldn't be sent back to netlink_dump so the callback is kept alive. The
userspace is expected to call back with a new empty skb.

- The error is not handled in netlink_dump anymore but rather in

IPv6 does not consider if the socket is bound to a device when binding
to an address. The result is that a socket can be bound to eth0 and then
bound to the address of eth1. If the device is a VRF, the result is that
a socket can only be bound to an address in the default VRF.
Resolve by considering the device if sk_bound_dev_if is set.

In ip6_neigh_lookup(), we must not return errors coming from
neigh_create(): if creation of a neighbour entry fails, the lookup should
return NULL, in the same way as it's done in __neigh_lookup().
Otherwise, callers legitimately checking for a non-NULL return value of
the lookup function might dereference an invalid pointer.
For instance, on neighbour table overflow, ndisc_router_discovery()
crashes ndisc_update() by passing ERR_PTR(-ENOBUFS) as 'neigh' argument.

Minor changes:

as dev_kfree_skb calls consume_skb which is not for error paths.
- use pskb_network_may_pull even though that is pedantic here,

For net-next, it looks different as we have cfg->bind_ifindex there

This adds an optional extension infrastructure, with ispec (xfrm) and
bridge netfilter as first users.
objdiff shows no changes if kernel is built without xfrm and br_netfilter
support.
The third (planned future) user is Multipath TCP which is still
out-of-tree.
MPTCP needs to map logical mptcp sequence numbers to the tcp sequence
numbers used by individual subflows.
This DSS mapping is read/written from tcp option space on receive and
written to tcp option space on transmitted tcp packets that are part of
and MPTCP connection.
Extending skb_shared_info or adding a private data field to skb fclones
doesn't work for incoming skb, so a different DSS propagation method would
be required for the receive side.
mptcp has same requirements as secpath/bridge netfilter:
1. extension memory is released when the sk_buff is free'd.
2. data is shared after cloning an skb (clone inherits extension)
3. adding extension to an skb will COW the extension buffer if needed.
The "MPTCP upstreaming" effort adds SKB_EXT_MPTCP extension to store the
mapping for tx and rx processing.
Two new members are added to sk_buff:
1. 'active_extensions' byte (filling a hole), telling which extensions
are available for this skb.
This has two purposes.
a) avoids the need to initialize the pointer.
b) allows to "delete" an extension by clearing its bit
value in ->active_extensions.
While it would be possible to store the active_extensions byte
in the extension struct instead of sk_buff, there is one problem
with this:
When an extension has to be disabled, we can always clear the
bit in skb->active_extensions. But in case it would be stored in the
extension buffer itself, we might have to COW it first, if
we are dealing with a cloned skb. On kmalloc failure we would
be unable to turn an extension off.
2. extension pointer, located at the end of the sk_buff.
If the active_extensions byte is 0, the pointer is undefined,
it is not initialized on skb allocation.
This adds extra code to skb clone and free paths (to deal with
refcount/free of extension area) but this replaces similar code that
manages skb->nf_bridge and skb->sp structs in the followup patches of
the series.
It is possible to add support for extensions that are not preseved on
clones/copies.
To do this, it would be needed to define a bitmask of all extensions that
need copy/cow semantics, and change __skb_ext_copy() to check
->active_extensions & SKB_EXT_PRESERVE_ON_CLONE, then just set
->active_extensions to 0 on the new clone.
This isn't done here because all extensions that get added here
need the copy/cow semantics.
v2:
Allocate entire extension space using kmem_cache.
Upside is that this allows better tracking of used memory,
downside is that we will allocate more space than strictly needed in
most cases (its unlikely that all extensions are active/needed at same
time for same skb).
The allocated memory (except the small extension header) is not cleared,
so no additonal overhead aside from memory usage.
Avoid atomic_dec_and_test operation on skb_ext_put()
by using similar trick as kfree_skbmem() does with fclone_ref:
If recount is 1, there is no concurrent user and we can free right away.

like to add a "catch all" listener on addr_any, to match incoming

Several conflicts, seemingly all over the place.
I used Stephen Rothwell's sample resolutions for many of these, if not
just to double check my own work, so definitely the credit largely
goes to him.
The NFP conflict consisted of a bug fix (moving operations
past the rhashtable operation) while chaning the initial
argument in the function call in the moved code.
The net/dsa/master.c conflict had to do with a bug fix intermixing of
making dsa_master_set_mtu() static with the fixing of the tagging
attribute location.
cls_flower had a conflict because the dup reject fix from Or
overlapped with the addition of port range classifiction.
__set_phy_supported()'s conflict was relatively easy to resolve
because Andrew fixed it in both trees, so it was just a matter
of taking the net-next copy. Or at least I think it was :-)
Joe Stringer's fix to the handling of netns id 0 in bpf_sk_lookup()
intermixed with changes on how the sdif and caller_net are calculated
in these code paths in net-next.
The remaining BPF conflicts were largely about the addition of the
__bpf_md_ptr stuff in 'net' overlapping with adjustments and additions
to the relevant data structure where the MD pointer macros are used.

Even if we send an IPv6 packet without options, MAX_HEADER might not be
enough to account for the additional headroom required by alignment of
hardware headers.
On a configuration without HYPERV_NET, WLAN, AX25, and with IPV6_TUNNEL,
sending short SCTP packets over IPv4 over L2TP over IPv6, we start with
100 bytes of allocated headroom in sctp_packet_transmit(), end up with 54
bytes after l2tp_xmit_skb(), and 14 bytes in ip6_finish_output2().
Those would be enough to append our 14 bytes header, but we're going to
align that to 16 bytes, and write 2 bytes out of the allocated slab in
neigh_hh_output().

In order to pass extack together with NETDEV_PRE_UP notifications, it's
necessary to route the extack to __dev_open() from diverse (possibly
indirect) callers. One prominent API through which the notification is
invoked is dev_open().
Therefore extend dev_open() with and extra extack argument and update
all users. Most of the calls end up just encoding NULL, but bond and
team drivers have the extack readily available.

The *_frag_reasm() functions are susceptible to miscalculating the byte
count of packet fragments in case the truesize of a head buffer changes.
The truesize member may be changed by the call to skb_unclone(), leaving
the fragment memory limit counter unbalanced even if all fragments are
processed. This miscalculation goes unnoticed as long as the network
namespace which holds the counter is not destroyed.
Should an attempt be made to destroy a network namespace that holds an
unbalanced fragment memory limit counter the cleanup of the namespace
never finishes. The thread handling the cleanup gets stuck in
inet_frags_exit_net() waiting for the percpu counter to reach zero. The
thread is usually in running state with a stacktrace similar to:

With MSG_ZEROCOPY, each skb holds a reference to a struct ubuf_info.
Release of its last reference triggers a completion notification.
The TCP stack in tcp_sendmsg_locked holds an extra ref independent of
the skbs, because it can build, send and free skbs within its loop,
possibly reaching refcount zero and freeing the ubuf_info too soon.
The UDP stack currently also takes this extra ref, but does not need
it as all skbs are sent after return from __ip(6)_append_data.
Avoid the extra refcount_inc and refcount_dec_and_test, and generally
the sock_zerocopy_put in the common path, by passing the initial
reference to the first skb.
This approach is taken instead of initializing the refcount to 0, as
that would generate error "refcount_t: increment on 0" on the
next skb_zcopy_set.

In ip packet generation, pagedlen is initialized for each skb at the
start of the loop in __ip(6)_append_data, before label alloc_new_skb.
Depending on compiler options, code can be generated that jumps to

When we add a new IPv6 address, we should also join corresponding solicited-node
multicast address, unless the interface has IFF_NOARP flag, as function
addrconf_join_solict() did. But if we remove IFF_NOARP flag later, we do
not do dad and add the mcast address. So we will drop corresponding neighbour
discovery message that came from other nodes.
A typical example is after creating a ipvlan with mode l3, setting up an ipv6
address and changing the mode to l2. Then we will not be able to ping this
address as the interface doesn't join related solicited-node mcast address.
Fix it by re-doing dad when interface changed IFF_NOARP flag. Then we will add
corresponding mcast group and check if there is a duplicate address on the
network.

As the destination port in FoU and GUE receiving sockets doesn't
necessarily match the remote destination port, we can't associate errors
to the encapsulating tunnels with a socket lookup -- we need to blindly
try them instead. This means we don't even know if we are handling errors
for FoU or GUE without digging into the packets.
Hence, implement a single handler for both, one for IPv4 and one for IPv6,
that will check whether the packet that generated the ICMP error used a
direct IP encapsulation or if it had a GUE header, and send the error to
the matching protocol handler, if any.

ICMP error handling is currently not possible for UDP tunnels not
employing a receiving socket with local destination port matching the
remote one, because we have no way to look them up.
Add an err_handler tunnel encapsulation operation that can be exported by
tunnels in order to pass the error to the protocol implementing the
encapsulation. We can't easily use a lookup function as we did for VXLAN
and GENEVE, as protocol error handlers, which would be in turn called by
implementations of this new operation, handle the errors themselves,
together with the tunnel lookup.
Without a socket, we can't be sure which encapsulation error handler is
the appropriate one: encapsulation handlers (the ones for FoU and GUE
introduced in the next patch, e.g.) will need to check the new error codes
returned by protocol handlers to figure out if errors match the given
encapsulation, and, in turn, report this error back, so that we can try
all of them in __udp{4,6}_lib_err_encap_no_sk() until we have a match.

We'll need this to handle ICMP errors for tunnels without a sending socket
(i.e. FoU and GUE). There, we might have to look up different types of IP
tunnels, registered as network protocols, before we get a match, so we
want this for the error handlers of IPPROTO_IPIP and IPPROTO_IPV6 in both
inet_protos and inet6_protos. These error codes will be used in the next
patch.
For consistency, return sensible error codes in protocol error handlers
whenever handlers can't handle errors because, even if valid, they don't
match a protocol or any of its states.

For both IPv4 and IPv6, if we can't match errors to a socket, try
tunnels before ignoring them. Look up a socket with the original source
and destination ports as found in the UDP packet inside the ICMP payload,
this will work for tunnels that force the same destination port for both
endpoints, i.e. VXLAN and GENEVE.
Actually, lwtunnels could break this assumption if they are configured by
an external control plane to have different destination ports on the
endpoints: in this case, we won't be able to trace ICMP messages back to
them.
For IPv6 redirect messages, call ip6_redirect() directly with the output
interface argument set to the interface we received the packet from (as
it's the very interface we should build the exception on), otherwise the
new nexthop will be rejected. There's no such need for IPv4.
Tunnels can now export an encap_err_lookup() operation that indicates a
match. Pass the packet to the lookup function, and if the tunnel driver
reports a matching association, continue with regular ICMP error handling.

This patch tries to address the issue explicitly checking for the UDP

If link-local packets are marked as enslaved to a VRF, then to allow
ping to the link-local from a vrf, the error handling for IPV6_PKTINFO
needs to be relaxed to also allow the pkt ipi6_ifindex to be that of a
slave device to the vrf.
Note that the real device also needs to be retrieved in icmp6_iif()
to set the ipv6 flow oif to this for icmp echo reply handling. The
recent commit 24b711edfc ("net/ipv6: Fix linklocal to global address
with VRF") takes care of this, so the sdif does not need checking here.
This fix makes ping to link-local consistent with that to global
addresses, in that this can now be done from within the same VRF that
the address is in.

When there exist a pair of raw sockets one unbound and one bound
to a VRF but equal in all other respects, when a packet is received
in the VRF context, __raw_v4_lookup() matches on both sockets.
This results in the packet being delivered over both sockets,
instead of only the raw socket bound to the VRF. The bound device
checks in __raw_v4_lookup() are replaced with a call to
raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which correctly handles whether the packet
should be delivered over the unbound socket in such cases.
In __raw_v6_lookup() the match on the device binding of the socket is
similarly updated to use raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which matches the
handling in __raw_v4_lookup().
Importantly raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() takes the raw_l3mdev_accept sysctl
into account.

Ensure an unbound datagram skt is chosen when not in a VRF. The check
for a device match in compute_score() for UDP must be performed when
there is no device match. For this, a failure is returned when there is
no device match. This ensures that bound sockets are never selected,
even if there is no unbound socket.
Allow IPv6 packets to be sent over a datagram skt bound to a VRF. These
packets are currently blocked, as flowi6_oif was set to that of the
master vrf device, and the ipi6_ifindex is that of the slave device.
Allow these packets to be sent by checking the device with ipi6_ifindex
has the same L3 scope as that of the bound device of the skt, which is
the master vrf device. Note that this check always succeeds if the skt
is unbound.
Even though the right datagram skt is now selected by compute_score(),
a different skt is being returned that is bound to the wrong vrf. The
difference between these and stream sockets is the handling of the skt
option for SO_REUSEPORT. While the handling when adding a skt for reuse
correctly checks that the bound device of the skt is a match, the skts
in the hashslot are already incorrect. So for the same hash, a skt for
the wrong vrf may be selected for the required port. The root cause is
that the skt is immediately placed into a slot when it is created,
but when the skt is then bound using SO_BINDTODEVICE, it remains in the
same slot. The solution is to move the skt to the correct slot by
forcing a rehash.

By checking for a device match in compute_score() also for the case

interfaces. Every time it’s called, it has to verify that the source
address does not correspond to an existing anycast address by looping

result in significant delays for a CPU when there are a large number of

Commit a61bbcf28a ("[NET]: Store skb->timestamp as offset to a base

ndisc_rcv(), as ndisc_recv_ns() uses it.
Commit f2776ff047 ("[IPV6]: Fix address/interface handling in UDP and
DCCP, according to the scoping architecture.") introduces the usage of the
IPv6 control buffer in protocol error handlers (e.g. inet6_iif() in
present-day __udp6_lib_err()).
Now, with commit b94f1c0904 ("ipv6: Use icmpv6_notify() to propagate
redirect, instead of rt6_redirect()."), we call protocol error handlers
from ndisc_redirect_rcv(), after the control buffer is already stolen and
some parts are already zeroed out. This implies that inet6_iif() on this
path will always return zero.
This gives unexpected results on UDP socket lookup in __udp6_lib_err(), as
we might actually need to match sockets for a given interface.
Instead of always claiming the control buffer in ndisc_rcv(), do that only
when needed.

Current handling of CHECKSUM_COMPLETE packets by the UDP stack is
incorrect for any packet that has an incorrect checksum value.
udp4/6_csum_init() will both make a call to
__skb_checksum_validate_complete() to initialize/validate the csum
field when receiving a CHECKSUM_COMPLETE packet. When this packet
fails validation, skb->csum will be overwritten with the pseudoheader
checksum so the packet can be fully validated by software, but the
skb->ip_summed value will be left as CHECKSUM_COMPLETE so that way
the stack can later warn the user about their hardware spewing bad
checksums. Unfortunately, leaving the SKB in this state can cause
problems later on in the checksum calculation.
Since the the packet is still marked as CHECKSUM_COMPLETE,
udp_csum_pull_header() will SUBTRACT the checksum of the UDP header
from skb->csum instead of adding it, leaving us with a garbage value
in that field. Once we try to copy the packet to userspace in the
udp4/6_recvmsg(), we'll make a call to skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_msg()
to checksum the packet data and add it in the garbage skb->csum value
to perform our final validation check.
Since the value we're validating is not the proper checksum, it's possible
that the folded value could come out to 0, causing us not to drop the
packet. Instead, we believe that the packet was checksummed incorrectly
by hardware since skb->ip_summed is still CHECKSUM_COMPLETE, and we attempt
to warn the user with netdev_rx_csum_fault(skb->dev);
Unfortunately, since this is the UDP path, skb->dev has been overwritten
by skb->dev_scratch and is no longer a valid pointer, so we end up
reading invalid memory.
This patch addresses this problem in two ways:
1) Do not use the dev pointer when calling netdev_rx_csum_fault()
from skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_msg(). Since this gets called
from the UDP path where skb->dev has been overwritten, we have
no way of knowing if the pointer is still valid. Also for the
sake of consistency with the other uses of
netdev_rx_csum_fault(), don't attempt to call it if the
packet was checksummed by software.
2) Add better CHECKSUM_COMPLETE handling to udp4/6_csum_init().
If we receive a packet that's CHECKSUM_COMPLETE that fails
verification (i.e. skb->csum_valid == 0), check who performed
the calculation. It's possible that the checksum was done in
software by the network stack earlier (such as Netfilter's
CONNTRACK module), and if that says the checksum is bad,
we can drop the packet immediately instead of waiting until
we try and copy it to userspace. Otherwise, we need to
mark the SKB as CHECKSUM_NONE, since the skb->csum field
no longer contains the full packet checksum after the
call to __skb_checksum_validate_complete().

When a link's carrier goes down it could be a sign of the port changing
networks. If the new network has overlapping addresses with the old one,
then the kernel will continue trying to use neighbor entries established
based on the old network until the entries finally age out - meaning a
potentially long delay with communications not working.
This patch evicts neighbor entries on carrier down with the exception of
those marked permanent. Permanent entries are managed by userspace (either

Another difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is the generation of RTM_DELROUTE
notifications when a device is taken down (admin down) or deleted. IPv4
does not generate a message for routes evicted by the down or delete;
IPv6 does. A NOS at scale really needs to avoid these messages and have
IPv4 and IPv6 behave similarly, relying on userspace to handle link
notifications and evict the routes.
At this point existing user behavior needs to be preserved. Since
notifications are a global action (not per app) the only way to preserve
existing behavior and allow the messages to be skipped is to add a new
sysctl (net/ipv6/route/skip_notify_on_dev_down) which can be set to
disable the notificatioons.
IPv6 route code already supports the option to skip the message (it is
used for multipath routes for example). Besides the new sysctl we need
to pass the skip_notify setting through the generic fib6_clean and
fib6_walk functions to fib6_clean_node and to set skip_notify on calls
to __ip_del_rt for the addrconf_ifdown path.
