Commit 18996f2db9 ("ACPICA: Events: Stop unconditionally clearing
ACPI IRQs during suspend/resume") was added to stop clearing event
status bits unconditionally in the system-wide suspend and resume
paths. This was done because of an issue with a laptop lid appaering
to be closed even when it was used to wake up the system from suspend
(see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196249), which
happened because event status bits were cleared unconditionally on
system resume. Though this change fixed the issue in the resume path,
it introduced regressions in a few suspend paths.
First regression was reported and fixed in the S5 entry path by commit
fa85015c0d ("ACPICA: Clear status of all events when entering S5").
Next regression was reported and fixed for all legacy sleep paths by
commit f317c7dc12 ("ACPICA: Clear status of all events when entering
sleep states"). However, there still is a suspend-to-idle regression,
since suspend-to-idle does not follow the legacy sleep paths.
In the suspend-to-idle case, wakeup is enabled as part of device
suspend. If the status bits of wakeup GPEs are set when they are
enabled, it causes a premature system wakeup to occur.
To address that problem, partially revert commit 18996f2db9 to
restore GPE status bits clearing before the GPE is enabled in
acpi_ev_enable_gpe().

Subsequent code treats button_device_ids[] entries differently, and

Add comments to identify the power button, lid, and sleep button

acpi_bus_extract_wakeup_device_power_package() is a static function
with a single caller that supplies (device->handle, &device->wakeup).
Simplify the interface so the caller need only supply "device".
This makes it obvious that "wakeup", i.e., &device->wakeup, can never
be NULL, so remove the unnecessary check for that.

As per the ACPI specification, "Guaranteed Performance Register" is
a "Buffer" field and it cannot be "Integer", so treat the "Integer"
type for "Guaranteed Performance Register" field as invalid and
ignore its value in that case.
Also save one cpc_read() call when "Guaranteed Performance Register"
is not present, which means a register defined as:
"Register(SystemMemory, 0, 0, 0, 0)".

Merge tag 'devdax-for-5.1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm
Pull device-dax updates from Dan Williams:
"New device-dax infrastructure to allow persistent memory and other
"reserved" / performance differentiated memories, to be assigned to
the core-mm as "System RAM".
Some users want to use persistent memory as additional volatile
memory. They are willing to cope with potential performance
differences, for example between DRAM and 3D Xpoint, and want to use
typical Linux memory management apis rather than a userspace memory
allocator layered over an mmap() of a dax file. The administration
model is to decide how much Persistent Memory (pmem) to use as System
RAM, create a device-dax-mode namespace of that size, and then assign
it to the core-mm. The rationale for device-dax is that it is a
generic memory-mapping driver that can be layered over any "special
purpose" memory, not just pmem. On subsequent boots udev rules can be
used to restore the memory assignment.
One implication of using pmem as RAM is that mlock() no longer keeps
data off persistent media. For this reason it is recommended to enable
NVDIMM Security (previously merged for 5.0) to encrypt pmem contents
at rest. We considered making this recommendation an actively enforced
requirement, but in the end decided to leave it as a distribution /
administrator policy to allow for emulation and test environments that
lack security capable NVDIMMs.
Summary:
- Replace the /sys/class/dax device model with /sys/bus/dax, and
include a compat driver so distributions can opt-in to the new ABI.
- Allow for an alternative driver for the device-dax address-range
- Introduce the 'kmem' driver to hotplug / assign a device-dax
address-range to the core-mm.
- Arrange for the device-dax target-node to be onlined so that the
newly added memory range can be uniquely referenced by numa apis"
NOTE! I'm not entirely happy with the whole "PMEM as RAM" model because
we currently have special - and very annoying rules in the kernel about
accessing PMEM only with the "MC safe" accessors, because machine checks
inside the regular repeat string copy functions can be fatal in some
(not described) circumstances.
And apparently the PMEM modules can cause that a lot more than regular
RAM. The argument is that this happens because PMEM doesn't necessarily
get scrubbed at boot like RAM does, but that is planned to be added for
the user space tooling.
Quoting Dan from another email:
"The exposure can be reduced in the volatile-RAM case by scanning for
and clearing errors before it is onlined as RAM. The userspace tooling
for that can be in place before v5.1-final. There's also runtime
notifications of errors via acpi_nfit_uc_error_notify() from
background scrubbers on the DIMM devices. With that mechanism the
kernel could proactively clear newly discovered poison in the volatile
case, but that would be additional development more suitable for v5.2.
I understand the concern, and the need to highlight this issue by
tapping the brakes on feature development, but I don't see PMEM as RAM
making the situation worse when the exposure is also there via DAX in
the PMEM case. Volatile-RAM is arguably a safer use case since it's
possible to repair pages where the persistent case needs active
application coordination"

have some core framework changes too.
In the core framework, we introduce support for a clk_get_optional() API
to get clks that may not always be populated and a way to devm manage clkdev
lookups registered by provider drivers. We also do some refactoring to simplify
the interface between clkdev and the common clk framework so we can reuse the DT
parsing and clk_get() path in provider drivers in the future. This work will
continue in the next few cycles while we convert how providers specify clk
parents.

that got support for the G12A SoC. It dominates with almost half the overall

and Qualcomm drivers rounding out the big part of the dirstat because they both
got new hardware support for SoCs. The rest is just various updates and non-critical
fixes for existing drivers.

"libnvdimm-start-pad" topic has been truncated to just cleanups and
small fixes. The full topic branch would have doubled down on hacks
around the "section alignment" limitation of the core-mm, instead
effort is now being spent to address that root issue in the memory
hotplug implementation for v5.2.
- Fix nfit-bus command submission regression
- Support retrieval of short-ARS results if the ARS state is
"requires continuation", and even if the "no_init_ars" module
parameter is specified
- Allow busy-polling of the kernel ARS state by allowing root to
reset the exponential back-off timer
- Filter potentially stale ARS results by tracking query-ARS relative
to the previous start-ARS
- Enhance dax_device alignment checks
- Add support for the Hyper-V family of device-specific-methods
(DSMs)
- Add several fixes and workarounds for Hyper-V compatibility
- Fix support to cache the dirty-shutdown-count at init"

The return value of get_status() is passed to user space on errors,
so it should not return acpi_status values then. Make it return
error values that are meaningful for user space instead.
This also makes a Clang warning regarding the initialization of a
local variable in get_status() go away.

In the PRP0001 case, the compatible string may have additional data
affiliated with the device. When we call device_get_match_data() on
such device, we will get nothing since currently
acpi_device_get_match_data() doesn't respect PRP0001.
To fix the above, try acpi_of_match_device() if there is no ACPI
table in the driver.
Anyway, note that the device is expected to get its own proper
ACPI ID.

ACPICA commit a4849944e80f97970e99843f4975850753584a4e
This change adds PCC operation region support in the AML interpreter
and a default handler for acpiexec. According to the specification,
the PCC operation region performs a transaction when the COMD field
is written. This allows ASL to write data to other fields before
sending the data.
In order to accommodate this protocol, a temorary buffer is added
to the regionfield object to accumulate writes. If any offset that
spans COMD is written, the temporary buffer is sent to the PCC
operation region handler to be processed.
This change also renames the PCC keyword to platform_comm_channel.

ACPICA commit 47f5607c204719d9239a12b889df725225098c8f
Module-level code refers to executable ASL code that runs during
table load. This is typically used in ASL to declare named objects
based on a condition evaluated during table load like so:
definition_block(...)
{
opreation_region (OPR1, system_memory, ...)
Field (OPR1)
{
FLD1, 8 /* Assume that FLD1's value is 0x1 */
}
/* The if statement below is referred to as module-level code */
If (FLD1)
{
/* Declare DEV1 conditionally */
Device (DEV1) {...}
}
Device (DEV2)
{
...
}
}
In legacy module-level code, the execution of the If statement
was deferred after other modules were loaded. The order of
code execution for the table above is the following:
1.) Load OPR1 to the ACPI Namespace
2.) Load FLD1 to the ACPI Namespace (not intended for drivers)
3.) Load DEV2 to the ACPI Namespace
4.) Execute If (FLD1) and load DEV1 if the condition is true
This legacy approach can be problematic for tables that look like the
following:
definition_block(...)
{
opreation_region (OPR1, system_memory, ...)
Field (OPR1)
{
FLD1, 8 /* Assume that FLD1's value is 0x1 */
}
/* The if statement below is referred to as module-level code */
If (FLD1)
{
/* Declare DEV1 conditionally */
Device (DEV1) {...}
}
Scope (DEV1)
{
/* Add objects DEV1's scope */
Name (OBJ1, 0x1234)
}
}
When loading this in the legacy approach, Scope DEV1 gets evaluated
before the If statement. The following is the order of execution:
1.) Load OPR1 to the ACPI Namespace
2.) Load FLD1 to the ACPI Namespace (not intended for drivers)
3.) Add OBJ1 under DEV1's scope -- ERROR. DEV1 does not exist
4.) Execute If (FLD1) and load DEV1 if the condition is true
The legacy approach can never succeed for tables like this due to the
deferral of the module-level code. Due to this limitation, a new
module-level code was developed. This new approach exeutes if
statements in the order that they appear in the definition block.
With this approach, the order of execution for the above defintion
block is as follows:
1.) Load OPR1 to the ACPI Namespace
2.) Load FLD1 to the ACPI Namespace (not intended for drivers)
3.) Execute If (FLD1) and load DEV1 because the condition is true
4.) Add OBJ1 under DEV1's scope.
Since DEV1 is loaded in the namespace in step 3, step 4 executes
successfully.
This change removes support for the legacy module-level code
execution. From this point onward, the new module-level code
execution will be the official approach.

Commit 53fa1f6e8a ("ACPI / video: Only default only_lcd to true on
Win8-ready _desktops_") introduced chassis type detection, limiting the
lcd_only check for the backlight to devices where the chassis-type
indicates their is no builtin LCD panel.
The purpose of the lcd_only check is to avoid advertising a backlight
interface on desktops, since skylake and newer machines seem to always
have a backlight interface even if there is no LCD panel. The limiting
of this check to desktops only was done to avoid breaking backlight
support on some laptops which do not have the lcd flag set.
The Fujitsu ESPRIMO Q910 which is a compact (NUC like) desktop machine
has a chassis type of 0x10 aka "Lunch Box". Without the lcd_only check
we end up falsely advertising backlight/brightness control on this
device. This commit extend the dmi_is_desktop check to return true
for type 0x10 to fix this.

This commit refactors the chassis-type detection introduced by
commit 53fa1f6e8a ("ACPI / video: Only default only_lcd to true on
Win8-ready _desktops_") (where desktop means anything without a builtin
screen).
The DMI chassis_type is an unsigned integer, so rather then doing a
whole bunch of string-compares on it, convert it to an int and feed
the result to a switch case.
Note the switch case uses hex values, this is done because the spec
uses hex values too. This changes the check for "Main Server Chassis"
from checking for 11 decimal to 11 hexadecimal, this is a bug fix,
the original check for 11 decimal was wrong.

Recent fixes to command handling enabled Linux to read label
configurations that it could not before. Unfortunately that means that
configurations that were operating in label-less mode will be broken as
the kernel ignores the existing namespace configuration and tries to
honor the new found labels.
Fortunately this seems limited to a case where Linux can quirk the
behavior and maintain the existing label-less semantics by default.
When the platform does not emit an _LSW method, disable all label access
methods. Provide a 'force_labels' module parameter to allow read-only
label operation.

ghes_read_estatus() reads the record address, then the record's

records into the provided estatus buffer.
To provide this estatus buffer the caller must know the size of the

happens today for the non-NMI notifications.
Add a function to peek at the record's header to find the size. This
will let the NMI path allocate the right amount of memory before reading

The NMI-like notifications scribble over ghes->estatus, before
copying it somewhere else. If this interrupts the ghes_probe() code
calling ghes_proc() on each struct ghes, the data is corrupted.
All the NMI-like notifications should use a queued estatus entry
from the beginning, instead of the ghes version, then copying it.
To do this, break up any use of "ghes->estatus" so that all
functions take the estatus as an argument.
This patch just moves these ghes->estatus dereferences into separate
arguments, no change in behaviour. struct ghes becomes unused in
ghes_clear_estatus() as it only wanted ghes->estatus, which we now
pass directly. This is removed.

ghes_copy_tofrom_phys() uses a different fixmap slot depending on in_nmi().
This doesn't work when there are multiple NMI-like notifications, that
could interrupt each other.
As with the locking, move the chosen fixmap_idx to the notification helper.
This only matters for NMI-like notifications, anything calling
ghes_proc() can use the IRQ fixmap slot as its already holding an irqsave
spinlock.
This lets us collapse the ghes_ioremap_pfn_*() helpers.

During ghes_proc() we use ghes_ack_error() to tell an external agent
we are done with these records and it can re-use the memory.
rc may hold an error returned by ghes_read_estatus(), ENOENT causes
us to skip ghes_ack_error() (as there is nothing to ack), but rc may
also by EIO, which gets supressed.
ghes_clear_estatus() is where we mark the records as processed for
non GHESv2 error sources, and already spots the ENOENT case as
buf_paddr is set to 0 by ghes_read_estatus().
Move the ghes_ack_error() call in here to avoid extra logic with
the return code in ghes_proc().
This enables GHESv2 acking for NMI-like error sources. This is safe
as the buffer is pre-mapped by map_gen_v2() before the GHES is added
to any NMI handler lists.
This same pre-mapping step means we can't receive an error from
apei_read()/write() here as apei_check_gar() succeeded when it
was mapped, and the mapping was cached, so the address can't be
rejected at runtime. Remove the error-returns as this is now
called from a function with no return.

ghes_read_estatus() sets a flag in struct ghes if the buffer of
CPER records needs to be cleared once the records have been
processed. This flag value is a problem if a struct ghes can be
processed concurrently, as happens at probe time if an NMI arrives
for the same error source. The NMI clears the flag, meaning the
interrupted handler may never do the ghes_estatus_clear() work.
The GHES_TO_CLEAR flags is only set at the same time as
buffer_paddr, which is now owned by the caller and passed to
ghes_clear_estatus(). Use this value as the flag.
A non-zero buf_paddr returned by ghes_read_estatus() means
ghes_clear_estatus() should clear this address. ghes_read_estatus()

When CPER records are found the address of the records is stashed
in the struct ghes. Once the records have been processed, this
address is overwritten with zero so that it won't be processed
again without being re-populated by firmware.
This goes wrong if a struct ghes can be processed concurrently,
as can happen at probe time when an NMI occurs. If the NMI arrives
on another CPU, the probing CPU may call ghes_clear_estatus() on the
records before the handler had finished with them.
Even on the same CPU, once the interrupted handler is resumed, it
will call ghes_clear_estatus() on the NMIs records, this memory may
have already been re-used by firmware.
Avoid this stashing by letting the caller hold the address. A

ghes.c has a memory pool it uses for the estatus cache and the estatus
queue. The cache is initialised when registering the platform driver.
For the queue, an NMI-like notification has to grow/shrink the pool
as it is registered and unregistered.
This is all pretty noisy when adding new NMI-like notifications, it
would be better to replace this with a static pool size based on the
number of users.
As a precursor, move the call that creates the pool from ghes_init(),
into hest.c. Later this will take the number of ghes entries and
consolidate the queue allocations.
Remove ghes_estatus_pool_exit() as hest.c doesn't have anywhere to put
this.
The pool is now initialised as part of ACPI's subsys_initcall():

Notice that acpi_ec_add() calls acpi_config_boot_ec() when it finds
that the device object passed to it represents a "boot" EC, but in
that case the ec pointer passed to acpi_config_boot_ec() is guaranteed

The implementation is broken in all the ways the unit test did not touch:
1/ The local definition of in_buf and in_obj violated C99 initializer
expectations for zeroing. By only initializing 2 out of the three
struct members the compiler was free to zero-initialize the remaining
entry even though the aliased location in the union was initialized.
2/ The implementation made assumptions about the state of the 'smart'
payload after command execution that are satisfied by
acpi_nfit_ctl(), but not acpi_evaluate_dsm().
3/ populate_shutdown_status() is skipped on Intel NVDIMMs due to the early
return for skipping the common _LS{I,R,W} enabling.
4/ The input length should be zero.
This breakage was missed due to the unit test implementation only
testing the case where nfit_intel_shutdown_status() returns a valid
payload.
Much of this complexity would be saved if acpi_nfit_ctl() could be used, but
that currently requires a 'struct nvdimm *' argument and one is not created
until later in the init process. The health result is needed before the device
is created because the payload gates whether the nmemX/nfit/dirty_shutdown

- Fix driver initialization crash due to the inability to report an

- Build warning fix for little-endian ARM64 builds
- Fix a potential race between the EDAC driver's usage of the NFIT

Some systems have had functional issues since commit 5a8361f7ec
(ACPICA: Integrate package handling with module-level code) that,
among other things, changed the initial values of the
acpi_gbl_group_module_level_code and acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list
global flags in ACPICA which implicitly caused acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() to
be called before acpi_load_tables() on the vast majority of platforms.
Namely, before commit 5a8361f7ec, acpi_load_tables() was called from
acpi_early_init() if acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list was FALSE and
acpi_gbl_group_module_level_code was TRUE, which almost always was
the case as FALSE and TRUE were their initial values, respectively.
The acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list value would be changed to TRUE
for a couple of platforms in acpi_quirks_dmi_table[], but it remained
FALSE in the vast majority of cases.
After commit 5a8361f7ec, the initial values of the two flags have
been reversed, so in effect acpi_load_tables() has not been called
from acpi_early_init() any more. That, in turn, affects
acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() which is invoked before acpi_load_tables() now
and it is not possible to evaluate the _REG method for the EC address
space handler installed by it. That effectively causes the EC address
space to be inaccessible to AML on platforms with an ECDT matching the
EC device definition in the DSDT and functional problems ensue in
there.
Because the default behavior before commit 5a8361f7ec was to call
acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() after acpi_load_tables(), it should be safe to
do that again. Moreover, the EC address space handler installed by
acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() is only needed for AML to be able to access the
EC address space and the only AML that can run during acpi_load_tables()
is module-level code which only is allowed to access address spaces
with default handlers (memory, I/O and PCI config space).
For this reason, move the acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() invocation back to
acpi_bus_init(), from where it was taken away by commit d737f333b2
(ACPI: probe ECDT before loading AML tables regardless of module-level
code flag), and put it after the invocation of acpi_load_tables() to
restore the original code ordering from before commit 5a8361f7ec.

Most PMIC-s use only a single i2c-address, so after verifying the
i2c-address matches, we can simply pass the call to regmap_update_bits.
This commit adds support for this and hooks this up for the xpower AXP288
PMIC by setting the new pmic_i2c_address field.
This fixes the following errors on display on / off on a Jumper Ezpad
mini 3 and an Onda V80 plus tablet, both of which use the AXP288:
intel_soc_pmic_exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element: Not implemented

[drm:mipi_exec_pmic [i915]] *ERROR* mipi_exec_pmic failed, error: -95
Instead of these errors on both devices we now correctly turn on / off
DLDO3 (through direct register manipulation). On the Onda V80 plus this
fixes an issue with the backlight being brighter around the borders after
an off / on cycle. This should also help to save some power when the
display is off.

Tables using so called MIPI sequences. One possible element in these
sequences is a PMIC specific element of 15 bytes.
Although this is not really an ACPI opregion, the ACPI opregion code is the
closest thing we have. We need to have support for these PMIC specific MIPI
sequence elements somwhere. Since we already instantiate a special platform
device for Intel PMICs for the ACPI PMIC OpRegion handler to bind to,
with PMIC specific implementations of the OpRegion, the handling of MIPI
sequence PMIC elements fits very well in the ACPI PMIC OpRegion code.
This commit adds a new intel_soc_pmic_exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element()

exec_mipi_pmic_seq_element callback. This function will be called by the

The current-source used for the battery temp-sensor (TS) is shared with the
GPADC. For proper fuel-gauge and charger operation the TS current-source
needs to be permanently on. But to read the GPADC we need to temporary
switch the TS current-source to ondemand, so that the GPADC can use it,
otherwise we will always read an all 0 value.
The switching from on to on-ondemand is not necessary when the TS
current-source is off (this happens on devices which do not have a TS).
Prior to this commit there were 2 issues with our handling of the TS
current-source switching:
1) We were writing hardcoded values to the ADC TS pin-ctrl register,
overwriting various other unrelated bits. Specifically we were overwriting
the current-source setting for the TS and GPIO0 pins, forcing it to 80ųA
independent of its original setting. On a Chuwi Vi10 tablet this was
causing us to get a too high adc value (due to a too high current-source)
resulting in acpi_lpat_raw_to_temp() returning -ENOENT, resulting in:
ACPI Error: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_SB.SXP1._TMP, AE_ERROR
This commit fixes this by using regmap_update_bits to change only the
relevant bits.
2) At the end of intel_xpower_pmic_get_raw_temp() we were unconditionally
enabling the TS current-source even on devices where the TS-pin is not used
and the current-source thus was off on entry of the function.
This commit fixes this by checking if the TS current-source is off when
entering intel_xpower_pmic_get_raw_temp() and if so it is left as is.

Persistent memory, as described by the ACPI NFIT (NVDIMM Firmware
Interface Table), is the first known instance of a memory range
described by a unique "target" proximity domain. Where "initiator" and
"target" proximity domains is an approach that the ACPI HMAT
(Heterogeneous Memory Attributes Table) uses to described the unique
performance properties of a memory range relative to a given initiator
(e.g. CPU or DMA device).
Currently the numa-node for a /dev/pmemX block-device or /dev/daxX.Y
char-device follows the traditional notion of 'numa-node' where the
attribute conveys the closest online numa-node. That numa-node attribute
is useful for cpu-binding and memory-binding processes *near* the
device. However, when the memory range backing a 'pmem', or 'dax' device
is onlined (memory hot-add) the memory-only-numa-node representing that
address needs to be differentiated from the set of online nodes. In
other words, the numa-node association of the device depends on whether
you can bind processes *near* the cpu-numa-node in the offline
device-case, or bind process *on* the memory-range directly after the
backing address range is onlined.
Allow for the case that platform firmware describes persistent memory
with a unique proximity domain, i.e. when it is distinct from the
proximity of DRAM and CPUs that are on the same socket. Plumb the Linux
numa-node translation of that proximity through the libnvdimm region
device to namespaces that are in device-dax mode. With this in place the
proposed kmem driver [1] can optionally discover a unique numa-node
number for the address range as it transitions the memory from an
offline state managed by a device-driver to an online memory range
managed by the core-mm.

Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.
It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.
A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.
This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.
There were a couple of notable cases:
- csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.
- the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
really used it)
- microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout
but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.
I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

allmodconfig) causing PCI_LABEL to be selected when ACPI was set
which caused NLS to be selected too in that case.
However, after commit 5d32a66541 (PCI/ACPI: Allow ACPI to be built
without CONFIG_PCI set) it is possible to build ACPI support without
PCI, so make ACPI select NLS directly to cover that case.
Fixes: 5d32a66541 (PCI/ACPI: Allow ACPI to be built without CONFIG_PCI set)

Including (in no particular order):
- Page table code for AMD IOMMU now supports large pages where
smaller page-sizes were mapped before. VFIO had to work around
that in the past and I included a patch to remove it (acked by
Alex Williamson)
- Patches to unmodularize a couple of IOMMU drivers that would
never work as modules anyway.
- Work to unify the the iommu-related pointers in
'struct device' into one pointer. This work is not finished
yet, but will probably be in the next cycle.
- NUMA aware allocation in iommu-dma code
- Support for r8a774a1 and r8a774c0 in the Renesas IOMMU driver
- Scalable mode support for the Intel VT-d driver
- PM runtime improvements for the ARM-SMMU driver
- Support for the QCOM-SMMUv2 IOMMU hardware from Qualcom

Here is the big set of char and misc driver patches for 4.21-rc1.
Lots of different types of driver things in here, as this tree seems to
be the "collection of various driver subsystems not big enough to have
their own git tree" lately.
Anyway, some highlights of the changes in here:
- binderfs: is it a rule that all driver subsystems will eventually
grow to have their own filesystem? Binder now has one to handle the
use of it in containerized systems. This was discussed at the
Plumbers conference a few months ago and knocked into mergable shape
very fast by Christian Brauner. Who also has signed up to be
another binder maintainer, showing a distinct lack of good judgement :)
- binder updates and fixes
- mei driver updates
- fpga driver updates and additions
- thunderbolt driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- extcon driver updates
- nvmem driver updates
- hyper-v driver updates
- coresight driver updates
- pvpanic driver additions and reworking for more device support
- lp driver updates. Yes really, it's _finally_ moved to the proper
parallal port driver model, something I never thought I would see
happen. Good stuff.
- other tiny driver updates and fixes.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams:
"The vast bulk of this update is the new support for the security
capabilities of some nvdimms.
The userspace tooling for this capability is still a work in progress,
but the changes survive the existing libnvdimm unit tests. The changes
also pass manual checkout on hardware and the new nfit_test emulation
of the security capability.
The touches of the security/keys/ files have received the necessary
acks from Mimi and David. Those changes were necessary to allow for a
new generic encrypted-key type, and allow the nvdimm sub-system to
lookup key material referenced by the libnvdimm-sysfs interface.

A huge update this time, but a lot of that is just consolidating or
removing code:
- provide a common DMA_MAPPING_ERROR definition and avoid indirect
calls for dma_map_* error checking
- use direct calls for the DMA direct mapping case, avoiding huge
retpoline overhead for high performance workloads
- merge the swiotlb dma_map_ops into dma-direct
- provide a generic remapping DMA consistent allocator for architectures
that have devices that perform DMA that is not cache coherent. Based
on the existing arm64 implementation and also used for csky now.
- improve the dma-debug infrastructure, including dynamic allocation
of entries (Robin Murphy)
- default to providing chaining scatterlist everywhere, with opt-outs
for the few architectures (alpha, parisc, most arm32 variants) that
can't cope with it
- misc sparc32 dma-related cleanups
- remove the dma_mark_clean arch hook used by swiotlb on ia64 and
replace it with the generic noncoherent infrastructure
- fix the return type of dma_set_max_seg_size (Niklas Söderlund)
- move the dummy dma ops for not DMA capable devices from arm64 to
common code (Robin Murphy)
- ensure dma_alloc_coherent returns zeroed memory to avoid kernel data
leaks through userspace. We already did this for most common
architectures, but this ensures we do it everywhere.
dma_zalloc_coherent has been deprecated and can hopefully be
removed after -rc1 with a coccinelle script.

With Intel DSM 1.8 [1] two new security DSMs are introduced. Enable/update
master passphrase and master secure erase. The master passphrase allows
a secure erase to be performed without the user passphrase that is set on
the NVDIMM. The commands of master_update and master_erase are added to
the sysfs knob in order to initiate the DSMs. They are similar in opeartion
mechanism compare to update and erase.

Add support for the NVDIMM_FAMILY_INTEL "ovewrite" capability as
described by the Intel DSM spec v1.7. This will allow triggering of
overwrite on Intel NVDIMMs. The overwrite operation can take tens of
minutes. When the overwrite DSM is issued successfully, the NVDIMMs will
be unaccessible. The kernel will do backoff polling to detect when the
overwrite process is completed. According to the DSM spec v1.7, the 128G
NVDIMMs can take up to 15mins to perform overwrite and larger DIMMs will
take longer.
Given that overwrite puts the DIMM in an indeterminate state until it
completes introduce the NDD_SECURITY_OVERWRITE flag to prevent other
operations from executing when overwrite is happening. The
NDD_WORK_PENDING flag is added to denote that there is a device reference
on the nvdimm device for an async workqueue thread context.

Remove PCI dependent code out of iort.c when CONFIG_PCI is not defined.
A quick search reveals the following functions:
1. pci_request_acs()
2. pci_domain_nr()
3. pci_is_root_bus()
4. to_pci_dev()
Both pci_domain_nr() and pci_is_root_bus() are defined in linux/pci.h.
pci_domain_nr() is a stub function when CONFIG_PCI is not set and
pci_is_root_bus() just returns a reference to a structure member which
is still valid without CONFIG_PCI set.
to_pci_dev() is a macro that expands to container_of.
pci_request_acs() is the only code that gets pulled in from drivers/pci/*.c

directly output to external monitors; however, Nvidia and AMD's Linux

The OEM _OSI string "Linux-HPI-Hybrid-Graphics" is used by BIOS to
implement dGPU direct output to external monitors.
The form of the OEM _OSI strings is defined by each OEMs and is

After a previous change, all non-wakeup GPEs are disabled for
suspend-to-idle unless full Low-Power S0 (LPS0) mode is in use, so
it is not necessary to do anything in acpi_s2idle_wake() unless in
full LPS0 mode, which is only when lps0_device_handle is set.
Modify the code accordingly.

There are systems in which non-wakeup GPEs fire during the "noirq"
suspend stage of suspending devices and that effectively prevents the
system that tries to suspend to idle from entering any low-power
state at all. If the offending GPE fires regularly and often enough,
the system appears to be suspended, but in fact it is in a tight loop
over "noirq" suspend and "noirq" resume of devices all the time.
To prevent that from happening, disable all non-wakeup GPEs except
for the EC GPE for suspend-to-idle (the EC GPE is special, because
on some systems it has to be enabled for power button wakeup events
to be generated as expected).

Add support to unlock the dimm via the kernel key management APIs. The
passphrase is expected to be pulled from userspace through keyutils.
The key management and sysfs attributes are libnvdimm generic.
Encrypted keys are used to protect the nvdimm passphrase at rest. The

Some NVDIMMs, like the ones defined by the NVDIMM_FAMILY_INTEL command
set, expose a security capability to lock the DIMMs at poweroff and
require a passphrase to unlock them. The security model is derived from
ATA security. In anticipation of other DIMMs implementing a similar
scheme, and to abstract the core security implementation away from the
device-specific details, introduce nvdimm_security_ops.
Initially only a status retrieval operation, ->state(), is defined,

used as the identifier/description for the security key. Since it's

As nvdimm_create() continues to grow parameters relative to NFIT driver

Rather than checking the DMA attribute at each callsite, just pass it
through for acpi_dma_configure() to handle directly. That can then deal
with the relatively exceptional DEV_DMA_NOT_SUPPORTED case by explicitly
installing dummy DMA ops instead of just skipping setup entirely. This
will then free up the dev->dma_ops == NULL case for some valuable

we end up with acpi_default_enumeration() still creating a platform-

but without the special LPSS related handling which is not useful.
Specicifically ignoring the error fixes the touchscreen no longer
working after a suspend/resume on a Prowise PT301 tablet.
This tablet has a broken _PS0 method on the touchscreen's I2C controller,
causing acpi_device_fix_up_power() to fail, causing fallback to standard
platform-dev handling and specifically causing acpi_lpss_save/restore_ctx

The I2C controllers _PS0 method does actually turn on the device, but then

Pull libnvdimm fixes from Dan Williams:
"A regression fix for the Address Range Scrub implementation, yes
another one, and support for platforms that misalign persistent memory
relative to the Linux memory hotplug section constraint. Longer term,
support for sub-section memory hotplug would alleviate alignment
waste, but until then this hack allows a 'struct page' memmap to be
established for these misaligned memory regions.
These have all appeared in a -next release, and thanks to Patrick for
reporting and testing the alignment padding fix.
Summary:
- Unless and until the core mm handles memory hotplug units smaller
than a section (128M), persistent memory namespaces must be padded
to section alignment.
The libnvdimm core already handled section collision with "System
RAM", but some configurations overlap independent "Persistent
Memory" ranges within a section, so additional padding injection is
added for that case.
- The recent reworks of the ARS (address range scrub) state machine
to reduce the number of state flags inadvertantly missed a
conversion of acpi_nfit_ars_rescan() call sites. Fix the regression
whereby user-requested ARS results in a "short" scrub rather than a
"long" scrub.
- Fixup the unit tests to handle / test the 128M section alignment of
mocked test resources.

acpi/nfit: Fix user-initiated ARS to be "ARS-long" rather than "ARS-short"
libnvdimm, pfn: Pad pfn namespaces relative to other regions
tools/testing/nvdimm: Align test resources to 128M
A "short" ARS (address range scrub) instructs the platform firmware to
return known errors. In contrast, a "long" ARS instructs platform
firmware to arrange every data address on the DIMM to be read / checked
for poisoned data.
The conversion of the flags in commit d3abaf43ba "acpi, nfit: Fix
Address Range Scrub completion tracking", changed the meaning of passing
'0' to acpi_nfit_ars_rescan(). Previously '0' meant "not short", now '0'
is ARS_REQ_SHORT. Pass ARS_REQ_LONG to restore the expected scrub-type
behavior of user-initiated ARS sessions.

A malicious PCI device may use DMA to attack the system. An external
Thunderbolt port is a convenient point to attach such a device. The OS
may use IOMMU to defend against DMA attacks.
Some BIOSes mark these externally facing root ports with this
ACPI _DSD [1]:
Name (_DSD, Package () {
ToUUID ("efcc06cc-73ac-4bc3-bff0-76143807c389"),
Package () {
Package () {"ExternalFacingPort", 1},
Package () {"UID", 0 }
}
})
If we find such a root port, mark it and all its children as untrusted.
The rest of the OS may use this information to enable DMA protection
against malicious devices. For instance the device may be put behind an
IOMMU to keep it from accessing memory outside of what the driver has
allocated for it.
While at it, add a comment on top of prp_guids array explaining the
possible caveat resulting when these GUIDs are treated equivalent.

Add command definition for security commands defined in Intel DSM
specification v1.8 [1]. This includes "get security state", "set

"overwrite query", "master passphrase enable/disable", and "master

bits to their own header.
These commands mutate physical data, but that manipulation is not cache
coherent. The requirement to flush and invalidate caches makes these
commands unsuitable to be called from userspace, so extra logic is added
to detect and block these commands from being submitted via the ioctl
command submission path.
Lastly, the commands may contain sensitive key material that should not
be dumped in a standard debug session. Update the nvdimm-command
payload-dump facility to move security command payloads behind a

In later patches we will need to map types to names, so create a
constant table for that which can also be used in different parts of
old and new code. This saves the type in the PRZ which will be useful
in later patches.
Instead of having an explicit PSTORE_TYPE_UNKNOWN, just use ..._MAX.
This includes removing the now redundant filename templates which can use
a single format string. Also, there's no reason to limit the "is it still
compressed?" test to only PSTORE_TYPE_DMESG when building the pstorefs

Many HP AMD based laptops contain an SMB0001 device like this:
Device (SMBD)
{
Name (_HID, "SMB0001") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () // _CRS: Current Resource Settings
{
IO (Decode16,
0x0B20, // Range Minimum
0x0B20, // Range Maximum
0x20, // Alignment
0x20, // Length
)
IRQ (Level, ActiveLow, Shared, )
{7}
})
}
The legacy style IRQ resource here causes acpi_dev_get_irqresource() to
be called with legacy=true and this message to show in dmesg:
ACPI: IRQ 7 override to edge, high
This causes issues when later on the AMD0030 GPIO device gets enumerated:
Device (GPIO)
{
Name (_HID, "AMDI0030") // _HID: Hardware ID
Name (_CID, "AMDI0030") // _CID: Compatible ID
Name (_UID, Zero) // _UID: Unique ID
Method (_CRS, 0, NotSerialized) // _CRS: Current Resource Settings
{
Name (RBUF, ResourceTemplate ()
{
Interrupt (ResourceConsumer, Level, ActiveLow, Shared, ,, )
{
0x00000007,
}
Memory32Fixed (ReadWrite,
0xFED81500, // Address Base
0x00000400, // Address Length
)
})
Return (RBUF) /* \_SB_.GPIO._CRS.RBUF */
}
}
Now acpi_dev_get_irqresource() gets called with legacy=false, but because
of the earlier override of the trigger-type acpi_register_gsi() returns
-EBUSY (because we try to register the same interrupt with a different
trigger-type) and we end up setting IORESOURCE_DISABLED in the flags.
The setting of IORESOURCE_DISABLED causes platform_get_irq() to call
acpi_irq_get() which is not implemented on x86 and returns -EINVAL.
resulting in the following in dmesg:
amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22
The SMB0001 is a "virtual" device in the sense that the only way the OS
interacts with it is through calling a couple of methods to do SMBus
transfers. As such it is weird that it has IO and IRQ resources at all,
because the driver for it is not expected to ever access the hardware
directly.
The Linux driver for the SMB0001 device directly binds to the acpi_device
through the acpi_bus, so we do not need to instantiate a platform_device
for this ACPI device. This commit adds the SMB0001 HID to the
forbidden_id_list, avoiding the instantiating of a platform_device for it.
Not instantiating a platform_device means we will no longer call
acpi_dev_get_irqresource() for the legacy IRQ resource fixing the probe of
the AMDI0030 device failing.

Generic Serial Bus transfers use a data struct like this:
struct gsb_buffer {
u8 status;
u8 len;
u8 data[0];
};
acpi_ex_write_data_to_field() copies the data which is to be written from
the source-buffer to a temp-buffer. This is done because the OpReg-handler
overwrites the status field and some transfers do a write + read-back.
Commit f99b89eefe ("ACPICA: Update for generic_serial_bus and

introduces a number of problems with this:
1) It drops a "length += 2" statement used to calculate the temp-buffer
size causing the temp-buffer to only be 1/2 bytes large for byte/word
transfers while it should be 3/4 bytes (taking the status and len field
into account). This is already fixed in commit e324e10109 ("ACPICA:
Update for field unit access") which refactors the code.
The ACPI 6.0 spec (ACPI_6.0.pdf) "5.5.2.4.5.2 Declaring and Using a
GenericSerialBusData Buffer" (page 232) states that the GenericSerialBus
Data Buffer Length field is only valid when doing a Read/Write Block
(AttribBlock) transfer, but since the troublesome commit we unconditionally
use the len field to determine how much data to copy from the source-buffer
into the temp-buffer passed to the OpRegion.
This causes 3 further issues:
2) This may lead to not copying enough data to the temp-buffer causing the
OpRegion handler for the serial-bus to write garbage to the hardware.
3) The temp-buffer passed to the OpRegion is allocated to the size
returned by acpi_ex_get_serial_access_length(), which may be as little
as 1, so potentially this may lead to a write overflow of the temp-buffer.
4) Commit e324e10109 ("ACPICA: Update for field unit access") drops a
length check on the source-buffer, leading to a potential read overflow
of the source-buffer.
This commit fixes all 3 remaining issues by not looking at the len field at
all (the interpretation of this field is left up to the OpRegion handler),
and copying the minimum of the source- and temp-buffer sizes from the
source-buffer to the temp-buffer.
This fixes e.g. an Acer S1003 no longer booting since the troublesome
commit.

"A small batch of fixes for v4.20-rc3.
The overflow continuation fix addresses something that has been broken
for several releases. Arguably it could wait even longer, but it's a
one line fix and this finishes the last of the known address range
scrub bug reports. The revert addresses a lockdep regression. The unit
tests are not critical to fix, but no reason to hold this fix back.

When the platform BIOS is unable to report all the media error records
it requires the OS to restart the scrub at a prescribed location. The
driver detects the overflow condition, but then fails to report it to
the ARS state machine after reaping the records. Propagate -ENOSPC
correctly to continue the ARS operation.

Enhance error detection by validating that all name_seg elements

at best, and such errors could be improperly ignored at compile
time (never at runtime, however). There are two new error messages.
