571745935b nfs4: wake any lock waiters on successful RECLAIM_COMPLETE
If we have a RECLAIM_COMPLETE with a populated cl_lock_waitq, then
that implies that a reconnect has occurred. Since we can't expect a

Merge tag 'fscache-next-20180406' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs

Pull fscache updates from David Howells:
"Three patches that fix some of AFS's usage of fscache:

   (1) Need to invalidate the cache if a foreign data change is detected
       on the server.

   (2) Move the vnode ID uniquifier (equivalent to i_generation) from
the auxiliary data to the index key to prevent a race between
file delete and a subsequent file create seeing the same index
       key.

   (3) Need to retire cookies that correspond to files that we think got
       deleted on the server.

Four patches to fix some things in fscache and cachefiles:

   (4) Fix a couple of checker warnings.

   (5) Correctly indicate to the end-of-operation callback whether an
       operation completed or was cancelled.

   (6) Add a check for multiple cookie relinquishment.

   (7) Fix a path through the asynchronous write that doesn't wake up a
waiter for a page if the cache decides not to write that page,
       but discards it instead.

A couple of patches to add tracepoints to fscache and cachefiles:

   (8) Add tracepoints for cookie operators, object state machine
execution, cachefiles object management and cachefiles VFS
       operations.

   (9) Add tracepoints for fscache operation management and page
       wrangling.

  And then three development patches:

  (10) Attach the index key and auxiliary data to the cookie, pass this
information through various fscache-netfs API functions and get
rid of the callbacks to the netfs to get it.

This means that the cache can get at this information, even if
the netfs goes away. It also means that the cache can be lazy in
       updating the coherency data.

  (11) Pass the object data size through various fscache-netfs API
rather than calling back to the netfs for it, and store the value
       in the object.

This makes it easier to correctly resize the object, as the size
is updated on writes to the cache, rather than calling back out
       to the netfs.

  (12) Maintain a catalogue of allocated cookies. This makes it possible
to catch cookie collision up front rather than down in the bowels
of the cache being run from a service thread from the object
       state machine.

This will also make it possible in the future to reconnect to a
cookie that's not gone dead yet because it's waiting for
finalisation of the storage and also make it possible to bring
cookies online if the cache is added after the cookie has been
       obtained"

ee1235a9a0 fscache: Pass object size in rather than calling back for it
Pass the object size in to fscache_acquire_cookie() and
fscache_write_page() rather than the netfs providing a callback by which it
can be received. This makes it easier to update the size of the object
when a new page is written that extends the object.

The current object size is also passed by fscache to the check_aux
function, obviating the need to store it in the aux data.

402cb8dda9 fscache: Attach the index key and aux data to the cookie
Attach copies of the index key and auxiliary data to the fscache cookie so
that:

 (1) The callbacks to the netfs for this stuff can be eliminated. This
can simplify things in the cache as the information is still
available, even after the cache has relinquished the cookie.

 (2) Simplifies the locking requirements of accessing the information as we
don't have to worry about the netfs object going away on us.

 (3) The cache can do lazy updating of the coherency information on disk.
As long as the cache is flushed before reboot/poweroff, there's no
need to update the coherency info on disk every time it changes.

 (4) Cookies can be hashed or put in a tree as the index key is easily
     available. This allows:

     (a) Checks for duplicate cookies can be made at the top fscache layer
rather than down in the bowels of the cache backend.

     (b) Caching can be added to a netfs object that has a cookie if the
cache is brought online after the netfs object is allocated.

A certain amount of space is made in the cookie for inline copies of the
data, but if it won't fit there, extra memory will be allocated for it.

The downside of this is that live cache operation requires more memory.

95dd77580c fs: Teach path_connected to handle nfs filesystems with multiple roots.
On nfsv2 and nfsv3 the nfs server can export subsets of the same
filesystem and report the same filesystem identifier, so that the nfs
client can know they are the same filesystem. The subsets can be from
disjoint directory trees. The nfsv2 and nfsv3 filesystems provides no
way to find the common root of all directory trees exported form the
server with the same filesystem identifier.

The practical result is that in struct super s_root for nfs s_root is
not necessarily the root of the filesystem. The nfs mount code sets
s_root to the root of the first subset of the nfs filesystem that the
kernel mounts.

This effects the dcache invalidation code in generic_shutdown_super
currently called shrunk_dcache_for_umount and that code for years
has gone through an additional list of dentries that might be dentry
trees that need to be freed to accomodate nfs.

When I wrote path_connected I did not realize nfs was so special, and
it's hueristic for avoiding calling is_subdir can fail.

The practical case where this fails is when there is a move of a
directory from the subtree exposed by one nfs mount to the subtree
exposed by another nfs mount. This move can happen either locally or
remotely. With the remote case requiring that the move directory be cached
before the move and that after the move someone walks the path
to where the move directory now exists and in so doing causes the
already cached directory to be moved in the dcache through the magic
of d_splice_alias.

If someone whose working directory is in the move directory or a
subdirectory and now starts calling .. from the initial mount of nfs
(where s_root == mnt_root), then path_connected as a heuristic will
not bother with the is_subdir check. As s_root really is not the root
of the nfs filesystem this heuristic is wrong, and the path may
actually not be connected and path_connected can fail.

The is_subdir function might be cheap enough that we can call it
unconditionally. Verifying that will take some benchmarking and
the result may not be the same on all kernels this fix needs
to be backported to. So I am avoiding that for now.

Filesystems with snapshots such as nilfs and btrfs do something
similar. But as the directory tree of the snapshots are disjoint
from one another and from the main directory tree rename won't move
things between them and this problem will not occur.

c4f24df942 NFS: Fix unstable write completion
We do want to respect the FLUSH_SYNC argument to nfs_commit_inode() to
ensure that all outstanding COMMIT requests to the inode in question are
complete. Currently we may exit early from both nfs_commit_inode() and
nfs_write_inode() even if there are COMMIT requests in flight, or unstable
writes on the commit list.

In order to get the right semantics w.r.t. sync_inode(), we don't need
to have nfs_commit_inode() reset the inode dirty flags when called from
nfs_wb_page() and/or nfs_wb_all(). We just need to ensure that
nfs_write_inode() leaves them in the right state if there are outstanding
commits, or stable pages.

Pull inode->i_version rework from Jeff Layton:
"This pile of patches is a rework of the inode->i_version field. We
have traditionally incremented that field on every inode data or
metadata change. Typically this increment needs to be logged on disk
even when nothing else has changed, which is rather expensive.

It turns out though that none of the consumers of that field actually
require this behavior. The only real requirement for all of them is
that it be different iff the inode has changed since the last time the
  field was checked.

Given that, we can optimize away most of the i_version increments and
avoid dirtying inode metadata when the only change is to the i_version
and no one is querying it. Queries of the i_version field are rather
rare, so we can help write performance under many common workloads.

This patch series converts existing accesses of the i_version field to
a new API, and then converts all of the in-kernel filesystems to use
it. The last patch in the series then converts the backend
implementation to a scheme that optimizes away a large portion of the
metadata updates when no one is looking at it.

In my own testing this series significantly helps performance with
small I/O sizes. I also got this email for Christmas this year from
the kernel test robot (a 244% r/w bandwidth improvement with XFS over
  DAX, with 4k writes):

    https://lkml.org/lkml/2017/12/25/8

A few of the earlier patches in this pile are also flowing to you via
other trees (mm, integrity, and nfsd trees in particular)".

49686cbbb3 NFS: reject request for id_legacy key without auxdata
nfs_idmap_legacy_upcall() is supposed to be called with 'aux' pointing
to a 'struct idmap', via the call to request_key_with_auxdata() in
nfs_idmap_request_key().

However it can also be reached via the request_key() system call in
which case 'aux' will be NULL, causing a NULL pointer dereference in
nfs_idmap_prepare_pipe_upcall(), assuming that the key description is
valid enough to get that far.

Fix this by making nfs_idmap_legacy_upcall() negate the key if no
auxdata is provided.

As usual, this bug was found by syzkaller. A simple reproducer using
the command-line keyctl program is:

530ea42192 nfs: Referrals should use the same proto setting as their parent
Helen Chao <helen.chao@oracle.com> noticed that when a user
traverses a referral on an NFS/RDMA mount, the resulting submount
always uses TCP.

This behavior does not match the vers= setting when traversing
a referral (vers=4.1 is preserved). It also does not match the
behavior of crossing from the pseudofs into a real filesystem
(proto=rdma is preserved in that case).

The Linux NFS client does not currently support the
fs_locations_info attribute. The situation is similar for all
NFSv4 servers I know of. Therefore until the community has broad
support for fs_locations_info, when following a referral:

 - First try to connect with RPC-over-RDMA. This will fail quickly
if the client has no RDMA-capable interfaces.

 - If connecting with RPC-over-RDMA fails, or the RPC-over-RDMA
transport is not available, use TCP.

ba4a76f703 nfs/pnfs: fix nfs_direct_req ref leak when i/o falls back to the mds
Currently when falling back to doing I/O through the MDS (via
pnfs_{read|write}_through_mds), the client frees the nfs_pgio_header
without releasing the reference taken on the dreq
via pnfs_generic_pg_{read|write}pages -> nfs_pgheader_init ->
nfs_direct_pgio_init. It then takes another reference on the dreq via
nfs_generic_pg_pgios -> nfs_pgheader_init -> nfs_direct_pgio_init and
as a result the requester will become stuck in inode_dio_wait. Once
that happens, other processes accessing the inode will become stuck as
well.

Ensure that pnfs_read_through_mds() and pnfs_write_through_mds() clean
up correctly by calling hdr->completion_ops->completion() instead of
calling hdr->release() directly.

This can be reproduced (sometimes) by performing "storage failover
takeover" commands on NetApp filer while doing direct I/O from a client.

This can also be reproduced using SystemTap to simulate a failure while
doing direct I/O from a client (from Dave Wysochanski
<dwysocha@redhat.com>):

stap -v -g -e 'probe module("nfs_layout_nfsv41_files").function("nfs4_fl_prepare_ds").return { $return=NULL; exit(); }'

b3dce6a2f0 pnfs/blocklayout: handle transient devices
PNFS block/SCSI layouts should gracefully handle cases where block devices
are not available when a layout is retrieved, or the block devices are
removed while the client holds a layout.

While setting up a layout segment, keep a record of an unavailable or
un-parsable block device in cache with a flag so that subsequent layouts do
not spam the server with GETDEVINFO. We can reuse the current
NFS_DEVICEID_UNAVAILABLE handling with one variation: instead of reusing
the device, we will discard it and send a fresh GETDEVINFO after the
timeout, since the lookup and validation of the device occurs within the
GETDEVINFO response handling.

A lookup of a layout segment that references an unavailable device will
return a segment with the NFS_LSEG_UNAVAILABLE flag set. This will allow
the pgio layer to mark the layout with the appropriate fail bit, which
forces subsequent IO to the MDS, and prevents spamming the server with
LAYOUTGET, LAYOUTRETURN.

Finally, when IO to a block device fails, look up the block device(s)
referenced by the pgio header, and mark them as unavailable.

dce2630c7d NFSv4: always set NFS_LOCK_LOST when a lock is lost.
There are 2 comments in the NFSv4 code which suggest that
SIGLOST should possibly be sent to a process. In these
cases a lock has been lost.
The current practice is to set NFS_LOCK_LOST so that
read/write returns EIO when a lock is lost.
So change these comments to code when sets NFS_LOCK_LOST.

One case is when lock recovery after apparent server restart
fails with NFS4ERR_DENIED, NFS4ERR_RECLAIM_BAD, or
NFS4ERRO_RECLAIM_CONFLICT. The other case is when a lock
attempt as part of lease recovery fails with NFS4ERR_DENIED.

In an ideal world, these should not happen. However I have
a packet trace showing an NFSv4.1 session getting
NFS4ERR_BADSESSION after an extended network parition. The
NFSv4.1 client treats this like server reboot until/unless
it get NFS4ERR_NO_GRACE, in which case it switches over to
"nograce" recovery mode. In this network trace, the client
attempts to recover a lock and the server (incorrectly)
reports NFS4ERR_DENIED rather than NFS4ERR_NO_GRACE. This
leads to the ineffective comment and the client then
continues to write using the OPEN stateid.

by ensuring that it keeps the same length whether or not NFSV4.1
and NFSv4.2 are compiled in.

c156618e15 nfs: fix a deadlock in nfs client initialization
The following deadlock can occur between a process waiting for a client
to initialize in while walking the client list during nfsv4 server trunking
detection and another process waiting for the nfs_clid_init_mutex so it
can initialize that client:

Process 1 Process 2
--------- ---------
spin_lock(&nn->nfs_client_lock);
list_add_tail(&CLIENTA->cl_share_link,
        &nn->nfs_client_list);
spin_unlock(&nn->nfs_client_lock);
                                        spin_lock(&nn->nfs_client_lock);
                                        list_add_tail(&CLIENTB->cl_share_link,
                                                &nn->nfs_client_list);
                                        spin_unlock(&nn->nfs_client_lock);
                                        mutex_lock(&nfs_clid_init_mutex);
                                        nfs41_walk_client_list(clp, result, cred);
                                        nfs_wait_client_init_complete(CLIENTA);
(waiting for nfs_clid_init_mutex)

Make sure nfs_match_client() only evaluates clients that have completed
initialization in order to prevent that deadlock.

This patch also fixes v4.0 trunking behavior by not marking the client
NFS_CS_READY until the clientid has been confirmed.

This is a pure automated search-and-replace of the internal kernel
superblock flags.

The s_flags are now called SB_*, with the names and the values for the

Note how the MS_xyz flags are the ones passed to the mount system call,
while the SB_xyz flags are what we then use in sb->s_flags.

The script to do this was:

c05cefcc72 nfs: Fix ugly referral attributes

directory looks strange:

dr-xr-xr-x. 2 4294967294 4294967294 0 Dec 31 1969 dir.0

nfs4_get_referral is wiping out any cached attributes with what was
returned via GETATTR(fs_locations), but the bit mask for that
operation does not request any file attributes.

Retrieve owner and timestamp information so that the memcpy in
nfs4_get_referral fills in more attributes.

Changes since v1:
- Don't request attributes that the client unconditionally replaces
- Request only MOUNTED_ON_FILEID or FILEID attribute, not both
- encode_fs_locations() doesn't use the third bitmask word

8fd1ab747d NFSv4: Fix open create exclusive when the server reboots
If the server that does not implement NFSv4.1 persistent session
semantics reboots while we are performing an exclusive create,
then the return value of NFS4ERR_DELAY when we replay the open
during the grace period causes us to lose the verifier.
When the grace period expires, and we present a new verifier,
the server will then correctly reply NFS4ERR_EXIST.

This commit ensures that we always present the same verifier when
replaying the OPEN.

c9399f21c2 NFSv4: Fix OPEN / CLOSE race
Ben Coddington has noted the following race between OPEN and CLOSE
on a single client.

Process 1 Process 2 Server
=========		=========		======

1) OPEN file
2) OPEN file
3) Process OPEN (1) seqid=1
4) Process OPEN (2) seqid=2
5) Reply OPEN (2)
6) Receive reply (2)
7) new stateid, seqid=2

8) CLOSE file, using
			stateid w/ seqid=2
9) Reply OPEN (1)
10( Process CLOSE (8)
11) Reply CLOSE (8)
12) Forget stateid
						file closed

13) Receive reply (7)
14) Forget stateid
			file closed.

15) Receive reply (1).
16) New stateid seqid=1
    is really the same
    stateid that was
    closed.

IOW: the reply to the first OPEN is delayed. Since "Process 2" does
not wait before closing the file, and it does not cache the closed
stateid, then when the delayed reply is finally received, it is treated
as setting up a new stateid by the client.

The fix is to ensure that the client processes the OPEN and CLOSE calls
in the same order in which the server processed them.

This commit ensures that we examine the seqid of the stateid
returned by OPEN. If it is a new stateid, we assume the seqid
must be equal to the value 1, and that each state transition
increments the seqid value by 1 (See RFC7530, Section 9.1.4.2,
and RFC5661, Section 8.2.2).

If the tracker sees that an OPEN returns with a seqid that is greater
than the cached seqid + 1, then it bumps a flag to ensure that the
caller waits for the RPCs carrying the missing seqids to complete.

Note that there can still be pathologies where the server crashes before
it can even send us the missing seqids. Since the OPEN call is still
holding a slot when it waits here, that could cause the recovery to
stall forever. To avoid that, we time out after a 5 second wait.

3be0f80b5f NFSv4.1: Fix up replays of interrupted requests
If the previous request on a slot was interrupted before it was
processed by the server, then our slot sequence number may be out of whack,
and so we try the next operation using the old sequence number.

The problem with this, is that not all servers check to see that the
client is replaying the same operations as previously when they decide
to go to the replay cache, and so instead of the expected error of
NFS4ERR_SEQ_FALSE_RETRY, we get a replay of the old reply, which could
(if the operations match up) be mistaken by the client for a new reply.

To fix this, we attempt to send a COMPOUND containing only the SEQUENCE op
in order to resync our slot sequence number.

Pull AFS updates from David Howells:
 "kAFS filesystem driver overhaul.

The major points of the overhaul are:

   (1) Preliminary groundwork is laid for supporting network-namespacing
of kAFS. The remainder of the namespacing work requires some way
to pass namespace information to submounts triggered by an
automount. This requires something like the mount overhaul that's
       in progress.

   (2) sockaddr_rxrpc is used in preference to in_addr for holding
addresses internally and add support for talking to the YFS VL
server. With this, kAFS can do everything over IPv6 as well as
IPv4 if it's talking to servers that support it.

   (3) Callback handling is overhauled to be generally passive rather
than active. 'Callbacks' are promises by the server to tell us
about data and metadata changes. Callbacks are now checked when
we next touch an inode rather than actively going and looking for
       it where possible.

   (4) File access permit caching is overhauled to store the caching
information per-inode rather than per-directory, shared over
subordinate files. Whilst older AFS servers only allow ACLs on
directories (shared to the files in that directory), newer AFS
       servers break that restriction.

To improve memory usage and to make it easier to do mass-key
removal, permit combinations are cached and shared.

   (5) Cell database management is overhauled to allow lighter locks to
be used and to make cell records autonomous state machines that
look after getting their own DNS records and cleaning themselves
up, in particular preventing races in acquiring and relinquishing
the fscache token for the cell.

   (6) Volume caching is overhauled. The afs_vlocation record is got rid
of to simplify things and the superblock is now keyed on the cell
and the numeric volume ID only. The volume record is tied to a
superblock and normal superblock management is used to mediate
the lifetime of the volume fscache token.

   (7) File server record caching is overhauled to make server records
independent of cells and volumes. A server can be in multiple
cells (in such a case, the administrator must make sure that the
VL services for all cells correctly reflect the volumes shared
       between those cells).

Server records are now indexed using the UUID of the server
rather than the address since a server can have multiple
       addresses.

   (8) File server rotation is overhauled to handle VMOVED, VBUSY (and
similar), VOFFLINE and VNOVOL indications and to handle rotation
both of servers and addresses of those servers. The rotation will
also wait and retry if the server says it is busy.

   (9) Data writeback is overhauled. Each inode no longer stores a list
of modified sections tagged with the key that authorised it in
favour of noting the modified region of a page in page->private
and storing a list of keys that made modifications in the inode.

This simplifies things and allows other keys to be used to
actually write to the server if a key that made a modification
       becomes useless.

  (10) Writable mmap() is implemented. This allows a kernel to be build
       entirely on AFS.

Note that Pre AFS-3.4 servers are no longer supported, though this can
be added back if necessary (AFS-3.4 was released in 1998)"

5e4def2038 Pass mode to wait_on_atomic_t() action funcs and provide default actions
Make wait_on_atomic_t() pass the TASK_* mode onto its action function as an
extra argument and make it 'unsigned int throughout.

Also, consolidate a bunch of identical action functions into a default
function that can do the appropriate thing for the mode.

Also, change the argument name in the bit_wait*() function declarations to
reflect the fact that it's the mode and not the bit number.

[Peter Z gives this a grudging ACK, but thinks that the whole atomic_t wait
should be done differently, though he's not immediately sure as to how]

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 11139

and resulted in the first patch in this series.

If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930

and resulted in the second patch in this series.

 - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
   GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
   LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
   GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
   ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
   LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
   LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

6aa7de0591 locking/atomics: COCCINELLE/treewide: Convert trivial ACCESS_ONCE() patterns to READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE()
Please do not apply this to mainline directly, instead please re-run the
coccinelle script shown below and apply its output.

For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in
preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the
former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of
ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't harmful, and changing them results in
churn.

However, for some features, the read/write distinction is critical to
correct operation. To distinguish these cases, separate read/write
accessors must be used. This patch migrates (most) remaining
ACCESS_ONCE() instances to {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(), using the following
coccinelle script:

1fea73ac92 NFS: remove special-case revalidate in nfs_opendir()
Commit f5a73672d1 ("NFS: allow close-to-open cache semantics to
apply to root of NFS filesystem") added a call to
__nfs_revalidate_inode() to nfs_opendir to as the lookup
process wouldn't reliable do this.

Subsequent commit a3fbbde70a ("VFS: we need to set LOOKUP_JUMPED

unnecessary code.

b688741cb0 NFS: revalidate "." etc correctly on "open".
For correct close-to-open semantics, NFS must validate
the change attribute of a directory (or file) on open.

Since commit ecf3d1f1aa ("vfs: kill FS_REVAL_DOT by adding a
d_weak_revalidate dentry op"), open() of "." or a path ending ".." is
not revalidated reliably (except when that direct is a mount point).

Prior to that commit, "." was revalidated using nfs_lookup_revalidate()
which checks the LOOKUP_OPEN flag and forces revalidation if the flag is
set.
Since that commit, nfs_weak_revalidate() is used for NFSv3 (which
ignores the flags) and nothing is used for NFSv4.

This is fixed by using nfs_lookup_verify_inode() in
nfs_weak_revalidate(). This does the revalidation exactly when needed.
Also, add a definition of .d_weak_revalidate for NFSv4.

The incorrect behavior is easily demonstrated by running "echo *" in
some non-mountpoint NFS directory while watching network traffic.
Without this patch, "echo *" sometimes doesn't produce any traffic.
With the patch it always does.

cdb2e53fd6 NFS: Cleanup error handling in nfs_idmap_request_key()
nfs_idmap_get_desc() can't actually return zero. But if it did then
we would return ERR_PTR(0) which is NULL and the caller,
nfs_idmap_get_key(), doesn't expect that so it leads to a NULL pointer
dereference.

I've cleaned this up by changing the "<=" to "<" so it's more clear that
we don't return ERR_PTR(0).

bf4b490597 NFS: various changes relating to reporting IO errors.
1/ remove 'start' and 'end' args from nfs_file_fsync_commit().
   They aren't used.

2/ Make nfs_context_set_write_error() a "static inline" in internal.h
   so we can...

3/ Use nfs_context_set_write_error() instead of mapping_set_error()
if nfs_pageio_add_request() fails before sending any request.
NFS generally keeps errors in the open_context, not the mapping,
   so this is more consistent.

4/ If filemap_write_and_write_range() reports any error, still
check ctx->error. The value in ctx->error is likely to be
more useful. As part of this, NFS_CONTEXT_ERROR_WRITE is
cleared slightly earlier, before nfs_file_fsync_commit() is called,
rather than at the start of that function.

8224b2734a NFS: Add static NFS I/O tracepoints
Tools like tcpdump and rpcdebug can be very useful. But there are
plenty of environments where they are difficult or impossible to
use. For example, we've had customers report I/O failures during
workloads so heavy that collecting network traffic or enabling
RPC debugging are themselves onerous.

The kernel's static tracepoints are lightweight (less likely to
introduce timing changes) and efficient (the trace data is compact).
They also work in scenarios where capturing network traffic is not
possible due to lack of hardware support (some InfiniBand HCAs) or
where data or network privacy is a concern.

Introduce tracepoints that show when an NFS READ, WRITE, or COMMIT
is initiated, and when it completes. Record the arguments and
results of each operation, which are not shown by existing sunrpc
module's tracepoints.

For instance, the recorded offset and count can be used to match an
"initiate" event to a "done" event. If an NFS READ result returns
fewer bytes than requested or zero, seeing the EOF flag can be
probative. Seeing an NFS4ERR_BAD_STATEID result is also indication
of a particular class of problems. The timing information attached
to each event record can often be useful as well.

Usage example:

[root@manet tmp]# trace-cmd record -e nfs:*initiate* -e nfs:*done
/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/nfs/*initiate*/filter
/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/nfs/*done/filter
Hit Ctrl^C to stop recording
^CKernel buffer statistics:
Note: "entries" are the entries left in the kernel ring buffer and are not
recorded in the trace data. They should all be zero.

CPU: 0
entries: 0
overrun: 0
commit overrun: 0
bytes: 3680
oldest event ts: 78.367422
now ts: 100.124419
dropped events: 0
read events: 74

... and so on.

e973b1a599 NFS: Sync the correct byte range during synchronous writes
Since commit 18290650b1 ("NFS: Move buffered I/O locking into
nfs_file_write()") nfs_file_write() has not flushed the correct byte
range during synchronous writes. generic_write_sync() expects that
iocb->ki_pos points to the right edge of the range rather than the
left edge.

To replicate the problem, open a file with O_DSYNC, have the client
write at increasing offsets, and then print the successful offsets.
Block port 2049 partway through that sequence, and observe that the
client application indicates successful writes in advance of what the
server received.

26b433d0da fscache: remove unused ->now_uncached callback
Patch series "Ranged pagevec lookup", v2.

In this series I make pagevec_lookup() update the index (to be
consistent with pagevec_lookup_tag() and also as a preparation for
ranged lookups), provide ranged variant of pagevec_lookup() and use it
in places where it makes sense. This not only removes some common code
but is also a measurable performance win for some use cases (see patch
4/10) where radix tree is sparse and searching & grabing of a page after
the end of the range has measurable overhead.

This patch (of 10):

The callback doesn't ever get called. Remove it.

779eafab06 NFS: flush data when locking a file to ensure cache coherence for mmap.
When a byte range lock (or flock) is taken out on an NFS file, the
validity of the cached data is checked and the inode is marked
NFS_INODE_INVALID_DATA. However the cached data isn't flushed from
the page cache.

This is sufficient for future read() requests or mmap() requests as
they call nfs_revalidate_mapping() which performs the flush if
necessary.

However an existing mapping is not affected. Accessing data through
that mapping will continue to return old data even though the inode is
marked NFS_INODE_INVALID_DATA.

This can easily be confirmed using the 'nfs' tool in
  git://github.com/okirch/twopence-nfs.git
and running

   nfs coherence FILENAME
on one client, and
   nfs coherence -r FILENAME
on another client.

It appears that prior to Linux 2.6.0 this worked correctly.

However commit:

http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/history/history.git/commit/?id=ca9268fe3ddd075714005adecd4afbd7f9ab87d0

removed the call to inode_invalidate_pages() from nfs_zap_caches(). I
haven't tested this code, but inspection suggests that prior to this
commit, file locking would invalidate all inode pages.

This patch adds a call to nfs_revalidate_mapping() after a
successful SETLK so that invalid data is flushed. With this patch the
above test passes. To minimize impact (and possibly avoid a GETATTR
call) this only happens if the mapping might be mapped into
userspace.

74d46992e0 block: replace bi_bdev with a gendisk pointer and partitions index
This way we don't need a block_device structure to submit I/O. The
block_device has different life time rules from the gendisk and
request_queue and is usually only available when the block device node
is open. Other callers need to explicitly create one (e.g. the lightnvm
passthrough code, or the new nvme multipathing code).

For the actual I/O path all that we need is the gendisk, which exists
once per block device. But given that the block layer also does
partition remapping we additionally need a partition index, which is
used for said remapping in generic_make_request.

Note that all the block drivers generally want request_queue or
sometimes the gendisk, so this removes a layer of indirection all
over the stack.

53a75f22e7 NFS: Fix NFSv2 security settings
For a while now any NFSv2 mount where sec= is specified uses
AUTH_NULL. If sec= is not specified, the mount uses AUTH_UNIX.
Commit e68fd7c807 ("mount: use sec= that was specified on the
command line") attempted to address a very similar problem with
NFSv3, and should have fixed this too, but it has a bug.

The MNTv1 MNT procedure does not return a list of security flavors,
so our client makes up a list containing just AUTH_NULL. This should
enable nfs_verify_authflavors() to assign the sec= specified flavor,
but instead, it incorrectly sets it to AUTH_NULL.

I expect this would also be a problem for any NFSv3 server whose
MNTv3 MNT procedure returned a security flavor list containing only
AUTH_NULL.

b79e87e070 NFSv4.1: don't use machine credentials for CLOSE when using 'sec=sys'
An NFSv4.1 client might close a file after the user who opened it has
logged off. In this case the user's credentials may no longer be
valid, if they are e.g. kerberos credentials that have expired.

NFSv4.1 has a mechanism to allow the client to use machine credentials
to close a file. However due to a short-coming in the RFC, a CLOSE
with those credentials may not be possible if the file in question
isn't exported to the same security flavor - the required PUTFH must
be rejected when this is the case.

Specifically if a server and client support kerberos in general and
have used it to form a machine credential, but the file is only
exported to "sec=sys", a PUTFH with the machine credentials will fail,
so CLOSE is not possible.

As RPC_AUTH_UNIX (used by sec=sys) credentials can never expire, there
is no value in using the machine credential in place of them.
So in that case, just use the users credentials for CLOSE etc, as you would
in NFSv4.0

14abcb0bf5 NFSv4: Fix up mirror allocation
There are a number of callers of nfs_pageio_complete() that want to
continue using the nfs_pageio_descriptor without needing to call
nfs_pageio_init() again. Examples include nfs_pageio_resend() and
nfs_pageio_cond_complete().

The problem is that nfs_pageio_complete() also calls
nfs_pageio_cleanup_mirroring(), which frees up the array of mirrors.
This can lead to writeback errors, in the next call to
nfs_pageio_setup_mirroring().

Fix by simply moving the allocation of the mirrors to
nfs_pageio_setup_mirroring().

1) Lock page head request

Note that there is a subtle race with nfs_inode_remove_request() due
to the fact that the latter does not lock the page head, when removing
it from the struct page. Only the last subrequest is locked, hence
we need to re-check that the PagePrivate(page) is still set after

8a9d6e964d pnfs/blocklayout: require 64-bit sector_t
The blocklayout code does not compile cleanly for a 32-bit sector_t,
and also has no reliable checks for devices sizes, which makes it
unsafe to use with a kernel that doesn't support large block devices.

b7dbcc0e43 NFSv4.1: Fix a race where CB_NOTIFY_LOCK fails to wake a waiter
nfs4_retry_setlk() sets the task's state to TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE within the
same region protected by the wait_queue's lock after checking for a
notification from CB_NOTIFY_LOCK callback. However, after releasing that
lock, a wakeup for that task may race in before the call to
freezable_schedule_timeout_interruptible() and set TASK_WAKING, then
freezable_schedule_timeout_interruptible() will set the state back to
TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE before the task will sleep. The result is that the task
will sleep for the entire duration of the timeout.

Since we've already set TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE in the locked section, just use
freezable_schedule_timout() instead.

6ba80d4348 NFS: Optimize fallocate by refreshing mapping when needed.
posix_fallocate() will allocate space in an NFS file by considering
the last byte of every 4K block. If it is before EOF, it will read
the byte and if it is zero, a zero is written out. If it is after EOF,
the zero is unconditionally written.

For the blocks beyond EOF, if NFS believes its cache is valid, it will
expand these writes to write full pages, and then will merge the pages.
This results if (typically) 1MB writes. If NFS believes its cache is
not valid (particularly if NFS_INO_INVALID_DATA or
NFS_INO_REVAL_PAGECACHE are set - see nfs_write_pageuptodate()), it will
send the individual 1-byte writes. This results in (typically) 256 times
as many RPC requests, and can be substantially slower.

Currently nfs_revalidate_mapping() is only used when reading a file or
mmapping a file, as these are times when the content needs to be
up-to-date. Writes don't generally need the cache to be up-to-date, but
writes beyond EOF can benefit, particularly in the posix_fallocate()
case.

So this patch calls nfs_revalidate_mapping() when writing beyond EOF -
i.e. when there is a gap between the end of the file and the start of
the write. If the cache is thought to be out of date (as happens after
taking a file lock), this will cause a GETATTR, and the two flags
mentioned above will be cleared. With this, posix_fallocate() on a
newly locked file does not generate excessive tiny writes.

442ce0499c NFS: invalidate file size when taking a lock.
Prior to commit ca0daa277a ("NFS: Cache aggressively when file is open
for writing"), NFS would revalidate, or invalidate, the file size when
taking a lock. Since that commit it only invalidates the file content.

If the file size is changed on the server while wait for the lock, the
client will have an incorrect understanding of the file size and could
corrupt data. This particularly happens when writing beyond the
(supposed) end of file and can be easily be demonstrated with
posix_fallocate().

If an application opens an empty file, waits for a write lock, and then
calls posix_fallocate(), glibc will determine that the underlying
filesystem doesn't support fallocate (assuming version 4.1 or earlier)
and will write out a '0' byte at the end of each 4K page in the region
being fallocated that is after the end of the file.
NFS will (usually) detect that these writes are beyond EOF and will
expand them to cover the whole page, and then will merge the pages.
Consequently, NFS will write out large blocks of zeroes beyond where it
thought EOF was. If EOF had moved, the pre-existing part of the file
will be over-written. Locking should have protected against this,
but it doesn't.

This patch restores the use of nfs_zap_caches() which invalidated the
cached attributes. When posix_fallocate() asks for the file size, the
request will go to the server and get a correct answer.

b4f937cffa NFS: Don't run wake_up_bit() when nobody is waiting...
"perf lock" shows fairly heavy contention for the bit waitqueue locks
when doing an I/O heavy workload.
Use a bit to tell whether or not there has been contention for a lock
so that we can optimise away the bit waitqueue options in those cases.

20fa190272 nfs: add export operations
This support for opening files on NFS by file handle, both through the
open_by_handle syscall, and for re-exporting NFS (for example using a
different version). The support is very basic for now, as each open by
handle will have to do an NFSv4 open operation on the wire. In the
future this will hopefully be mitigated by an open file cache, as well
as various optimizations in NFS for this specific case.

6240300597 Chuck's RDMA update overhauls the "call receive" side of the

of function-pointer casts and declaring the operation vectors as const.

Christoph's changes touch both client and server, and both client and
server pulls this time around should be based on the same commits from
 Christoph.

(Note: Anna and I initially didn't coordinate this well and we realized
our pull requests were going to leave you with Christoph's 33 patches
duplicated between our two trees. We decided a last-minute rebase was
the lesser of two evils, so her pull request will show that last-minute
rebase. Yell if that was the wrong choice, and we'll know better for
 next time....)
