drm/i915/icl: Program DSI Escape clock Divider
Escape Clock is used for LP communication across the DSI Link. To achieve the constant frequency of the escape clock from the variable DPLL frequency output, a variable divider(M) is needed. This patch programs the same. v2: (Jani N) Don't end line with "(". drm/i915/dsi: rename the current DSI files based on first platform
Starting from ICL or gen 11 we have a new DSI block which requires completely different programming from the current implementation. Having them in the same file would be confusing. Rename the current DSI and DSI PLL implementation files as vlv_dsi.c and vlv_dsi_pll.c. No functional changes. v2: use "gen7" prefix. v3: use "vlv" prefix. drm/i915: Split i915_gem_timeline into individual timelines
We need to move to a more flexible timeline that doesn't assume one fence context per engine, and so allow for a single timeline to be used across a combination of engines. This means that preallocating a fence context per engine is now a hindrance, and so we want to introduce the singular timeline. From the code perspective, this has the notable advantage of clearing up a lot of mirky semantics and some clumsy pointer chasing. By splitting the timeline up into a single entity rather than an array of per-engine timelines, we can realise the goal of the previous patch of tracking the timeline alongside the ring. v2: Tweak wait_for_idle to stop the compiling thinking that ret may be uninitialised. drm/i915: Implement dynamic GuC WOPCM offset and size calculation
Hardware may have specific restrictions on GuC WOPCM offset and size. On Gen9, the value of the GuC WOPCM size register needs to be larger than the value of GuC WOPCM offset register + a Gen9 specific offset (144KB) for reserved GuC WOPCM. Fail to enforce such a restriction on GuC WOPCM size will lead to GuC firmware execution failures. On the other hand, with current static GuC WOPCM offset and size values (512KB for both offset and size), the GuC WOPCM size verification will fail on Gen9 even if it can be fixed by lowering the GuC WOPCM offset by calculating its value based on HuC firmware size (which is likely less than 200KB on Gen9), so that we can have a GuC WOPCM size value which is large enough to pass the GuC WOPCM size check. This patch updates the reserved GuC WOPCM size for RC6 context on Gen9 to 24KB to strictly align with the Gen9 GuC WOPCM layout. It also adds support to verify the GuC WOPCM size aganist the Gen9 hardware restrictions. To meet all above requirements, let's provide dynamic partitioning of the WOPCM that will be based on platform specific HuC/GuC firmware sizes. v2: - Removed intel_wopcm_init (Ville/Sagar/Joonas) - Renamed and Moved the intel_wopcm_partition into intel_guc (Sagar) - Removed unnecessary function calls (Joonas) - Init GuC WOPCM partition as soon as firmware fetching is completed v3: - Fixed indentation issues (Chris) - Removed layering violation code (Chris/Michal) - Created separat files for GuC wopcm code (Michal) - Used inline function to avoid code duplication (Michal) v4: - Preset the GuC WOPCM top during early GuC init (Chris) - Fail intel_uc_init_hw() as soon as GuC WOPCM partitioning failed v5: - Moved GuC DMA WOPCM register updating code into intel_wopcm.c - Took care of the locking status before writing to GuC DMA Write-Once registers. drm/i915: add query uAPI
There are a number of information that are readable from hardware registers and that we would like to make accessible to userspace. One particular example is the topology of the execution units (how are execution units grouped in subslices and slices and also which ones have been fused off for die recovery). At the moment the GET_PARAM ioctl covers some basic needs, but generally is only able to return a single value for each defined parameter. This is a bit problematic with topology descriptions which are array/maps of available units. This change introduces a new ioctl that can deal with requests to fill structures of potentially variable lengths. The user is expected fill a query with length fields set at 0 on the first call, the kernel then sets the length fields to the their expected values. A second call to the kernel with length fields at their expected values will trigger a copy of the data to the pointed memory locations. The scope of this uAPI is only to provide information to userspace, not to allow configuration of the device. v2: Simplify dispatcher code iteration (Tvrtko) Tweak uapi drm_i915_query_item structure (Tvrtko) v3: Rename pad fields into flags (Chris) Return error on flags field != 0 (Chris) Only copy length back to userspace in drm_i915_query_item (Chris) v4: Use array of functions instead of switch (Chris) v5: More comments in uapi (Tvrtko) Return query item errors in length field (All) v6: Tweak uapi comments style to match the coding style (Lionel) v7: Add i915_query.h (Joonas) v8: (Lionel) Change the behavior of the item iterator to report invalid queries into the query item rather than stopping the iteration. This enables userspace applications to query newer items on older kernels and only have failure on the items that are not supported. v9: Edit copyright headers (Joonas) v10: Typos & comments in uapi (Joonas) Signed-off-by: Lionel Landwerlin <lionel.g.landwerlin@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin@intel.com> Acked-by: Chris Wilson <chris@chris-wilson.co.uk> Reviewed-by: Joonas Lahtinen <joonas.lahtinen@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20180306122857.27317-6-lionel.g.landwerlin@intel.com |

drm/i915: Rename drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request
We want to de-emphasize the link between the request (dependency, execution and fence tracking) from GEM and so rename the struct from drm_i915_gem_request to i915_request. That is we may implement the GEM user interface on top of requests, but they are an abstraction for tracking execution rather than an implementation detail of GEM. (Since they are not tied to HW, we keep the i915 prefix as opposed to intel.) In short, the spatch: @@ @@ - struct drm_i915_gem_request + struct i915_request A corollary to contracting the type name, we also harmonise on using 'rq' shorthand for local variables where space if of the essence and repetition makes 'request' unwieldy. For globals and struct members, 'request' is still much preferred for its clarity. drm/i915/pmu: Expose a PMU interface for perf queries
From: Chris Wilson <chris@chris-wilson.co.uk> From: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin@intel.com> From: Dmitry Rogozhkin <dmitry.v.rogozhkin@intel.com> The first goal is to be able to measure GPU (and invidual ring) busyness without having to poll registers from userspace. (Which not only incurs holding the forcewake lock indefinitely, perturbing the system, but also runs the risk of hanging the machine.) As an alternative we can use the perf event counter interface to sample the ring registers periodically and send those results to userspace. Functionality we are exporting to userspace is via the existing perf PMU API and can be exercised via the existing tools. For example: perf stat -a -e i915/rcs0-busy/ -I 1000 Will print the render engine busynnes once per second. All the performance counters can be enumerated (perf list) and have their unit of measure correctly reported in sysfs. v1-v2 (Chris Wilson): v2: Use a common timer for the ring sampling. v3: (Tvrtko Ursulin) * Decouple uAPI from i915 engine ids. * Complete uAPI defines. * Refactor some code to helpers for clarity. * Skip sampling disabled engines. * Expose counters in sysfs. * Pass in fake regs to avoid null ptr deref in perf core. * Convert to class/instance uAPI. * Use shared driver code for rc6 residency, power and frequency. v4: (Dmitry Rogozhkin) * Register PMU with .task_ctx_nr=perf_invalid_context * Expose cpumask for the PMU with the single CPU in the mask * Properly support pmu->stop(): it should call pmu->read() * Properly support pmu->del(): it should call stop(event, PERF_EF_UPDATE) * Introduce refcounting of event subscriptions. * Make pmu.busy_stats a refcounter to avoid busy stats going away with some deleted event. * Expose cpumask for i915 PMU to avoid multiple events creation of the same type followed by counter aggregation by perf-stat. * Track CPUs getting online/offline to migrate perf context. If (likely) cpumask will initially set CPU0, CONFIG_BOOTPARAM_HOTPLUG_CPU0 will be needed to see effect of CPU status tracking. * End result is that only global events are supported and perf stat works correctly. * Deny perf driver level sampling - it is prohibited for uncore PMU. v5: (Tvrtko Ursulin) * Don't hardcode number of engine samplers. * Rewrite event ref-counting for correctness and simplicity. * Store initial counter value when starting already enabled events to correctly report values to all listeners. * Fix RC6 residency readout. * Comments, GPL header. v6: * Add missing entry to v4 changelog. * Fix accounting in CPU hotplug case by copying the approach from arch/x86/events/intel/cstate.c. (Dmitry Rogozhkin) v7: * Log failure message only on failure. * Remove CPU hotplug notification state on unregister. v8: * Fix error unwind on failed registration. * Checkpatch cleanup. v9: * Drop the energy metric, it is available via intel_rapl_perf. (Ville Syrjälä) * Use HAS_RC6(p). (Chris Wilson) * Handle unsupported non-engine events. (Dmitry Rogozhkin) * Rebase for intel_rc6_residency_ns needing caller managed runtime pm. * Drop HAS_RC6 checks from the read callback since creating those events will be rejected at init time already. * Add counter units to sysfs so perf stat output is nicer. * Cleanup the attribute tables for brevity and readability. v10: * Fixed queued accounting. v11: * Move intel_engine_lookup_user to intel_engine_cs.c * Commit update. (Joonas Lahtinen) v12: * More accurate sampling. (Chris Wilson) * Store and report frequency in MHz for better usability from perf stat. * Removed metrics: queued, interrupts, rc6 counters. * Sample engine busyness based on seqno difference only for less MMIO (and forcewake) on all platforms. (Chris Wilson) v13: * Comment spelling, use mul_u32_u32 to work around potential GCC issue and somne code alignment changes. (Chris Wilson) v14: * Rebase. v15: * Rebase for RPS refactoring. v16: * Use the dynamic slot in the CPU hotplug state machine so that we are free to setup our state as multi-instance. Previously we were re-using the CPUHP_AP_PERF_X86_UNCORE_ONLINE slot which is neither used as multi-instance, nor owned by our driver to start with. * Register the CPU hotplug handlers after the PMU, otherwise the callback will get called before the PMU is initialized which can end up in perf_pmu_migrate_context with an un-initialized base. * Added workaround for a probable bug in cpuhp core. v17: * Remove workaround for the cpuhp bug. v18: * Rebase for drm_i915_gem_engine_class getting upstream before us. v19: * Rebase. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. drm/i915: Replace "cc-option -Wno-foo" with "cc-disable-warning foo"
To quote kbuild/makefiles.txt:
cc-disable-warning checks if gcc supports a given warning and returns
the commandline switch to disable it. This special function is needed,
because gcc 4.4 and later accept any unknown -Wno-* option and only
warn about it if there is another warning in the source file.
This is exactly what we were trying to achieve with cc-option -Wno-foo and
failed miserably.

drm/i915: Add -Wall -Wextra to our build, set warnings to full
Recently W=1 on gcc-7.2 (-Wunused-const-variable) caught a regression that had been lurking for 6 months, so lets try enabling the full set of warnings for CI builds. This means more patches will be rejected early that contain trivial and sometimes not so trivial bugs. However, our code does not yet compile cleanly with W=1, so we have to apply a filter to the set of warnings until we can eliminate the mistakes. It also means that developers will have to be running the full gamut of gcc to ensure that as warnings come and go with gcc updates, we have the CI build prepared. v2: Use fine-grained -Wno overrides. Inside the makefile, we can specify CFLAGS on a per-object level, which allows us to limit the scope of any particular warning override. v3: Place per-file overrides after the main enabling block. drm/i915: Split obj->cache_coherent to track r/w
Another month, another story in the cache coherency saga. This time, we
come to the realisation that i915_gem_object_is_coherent() has been
reporting whether we can read from the target without requiring a cache
invalidate; but we were using it in places for testing whether we could
write into the object without requiring a cache flush. So split the
tracking into two, one to decide before reads, one after writes.

But now with the ability to add fences to obj->resv for both flips and execbuf (and we naturally wait on the fence before CPU access), we can move the clflush operation to a workqueue and signal a fence for completion, thereby doing the work asynchronously and not blocking the driver or its clients. v2: Introduce i915_gem_clflush.h and use a new name, split out some extras into separate patches. drm/i915: Provide a hook for selftests
Some pieces of code are independent of hardware but are very tricky to exercise through the normal userspace ABI or via debugfs hooks. Being able to create mock unit tests and execute them through CI is vital. Start by adding a central point where we can execute unit tests and a parameter to enable them. This is disabled by default as the expectation is that these tests will occasionally explode. To facilitate integration with igt, any parameter beginning with i915.igt__ is interpreted as a subtest executable independently via igt/drv_selftest. Two classes of selftests are recognised: mock unit tests and integration tests. Mock unit tests are run as soon as the module is loaded, before the device is probed. At that point there is no driver instantiated and all hw interactions must be "mocked". This is very useful for writing universal tests to exercise code not typically run on a broad range of architectures. Alternatively, you can hook into the live selftests and run when the device has been instantiated - hw interactions are real. v2: Add a macro for compiling conditional code for mock objects inside real objects. v3: Differentiate between mock unit tests and late integration test. v4: List the tests in natural order, use igt to sort after modparam. v5: s/late/live/ v6: s/unsigned long/unsigned int/ v7: Use igt_ prefixes for long helpers. v8: Deobfuscate macros overriding functions, stop using -I$(src) Signed-off-by: Chris Wilson <chris@chris-wilson.co.uk> Reviewed-by: Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko.ursulin@intel.com> Link: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20170213171558.20942-1-chris@chris-wilson.co.uk |

drm/i915: Move most cdclk/rawclk related code to intel_cdclk.c
Let's try to shrink intel_display.c a bit by moving the cdclk/rawclk stuff to a new file. It's all reasonably self contained so we don't even have to add that many non-static symbols. We'll also take the opportunity to shuffle around the functions a bit to get things in a more consistent order based on the platform. v2: Add kernel-docs (Ander) v3: Deal with IS_GEN9_BC() v4: Deal with i945gm_get_cdclk() Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Ander Conselvan de Oliveira <conselvan2@gmail.com> Link: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20170207183305.19656-1-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com |

drm/i915: setup bridge for HDMI LPE audio driver
Enable support for HDMI LPE audio mode on Baytrail and Cherrytrail when HDaudio controller is not detected Setup minimum required resources during i915_driver_load: 1. Create a platform device to share MMIO/IRQ resources 2. Make the platform device child of i915 device for runtime PM. 3. Create IRQ chip to forward HDMI LPE audio irqs. HDMI LPE audio driver (a standalone sound driver) probes the LPE audio device and creates a new sound card. drm/i915/huc: Add HuC fw loading support
The HuC loading process is similar to GuC. The intel_uc_fw_fetch() is used for both cases. HuC loading needs to be before GuC loading. The WOPCM setting must be done early before loading any of them. v2: rebased on-top of drm-intel-nightly. removed if(HAS_GUC()) before the guc call. (D.Gordon) update huc_version number of format. v3: rebased to drm-intel-nightly, changed the file name format to match the one in the huc package. Changed dev->dev_private to to_i915() v4: moved function back to where it was. change wait_for_atomic to wait_for. v5: rebased. Changed the year in the copyright message to reflect the right year.Correct the comments, remove the unwanted WARN message, replace drm_gem_object_unreference() with i915_gem_object_put().Make the prototypes in intel_huc.h non-extern. v6: rebased. Update the file construction done by HuC. It is similar to GuC.Adopted the approach used in- https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/104355/ <Tvrtko Ursulin> v7: Change dev to dev_priv in macro definition. Corrected comments. v8: rebased on top of drm-tip. Updated functions intel_huc_load(), intel_huc_init() and intel_uc_fw_fetch() to accept dev_priv instead of dev. Moved contents of intel_huc.h to intel_uc.h. v9: change SKL_FW_ to SKL_HUC_FW_. Add intel_ prefix to guc_wopcm_size(). Remove unwanted checks in intel_uc.h. Rename huc_fw in struct intel_huc to simply fw to avoid redundency. v10: rebased. Correct comments. Make intel_huc_fini() accept dev_priv instead of dev like intel_huc_init() and intel_huc_load().Move definition to i915_guc_reg.h from intel_uc.h. Clean DMA_CTRL bits after HuC DMA transfer in huc_ucode_xfer() instead of guc_ucode_xfer(). Add suitable WARNs to give extra info. v11: rebased. Add proper bias for HuC and make sure there are asserts on failure by using guc_ggtt_offset_vma(). Introduce intel_huc.c and remove intel_huc_loader.c since it has functions that do more than just loading.Correct year in copyright. v12: remove invalidates that are not required anymore.
