Wenn a package is removed nothing restores the thermal interrupt MSR so
the content will be stale when a CPU of that package becomes online again.
Aside of that the work function reenables interrupts before acknowledging
the current one, which is the wrong order to begin with.

In the critical sysfs entry the thermal hwmon was returning wrong
temperature to the user-space. It was reporting the temperature of the
first trip point instead of the temperature of critical trip point.
For example:
/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/temp1_crit:50000
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_0_temp:50000
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_0_type:active
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_3_temp:120000
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point_3_type:critical
Since commit e68b16abd9 ("thermal: add hwmon sysfs I/F") the driver
have been registering a sysfs entry if get_crit_temp() callback was
provided. However when accessed, it was calling get_trip_temp() instead
of the get_crit_temp().

Kthreads are currently implemented as an infinite loop. Each
has its own variant of checks for terminating, freezing,
awakening. In many cases it is unclear to say in which state
it is and sometimes it is done a wrong way.
The plan is to convert kthreads into kthread_worker or workqueues
API. It allows to split the functionality into separate operations.
It helps to make a better structure. Also it defines a clean state
where no locks are taken, IRQs blocked, the kthread might sleep
or even be safely migrated.
The kthread worker API is useful when we want to have a dedicated
single thread for the work. It helps to make sure that it is
available when needed. Also it allows a better control, e.g.
define a scheduling priority.
This patch converts the intel powerclamp kthreads into the kthread
worker because they need to have a good control over the assigned
CPUs.
IMHO, the most natural way is to split one cycle into two works.
First one does some balancing and let the CPU work normal
way for some time. The second work checks what the CPU has done
in the meantime and put it into C-state to reach the required
idle time ratio. The delay between the two works is achieved
by the delayed kthread work.
The two works have to share some data that used to be local
variables of the single kthread function. This is achieved
by the new per-CPU struct kthread_worker_data. It might look
as a complication. On the other hand, the long original kthread
function was not nice either.
The patch tries to avoid extra init and cleanup works. All the
actions might be done outside the thread. They are moved
to the functions that create or destroy the worker. Especially,
I checked that the timers are assigned to the right CPU.
The two works are queuing each other. It makes it a bit tricky to
break it when we want to stop the worker. We use the global and
per-worker "clamping" variables to make sure that the re-queuing
eventually stops. We also cancel the works to make it faster.
Note that the canceling is not reliable because the handling
of the two variables and queuing is not synchronized via a lock.
But it is not a big deal because it is just an optimization.
The job is stopped faster than before in most cases.

When the devfreq cooling device was designed, it was an oversight not to
pass a pointer to the struct devfreq as the first parameters of the
callbacks. The design patterns of the kernel suggest it for a good
reason.
By passing a pointer to struct devfreq, the driver can register one
function that works with multiple devices. With the current
implementation, a driver that can work with multiple devices has to
create multiple copies of the same function with different parameters so
that each devfreq_cooling_device can use the appropriate one. By
passing a pointer to struct devfreq, the driver can identify which
device it's referring to.

Static family IDs have never really been used, the only
use case was the workaround I introduced for those users
that assumed their family ID was also their multicast
group ID.
Additionally, because static family IDs would never be
reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively
low ID would only work for built-in families that can be
registered immediately after generic netlink is started,
which is basically only the control family (apart from
the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so
it would reserve those IDs)
Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and
luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move
those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get
rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust.

This adds support for hardware-tracked trip points to the device tree
thermal sensor framework.
The framework supports an arbitrary number of trip points. Whenever
the current temperature is updated, the trip points immediately
below and above the current temperature are found. A .set_trips
callback is then called with the temperatures. If there is no trip
point above or below the current temperature, the passed trip
temperature will be -INT_MAX or INT_MAX respectively. In this callback,
the driver should program the hardware such that it is notified
when either of these trip points are triggered. When a trip point
is triggered, the driver should call `thermal_zone_device_update'
for the respective thermal zone. This will cause the trip points
to be updated again.
If .set_trips is not implemented, the framework behaves as before.

Also GCC/TSENS are part of a domain thats not always ON.
Hence add .suspend and .resume hooks to save and restore some of
the inited register context.
Also 8960 family have some of the TSENS init sequence thats
required to be done by the HLOS driver (some later versions of TSENS
do not export these registers to non-secure world, and hence need
these initializations to be done by secure bootloaders)

Currently all CPU cooling devices share a
`struct thermal_cooling_device_ops` instance. The thermal core uses the
presence of functions in this struct to determine if a cooling device
has a power model (see cdev_is_power_actor). cpu_cooling.c adds the
power model functions to the shared struct when a device is registered
with a power model.
Therefore, if a CPU cooling device is registered using
[of_]cpufreq_power_cooling_register, _all_ devices will be determined to
have a power model, including any registered with
[of_]cpufreq_cooling_register. This can result in cpufreq_state2power
being called on a device where dyn_power_table is NULL.
With this commit, instead of having a shared thermal_cooling_device_ops
which is mutated, we have two versions: one with the power functions and
one without.

When multiple thermal zones are bound to the same cooling device, multiple
kernel threads may want to update the cooling device state by calling
thermal_cdev_update(). Having cdev not protected by a mutex can lead to a race
condition. Consider the following situation with two kernel threads k1 and k2:
Thread k1 Thread k2
||
|| call thermal_cdev_update()
|| ...
|| set_cur_state(cdev, target);
call power_actor_set_power() ||
... ||
instance->target = state; ||
cdev->updated = false; ||
|| cdev->updated = true;
|| // completes execution
call thermal_cdev_update() ||
// cdev->updated == true ||
return; ||
\/
time
k2 has already looped through the thermal instances looking for the deepest
cooling device state and is preempted right before setting cdev->updated to
true. Now, k1 runs, modifies the thermal instance state and sets cdev->updated
to false. Then, k1 is preempted and k2 continues the execution by setting
cdev->updated to true, therefore preventing k1 from performing the update.
Notice that this is not an issue if k2 looks at the instance->target modified by
k1 "after" it is assigned by k1. In fact, in this case the update will happen
anyway and k1 can safely return immediately from thermal_cdev_update().
This may lead to a situation where a thermal governor never updates the cooling
device. For example, this is the case for the step_wise governor: when calling

equal to the old one (which, however, wasn't notified to the cooling device) and
will therefore skip the update.

Most of the callers of cpufreq_frequency_get_table() already have the
pointer to a valid 'policy' structure and they don't really need to go
through the per-cpu variable first and then a check to validate the
frequency, in order to find the freq-table for the policy.
Directly use the policy->freq_table field instead for them.
Only one user of that API is left after above changes, cpu_cooling.c and
it accesses the freq_table in a racy way as the policy can get freed in
between.
Fix it by using cpufreq_cpu_get() properly.
Since there are no more users of cpufreq_frequency_get_table() left, get

[ 2.040749] LR is at __enable_irq+0x74/0x84
This warning is for IRQ imbalance enabling, which is caused by
enable_irq() twice. During sensor's initialization it tries to enable
IRQ, the driver will call thermal_zone_of_sensor_register() to bind
sensors and read sensor's temperature. But at this moment the flag
"data->irq_enabled" has been not initialized as correct state, so it
finally introduces the function enabled_irq() to be called twice. In
essentially this is caused by the flag "data->irq_enabled" is
inconsistent with real hardware IRQ enabling state.
So this patch is to fix this issue, firstly init "irq_enabled" flag
before binding sensors to thermal zone. Also change to use the function
irq_get_irqchip_state() to read back real interrupt line state.

In current code sensor driver registers all 4 sensors together and if
any of them has not bound to thermal zone successfully then driver will
return failure for driver's initialization. As a result, if DT binds
thermal zone with only one sensor, then the thermal driver will not work
well anymore.
So this patch is to fix this issue. It allows the thermal sensor driver
can register any number sensors at initialization phase, and fix up code
for other related code to skip related sensor's accessing if the sensor
has not been enabled in initialization phase.

When performing a suspend operation, the kernel brings all of the
non-boot CPUs offline, calling the hot plug notifiers with the flag,
CPU_TASKS_FROZEN, set in the action code. Similarly, during resume,
the CPUs are brought back online, but again the notifiers have the
FROZEN flag set.
While some very few drivers really need to treat suspend/resume
specially, this driver unintentionally ignores the notifications.
This patch changes the driver to cancel its work item when the CPU
goes down, even during a suspend operation. As a result, the
suspended state is no longer a special case.

Hysteresis is a required property in the device tree for trip points, but it is
an optional thermal zone device operation. Hence, we need to check whether the

highly varying temperature will make the governor continuosly switch a cooling

In some cases, platform thermal driver may report invalid trip points,
thermal core should not take any action for these trip points.
This fixed a regression that bogus trip point starts to screw up thermal

Thermal: initialize thermal zone device correctly
After thermal zone device registered, as we have not read any
temperature before, thus tz->temperature should not be 0,
which actually means 0C, and thermal trend is not available.
In this case, we need specially handling for the first
thermal_zone_device_update().
Both thermal core framework and step_wise governor is
enhanced to handle this. And since the step_wise governor
is the only one that uses trends, so it's the only thermal
governor that needs to be updated.

The driver doesn't check if the regulator_get_optional return value is
-EPROBE_DEFER so it will wrongly assume that the regulator couldn't be
found just because the regulator driver wasn't registered yet, i.e:
exynos-tmu 10060000.tmu: Regulator node (vtmu) not found
In this case the return value should be propagated to allow the driver
probe function to be deferred until the regulator driver is registered.

The Exynos TMU DT binding says that the vtmu-supply is optional but the
driver uses devm_regulator_get() that creates a dummy regulator if it's
not defined in the DT. For example the following message is in the log:
10060000.tmu supply vtmu not found, using dummy regulator
Use the optional version of regulator_get() that doesn't create a dummy
regulator and instead returns a -ENODEV errno code. Since it's expected
that a regulator may not be defined and the driver will inform about it:
exynos-tmu 10060000.tmu: Regulator node (vtmu) not found

When DeviveTree contains more trip-points than SoC can configure
(usually more than four) and polling mode is not enabled, then the
remaining trip-points will be silently ignored. No interrupts will be
generated for them.
This might be quite dangerous when one provides DTB with a
non-configurable critical trip-point, like (assuming four supported
thresholds in TMU):
- alert @50 C (type: active),
- alert @60 C (type: active),
- alert @70 C (type: active),
- alert @80 C (type: active),
- critical @120 C (type: critical) <- no interrupts generated.
This is a mistake in DTB so print a message in such case.

Make use of ARCH_RENESAS in place of ARCH_SHMOBILE.
This is part of an ongoing process to migrate from ARCH_SHMOBILE to
ARCH_RENESAS the motivation for which being that RENESAS seems to be a more
appropriate name than SHMOBILE for the majority of Renesas ARM based SoCs.
