44a2d56429 drm/via: use monotonic time for VIA_WAIT_IRQ
The normal DRM vblank interrupt events started using monotonic times in
commit c61eef726a ("drm: add support for monotonic vblank timestamps"),
which is useful for a number of reasons, including the possible y2038
overflow.

The VIA_WAIT_IRQ ioctl uses the same drm_wait_vblank_reply as
DRM_IOCTL_WAIT_VBLANK, but still uses wall-clock time.

This converts it to using monotonic time as well, which is more
consistent, and avoids problems with the y2038 overflow as well
as synchronization issues when the real time skips.

I could not find the matching user space that calls the VIA_WAIT_IRQ
ioctl to verify that this is safe, but it very likely is. Please
either test or review the user space side before applying this.

e99e88a9d2 treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using
timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already
holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes,
since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with
the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following
examples, in addition to some other variations.

Casting from unsigned long:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr);

and forced object casts:

    void my_callback(struct something *ptr)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr);

become:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

Direct function assignments:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback;

have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback;

And finally, callbacks without a data assignment:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0);

The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script:

spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \
	-I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \
	-I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \
	-I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \
	-I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \
	--dir . \
	--cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci

de7e8bd01a drm: via: use ktime_get() instead of do_gettimeofday
We want to remove uses of do_gettimeofday() from the kernel since the
resulting timeval structure overflows in 2038. This is not a problem for
this particular use, but do_gettimeofday() is also not an appropriate
method for measuring time intervals, since it requires a conversion into
microseconds and is complicated to work with.

ktime_get() is a better replacement, as it works with the monontonic
kernel timebase and requires a minimum of computation.

I'm slightly changing the output from microseconds to nanoseconds here,
to avoid introducing a new division operation. This should be fine
since the value is only used for debugging.

4e64e5539d drm: Improve drm_mm search (and fix topdown allocation) with rbtrees
The drm_mm range manager claimed to support top-down insertion, but it
was neither searching for the top-most hole that could fit the

In order to search the range efficiently, we create a secondary index
for the holes using either their size or their address. This index
allows us to find the smallest hole or the hole at the bottom or top of
the range efficiently, whilst keeping the hole stack to rapidly service
evictions.

95c081c17f drm: Move master pointer from drm_minor to drm_device
There can only be one current master, and it's for the overall device.
Render/control minors don't support master-based auth at all.

This simplifies the master logic a lot, at least in my eyes: All these
additional pointer chases are just confusing.

While doing the conversion I spotted some locking fail:
- drm_lock/drm_auth check dev->master without holding the
  master_mutex. This is fallout from

  commit c996fd0b95
  Author: Thomas Hellstrom <thellstrom@vmware.com>
  Date:   Tue Feb 25 19:57:44 2014 +0100

      drm: Protect the master management with a drm_device::master_mutex v3

  but I honestly don't care one bit about those old legacy drivers
  using this.

- debugfs name info should just grab master_mutex.

- And the fbdev helper looked at it to figure out whether someone is
  using KMS. We just need a consistent value, so READ_ONCE. Aside: We
  should probably check if anyone has opened a control node too, but I
  guess current userspace doesn't really do that yet.

09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_get() -> get_page();

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Cool, thanks a lot for stitching together the list of drivers to look
at. So for real KMS drivers it's the drives responsibility to add an
mtrr if it needs one. nouvea, radeon, mgag200, i915 and vmwgfx do that
already. Somehow the savage driver also ends up doing that, I have no
idea why.

Note that gma500 as a pure KMS driver doesn't need MTRR setup since
the platforms that it supports all support PAT. So no MTRRs needed to
get wc iomappings.

The mtrr support in the drm core is all for legacy mappings of garts,
framebuffers and registers. All legacy drivers set the USE_MTRR flag,
so we're good there.

All in all I think we can really just ditch this

b0e898ac55 drm: remove FASYNC support
So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging
that up is quite a story.

First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather
bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that
they've created SIGIO just for that ...

Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op."
comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync
helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the
kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent
out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync.

No merged drm driver has ever done that.

After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used
this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a
gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad
thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm
driver with prejudice:

commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed
Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie>

    Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ...

Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely
nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream
kernel. And we don't need any fops->fasync callback since the fcntl
implementation in the kernel already implements the noop case
correctly.

So stop this particular cargo-cult and rip it all out.

v2: Kill drm_fasync assignments in rcar (newly added) and imx drivers
(somehow I've missed that one in staging). Also drop the reference in
the drm DocBook. ARM compile-fail reported by Rob Clark.

v3: Move the removal of dev->buf_asnyc assignment in drm_setup to this
patch here.

v4: Actually git add ... tsk.

31e5d7c67b drm/mm: add "best_match" flag to drm_mm_insert_node()
Add a "best_match" flag similar to the drm_mm_search_*() helpers so we
can convert TTM to use them in follow up patches. We can also inline the
non-generic helpers and move them into the header to allow compile-time
optimizations.

To make calls to drm_mm_{search,insert}_node() more readable, this
converts the boolean argument to a flagset. There are pending patches that
add additional flags for top-down allocators and more.

v2:
 - use flag parameter instead of boolean "best_match"
 - convert *_search_free() helpers to also use flags argument

4d53233a36 drm: don't use idr_remove_all()
idr_destroy() can destroy idr by itself and idr_remove_all() is being

4126d5d61f UAPI: (Scripted) Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/.
Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/.

Remove redundant #inclusions of core DRM UAPI headers (drm.h, drm_mode.h and
drm_sarea.h).  They are now #included via drmP.h and drm_crtc.h via a preceding
patch.

Without this patch and the patch to make include the UAPI headers from the core
headers, after the UAPI split, the DRM C sources cannot find these UAPI headers
because the DRM code relies on specific -I flags to make #include "..." work
on headers in include/drm/ - but that does not work after the UAPI split without
adding more -I flags.

804d74abe2 drm: use drm_compat_ioctl for 32-bit apps
Most of the DRM drivers appear to be missing the .compat_ioctl file
operation entry necessary for 32-bit application compatibility.

This patch uses drm_compat_ioctl for all drivers which don't have
their own, and which are using drm_ioctl for .unlocked_ioctl.

This leaves drivers/gpu/drm/psb/psb_drv.c unchanged; it has a custom
.unlocked_ioctl and will presumably need a custom .compat_ioctl as
well.

834859c3ab drm/via: clean up reclaim_buffers
A few things
- kill reclaim_buffers, it's never ever called because via does not set
  DRIVER_HAVE_DMA
- inline the idlelock dance into the buffer reclaim logic and make it
  a simple preclose cleanup function
- directly call the the dma_quiescent function and kill the needless
  if check.

v2: Actually drop the idlelock when we take it. Reported by James
Simmons.

v3: Rebased onto latest drm-next.

v4: Fixup the refactor.

v5: More fixup the refactor - I've accidentally changed the check for

ce020ea532 drm via: initialize object_idr
The field obejct_idr of struct drm_via_private was introduced with the
commit http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commitdiff;h=77ee8f3825054f23b17e9c8f728f061defd86cdc .
In that patch idr_init(&dev->object_name_idr) was called instead of
idr_init(&dev_priv->object_idr) by mistake, leaving the dev_priv->object_idr
uninitialized. To be more exact, the object_idr buffer is filled with zeros
because of kzalloc(), but the dev_priv->object_idr.lock spinlock can cause
system freeze at lib/idr.c:move_to_free_list() when spin_lock_irqsave()
is called on this spinlock.

The patch was tested on Clevo D4J, model D410J laptop, on the following
hardware, without AGP kernel module loaded:
