PCI/ASPM: Add sysfs attributes for controlling ASPM link states
Add sysfs attributes to Endpoints and other Upstream Ports to control ASPM, Clock PM, and L1 PM Substates. The new attributes are: /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/clkpm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l0s_aspm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l1_aspm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l1_1_aspm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l1_2_aspm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l1_1_pcipm /sys/devices/pci*/.../link/l1_2_pcipm An attribute is only visible if both ends of the Link leading to the device support the state. Writing y/1/on to the file enables the state; n/0/off disables it. These attributes can be used to tune the power/performance tradeoff for individual devices. block: add iostat counters for flush requests
Requests that triggers flushing volatile writeback cache to disk (barriers) have significant effect to overall performance. Block layer has sophisticated engine for combining several flush requests into one. But there is no statistics for actual flushes executed by disk. Requests which trigger flushes usually are barriers - zero-size writes. This patch adds two iostat counters into /sys/class/block/$dev/stat and /proc/diskstats - count of completed flush requests and their total time. watchdog: make nowayout sysfs file writable
It can be useful to delay setting the nowayout feature for a watchdog device. Moreover, not every driver (notably gpio_wdt) implements a nowayout module parameter/otherwise respects CONFIG_WATCHDOG_NOWAYOUT, and modifying those drivers carries a risk of causing a regression for someone who has two watchdog devices, sets CONFIG_WATCHDOG_NOWAYOUT and somehow relies on the gpio_wdt driver being ignorant of that (i.e., allowing one to gracefully close a gpio_wdt but not the other watchdog in the system). So instead, simply make the nowayout sysfs file writable. Obviously, setting nowayout is a one-way street. ima: Check against blacklisted hashes for files with modsig
Asymmetric private keys are used to sign multiple files. The kernel currently supports checking against blacklisted keys. However, if the public key is blacklisted, any file signed by the blacklisted key will automatically fail signature verification. Blacklisting the public key is not fine enough granularity, as we might want to only blacklist a particular file. This patch adds support for checking against the blacklisted hash of the file, without the appended signature, based on the IMA policy. It defines a new policy option "appraise_flag=check_blacklist". In addition to the blacklisted binary hashes stored in the firmware "dbx" variable, the Linux kernel may be configured to load blacklisted binary hashes onto the .blacklist keyring as well. The following example shows how to blacklist a specific kernel module hash. $ sha256sum kernel/kheaders.ko 77fa889b35a05338ec52e51591c1b89d4c8d1c99a21251d7c22b1a8642a6bad3 kernel/kheaders.ko $ grep BLACKLIST .config CONFIG_SYSTEM_BLACKLIST_KEYRING=y CONFIG_SYSTEM_BLACKLIST_HASH_LIST="blacklist-hash-list" $ cat certs/blacklist-hash-list "bin:77fa889b35a05338ec52e51591c1b89d4c8d1c99a21251d7c22b1a8642a6bad3" Update the IMA custom measurement and appraisal policy rules (/etc/ima-policy): measure func=MODULE_CHECK template=ima-modsig appraise func=MODULE_CHECK appraise_flag=check_blacklist appraise_type=imasig|modsig After building, installing, and rebooting the kernel: 545660333 ---lswrv 0 0 \_ blacklist: bin:77fa889b35a05338ec52e51591c1b89d4c8d1c99a21251d7c22b1a8642a6bad3 measure func=MODULE_CHECK template=ima-modsig appraise func=MODULE_CHECK appraise_flag=check_blacklist appraise_type=imasig|modsig modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'kheaders': Permission denied 10 0c9834db5a0182c1fb0cdc5d3adcf11a11fd83dd ima-sig sha256:3bc6ed4f0b4d6e31bc1dbc9ef844605abc7afdc6d81a57d77a1ec9407997c40 2 /usr/lib/modules/5.4.0-rc3+/kernel/kernel/kheaders.ko 10 82aad2bcc3fa8ed94762356b5c14838f3bcfa6a0 ima-modsig sha256:3bc6ed4f0b4d6e31bc1dbc9ef844605abc7afdc6d81a57d77a1ec9407997c40 2 /usr/lib/modules/5.4.0rc3+/kernel/kernel/kheaders.ko sha256:77fa889b3 5a05338ec52e51591c1b89d4c8d1c99a21251d7c22b1a8642a6bad3 3082029a06092a864886f70d010702a082028b30820287020101310d300b0609608648 016503040201300b06092a864886f70d01070131820264.... 10 25b72217cc1152b44b134ce2cd68f12dfb71acb3 ima-buf sha256:8b58427fedcf8f4b20bc8dc007f2e232bf7285d7b93a66476321f9c2a3aa132 b blacklisted-hash 77fa889b35a05338ec52e51591c1b89d4c8d1c99a21251d7c22b1a8642a6bad3 Signed-off-by: Nayna Jain <nayna@linux.ibm.com> [zohar@linux.ibm.com: updated patch description] Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/1572492694-6520-8-git-send-email-zohar@linux.ibm.com |

x86/bugs: Add ITLB_MULTIHIT bug infrastructure
Some processors may incur a machine check error possibly resulting in an unrecoverable CPU lockup when an instruction fetch encounters a TLB multi-hit in the instruction TLB. This can occur when the page size is changed along with either the physical address or cache type. The relevant erratum can be found here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205195 There are other processors affected for which the erratum does not fully disclose the impact. This issue affects both bare-metal x86 page tables and EPT. It can be mitigated by either eliminating the use of large pages or by using careful TLB invalidations when changing the page size in the page tables. Just like Spectre, Meltdown, L1TF and MDS, a new bit has been allocated in MSR_IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES (PSCHANGE_MC_NO) and will be set on CPUs which are mitigated against this issue. thunderbolt: Add support for lane bonding
Lane bonding allows aggregating two 10/20 Gb/s (depending on the generation) lanes into a single 20/40 Gb/s bonded link. This allows sharing the full bandwidth more efficiently. In order to establish lane bonding we need to check that lane bonding is possible through link controller and that both ends of the link actually supports 2x widths. This also means that all the paths should be established through the primary port so update tb_path_alloc() to handle this as well. Lane bonding is supported starting from Falcon Ridge (2nd generation) controllers. We also expose the current speed and number of lanes under each device except the host router following similar attribute naming than USB bus. Expose speed and number of lanes for both directions to allow possibility of asymmetric link in the future. Signed-off-by: Mika Westerberg <mika.westerberg@linux.intel.com> |

platform/mellanox: Add bootctl driver for Mellanox BlueField Soc
This commit adds the bootctl platform driver for Mellanox BlueField Soc, which queries secure state and controls the eMMC boot partition swapping by sending SMC calls to ATF running at EL3. Below are the sequences of typical use case. 1. User requests boot partition swapping, which could be on-demand or during boot-image upgrade via UEFI capsule; 2. This bootctl driver handles the request and sends SMC call to ATF. ATF programs register BREADCRUMB0 which has value preserved during warm reset. It also programs eMMC to swap the boot partition; 3. After software reset (rebooting), ATF BL1 (BootRom) checks register BREADCRUMB0 and enable watchdog if configured; 4. If booting fails, the watchdog timer will trigger rebooting. In such case, ATF Boot ROM will switch the boot partition back to the previous one. This is a robust feature and used to prevent failure during boot partition upgrade. First set of IIO new device support, cleanups and features for the 5.5 cycle
Third version with the adis rework set dropped as better to just have a fresh version of that at some future date. The usual mixed backs of new device support being added to drivers, long term reworks continuing and little per driver cleanups and features. Also a few trivial counter subsystem tidy ups on behalf of William. Core new feature * Device label support. A long requested feature no one got around to implementing before. Allows DT based provision of a 'label' that identifies a device uniquely within a system. This differs from existing 'name' which is meant to be the part number. New device support * ingenic-adc - Support for the JZ4770 SoC ADC including bindings. * inv_mpu6050 - Add support for magnetometer in MPU925x parts. Fiddly to do as this is actually a separate device sitting inside the package, but with the master device being able to schedule reads etc. Will only run if the auxiliary bus is not in use for any other devices. Features * ad7192 - Userspace calibration controls to do zero and full scale. * st_lsm6dsx - Enable latched interrupts by default for sensors events with related clear. - Motion events and related wakeup source. This needed quite a bit of refactoring as well. Cleanups and minor features * ad7192 - sysfs ABI docs * ad7949 - Remove code to readback configuration word as driver never actually enabled it. - Fix incorrect xfer length. Not actually known to cause problems other than wasted bus usage. * adis16080 - Replace core mlock usage with local lock with more appropriate scope. * adis16130 - Remove pointless mlock usage. * adis16240 - Remove include of gpio.h as no gpio usage. * atlas-ph-sensor - Improve logical ordering of buffer predisable / postenable functions. Will only run if the auxiliary bus is not in use for any other devices. platform/chrome: wilco_ec: Add Dell's USB PowerShare Policy control
USB PowerShare is a policy which affects charging via the special USB PowerShare port (marked with a small lightning bolt or battery icon) when in low power states: - In S0, the port will always provide power. - In S0ix, if usb_charge is enabled, then power will be supplied to the port when on AC or if battery is > 50%. Else no power is supplied. - In S5, if usb_charge is enabled, then power will be supplied to the port when on AC. Else no power is supplied. thunderbolt: Add 'generation' attribute for devices
The Thunderbolt standard went through several major iterations, here called generation. USB4, which will be based on Thunderbolt, will be generation 4. Let userspace know the generation of the controller in the devices in order to distinguish between Thunderbolt and USB4, so it can be shown in various user interfaces. Merge branch 'next-integrity' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/zohar/linux-integrity
Pull integrity updates from Mimi Zohar: "The major feature in this time is IMA support for measuring and appraising appended file signatures. In addition are a couple of bug fixes and code cleanup to use struct_size(). In addition to the PE/COFF and IMA xattr signatures, the kexec kernel image may be signed with an appended signature, using the same scripts/sign-file tool that is used to sign kernel modules. Similarly, the initramfs may contain an appended signature. This contained a lot of refactoring of the existing appended signature verification code, so that IMA could retain the existing framework of calculating the file hash once, storing it in the IMA measurement list and extending the TPM, verifying the file's integrity based on a file hash or signature (eg. xattrs), and adding an audit record containing the file hash, all based on policy. (The IMA support for appended signatures patch set was posted and reviewed 11 times.) The support for appended signature paves the way for adding other signature verification methods, such as fs-verity, based on a single system-wide policy. The file hash used for verifying the signature and the signature, itself, can be included in the IMA measurement list" * 'next-integrity' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/zohar/linux-integrity: ima: ima_api: Use struct_size() in kzalloc() ima: use struct_size() in kzalloc() sefltest/ima: support appended signatures (modsig) ima: Fix use after free in ima_read_modsig() MODSIGN: make new include file self contained ima: fix freeing ongoing ahash_request ima: always return negative code for error ima: Store the measurement again when appraising a modsig ima: Define ima-modsig template ima: Collect modsig ima: Implement support for module-style appended signatures ima: Factor xattr_verify() out of ima_appraise_measurement() ima: Add modsig appraise_type option for module-style appended signatures integrity: Select CONFIG_KEYS instead of depending on it PKCS#7: Introduce pkcs7_get_digest() PKCS#7: Refactor verify_pkcs7_signature() MODSIGN: Export module signature definitions ima: initialize the "template" field with the default template |

mm, slab: extend slab/shrink to shrink all memcg caches
Currently, a value of '1" is written to /sys/kernel/slab/<slab>/shrink file to shrink the slab by flushing out all the per-cpu slabs and free slabs in partial lists. This can be useful to squeeze out a bit more memory under extreme condition as well as making the active object counts in /proc/slabinfo more accurate. This usually applies only to the root caches, as the SLUB_MEMCG_SYSFS_ON option is usually not enabled and "slub_memcg_sysfs=1" not set. Even if memcg sysfs is turned on, it is too cumbersome and impractical to manage all those per-memcg sysfs files in a real production system. So there is no practical way to shrink memcg caches. Fix this by enabling a proper write to the shrink sysfs file of the root cache to scan all the available memcg caches and shrink them as well. For a non-root memcg cache (when SLUB_MEMCG_SYSFS_ON or slub_memcg_sysfs is on), only that cache will be shrunk when written. On a 2-socket 64-core 256-thread arm64 system with 64k page after a parallel kernel build, the the amount of memory occupied by slabs before shrinking slabs were: # grep task_struct /proc/slabinfo task_struct 53137 53192 4288 61 4 : tunables 0 0 0 : slabdata 872 872 0 # grep "^S[lRU]" /proc/meminfo Slab: 3936832 kB SReclaimable: 399104 kB SUnreclaim: 3537728 kB After shrinking slabs (by echoing "1" to all shrink files): # grep "^S[lRU]" /proc/meminfo Slab: 1356288 kB SReclaimable: 263296 kB SUnreclaim: 1092992 kB # grep task_struct /proc/slabinfo task_struct 2764 6832 4288 61 4 : tunables 0 0 0 : slabdata 112 112 0 Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20190723151445.7385-1-longman@redhat.com Signed-off-by: Waiman Long <longman@redhat.com> Acked-by: Roman Gushchin <guro@fb.com> Acked-by: Christoph Lameter <cl@linux.com> Cc: Pekka Enberg <penberg@kernel.org> Cc: David Rientjes <rientjes@google.com> Cc: Joonsoo Kim <iamjoonsoo.kim@lge.com> Cc: Michal Hocko <mhocko@kernel.org> Cc: Johannes Weiner <hannes@cmpxchg.org> Cc: Shakeel Butt <shakeelb@google.com> Cc: Vladimir Davydov <vdavydov.dev@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

Char/Misc driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big char/misc driver pull request for 5.4-rc1. As has been happening in previous releases, more and more individual driver subsystem trees are ending up in here. Now if that is good or bad I can't tell, but hopefully it makes your life easier as it's more of an aggregation of trees together to one merge point for you. Anyway, lots of stuff in here: - habanalabs driver updates - thunderbolt driver updates - misc driver updates - coresight and intel_th hwtracing driver updates - fpga driver updates - extcon driver updates - some dma driver updates - char driver updates - android binder driver updates - nvmem driver updates - phy driver updates - parport driver fixes - pcmcia driver fix - uio driver updates - w1 driver updates - configfs fixes - other assorted driver updates All of these have been in linux-next for a long time with no reported issues. Staging/IIO driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big staging/iio driver update for 5.4-rc1. Lots of churn here, with a few driver/filesystems moving out of staging finally: - erofs moved out of staging - greybus core code moved out of staging Along with that, a new filesytem has been added: - extfat to provide support for those devices requiring that filesystem (i.e. transfer devices to/from windows systems or printers.) btf: expose BTF info through sysfs
Make .BTF section allocated and expose its contents through sysfs. /sys/kernel/btf directory is created to contain all the BTFs present inside kernel. Currently there is only kernel's main BTF, represented as /sys/kernel/btf/kernel file. Once kernel modules' BTFs are supported, each module will expose its BTF as /sys/kernel/btf/<module-name> file. Current approach relies on a few pieces coming together: 1. pahole is used to take almost final vmlinux image (modulo .BTF and kallsyms) and generate .BTF section by converting DWARF info into BTF. This section is not allocated and not mapped to any segment, though, so is not yet accessible from inside kernel at runtime. 2. objcopy dumps .BTF contents into binary file and subsequently convert binary file into linkable object file with automatically generated symbols _binary__btf_kernel_bin_start and _binary__btf_kernel_bin_end, pointing to start and end, respectively, of BTF raw data. 3. final vmlinux image is generated by linking this object file (and kallsyms, if necessary). sysfs_btf.c then creates /sys/kernel/btf/kernel file and exposes embedded BTF contents through it. This allows, e.g., libbpf and bpftool access BTF info at well-known location, without resorting to searching for vmlinux image on disk (location of which is not standardized and vmlinux image might not be even available in some scenarios, e.g., inside qemu during testing). Alternative approach using .incbin assembler directive to embed BTF contents directly was attempted but didn't work, because sysfs_proc.o is not re-compiled during link-vmlinux.sh stage. This is required, though, to update embedded BTF data (initially empty data is embedded, then pahole generates BTF info and we need to regenerate sysfs_btf.o with updated contents, but it's too late at that point). If BTF couldn't be generated due to missing or too old pahole, sysfs_btf.c handles that gracefully by detecting that _binary__btf_kernel_bin_start (weak symbol) is 0 and not creating /sys/kernel/btf at all. v2->v3: - added Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-kernel-btf (Greg K-H); - created proper kobject (btf_kobj) for btf directory (Greg K-H); - undo v2 change of reusing vmlinux, as it causes extra kallsyms pass due to initially missing __binary__btf_kernel_bin_{start/end} symbols; v1->v2: - allow kallsyms stage to re-use vmlinux generated by gen_btf(); Reviewed-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Signed-off-by: Andrii Nakryiko <andriin@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> |

efi: Export Runtime Configuration Interface table to sysfs
System firmware advertises the address of the 'Runtime Configuration Interface table version 2 (RCI2)' via an EFI Configuration Table entry. This code retrieves the RCI2 table from the address and exports it to sysfs as a binary attribute 'rci2' under /sys/firmware/efi/tables directory. The approach adopted is similar to the attribute 'DMI' under /sys/firmware/dmi/tables. RCI2 table contains BIOS HII in XML format and is used to populate BIOS setup page in Dell EMC OpenManage Server Administrator tool. The BIOS setup page contains BIOS tokens which can be configured. intel_th: msu: Introduce buffer interface
Introduces a concept of external buffers, which is a mechanism for creating trace sinks that would receive trace data from MSC buffers and transfer it elsewhere. A external buffer can implement its own window allocation/deallocation if it has to. It must provide a callback that's used to notify it when a window fills up, so that it can then start a DMA transaction from that window 'elsewhere'. This window remains in a 'locked' state and won't be used for storing new trace data until the buffer 'unlocks' it with a provided API call, at which point the window can be used again for storing trace data. This relies on a functional "last block" interrupt, so not all versions of Trace Hub can use this feature, which does not reflect on existing users. platform/x86: asus: Rename "fan mode" to "fan boost mode"
The Asus WMI spec indicates that the function being controlled here is called "Fan Boost Mode". The user-facing documentation also calls it this. The spec uses the term "fan mode" is used to refer to other things, including functionality expected to appear on future products. We missed this before as we are not dealing with the most readable of specs, and didn't forsee any confusion around shortening the name. Rename "fan mode" to "fan boost mode" to improve consistency with the spec and to avoid a future naming conflict. There is no interface breakage here since this has yet to be included in an official kernel release. I also updated the kernel version listed under ABI accordingly. platform-drivers-x86 for v5.3-1
ASUS WMI driver got a big refactoring in order to support the TUF Gaming laptops. Besides that, the regression with backlight being permanently off on various EeePC laptops has been fixed. Accelerometer on HP ProBook 450 G0 shows wrong measurements due to X axis being inverted. This has been fixed. Intel PMC core driver has been extended to be ACPI enumerated if the DSDT provides device with _HID "INT33A1". This allows to convert the driver to be pure platform and support new hardware purely based on ACPI DSDT. From now on the Intel Speed Select Technology is supported thru a corresponding driver. This driver provides an access to the features of the ISST, such as Performance Profile, Core Power, Base frequency and Turbo Frequency. Mellanox platform drivers has been refactored and now extended to support more systems, including new coming ones. The OLPC XO-1.75 platform is now supported. CB4063 Beckhoff Automation board is using PMC clocks, provided via pmc_atom driver, for ethernet controllers in a way that they can't be managed by the clock driver. The quirk has been extended to cover this case. Touchscreen on Chuwi Hi10 Plus tablet has been enabled. Meanwhile the information of Chuwi Hi10 Air has been fixed to cover more models based on the same platform. Xiaomi notebooks have WMI interface enabled. Thus, the driver to support it has been provided. It required some extension of the generic WMI library, which allows to propagate opaque context to the ->probe() of the individual drivers. This release includes debugfs clean up from Greg KH for several drivers that drop return code check and make debugfs absence or failure non-fatal. Miscellaneous fixes here and there, mostly for Acer WMI and various Intel drivers. The listed below commits are duplicated due to previously pushed fixes in v5.2 cycle: - |

f2fs-for-5.3-rc1
In this round, we've introduced native swap file support which can exploit DIO, enhanced existing checkpoint=disable feature with additional mount option to tune the triggering condition, and allowed user to preallocate physical blocks in a pinned file which will be useful to avoid f2fs fragmentation in append-only workloads. In addition, we've fixed subtle quota corruption issue. Enhancement: - add swap file support which uses DIO - allocate blocks for pinned file - allow SSR and mount option to enhance checkpoint=disable - enhance IPU IOs - add more sanity checks such as memory boundary access Bug fix: - quota corruption in very corner case of error-injected SPO case - fix root_reserved on remount and some wrong counts - add missing fsck flag Some patches were also introduced to clean up ambiguous i_flags and debugging messages codes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE00UqedjCtOrGVvQiQBSofoJIUNIFAl0mlKIACgkQQBSofoJI UNI2Ow//e4QxinKVdgA6F2wx0CkdSreqfzQbA1t+6pcWgzCgLfj4dpOuSp8Yu1NT aG6YFfUxjtUNN8D85WqJ+6qKt0gFBoxjQXDvvbxLFB9Xoa2XqzFrHW8xenSRHppj V63Yye5Z+Qgss65hTktgHMWSi4mUWRq76t1lFBprXm41uC036rIQCSYioztcLQCN fFi2xfkFHf7vIIg6ZrCy22wNSCWL9X6dzKftIZ6LSz+jkPGEard1D/OUYLMMQ4YG b5DS0LEWbudn1vwALPPXwTHgZuG12W581MsHUsu2FIyenGGTk7EIZfNBN6cGfIMk NsEMnanFvXp7ZYP6HQnZlSkoBRIkD2JpYh7bFxTklw4H09GJxYFksed8uqNoDRog GPcNZjKSm0wCUHe2awOhF9kRXMFnwIR7m4DNOQHH1MYmpp3ponGsbfYy3J/qLS5y Smh8pcbsttDMQ0NaWZznby2bSEv9k9R9CoqE5sKCNDnh6Ky8WjK8x6xt3wrPG6h8 jI7venvHvJbFpxAmnKDzflZrlGj95pg0j0DAk07ql/9i8YPfRrlBKv8jOo+7aRWC jIO70URGDO6R/o5XdRqx6u8DOE1JPVP+6XzsT6MdDtBlxE+TbcTPRt3RzEgmo1d3 CI0jq0IRDTDZJITmQoQKCS85OZDyaAe2iHUPwSjCEuDex5lynuY= =S2ZS -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'f2fs-for-5.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jaegeuk/f2fs Pull f2fs updates from Jaegeuk Kim: "In this round, we've introduced native swap file support which can exploit DIO, enhanced existing checkpoint=disable feature with additional mount option to tune the triggering condition, and allowed user to preallocate physical blocks in a pinned file which will be useful to avoid f2fs fragmentation in append-only workloads. Driver Core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1
Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1 It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you. Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have: - bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree) - scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI entries in a simple way - cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse easier due to typos and other minor things - default_attrs use for some ktype users - driver model documentation file conversions to .rst - compressed firmware file loading - deferred probe fixes All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :) Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iG0EABECAC0WIQT0tgzFv3jCIUoxPcsxR9QN2y37KQUCXSgpnQ8cZ3JlZ0Brcm9h aC5jb20ACgkQMUfUDdst+ykcwgCfS30OR4JmwZydWGJ7zK/cHqk+KjsAnjOxjC1K LpRyb3zX29oChFaZkc5a =XrEZ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'driver-core-5.3-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core Pull driver core and debugfs updates from Greg KH: "Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1 It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. mm: smaps: split PSS into components
Report separate components (anon, file, and shmem) for PSS in smaps_rollup. This helps understand and tune the memory manager behavior in consumer devices, particularly mobile devices. Many of them (e.g. chromebooks and Android-based devices) use zram for anon memory, and perform disk reads for discarded file pages. The difference in latency is large (e.g. reading a single page from SSD is 30 times slower than decompressing a zram page on one popular device), thus it is useful to know how much of the PSS is anon vs. file. All the information is already present in /proc/pid/smaps, but much more expensive to obtain because of the large size of that procfs entry. This patch also removes a small code duplication in smaps_account, which would have gotten worse otherwise. Also updated Documentation/filesystems/proc.txt (the smaps section was a bit stale, and I added a smaps_rollup section) and Documentation/ABI/testing/procfs-smaps_rollup. Char / Misc driver patches for 5.3-rc1
Here is the "large" pull request for char and misc and other assorted smaller driver subsystems for 5.3-rc1. It seems that this tree is becoming the funnel point of lots of smaller driver subsystems, which is fine for me, but that's why it is getting larger over time and does not just contain stuff under drivers/char/ and drivers/misc. Lots of small updates all over the place here from different driver subsystems: - habana driver updates - coresight driver updates - documentation file movements and updates - Android binder fixes and updates - extcon driver updates - google firmware driver updates - fsi driver updates - smaller misc and char driver updates - soundwire driver updates - nvmem driver updates - w1 driver fixes All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues. It's been a relatively busy cycle for docs:
- A fair pile of RST conversions, many from Mauro. These create more than the usual number of simple but annoying merge conflicts with other trees, unfortunately. He has a lot more of these waiting on the wings that, I think, will go to you directly later on. - A new document on how to use merges and rebases in kernel repos, and one on Spectre vulnerabilities. - Various improvements to the build system, including automatic markup of function() references because some people, for reasons I will never understand, were of the opinion that :c:func:``function()`` is unattractive and not fun to type. - We now recommend using sphinx 1.7, but still support back to 1.4. - Lots of smaller improvements, warning fixes, typo fixes, etc. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQFDBAABCAAtFiEEIw+MvkEiF49krdp9F0NaE2wMflgFAl0krAEPHGNvcmJldEBs d24ubmV0AAoJEBdDWhNsDH5Yg98H/AuLqO9LpOgUjF4LhyjxGPdzJkY9RExSJ7km gznyreLCZgFaJR+AY6YDsd4Jw6OJlPbu1YM/Qo3C3WrZVFVhgL/s2ebvBgCo50A8 raAFd8jTf4/mGCHnAqRotAPQ3mETJUk315B66lBJ6Oc+YdpRhwXWq8ZW2bJxInFF 3HDvoFgMf0KhLuMHUkkL0u3fxH1iA+KvDu8diPbJYFjOdOWENz/CV8wqdVkXRSEW DJxIq89h/7d+hIG3d1I7Nw+gibGsAdjSjKv4eRKauZs4Aoxd1Gpl62z0JNk6aT3m dtq4joLdwScydonXROD/Twn2jsu4xYTrPwVzChomElMowW/ZBBY= =D0eO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'docs-5.3' of git://git.lwn.net/linux Pull Documentation updates from Jonathan Corbet: "It's been a relatively busy cycle for docs: - A fair pile of RST conversions, many from Mauro. IOMMU Updates for Linux v5.3
Including: - Patches to make the dma-iommu code more generic so that it can be used outside of the ARM context with other IOMMU drivers. Goal is to make use of it on x86 too. - Generic IOMMU domain support for the Intel VT-d driver. This driver now makes more use of common IOMMU code to allocate default domains for the devices it handles. - An IOMMU fault reporting API to userspace. With that the IOMMU fault handling can be done in user-space, for example to forward the faults to a VM. - Better handling for reserved regions requested by the firmware. These can be 'relaxed' now, meaning that those don't prevent a device being attached to a VM. - Suspend/Resume support for the Renesas IOMMU driver. - Added support for dumping SVA related fields of the DMAR table in the Intel VT-d driver via debugfs. - A pile of smaller fixes and cleanups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEEr9jSbILcajRFYWYyK/BELZcBGuMFAl0jaOAACgkQK/BELZcB GuNYTRAAjXuNs1OX/ROJ4TByT3YBWj5BLZVMrpGx75MAEvO68a7rTdaCpGuHv09w 5JneXxA3H2O1q6JCGguLm//Dy5QycJQIn0WuaBGi5Vjo+cGe47sf48Hb6AhIoAFf exjhfmG6kL3ZzEkLU/7iJWqz+iiCBxRU0yMINJvzFFzliJkfyGWsjoruxobmUEhm XdEsdeAQFXoPMNVCDiorM+B+3VCl7BfwfhdlFrmX3fpNrMZ5ytlnPTgfJdXAGgHn DAoK8qGoyYtRnZnivn1y56M13qv5y3XvicKqx/GRKK8CyJpz/vYSBLktI5HO4tOF y/VzNg+ctDSjQgFyKIq+38k6qu4YWctyxZNObmPVpioNf9j9GaZWT97fxGzXMNS4 G7TqOeq4yxjotAOcd+DdH265uVBtGmLqk7XobigxCZ0xzGVVnmPy4oJtkWwjaMgN HtNSMPRRirjprK4BUoCiXwP8YyWZs0a93oJmh2orD406yZkHNuqLNaicu24WsKKf Ze5BsFbNUb0qYdyL7ofOugQrOvYYoWYuREiz8ClF3U4mCcOk4FJ9K2Vf1kSfKBX8 1Skz75NeSZdzXg9JcznNMuiqH2mN3lx/88xKJg3LJxEeFxU++VDMX3Z8kEmpj5w+ 9m/v+VRclUXL6g8s6QFNIlIenMknAEjtWw6hVWPhWLaULH6fR6Y= =Kvk5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'iommu-updates-v5.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/joro/iommu Pull iommu updates from Joerg Roedel: - Make the dma-iommu code more generic so that it can be used outside of the ARM context with other IOMMU drivers. The new environment, in which IMA-appraisal is being used, frequently updates the LSM policy and permits LSM label deletions. - Prevent an mmap'ed shared file opened for write from also being mmap'ed execute. In the long term, making this and other similar changes at the VFS layer would be preferable. - The IMA per policy rule template format support is needed for a couple of new/proposed features (eg. kexec boot command line measurement, appended signatures, and VFS provided file hashes). - Other than the "boot-aggregate" record in the IMA measuremeent list, all other measurements are of file data. Pull x86 CPU feature updates from Thomas Gleixner: "Updates for x86 CPU features: - Support for UMWAIT/UMONITOR, which allows to use MWAIT and MONITOR instructions in user space to save power e.g. in HPC workloads which spin wait on synchronization points. The maximum time a MWAIT can halt in userspace is controlled by the kernel and can be adjusted by the sysadmin. - Speed up the MTRR handling code on CPUs which support cache self-snooping correctly. On those CPUs the wbinvd() invocations can be omitted which speeds up the MTRR setup by a factor of 50. - Support for the new x86 vendor Zhaoxin who develops processors based on the VIA Centaur technology. - Prevent 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' from affecting isolated NOHZ_FULL CPUs by sending IPIs to retrieve the CPU frequency and use the cached values instead. - The addition and late revert of the FSGSBASE support.
