949f08862d drm: Make the connector .detect() callback optional
Many drivers (21 to be exact) create connectors that are always
connected (for instance to an LVDS or DSI panel). Instead of forcing
them to implement a dummy .detect() handler, make the callback optional
and consider the connector as always connected in that case.

73fe26a486 drm/fsl-dcu: introduce kernel parameter to specify fbdev depth
Add a kernel parameter legancyfb_depth (like the i.MX drm driver)
to control the legancy fbdev depth. Default to the so far hard
coded depth of 24-bit. Currently changing the framebuffer depth
is not possible from user space when using the fbdev emulation
layer... This provides a rudimentary mechanism to change depth
without having to change kernel code.

c162215f57 drm/fsl-dcu: remove separate compilation unit for fbdev emulation
The separate file fsl_dcu_drm_fbdev.c only initialized fbdev
emulation which is a one-line operation. There is not much more
code on sight which justifies a separate file, hence call the
initialization helper directly from the drv file.

3d6f37102b drm/fsl-dcu: disable planes before disabling CRTC
After disabling and reenabling the CRTC the DCU sometimes got stuck
displaying the whole screen with a solid color. Disabling and
reenabling the CRTC did not recover from the situation. This was
often reproducable by just restarting the X-Server.

The disabling sequence is not explicitly documented. But it turns
out that disabling the planes before disabling the CRTC seems to
prevent the above situation from happening.

Use the callback ->atomic_disable instead of ->disable which allows
to use the drm_atomic_helper_disable_planes_on_crtc() helper to
disable planes before disabling the controller.

ce492b3b8f drm/fsl-dcu: use flat regmap cache
Using flat regmap cache instead of RB-tree to avoid the following

WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 1 at kernel/locking/lockdep.c:2755 lockdep_trace_alloc+0x15c/0x160()
DEBUG_LOCKS_WARN_ON(irqs_disabled_flags(flags))

The RB-tree regmap cache needs to allocate new space on first
writes. However, allocations in an atomic context (e.g. when a
spinlock is held) are not allowed. The function regmap_write
calls map->lock, which acquires a spinlock in the fast_io case.
Since the FSL DCU driver uses MMIO, the regmap bus of type
regmap_mmio is being used which has fast_io set to true.

Use flat regmap cache and specify max register to be large
enouth to cover all registers available in LS1021a and Vybrids

drm: Rework vblank-wait handling to allow interrupt reduction.

to stay backwards-compatible with old UMS code that didn't even tell
the kernel when it did a modeset, so that the kernel could
save/restore vblank counters. At worst this means vblanks will be
somewhat funky on a setup that very likely no one still runs.

So let's just nuke it.

Plan B would be to set it unconditionally in drm_vblank_init for kms
drivers, instead of in each driver separately. So if this patch breaks

2c80661d2e drm/fsl-dcu: use bus_flags for pixel clock polarity
The drivers current default configuration drives the pixel data
on rising edge of the pixel clock. However, most display sample
data on rising edge... This leads to color shift artefacts visible
especially at edges.

This patch changes the relevant defines to be useful and actually
set the bits, and changes pixel clock polarity to drive the pixel
data on falling edge by default. The patch also adds an explicit
pixel clock polarity flag to the display introduced with the driver
(NEC WQVGA "nec,nl4827hc19-05b") using the new bus_flags field to
retain the initial behavior.

Ofc I promise just a few leftovers for drm-misc and somehow it's the
biggest pull. But really mostly trivial stuff:
- MAINTAINERS updates from Emil
- rename async to nonblock in atomic_commit to avoid the confusion between
nonblocking ioctl and async flip (= not vblank synced), from Maarten.
Needs to be regened with newer drivers, but probably only after -rc1 to
  catch them all.
- actually lockless gem_object_free, plus acked driver conversion patches.
All the trickier prep stuff already is in drm-next.
- Noralf's nice work for generic defio support in our fbdev emulation.
Keeps the udl hack, and qxl is tested by Gerd.

76396df228 drm/fsl-dcu: add COMMON_CLK dependency
The fsl dcu now uses the clk-provider interfaces, which are not available

a5dab99139 drm/layerscape: reduce excessive stack usage
The fsl-dcu driver copies a drm_mode_config object to its
stack but then only accesses a single member (dpms_property)
once. The data structure is large enough to trigger a warning
about the amount of kernel stack being used:

drivers/gpu/drm/fsl-dcu/fsl_dcu_drm_rgb.c: In function 'fsl_dcu_drm_connector_create':
drivers/gpu/drm/fsl-dcu/fsl_dcu_drm_rgb.c:182:1: error: the frame size of 1040 bytes is larger than 1024 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]

This changes the fsl_dcu_drm_connector_create() function to
only access the drm_mode_config by reference, which is also
more efficient.

fb127b7943 drm/fsl-dcu: add TCON driver
Add driver for the TCON (timing controller) module. The TCON module
is a separate module attached after the DCU (display controller
unit). Each DCU instance has its own, directly connected TCON
instance. The DCU's RGB and timing signals are passing through
the TCON module. TCON can provide timing signals for raw TFT panels
or operate in a bypass mode which leaves all signals unaltered.

The driver currently only supports the bypass mode.

is one layer too many.

4bc390c633 drm/fsl-dcu: use mode flags for hsync/vsync polarity
The current default configuration is as follows:
- Invert VSYNC signal (active LOW)
- Invert HSYNC signal (active LOW)

The mode flags allow to specify the required polarity per
mode. Furthermore, none of the current driver settings is
actually a standard polarity.

This patch applies the current driver default polarities as
explicit flags to the display which has been introduced with
the driver (NEC WQVGA "nec,nl4827hc19-05b"). The driver now
also parses the flags field and applies the configuration
accordingly, by using the following values as standard
polarities: (e.g. when no flags are specified):
- VSYNC signal not inverted (active HIGH)
- HSYNC signal not inverted (active HIGH)

e291d2985b drm/fsl-dcu: remove regmap return value checks
It is not common to do regmap return value checks, especially not
for memory mapped device. We can rule out most error returns since
the conditions are static and we know they are ok (e.g. offset
aligned to register stride). Also without proper error handling
they are not really valuable for the user. Hence remove most of
them.

The check in the interrupt handler is worth keeping since a
volatile register won't be readable in case register caching is
still enabled.

e112e593b2 drm: use dev_name as default unique name in drm_dev_alloc()
The following code pattern exists in some DRM drivers:

As suggested in

b44f84081b drm: Stop using drm_vblank_count() as the hw frame counter
drm_vblank_count() returns the software counter. We should not pretend
it's the hw counter since we use the hw counter to figuere out what the
software counter value should be. So instead provide a new function
drm_vblank_no_hw_counter() for drivers that don't have a real hw
counter. The new function simply returns 0, which is about the only
thing it can do.

88e72717c2 drm/irq: Use unsigned int pipe in public API
This continues the pattern started in commit cc1ef118fc ("drm/irq:
Make pipe unsigned and name consistent"). This is applied to the public
APIs and driver callbacks, so pretty much all drivers need to be updated
to match the new prototypes.

109eee2f2a drm/layerscape: Add Freescale DCU DRM driver
This patch add support for Two Dimensional Animation and Compositing
Engine (2D-ACE) on the Freescale SoCs.

2D-ACE is a Freescale display controller. 2D-ACE describes
the functionality of the module extremely well its name is a value
that cannot be used as a token in programming languages.
Instead the valid token "DCU" is used to tag the register names and
function names.

The Display Controller Unit (DCU) module is a system master that
fetches graphics stored in internal or external memory and displays
them on a TFT LCD panel. A wide range of panel sizes is supported
and the timing of the interface signals is highly configurable.
Graphics are read directly from memory and then blended in real-time,
which allows for dynamic content creation with minimal CPU
intervention.

The features:
(1) Full RGB888 output to TFT LCD panel.
(2) Blending of each pixel using up to 4 source layers
dependent
on size of panel.
(3) Each graphic layer can be placed with one pixel resolution
in either axis.
(4) Each graphic layer support RGB565 and RGB888 direct colors
without alpha channel and BGRA8888 BGRA4444 ARGB1555 direct
colors
with an alpha channel and YUV422 format.
(5) Each graphic layer support alpha blending with 8-bit
resolution.
This is a simplified version, only one primary plane, one
framebuffer, one crtc, one connector and one encoder for TFT
LCD panel.
