67b392f7b8 w1_therm: optimizing temperature read timings
Optimizing temperature reading by reducing waiting conversion time
according to device resolution settings, as per device specification.
This is device dependent as not all the devices supports resolution
setting, so it has been added in device family structures.

The process to read the temperature on the device has been adapted in a
new function 'convert_t()', which replace the former 'read_therm()', is
introduce to deal with this timing. Strong pull up is also applied during
the required time, according to device power status needs and
'strong_pullup' module parameter.

'temperature_from_RAM()' function is introduced to get the correct
temperature computation (device dependent) from device RAM data.

An new sysfs entry has been added to ouptut only temperature. The old
entry w1_slave has been kept for compatibility, without changing its
output format.

Updating Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-driver-w1_therm accordingly.

45d457a4cf w1_therm: adding eeprom sysfs entry
The driver implement 2 hardware functions to access device RAM:
 * copy_scratchpad
 * recall_scratchpad
They act according to device specifications.

As EEPROM operations are not device dependent (all w1_therm can perform
EEPROM read/write operation following the same protocol), it is removed
from device families structures.

Updating Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-driver-w1_therm accordingly.

308bdb94de w1_therm: adding resolution sysfs entry
Adding resolution sysfs entry (RW) to get or set the device resolution
Write values are managed as follow:
	* '9..12': resolution to set in bit
	* Anything else: do nothing
Read values are :
	* '9..12': device resolution in bit
	* '-xx': xx is kernel error when reading the resolution

Only supported devices will show the sysfs entry. A new family has been
created for DS18S20 devices as they do not implement resolution feature.

The resolution of each device is check when the device is
discover by the bus master, in 'w1_therm_add_slave(struct w1_slave *)'.
The status is stored in the device structure w1_therm_family_data so
that the driver always knows the resolution of each device, which could
be used later to determine the required conversion duration (resolution
dependent).

The resolution is re evaluate each time a user read or write the sysfs
entry.

To avoid looping through the w1_therm_families at run time, the pointer
'specific_functions' is set up to the correct 'w1_therm_family_converter'
when the slave is added (which mean when it is discovered by the master).
This initialization is done by a helper function
'device_family(struct w1_slave *sl)', and a dedicated macro
'SLAVE_SPECIFIC_FUNC(sl)' allow the access to the specific function of the
slave device.

'read_scratchpad' and 'write_scratchpad' are the hardware functions to
access the device RAM, as per protocol specification.

It cancel the former 'precision' functions, which was only set and never
read (so not stored in the device struct).

Updating Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-driver-w1_therm accordingly.

b7bb6ca17a w1_therm: adding ext_power sysfs entry
Adding ext_power sysfs entry (RO). Return the power status of the device:
 - 0: device parasite powered
 - 1: device externally powered
 - xx: xx is kernel error

The power status of each device is check when the device is
discover by the bus master, in 'w1_therm_add_slave(struct w1_slave *)'.
The status is stored in the device structure w1_therm_family_data so
that the driver always knows the power state of each device, which could
be used later to determine the required strong pull up to apply on the
line.

The power status is re evaluate each time the sysfs ext_power read by
a user.

The hardware function 'read_powermode(struct w1_slave *sl)' act just as
per device specifications, sending W1_READ_PSUPPLY command on the bus,
and issue a read time slot, reading only one bit.

A helper function 'bool bus_mutex_lock(struct mutex *lock)' is introduced.
It try to aquire the bus mutex several times (W1_THERM_MAX_TRY), waiting
W1_THERM_RETRY_DELAY between two attempt.

Updating Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-driver-w1_therm accordingly.

724142f8c4 fpga: dfl: fme: add performance reporting support
This patch adds support for performance reporting private feature
for FPGA Management Engine (FME). Now it supports several different
performance counters, including 'basic', 'cache', 'fabric', 'vtd'
and 'vtd_sip'. It allows user to use standard linux tools to access
these performance counters.

a2cc220a9a firmware: xilinx: Add sysfs and API to set boot health status
Add sysfs interface to set boot health status from user space.
Add API used by this interface to communicate with firmware.

If PMUFW is compiled with CHECK_HEALTHY_BOOT, it will check the
healthy bit on FPD WDT expiration. If healthy bit is set by a user
application running in Linux, PMUFW will do APU only restart. If
healthy bit is not set during FPD WDT expiration, PMUFW will do
system restart.

b3ae24c448 firmware: xilinx: Add sysfs to set shutdown scope
The Linux shutdown functionality implemented via PSCI system_off does
not include an option to set a scope, i.e. which parts of the system to
shut down.

This patch creates sysfs that allows to set the shutdown scope for the
next shutdown request. When the next shutdown is performed, the platform
specific portion of PSCI-system_off can use the chosen shutdown scope.

32377bd2cb powerpc/powernv: Add documentation for the opal sensor_groups sysfs interfaces
Commit bf9571550f ("powerpc/powernv: Add support to clear sensor
groups data") added a mechanism to clear sensor-group data via a sysfs
interface. However, the ABI for that interface has not been
documented.

This patch documents the ABI for the sysfs interface for sensor-groups
and clearing the sensor-groups.

 We again end up deleting more code than we added here, thanks to finally
 getting rid of the old and obsolete wireless USB stuff, and the exfat
 code (which is coming in again through the vfs tree in a much cleaner
 version).  But some code does come back, with the octeon drivers being
 found to actually be used in the wild, so those deletions are now
 reverted.
 
 Other than those major things, just loads and loads of tiny checkpatch
 cleanups all over the place, along with new IIO drivers and fixes.
 
 All have been in linux-next with no reported issues.

8622dfefb6 intel_th: msu: Make stopping the trace optional
Some use cases prefer to keep collecting the trace data into the last
available window while the other windows are being offloaded instead of
stopping the trace. In this scenario, the window switch happens
automatically when the next window becomes available again.

Add an option to allow this and a sysfs attribute to enable it.

a3cb39d258 serial: core: Allow detach and attach serial device for console
In the future we would like to disable power management on the serial devices
used as kernel consoles to avoid weird behaviour in some cases. However,
disabling PM may prevent system to go to deep sleep states, which in its turn
leads to the higher power consumption.

Tony Lindgren proposed a work around, i.e. allow user to detach such consoles
to make PM working again. In case user wants to see what's going on, it also
provides a mechanism to attach console back.

015d239ac0 uacce: add uacce driver
Uacce (Unified/User-space-access-intended Accelerator Framework) targets to
provide Shared Virtual Addressing (SVA) between accelerators and processes.
So accelerator can access any data structure of the main cpu.
This differs from the data sharing between cpu and io device, which share
only data content rather than address.
Since unified address, hardware and user space of process can share the
same virtual address in the communication.

Uacce create a chrdev for every registration, the queue is allocated to
the process when the chrdev is opened. Then the process can access the
hardware resource by interact with the queue file. By mmap the queue
file space to user space, the process can directly put requests to the
hardware without syscall to the kernel space.

The IOMMU core only tracks mm<->device bonds at the moment, because it
only needs to handle IOTLB invalidation and PASID table entries. However
uacce needs a finer granularity since multiple queues from the same
device can be bound to an mm. When the mm exits, all bound queues must
be stopped so that the IOMMU can safely clear the PASID table entry and
reallocate the PASID.

An intermediate struct uacce_mm links uacce devices and queues.
Note that an mm may be bound to multiple devices but an uacce_mm
structure only ever belongs to a single device, because we don't need
anything more complex (if multiple devices are bound to one mm, then
we'll create one uacce_mm for each bond).

The /sys/firmware/opal/core and /sys/kernel/fadump_release_opalcore
sysfs files are used to export and release the OPAL memory on PowerNV
platform. let's organize them into a new kobject under
/sys/firmware/opal/mpipl/ directory.

A symlink is added to maintain the backward compatibility for
/sys/firmware/opal/core sysfs file.

d418b19f34 powerpc/fadump: Reorganize /sys/kernel/fadump_* sysfs files
As the number of FADump sysfs files increases it is hard to manage all
of them inside /sys/kernel directory. It's better to have all the
FADump related sysfs files in a dedicated directory
/sys/kernel/fadump. But in order to maintain backward compatibility a
symlink has been added for every sysfs that has moved to new location.

As the FADump sysfs files are now part of a dedicated directory there
is no need to prefix their name with fadump_, hence sysfs file names
are also updated. For example fadump_enabled sysfs file is now
referred as enabled.

Also consolidate ABI documentation for all the FADump sysfs files in a
single file Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-kernel-fadump.

ae4ba35d36 usb: typec: Allow power role swapping even without USB PD
Even though originally the USB Type-C Specification did not
describe the steps for power role swapping without USB PD
contract in place, it did not actually mean power role swap
without USB PD was not allowed. The USB Type-C Specification
did not clearly separate the data and power roles until in
the release 1.2 which is why there also were no clear steps
for the scenario where only the power role was swapped
without USB PD contract before that.

Since in the latest version of the specification the power
role swap without USB PD is now clearly mentioned as allowed
operation, removing the check that prevented power role swap
without USB PD support.

e9c38f9fc2 Documentation,selinux: deprecate setting checkreqprot to 1
Deprecate setting the SELinux checkreqprot tunable to 1 via kernel
parameter or /sys/fs/selinux/checkreqprot.  Setting it to 0 is left
intact for compatibility since Android and some Linux distributions
do so for security and treat an inability to set it as a fatal error.
Eventually setting it to 0 will become a no-op and the kernel will
stop using checkreqprot's value internally altogether.

checkreqprot was originally introduced as a compatibility mechanism
for legacy userspace and the READ_IMPLIES_EXEC personality flag.
However, if set to 1, it weakens security by allowing mappings to be
made executable without authorization by policy.  The default value
for the SECURITY_SELINUX_CHECKREQPROT_VALUE config option was changed
from 1 to 0 in commit 2a35d196c1 ("selinux: change
CONFIG_SECURITY_SELINUX_CHECKREQPROT_VALUE default") and both Android
and Linux distributions began explicitly setting
/sys/fs/selinux/checkreqprot to 0 some time ago.

cb9369bdbb xen/blkback: Squeeze page pools if a memory pressure is detected
Each `blkif` has a free pages pool for the grant mapping.  The size of
the pool starts from zero and is increased on demand while processing
the I/O requests.  If current I/O requests handling is finished or 100
milliseconds has passed since last I/O requests handling, it checks and
shrinks the pool to not exceed the size limit, `max_buffer_pages`.

Therefore, host administrators can cause memory pressure in blkback by
attaching a large number of block devices and inducing I/O.  Such
problematic situations can be avoided by limiting the maximum number of
devices that can be attached, but finding the optimal limit is not so
easy.  Improper set of the limit can results in memory pressure or a
resource underutilization.  This commit avoids such problematic
situations by squeezing the pools (returns every free page in the pool
to the system) for a while (users can set this duration via a module
parameter) if memory pressure is detected.

Discussions
===========

The `blkback`'s original shrinking mechanism returns only pages in the
pool which are not currently be used by `blkback` to the system.  In
other words, the pages that are not mapped with granted pages.  Because
this commit is changing only the shrink limit but still uses the same
freeing mechanism it does not touch pages which are currently mapping
grants.

Once memory pressure is detected, this commit keeps the squeezing limit
for a user-specified time duration.  The duration should be neither too
long nor too short.  If it is too long, the squeezing incurring overhead
can reduce the I/O performance.  If it is too short, `blkback` will not
free enough pages to reduce the memory pressure.  This commit sets the
value as `10 milliseconds` by default because it is a short time in
terms of I/O while it is a long time in terms of memory operations.
Also, as the original shrinking mechanism works for at least every 100
milliseconds, this could be a somewhat reasonable choice.  I also tested
other durations (refer to the below section for more details) and
confirmed that 10 milliseconds is the one that works best with the test.
That said, the proper duration depends on actual configurations and
workloads.  That's why this commit allows users to set the duration as a
module parameter.

Memory Pressure Test
====================

To show how this commit fixes the memory pressure situation well, I
configured a test environment on a xen-running virtualization system.
On the `blkfront` running guest instances, I attach a large number of
network-backed volume devices and induce I/O to those.  Meanwhile, I
measure the number of pages that swapped in (pswpin) and out (pswpout)
on the `blkback` running guest.  The test ran twice, once for the
`blkback` before this commit and once for that after this commit.  As
shown below, this commit has dramatically reduced the memory pressure:

Optimal Aggressive Shrinking Duration
-------------------------------------

To find a best squeezing duration, I repeated the test with three
different durations (1ms, 10ms, and 100ms).  The results are as below:

As expected, the memory pressure decreases as the duration increases,
but the reduction become slow from the `10ms`.  Based on this results, I
chose the default duration as 10ms.

Performance Overhead Test
=========================

This commit could incur I/O performance degradation under severe memory
pressure because the squeezing will require more page allocations per
I/O.  To show the overhead, I artificially made a worst-case squeezing
situation and measured the I/O performance of a `blkfront` running
guest.

For the artificial squeezing, I set the `blkback.max_buffer_pages` using
the `/sys/module/xen_blkback/parameters/max_buffer_pages` file.  In this
test, I set the value to `1024` and `0`.  The `1024` is the default
value.  Setting the value as `0` is same to a situation doing the
squeezing always (worst-case).

If the underlying block device is slow enough, the squeezing overhead
could be hidden.  For the reason, I use a fast block device, namely the
rbd[1]:

For the I/O performance measurement, I run a simple `dd` command 5 times
directly to the device as below and collect the 'MB/s' results.

`blkback.max_buffer_pages` parameter.

In short, even worst case squeezing on ramdisk based fast block device
makes no visible performance degradation.  Please note that this is just
a very simple and minimal test.  On systems using super-fast block
devices and a special I/O workload, the results might be different.  If
you have any doubt, test on your machine with your workload to find the
optimal squeezing duration for you.
