75224c93fa ibmvnic: Fix endian errors in error reporting output
Error reports received from firmware were not being converted from
big endian values, leading to bogus error codes reported on little

28f4d16570 ibmvnic: Fix endian error when requesting device capabilities
When a vNIC client driver requests a faulty device setting, the
server returns an acceptable value for the client to request.
This 64 bit value was incorrectly being swapped as a 32 bit value,
resulting in loss of data. This patch corrects that by using
the 64 bit swap function.

f39f0d1e1e ibmvnic: Fix initial MTU settings
In the current driver, the MTU is set to the maximum value
capable for the backing device. This decision turned out to
be a mistake as it led to confusion among users. The expected
initial MTU value used for other IBM vNIC capable operating
systems is 1500, with the maximum value (9000) reserved for
when Jumbo frames are enabled. This patch sets the MTU to
the default value for a net device.

It also corrects a discrepancy between MTU values received from
firmware, which includes the ethernet header length, and net
device MTU values.

Finally, it removes redundant min/max MTU assignments after device
initialization.

e722af6391 ibmvnic: Call napi_disable instead of napi_enable in failure path

23d28a859f ibmveth: Add a proper check for the availability of the checksum features
When using the ibmveth driver in a KVM/QEMU based VM, it currently
always prints out a scary error message like this when it is started:

ibmveth 71000003 (unregistered net_device): unable to change
 checksum offload settings. 1 rc=-2 ret_attr=71000003

This happens because the driver always tries to enable the checksum
offloading without checking for the availability of this feature first.
QEMU does not support checksum offloading for the spapr-vlan device,
thus we always get the error message here.
According to the LoPAPR specification, the "ibm,illan-options" property
of the corresponding device tree node should be checked first to see
whether the H_ILLAN_ATTRIUBTES hypercall and thus the checksum offloading
feature is available. Thus let's do this in the ibmveth driver, too, so
that the error message is really only limited to cases where something
goes wrong, and does not occur if the feature is just missing.

7b5967389f ibmveth: set correct gso_size and gso_type
This patch is based on an earlier one submitted
by Jon Maxwell with the following commit message:

"We recently encountered a bug where a few customers using ibmveth on the
same LPAR hit an issue where a TCP session hung when large receive was
enabled. Closer analysis revealed that the session was stuck because the
one side was advertising a zero window repeatedly.

We narrowed this down to the fact the ibmveth driver did not set gso_size
which is translated by TCP into the MSS later up the stack. The MSS is
used to calculate the TCP window size and as that was abnormally large,
it was calculating a zero window, even although the sockets receive buffer
was completely empty."

We rely on the Virtual I/O Server partition in a pseries
environment to provide the MSS through the TCP header checksum
field. The stipulation is that users should not disable checksum
offloading if rx packet aggregation is enabled through VIOS.

Some firmware offerings provide the MSS in the RX buffer.
This is signalled by a bit in the RX queue descriptor.

d894be57ca ethernet: use net core MTU range checking in more drivers
Somehow, I missed a healthy number of ethernet drivers in the last pass.
Most of these drivers either were in need of an updated max_mtu to make
jumbo frames possible to enable again. In a few cases, also setting a
different min_mtu to match previous lower bounds. There are also a few

a52ad514fd net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usage
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by
eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as
deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been
audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means
they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu
prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of
out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it.

Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using
eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you
couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set
to 4096 to remedy that.

dfad09a6da ibmvnic: Handle backing device failover and reinitialization
An upcoming feature of IBM VNIC protocol is the ability to configure
redundant backing devices for a VNIC client. In case of a failure
on the current backing device, the driver will receive a signal
from the hypervisor indicating that a failover will occur. The driver
will then wait for a message from the backing device before
establishing a new connection.

65dc689182 ibmvnic: Fix passive VNIC server login process
In some cases, if there is no VNIC server available during the driver
probe, the driver should wait until it receives an initialization
request from the VNIC Server to start the login process. Recent testing
has show that this is incorrectly handled in the current driver.

The proposed solution handles this initialization request by scheduling
a task in the shared workqueue that completes the login process and
registers the net device.

ea22d51a78 ibmvnic: simplify and improve driver probe function
This patch creates a function that handles sub-CRQ IRQ creation
separately from sub-CRQ initialization. Another function is then needed
to release sub-CRQ resources prior to sub-CRQ IRQ creation.

These additions allow the driver probe function to be simplified,
specifically during the VNIC Server login process. A timeout is also
included while waiting for completion of the login process in case
the VNIC Server is not available or some other error occurs.

498cd8e495 ibmvnic: Enable use of multiple tx/rx scrqs
Enables the use of multiple transmit and receive scrqs allowing the ibmvnic
driver to take advantage of multiqueue functionality. To achieve this, the
driver must implement the process of negotiating the maximum number of
queues allowed by the server. Initially, the driver will attempt to login
with the maximum number of tx and rx queues supported by the server. If
the server fails to allocate the requested number of scrqs, it will return
partial success in the login response. In this case, we must reinitiate
the login process from the request capabilities stage and attempt to login
requesting fewer scrqs.

661dfc65f7 net/ibm/emac: bump version numbers for correct work with ethtool
The size of the MAC register dump used to be the size specified by the
reg property in the device tree. Userland has no good way of finding
out that size, and it was not specified consistently for each MAC type,
so ethtool would end up printing junk at the end of the register dump
if the device tree didn't match the size it assumed.

Using the new version numbers indicates unambiguously that the size of
the MAC register dump is dependent only on the MAC type.

138b15ed87 drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTO
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure

no value in anyone else taking over updating it either.

However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text

3051f39253 ehea: Fix memory hook reference counting crashes
The recent commit to only register the EHEA memory hotplug hooks on

Firstly the reference counting is wrong for multiple adapters, in that
the hooks are registered multiple times. Secondly the check in the tear

The multiple registration of the hooks is the biggest problem, as it

4fce14820c ibmveth: Fix off-by-one error in ibmveth_change_mtu()
AFAIK the PAPR document which defines the virtual device interface used by
the ibmveth driver doesn't specify a specific maximum MTU. So, in the
ibmveth driver, the maximum allowed MTU is determined by the maximum
allocated buffer size of 64k (corresponding to one page in the common case)
minus the per-buffer overhead IBMVETH_BUFF_OH (which has value 22 for 14
bytes of ethernet header, plus 8 bytes for an opaque handle).

This suggests a maximum allowable MTU of 65514 bytes, but in fact the
driver only permits a maximum MTU of 65513. This is because there is a <
instead of an <= in ibmveth_change_mtu(), which only permits an MTU which
is strictly smaller than the buffer size, rather than allowing the buffer
to be completely filled.

This patch fixes the buglet.

Conflicts:
	drivers/net/ethernet/emulex/benet/be_main.c
	net/core/sysctl_net_core.c
	net/ipv4/inet_diag.c

The be_main.c conflict resolution was really tricky. The conflict
hunks generated by GIT were very unhelpful, to say the least. It
split functions in half and moved them around, when the real actual
conflict only existed solely inside of one function, that being
be_map_pci_bars().

So instead, to resolve this, I checked out be_main.c from the top
of net-next, then I applied the be_main.c changes from 'net' since
the last time I merged. And this worked beautifully.

The inet_diag.c and sysctl_net_core.c conflicts were simple
overlapping changes, and were easily to resolve.

The driver claims that it can do TSO and IP checksums on vlan

This makes it possible to push traffic to this driver that has TSO or

identify such traffic and will not correctly perform
segmentation and checksum calculation.

Fix this by using vlan_get_protocol() helper instead of

At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual

Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the

therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries
which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate
byte codes to do such lookups.

Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can
do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel.

Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating
portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation,
one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and
    this is very expensive.

Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing
netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to
co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the
    new stuff.

Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have
    worked so hard on this.

 2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements
to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like
UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things.

In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test
    cases are added.

 3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet
    and Yang Yingliang.

 4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin
    Sujir.

 5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet,
    Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng.

 6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary
control message data, much like other socket option attributes.
    From Francesco Fusco.

 7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed
automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new
SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option. From Eric Dumazet.

 8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely
reflect actual needs, from Eric Dumazet.

 9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we
can do it for connected UDP sockets too. Implementation from Shawn
    Bohrer.

10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux
performance for listening sockets. With the main goals being able
to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the
listening lock contention. From Eric Dumazet.

11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU
conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the
RCU usage to even more locations. From Ding Tianhong and Wang
Yufen, based upon suggestions by Nikolay Aleksandrov and Veaceslav
    Falico.

12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow
segmentation offloading over tunnels. From Eric Dumazet.

13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the
various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as
well as syncookies. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. The key fundamental
operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys.

Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and
    our generic flow dissector.

14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to
NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to
explicitly set it to NULL any more. Many drivers have been cleaned
up in this way, from Jingoo Han.

15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann.

16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that
SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled. Also from Daniel
    Borkmann.

17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces
using the interface MTU value. This helps avoid PMTU attacks,
particularly on DNS servers. From Hannes Frederic Sowa.

18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal
(re-)implementation in virtio-net. From Jason Wang.

394efd19d5 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Conflicts:
	drivers/net/ethernet/emulex/benet/be.h
	drivers/net/netconsole.c
	net/bridge/br_private.h

Three mostly trivial conflicts.

The net/bridge/br_private.h conflict was a function signature (argument
addition) change overlapping with the extern removals from Joe Perches.

In drivers/net/netconsole.c we had one change adjusting a printk message
whilst another changed "printk(KERN_INFO" into "pr_info(".

Lastly, the emulex change was a new inline function addition overlapping
with Joe Perches's extern removals.

b4dfd326c2 ibm emac: Don't call napi_complete if napi_reschedule failed
This patch fixes a bug which would trigger the BUG_ON() at
net/core/dev.c:4156. It was found that this was due to continuing
processing in the current poll call even when the call to
napi_reschedule failed, indicating the device was already on the
polling list. This resulted in an extra call to napi_complete which
triggered the BUG_ON().

This patch ensures that we only contine processing rotting packets in

496322bc91 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next
Pull networking updates from David Miller:
"This is a re-do of the net-next pull request for the current merge
window. The only difference from the one I made the other day is that
this has Eliezer's interface renames and the timeout handling changes
made based upon your feedback, as well as a few bug fixes that have
  trickeled in.

  Highlights:

   1) Low latency device polling, eliminating the cost of interrupt
handling and context switches. Allows direct polling of a network
device from socket operations, such as recvmsg() and poll().

Currently ixgbe, mlx4, and bnx2x support this feature.

Full high level description, performance numbers, and design in
      commit 0a4db187a9 ("Merge branch 'll_poll'")

      From Eliezer Tamir.

   2) With the routing cache removed, ip_check_mc_rcu() gets exercised
more than ever before in the case where we have lots of multicast
addresses. Use a hash table instead of a simple linked list, from
      Eric Dumazet.

   3) Add driver for Atheros CQA98xx 802.11ac wireless devices, from
Bartosz Markowski, Janusz Dziedzic, Kalle Valo, Marek Kwaczynski,
Marek Puzyniak, Michal Kazior, and Sujith Manoharan.

   4) Support reporting the TUN device persist flag to userspace, from
      Pavel Emelyanov.

   5) Allow controlling network device VF link state using netlink, from
      Rony Efraim.

   6) Support GRE tunneling in openvswitch, from Pravin B Shelar.

   7) Adjust SOCK_MIN_RCVBUF and SOCK_MIN_SNDBUF for modern times, from
      Daniel Borkmann and Eric Dumazet.

   8) Allow controlling of TCP quickack behavior on a per-route basis,
      from Cong Wang.

   9) Several bug fixes and improvements to vxlan from Stephen
Hemminger, Pravin B Shelar, and Mike Rapoport. In particular,
support receiving on multiple UDP ports.

  10) Major cleanups, particular in the area of debugging and cookie
lifetime handline, to the SCTP protocol code. From Daniel
      Borkmann.

  11) Allow packets to cross network namespaces when traversing tunnel
      devices. From Nicolas Dichtel.

  12) Allow monitoring netlink traffic via AF_PACKET sockets, in a
manner akin to how we monitor real network traffic via ptype_all.
      From Daniel Borkmann.

  13) Several bug fixes and improvements for the new alx device driver,
      from Johannes Berg.

  14) Fix scalability issues in the netem packet scheduler's time queue,
by using an rbtree. From Eric Dumazet.

  15) Several bug fixes in TCP loss recovery handling, from Yuchung
      Cheng.

  16) Add support for GSO segmentation of MPLS packets, from Simon
      Horman.

  17) Make network notifiers have a real data type for the opaque
pointer that's passed into them. Use this to properly handle
network device flag changes in arp_netdev_event(). From Jiri
      Pirko and Timo Teräs.

  18) Convert several drivers over to module_pci_driver(), from Peter
      Huewe.

  19) tcp_fixup_rcvbuf() can loop 500 times over loopback, just use a
O(1) calculation instead. From Eric Dumazet.

  20) Support setting of explicit tunnel peer addresses in ipv6, just
      like ipv4. From Nicolas Dichtel.

  21) Protect x86 BPF JIT against spraying attacks, from Eric Dumazet.

  22) Prevent a single high rate flow from overruning an individual cpu
during RX packet processing via selective flow shedding. From
      Willem de Bruijn.

  23) Don't use spinlocks in TCP md5 signing fast paths, from Eric
      Dumazet.

  24) Don't just drop GSO packets which are above the TBF scheduler's
burst limit, chop them up so they are in-bounds instead. Also
      from Eric Dumazet.

  25) VLAN offloads are missed when configured on top of a bridge, fix
      from Vlad Yasevich.

  26) Support IPV6 in ping sockets. From Lorenzo Colitti.

  27) Receive flow steering targets should be updated at poll() time
      too, from David Majnemer.

  28) Fix several corner case regressions in PMTU/redirect handling due
to the routing cache removal, from Timo Teräs.

  29) We have to be mindful of ipv4 mapped ipv6 sockets in
      upd_v6_push_pending_frames().  From Hannes Frederic Sowa.

  30) Fix L2TP sequence number handling bugs, from James Chapman."

23fbb5a87c emac: Fix EMAC soft reset on 460EX/GT
Fix EMAC soft reset on 460EX/GT to select the right PHY clock source
before and after the soft reset.

EMAC with PHY should use the clock from PHY during soft reset.
EMAC without PHY should use the internal clock during soft reset.

PPC460EX/GT Embedded Processor Advanced User's Manual
section 28.10.1 Mode Register 0 (EMACx_MR0) states:
Note: The PHY must provide a TX Clk in order to perform a soft reset
of the EMAC. If none is present, select the internal clock
(SDR0_ETH_CFG[EMACx_PHY_CLK] = 1).
After a soft reset, select the external clock.

Without the fix, 460EX/GT-based boards with RGMII PHYs attached to
EMACs experience EMAC interrupt storm and system watchdog reset when
issuing "ifconfig eth0 down" + "ifconfig eth0 up" a few times.
The system enters endless loop of serving emac_irq() with EMACx_ISR
register stuck at value 0x10000000 (Rx parity error).

d90c92fee8 ibmveth: Fix alignment of rx queue bug
This patch fixes a bug found by Nish Aravamudan
(https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/5/15/220) where the driver is not following
the spec (it is not aligning the rx buffer on a 16-byte boundary) and the
hypervisor aborts the registration, making the device unusable.

The fix follows BenH's recommendation (https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/7/20/461)
to replace the kmalloc+map for a single call to dma_alloc_coherent()
because that function always aligns to a 16-byte boundary.

The stable trees will run into this bug whenever the rx buffer kmalloc call
returns something not aligned on a 16-byte boundary.

380ec964bc ehea: fix losing of NEQ events when one event occurred early
The NEQ interrupt is only triggered when there was no previous pending
interrupt. If we request irq handling after an interrupt has occurred,
we will never get an interrupt until we call H_RESET_EVENTS.

Events seem to be cleared when we first register the NEQ. So, when we
requested irq handling right after registering it, a possible race with
an interrupt was much less likely. Now, there is a chance we may lose
this race and never get any events.

The fix here is to poll and acknowledge any events that might have
happened right after registering the irq handler.

945db2d4f4 ehea: Allocate large enough skbs to avoid partial cacheline DMA writes
The ehea adapter has a mode where it will avoid partial cacheline DMA
writes on receive by always padding packets to fall on a cacheline

Unfortunately we currently aren't allocating enough space for a full

It's unfortunate that the next largest packet size exposed by the
hypervisor interface is 2kB, meaning our skb allocation comes out of a
4kB SLAB. However the performance increase due to this optimisation is
quite large and my TCP stream numbers increase from 900MB to 1000MB/sec.

3b3bceef26 net: fix IBM EMAC driver after rename.
In commit 9aa3283595 (ehea/ibm*: Move the
IBM drivers) the IBM_NEW_EMAC* were renames to IBM_EMAC*

The conversion was incomplete so that even if the driver was added to
the .config it wasn't built, but there were no errors). In this commit
we also update the various defconfigs that use EMAC to use the new
Kconfig symbol, and explicitly add the NET_VENDOR_IBM guard.

We do not explicitly select the Kconfig dependencies, as this would force
EMAC on. Doing it in the defconfig allows more flexibility.
