treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion: void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused) { ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script: spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; treewide: init_timer() -> setup_timer()
This mechanically converts all remaining cases of ancient open-coded timer setup with the old setup_timer() API, which is the first step in timer conversions. This has no behavioral changes, since it ultimately just changes the order of assignment to fields of struct timer_list when finding variations of: init_timer(&t); f.function = timer_callback; t.data = timer_callback_arg; to be converted into: setup_timer(&t, timer_callback, timer_callback_arg); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script, which is an improved version of scripts/cocci/api/setup_timer.cocci, in the following ways: - assignments-before-init_timer() cases - limit the .data case removal to the specific struct timer_list instance - handling calls by dereference (timer->field vs timer.field) spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/setup_timer.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; @@ init_timer( -&(e) +&e , ...) // Match the common cases first to avoid Coccinelle parsing loops with // "... when" clauses. @match_immediate_function_data_after_init_timer@ expression e, func, da; @@ -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); ( -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; | -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; ) @match_immediate_function_data_before_init_timer@ expression e, func, da; @@ ( -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; | -\(e.data\|e->data\) = da; -\(e.function\|e->function\) = func; ) -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); @match_function_and_data_after_init_timer@ expression e, e2, e3, e4, e5, func, da; @@ -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); ... when != func = e2 when != da = e3 ( -e.function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e.data = da; | -e->function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e->data = da; | -e.data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e.function = func; | -e->data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e->function = func; ) @match_function_and_data_before_init_timer@ expression e, e2, e3, e4, e5, func, da; @@ ( -e.function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e.data = da; | -e->function = func; ... when != da = e4 -e->data = da; | -e.data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e.function = func; | -e->data = da; ... when != func = e5 -e->function = func; ) ... when != func = e2 when != da = e3 -init_timer +setup_timer ( \(&e\|e\) +, func, da ); @r1 exists@ expression t; identifier f; position p; @@ f(...) { ... when any init_timer@p(\(&t\|t\)) ... when any } @r2 exists@ expression r1.t; identifier g != r1.f; expression e8; @@ g(...) { ... when any \(t.data\|t->data\) = e8 ... when any } // It is dangerous to use setup_timer if data field is initialized // in another function. @script:python depends on r2@ p << r1.p; @@ cocci.include_match(False) @r3@ expression r1.t, func, e7; position r1.p; @@ ( -init_timer@p(&t); +setup_timer(&t, func, 0UL); ... when != func = e7 -t.function = func; | -t.function = func; ... when != func = e7 -init_timer@p(&t); +setup_timer(&t, func, 0UL); | -init_timer@p(t); +setup_timer(t, func, 0UL); ... when != func = e7 -t->function = func; | -t->function = func; ... when != func = e7 -init_timer@p(t); +setup_timer(t, func, 0UL); ) Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> |

This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.15
kernel cycle: Core: - The pin control Kconfig entry PINCTRL is now turned into a menuconfig option. This obviously has the implication of making the subsystem menu visible in menuconfig. This is happening because of two things: - Intel have started to deploy and depend on pin controllers in a way that is affecting users directly. This happens on the highly integrated laptop chipsets named after geographical places: baytrail, broxton, cannonlake, cedarfork, cherryview, denverton, geminilake, lewisburg, merrifield, sunrisepoint... It started a while back and now it is ever more evident that this is crucial infrastructure for x86 laptops and not an embedded obscurity anymore. Users need to be aware. - Pin control expanders on I2C and SPI that are arch-agnostic. Currently Semtech SX150X and Microchip MCP28x08 but more are expected. Users will have to be able to configure these in directly for their set-up. - Just go and select GPIOLIB now that we made sure that GPIOLIB is a very vanilla subsystem. Do not depend on it, if we need it, select it. - Exposing the pin control subsystem in menuconfig uncovered a bunch of obscure bugs that are now hopefully fixed, all more or less pertaining to Blackfin. - Unified namespace for cross-calls between pin control and GPIO. - New support for clock skew/delay generic DT bindings and generic pin config options for this. - Minor documentation improvements. Various: - The Renesas SH-PFC pin controller has evolved a lot. It seems Renesas are churning out new SoCs by the minute. - A bunch of non-critical fixes for the Rockchip driver. - Improve the use of library functions instead of open coding. - Support the MCP28018 variant in the MCP28x08 driver. - Static constifying. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJaDV9TAAoJEEEQszewGV1zf0AQAIlHxM8B0mJPOFv7WdPIHs8j GSGAPv0rPobdgZI8vegosIQmAiry5jjaHP6VGOrK5n8FRxfBLd89NLT7dgK7J9Yx tYcQRQn1/MqZKaIjWWgTes3okEr9s77Of3aWkA9gyvBjTGoo2hu8BTwZOYuPrIPP aYcI7VR0VbTe7FQR1QRtKBXnBTXfznF1j5ckKNY4ahgIPcUgxyh6EA1E61rDorLK gvwwzoBqIKQAcnapgarF7YOJjoE0i7ZoSlhL0b0nvhcgolyK/zLN4xujLcTGPeTJ hQwe7LhxtvtmJmu0jRMuetDLFT52d6eq8ttyFBMULkgRzcgMv6GZZXUy4k92t7ZT F2DRbAjyAlxkhUhQ8BORzEXwfWYITt1M49jWQqugdDR2fV/MAlF8motOkVBl73iS zHIQ/ZDcAD+PlwTHiDyDOUxj7qyDs2MkTLTzfXc0koOQZOqskDHQ1dIf3UzLzZ9S /dx339/ejwP73E0lzOsanhianfonqWZ3Apn3aRG18uqCt2+eHySWpxyRANuOlBZI czERg+47wDfng24xyuH0EElgbS5G0Bt1lT5zLVLdFEvoLmcBHVKqaCkiuvYXOjVM GyMRvQPiJbhT6qiJ+aSP8t/utl1aUhXQLtrUnXxu8qv9tQ6jgmqiQd9855Uvrzb0 ZR2wyNc2jtWzwCfrkWjt =kj/b -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pinctrl-v4.15-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.15 kernel cycle: Core: - The pin control Kconfig entry PINCTRL is now turned into a menuconfig option. They are namely: - to-gpiod conversion of the i2c-gpio driver and its users (touching arch/* and drivers/mfd/*) - adding a sbs-manager based on I2C core updates to SMBus alerts (touching drivers/power/*) Other notable changes: - i2c_boardinfo can now carry a dev_name to be used when the device is created. This is because some devices in ACPI world need fixed names to find the regulators. - the designware driver got a long discussed overhaul of its PM handling. img-scb and davinci got PM support, too. - at24 driver has way better OF support. License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with a license
Many user space API headers have licensing information, which is either incomplete, badly formatted or just a shorthand for referring to the license under which the file is supposed to be. This makes it hard for compliance tools to determine the correct license. Update these files with an SPDX license identifier. The identifier was chosen based on the license information in the file. GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall exception: NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work". This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL code, without confusing license compliance tools. Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier. The format is: ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR SPDX-ID-OF-OTHER-LICENSE) SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. The update does not remove existing license information as this has to be done on a case by case basis and the copyright holders might have to be consulted. This will happen in a separate step. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. See the previous patch in this series for the methodology of how this patch was researched. License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with no license
Many user space API headers are missing licensing information, which makes it hard for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default are files without license information under the default license of the kernel, which is GPLV2. Marking them GPLV2 would exclude them from being included in non GPLV2 code, which is obviously not intended. The user space API headers fall under the syscall exception which is in the kernels COPYING file: NOTE! License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. We now handle the open drain mode internally in the I2C GPIO driver, but we will get warnings from the gpiolib that we override the default mode of the line so it becomes open drain. We can fix all in-kernel users by simply passing the right flag along in the descriptor table, and we already touched all of these files in the series so let's just tidy it up. i2c: gpio: Convert to use descriptors
This converts the GPIO-based I2C-driver to using GPIO descriptors instead of the old global numberspace-based GPIO interface. We: - Convert the driver to unconditionally grab two GPIOs from the device by index 0 (SDA) and 1 (SCL) which will work fine with device tree and descriptor tables. The existing device trees will continue to work just like before, but without any roundtrip through the global numberspace. - Brutally convert all boardfiles still passing global GPIOs by registering descriptor tables associated with the devices instead so this driver does not need to keep supporting passing any GPIO numbers as platform data. There is no stepwise approach as elegant as this, I strongly prefer this big hammer over any antsteps for this conversion. This way the old GPIO numbers go away and NEVER COME BACK. Special conversion for the different boards utilizing I2C-GPIO: - EP93xx (arch/arm/mach-ep93xx): pretty straight forward as all boards were using the same two GPIO lines, just define these two in a lookup table for "i2c-gpio" and register these along with the device. None of them define any other platform data so just pass NULL as platform data. This platform selects GPIOLIB so all should be smooth. The pins appear on a gpiochip for bank "G" as pins 1 (SDA) and 0 (SCL). - IXP4 (arch/arm/mach-ixp4): descriptor tables have to be registered for each board separately. They all use "IXP4XX_GPIO_CHIP" so it is pretty straight forward. Most board define no other platform data than SCL/SDA so they can drop the #include of <linux/i2c-gpio.h> and assign NULL to platform data. The "goramo_mlr" (Goramo Multilink Router) board is a bit worrisome: it implements its own I2C bit-banging in the board file, and optionally registers an I2C serial port, but claims the same GPIO lines for itself in the board file. This is not going to work: there will be competition for the GPIO lines, so delete the optional extra I2C bus instead, no I2C devices are registered on it anyway, there are just hints that it may contain an EEPROM that may be accessed from userspace. This needs to be fixed up properly by the serial clock using I2C emulation so drop a note in the code. - KS8695 board acs5k (arch/arm/mach-ks8695/board-acs5.c) has some platform data in addition to the pins so it needs to be kept around sans GPIO lines. Its GPIO chip is named "KS8695" and the arch selects GPIOLIB. - PXA boards (arch/arm/mach-pxa/*) use some of the platform data so it needs to be preserved here. The viper board even registers two GPIO I2Cs. The gpiochip is named "gpio-pxa" and the arch selects GPIOLIB. - SA1100 Simpad (arch/arm/mach-sa1100/simpad.c) defines a GPIO I2C bus, and the arch selects GPIOLIB. - Blackfin boards (arch/blackfin/bf533 etc) for these I assume their I2C GPIOs refer to the local gpiochip defined in arch/blackfin/kernel/bfin_gpio.c names "BFIN-GPIO". The arch selects GPIOLIB. The boards get spiked with IF_ENABLED(I2C_GPIO) but that is a side effect of it being like that already (I would just have Kconfig select I2C_GPIO and get rid of them all.) I also delete any platform data set to 0 as it will get that value anyway from static declartions of platform data. - The MIPS selects GPIOLIB and the Alchemy machine is using two local GPIO chips, one of them has a GPIO I2C. We need to adjust the local offset from the global number space here. The ATH79 has a proper GPIO driver in drivers/gpio/gpio-ath79.c and AFAICT the chip is named "ath79-gpio" and the PB44 PCF857x expander spawns from this on GPIO 1 and 0. The latter board only use the platform data to specify pins so it can be cut altogether after this. - The MFD Silicon Motion SM501 is a special case. It dynamically spawns an I2C bus off the MFD using sm501_create_subdev(). We use an approach to dynamically create a machine descriptor table and attach this to the "SM501-LOW" or "SM501-HIGH" gpiochip. We use chip-local offsets to grab the right lines. We can get rid of two local static inline helpers as part of this refactoring. blackfin: Fix local <asm/gpio.h> includes
When making the pin control submenu globally visible, all kinds of oddities appear, in blackfin a few files were #including <linux/gpio.h> and relying on that to pull in <asm/gpio.h>. This was not working when pin control but not GPIOLIB was selected resulting in a breakage in allmodconfig. The code these files were using was still there and defined in <asm/gpio.h> just not pulle in from just including <linux/gpio.h> Simply add the required includes explicitly in the blackfin kernel core and everything compiles fine. Delete the use of the incorrect <linux/gpio.h> where possible. Add stubs to <asm/gpio.h> for the functions called from PM: these should probably also depend on !PINCTRL but since the global CONFIG_PM symbol is used to compile PM support, we need some more intrusive thing here, to be tested by Blackfin maintainers. pinctrl: adi2: Fix Kconfig build problem
The build robot is complaining on Blackfin: drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-adi2.c: In function 'port_setup': >> drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-adi2.c:221:21: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type 'struct gpio_port_t' writew(readw(®s->port_fer) & ~BIT(offset), ^~ drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-adi2.c: In function 'adi_gpio_ack_irq': >> drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-adi2.c:266:18: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type 'struct bfin_pint_regs' if (readl(®s->invert_set) & pintbit) ^~ It seems the driver need to include <asm/gpio.h> and <asm/irq.h> to compile. The Blackfin architecture was re-defining the Kconfig PINCTRL symbol which is not OK, so replaced this with PINCTRL_BLACKFIN_ADI2 which selects PINCTRL and PINCTRL_ADI2 just like most arches do. Further, the old GPIO driver symbol GPIO_ADI was possible to select at the same time as selecting PINCTRL. This was not working because the arch-local <asm/gpio.h> header contains an explicit #ifndef PINCTRL clause making compilation break if you combine them. The same is true for DEBUG_MMRS. Make sure the ADI2 pinctrl driver is not selected at the same time as the old GPIO implementation. (This should be converted to use gpiolib or pincontrol and move to drivers/...) Also make sure the old GPIO_ADI driver or DEBUG_MMRS is not selected at the same time as the new PINCTRL implementation, and only make PINCTRL_ADI2 selectable for the Blackfin families that actually have it. This way it is still possible to add e.g. I2C-based pin control expanders on the Blackfin. Pull namespace updates from Eric Biederman: "Life has been busy and I have not gotten half as much done this round as I would have liked. I delayed it so that a minor conflict resolution with the mips tree could spend a little time in linux-next before I sent this pull request. This includes two long delayed user namespace changes from Kirill Tkhai. It also includes a very useful change from Serge Hallyn that allows the security capability attribute to be used inside of user namespaces. The practical effect of this is people can now untar tarballs and install rpms in user namespaces. It had been suggested to generalize this and encode some of the namespace information information in the xattr name. Upon close inspection that makes the things that should be hard easy and the things that should be easy more expensive. Then there is my bugfix/cleanup for signal injection that removes the magic encoding of the siginfo union member from the kernel internal si_code. The mips folks reported the case where I had used FPE_FIXME me is impossible so I have remove FPE_FIXME from mips, while at the same time including a return statement in that case to keep gcc from complaining about unitialized variables. arch: Remove spin_unlock_wait() arch-specific definitions
There is no agreed-upon definition of spin_unlock_wait()'s semantics, and it appears that all callers could do just as well with a lock/unlock pair. This commit therefore removes the underlying arch-specific arch_spin_unlock_wait() for all architectures providing them. Signed-off-by: Paul E. We are planning to share more code between different NAND based devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header containing all common structure and function prototypes. signal: Remove kernel interal si_code magic
struct siginfo is a union and the kernel since 2.4 has been hiding a union tag in the high 16bits of si_code using the values: __SI_KILL __SI_TIMER __SI_POLL __SI_FAULT __SI_CHLD __SI_RT __SI_MESGQ __SI_SYS While this looks plausible on the surface, in practice this situation has not worked well. - Injected positive signals are not copied to user space properly unless they have these magic high bits set. - Injected positive signals are not reported properly by signalfd unless they have these magic high bits set. - These kernel internal values leaked to userspace via ptrace_peek_siginfo - It was possible to inject these kernel internal values and cause the the kernel to misbehave. - Kernel developers got confused and expected these kernel internal values in userspace in kernel self tests. - Kernel developers got confused and set si_code to __SI_FAULT which is SI_USER in userspace which causes userspace to think an ordinary user sent the signal and that it was not kernel generated. - The values make it impossible to reorganize the code to transform siginfo_copy_to_user into a plain copy_to_user. As si_code must be massaged before being passed to userspace. So remove these kernel internal si codes and make the kernel code simpler and more maintainable. To replace these kernel internal magic si_codes introduce the helper function siginfo_layout, that takes a signal number and an si_code and computes which union member of siginfo is being used. Have siginfo_layout return an enumeration so that gcc will have enough information to warn if a switch statement does not handle all of union members. A couple of architectures have a messed up ABI that defines signal specific duplications of SI_USER which causes more special cases in siginfo_layout than I would like. The good news is only problem architectures pay the cost. Update all of the code that used the previous magic __SI_ values to use the new SIL_ values and to call siginfo_layout to get those values. Escept where not all of the cases are handled remove the defaults in the switch statements so that if a new case is missed in the future the lack will show up at compile time. Modify the code that copies siginfo si_code to userspace to just copy the value and not cast si_code to a short first. The high bits are no longer used to hold a magic union member. Fixup the siginfo header files to stop including the __SI_ values in their constants and for the headers that were missing it to properly update the number of si_codes for each signal type. The fixes to copy_siginfo_from_user32 implementations has the interesting property that several of them perviously should never have worked as the __SI_ values they depended up where kernel internal. With that dependency gone those implementations should work much better. The idea of not passing the __SI_ values out to userspace and then not reinserting them has been tested with criu and criu worked without changes. Ref: 2.4.0-test1 Signed-off-by: "Eric W. kernel/watchdog: introduce arch_touch_nmi_watchdog()
For architectures that define HAVE_NMI_WATCHDOG, instead of having them provide the complete touch_nmi_watchdog() function, just have them provide arch_touch_nmi_watchdog(). This gives the generic code more flexibility in implementing this function, and arch implementations don't miss out on touching the softlockup watchdog or other generic details. This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.13 series:
Core: - Export add/remove for lookup tables so that modules can export GPIO descriptor tables. - Handle GPIO sleep states: it is now possible to flag that a GPIO line may loose its state during suspend/resume of the system to save power. This is used in the Wolfson Micro Arizona driver. - ACPI-based GPIO was tightened up a lot around the edges. - Use bitmap_fill() to speed up a loop. New drivers: - Exar XRA1403 SPI-based GPIO. - MVEBU driver now supports Armada 7K and 8K. - LP87565 PMIC GPIO. - Renesas R-CAR R8A7743 (RZ/G1M). - The new IOT2040 8250 serial/GPIO also comes in through this changeset. Substantial driver changes: - Seriously fix the Exar 8250 GPIO portions to work. - The MCP23S08 was moved out to a pin control driver. - Convert MEVEBU to use regmap for register access. - Drop Vulcan support from the Broadcom driver. - Serious cleanup and improvement of the mockup driver, giving us a better test coverage. Misc: - Lots of janitorial clean up. - A bunch of documentation fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJZX1MjAAoJEEEQszewGV1zEYUQALFsjJH7D2mRN4TSSEeVAcYr Uz52uupsou8tgW0IupRb/khO+V6zgd7j+kHDJLMxX+rCTw3pTq5+XGyi5+iNpxof TIIT1XBx4eq7Q/n4nWdGodHbHN9BXw7cGsNmTb1TS/G/6h1wOKxfzjvUNhDAC+2v idPy6B5G+WrDsYpBtTWlKHKQKVqbUlhLFyJYoglzqIeM5L9Ry/UoZ6sGleho3hKn Vlg/hMtkCexnVO9zopBe5CuEfseLrkcCgCvtQ713egzVXApryp4hqm3Xti20Ntgy OxnKhmVyloqd0kU0qLSpvDAf7B1invbHHbeZsag6wluTMrxgUYJONuonrqGeGiwB FBDtw9SGn2GlEXcs7sg8ANmAyr2XxxezKXD9XLBL5jadNB2KCY5yKMv1IK3VnYdq gEpFAiZ5cmlpZxIXqlyeZP6LKHNTci4amb33x1I/ghH2BTkGQ/3E3anXEbPNWF8G DDE6nrSgU0oQcNqRHyZaWNZpUIz4aFUgJtOEO4lYYP4+VzYSKTdrHseTiiJ91J7E WBz9p5JvSnB22+60RhyTAPjVjXgWa30nidf7WGCK0UHiIYffihCxGZRTlrhoEEUB fXgveJpqxLopYvxpUxi1OqlPYYo7zKRF5BzHsjKMpdVYXfdMdvs7eq2g/X889i1D WpbE9LyAH9FY5BM8YjFX =TpW1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'gpio-v4.13-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.13 series. This is the first pull request for the new dma-mapping subsystem
In this new subsystem we'll try to properly maintain all the generic code related to dma-mapping, and will further consolidate arch code into common helpers. This pull request contains: - removal of the DMA_ERROR_CODE macro, replacing it with calls to ->mapping_error so that the dma_map_ops instances are more self contained and can be shared across architectures (me) - removal of the ->set_dma_mask method, which duplicates the ->dma_capable one in terms of functionality, but requires more duplicate code. - various updates for the coherent dma pool and related arm code (Vladimir) - various smaller cleanups (me) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQI/BAABCAApFiEEgdbnc3r/njty3Iq9D55TZVIEUYMFAlldmw0LHGhjaEBsc3Qu ZGUACgkQD55TZVIEUYOiKA/+Ln1mFLSf3nfTzIHa24Bbk8ZTGr0B8TD4Vmyyt8iG oO3AeaTLn3d6ugbH/uih/tPz8PuyXsdiTC1rI/ejDMiwMTSjW6phSiIHGcStSR9X VFNhmMFacp7QpUpvxceV0XZYKDViAoQgHeGdp3l+K5h/v4AYePV/v/5RjQPaEyOh YLbCzETO+24mRWdJxdAqtTW4ovYhzj6XsiJ+pAjlV0+SWU6m5L5E+VAPNi1vqv1H 1O2KeCFvVYEpcnfL3qnkw2timcjmfCfeFAd9mCUAc8mSRBfs3QgDTKw3XdHdtRml LU2WuA5cpMrOdBO4mVra2plo8E2szvpB1OZZXoKKdCpK3VGwVpVHcTvClK2Ks/3B GDLieroEQNu2ZIUIdWXf/g2x6le3BcC9MmpkAhnGPqCZ7skaIBO5Cjpxm0zTJAPl PPY3CMBBEktAvys6DcudOYGixNjKUuAm5lnfpcfTEklFdG0AjhdK/jZOplAFA6w4 LCiy0rGHM8ZbVAaFxbYoFCqgcjnv6EjSiqkJxVI4fu/Q7v9YXfdPnEmE0PJwCVo5 +i7aCLgrYshTdHr/F3e5EuofHN3TDHwXNJKGh/x97t+6tt326QMvDKX059Kxst7R rFukGbrYvG8Y7yXwrSDbusl443ta0Ht7T1oL4YUoJTZp0nScAyEluDTmrH1JVCsT R4o= =0Fso -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'dma-mapping-4.13' of git://git.infradead.org/users/hch/dma-mapping Pull dma-mapping infrastructure from Christoph Hellwig: "This is the first pull request for the new dma-mapping subsystem In this new subsystem we'll try to properly maintain all the generic code related to dma-mapping, and will further consolidate arch code into common helpers. This is the big bulk of pin control changes for the v4.13 series:
Core: - The documentation is moved over to RST. - We now have agreed bindings for enabling input and output buffers without actually enabling input and/or output on a pin. We are chiseling out some details of pin control electronics. New drivers: - ZTE ZX - Renesas RZA1 - MIPS Ingenic JZ47xx: also switch over existing drivers in the tree to use this pin controller and consolidate earlier spread out code. - Microschip MCP23S08: this driver is migrated from the GPIO subsystem and totally rewritten to use proper pin control. All users are switched over. New subdrivers: - Renesas R8A7743 and R8A7745. - Allwinner Sunxi A83T R_PIO. - Marvell MVEBU Armada CP110 and AP806. - Intel Cannon Lake PCH. - Qualcomm IPQ8074. Notable improvements: - IRQ support on the Marvell MVEBU Armada 37xx. - Meson driver supports HDMI CEC, AO, I2S, SPDIF and PWM. - Rockchip driver now supports iomux-route switching for RK3228, RK3328 and RK3399. - Rockchip A10 and A20 are merged into a single driver. - STM32 has improved GPIO support. - Samsung Exynos drivers are split per ARMv7 and ARMv8. - Marvell MVEBU is converted to use regmap for register access. Maintenance: - Several Renesas SH-PFC refactorings and updates. - Serious code size cut for Mediatek MT7623. - Misc janitorial and MAINTAINERS fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJZXeUhAAoJEEEQszewGV1zcl8QAMZ6To2JBQeK0Qi+pik9ZbW7 CvnIFT7E4X45tstwFNKIgdQ1C/IcfzKpPSUDRUqi2nWJiWcuYgn3wQwQ5qbkGtaG vne0KVChgFGkT2SwycUZy11JxuP75U73e27BwAruxHhwWo5PesUOjjkmUtMqdbNQ VAwx6KoCBx1VBlb0uscbSSqFyAspdyeAHPEvSj4IpsqRZzT7YFqDm4C+uTnwavPx ZLoTji0HCpPIAo4C8JUAvweWbpxMC1IMdfm9jRkZ4rR/gTFQXvK+9ssI6lxSK6a6 RiCJaAE6wQHKYm4LL0pGbW+aMGWRRRp8MERNmg8NgnWONcfCxYowoOYeYLeqPhAg kWkFHlmjpfo/A79V6tmN32vCpeQd34XGCetMpI93TuZ42olniD2Puv6RscVaSP3T 3mIqydX9BY8iAviyMaLcHQeChaNdhLQi+AVjrn1VQjdkWn0C7uR++JznsyaxaI+S cVadl6k8H393R1Qdvh3JdoL0owsntQxWVWCbR6fyAZTHHiLGEyvL1ceO/rbpSRrn c8Ghk5s7f3DFltn7yWiV4k3KVhDPb5iK2dYP9uGCgqbigHWqlcB5PanRu1aGSFov h/1VFEMagNCXQCrgGcIfmkEiwW3SqUsFaaoMLhlYpNb/ON3ihGgsZYiczWSj8l4L yfCOoszuEsVkV1dFNAjA =dUFL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pinctrl-v4.13-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the big bulk of pin control changes for the v4.13 series: Core: - The documentation is moved over to RST. - We now have agreed bindings for enabling input and output buffers without actually enabling input and/or output on a pin. drivers: dma-mapping: allow dma_common_mmap() for NOMMU
Currently, internals of dma_common_mmap() is compiled out if build is done for either NOMMU or target which explicitly says it does not have/want coherent DMA mmap. It turned out that dma_common_mmap() can be handy in NOMMU setup (at least for ARM). This patch converts exitent NOMMU targets to use ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP, thus when CONFIG_MMU is gone from dma_common_mmap() their behaviour stays unchanged. ARM is not converted to ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP because it 1) already has mmap callback which can handle (at some extent) NOMMU 2) already defines dummy pgprot_noncached() for NOMMU build. c6x and frv stay untouched since they already have ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP.
