rcu: Make rcu_barrier() account for offline no-CBs CPUs
Currently, rcu_barrier() ignores offline CPUs, However, it is possible
for an offline no-CBs CPU to have callbacks queued, and rcu_barrier()
must wait for those callbacks. This commit therefore makes rcu_barrier()
directly invoke the rcu_barrier_func() with interrupts disabled for such
CPUs. This requires passing the CPU number into this function so that
it can entrain the rcu_barrier() callback onto the correct CPU's callback
list, given that the code must instead execute on the current CPU.
While in the area, this commit fixes a bug where the first CPU's callback
might have been invoked before rcu_segcblist_entrain() returned, which
would also result in an early wakeup.

Fix a couple of tracelines to indicate the usage count after the atomic op,

sched/pelt: Add support to track thermal pressure
Extrapolating on the existing framework to track rt/dl utilization using pelt signals, add a similar mechanism to track thermal pressure. The difference here from rt/dl utilization tracking is that, instead of tracking time spent by a CPU running a RT/DL task through util_avg, the average thermal pressure is tracked through load_avg. This is because thermal pressure signal is weighted time "delta" capacity unlike util_avg which is binary. "delta capacity" here means delta between the actual capacity of a CPU and the decreased capacity a CPU due to a thermal event. In order to track average thermal pressure, a new sched_avg variable avg_thermal is introduced. Function update_thermal_load_avg can be called to do the periodic bookkeeping (accumulate, decay and average) of the thermal pressure. io_uring: use poll driven retry for files that support it
Currently io_uring tries any request in a non-blocking manner, if it can, and then retries from a worker thread if we get -EAGAIN. Now that we have a new and fancy poll based retry backend, use that to retry requests if the file supports it. This means that, for example, an IORING_OP_RECVMSG on a socket no longer requires an async thread to complete the IO. If we get -EAGAIN reading from the socket in a non-blocking manner, we arm a poll handler for notification on when the socket becomes readable. When it does, the pending read is executed directly by the task again, through the io_uring task work handlers. Not only is this faster and more efficient, it also means we're not generating potentially tons of async threads that just sit and block, waiting for the IO to complete. sched:sched_stick_numa is meant to fire when a task is unable to migrate to the preferred node but from the trace, it's possibile to tell the difference between "no CPU found", "migration to idle CPU failed" and "tasks could not be swapped". Extend the tracepoint accordingly. rcu: Add a trace event for kfree_rcu() use of kfree_bulk()
The event is given three parameters, first one is the name of RCU flavour, second one is the number of elements in array for free and last one is an address of the array holding pointers to be freed by the kfree_bulk() function. To enable the trace event your kernel has to be build with CONFIG_RCU_TRACE=y, after that it is possible to track the events using ftrace subsystem. Modify the definitions of the CPU latency QoS trace events to take one argument (since PM_QOS_CPU_DMA_LATENCY is always passed as the pm_qos_class argument to them) and update the documentation of them accordingly (while at it, make it explicitly mention CPU latency QoS and relocate it after the device PM QoS trace events documentation). PM: QoS: Drop pm_qos_update_request_timeout()
The pm_qos_update_request_timeout() function is not called from anywhere, so drop it along with the work member in struct pm_qos_request needed by it. Also drop the useless pm_qos_update_request_timeout trace event that is only triggered by that function (so it never triggers at all) and update the trace events documentation accordingly. memcg: fix a crash in wb_workfn when a device disappears
Without memcg, there is a one-to-one mapping between the bdi and bdi_writeback structures. In this world, things are fairly straightforward; the first thing bdi_unregister() does is to shutdown the bdi_writeback structure (or wb), and part of that writeback ensures that no other work queued against the wb, and that the wb is fully drained. With memcg, however, there is a one-to-many relationship between the bdi and bdi_writeback structures; that is, there are multiple wb objects which can all point to a single bdi. There is a refcount which prevents the bdi object from being released (and hence, unregistered). So in theory, the bdi_unregister() *should* only get called once its refcount goes to zero (bdi_put will drop the refcount, and when it is zero, release_bdi gets called, which calls bdi_unregister). Unfortunately, del_gendisk() in block/gen_hd.c never got the memo about the Brave New memcg World, and calls bdi_unregister directly. It does this without informing the file system, or the memcg code, or anything else. This causes the root wb associated with the bdi to be unregistered, but none of the memcg-specific wb's are shutdown. So when one of these wb's are woken up to do delayed work, they try to dereference their wb->bdi->dev to fetch the device name, but unfortunately bdi->dev is now NULL, thanks to the bdi_unregister() called by del_gendisk(). As a result, *boom*. Fortunately, it looks like the rest of the writeback path is perfectly happy with bdi->dev and bdi->owner being NULL, so the simplest fix is to create a bdi_dev_name() function which can handle bdi->dev being NULL. This also allows us to bulletproof the writeback tracepoints to prevent them from dereferencing a NULL pointer and crashing the kernel if one is tracing with memcg's enabled, and an iSCSI device dies or a USB storage stick is pulled. The most common way of triggering this will be hotremoval of a device while writeback with memcg enabled is going on. It was triggering several times a day in a heavily loaded production environment. In this series, we've implemented transparent compression experimentally. It supports LZO and LZ4, but will add more later as we investigate in the field more. At this point, the feature doesn't expose compressed space to user directly in order to guarantee potential data updates later to the space. Instead, the main goal is to reduce data writes to flash disk as much as possible, resulting in extending disk life time as well as relaxing IO congestion. Alternatively, we're also considering to add ioctl() to reclaim compressed space and show it to user after putting the immutable bit. This commit removes kfree_rcu() special-casing and the lazy-callback handling from Tree RCU. The following series extends MR creation routines to allow creation of user MRs through kernel ULPs as a proxy. The immediate use case is to allow RDS to work over FS-DAX, which requires ODP (on-demand-paging) MRs to be created and such MRs were not possible to create prior this series. The first part of this patchset extends RDMA to have special verb ib_reg_user_mr(). The common use case that uses this function is a userspace application that allocates memory for HCA access but the responsibility to register the memory at the HCA is on an kernel ULP. This ULP acts as an agent for the userspace application. The second part provides advise MR functionality for ULPs. This is integral part of ODP flows and used to trigger pagefaults in advance to prepare memory before running working set. btrfs: make btrfs_ordered_extent naming consistent with btrfs_file_extent_item
ordered->start, ordered->len, and ordered->disk_len correspond to fi->disk_bytenr, fi->num_bytes, and fi->disk_num_bytes, respectively. It's confusing to translate between the two naming schemes. Since a btrfs_ordered_extent is basically a pending btrfs_file_extent_item, let's make the former use the naming from the latter. Note that I didn't touch the names in tracepoints just in case there are scripts depending on the current naming.
