memblock: stop using implicit alignment to SMP_CACHE_BYTES
When a memblock allocation APIs are called with align = 0, the alignment is implicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES. Implicit alignment is done deep in the memblock allocator and it can come as a surprise. Not that such an alignment would be wrong even when used incorrectly but it is better to be explicit for the sake of clarity and the prinicple of the least surprise. Replace all such uses of memblock APIs with the 'align' parameter explicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES and stop implicit alignment assignment in the memblock internal allocation functions. For the case when memblock APIs are used via helper functions, e.g. like iommu_arena_new_node() in Alpha, the helper functions were detected with Coccinelle's help and then manually examined and updated where appropriate. The direct memblock APIs users were updated using the semantic patch below: @@ expression size, min_addr, max_addr, nid; @@ ( | - memblock_alloc_try_nid_raw(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid_raw(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc_try_nid_nopanic(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc_try_nid(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc(size, 0) + memblock_alloc(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_raw(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_raw(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_from(size, 0, min_addr) + memblock_alloc_from(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr) | - memblock_alloc_nopanic(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_low(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_low(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_low_nopanic(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_low_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_from_nopanic(size, 0, min_addr) + memblock_alloc_from_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr) | - memblock_alloc_node(size, 0, nid) + memblock_alloc_node(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, nid) ) [mhocko@suse.com: changelog update] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style fixes] [rppt@linux.ibm.com: fix missed uses of implicit alignment] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20181016133656.GA10925@rapoport-lnx Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1538687224-17535-1-git-send-email-rppt@linux.vnet.ibm.com Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Suggested-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@suse.com> Acked-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@mips.com> [MIPS] Acked-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> [powerpc] Acked-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@suse.com> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net> Cc: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Cc: Guan Xuetao <gxt@pku.edu.cn> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@redhat.com> Cc: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> Cc: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> Cc: Richard Weinberger <richard@nod.at> Cc: Russell King <linux@armlinux.org.uk> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Cc: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

powerpc updates for 4.20
Notable changes: - A large series to rewrite our SLB miss handling, replacing a lot of fairly complicated asm with much fewer lines of C. - Following on from that, we now maintain a cache of SLB entries for each process and preload them on context switch. Leading to a 27% speedup for our context switch benchmark on Power9. - Improvements to our handling of SLB multi-hit errors. We now print more debug information when they occur, and try to continue running by flushing the SLB and reloading, rather than treating them as fatal. - Enable THP migration on 64-bit Book3S machines (eg. Power7/8/9). - Add support for physical memory up to 2PB in the linear mapping on 64-bit Book3S. We only support up to 512TB as regular system memory, otherwise the percpu allocator runs out of vmalloc space. - Add stack protector support for 32 and 64-bit, with a per-task canary. - Add support for PTRACE_SYSEMU and PTRACE_SYSEMU_SINGLESTEP. - Support recognising "big cores" on Power9, where two SMT4 cores are presented to us as a single SMT8 core. - A large series to cleanup some of our ioremap handling and PTE flags. - Add a driver for the PAPR SCM (storage class memory) interface, allowing guests to operate on SCM devices (acked by Dan). - Changes to our ftrace code to handle very large kernels, where we need to use a trampoline to get to ftrace_caller(). Many other smaller enhancements and cleanups. powerpc/powermac: Fix rtc read/write functions
As Mathieu pointed out, my conversion to time64_t was incorrect and
resulted in negative times to be read from the RTC. The problem is
that during the conversion from a byte array to a time64_t, the
'unsigned char' variable holding the top byte gets turned into a
negative signed 32-bit integer before being assigned to the 64-bit
variable for any times after 1972.
This changes the logic to cast to an unsigned 32-bit number first for
the Macintosh time and then convert that to the Unix time, which then
gives us a time in the documented 1904..2040 year range. I decided not
to use the longer 1970..2106 range that other drivers use, for
consistency with the literal interpretation of the register, but that
could be easily changed if we decide we want to support any Mac after
2040.
Just to be on the safe side, I'm also adding a WARN_ON that will
trigger if either the year 2040 has come and is observed by this
driver, or we run into an RTC that got set back to a pre-1970 date for
some reason (the two are indistinguishable).
For the RTC write functions, Andreas found another problem: both
pmu_request() and cuda_request() are varargs functions, so changing
the type of the arguments passed into them from 32 bit to 64 bit
breaks the API for the set_rtc_time functions. This changes it back to
32 bits.
The same code exists in arch/m68k/ and is patched in an identical way
now in a separate patch.

update_persistent_clock() is deprecated because it suffers from overflow in 2038 on 32-bit architectures. This changes powerpc to use the update_persistent_clock64() replacement, and to pass down 64-bit timestamps consistently. pci_get_bus_and_slot() is restrictive such that it assumes domain=0 as where a PCI device is present. This restricts the device drivers to be reused for other domain numbers. treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion: void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused) { ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script: spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; powerpc updates for 4.15
Non-highlights: - Five fixes for the >128T address space handling, both to fix bugs in our implementation and to bring the semantics exactly into line with x86. Highlights: - Support for a new OPAL call on bare metal machines which gives us a true NMI (ie. is not masked by MSR[EE]=0) for debugging etc. - Support for Power9 DD2 in the CXL driver. - Improvements to machine check handling so that uncorrectable errors can be reported into the generic memory_failure() machinery. - Some fixes and improvements for VPHN, which is used under PowerVM to notify the Linux partition of topology changes. - Plumbing to enable TM (transactional memory) without suspend on some Power9 processors (PPC_FEATURE2_HTM_NO_SUSPEND). - Support for emulating vector loads form cache-inhibited memory, on some Power9 revisions. - Disable the fast-endian switch "syscall" by default (behind a CONFIG), we believe it has never had any users. - A major rework of the API drivers use when initiating and waiting for long running operations performed by OPAL firmware, and changes to the powernv_flash driver to use the new API. - Several fixes for the handling of FP/VMX/VSX while processes are using transactional memory. - Optimisations of TLB range flushes when using the radix MMU on Power9. - Improvements to the VAS facility used to access coprocessors on Power9, and related improvements to the way the NX crypto driver handles requests. - Implementation of PMEM_API and UACCESS_FLUSHCACHE for 64-bit. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. powerpc/powermac: Convert to hotplug state machine
Install the callbacks via the state machine. I assume here that the powermac has two CPUs and so only one can go up or down at a time. The variable smp_core99_host_open is here to ensure that we do not try to open or close the i2c host twice if something goes wrong and we invoke the prepare or online callback twice due to rollback. treewide: replace obsolete _refok by __ref
There was only one use of __initdata_refok and __exit_refok
__init_refok was used 46 times against 82 for __ref.
Those definitions are obsolete since commit

powerpc: Get rid of ppc_md.init_early()
It is now called right after platform probe, so the probe function can just do the job. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> |

powerpc: Move 32-bit probe() machine to later in the boot process
This converts all the 32-bit platforms to use the expanded device-tree which is a pretty mechanical change. Unlike 64-bit, the 32-bit kernel didn't rely on platform initializations to setup the MMU since it sets it up entirely before probe_machine() so the move has comparatively less consequences though it's a bigger patch. powerpc/64: Move 64-bit probe_machine() to later in the boot process
We no long need the machine type that early, so we can move probe_machine() to after the device-tree has been expanded. This will allow further consolidation. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> |

powerpc/pmac: Remove spurrious machine type test
pmac_declare_of_platform_devices() is already a machine initcall, thus it won't be called on a non-powermac machine. Testing for chrp there is pointless. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> |

powerpc/64: Move MMU backend selection out of platform code
We move it into early_mmu_init() based on firmware features. For PS3, we have to move the setting of these into early_init_devtree(). Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> |

powerpc/pmac: Remove early allocation of the SMU command buffer
The SMU command buffer needs to be allocated below 2G using memblock. In the past, this had to be done very early from the arch code as memblock wasn't available past that point. That is no longer the case though, smu_init() is called from setup_arch() when memblock is still functional these days. So move the allocation to the SMU driver itself.
