3f65ea5b2a sfc: Remove bogus comment about MTU change and RX buffer overrun
RX DMA is limited by the length specified in each descriptor and not
by the MAC.  Over-length frames may get into the RX FIFO regardless of
the MAC settings, due to a hardware bug, but they will be truncated by
the packet DMA engine and reported as such in the completion event.

7153f623ea sfc: Fix reset vs probe/remove/PM races involving efx_nic::state
We try to defer resets while the device is not READY, but we're not
doing this quite correctly.  In particular, changes to efx_nic::state
are documented as serialised by the RTNL lock, but they aren't.

1. We check whether a reset was requested during probe (suggesting
broken hardware) before we allow requested resets to be scheduled.
This leaves a window where a requested reset would be deferred
indefinitely.

2. Although we cancel the reset work item during device removal,
there are still later operations that can cause it to be scheduled
again.  We need to check the state before scheduling it.

3. Since the state can change between scheduling and running of
the work item, we still need to check it there, and we need to
do so *after* acquiring the RTNL lock which serialises state
changes.

4. We must cancel the reset work item during device removal, if the
state could ever have been READY.  This wasn't done in some of the
failure paths from efx_pci_probe().  Move the cancellation to
efx_pci_remove_main().

8b7325b4e2 sfc: Never try to stop and start a NIC that is disabled
efx_change_mtu() and efx_realloc_channels() each stop and start much
of the NIC, even if it has been disabled.  Since efx_start_all() is a
no-op when the NIC is disabled, this is probably harmless in the case
of efx_change_mtu(), but efx_realloc_channels() also reenables
interrupts which could be a bad thing to do.

Change efx_start_all() and efx_start_interrupts() to assert that the
NIC is not disabled, but make efx_stop_interrupts() do nothing if the
NIC is disabled (since it is already stopped), consistent with
efx_stop_all().

Update comments for efx_start_all() and efx_stop_all() to describe
their purpose and preconditions more accurately.

Add a common function to check and log if the NIC is disabled, and use
it in efx_net_open(), efx_change_mtu() and efx_realloc_channels().

f16aeea0e6 sfc: Change state names to be clearer, and comment them
STATE_INIT and STATE_FINI are equivalent and represent incompletely
initialised states; combine them as STATE_UNINIT.

Rename STATE_RUNNING to STATE_READY, to avoid confusion with
netif_running() and IFF_RUNNING.

The comments do not quite match current usage, but this will be
corrected in subsequent fixes.

53cb13c680 sfc: Replace tso_state::full_packet_space with ip_base_len
We only use tso_state::full_packet_space to calculate the IPv4 tot_len
or IPv6 payload_len, not to set tso_state::packet_space.  Replace it
with an ip_base_len field holding the value of tot_len or payload_len
before including the TCP payload, which is much more useful when
constructing the new headers.

f7251a9ce9 sfc: Simplify TSO header buffer allocation
TSO header buffers contain a control structure immediately followed by
the packet headers, and are kept on a free list when not in use.  This
complicates buffer management and tends to result in cache read misses
when we recycle such buffers (particularly if DMA-coherent memory
requires caches to be disabled).

Replace the free list with a simple mapping by descriptor index.  We
know that there is always a payload descriptor between any two
descriptors with TSO header buffers, so we can allocate only one
such buffer for each two descriptors.

While we're at it, use a standard error code for allocation failure,
not -1.

7668ff9c2a sfc: Refactor struct efx_tx_buffer to use a flags field
Add a flags field to struct efx_tx_buffer, replacing the
continuation and map_single booleans.

Since a single descriptor cannot be both a TSO header and the last
descriptor for an skb, unionise efx_tx_buffer::{skb,tsoh} and add
flags for validity of these fields.

Clear all flags in free buffers (whereas previously the continuation
flag would be set).

0c7517e9fa team: don't print warn message on -ESRCH during event send

da3d50ef30 can: sja1000_platform: fix wrong flag IRQF_SHARED for interrupt sharing
The sja1000 platform driver wrongly assumes that a shared IRQ is indicated
with the IRQF_SHARED flag in irq resource flags. This patch changes the
driver to handle the correct flag IORESOURCE_IRQ_SHAREABLE instead.

There are no mainline users of the platform driver which wrongly make use
of IRQF_SHARED.

b32607dd47 mdio: translation of MMD EEE registers to/from ethtool settings
The helper functions which translate IEEE MDIO Manageable Device (MMD)
Energy-Efficient Ethernet (EEE) registers 3.20, 7.60 and 7.61 to and from
the comparable ethtool supported/advertised settings will be needed by
drivers other than those in PHYLIB (e.g. e1000e in a follow-on patch).

In the same fashion as similar translation functions in linux/mii.h, move
these functions from the PHYLIB core to the linux/mdio.h header file so the
code will not have to be duplicated in each driver needing MMD-to-ethtool
(and vice-versa) translations.  The function and some variable names have
been renamed to be more descriptive.

Not tested on the only hardware that currently calls the related functions,
stmmac, because I don't have access to any.  Has been compile tested and
the translations have been tested on a locally modified version of e1000e.

6b923cb718 bonding: support for IPv6 transmit hashing
Currently the "bonding" driver does not support load balancing outgoing
traffic in LACP mode for IPv6 traffic. IPv4 (and TCP or UDP over IPv4)
are currently supported; this patch adds transmit hashing for IPv6 (and
TCP or UDP over IPv6), bringing IPv6 up to par with IPv4 support in the
bonding driver. In addition, bounds checking has been added to all
transmit hashing functions.

The algorithm chosen (xor'ing the bottom three quads of the source and
destination addresses together, then xor'ing each byte of that result into
the bottom byte, finally xor'ing with the last bytes of the MAC addresses)
was selected after testing almost 400,000 unique IPv6 addresses harvested
from server logs. This algorithm had the most even distribution for both
big- and little-endian architectures while still using few instructions. Its
behavior also attempts to closely match that of the IPv4 algorithm.

The IPv6 flow label was intentionally not included in the hash as it appears
to be unset in the vast majority of IPv6 traffic sampled, and the current
algorithm not using the flow label already offers a very even distribution.

Fragmented IPv6 packets are handled the same way as fragmented IPv4 packets,
ie, they are not balanced based on layer 4 information. Additionally,
IPv6 packets with intermediate headers are not balanced based on layer
4 information. In practice these intermediate headers are not common and
this should not cause any problems, and the alternative (a packet-parsing
loop and look-up table) seemed slow and complicated for little gain.

Erroneously the DWMAC_CORE_3_40 was set to 34 instead of 0x34.
This can generate problems when run on old chips because
the driver assumes that there are the extra 16 regs available
for perfect filtering.

This change marks interface as down on reset, otherwise the driver can't
reinitialize itself properly.

Without the change a transient problem turns out to be critical and leads
to inavailability to reset the driver without brcmsmac module unload/load
cycle:

33dd7699ce carl9170: report A-MPDU status

94543a8d4f iwlwifi: fix flow handler debug code
iwl_dbgfs_fh_reg_read() can cause crashes and/or
BUG_ON in slub because the ifdefs are wrong, the
code in iwl_dump_fh() should use DEBUGFS, not
DEBUG to protect the buffer writing code.

Also, while at it, clean up the arguments to the
function, some code and make it generally safer.

3a245cbef6 ath5k: fix wrong max power per rate eeprom reads for 802.11a
This patch reduces the per rate target power eeprom reads for
AR5K_EEPROM_MODE_11A from 10 to 8, as there are only 8 valid
power curve entries on the eeprom. The former 10 reads lead to
equal max power limits per rate and this causes an increasing

The mdio-mux driver scans all child mdio nodes, without regard to whether
the node is actually used.  Some device trees include all possible

5a02cbd10d ixgbe: Roll RSC code into non-EOP code
This change moves the RSC code into the non-EOP descriptor handling
function. The main motivation behind this change is to help reduce the
overhead in the non-RSC case. Previously the non-RSC path code would
always be checking for append count even if RSC had been disabled. Now
this code is completely skipped in a single conditional check instead of

cf3fe7aca0 ixgbe: Copybreak sooner to avoid get_page/put_page and offset change overhead
This change makes it so that if only the first 256 bytes of a buffer are
used we just copy the data out and leave the offset and page count
unchanged. There are multiple advantages to this. First it allows us to
reuse the page much more in the case of pages larger than 4K. It also
allows us to avoid some expensive atomic operations in the form of
get_page/put_page. In perf I have seen CPU utilization for put_page drop
from 3.5% to 1.8% as a result of this patch when doing small packet routing,
and packet rates increased by about 3%.

09816fbea9 ixgbe: Only use double buffering if page size is less than 8K
This change makes it so that we do not use double buffering if the page
size is larger than 4K.  Instead we will simply walk through the page using
up to 3K per receive, and if we receive less than we only move the offset
by that amount.  We will free the page when there is no longer any space
left that we can use instead of checking the page count to see if we can
cycle back to the start.

The main motivation behind this is to avoid the unnecessary truesize cost
for using a half page when most packets are 2K or smaller. With this new
approach the largest possible truesize for a page fragment will be 3K when
PAGE_SIZE is larger than 4K.

afaa9459de ixgbe: Remove code that was initializing Rx page offset
This change reverts an earlier patch that introduced
ixgbe_init_rx_page_offset. The idea behind the function was to provide
some variation in the starting offset for the page in order to reduce
hot-spots in the cache. However it doesn't appear to provide any
significant benefit in the testing I have done. It has however been a
source of several bugs, and it blocks us from being able to use 2K
fragments on larger page sizes. So the decision I made was to remove it.

3de819e6b6 mlx4_core: Fix integer overflow issues around MTT table
Fix some issues around int variables used in data structures related
to memory registration.

Handle int overflow in mlx4_init_icm_table by using a u64 intermediate
variable and changing struct mlx4_icm_table num_obj field to be u32.

Change some more fields/variables to use u32 instead of int to prevent
a case where the variable becomes negative when bit 31 is set.

Also subtract log_mtts_per_seg from the exponent when computing
num_mtt, since its added later on in that very same code area.

This and the previous commit fixes some issues which actually prevent
commit db5a7a65c0 ("mlx4_core: Scale size of MTT table with system
RAM") from working.  Now, when the number of MTTs is scaled with the
size of the RAM we can map up to 8TB.

the required size is beyond the max supported value (or when memory is
too fragmented to handle a huge allocation).  Extend this to use use
vmalloc() if kmalloc() fails, and take that into account when freeing
the bitmaps as well.

This fixes a driver load failure when log num mtt is 26 or higher, and
is a step in the direction of allowing to register huge amounts of
memory on large memory systems.

9b469a60d6 net: qmi_wwan: add Sierra Wireless devices
Add 6 new devices and one modified device, based on
information from laptop vendor Windows drivers.

Sony provides a driver with two new devices using
a Gobi 2k+ layout (1199:68a5 and 1199:68a9).  The
Sony driver also adds a non-standard QMI/net
interface to the already supported 1199:9011
Gobi device. We do not know whether this is an
alternate interface number or an additional
interface which might be present, but that doesn't
really matter.

Lenovo provides a driver supporting 4 new devices:
 - MC7770 (1199:901b) with standard Gobi 2k+ layout
 - MC7700 (0f3d:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710
 - MC7750 (114f:68a2) with layout similar to MC7710
 - EM7700 (1199:901c) with layout similar to MC7710

Note regaring the three devices similar to MC7710:

The Windows drivers only support interface #8 on these
devices.  The MC7710 can support QMI/net functions on
interface #19 and #20 as well, and this driver is
verified to work on interface #19 (a firmware bug is
suspected to prevent #20 from working).

We do not enable these additional interfaces until they
either show up in a Windows driver or are verified to
work in some other way.  Therefore limiting the new
devices to interface #8 for now.

Instead of class/subclass/protocol the vendor use fixed
interface numbers for each function, and the Windows
drivers use these numbers to match driver and function.

The driver has had its own interface number whitelisting
code to simulate this functionality.  Replace this with
generic interface number matching now that the USB subsystem
support is there. This
 - removes the need for a driver_info structure per
   interface number,
 - avoids running the probe function for unsupported
   interfaces, and
 - simplifies the code.

7dd6753f6d ath5k: fix spin_lock_irqsave/spin_lock_bh nesting in mesh
Lockdep found an inconsistent lock state when joining a mesh with
ath5k.  The problem is that ath5k takes the lock for its beacon state,
ah->block, with spin_lock_irqsave(), while mesh internally takes the
sync_offset_lock with spin_lock_bh() in mesh_sync_offset_adjust_tbtt(),
which in turn is called under ah->block.

This could deadlock if the beacon tasklet was run on the processor
that held the beacon lock during the do_softirq() in spin_unlock_bh().

We probably shouldn't hold the lock around the callbacks, but the
easiest fix is to switch to spin_lock_bh for ah->block: it doesn't
need interrupts disabled anyway as the data in question is only accessed
in softirq or process context.

e1352fde56 ath9k: fix decrypt_error initialization in ath_rx_tasklet()
ath_rx_tasklet() calls ath9k_rx_skb_preprocess() and ath9k_rx_skb_postprocess()
in a loop over the received frames. The decrypt_error flag is
initialized to false
just outside ath_rx_tasklet() loop. ath9k_rx_accept(), called by
ath9k_rx_skb_preprocess(),
only sets decrypt_error to true and never to false.
Then ath_rx_tasklet() calls ath9k_rx_skb_postprocess() and passes
decrypt_error to it.
So, after a decryption error, in ath9k_rx_skb_postprocess(), we can
have a leftover value
from another processed frame. In that case, the frame will not be marked with
RX_FLAG_DECRYPTED even if it is decrypted correctly.
When using CCMP encryption this issue can lead to connection stuck
because of CCMP
PN corruption and a waste of CPU time since mac80211 tries to decrypt an already
deciphered frame with ieee80211_aes_ccm_decrypt.
Fix the issue initializing decrypt_error flag at the begging of the
ath_rx_tasklet() loop.
