Jake reported that since commit 1672c0e319
"mac80211: start auth/assoc timeout on frame status", he is unable to
connect to his AP, which is configured to use passive channel.
After switch to passive channel 4965 firmware drops any TX packet until
it receives beacon. Before commit 1672c0e3 we waited on channel and
retransmit packet after 200ms, that makes we receive beacon on the
meantime and association process succeed. New mac80211 behaviour cause
that any ASSOC frame fail immediately on iwl4965 and we can not
associate.
This patch restore old mac80211 behaviour for iwl4965, by removing
IEEE80211_HW_REPORTS_TX_ACK_STATUS feature. This feature will be
added again to iwl4965 driver, when different, more complex
workaround for this firmware issue, will be added to the driver.

The driver and firmware sync up through SYNC messages, and the
firmware's affirmative reply to these SYNC messages appears to be the
"Reset" indication received via the status interrupt endpoint. Thus the
driver needs the status interrupt endpoint always active so that the
Reset indication can be received even if the netdev is closed, which is
the case right after device insertion.
If the Reset indication is not received by the driver, it continues
sending SYNC messages to the firmware, which crashes about 10 seconds
later and the device stops responding.

A sub-driver can call usbnet_status_start() at any time, but

Hold off setting the read-only flag in rbd_add() for an image being
mapped until we have successfully probed the image. At that point
we know whether it's a snapshot mapping or not, so we can set the
read-only flag in that one place rather than doing so (for
snapshots) in rbd_dev_mapping_set(). To do this, pass a flag to the
image probe routine indicating whether we want a read-only mapping.

That function gets called by rbd_dev_device_setup(), which is
called by rbd_add() *after* rbd_dev_image_probe(). If the
image probe succeeds, the rbd device's spec will already have
been updated to include names and ids for all fields.

The presence of the LAYERING bit in an rbd image's feature mask does
not guarantee the image actually has a parent image. Currently that
bit is set only when a clone (i.e., image with a parent) is created,
but it is (currently) not cleared if that clone gets flattened back
into a "normal" image. A "parent_id" query will leave the
parent_spec for the image being mapped a null pointer, but will not
return an error.
Currently, whenever an image with the LAYERED feature gets mapped, a
warning about the use of layered images gets printed. But we don't
want to do this for a flattened image, so print the warning only
if we find there is a parent spec after the probe.

d98df63e rbd: revalidate_disk upon rbd resize
instituted a call to revalidate_disk() to notify interested parties
that a mapped image has changed size. This works well, as long as
the the rbd device doesn't map a snapshot.
A snapshot will never change size. However, the base image the
snapshot is associated with can, and it can do so while the snapshot
is mapped.
The problem is that the test for the size is looking at the size of
the base image, not the size of the mapped snapshot. This patch
corrects that.
Update the warning message shown in the event of error, and move

Cancelling kiocbs requires adding them to a per kioctx linked list,
which is one of the few things we need to take the kioctx lock for in

this lazily, we can avoid quite a bit of locking overhead.
While we're at it, instead of using a flag bit switch to using ki_cancel
itself to indicate that a kiocb has been cancelled/completed. This lets
us get rid of ki_flags entirely.

This removes the only in-tree user of aio retry. This will let us
remove the retry code from the aio core.
Removing retry is relatively easy as the USB gadget wasn't using it to
retry IOs at all. It always fully submitted the IO in the context of
the initial io_submit() call. It only used the AIO retry facility to
get the submitter's mm context for copying the result of a read back to
user space. This is easy to implement with use_mm() and a work struct,
much like kvm does with async_pf_execute() for get_user_pages().

commit v3.9-rc1-53-g6d0cda9 "lguest: cache last cpu we ran on." missed
one case, which causes a triple fault. The guest calls guest_set_pgd()
on the top page, and we carefully remap the Switcher text page. But
we didn't reset last_host_cpu, so map_switcher_in_guest() thinks
the guest's regs and IDT/GDT etc are already mapped.

The support for PB1100, PB1500, and PB1550 got merged into the code for
DB1000 and DB1550 code in v3.7. When that was done the three related
Kconfig symbols were dropped. But not all related Kconfig macros were
removed. Do so now.
Note that the PB1100 code in the Au1100 LCD driver is removed entirely
and not converted to use its current Kconfig macro. That is done because
the macros it uses (PB1100_G_CONTROL, PB1100_G_CONTROL_BL, and
PB1100_G_CONTROL_VDD) are never defined. Actually only one of these was
ever defined (PB1100_G_CONTROL) but that define was removed in v2.6.34.
So, as far as I can tell, this code could have never compiled.

moved final fixups from pci_bus_add_device() to pci_device_add(). But
pci_device_add() happens before resource assignment, so BARs may not be

These continue the multiplatform support for exynos, adding support
for building most of the essential drivers (clocksource, clk, irqchip)
when combined with other platforms. As a result, it should become
really easy to add full multiplatform exynos support in 3.11, although
we don't yet enable it for 3.10.
The changes were not included in the earlier multiplatform series
in order to avoid clashes with the other Exynos updates.
This also includes work from Tomasz Figa to fix the pwm clocksource
code on Exynos, which is not strictly required for multiplatform,
but related to the other patches in this set and needed as a bug
fix for at least one board.

get shared with other architectures (powerpc and arm64), it
was moved to drivers/bus/. We expect other similar drivers to
get moved to the same place in order to avoid creating more

These patches are all for Renesas shmobile, and depend on the earlier
pinctrl updates. Remarkably, this adds support for three new SoCs:
r8a73a4, r8a73a4 and r8a7778. The bulk of the code added for these is
for pinctrl (using the new subsystem) and for clocks (not yet using the
common clock subsystem). The latter will have to get converted in one
of the upcoming releases, but shmobile is not ready for that yet.
The series also contains Renesas shmobile board changes, adding one
board file for each of the three new SoCs. These boards are using a
mix of classic and device-tree based probing, as there is still a lot of
infrastructure in shmobile that has not been converted to DT yet. Once
those are resolved to the degree that no board specific setup code is
needed, they can get folded into the respective SoC setup files.

This reverts commit 03752f5b7b.
This revert requires a bit of explanation on how I understand things
work. Internally the architects/designers decide how the stolen encoding
works. We put it in a doc. BIOS writers take these docs and implement
it. Driver writers read the doc too, and read the value left by the BIOS
writers, and then we make magic.
The failing here is that in the docs we had[1] contained two different
definitions for this register for Gen7. (We have both a PCI register,
and an MMIO, and each of these were different). At the time [2] of
03752f5, we asked the architects what the correct value should be; but
that doesn't match the reality (BIOS) unfortunately.
So on all machines I can get my hands on, this revert is the right thing
to do. I've also worked with the product group to confirm that they
agree this revert is what we should do. People using HW made my "people"
who both write their own BIOS, and have access to our docs (Apple?).
Investigations are still ongoing about whether we need to add a list
of machines needing special handling, but this patch should be the
right thing for pretty much everyone.
[1] The docs are still wrong on this one. Now instead of two registers with
two definitions, we have one register with BOTH definitions, progress?
[2] The open source PRMs have the "wrong" definitions in chapter Volume
1 part6, section 1.1.12.
This digging was inspired by Paulo.

includes a workaround for VT-d to disable interrupt remapping on broken
chipsets. On the AMD-Vi side the most important new feature is a kernel
command-line interface to override broken information in IVRS ACPI
tables and get interrupt remapping working this way. Besides that there
are small fixes all over the place.

This series from Tomasz Figa restores support for the pwm clocksource
in Exynos, which was broken during the conversion of the platform
to the common clk framework. The clocksource is only used in one

work for DT based probing as well as restoring the non-DT based

This patch fixes partly PAGE_SIZEs of 16K or 64K by adjusting the
assembler PTE lookup code and the assembler TEMPALIAS code. Furthermore
some data alignments for PAGE_SIZE have been limited to 4K (or less) to
not waste too much memory with greater page sizes. As a side note, the
palo loader can (currently) only handle up to 10 ELF segments which is
fixed with tighter aligning as well.
My testings indicated that the ldci command in the sba iommu coding
needed adjustment by the PAGE_SHIFT value and that the I/O PDIR Page
size was only set to 4K for my machine (C3000).
All this fixes partly the boot, but there are still quite some caching
problems left. Examples are e.g. the symbios logic driver which is
failing:
sym0: <896> rev 0x7 at pci 0000:00:0f.0 irq 69
sym0: PA-RISC Firmware, ID 7, Fast-40, SE, parity checking
CACHE TEST FAILED: DMA error (dstat=0x81).sym0: CACHE INCORRECTLY CONFIGURED.
and the tulip network driver which doesn't seem to work correctly
either:
Sending BOOTP requests .net eth0: Setting full-duplex based on MII#1
link partner capability of 05e1
..... timed out!
Beside those kernel fixes glibc will need fixes too to be able to handle
>4K page sizes.

When unloading the driver that drives an EISA board, a message similar to the
following one is displayed:
Trying to free nonexistent resource <0000000000013000-000000000001301f>
Then an user is unable to reload the driver because the resource it requested in
the previous load hasn't been freed. This happens most probably due to a typo in
vortex_eisa_remove() which calls release_region() with 'dev->base_addr' instead
of 'edev->base_addr'...

Some ancient pHyp versions used to create a 8 bytes local-mac-address
property in the device-tree instead of a 6 bytes one for veth.
The Linux driver code to deal with that is an insane hack which also
happens to break with some choices of MAC addresses in qemu by testing
for a bit in the address rather than just looking at the size of the
property.
Sanitize this by doing the latter instead.

This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one
reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged
through the arm-soc tree. There are both new drivers as well as
existing drivers that are getting converted from platform-specific
code into standalone drivers using the appropriate subsystem
specific interfaces.
In particular, we can now have pinctrl, clk, clksource and irqchip
drivers in one file per driver, without the need to call into
platform specific interface, or to get called from platform specific
code, as long as all information about the hardware is provided
through a device tree.
Most of the drivers we touch this time are for clocksource. Since
now most of them are part of drivers/clocksource, I expect that we
won't have to touch these again from arm-soc and can let the
clocksource maintainers take care of these in the future.
Another larger part of this series is specific to the exynos platform,
which is seeing some significant effort in upstreaming and
modernization of its device drivers this time around, which
unfortunately is also the cause for the churn and a lot of the
merge conflicts.
There is one new subsystem that gets merged as part of this series:
the reset controller interface, which is a very simple interface
for taking devices on the SoC out of reset or back into reset.
Patches to use this interface on i.MX follow later in this merge
window, and we are going to have other platforms (at least tegra
and sirf) get converted in 3.11. This will let us get rid of
platform specific callbacks in a number of platform independent
device drivers.

Basically it's the same as the original DS75 but much faster.

Most LM75-compatible chips can either sample much faster or with a
much better resolution than the original LM75 chip. So far the lm75
driver did not let the user take benefit of these improvements. Do it
now.
I decided to almost always configure the chip to use the best
resolution possible, which also means the longest sample time. The
only chips for which I didn't are the DS75, DS1775 and STDS75, because
they are really too slow in 12-bit mode (1.2 to 1.5 second worst case)
so I went for 11-bit mode as a more reasonable tradeoff. This choice is
dictated by the fact that the hwmon subsystem is meant for system
monitoring, it has never been supposed to be ultra-fast, and as a
matter of fact we do cache the sampled values in almost all drivers.
If anyone isn't pleased with these default settings, they can always
introduce a platform data structure or DT support for the lm75. That
being said, it seems nobody ever complained that the driver wouldn't
refresh the value faster than every 1.5 second, and the change made
it faster for all chips even in 12-bit mode, so I don't expect any
complaint.
Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>
Acked-by: Guenter Roeck <linux@roeck-us.net>
Prepare the lm75 driver to support per-chip resolution and sample
time. For now we only make the code generic enough to support it, but
we still use the same, unchanged resolution (9-bit) and sample time
(1.5 s) for all chips.
Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>
Acked-by: Guenter Roeck <linux@roeck-us.net>
There is no standard for the configuration register bits of LM75-like
chips. We shouldn't blindly clear bits setting the resolution as they
are either unused or used for something else on some of the supported
chips.
So, switch to per-chip configuration initialization. This will allow
for better tuning later, for example using more resolution bits when
available.

According to BSpec the link training sequence for eDP on HSW port-A
should be as follows:
1. link training: clock recovery
2. link training: equalization
3. link training: set idle transmission mode
4. display pipe enable
5. link training: disable (set normal mode)
Contrary to this at the moment we don't do step 3. and we do step 5.
before step 4. Fix this by setting idle transmission mode for eDP at
the end of intel_dp_complete_link_train and adding a new
intel_dp_stop_link_training function to disable link training. With
these changes we'll end up with the following functions corresponding
to the above steps:
intel_dp_start_link_train -> step 1.
intel_dp_complete_link_train -> step 2., step 3.
intel_dp_stop_link_train -> step 5.
For port-A we'll call intel_dp_stop_link_train only after enabling the
pipe, for everything else we'll call it right after
intel_dp_complete_link_train to preserve the current behavior.
Tested on HSW/HSW-ULT.
In v2:
- Due to a HW issue we must set idle transmission mode for port-A too
before enabling the pipe. Thanks for Arthur Runyan for explaining
this.
- Update the patch subject to make it clear that it's an eDP fix, DP is
not affected.
v3:

This reverts commit 57c2196332.
It's an ugly hack for a Haswell SDV platform where the vbt doesn't
seem to fully agree with the panel. Since it seems to cause issues on
real eDP platform let's just kill this hack again.

Since commit 636f9d371f ("cxgb4: Add
support for T4 configuration file"), t4_fw_hello may return a positive
value instead of 0 for success. The recovery code tests only for zero
and fails recovery for any other value.
This fix tests for negative error values and fails only on those cases.
Error recovery after an error injection works after this change.

After recent 86a9bad3 (net: vlan: add protocol argument to packet
tagging functions) my sky2 started to crash on receive of tagged
frames, with backtrace similar to
#CRASH!!!
vlan_do_receive
__netif_receive_skb_core
__netif_receive_skb
netif_receive_skb
sky2_poll
...
__net_rx_action
__do_softirq
The problem turned out to be:
1) sky2 copies small packets from ring on RX, and in its
receive_copy() skb header is copied manually field, by field, and
only for some fields;
2) 86a9bad3 added skb->vlan_proto, which vlan_untag() or
__vlan_hwaccel_put_tag() set, and which is later used in
vlan_do_receive().
That patch updated copy_skb_header() for newly introduced
skb->vlan_proto, but overlooked the need to also copy it in sky2's
receive_copy().
Because of 2, we have the following scenario:
- frame is received and tagged in a ring, by sky2_rx_tag(). Both
skb->vlan_proto and skb->vlan_tci are set;
- later skb is decided to be copied, but skb->vlan_proto is
forgotten and becomes 0.
- in the beginning of vlan_do_receive() we call
__be16 vlan_proto = skb->vlan_proto;
vlan_dev = vlan_find_dev(skb->dev, vlan_proto, vlan_id);
which eventually invokes
vlan_proto_idx(vlan_proto)
and that routine BUGs for everything except ETH_P_8021Q and
ETH_P_8021AD.
Oops.
Fix it.
P.S.
Stephen, I wonder, why copy_skb_header() is not used in
sky2.c::receive_copy() ? Problems, where receive_copy was updated field
by field showed several times already, e.g.
3f42941b (sky2: propogate rx hash when packet is copied)
e072b3fa (sky2: fix receive length error in mixed non-VLAN/VLAN traffic)

There is bug in the receive path of the asix driver at the time a
packet is received larger than MTU size and DF bit set:
BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 0000004000000001
IP: [<ffffffff8126f65b>] skb_release_head_state+0x2d/0xd2
...
Call Trace:
<IRQ>
[<ffffffff8126f86d>] ? skb_release_all+0x9/0x1e
[<ffffffff8126f8ad>] ? __kfree_skb+0x9/0x6f

[<ffffffffa00fb3dc>] ? usbnet_bh+0x4f/0x226 [usbnet]
...
It is easily reproducable by setting an MTU of 512 e. g. and sending
something like
ping -s 1472 -c 1 -M do $SELF
from another box.
And this is because the rx->ax_skb is freed on error, but rx->ax_skb
is not reset, and the size is not reset to zero in this case.
And since the skb is added again to the usbnet->done skb queue it is
accessing already freed memory, resulting in the BUG when freeing a
2nd time. I therefore think the value 0x0000004000000001 show in the
trace is more or less random data.

If no keycache slots are available, ath_key_config can return -ENOSPC.
If the key index is not checked for errors, it can lead to logspam that
looks like this: "ath: wiphy0: keyreset: keycache entry 228 out of range"
This can cause follow-up errors if the invalid keycache index gets

Some arrays synchronize their full non volatile cache when the sd driver sends
a SYNCHRONIZE CACHE command. Unfortunately, they can have Terrabytes of this
and we send a SYNCHRONIZE CACHE for every barrier if an array reports it has a
writeback cache. This leads to massive slowdowns on journalled filesystems.
The fix is to allow userspace to turn off the writeback cache setting as a
temporary measure (i.e. without doing the MODE SELECT to write it back to the
device), so even though the device reported it has a writeback cache, the
user, knowing that the cache is non volatile and all they care about is
filesystem correctness, can turn that bit off in the kernel and avoid the
performance ruinous (and safety irrelevant) SYNCHRONIZE CACHE commands.
The way you do this is add a 'temporary' prefix when performing the usual
cache setting operations, so
echo temporary write through > /sys/class/scsi_disk/<disk>/cache_type

provisioning map (map_storep) is a bitmap accessed by bitops.
So the allocation size should be a multiple of sizeof(unsigned long) and
also the bitmap should be cleared by using bitmap_clear() instead of
memset().
Otherwise it will cause problem on big-endian architecture if the number of
bits is not a multiple of BITS_PER_LONG.
I tried testing the logical block provisioning support in scsi_debug,
but it didn't work as I expected.
For example, load scsi_debug module with UNMAP command supported
and fill the storage with random data.
# modprobe scsi_debug lbpu=1
# dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sdb
Then, try to unmap LBA 0, but Get LBA status reports:
# sg_unmap --lba=0 --num=1 /dev/sdb
# sg_get_lba_status --lba=0 /dev/sdb
descriptor LBA: 0x0000000000000000 blocks: 16384 mapped
This is unexpected result. Because UNMAP command to LBA 0 finished
without any errors, but Get LBA status shows that LBA 0 is still mapped.
This problem is due to the wrong translation between LBA and index of
provisioning map. Fix it by using correct translation functions.

The function unmap_region() clears memory region specified as the logical
block address and the number of logical blocks in ramdisk storage
(fake_storep) if lbpu and lbprz module parameters are enabled.
In the while loop of unmap_region(), it advances optimal unmap granularity
in logical blocks. But it only clears one logical block at LBA 'block' per
loop iteration. And furthermore, the 'block' is not pointing to a logical
block address which should be cleared, it is a index of probisioning map
(map_storep).

scsi_debug prohibits setting scsi_debug_unmap_alignment to be greater
than scsi_debug_unmap_granularity. But setting them to be the same value
is not prohibited. In this case, the only difference with
scsi_debug_unmap_alignment == 0 is the logical blocks from 0 to
scsi_debug_unmap_alignment - 1 cannot be unmapped. But the difference is
not properly handled in the current code.
So this prohibits such unusual setting.

If the logical block provisioning is not enabled, map_region() and
unmap_region() have no effect and they don't need to be called.
So this makes map_region() and unmap_region() to be called only
when scsi_debug_lbp() returns true, i.e. logical block provisioning is
enabled.
While I'm at it, this also removes meaningless non-zero check for
scsi_debug_unmap_granularity.
Because scsi_debug_unmap_granularity cannot be zero with usual setting:
scsi_debug_unmap_granularity is 1 by default, and it can be changed to
zero with explicit module parameter setting only when the logical block
provisioning is disabled. But it is only meaningful module parameter
when the logical block provisioning is enabled.

- an arbitration driver. While the driver is quite simple, it caused
discussion if we need additional arbitration on top of the one
specified in the I2C standard. Conclusion is that I accept a few
generic mechanisms, but not very specific ones.
- the core lost the detach_adapter() call. It has no users anymore and
was in the way for other cleanups. attach_adapter() is sadly still
there since there are users waiting to be converted.
- the core gained a bus recovery infrastructure. I2C defines a way to
recover if the data line is stalled. This mechanism is now in the
core and drivers can now pass some data to make use of it.

In CPSW NAPI, after processing all interrupts IRQ is enabled and then book
keeping irq_enabled is updated. In random cases when a packet is transmitted
or received between processing packets and IRQ enabled, then just after
enabled IRQ and before irq_enabled is updated, ISR is called so IRQs are
not disabled as irq_enabled is still false and CPU gets locked in CPSW ISR.
By changing the sequence as update the irq_enabled and then enable IRQ
fixes the issue. This issue is not captured always as it is a timing issue
whether Tx or Rx IRQ is invoked between packet processing and enable IRQ.

This patch only changes some names to avoid confusion.
In this patch we have:
MAX_SKB_SLOTS_DEFAULT -> FATAL_SKB_SLOTS_DEFAULT
max_skb_slots -> fatal_skb_slots
#define XEN_NETBK_LEGACY_SLOTS_MAX XEN_NETIF_NR_SLOTS_MIN
The fatal_skb_slots is the threshold to determine whether a packet is
malicious.
XEN_NETBK_LEGACY_SLOTS_MAX is the maximum slots a valid packet can have at
this point. It is defined to be XEN_NETIF_NR_SLOTS_MIN because that's
guaranteed to be supported by all backends.

The Tilera hypervisor shipped in releases up through MDE 4.1 launches
the client operating system (i.e. Linux) at privilege level 1 (PL1).
Starting with MDE 4.2, as part of the work to enable KVM, the
Tilera hypervisor launches Linux at PL2 instead.
This commit makes the KERNEL_PL option default to 2 for tilegx, while
still saying at 1 for tilepro, which doesn't have an updated hypervisor.
It also explains how and when you might want to choose another value.
In addition, we change a small buglet in the on-chip Ethernet driver,
where we were failing to use the KERNEL_PL constant in an API call.
To make the transition cleaner, this change also provides the updated
hv_init() API for the new hypervisor that supports announcing Linux's
compiled-in PL, so the hypervisor can generate a suitable error in the
case of a mismatched hypervisor and Linux binary.
