cf124db566 net: Fix inconsistent teardown and release of private netdev state.
Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using
netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources
can occur in one of two different places.

Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor().

The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon
whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it
is safe to perform the freeing.

netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the
NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast
address lists are flushed.

netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the
netdev references all go away.

Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor()
almost universally does also a free_netdev().

This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice().
Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing
of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice()
fails.

If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside
of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But
it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor().

This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and
then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same.

However, this means that the resources that would normally be released
by netdev->destructor() will not be.

Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by
invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice()
fails.

Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks.

Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what
private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether
the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev().

netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private
resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for
free_netdev().

netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether
free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice().

Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after
ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit()
and netdev->priv_destructor().

And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke
netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev().

b20e2d5478 tun: fix premature POLLOUT notification on tun devices
aszlig observed failing ssh tunnels (-w) during initialization since
commit cc9da6cc4f ("ipv6: addrconf: use stable address generator for
ARPHRD_NONE"). We already had reports that the mentioned commit breaks
Juniper VPN connections. I can't clearly say that the Juniper VPN client
has the same problem, but it is worth a try to hint to this patch.

Because of the early generation of link local addresses, the kernel now
can start asking for routers on the local subnet much earlier than usual.
Those router solicitation packets arrive inside the ssh channels and
should be transmitted to the tun fd before the configuration scripts
might have upped the interface and made it ready for transmission.

ssh polls on the interface and receives back a POLL_OUT. It tries to send
the earily router solicitation packet to the tun interface. Unfortunately
it hasn't been up'ed yet by config scripts, thus failing with -EIO. ssh
doesn't retry again and considers the tun interface broken forever.

5503fcecd4 tun: rx batching
We can only process 1 packet at one time during sendmsg(). This often
lead bad cache utilization under heavy load. So this patch tries to do
some batching during rx before submitting them to host network
stack. This is done through accepting MSG_MORE as a hint from
sendmsg() caller, if it was set, batch the packet temporarily in a
linked list and submit them all once MSG_MORE were cleared.

Tests were done by pktgen (burst=128) in guest over mlx4(noqueue) on host:

                                 Mpps -+%
    rx-frames = 0 0.91 +0%
    rx-frames = 4 1.00 +9.8%
    rx-frames = 8 1.00 +9.8%
    rx-frames = 16 1.01 +10.9%
    rx-frames = 32 1.07 +17.5%
    rx-frames = 48 1.07 +17.5%
    rx-frames = 64 1.08 +18.6%
    rx-frames = 64 (no MSG_MORE) 0.91 +0%

User were allowed to change per device batched packets through
ethtool -C rx-frames. NAPI_POLL_WEIGHT were used as upper limitation
to prevent bh from being disabled too long.

d4aea20d88 tun: Use netif_receive_skb instead of netif_rx
This patch changes tun.c to call netif_receive_skb instead of netif_rx
when a packet is received (if CONFIG_4KSTACKS is not enabled to avoid
stack exhaustion). The difference between the two is that netif_rx queues
the packet into the backlog, and netif_receive_skb proccesses the packet
in the current context.

This patch is required for syzkaller [1] to collect coverage from packet
receive paths, when a packet being received through tun (syzkaller collects
coverage per process in the process context).

As mentioned by Eric this change also speeds up tun/tap. As measured by
Peter it speeds up his closed-loop single-stream tap/OVS benchmark by
about 23%, from 700k packets/second to 867k packets/second.

A similar patch was introduced back in 2010 [2, 3], but the author found
out that the patch doesn't help with the task he had in mind (for cgroups
to shape network traffic based on the original process) and decided not to
go further with it. The main concern back then was about possible stack
exhaustion with 4K stacks.

2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support

3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
   and reorganized in 'net-next'.

4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
   tc_skip_sw().

5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
   unrelated changes in 'net-next'.

6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do

7b996243fa tun: fix transmit timestamp support
Instead of using sock_tx_timestamp, use skb_tx_timestamp to record
software transmit timestamp of a packet.

sock_tx_timestamp resets and overrides the tx_flags of the skb.
The function is intended to be called from within the protocol
layer when creating the skb, not from a device driver. This is
inconsistent with other drivers and will cause issues for TCP.

In TCP, we intend to sample the timestamps for the last byte
for each sendmsg/sendpage. For that reason, tcp_sendmsg calls
tcp_tx_timestamp only with the last skb that it generates.
For example, if a 128KB message is split into two 64KB packets
we want to sample the SND timestamp of the last packet. The current
code in the tun driver, however, will result in sampling the SND
timestamp for both packets.

Also, when the last packet is split into smaller packets for
retranmission (see tcp_fragment), the tun driver will record
timestamps for all of the retransmitted packets and not only the
last packet.

1576d98605 tun: switch to use skb array for tx
We used to queue tx packets in sk_receive_queue, this is less
efficient since it requires spinlocks to synchronize between producer
and consumer.

This patch tries to address this by:

- switch from sk_receive_queue to a skb_array, and resize it when
  tx_queue_len was changed.
- introduce a new proto_ops peek_len which was used for peeking the
  skb length.
- implement a tun version of peek_len for vhost_net to use and convert
vhost_net to use peek_len if possible.

Pktgen test shows about 15.3% improvement on guest receiving pps for small

df10db98ab tun: fix csum generation for tap devices
The commit 3416609363 ("tuntap: use common code for virtio_net_hdr

with the generic helpers. While doing so, it implictly moved the
skb_partial_csum_set() invocation after eth_type_trans(), which
invalidate the current gso start/offset values.
Fix it by moving the helper invocation before the mac pulling.

addf8fc4ac tuntap: correctly wake up process during uninit
We used to check dev->reg_state against NETREG_REGISTERED after each
time we are woke up. But after commit 9e641bdcfa ("net-tun:
restructure tun_do_read for better sleep/wakeup efficiency"), it uses
skb_recv_datagram() which does not check dev->reg_state. This will
result if we delete a tun/tap device after a process is blocked in the
reading. The device will wait for the reference count which was held
by that process for ever.

Fixes this by using RCV_SHUTDOWN which will be checked during
sk_recv_datagram() before trying to wake up the process during uninit.

2a2bbf1700 tun: don't require serialization lock on tx
The current tun_net_xmit() implementation don't need any external
lock since it relies on rcu protection for the tun data structure

This patch set the NETIF_F_LLTX feature bit in the tun device, so
that on xmit, in absence of qdisc, no serialization lock is acquired

c14ac9451c sock: enable timestamping using control messages
Currently, SOL_TIMESTAMPING can only be enabled using setsockopt.
This is very costly when users want to sample writes to gather
tx timestamps.

Add support for enabling SO_TIMESTAMPING via control messages by
using tsflags added in `struct sockcm_cookie` (added in the previous
patches in this series) to set the tx_flags of the last skb created in
a sendmsg. With this patch, the timestamp recording bits in tx_flags
of the skbuff is overridden if SO_TIMESTAMPING is passed in a cmsg.

Please note that this is only effective for overriding the recording
timestamps flags. Users should enable timestamp reporting (e.g.,
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_SOFTWARE | SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID) using
socket options and then should ask for SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_*
using control messages per sendmsg to sample timestamps for each
write.

Same can be triggered with PROVE_RCU (+ PROVE_RCU_REPEATEDLY) enabled
from tun_attach_filter() when user space calls ioctl(tun_fd, TUN{ATTACH,
DETACH}FILTER, ...) for adding/removing a BPF filter on tap devices.

Since the fix in f91ff5b9ff ("net: sk_{detach|attach}_filter() rcu
fixes") sk_attach_filter()/sk_detach_filter() now dereferences the
filter with rcu_dereference_protected(), checking whether socket lock
is held in control path.

Since its introduction in 9940516259 ("tun: socket filter support"),
tap filters are managed under RTNL lock from __tun_chr_ioctl(). Thus the
sock_owned_by_user(sk) doesn't apply in this specific case and therefore
triggers the false positive.

Extend the BPF API with __sk_attach_filter()/__sk_detach_filter() pair
that is used by tap filters and pass in lockdep_rtnl_is_held() for the
rcu_dereference_protected() checks instead.

eaea34b23c net/tun: implement ndo_set_rx_headroom
ndo_set_rx_headroom controls the align value used by tun devices to

When the xmit device adds a large encapsulation, this avoids an skb

The measured improvement when forwarding towards a vxlan dev with
frame size below the egress device MTU is as follow:

vxlan over ipv6, bridged: +6%
vxlan over ipv6, ovs: +7%

In case of ipv4 tunnels there is no improvement, since the tun

9cd3e072b0 net: rename SOCK_ASYNC_NOSPACE and SOCK_ASYNC_WAITDATA
This patch is a cleanup to make following patch easier to
review.

Goal is to move SOCK_ASYNC_NOSPACE and SOCK_ASYNC_WAITDATA
from (struct socket)->flags to a (struct socket_wq)->flags
to benefit from RCU protection in sock_wake_async()

To ease backports, we rename both constants.

Two new helpers, sk_set_bit(int nr, struct sock *sk)
and sk_clear_bit(int net, struct sock *sk) are added so that
following patch can change their implementation.

The motivation for this is support for legacy BE guests on the new LE
hosts. There are two redeeming properties that made me merge this:

   - It's a trivial amount of code: since we wrap host/guest accesses
anyway, almost all of it is well hidden from drivers.

   - Sane platforms would never set flags like VHOST_CROSS_ENDIAN_LEGACY,
and when it's clear, there's zero overhead (as some point it was
tested by compiling with and without the patches, got the same
     stripped binary).

Maybe we could create a Kconfig symbol to enforce the second point:
prevent people from enabling it eg on x86. I will look into this"

8b8e658b16 macvtap/tun: cross-endian support for little-endian hosts
The VNET_LE flag was introduced to fix accesses to virtio 1.0 headers
that are always little-endian. It can also be used to handle the special
case of a legacy little-endian device implemented by a big-endian host.

Let's add a flag and ioctls for big-endian devices as well. If both flags
are set, little-endian wins.

Since this is isn't a common usecase, the feature is controlled by a kernel
config option (not set by default).

Both macvtap and tun are covered by this patch since they share the same
API with userland.

7d82410950 virtio: add explicit big-endian support to memory accessors
The current memory accessors logic is:
- little endian if little_endian
- native endian (i.e. no byteswap) if !little_endian

If we want to fully support cross-endian vhost, we also need to be
able to convert to big endian.

Instead of changing the little_endian argument to some 3-value enum, this
patch changes the logic to:
- little endian if little_endian
- big endian if !little_endian

The native endian case is handled by all users with a trivial helper. This
patch doesn't change any functionality, nor it does add overhead.

140e807da1 tun: Utilize the normal socket network namespace refcounting.
There is no need for tun to do the weird network namespace refcounting.
The existing network namespace refcounting in tfile has almost exactly
the same lifetime. So rewrite the code to use the struct sock network
namespace refcounting and remove the unnecessary hand rolled network
namespace refcounting and the unncesary tfile->net.

This change allows the tun code to directly call sock_put bypassing
sock_release and making SOCK_EXTERNALLY_ALLOCATED unnecessary.

Remove the now unncessary tun_release so that if anything tries to use
the sock_release code path the kernel will oops, and let us know about
the bug.

The macvtap code already uses it's internal socket this way.

567e4b7973 net: rfs: add hash collision detection
Receive Flow Steering is a nice solution but suffers from
hash collisions when a mix of connected and unconnected traffic
is received on the host, when flow hash table is populated.

Also, clearing flow in inet_release() makes RFS not very good
for short lived flows, as many packets can follow close().
(FIN , ACK packets, ...)

This patch extends the information stored into global hash table
to not only include cpu number, but upper part of the hash value.

I use a 32bit value, and dynamically split it in two parts.

For host with less than 64 possible cpus, this gives 6 bits for the
cpu number, and 26 (32-6) bits for the upper part of the hash.

Since hash bucket selection use low order bits of the hash, we have
a full hash match, if /proc/sys/net/core/rps_sock_flow_entries is big
enough.

If the hash found in flow table does not match, we fallback to RPS (if
it is enabled for the rxqueue).

This means that a packet for an non connected flow can avoid the
IPI through a unrelated/victim CPU.

This also means we no longer have to clear the table at socket
close time, and this helps short lived flows performance.

Conflicts:
	drivers/net/vxlan.c
	drivers/vhost/net.c
	include/linux/if_vlan.h
	net/core/dev.c

The net/core/dev.c conflict was the overlap of one commit marking an
existing function static whilst another was adding a new function.

In the include/linux/if_vlan.h case, the type used for a local
variable was changed in 'net', whereas the function got rewritten
to fix a stacked vlan bug in 'net-next'.

In drivers/vhost/net.c, Al Viro's iov_iter conversions in 'net-next'
overlapped with an endainness fix for VHOST 1.0 in 'net'.

In drivers/net/vxlan.c, vxlan_find_vni() added a 'flags' parameter

3d0ad09412 drivers/net: Disable UFO through virtio
IPv6 does not allow fragmentation by routers, so there is no
fragmentation ID in the fixed header. UFO for IPv6 requires the ID to
be passed separately, but there is no provision for this in the virtio
net protocol.

Until recently our software implementation of UFO/IPv6 generated a new
ID, but this was a bug. Now we will use ID=0 for any UFO/IPv6 packet
passed through a tap, which is even worse.

Unfortunately there is no distinction between UFO/IPv4 and v6
features, so disable UFO on taps and virtio_net completely until we
have a proper solution.

We cannot depend on VM managers respecting the tap feature flags, so
keep accepting UFO packets but log a warning the first time we do
this.

9e641bdcfa net-tun: restructure tun_do_read for better sleep/wakeup efficiency
tun_do_read always adds current thread to wait queue, even if a packet
is ready to read. This is inefficient because both sleeper and waker
want to acquire the wait queue spin lock when packet rate is high.

We restructure the read function and use common kernel networking
routines to handle receive, sleep and wakeup. With the change
available packets are checked first before the reading thread is added
to the wait queue.

Ran performance tests with the following configuration:

 - my packet generator -> tap1 -> br0 -> tap0 -> my packet consumer
 - sender pinned to one core and receiver pinned to another core
 - sender send small UDP packets (64 bytes total) as fast as it can
 - sandy bridge cores
 - throughput are receiver side goodput numbers

The results are

baseline: 731k pkts/sec, cpu utilization at 1.50 cpus
changed: 783k pkts/sec, cpu utilization at 1.53 cpus

The performance difference is largely determined by packet rate and
inter-cpu communication cost. For example, if the sender and
receiver are pinned to different cpu sockets, the results are

baseline: 558k pkts/sec, cpu utilization at 1.71 cpus
changed: 690k pkts/sec, cpu utilization at 1.67 cpus

99932d4fc0 netdevice: add queue selection fallback handler for ndo_select_queue
Add a new argument for ndo_select_queue() callback that passes a
fallback handler. This gets invoked through netdev_pick_tx();
fallback handler is currently __netdev_pick_tx() as most drivers
invoke this function within their customized implementation in
case for skbs that don't need any special handling. This fallback
handler can then be replaced on other call-sites with different
queue selection methods (e.g. in packet sockets, pktgen etc).

This also has the nice side-effect that __netdev_pick_tx() is
then only invoked from netdev_pick_tx() and export of that
function to modules can be undone.

93e14b6d77 tun: add device name(iff) field to proc fdinfo entry
A file descriptor opened for /dev/net/tun and a tun device are

important for trouble shooting, no way is given to a user to know
the connected device for a given file descriptor at userland.

This patch adds a new fdinfo field for the device name connected to
a file descriptor opened for /dev/net/tun.

Here is an example of the field:

    # lsof | grep tun
    qemu-syst 4565 qemu 25u CHR 10,200 0t138 12921 /dev/net/tun

fa35864e0b tuntap: Fix for a race in accessing numqueues
A patch for fixing a race between queue selection and changing queues
was introduced in commit 92bb73ea2("tuntap: fix a possible race between
queue selection and changing queues").

The fix was to prevent the driver from re-reading the tun->numqueues
more than once within tun_select_queue() using ACCESS_ONCE().

We have been experiancing 'Divide-by-zero' errors in tun_net_xmit()
since we moved from 3.6 to 3.10, and believe that they come from a
simular source where the value of tun->numqueues changes to zero
between the first and a subsequent read of tun->numqueues.

The fix is a simular use of ACCESS_ONCE(), as well as a multiply
instead of a divide in the if statement.

f663dd9aaf net: core: explicitly select a txq before doing l2 forwarding
Currently, the tx queue were selected implicitly in ndo_dfwd_start_xmit(). The
will cause several issues:

- NETIF_F_LLTX were removed for macvlan, so txq lock were done for macvlan
instead of lower device which misses the necessary txq synchronization for
lower device such as txq stopping or frozen required by dev watchdog or
  control path.
- dev_hard_start_xmit() was called with NULL txq which bypasses the net device
  watchdog.
- dev_hard_start_xmit() does not check txq everywhere which will lead a crash
when tso is disabled for lower device.

Fix this by explicitly introducing a new param for .ndo_select_queue() for just
selecting queues in the case of l2 forwarding offload. netdev_pick_tx() was also
extended to accept this parameter and dev_queue_xmit_accel() was used to do l2
forwarding transmission.

With this fixes, NETIF_F_LLTX could be preserved for macvlan and there's no need
to check txq against NULL in dev_hard_start_xmit(). Also there's no need to keep
a dedicated ndo_dfwd_start_xmit() and we can just reuse the code of
dev_queue_xmit() to do the transmission.

In the future, it was also required for macvtap l2 forwarding support since it
provides a necessary synchronization method.

96f8d9ecf2 tuntap: limit head length of skb allocated
We currently use hdr_len as a hint of head length which is advertised by
guest. But when guest advertise a very big value, it can lead to an 64K+

effect of zerocopy or even disable if a gso skb is linearized in guest.

To solves those issues, this patch introduces an upper limit (PAGE_SIZE) of the

(tun: Support software transmit time stamping) will queue skbs into error queue
when tx stamping is enabled. But it forgets to purge the error queue during
detach. This patch fixes this.

76975e9cb4 tun: Get skfilter layout
The only thing we may have from tun device is the fprog, whic contains
the number of filter elements and a pointer to (user-space) memory

849c9b6f93 tun: Allow to skip filter on attach
There's a small problem with sk-filters on tun devices. Consider
an application doing this sequence of steps:

fd = open("/dev/net/tun");
ioctl(fd, TUNSETIFF, { .ifr_name = "tun0" });
ioctl(fd, TUNATTACHFILTER, &my_filter);
ioctl(fd, TUNSETPERSIST, 1);
close(fd);

At that point the tun0 will remain in the system and will keep in
mind that there should be a socket filter at address '&my_filter'.

If after that we do

fd = open("/dev/net/tun");
ioctl(fd, TUNSETIFF, { .ifr_name = "tun0" });

we most likely receive the -EFAULT error, since tun_attach() would
try to connect the filter back. But (!) if we provide a filter at
address &my_filter, then tun0 will be created and the "new" filter
would be attached, but application may not know about that.

This may create certain problems to anyone using tun-s, but it's
critical problem for c/r -- if we meet a persistent tun device
with a filter in mind, we will not be able to attach to it to dump
its state (flags, owner, address, vnethdr size, etc.).

The proposal is to allow to attach to tun device (with TUNSETIFF)
w/o attaching the filter to the tun-file's socket. After this
attach app may e.g clean the device by dropping the filter, it
doesn't want to have one, or (in case of c/r) get information
about the device with tun ioctls.

fb7589a162 tun: Add ability to create tun device with given index
Tun devices cannot be created with ifidex user wants, but it's
required by checkpoint-restore project.

Long time ago such ability was implemented for rtnl_ops-based
interface for creating links (9c7dafbf net: Allow to create links
with given ifindex), but the only API for creating and managing
tuntap devices is ioctl-based and is evolving with adding new ones
(cde8b15f tuntap: add ioctl to attach or detach a file form tuntap
device).

Following that trend, here's how a new ioctl that sets the ifindex
for device, that _will_ be created by TUNSETIFF ioctl looks like.
So those who want a tuntap device with the ifindex N, should open
the tun device, call ioctl(fd, TUNSETIFINDEX, &N), then call TUNSETIFF.
If the index N is busy, then the register_netdev will find this out
and the ioctl would be failed with -EBUSY.

If setifindex is not called, then it will be generated as before.

28d6427109 net: attempt high order allocations in sock_alloc_send_pskb()
Adding paged frags skbs to af_unix sockets introduced a performance
regression on large sends because of additional page allocations, even
if each skb could carry at least 100% more payload than before.

We can instruct sock_alloc_send_pskb() to attempt high order

Most of the time, it does a single page allocation instead of 8.

I added an additional parameter to sock_alloc_send_pskb() to
let other users to opt-in for this new feature on followup patches.

6680ec68ef tuntap: hardware vlan tx support
Inspired by commit f09e2249c4 (macvtap: restore
vlan header on user read). This patch adds hardware vlan tx support for
tuntap. This is done by copying vlan header directly into userspace in
tun_put_user() instead of doing it through __vlan_put_tag() in
dev_hard_start_xmit(). This eliminates one unnecessary memmove() in
vlan_insert_tag() for 802.1ad and 802.1q traffic.

pktgen test shows about 20% improvement for 802.1q traffic:

Before:
  662149pps 317Mb/sec (317831520bps) errors: 0
After:
  801033pps 384Mb/sec (384495840bps) errors: 0

885291761d tuntap: do not zerocopy if iov needs more pages than MAX_SKB_FRAGS
We try to linearize part of the skb when the number of iov is greater than
MAX_SKB_FRAGS. This is not enough since each single vector may occupy more than
one pages, so zerocopy_sg_fromiovec() may still fail and may break the guest
network.

Solve this problem by calculate the pages needed for iov before trying to do
zerocopy and switch to use copy instead of zerocopy if it needs more than
MAX_SKB_FRAGS.

This is done through introducing a new helper to count the pages for iov, and
call uarg->callback() manually when switching from zerocopy to copy to notify
vhost.

We can do further optimization on top.

3dd5c3308e tuntap: correctly linearize skb when zerocopy is used
Userspace may produce vectors greater than MAX_SKB_FRAGS. When we try to
linearize parts of the skb to let the rest of iov to be fit in
the frags, we need count copylen into linear when calling tun_alloc_skb()
instead of partly counting it into data_len. Since this breaks
zerocopy_sg_from_iovec() since its inner counter assumes nr_frags should
be zero at beginning. This cause nr_frags to be increased wrongly without
setting the correct frags.

	drivers/net/xen-netback/netback.c
	net/batman-adv/bat_iv_ogm.c

The ath9k Kconfig conflict was a change of a Kconfig option name right
next to the deletion of another option.

The xen-netback conflict was overlapping changes involving the
handling of the notify list in xen_netbk_rx_action().

Batman conflict resolution provided by Antonio Quartulli, basically
keep everything in both conflict hunks.

The nl80211 conflict is a little more involved. In 'net' we added a
dynamic memory allocation to nl80211_dump_wiphy() to fix a race that
Linus reported. Meanwhile in 'net-next' the handlers were converted
to use pre and post doit handlers which use a flag to determine
whether to hold the RTNL mutex around the operation.

However, the dump handlers to not use this logic. Instead they have
to explicitly do the locking. There were apparent bugs in the
conversion of nl80211_dump_wiphy() in that we were not dropping the
RTNL mutex in all the return paths, and it seems we very much should
be doing so. So I fixed that whilst handling the overlapping changes.

To simplify the initial returns, I take the RTNL mutex after we try
to allocate 'tb'.

8e6d91ae09 tuntap: forbid changing mq flag for persistent device
We currently allow changing the mq flag (IFF_MULTI_QUEUE) for a persistent
device. This will result a mismatch between the number the queues in netdev and
tuntap. This is because we only allocate a 1q netdevice when IFF_MULTI_QUEUE was
not specified, so when we set the IFF_MULTI_QUEUE and try to attach more queues
later, netif_set_real_num_tx_queues() may fail which result a single queue
netdevice with multiple sockets attached.

Solve this by disallowing changing the mq flag for persistent device.

b67bfe0d42 hlist: drop the node parameter from iterators
I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived

        list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member)

The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter:

        hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member)

Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only
they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking
exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate.

Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required:

 - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h
 - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones.
 - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this
was modified to use 'obj->member' instead.
 - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator
properly, so those had to be fixed up manually.

The semantic patch which is mostly the work of Peter Senna Tschudin is here:

c9af6db4c1 net: Fix possible wrong checksum generation.
Patch cef401de7b (net: fix possible wrong checksum
generation) fixed wrong checksum calculation but it broke TSO by
defining new GSO type but not a netdev feature for that type.
net_gso_ok() would not allow hardware checksum/segmentation
offload of such packets without the feature.

Following patch fixes TSO and wrong checksum. This patch uses
same logic that Eric Dumazet used. Patch introduces new flag
SKBTX_SHARED_FRAG if at least one frag can be modified by
the user. but SKBTX_SHARED_FRAG flag is kept in skb shared
info tx_flags rather than gso_type.

tx_flags is better compared to gso_type since we can have skb with
shared frag without gso packet. It does not link SHARED_FRAG to
GSO, So there is no need to define netdev feature for this.

The ipv6 route.c conflict is simple, just ignore the 'net' side change
as we fixed the same problem in 'net-next' by eliminating cached

The e1000e conflict is an addition of a new statistic in the ethtool
code, trivial.

The vmxnet3 conflict is about one change in 'net' removing a guarding
conditional, whilst in 'net-next' we had a netdev_info() conversion.

The iwlwifi conflict is dealing with a WARN_ON() conversion in
'net-next' vs. a revert happening in 'net'.

9e85722d58 tuntap: allow polling/writing/reading when detached
We forbid polling, writing and reading when the file were detached, this may
complex the user in several cases:

- when guest pass some buffers to vhost/qemu and then disable some queues,
host/qemu needs to do its own cleanup on those buffers which is complex
sometimes. We can do this simply by allowing a user can still write to an
disabled queue. Write to an disabled queue will cause the packet pass to the
kernel and read will get nothing.
- align the polling behavior with macvtap which never fails when the queue is
created. This can simplify the polling errors handling of its user (e.g vhost)

We can simply achieve this by don't assign NULL to tfile->tun when detached.

cef401de7b net: fix possible wrong checksum generation
Pravin Shelar mentioned that GSO could potentially generate
wrong TX checksum if skb has fragments that are overwritten
by the user between the checksum computation and transmit.

He suggested to linearize skbs but this extra copy can be
avoided for normal tcp skbs cooked by tcp_sendmsg().

This patch introduces a new SKB_GSO_SHARED_FRAG flag, set
in skb_shinfo(skb)->gso_type if at least one frag can be
modified by the user.

Typical sources of such possible overwrites are {vm}splice(),
sendfile(), and macvtap/tun/virtio_net drivers.

Tested:

$ netperf -H 7.7.8.84

Performance of the SENDFILE is impacted by the extra allocation and
copy, and because we use order-0 pages, while the TCP_STREAM uses
bigger pages.

b8732fb7f8 tuntap: limit the number of flow caches
We create new flow caches when a new flow is identified by tuntap, This may lead
some issues:

- userspace may produce a huge amount of short live flows to exhaust host memory
- the unlimited number of flow caches may produce a long list which increase the

Solve this by introducing a limit of total number of flow caches.

5dbbaf2de8 tun: fix LSM/SELinux labeling of tun/tap devices
This patch corrects some problems with LSM/SELinux that were introduced
with the multiqueue patchset. The problem stems from the fact that the
multiqueue work changed the relationship between the tun device and its
associated socket; before the socket persisted for the life of the
device, however after the multiqueue changes the socket only persisted
for the life of the userspace connection (fd open). For non-persistent
devices this is not an issue, but for persistent devices this can cause
the tun device to lose its SELinux label.

We correct this problem by adding an opaque LSM security blob to the
tun device struct which allows us to have the LSM security state, e.g.
SELinux labeling information, persist for the lifetime of the tun
device. In the process we tweak the LSM hooks to work with this new
approach to TUN device/socket labeling and introduce a new LSM hook,
security_tun_dev_attach_queue(), to approve requests to attach to a
TUN queue via TUNSETQUEUE.

The SELinux code has been adjusted to match the new LSM hooks, the
other LSMs do not make use of the LSM TUN controls. This patch makes
use of the recently added "tun_socket:attach_queue" permission to
restrict access to the TUNSETQUEUE operation. On older SELinux
policies which do not define the "tun_socket:attach_queue" permission
the access control decision for TUNSETQUEUE will be handled according
to the SELinux policy's unknown permission setting.

4008e97f86 tuntap: fix ambigious multiqueue API
The current multiqueue API is ambigious which may confuse both user and LSM to
do things correctly:

- Both TUNSETIFF and TUNSETQUEUE could be used to create the queues of a tuntap
  device.
- TUNSETQUEUE were used to disable and enable a specific queue of the
device. But since the state of tuntap were completely removed from the queue,
it could be used to attach to another device (there's no such kind of
requirement currently, and it needs new kind of LSM policy.
- TUNSETQUEUE could be used to attach to a persistent device without any
queues. This kind of attching bypass the necessary checking during TUNSETIFF
  and may lead unexpected result.

So this patch tries to make a cleaner and simpler API by:

- Only allow TUNSETIFF to create queues.
- TUNSETQUEUE could be only used to disable and enabled the queues of a device,
and the state of the tuntap device were not detachd from the queues when it
was disabled, so TUNSETQUEUE could be only used after TUNSETIFF and with the
   same device.

This is done by introducing a list which keeps track of all queues which were
disabled. The queue would be moved between this list and tfiles[] array when it
was enabled/disabled. A pointer of the tun_struct were also introdued to track
the device it belongs to when it was disabled.

After the change, the isolation between management and application could be done
through: TUNSETIFF were only called by management software and TUNSETQUEUE were
only called by application. For LSM/SELinux, the things left is to do proper
check during tun_set_queue() if needed.

5d09710925 tun: only queue packets on device
Historically tun supported two modes of operation:
- in default mode, a small number of packets would get queued
at the device, the rest would be queued in qdisc
- in one queue mode, all packets would get queued at the device

This might have made sense up to a point where we made the
queue depth for both modes the same and set it to
a huge value (500) so unless the consumer
is stuck the chance of losing packets is small.

Thus in practice both modes behave the same, but the
default mode has some problems:
- if packets are never consumed, fragments are never orphaned
which cases a DOS for sender using zero copy transmit
- overrun errors are hard to diagnose: fifo error is incremented
only once so you can not distinguish between
userspace that is stuck and a transient failure,
tcpdump on the device does not show any traffic

Userspace solves this simply by enabling IFF_ONE_QUEUE
but there seems to be little point in not doing the
right thing for everyone, by default.

eb0fb363f9 tuntap: attach queue 0 before registering netdevice
We attach queue 0 after registering netdevice currently. This leads to call
netif_set_real_num_{tx|rx}_queues() after registering the netdevice. Since we
allow tun/tap has a maximum of 1024 queues, this may lead a huge number of
uevents to be injected to userspace since we create 2048 kobjects and then
remove 2046. Solve this problem by attaching queue 0 and set the real number of

96442e4242 tuntap: choose the txq based on rxq
This patch implements a simple multiqueue flow steering policy - tx follows rx
for tun/tap. The idea is simple, it just choose the txq based on which rxq it
comes. The flow were identified through the rxhash of a skb, and the hash to
queue mapping were recorded in a hlist with an ageing timer to retire the
mapping. The mapping were created when tun receives packet from userspace, and
was quired in .ndo_select_queue().

I run co-current TCP_CRR test and didn't see any mapping manipulation helpers in
perf top, so the overhead could be negelected.

c8d68e6be1 tuntap: multiqueue support
This patch converts tun/tap to a multiqueue devices and expose the multiqueue
queues as multiple file descriptors to userspace. Internally, each tun_file were
abstracted as a queue, and an array of pointers to tun_file structurs were
stored in tun_structure device, so multiple tun_files were allowed to be
attached to the device as multiple queues.

When choosing txq, we first try to identify a flow through its rxhash, if it
does not have such one, we could try recorded rxq and then use them to choose
the transmit queue. This policy may be changed in the future.

6e914fc707 tuntap: RCUify dereferencing between tun_struct and tun_file
RCU were introduced in this patch to synchronize the dereferences between
tun_struct and tun_file. All tun_{get|put} were replaced with RCU, the
dereference from one to other must be done under rtnl lock or rcu read critical
region.

This is needed for the following patches since the one of the goal of multiqueue
tuntap is to allow adding or removing queues during workload. Without RCU,
control path would hold tx locks when adding or removing queues (which may cause
sme delay) and it's hard to change the number of queues without stopping the net
device. With the help of rcu, there's also no need for tun_file hold an refcnt
to tun_struct.

54f968d6ef tuntap: move socket to tun_file
Current tuntap makes use of the socket receive queue as its tx queue. To
implement multiple tx queues for tuntap and enable the ability of adding and
removing queues during workload, the first step is to move the socket related
structures to tun_file. Then we could let multiple fds/sockets to be attached to
the tuntap.

This patch removes tun_sock and moves socket related structures from tun_sock or
tun_struct to tun_file. Two exceptions are tap_filter and sock_fprog, they are
still kept in tun_structure since they are used to filter packets for the net
device instead of per transmit queue (at least I see no requirements for
them). After those changes, socket were created and destroyed during file open
and close (instead of device creation and destroy), the socket structures could
be dereferenced from tun_file instead of the file of tun_struct structure
itself.

For persisent device, since we purge during datching and wouldn't queue any
packets when no interface were attached, there's no behaviod changes before and
after this patch, so the changes were transparent to the userspace. To keep the
attributes such as sndbuf, socket filter and vnet header, those would be
re-initialize after a new interface were attached to an persist device.

6a328d8c6f cgroup: net_cls: Rework update socket logic
The cgroup logic part of net_cls is very similar as the one in
net_prio. Let's stream line the net_cls logic with the net_prio one.

The net_prio update logic was changed by following commit (note there
were some changes necessary later on)

commit 406a3c638c
Author: John Fastabend <john.r.fastabend@intel.com>
Date: Fri Jul 20 10:39:25 2012 +0000

net: netprio_cgroup: rework update socket logic

Instead of updating the sk_cgrp_prioidx struct field on every send
this only updates the field when a task is moved via cgroup
    infrastructure.

This allows sockets that may be used by a kernel worker thread
to be managed. For example in the iscsi case today a user can
put iscsid in a netprio cgroup and control traffic will be sent
with the correct sk_cgrp_prioidx value set but as soon as data
is sent the kernel worker thread isssues a send and sk_cgrp_prioidx
is updated with the kernel worker threads value which is the
    default case.

It seems more correct to only update the field when the user
explicitly sets it via control group infrastructure. This allows
the users to manage sockets that may be used with other threads.

Since classid is now updated when the task is moved between the
cgroups, we don't have to call sock_update_classid() from various
places to ensure we always using the latest classid value.

437589a74b Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull user namespace changes from Eric Biederman:
"This is a mostly modest set of changes to enable basic user namespace
support. This allows the code to code to compile with user namespaces
enabled and removes the assumption there is only the initial user
namespace. Everything is converted except for the most complex of the
filesystems: autofs4, 9p, afs, ceph, cifs, coda, fuse, gfs2, ncpfs,
nfs, ocfs2 and xfs as those patches need a bit more review.

The strategy is to push kuid_t and kgid_t values are far down into
subsystems and filesystems as reasonable. Leaving the make_kuid and
from_kuid operations to happen at the edge of userspace, as the values
come off the disk, and as the values come in from the network.
Letting compile type incompatible compile errors (present when user
namespaces are enabled) guide me to find the issues.

The most tricky areas have been the places where we had an implicit
union of uid and gid values and were storing them in an unsigned int.
Those places were converted into explicit unions. I made certain to
handle those places with simple trivial patches.

Out of that work I discovered we have generic interfaces for storing
quota by projid. I had never heard of the project identifiers before.
Adding full user namespace support for project identifiers accounts
for most of the code size growth in my git tree.

Ultimately there will be work to relax privlige checks from
"capable(FOO)" to "ns_capable(user_ns, FOO)" where it is safe allowing
root in a user names to do those things that today we only forbid to
non-root users because it will confuse suid root applications.

While I was pushing kuid_t and kgid_t changes deep into the audit code
I made a few other cleanups. I capitalized on the fact we process
netlink messages in the context of the message sender. I removed
usage of NETLINK_CRED, and started directly using current->tty.

Some of these patches have also made it into maintainer trees, with no
problems from identical code from different trees showing up in
  linux-next.

After reading through all of this code I feel like I might be able to
win a game of kernel trivial pursuit."

Fix up some fairly trivial conflicts in netfilter uid/git logging code.

66d1b9263a tun: don't zeroize sock->file on detach
This is a fix for bug, introduced in 3.4 kernel by commit
1ab5ecb90c ("tun: don't hold network
namespace by tun sockets"), which, among other things, replaced simple
sock_put() by sk_release_kernel(). Below is sequence, which leads to
oops for non-persistent devices:

tun_chr_close()
tun_detach()				<== tun->socket.file = NULL
tun_free_netdev()
sk_release_sock()
sock_release(sock->file == NULL)
iput(SOCK_INODE(sock)) <== dereference on NULL pointer

This patch just removes zeroing of socket's file from __tun_detach().
sock_release() will do this.

b09e786bd1 tun: fix a crash bug and a memory leak
This patch fixes a crash
tun_chr_close -> netdev_run_todo -> tun_free_netdev -> sk_release_kernel ->
sock_release -> iput(SOCK_INODE(sock))
introduced by commit 1ab5ecb90c

The problem is that this socket is embedded in struct tun_struct, it has
no inode, iput is called on invalid inode, which modifies invalid memory
and optionally causes a crash.

sock_release also decrements sockets_in_use, this causes a bug that
"sockets: used" field in /proc/*/net/sockstat keeps on decreasing when
creating and closing tun devices.

This patch introduces a flag SOCK_EXTERNALLY_ALLOCATED that instructs
sock_release to not free the inode and not decrement sockets_in_use,
fixing both memory corruption and sockets_in_use underflow.

It should be backported to 3.3 an 3.4 stabke.
