walk_page_range() is going to be allowed to walk page tables other than
those of user space. For this it needs to know when it has reached a
'leaf' entry in the page tables. This information will be provided by the
p?d_leaf() functions/macros.
For arc, we only have two levels, so only pmd_leaf() is needed.

Pull sysctl system call removal from Eric Biederman:
"As far as I can tell we have reached the point where no one enables
the sysctl system call anymore. It still is enabled in a few
defconfigs but they are mostly the rarely used one and in asking
people about that it was more cut & paste enabled than anything else.
This is single commit that just deletes code. Leaving just enough code
so that the deprecated sysctl warning continues to be printed. If my
analysis turns out to be wrong and someone actually cares it will be
easy to revert this commit and have the system call again.
There was one new xtensa defconfig in linux-next that enabled the
system call this cycle and when asked about it the maintainer of the
code replied that it was not enabled on purpose. As of today's
linux-next tree that defconfig no longer enables the system call.
What we saw in the review discussion was that if we go a step farther
than my patch and mess with uapi headers there are pieces of code that
won't compile, but nothing minds the system call actually disappearing
from the kernel"

This patch (of 5):
With paging code made 5-level compliant, this is no longer needed. ARC
has software page walker with 2 lookup levels (pgd -> pte)
This was expected to be non functional change but ended with slight

msi.h is generic for all architectures except x86, which has its own
version. Enabling MSI by adding msi.h to every architecture's Kbuild is
just an additional step which doesn't need to be done.
Make msi.h mandatory in the asm-generic/Kbuild so we don't have to do it
for each architecture.

This system call has been deprecated almost since it was introduced, and
in a survey of the linux distributions I can no longer find any of them
that enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. The only indication that I can find
that anyone might care is that a few of the defconfigs in the kernel
enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. However this appears in only 31 of 414
defconfigs in the kernel, so I suspect this symbols presence is simply
because it is harmless to include rather than because it is necessary.
As there appear to be no users of the sysctl system call, remove the
code. As this removes one of the few uses of the internal kernel mount
of proc I hope this allows for even more simplifications of the proc
filesystem.

that point back to plain ioremap directly or indirectly. Remove these

For MMUv3 (and prior) the flush_tlb_{range,mm,page} API use the MMU
TLBWrite cmd which already nukes the entire uTLB, so NO need for
additional IVUTLB cmd from utlb_invalidate() - hence this patch
local_flush_tlb_all() is special since it uses a weaker TLBWriteNI
cmd (prec commit) to shoot down JTLB, hence we retain the explicit
uTLB flush
Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com>
The unconditional full TLB flush (on say ASID rollover) iterates over each
entry and uses TLBWrite to zero it out. TLBWrite by design also invalidates
the uTLBs thus we end up invalidating it as many times as numbe rof
entries (512 or 1k)
Optimize this by using a weaker TLBWriteNI cmd in loop, which doesn't
tinker with uTLBs and an explicit one time IVUTLB, outside the loop to
invalidate them all once.
And given the optimiztion, the IVUTLB is now needed on MMUv4 too where
the uTLBs and JTLBs are otherwise coherent given the TLBInsertEntry /
TLBDeleteEntry commands

ARC700 exception (and intr handling) didn't have auto stack switching
thus had to rely on stashing a reg temporarily (to free it up) at a
known place in memory, allowing to code up the low level stack switching.
This however was not re-entrant in SMP which thus had to repurpose the
per-cpu MMU SCRATCH DATA register otherwise used to "cache" the task pdg
pointer (vs. reading it from mm struct)
The newer HS cores do have auto-stack switching and thus even SMP builds
can use the MMU SCRATCH reg as originally intended.

For some reason we use ns8250 UART compatible on UP HAPS
configuration and ns16550a (which is ns8250 with FIFO support)
on SMP HAPS configuration.
Given that we have same UART IP with same IP configuration
on both HAPS configuration use ns16550a compatible everywhere.

8-letter strings representing ARC perf events are stores in two
32-bit registers as ASCII characters like that: "IJMP", "IALL", "IJMPTAK" etc.
And the same order of bytes in the word is used regardless CPU endianness.
Which means in case of big-endian CPU core we need to swap bytes to get
the same order as if it was on little-endian CPU.
Otherwise we're seeing the following error message on boot:
------------------------->8----------------------

What happens here we're trying to register more than one raw perf event
with the same name "PMJI". Why? Because ARC perf events are 4 to 8 letters
and encoded into two 32-bit words. In this particular case we deal with 2
events:
* "IJMP____" which counts all jump & branch instructions
* "IJMPC___" which counts only conditional jumps & branches
Those strings are split in two 32-bit words this way "IJMP" + "____" &
"IJMP" + "C___" correspondingly. Now if we read them swapped due to CPU core
being big-endian then we read "PMJI" + "____" & "PMJI" + "___C".
And since we interpret read array of ASCII letters as a null-terminated string
on big-endian CPU we end up with 2 events of the same name "PMJI".

The naming of pgtable_page_{ctor,dtor}() seems to have confused a few
people, and until recently arm64 used these erroneously/pointlessly for
other levels of page table.
To make it incredibly clear that these only apply to the PTE level, and to
align with the naming of pgtable_pmd_page_{ctor,dtor}(), let's rename them
to pgtable_pte_page_{ctor,dtor}().
These changes were generated with the following shell script:
----
git grep -lw 'pgtable_page_.tor' | while read FILE; do
sed -i '{s/pgtable_page_ctor/pgtable_pte_page_ctor/}' $FILE;
sed -i '{s/pgtable_page_dtor/pgtable_pte_page_dtor/}' $FILE;
done
----
... with the documentation re-flowed to remain under 80 columns, and
whitespace fixed up in macros to keep backslashes aligned.
There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

Both pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init() are used to initialize kmem
cache for page table allocations on several architectures that do not use
PAGE_SIZE tables for one or more levels of the page table hierarchy.
Most architectures do not implement these functions and use __weak default
NOP implementation of pgd_cache_init(). Since there is no such default
for pgtable_cache_init(), its empty stub is duplicated among most
architectures.
Rename the definitions of pgd_cache_init() to pgtable_cache_init() and
drop empty stubs of pgtable_cache_init().

Patch series "mm: remove quicklist page table caches".
A while ago Nicholas proposed to remove quicklist page table caches [1].
I've rebased his patch on the curren upstream and switched ia64 and sh to
use generic versions of PTE allocation.
[1] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20190711030339.20892-1-npiggin@gmail.com
This patch (of 3):
Remove page table allocator "quicklists". These have been around for a
long time, but have not got much traction in the last decade and are only
used on ia64 and sh architectures.
The numbers in the initial commit look interesting but probably don't
apply anymore. If anybody wants to resurrect this it's in the git
history, but it's unhelpful to have this code and divergent allocator
behaviour for minor archs.
Also it might be better to instead make more general improvements to page
allocator if this is still so slow.

arch/arc/Makefile overrides -O2 with -O3. This is the only user of
ARCH_CFLAGS. There is no user of ARCH_CPPFLAGS or ARCH_AFLAGS.
My plan is to remove ARCH_{CPP,A,C}FLAGS after refactoring the ARC
Makefile.
Currently, ARC has no way to enable -Wmaybe-uninitialized because both
-O3 and -Os disable it. Enabling it will be useful for compile-testing.
This commit allows allmodconfig (, which defaults to -O2) to enable it.
Add CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_PERFORMANCE_O3=y to all the defconfig files
in arch/arc/configs/ in order to keep the current config settings.

This adds support for an optional extra interrupt cell to specify edge
vs level triggered. It is backward compatible with dts files with only
one cell, and will default to level-triggered in such a case.
Note that I had to make a change to idu_irq_set_affinity as well, as
this function was setting the interrupt type to "level" unconditionally,
since this was the only type supported previously.

We want to use DW AXI DMAC on HSDK board in our automated verification
to test cache & dma kernel code changes. This is perfect candidate
as we don't depend on any external peripherals like MMC card / USB
storage / etc.
To increase test coverage we want to test both options:
* DW AXI DMAC is connected through IOC port & dma direct ops used
* DW AXI DMAC is connected to DDR port & dma noncoherent ops used
Introduce 'arc_hsdk_axi_dmac_coherent' global variable which can be
modified by debugger (same way as we patch 'ioc_enable') to switch
between these options without recompiling the kernel.
Depend on this value we tweak memory bridge configuration and
"dma-coherent" DTS property of DW AXI DMAC.

Exception handlers call FAKE_RET_FROM_EXCPN to
- clear AE bit: drop down from exception active to pure kernel mode
allowing further excptions
- set IE bit: re-enable interrupts
It additionally also clears U bit (user mode) and DE bit (delay slot
execution) which is redundant as hardware does that already on any taken
exception. Morevoer the current software clearing is bogus anyways as
the KFLAG instruction being used for purpose can't possibly write those
bits anyways.
So don't pretend to clear them.

Now that BIT() can be used from assembly code, we can safely replace
_BITUL() with equivalent BIT().
UAPI headers are still required to use _BITUL(), but there is no more
reason to use it in kernel headers. BIT() is shorter.

Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman:
"A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
task.
The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.
Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.
This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and
carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends
making this kind of error almost impossible in the future"

Pull locking updates from Ingo Molnar:
"The main changes in this cycle are:
- rwsem scalability improvements, phase #2, by Waiman Long, which are
rather impressive:
"On a 2-socket 40-core 80-thread Skylake system with 40 reader
and writer locking threads, the min/mean/max locking operations
done in a 5-second testing window before the patchset were:
40 readers, Iterations Min/Mean/Max = 1,807/1,808/1,810
40 writers, Iterations Min/Mean/Max = 1,807/50,344/151,255
After the patchset, they became:
40 readers, Iterations Min/Mean/Max = 30,057/31,359/32,741
40 writers, Iterations Min/Mean/Max = 94,466/95,845/97,098"
There's a lot of changes to the locking implementation that makes
it similar to qrwlock, including owner handoff for more fair
locking.
Another microbenchmark shows how across the spectrum the
improvements are:
"With a locking microbenchmark running on 5.1 based kernel, the
total locking rates (in kops/s) on a 2-socket Skylake system
with equal numbers of readers and writers (mixed) before and
after this patchset were:
# of Threads Before Patch After Patch
------------ ------------ -----------
2 2,618 4,193
4 1,202 3,726
8 802 3,622
16 729 3,359
32 319 2,826
64 102 2,744"
The changes are extensive and the patch-set has been through
several iterations addressing various locking workloads. There
might be more regressions, but unless they are pathological I
believe we want to use this new implementation as the baseline
going forward.
- jump-label optimizations by Daniel Bristot de Oliveira: the primary
motivation was to remove IPI disturbance of isolated RT-workload
CPUs, which resulted in the implementation of batched jump-label
updates. Beyond the improvement of the real-time characteristics
kernel, in one test this patchset improved static key update
overhead from 57 msecs to just 1.4 msecs - which is a nice speedup
as well.
- atomic64_t cross-arch type cleanups by Mark Rutland: over the last
~10 years of atomic64_t existence the various types used by the
APIs only had to be self-consistent within each architecture -
which means they became wildly inconsistent across architectures.
Mark puts and end to this by reworking all the atomic64
implementations to use 's64' as the base type for atomic64_t, and
to ensure that this type is consistently used for parameters and
return values in the API, avoiding further problems in this area.
- A large set of small improvements to lockdep by Yuyang Du: type
cleanups, output cleanups, function return type and othr cleanups
all around the place.
- A set of percpu ops cleanups and fixes by Peter Zijlstra.
- Misc other changes - please see the Git log for more details"

As a preparation for QEMU usage for ARC let's add basic Virtio-MMIO
peripherals support for the platform we're going to use.
For now we add 5 Virtio slots in .dts and enable block and network devices
via Virtio-MMIO.
Note even though typically Virtio register set fits in 0x200 bytes
we "allocate" here 0x2000 so that it matches ARC's default 8KiB page size
and so remapping of that area is done clearly.
We also enable DEVTMPFS automount for more convenient use
of external root file-stystem. Before that we used to use built-in
Initramfs which didn't automount DEVTMPFS anyways so we didn't need
that option, while now it starts making sense.

Commit 4255b07f2c ("ARCv2: STAR 9000793984: Handle return
from intr to Delay Slot") involved a complex 2 staged trampoline.
Apparently this can be greatly simplified by returning from pure
kernel mode (iso interrupt) so drop to pure kernel mdoe and execute
the normal exception return path.
Testing this was a bit of challenge as return from interrupt is rarely
executed now after commit 4de0e52867 ("ARCv2: STAR 9000814690:
Really Re-enable interrupts to avoid deadlocks"). That fix is necessary
evil and pct interrupts etc do exercise intr return path.
Anyhow after a revert of above in my local test setup I was able to hit
this case and verify the patch works.

Upon a taken interrupt/exception from User mode, HS hardware auto sets Z flag.
This helps shave a few instructions from EXCEPTION_PROLOGUE by eliding
re-reading ERSTATUS and some bit fiddling.
However TLB Miss Exception handler can clobber the CPU flags and still end
up in EXCEPTION_PROLOGUE in the slow path handling TLB handling case:
EV_TLBMissD
do_slow_path_pf
EV_TLBProtV (aliased to call_do_page_fault)
EXCEPTION_PROLOGUE
As a result, EXCEPTION_PROLOGUE need to "unclobber" the Z flag which this
patch changes. It is now pushed out to TLB Miss Exception handler.
The reasons beings:
- The flag restoration is only needed for slowpath TLB Miss Exception
handling, but currently being in EXCEPTION_PROLOGUE penalizes all
exceptions such as ProtV and syscall Trap, where Z flag is already
as expected.
- Pushing unclobber out to where it was clobbered is much cleaner and
also serves to document the fact.
- Makes EXCEPTION_PROLGUE similar to INTERRUPT_PROLOGUE so easier to
refactor the common parts which is what this series aims to do

In case of successful page fault handling, this patch releases mmap_sem
before updating the perf stat event for major/minor faults. So even
though the contention reduction is NOT super high, it is still an
improvement.
There's an additional code size improvement as we only have 2 up_read()
calls now.
Note to myself:
--------------
1. Given the way it is done, we are forced to move @bad_area label earlier
causing the various "goto bad_area" cases to hit perf stat code.
- PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS is NOW updated for access errors which is what
arm/arm64 seem to be doing as well (with slightly different code)
- PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS_{MAJ,MIN} must NOT be updated for the
error case which is guarded by now setting @fault initial value
to VM_FAULT_ERROR which serves both cases when handle_mm_fault()
returns error or is not called at all.
2. arm/arm64 use two homebrew fault flags VM_FAULT_BAD{MAP,MAPACCESS}
which I was inclined to add too but seems not needed for ARC
- given that we have everything is 1 function we can still use goto
- we setup si_code at the right place (arm* do that in the end)
- we init fault already to error value which guards entry into perf
stats event update

- single up_read() call vs. 4
- so much easier on eyes
Technically it seems like @bad_area label moved up, but even in old
regime, it was a special case of delivering SIGSEGV unconditionally
which we now do as well, although with checks.
Also note that @fault needs to be initialized since we can land in
@bad_area (which reads it) without setting it up with return value of
handle_mm_fault() - failing to do so did bite us although as a side
effect of different patch: see [1]

Commit 5318321d36 ("samples: disable CONFIG_SAMPLES for UML") used
a big hammer to fix the build errors under the samples/ directory.
Only some samples actually include uapi headers from usr/include.
Introduce CONFIG_HEADERS_INSTALL since 'depends on HEADERS_INSTALL' is
clearer than 'depends on !UML'. If this option is enabled, uapi headers
are installed before starting directory descending.
I added 'depends on HEADERS_INSTALL' to per-sample CONFIG options.
This allows UML to compile some samples.

some use their own peculiar logic to split sections.
Convert everything to ReST without affecting too much
the author's style and avoiding adding uneeded markups.
The conversion is actually:
- add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs;
- fix tables markups;
- add some lists markups;
- mark literal blocks;
- adjust title markups.
At its new index.rst, let's add a :orphan: while this is not linked to

HSDK SoC has memory bridge which allows to configure memory map
for different AXI masters in runtime.
As of today we adjust memory apertures configuration in U-boot
so we have different configuration in case of loading kernel
via U-boot and JTAG.
It isn't really critical in case of existing platform configuration
as configuration differs for <currently> unused address space
regions or unused AXI masters. However we may face with this
issue when we'll bringup new peripherals or touch their address
space.
Fix that by perform full configuration of memory bridge in HSDK
platform code. Basically we simply copy memory bridge configuration
code from U-boot.

For a long time we used to hard-code CROSS_COMPILE prefix
for ARC until it started to cause problems, so we decided to
solely rely on CROSS_COMPILE externally set by a user:
commit 40660f1fce ("ARC: build: Don't set CROSS_COMPILE in arch's Makefile").
While it works perfectly fine for build-systems where the prefix
gets defined anyways for us human beings it's quite an annoying
requirement especially given most of time the same one prefix
"arc-linux-" is all what we need.
It looks like finally we're getting the best of both worlds:
1. W/o cross-toolchain we still may install headers, build .dtb etc
2. W/ cross-toolchain get the kerne built with only ARCH=arc
Inspired by [1] & [2].

A side note: even though "cc-cross-prefix" does its job it pollutes
console with output of "which" for all the prefixes it didn't manage to find
a matching cross-compiler for like that:

As synchronous exceptions really only make sense against the current
task (otherwise how are you synchronous) remove the task parameter
from from force_sig_fault to make it explicit that is what is going
on.
The two known exceptions that deliver a synchronous exception to a
stopped ptraced task have already been changed to
force_sig_fault_to_task.
The callers have been changed with the following emacs regular expression
(with obvious variations on the architectures that take more arguments)
to avoid typos:
force_sig_fault[(]\([^,]+\)[,]\([^,]+\)[,]\([^,]+\)[,]\W+current[)]

As of today if userspace process tries to access a kernel virtual addres
(0x7000_0000 to 0x7ffff_ffff) such that a legit kernel mapping already
exists, that process hangs instead of being killed with SIGSEGV
Fix that by ensuring that do_page_fault() handles kenrel vaddr only if
in kernel mode.
And given this, we can also simplify the code a bit. Now a vmalloc fault
implies kernel mode so its failure (for some reason) can reuse the
@no_context label and we can remove @bad_area_nosemaphore.

Pull audit updates from Paul Moore:
"We've got a reasonably broad set of audit patches for the v5.2 merge
window, the highlights are below:
- The biggest change, and the source of all the arch/* changes, is
the patchset from Dmitry to help enable some of the work he is
doing around PTRACE_GET_SYSCALL_INFO.
To be honest, including this in the audit tree is a bit of a
stretch, but it does help move audit a little further along towards
proper syscall auditing for all arches, and everyone else seemed to
agree that audit was a "good" spot for this to land (or maybe they
just didn't want to merge it? dunno.).
- We can now audit time/NTP adjustments.
- We continue the work to connect associated audit records into a
single event"

Currently support for 64-bit sector_t and blkcnt_t is optional on 32-bit
architectures. These types are required to support block device and/or
file sizes larger than 2 TiB, and have generally defaulted to on for
a long time. Enabling the option only increases the i386 tinyconfig
size by 145 bytes, and many data structures already always use
64-bit values for their in-core and on-disk data structures anyway,
so there should not be a large change in dynamic memory usage either.
Dropping this option removes a somewhat weird non-default config that
has cause various bugs or compiler warnings when actually used.

Currently, we have two different implementation of rwsem:
1) CONFIG_RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK (rwsem-spinlock.c)
2) CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM (rwsem-xadd.c)
As we are going to use a single generic implementation for rwsem-xadd.c
and no architecture-specific code will be needed, there is no point
in keeping two different implementations of rwsem. In most cases, the
performance of rwsem-spinlock.c will be worse. It also doesn't get all
the performance tuning and optimizations that had been implemented in
rwsem-xadd.c over the years.
For simplication, we are going to remove rwsem-spinlock.c and make all
architectures use a single implementation of rwsem - rwsem-xadd.c.
All references to RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK and RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM
in the code are removed.
