This adds a new ioctl, KVM_PPC_GET_CPU_CHAR, that gives userspace
information about the underlying machine's level of vulnerability
to the recently announced vulnerabilities CVE-2017-5715,
CVE-2017-5753 and CVE-2017-5754, and whether the machine provides
instructions to assist software to work around the vulnerabilities.
The ioctl returns two u64 words describing characteristics of the
CPU and required software behaviour respectively, plus two mask
words which indicate which bits have been filled in by the kernel,
for extensibility. The bit definitions are the same as for the
new H_GET_CPU_CHARACTERISTICS hypercall.
There is also a new capability, KVM_CAP_PPC_GET_CPU_CHAR, which
indicates whether the new ioctl is available.

This adds a register identifier for use with the one_reg interface
to allow the decrementer expiry time to be read and written by
userspace. The decrementer expiry time is in guest timebase units
and is equal to the sum of the decrementer and the guest timebase.
(The expiry time is used rather than the decrementer value itself
because the expiry time is not constantly changing, though the
decrementer value is, while the guest vcpu is not running.)
Without this, a guest vcpu migrated to a new host will see its
decrementer set to some random value. On POWER8 and earlier, the
decrementer is 32 bits wide and counts down at 512MHz, so the
guest vcpu will potentially see no decrementer interrupts for up
to about 4 seconds, which will lead to a stall. With POWER9, the
decrementer is now 56 bits side, so the stall can be much longer
(up to 2.23 years) and more noticeable.
To help work around the problem in cases where userspace has not been
updated to migrate the decrementer expiry time, we now set the
default decrementer expiry at vcpu creation time to the current time
rather than the maximum possible value. This should mean an
immediate decrementer interrupt when a migrated vcpu starts
running. In cases where the decrementer is 32 bits wide and more
than 4 seconds elapse between the creation of the vcpu and when it
first runs, the decrementer would have wrapped around to positive
values and there may still be a stall - but this is no worse than
the current situation. In the large-decrementer case, we are sure
to get an immediate decrementer interrupt (assuming the time from
vcpu creation to first run is less than 2.23 years) and we thus
avoid a very long stall.

Setting si_code to 0 results in a userspace seeing an si_code of 0.
This is the same si_code as SI_USER. Posix and common sense requires
that SI_USER not be a signal specific si_code. As such this use of 0
for the si_code is a pretty horribly broken ABI.
Further use of si_code == 0 guaranteed that copy_siginfo_to_user saw a
value of __SI_KILL and now sees a value of SIL_KILL with the result
that uid and pid fields are copied and which might copying the si_addr
field by accident but certainly not by design. Making this a very
flakey implementation.
Utilizing FPE_FIXME and TRAP_FIXME, siginfo_layout() will now return
SIL_FAULT and the appropriate fields will be reliably copied.
Possible ABI fixes includee:
- Send the signal without siginfo
- Don't generate a signal
- Possibly assign and use an appropriate si_code
- Don't handle cases which can't happen

Commit 0515e5999a ("bpf: introduce BPF_PROG_TYPE_PERF_EVENT
program type") introduced the bpf_perf_event_data structure which
exports the pt_regs structure. This is OK for multiple architectures
but fail for s390 and arm64 which do not export pt_regs. Programs
using them, for example, the bpf selftest fail to compile on these
architectures.
For s390, exporting the pt_regs is not an option because s390 wants
to allow changes to it. For arm64, there is a user_pt_regs structure
that covers parts of the pt_regs structure for use by user space.
To solve the broken uapi for s390 and arm64, introduce an abstract
type for pt_regs and add an asm/bpf_perf_event.h file that concretes
the type. An asm-generic header file covers the architectures that
export pt_regs today.
The arch-specific enablement for s390 and arm64 follows in separate
commits.

Many user space API headers have licensing information, which is either
incomplete, badly formatted or just a shorthand for referring to the
license under which the file is supposed to be. This makes it hard for
compliance tools to determine the correct license.
Update these files with an SPDX license identifier. The identifier was
chosen based on the license information in the file.
GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license
identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is
the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall
exception:
NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel
services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use
of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work".
This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL
code, without confusing license compliance tools.
Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed
under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX
identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier. The format
is:
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR SPDX-ID-OF-OTHER-LICENSE)
SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be
used instead of the full boiler plate text. The update does not remove
existing license information as this has to be done on a case by case
basis and the copyright holders might have to be consulted. This will
happen in a separate step.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne. See the previous patch in this series for the
methodology of how this patch was researched.

Many user space API headers are missing licensing information, which
makes it hard for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default are files without license information under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPLV2. Marking them GPLV2 would exclude
them from being included in non GPLV2 code, which is obviously not
intended. The user space API headers fall under the syscall exception
which is in the kernels COPYING file:
NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel
services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use
of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work".
otherwise syscall usage would not be possible.
Update the files which contain no license information with an SPDX
license identifier. The chosen identifier is 'GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note' which is the officially assigned identifier for the
Linux syscall exception. SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

Some CPUs can operate in a mode where TM (Transactional Memory) is
enabled but the suspended state of TM is disabled. In this mode
tsuspend does not enter suspended state, instead the transaction is
aborted. Similarly any other event that would lead to suspended state
instead aborts the transaction.
There is also an ABI change, in that in this mode processes are not
allowed to sigreturn with an MSR that would lead to suspended state,
Linux will instead return an error to the sigreturn syscall.

A non-default huge page size can be encoded in the flags argument of the
mmap system call. The definitions for these encodings are in arch
specific header files. However, all architectures use the same values.
Consolidate all the definitions in the primary user header file
(uapi/linux/mman.h). Include definitions for all known huge page sizes.
Use the generic encoding definitions in hugetlb_encode.h as the basis

Enhance KVM to cause a guest exit with KVM_EXIT_NMI
exit reason upon a machine check exception (MCE) in
the guest address space if the KVM_CAP_PPC_FWNMI
capability is enabled (instead of delivering a 0x200
interrupt to guest). This enables QEMU to build error
log and deliver machine check exception to guest via
guest registered machine check handler.
This approach simplifies the delivery of machine
check exception to guest OS compared to the earlier
approach of KVM directly invoking 0x200 guest interrupt
vector.
This design/approach is based on the feedback for the
QEMU patches to handle machine check exception. Details
of earlier approach of handling machine check exception
in QEMU and related discussions can be found at:
https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2014-11/msg00813.html
Note:
This patch now directly invokes machine_check_print_event_info()
from kvmppc_handle_exit_hv() to print the event to host console
at the time of guest exit before the exception is passed on to the
guest. Hence, the host-side handling which was performed earlier
via machine_check_fwnmi is removed.
The reasons for this approach is (i) it is not possible
to distinguish whether the exception occurred in the
guest or the host from the pt_regs passed on the
machine_check_exception(). Hence machine_check_exception()
calls panic, instead of passing on the exception to
the guest, if the machine check exception is not
recoverable. (ii) the approach introduced in this
patch gives opportunity to the host kernel to perform
actions in virtual mode before passing on the exception
to the guest. This approach does not require complex
tweaks to machine_check_fwnmi and friends.

When opening the slave end of a PTY, it is not possible for userspace to
safely ensure that /dev/pts/$num is actually a slave (in cases where the
mount namespace in which devpts was mounted is controlled by an
untrusted process). In addition, there are several unresolvable
race conditions if userspace were to attempt to detect attacks through
stat(2) and other similar methods [in addition it is not clear how
userspace could detect attacks involving FUSE].
Resolve this by providing an interface for userpace to safely open the
"peer" end of a PTY file descriptor by using the dentry cached by
devpts. Since it is not possible to have an open master PTY without
having its slave exposed in /dev/pts this interface is safe. This
interface currently does not provide a way to get the master pty (since
it is not clear whether such an interface is safe or even useful).

Providing "scv" support to userspace requires kernel support, so it
must be advertised as independently to the base ISA 3 instruction set.

Its value has never changed; we might as well make it part of the ABI instead
of using the return value of KVM_CHECK_EXTENSION(KVM_CAP_COALESCED_MMIO).
Because PPC does not always make MMIO available, the code has to be made
dependent on CONFIG_KVM_MMIO rather than KVM_COALESCED_MMIO_PAGE_OFFSET.

This socket option returns the NAPI ID associated with the queue on which
the last frame is received. This information can be used by the apps to
split the incoming flows among the threads based on the Rx queue on which
they are received.
If the NAPI ID actually represents a sender_cpu then the value is ignored
and 0 is returned.

This adds two capabilities and two ioctls to allow userspace to
find out about and configure the POWER9 MMU in a guest. The two
capabilities tell userspace whether KVM can support a guest using
the radix MMU, or using the hashed page table (HPT) MMU with a
process table and segment tables. (Note that the MMUs in the
POWER9 processor cores do not use the process and segment tables
when in HPT mode, but the nest MMU does).
The KVM_PPC_CONFIGURE_V3_MMU ioctl allows userspace to specify
whether a guest will use the radix MMU or the HPT MMU, and to
specify the size and location (in guest space) of the process
table.
The KVM_PPC_GET_RMMU_INFO ioctl gives userspace information about
the radix MMU. It returns a list of supported radix tree geometries
(base page size and number of bits indexed at each level of the
radix tree) and the encoding used to specify the various page
sizes for the TLB invalidate entry instruction.
Initially, both capabilities return 0 and the ioctls return -EINVAL,
until the necessary infrastructure for them to operate correctly
is added.

This patch implements P(Presented)/Q(Queued) states for ICS irqs.
When the interrupt is presented, set P. Present if P was not set.
If P is already set, don't present again, set Q.
When the interrupt is EOI'ed, move Q into P (and clear Q). If it is
set, re-present.
The asserted flag used by LSI is also incorporated into the P bit.
When the irq state is saved, P/Q bits are also saved, they need some
qemu modifications to be recognized and passed around to be restored.
KVM_XICS_PENDING bit set and saved should also indicate
KVM_XICS_PRESENTED bit set and saved. But it is possible some old
code doesn't have/recognize the P bit, so when we restore, we set P
for PENDING bit, too.
The idea and much of the code come from Ben.

This patch exports the sender chronograph stats via the socket
SO_TIMESTAMPING channel. Currently we can instrument how long a
particular application unit of data was queued in TCP by tracking
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SOFTWARE and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SCHED. Having
these sender chronograph stats exported simultaneously along with
these timestamps allow further breaking down the various sender
limitation. For example, a video server can tell if a particular
chunk of video on a connection takes a long time to deliver because
TCP was experiencing small receive window. It is not possible to
tell before this patch without packet traces.
To prepare these stats, the user needs to set
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_TSONLY flags
while requesting other SOF_TIMESTAMPING TX timestamps. When the
timestamps are available in the error queue, the stats are returned
in a separate control message of type SCM_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS,
in a list of TLVs (struct nlattr) of types: TCP_NLA_BUSY_TIME,
TCP_NLA_RWND_LIMITED, TCP_NLA_SNDBUF_LIMITED. Unit is microsecond.

This adds code to handle two new guest-accessible special-purpose
registers on POWER9: TIDR (thread ID register) and PSSCR (processor
stop status and control register). They are context-switched
between host and guest, and the guest values can be read and set
via the one_reg interface.
The PSSCR contains some fields which are guest-accessible and some
which are only accessible in hypervisor mode. We only allow the
guest-accessible fields to be read or set by userspace.

When switching from/to a guest that has a transaction in progress,
we need to save/restore the checkpointed register state. Although
XER is part of the CPU state that gets checkpointed, the code that
does this saving and restoring doesn't save/restore XER.
This fixes it by saving and restoring the XER. To allow userspace
to read/write the checkpointed XER value, we also add a new ONE_REG
specifier.
The visible effect of this bug is that the guest may see its XER
value being corrupted when it uses transactions.

The REAL_LE feature entry in the ibm_pa_feature struct is missing an MMU
feature value, meaning all the remaining elements initialise the wrong
values.
This means instead of checking for byte 5, bit 0, we check for byte 0,
bit 0, and then we incorrectly set the CPU feature bit as well as MMU
feature bit 1 and CPU user feature bits 0 and 2 (5).
Checking byte 0 bit 0 (IBM numbering), means we're looking at the
"Memory Management Unit (MMU)" feature - ie. does the CPU have an MMU.
In practice that bit is set on all platforms which have the property.
This means we set CPU_FTR_REAL_LE always. In practice that seems not to
matter because all the modern cpus which have this property also
implement REAL_LE, and we've never needed to disable it.
We're also incorrectly setting MMU feature bit 1, which is:
#define MMU_FTR_TYPE_8xx 0x00000002
Luckily the only place that looks for MMU_FTR_TYPE_8xx is in Book3E
code, which can't run on the same cpus as scan_features(). So this also
doesn't matter in practice.
Finally in the CPU user feature mask, we're setting bits 0 and 2. Bit 2
is not currently used, and bit 0 is:
#define PPC_FEATURE_PPC_LE 0x00000001
Which says the CPU supports the old style "PPC Little Endian" mode.
Again this should be harmless in practice as no 64-bit CPUs implement
that mode.
Fix the code by adding the missing initialisation of the MMU feature.
Also add a comment marking CPU user feature bit 2 (0x4) as reserved. It
would be unsafe to start using it as old kernels incorrectly set it.

The existing KVM_CREATE_SPAPR_TCE only supports 32bit windows which is not
enough for directly mapped windows as the guest can get more than 4GB.
This adds KVM_CREATE_SPAPR_TCE_64 ioctl and advertises it
via KVM_CAP_SPAPR_TCE_64 capability. The table size is checked against
the locked memory limit.

This patch add the SO_CNX_ADVICE socket option (setsockopt only). The
purpose is to allow an application to give feedback to the kernel about
the quality of the network path for a connected socket. The value
argument indicates the type of quality report. For this initial patch
the only supported advice is a value of 1 which indicates "bad path,
please reroute"-- the action taken by the kernel is to call
dst_negative_advice which will attempt to choose a different ECMP route,
reset the TX hash for flow label and UDP source port in encapsulation,
etc.
This facility should be useful for connected UDP sockets where only the
application can provide any feedback about path quality. It could also
be useful for TCP applications that have additional knowledge about the
path outside of the normal TCP control loop.

GCC 6 will include changes to generated code with -mcmodel=large,
which is used to build kernel modules on powerpc64le. This was
necessary because the large model is supposed to allow arbitrary
sizes and locations of the code and data sections, but the ELFv2
global entry point prolog still made the unconditional assumption
that the TOC associated with any particular function can be found
within 2 GB of the function entry point:
func:
addis r2,r12,(.TOC.-func)@ha
addi r2,r2,(.TOC.-func)@l
.localentry func, .-func
To remove this assumption, GCC will now generate instead this global
entry point prolog sequence when using -mcmodel=large:
.quad .TOC.-func
func:
.reloc ., R_PPC64_ENTRY
ld r2, -8(r12)
add r2, r2, r12
.localentry func, .-func
The new .reloc triggers an optimization in the linker that will
replace this new prolog with the original code (see above) if the
linker determines that the distance between .TOC. and func is in
range after all.
Since this new relocation is now present in module object files,
the kernel module loader is required to handle them too. This
patch adds support for the new relocation and implements the
same optimization done by the GNU linker.

This partially reverts commit a34236155a.
While reviewing the glibc patch to exploit the individual IPC calls,
Arnd & Andreas noticed that we were still requiring userspace to pass
IPC_64 in order to get the new style IPC API.
With a bit of cleanup in the kernel we can drop that requirement, and
instead only provide the new style API, which will simplify things for
userspace.
Rather than try and sneak that patch into 4.4, instead we will drop the
individual IPC calls for powerpc, and merge them again in 4.5 once the
cleanup patch has gone in.
Because we've already added sys_mlock2() as syscall #378, we don't do a
full revert of the IPC calls. Instead we drop the __NR #defines, and
send those now undefined syscall numbers to sys_ni_syscall(). This
leaves a gap in the syscall numbers, but we'll reuse them when we merge
the individual IPC calls.

The previous patch introduced a flag that specified pages in a VMA should
be placed on the unevictable LRU, but they should not be made present when
the area is created. This patch adds the ability to set this state via
the new mlock system calls.
We add MLOCK_ONFAULT for mlock2 and MCL_ONFAULT for mlockall.
MLOCK_ONFAULT will set the VM_LOCKONFAULT modifier for VM_LOCKED.
MCL_ONFAULT should be used as a modifier to the two other mlockall flags.
When used with MCL_CURRENT, all current mappings will be marked with
VM_LOCKED | VM_LOCKONFAULT. When used with MCL_FUTURE, the mm->def_flags
will be marked with VM_LOCKED | VM_LOCKONFAULT. When used with both
MCL_CURRENT and MCL_FUTURE, all current mappings and mm->def_flags will be
marked with VM_LOCKED | VM_LOCKONFAULT.
Prior to this patch, mlockall() will unconditionally clear the
mm->def_flags any time it is called without MCL_FUTURE. This behavior is
maintained after adding MCL_ONFAULT. If a call to mlockall(MCL_FUTURE) is
followed by mlockall(MCL_CURRENT), the mm->def_flags will be cleared and
new VMAs will be unlocked. This remains true with or without MCL_ONFAULT
in either mlockall() invocation.
munlock() will unconditionally clear both vma flags. munlockall()
unconditionally clears for VMA flags on all VMAs and in the mm->def_flags
field.

Currently on powerpc we have our own #define for the highest (negative)
errno value, called _LAST_ERRNO. This is defined to be 516, for reasons
which are not clear.
The generic code, and x86, use MAX_ERRNO, which is defined to be 4095.
In particular seccomp uses MAX_ERRNO to restrict the value that a
seccomp filter can return.
Currently with the mismatch between _LAST_ERRNO and MAX_ERRNO, a seccomp
tracer wanting to return 600, expecting it to be seen as an error, would
instead find on powerpc that userspace sees a successful syscall with a
return value of 600.
To avoid this inconsistency, switch powerpc to use MAX_ERRNO.
We are somewhat confident that generic syscalls that can return a
non-error value above negative MAX_ERRNO have already been updated to
use force_successful_syscall_return().
I have also checked all the powerpc specific syscalls, and believe that
none of them expect to return a non-error value between -MAX_ERRNO and
-516. So this change should be safe ...

This patch changes the syscall handler to doom (tabort) active
transactions when a syscall is made and return very early without
performing the syscall and keeping side effects to a minimum (no CPU
accounting or system call tracing is performed). Also included is a
new HWCAP2 bit, PPC_FEATURE2_HTM_NOSC, to indicate this
behaviour to userspace.
Currently, the system call instruction automatically suspends an
active transaction which causes side effects to persist when an active
transaction fails.
This does change the kernel's behaviour, but in a way that was
documented as unsupported. It doesn't reduce functionality as
syscalls will still be performed after tsuspend; it just requires that
the transaction be explicitly suspended. It also provides a
consistent interface and makes the behaviour of user code
substantially the same across powerpc and platforms that do not
support suspended transactions (e.g. x86 and s390).
Performance measurements using
http://ozlabs.org/~anton/junkcode/null_syscall.c indicate the cost of
a normal (non-aborted) system call increases by about 0.25%.

Though the names are different, their corresponding values are
exactly same. The former is used by EEH core and the latter is

The patch moves those constants from arch/powerpc/include/asm/eeh.h

Firstly we can sometimes fail to abort a syscall because r12 may have
been clobbered by C code if we went down the virtual CPU accounting
path, or if syscall tracing was enabled.
Secondly we have decided that it is safer to abort the syscall even
earlier in the syscall entry path, so that we avoid the syscall tracing
path when we are transactional.
So that we have time to thoroughly test those changes we have decided to
revert this for this merge window and will merge the fixed version in
the next window.
NB. Rather than reverting the selftest we just drop tm-syscall from
TEST_PROGS so that it's not run by default.

This patch changes the syscall handler to doom (tabort) active
transactions when a syscall is made and return immediately without
performing the syscall.
Currently, the system call instruction automatically suspends an
active transaction which causes side effects to persist when an active
transaction fails.
This does change the kernel's behaviour, but in a way that was
documented as unsupported. It doesn't reduce functionality because
syscalls will still be performed after tsuspend. It also provides a
consistent interface and makes the behaviour of user code
substantially the same across powerpc and platforms that do not
support suspended transactions (e.g. x86 and s390).
Performance measurements using
http://ozlabs.org/~anton/junkcode/null_syscall.c
indicate the cost of a system call increases by about 0.5%.

We currently have a "special" syscall for switching endianness. This is
syscall number 0x1ebe, which is handled explicitly in the 64-bit syscall
exception entry.
That has a few problems, firstly the syscall number is outside of the
usual range, which confuses various tools. For example strace doesn't
recognise the syscall at all.
Secondly it's handled explicitly as a special case in the syscall
exception entry, which is complicated enough without it.
As a first step toward removing the special syscall, we need to add a
regular syscall that implements the same functionality.
The logic is simple, it simply toggles the MSR_LE bit in the userspace
MSR. This is the same as the special syscall, with the caveat that the
special syscall clobbers fewer registers.
This version clobbers r9-r12, XER, CTR, and CR0-1,5-7.

As our various loops (copy, string, crypto etc) get more complicated,
we want to share implementations between userspace (eg glibc) and
the kernel. We also want to write userspace test harnesses to put
in tools/testing/selftest.
One gratuitous difference between userspace and the kernel is the
VMX register definitions - the kernel uses vrX whereas both gcc and
glibc use vX.
Change the kernel to match userspace.

introduce new setsockopt() command:
setsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ATTACH_BPF, &prog_fd, sizeof(prog_fd))
where prog_fd was received from syscall bpf(BPF_PROG_LOAD, attr, ...)
and attr->prog_type == BPF_PROG_TYPE_SOCKET_FILTER
setsockopt() calls bpf_prog_get() which increments refcnt of the program,
so it doesn't get unloaded while socket is using the program.
The same eBPF program can be attached to multiple sockets.
User task exit automatically closes socket which calls sk_filter_uncharge()
which decrements refcnt of eBPF program

Alternative to RPS/RFS is to use hardware support for multiple
queues.
Then split a set of million of sockets into worker threads, each
one using epoll() to manage events on its own socket pool.
Ideally, we want one thread per RX/TX queue/cpu, but we have no way to
know after accept() or connect() on which queue/cpu a socket is managed.
We normally use one cpu per RX queue (IRQ smp_affinity being properly
set), so remembering on socket structure which cpu delivered last packet
is enough to solve the problem.
After accept(), connect(), or even file descriptor passing around
processes, applications can use :
int cpu;
socklen_t len = sizeof(cpu);
getsockopt(fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_INCOMING_CPU, &cpu, &len);
And use this information to put the socket into the right silo
for optimal performance, as all networking stack should run
on the appropriate cpu, without need to send IPI (RPS/RFS).

Unfortunately, the LPCR got defined as a 32-bit register in the
one_reg interface. This is unfortunate because KVM allows userspace
to control the DPFD (default prefetch depth) field, which is in the
upper 32 bits. The result is that DPFD always get set to 0, which
reduces performance in the guest.
We can't just change KVM_REG_PPC_LPCR to be a 64-bit register ID,
since that would break existing userspace binaries. Instead we define
a new KVM_REG_PPC_LPCR_64 id which is 64-bit. Userspace can still use
the old KVM_REG_PPC_LPCR id, but it now only modifies those fields in
the bottom 32 bits that userspace can modify (ILE, TC and AIL).
If userspace uses the new KVM_REG_PPC_LPCR_64 id, it can modify DPFD
as well.
