This removes <mach/hardware.h> and <mach/db8500-regs.h>
from the Ux500, merging them into the local include
"db8500-regs.h" in mach-ux500. There is some impact
outside the ux500 machine, but most of it is dealt with
in earlier patches.

The CLOCKSOURCE_OF_DECLARE lines were added without a semicolon at the
end. On my system this causes a compile-time error that looks like:
drivers/clocksource/exynos_mct.c:557:202: warning: comparison of distinct pointer types lacks a cast [enabled by default]
drivers/clocksource/exynos_mct.c:558:1: error: expected ',' or ';' before 'static'

This adds support for the Broadcom timer, used in the following SoCs:
BCM11130, BCM11140, BCM11351, BCM28145, BCM28155
Updates from V6:
- Split DT portion into a separate patch
Updates from V5:
- Rebase to latest arm-soc/for-next
Updates from V4:
- Switch code to use CLOCKSOURCE_OF_DECLARE
Updates from V3:
- Migrate to 3.9 timer framework updates
Updates from V2:
- prepend static fns + fields with kona_
Updates from V1:
- Rename bcm_timer.c to bcm_kona_timer.c
- Pull .h into bcm_kona_timer.c
- Make timers static
- Clean up comment block
- Switched to using clockevents_config_and_register
- Added an error to the get_timer loop if it repeats too much
- Added to Documentation/devicetree/bindings/arm/bcm/bcm,kona-timer.txt
- Added missing readl to timer_disable_and_clear
Note: bcm,kona-timer was kept as the 'compatible' field to make it
specific enough for when there are multiple bcm timers (bcm, timer is
too generic).

The reason for this is to ensure that MTU2 is probed earlier
than with its previous initcall level, module init.
This came up as a problem with using CMT as a clock source kzm9g-reference
which does not make use of early timers or devices. In that scenario
initialisation of SDHI and MMCIF both stall on msleep() calls due to the
absence of a initialised clock source.

This series contains changes for the Marvell EBU platforms (mvebu,
orion, kirkwood, dove) that were not part of the first set of pull
requests because of dependencies on the MMC tree, and being submitted
a little late.
Notable changes are:
* More devices get moved out of board files into device tree
descriptions. The remaining devices listed in there have patches
that will get sent for 3.10, after which we can remove a lot of the
board files entirely. We are doing the pinctrl and mmc drivers here,
ethernet and PCI still remain.
* SMP support for mvebu is improved with support for the
local interrupt controller.
* The Guruplug board file gets replaced with a DT description.
Unfortunately, the dependency on the MMC tree turned out to be a much
larger problem than expected, when the MMC maintainer rebased the patches
in his tree that all of the patches in this branch are based on, which
caused merge conflicts between the new and old versions of those patches.
To work around the merge conflicts, this branch rebases all patches
on top of the respective MMC patches that did get merged into 3.9.
The patches are all identical to the versions that were part of
linux-next, but have a new commit date.
Merge conflicts:
* in board-nsa310.c, the gpio.h inclusion was removed prematurely and
put back as a bug fix earlier. With this series it is really not needed
any more.
* The patch to add rtc support was already applied by Andrew Morton,
and conflicts with a second copy that was in this series, which adds
a lot of other devices to arch/arm/boot/dts/armada-370-xp.dtsi.

other patches merged through the arm-soc tree. In combination with
patches coming through Russell's tree, this will finally add full

been awaited for some time now.
Further, we now have a separate platform for virtual machines

these from the Versatile Express reference implementation.
Obviously, this new platform is multiplatform capable so it

Pull ARM virtualization changes:
"This contains parts of the ARM KVM support that have dependencies on
other patches merged through the arm-soc tree. In combination with
patches coming through Russell's tree, this will finally add full
support for the kernel based virtual machine on ARM, which has been
awaited for some time now.
Further, we now have a separate platform for virtual machines and qemu
booting that is used by both Xen and KVM, separating these from the
Versatile Express reference implementation. Obviously, this new
platform is multiplatform capable so it can be combined with existing
machines in the same kernel."

A large number of cleanups, all over the platforms. This is dominated
largely by the Samsung platforms (s3c, s5p, exynos) and a few of the
others moving code out of arch/arm into more appropriate subsystems.
The clocksource and irqchip drivers are now abstracted to the point
where platforms that are already cleaned up do not need to even specify
the driver they use, it can all get configured from the device tree
as we do for normal device drivers. The clocksource changes basically
touch every single platform in the process.
We further clean up the use of platform specific header files here,
with the goal of turning more of the platforms over to being
"multiplatform" enabled, which implies that they cannot expose
their headers to architecture independent code any more.
It is expected that no functional changes are part of the cleanup.
The overall reduction in total code lines is mostly the result of
removing broken and obsolete code.

The arch_timer driver supports a superset of the functionality of the
arm_generic driver, and is not tied to a particular arch.
This patch moves arm64 to use the arch_timer driver, gaining additional
functionality in doing so, and removes the (now unused) arm_generic
driver. Timer-related hooks specific to arm64 are moved into

The core functionality of the arch_timer driver is not directly tied to
anything under arch/arm, and can be split out.
This patch factors out the core of the arch_timer driver, so it can be
shared with other architectures. A couple of functions are added so
that architecture-specific code can interact with the driver without
needing to touch its internals.
The ARM_ARCH_TIMER config variable is moved out to
drivers/clocksource/Kconfig, existing uses in arch/arm are replaced with
HAVE_ARM_ARCH_TIMER, which selects it.

It is desirable to move all clocksource drivers to drivers/clocksource,
yet each requires its own initialization function. We'd rather not
pollute <linux/> with a header for each function. Instead, create a
single of_clksrc_init() function which will determine which clocksource
driver to initialize based on device tree.
Based on a similar patch for drivers/irqchip by Thomas Petazzoni.

Now that the only field in struct sys_timer is .init, delete the struct,
and replace the machine descriptor .timer field with the initialization
function itself.
This will enable moving timer drivers into drivers/clocksource without
having to place a public prototype of each struct sys_timer object into
include/linux; the intent is to create a single of_clocksource_init()
function that determines which timer driver to initialize by scanning
the device dtree, much like the proposed irqchip_init() at:

This is a branch with updates for Marvell's mvebu/kirkwood platforms. They
came in late-ish, and were heavily interdependent such that it didn't
make sense to split them up across the cross-platform topic branches. So
here they are (for the second release in a row) in a branch on their own.

Here are more patches in the progression towards multiplatform, sparse

Two new platforms have been added, the sunxi platforms (Allwinner A1x
SoCs) by Maxime Ripard, and a generic Broadcom platform for a new
series of ARMv7 platforms from them, where the hope is that we can
keep the platform code generic enough to have them all share one mach
directory. The new Broadcom platform is contributed by Christian Daudt.
Highbank has grown support for Calxeda's next generation of hardware,
ECX-2000.
clps711x has seen a lot of cleanup from Alexander Shiyan, and he's also
taken on maintainership of the platform.
Beyond this there has been a bunch of work from a number of people on
converting more platforms to IRQ domains, pinctrl conversion, cleanup
and general feature enablement across most of the active platforms.

We want to use the virtual counter at EL0, as the physical counter
may not track the current clocksource for guests running under a
hypervisor.
This patch updates the vdso and generic timer driver to use the virtual
counter. The kernel EL2 entry code is also updated to ensure that the
virtual offset is initialised to zero.

This moves the MTU timer driver from arch/arm/plat-nomadik
to drivers/clocksource and moves the header file to the
platform_data directory.
As this moves the last file being compiled to an object out
of arch/arm/plat-nomadik, we have to "turn off the light"
and delete the plat-nomadik directory, because it is not
allowed to have an empty Makefile in a plat-* directory.
This is probably also a desired side effect of depopulating
the arch/arm directory of drivers. Luckily we have just
deleted all the <plat/*> include files prior to this so
by moving the last one we may delete the directory.
After this all the Ux500 and Nomadik device drivers live
outside of the arch/arm hierarchy.

Most notable here is probably the addition of basic support for the
BCM2835, an SoC used in some of the Roku 2 players as well as the
much-hyped Raspberry Pi, cleaned up and contributed by Stephen
Warren. It's still early days on mainline support, with just the
basics working. But it has to start somewhere!
Beyond that there's some conversions of clock infrastructure on tegra
to common clock, misc updates for several other platforms, and OMAP
now has its own bus (under drivers/bus) to manage its devices through.
This branch adds two new directories outside of arch/arm:
drivers/irqchip for new irq controllers, and drivers/bus for the above
OMAP bus. It's expected that some of the other platforms will migrate
parts of their platforms to those directories over time as well.

Merge tag 'soc' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM soc-specific updates from Olof Johansson:
"Most notable here is probably the addition of basic support for the
BCM2835, an SoC used in some of the Roku 2 players as well as the
much-hyped Raspberry Pi, cleaned up and contributed by Stephen Warren.
It's still early days on mainline support, with just the basics
working.
OMAP bus. It's expected that some of the other platforms will migrate
parts of their platforms to those directories over time as well."
Fix up trivial conflicts with the clk infrastructure changes.

The System Timer peripheral provides four 32-bit timer channels and a
single 64-bit free running counter. Each channel has an output compare
register, which is compared against the 32 least significant bits of the
free running counter values, and generates an interrupt.
Timer 3 is used as the Linux timer.
The BCM2835 also contains an SP804-based timer module. However, it
apparently has significant differences from the standard SP804 IP block,
and Broadcom's documentation recommends using the system timer instead.
This patch was extracted from git://github.com/lp0/linux.git branch
rpi-split as of 2012/09/08, and modified as follows:
* s/bcm2708/bcm2835/.
* Modified device tree vendor prefix.
* Moved to drivers/clocksource/. This looks like the desired location for
such code now.
* Added DT binding docs.
* Moved struct sys_timer bcm2835_timer into time.c to encapsulate it more.
* Simplified bcm2835_time_init() to find one matching node and operate on
it, rather than looping over all matching nodes. This seems more
consistent with other clocksource code.
* Simplified bcm2835_time_init() using of_iomap().
* Renamed struct bcm2835_timer.index to match_mask to better represent its
purpose.

This patch adds support for the ARM generic timers with A64 instructions
for accessing the timer registers. It uses the physical counter as the
clock source and the virtual counter as sched_clock.
The timer frequency can be specified via DT or read from the CNTFRQ_EL0
register. The physical counter is also accessible from user space
allowing fast gettimeofday() implementation.

The syscore device PM flag is used to mark the devices (belonging to
a PM domain) that should never be turned off, except for the system
core (syscore) suspend/hibernation and resume stages. That flag is
stored in the device's struct pm_subsys_data object whose address is
available from struct device. However, in some situations it may be
convenient to set that flag before the device is added to a PM
domain, so it is better to move it directly to the "power" member of
struct device. Then, it can be checked by the routines in
drivers/base/power/runtime.c and drivers/base/power/main.c, which is
more straightforward.
This also reduces the number of dev_gpd_data() invocations in the
generic PM domains framework, so the overhead related to the syscore
flag is slightly smaller.

that the hardware doesn't do much besides the parts that are

rudimentary for now, but will be extended in the future.

This platform has been obsoleted and was only available inside of
ST-Ericsson, no users of this code are left in the world. This
deletes the core U5500 support entirely in the same manner as the
obsoleted U8500 silicon was previously deleted.
The cpu_is_u5500() macros that can read out the CPU ID is left
until the next kernel cycle, this makes it possible to merge
deletion of dependent drivers without breakage.
This also has the upside of removing the mailbox driver which was
our only driver that was outside the drivers/* hiearchy, now the
machine directory only handles machines and nothing else.

This reverts commit b519508298.
The reason for this revert is that making the frequency verification
preemptible and interruptible is not working reliably. Michaels
machine failed to use PM-timer with the message:
PM-Timer running at invalid rate: 113% of normal - aborting.
That's not a surprise as the frequency verification does rely on
interrupts being disabled. With a async scheduled thread there is no
guarantee to achieve the same result. Also some driver might fiddle
with the CTC channel 2 during the verification period, which makes the
result even more random and unpredictable.
This can be solved by using the same mechanism as we use in the
deferred TSC validation code, but that only will work if we verified a
working HPET _BEFORE_ trying to do the PM-Timer lazy validation.
So for now reverting is the safe option.

Shared timer IRQs are not a good solution, however the Geode platform has
no APIC, IRQs are a scarce resource and there is no technical reason to
forbid it rightaway. Increased latencies and overhead due to sharing are
still better than a driver refusing to load.

On SMP-capable kernels (e.g. generic distro kernel) the cs5535-clockevt
driver loads but is not actually used.
Setting cpumask to cpu_all_mask works for UP-only kernels, but if compiled
for SMP - though still running on the same UP hardware -
kernel/time/tick-common.c:tick_check_new_device() reads this as
"non-cpu-local" and silently ignores the device.
If we leave cpumask unset clockevents_register_device() will initialize it
and the cs5535-clockevt driver will be used no matter how the kernel was
compiled. Should anyone ever manage to stick a CS553x in an SMP system
(is this even possible?) then a warning will be printed. This is fine as
the cs5535-clockevt driver was never written/tested for SMP.
If bisecting led you here this patch may have exposed a pre-existing MFGPT
problem. Configure for UP-only and re-check.

Some SoC have a 32 bit variant of Timer Counter Blocks. We do not
need the chaining of two 16 bit counters anymore for them.
The SoC nature is deduced from the device tree "compatible" string.
For non-device-tree configurations, backward compatibility is maintained
by using the default 16 bit counter configuration.

The ACPI clocksource takes quite some time to initialize,
and this increases the boot time of the kernel for a
double digit percentage. This while almost all modern
systems will be using the HPET already anyway.
This patch turns the clocksource loading into an asynchronous
operation; which means it won't hold up the boot while
still becoming available normally.
To make this work well, an udelay() had to be turned into an
usleep_range() so that on UP systems, we yield the CPU to
regular boot tasks instead of spinning.

The i8253 clockevent & clocksource driver uses PIT_LATCH
except for two cases where it uses LATCH:
1)
/* VIA686a test code... reset the latch if count > max + 1 */
if (count > LATCH) {
LATCH is based on CLOCK_TICK_RATE which is defined as
PIT_TICK_RATE on x86 so this should just be the later.
2)
...
switch (mode) {
case CLOCK_EVT_MODE_PERIODIC:
/* binary, mode 2, LSB/MSB, ch 0 */
outb_p(0x34, PIT_MODE);
outb_p(LATCH & 0xff , PIT_CH0); /* LSB */
outb_p(LATCH >> 8 , PIT_CH0); /* MSB */
...
MIPS and ARM are the only other arches that use this driver. In
the MIPS case CLOCK_TICK_RATE is defined as the same value as
PIT_TICK_RATE. For ARM, the only machine that uses it is
Footbridge which has a totally bogus CLOCK_TICK_RATE according
to the comments. Furthermore, the clockevent_i8253_init()
initializes the clockevent with PIT_TIC_RATE, so there's
no reason to use the generic LATCH.
This is part of work to remove and depecrate the global
CLOCK_TICK_RATE symbol.

This reverts commit 1b842e91fe.
There is a fundamental ordering race between the early and late probe
paths and the runtime PM tie-in that results in __pm_runtime_resume()
attempting to take a lock that hasn't been initialized yet (which by
proxy also suggests that pm_runtime_init() hasn't yet been run on the
device either, making the entire thing unsafe) -- resulting in instant
death on SMP or on UP with spinlock debugging enabled:
sh_tmu.0: used for clock events
sh_tmu.0: used for periodic clock events
BUG: spinlock trylock failure on UP on CPU#0, swapper/0
lock: 804db198, .magic: 00000000, .owner: <none>/-1, .owner_cpu: 0
...

some more help from the runtime PM framework to make this possible.

Since commit 98962465ed ("nohz: Prevent
clocksource wrapping during idle"), the CPU of an R2D board never goes
to idle. This commit assumes that mult and shift are assigned before
the clocksource is registered. As a consequence the safe maximum sleep
time is negative and the CPU never goes into idle.
This patch fixes the problem by moving mult and shift initialization
from sh_tmu_clocksource_enable() to sh_tmu_register_clocksource().

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

We want to get rid of the clock string from platform data entirely,
depending on the clkdev-based clock lookup to do the right thing for us
instead.
This converts all of the SH drivers to request their associated function
clocks directly, and if there is no match for that then we fall back on
the legacy lookup while warning about it. After all of the outstanding
CPUs have been converted to clkdev lookups the clock string will be
killed off completely.

All of the SH clocksource drivers follow the scheme that the IRQ is setup
prior to registering the clockevent. The interrupt handler in the
clockevent cases looks to the event handler function pointer being filled
in by the registration code, permitting us to get in to situations where
asserted IRQs step in to the handler before registration has had a chance
to complete and hitting a NULL pointer deref.
In practice this is not an issue for most platforms, but some of them

Clocksource and clockevent device based on the Atmel TC blocks.
The clockevent device handles both periodic and oneshot modes, so this
enables NO_HZ and high res timers on some platforms that previously
couldn't use those mechanisms.
This works on both AVR32 and AT91 chips, given relevant patches for
tclib support (always) and clockevents (or else this will only look
like a higher precision clocksource). It's an updated and modularized
version of an AT91-only patch that has circulated for some time now.
Changes relative to the original patch:
* Update to use new tclib API
* Replace open-coded do-while loop using goto with a real do-while loop
* Minor irq handler optimization: Load register base address from
dev_id instead of a global variable.
* Aggressively turn off clocks when the clockevent isn't being used
* Include the clockevent code on AT91RM9200 as well. The rating is
lower than the System Timer, so the clock will usually stay off.
* Don't assume that the number of clocks is always equal to the
number of irqs.

Instead of all drivers reading pci config space to get the revision
ID, they can now use the pci_device->revision member.
This exposes some issues where drivers where reading a word or a dword
for the revision number, and adding useless error-handling around the
read. Some drivers even just read it for no purpose of all.
In devices where the revision ID is being copied over and used in what
appears to be the equivalent of hotpath, I have left the copy code
and the cached copy as not to influence the driver's performance.

On Bob's machine clocksource is selecting PIT over the ACPI PM timer,
because he has the PIIX4 bug. That bug drops the ACPI PM timers rating
to the same as the PIT, so that's why you're getting the PIT.
Realistically, the PIT is much slower then even the triple read ACPI PM,
so the de-ranking code is probably dropping it too far.
So don't drop ACPI PM quite so low if we see the PIIX4 bug.

This patch resolves the issue found here:
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7426
The basic summary is:
Currently we register most of i386/x86_64 clocksources at module_init
time. Then we enable clocksource selection at late_initcall time. This
causes some problems for drivers that use gettimeofday for init
calibration routines (specifically the es1968 driver in this case),
where durring module_init, the only clocksource available is the low-res
jiffies clocksource. This may cause slight calibration errors, due to
the small sampling time used.
It should be noted that drivers that require fine grained time may not
function on architectures that do not have better then jiffies
resolution timekeeping (there are a few). However, this does not
discount the reasonable need for such fine-grained timekeeping at init
time.
Thus the solution here is to register clocksources earlier (ideally when
the hardware is being initialized), and then we enable clocksource
selection at fs_initcall (before device_initcall).
This patch should probably get some testing time in -mm, since
clocksource selection is one of the most important issues for correct
timekeeping, and I've only been able to test this on a few of my own
boxes.

variable and returns either the pm timer readout or 0 in case the pm timer is
not available.
Create a new header file and replace also the ifdef'ed extern definition in
arch/i386/kernel/acpi/boot.c
This is a preperatory patch for the rework of the local apic timer
calibration.
No functional changes.

Using a flag filed allows to encode more than one information into a variable.
Preparatory patch for the generic clocksource verification.

This patch re-adds the verify_pmtmr_rate functionality from 2.6.17 that
I dropped 2.6.18.
This resolves problems seen on older K6 ASUS boards where the ACPI PM
timer runs too fast.

I have an acpi_pm that goes backwards, but it's not intel. I tested the
verified read and my acpi_pm started to function properly. So I added it
to the greylist. I'm assuming that's the right spot.
I also added an unlikely() to the while, cause it seems appropriate.

Implement the time sources for i386 (acpi_pm, cyclone, hpet, pit, and tsc).
With this patch, the conversion of the i386 arch to the generic timekeeping
code should be complete.
The patch should be fairly straight forward, only adding the new clocksources.
