If 4GB mode is enabled, we should add 4GB DMA mode support in i2c
driver. Set 4GB mode register to support 4GB mode.

There can be unnecessary runtime suspend-resume cycle during
i2c-designware-platdrv probe when it registers the I2C adapter device. This
happens because i2c-designware-platdrv is set to initially active platform
device in its probe function and is a parent of I2C adapter.
In that case power.usage_count of i2c-designware device is zero and
pm_runtime_get()/pm_runtime_put() cycle during probe could put it into
runtime suspend. This happens when the i2c_register_adapter() calls the
device_register():

After that the i2c_register_adapter() continues registering I2C slave
devices. In case slave device probe does I2C transfers the parent will
resume again and thus get a needless runtime suspend/resume cycle during
adapter registration.
Prevent this while retaining the runtime PM status of i2c-designware by
only incrementing/decrementing device power usage count during I2C
adapter registration. That makes sure there won't be spurious runtime PM
status changes and lets the driver core to idle the device after probe
finishes.

The i2c-designware-platform module has duplicate module information
when CONFIG_I2C_DESIGNWARE_BAYTRAIL is set. It gets the information
from both i2c-designware-platdrv and i2c-designware-baytrail. The
latter is optional extra code which ends up in the same module so it
should not export module information.

Commit 5de85b9d57 ("PM / runtime: Re-init runtime PM states at probe
error and driver unbind") introduced pm_runtime_reinit() that is used
to reinitialize PM runtime after -EPROBE_DEFER. This allows shutting
down the device after a failed probe.
However, for drivers using pm_runtime_use_autosuspend() this can cause
a state where suspend callback is never called after -EPROBE_DEFER.
On the following device driver probe, hardware state is different from
the PM runtime state causing omap_device to produce the following
error:
omap_device_enable() called from invalid state 1
And with omap_device and omap hardware being picky for PM, this will
block any deeper idle states in hardware.
The solution is to fix the drivers to follow the PM runtime documentation:
1. For sections of code that needs the device disabled, use
pm_runtime_put_sync_suspend() if pm_runtime_set_autosuspend() has
been set.
2. For driver exit code, use pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() before
pm_runtime_put_sync() if pm_runtime_use_autosuspend() has been
set.

The definition of i2c_msg says that
"If this is the last message in a group, it is followed by a STOP.
Otherwise it is followed by the next @i2c_msg transaction segment,
beginning with a (repeated) START"
So the expectation is that there is no 'STOP' bit inbetween individual
i2c_msg segments with repeated 'START'. Adding the support for the same.
This is required for some clients like touchscreen which keeps
incrementing counts across individual transfers and 'STOP' bit inbetween
resets the counter, which is not required.
This patch adds the support in non-dma mode.

QUP from version 2.1.1 onwards, supports a new format of
i2c command tags. Tag codes instructs the controller to
perform a operation like read/write. This new tagging version
supports bam dma and transfers of more than 256 bytes without 'stop'
in between. Adding the support for the same.
For each block a data_write/read tag and data_len tag is added to
the output fifo. For the final block of data write_stop/read_stop
tag is used.

qup_wait_writeready waits only on a output fifo empty event.
Change the same function to accept the event and data length
to wait as parameters. This way the same function can be used for
timeouts in other places as well.

This driver allows an I2C bus to switch between multiple masters. This
is not hot-switching because connected I2C slaves will be
re-instantiated. It is meant to select the best I2C core at runtime once
the task is known. Example: Prefer i2c-gpio over another I2C core
because of HW errata affecting your use case.

The I2C bus names are supposed to be stable as they can be used by
userspace to uniquely identify a specific I2C bus. So restore the
original names for all legacy (pre-SB800) devices.
For SB800 devices and later, improve the names. "SDA" refers to the
serial data pin of each SMBus port, it's an implementation detail the
user doesn't need to know. Use "port" instead, which is easier to
understand.

This is effectively reapplies the commit b0898fdaff ("i2c: designware-pci: use
IRQF_COND_SUSPEND flag") after the commit d80d134182 ("i2c: designware: Move
common probe code into i2c_dw_probe()"). Original message as follows.
The mentioned flag fixes a warning on Intel Edison board since one of the I2C
controller shares IRQ line with watchdog timer.

We need a single mutex for all 4 shared SMBus ports on the SB800. A
per-port mutex doesn't protect us from concurrent access.
In theory the mutex should be per PCI device, however in practice we
know that there's only ever a single instance of the device in a given
system so we can use a global.
Also take the mutex during initialization, as first port may be already
in use when second port is initialized.

In i2c_imx_dma_xfer(), when dmaengine_submit() returns error,
the context goto label err_submit and then return. However, the
memory allocated for txdesc has not been freed yet, which

The current driver uses input clock source frequency to calculate
values for [SS|FS]_[HC|LC] registers. However, when booting ACPI, we do not
currently have a good way to provide the frequency information.
Instead, we can leverage the SSCN and FFCN ACPI methods, which can be used
to directly provide these values. So, the clock information should
no longer be required during probing.
However, since clk can be invalid, additional checks must be done where
we are making use of it.

The adapter device is a logical device. Because of that, it already uses
pm_runtime_no_callbacks() in the core. To ensure proper propagation from
the children (i2c devices) to the parent of the adapter (the HW device),
make sure RuntimePM is enabled in any case.

Set the i2c_adapter retries field to a sensible value. This allows the i2c core
to retry master_xfer() when it returns -EAGAIN. Currently the i2c-designware
driver returns -EAGAIN only on Tx arbitration failure (DW_IC_TX_ARB_LOST).

Broadcoms DSL, CM (cable modem)and STB I2C core implementation have
8 data in/out registers that can transfer 8 bytes or 32 bytes max.
Cable and DSL "Peripheral" i2c cores use single byte per data
register and the STB can use 4 byte per data register transfer.
Adding support to take care of this difference. Accordingly added
the compatible string for SoCs using the "Peripheral" I2C block.

For mt8173 platform with auto restart support, when doing i2c multi
transfer in high speed, we should ignore the first restart irq after
the master code, otherwise the first transfer will be discarded.

In our former i2c driver, i2c clk is enabled and disabled in
xfer function, which contributes to power saving. However,
the clk enable process brings a busy wait delay until the core
is stable. As a result, the performance is sacrificed.
To weigh the power consumption and i2c bus performance, runtime
pm is the good solution for it. The clk is enabled when a i2c
transfer starts, and disabled after a specifically defined delay.
If CONFIG_PM is disabled the net result of this patch is that the
clock is never disabled.
Without the patch the test case (many eeprom reads) executes with approx:
real 1m7.735s
user 0m0.488s
sys 0m20.040s
With the patch the same test case (many eeprom reads) executes with approx:
real 0m54.241s
user 0m0.440s

During driver probe, i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() must come before
i2c_add_numbered_adapter(), because the get/set_scl() functions
are assigned in i2c_register_adapter() under the conditon that bus
recover_info are initialized. Otherwise, get/set_scl() function
pointers never get assigned.
In such case, when i2c_generic_gpio_recovery() is used for bus recovery,
there will be kernel crash because bri->set_scl is NULL.
The solution to this bug is moving i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() before
i2c_register_adapter().

In version 3.3 of the IP when transaction halt is set, an interrupt
will be generated after each byte of a transfer instead of after
every transfer but before the stop bit.
Due to this behaviour we have to be careful that every time we
release the transaction halt we have to re-enable it straight away
so that we only process a single byte, not doing so will result in
all remaining bytes been processed and a stop bit being issued,
which will prevent us having a repeated start.
This change will have no effect on earlier versions of the IP.

Master halt is issued after each byte of a transaction is processed in
IP version 3.3.
Master halt will stall the bus by holding the SCK line low until the
halt bit in the scb_general_control is cleared.
After the last byte of a transfer is processed we can use the Master
Halt interrupt to facilitate a repeated start transfer without
issuing a stop bit.

Stop Detected interrupt is triggered when a Stop bit is detected on
the bus, which indicates the end of the current transfer.
When the end of a transfer is indicated by the Stop Detected interrupt,
drain the FIFO and signal completion for the transaction.

Now that we are using the transaction halt interrupt to safely control
repeated start transfers, we no longer need to handle the fifo
emptying interrupts.
Handling this interrupt along with Transaction Halt interrupt can
cause erratic behaviour.

This commit adds support for the I2C_M_IGNORE_NAK protocol
modification.
Such behaviour can only be implemented in atomic mode. So, if a
transaction contains a message with such flag the drivers
switches to atomic mode. The implementation consists simply in
treating NAKs as ACKs.

When we also are I2C slave, we need to disable runtime PM because the
address detection mechanism needs to be active all the time. However, we
can reenable runtime PM once the slave instance was unregistered. So,
use pm_runtime_get_sync/put to achieve this, since it has proper
refcounting. pm_runtime_allow/forbid is like a global knob controllable
from userspace which is unsuitable here.

The Sigma Designs variant of this controller has the ability to generate
interrupts. This is controlled using two additional registers, oddly
enough overlapping with the defined but unused HDSTATIM.
This patch adds support for using this feature instead of busy-looping
if an IRQ is specified.

The BYTECNT register holds the transfer size minus one. Setting it to
the correct value removes the need for a dummy read/write at the end of
each transfer. As zero-length transfers are not supported, do not
advertise I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_QUICK.
In other words, this patch makes the driver transfer the number of bytes
requested unless this is zero, which is not supported by the hardware
and is thus refused.

Sigma Designs chips use a variant of this controller with the following
differences:
- The BUSY bit in the STATUS register is inverted
- Bit 8 of the CONFIG register must be set
- The controller can generate interrupts
This patch adds support for the first two of these. It also calculates
and sets the correct clock divisor if a clk is provided. The bus
frequency is optionally speficied in the device tree node.

driver. Bail out with the appropriate error message in such a case.
It would make it easier to find the root cause of failure.

The probe function is a little bit messy, something here, something
there. Rework it so that there is some order: first init the private
structure, then the adapter, then do HW init. This also allows us to
remove the device argument of the clock calculation function, because it
now can be deduced from the private structure. Also, shorten some lines
where possible. This is a preparation for further refactoring.

On an hardware shared I2C bus (certain Intel Baytrail SoC platforms) the
runtime PM disable depth keeps increasing over repeated modprobe/rmmod
cycle because pm_runtime_disable() is called without checking should it
be disabled already because of bus sharing.
This hasn't made any other harm than dev->power.disable_depth keeps
increasing but keep it sync by calling pm_runtime_disable() only when
runtime PM is not disabled.

Because of some hardware limitation, AMD I2C controller can't
trigger pending interrupt if interrupt status has been changed
after clearing interrupt status bits. Then, I2C will lost
interrupt and IO timeout.
According to hardware design, this patch implements a workaround
to disable i2c controller interrupt and re-enable i2c interrupt
before exiting ISR.
To reduce the performance impacts on other vendors, use unlikely
function to check flag in ISR.

During driver probe, i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() must come before
i2c_add_numbered_adapter(), because the get/set_scl() functions
are assigned in i2c_register_adapter() under the conditon that bus
recover_info are initialized. Otherwise, get/set_scl() function
pointers never get assigned.
In such case, when i2c_generic_gpio_recovery() is used for bus recovery,
there will be kernel crash because bri->set_scl is NULL.
The solution to this bug is moving i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() before
i2c_register_adapter().

With ACPI _DSD (introduced in ACPI v5.1) it is now possible to pass device
configuration information from ACPI in addition to DT. In order to support
this, convert the driver to use the unified device property accessors
instead of DT specific.
Change to ordering a bit so that we first try platform data and if that's
not available look from device properties. ACPI *CNT methods are then used
as last resort to override everything else.

For platform with auto restart support, between every transfer,
i2c controller will trigger an interrupt and SW need to handle
it to start new transfer. When doing write-then-read transfer,
instead of restart mechanism, using WRRD mode to have controller
send both transfer in one request to reduce latency.

Currently the clocks are enabled at probe and disabled at remove.
Which keeps the clocks enabled even if no transaction is going on.
This patch enables the clocks at the start of transfer and disables
after it.
Also adapts to runtime pm.
converts dev pm to const to silence a checkpatch warning.

I2C controller used in Keystone SoC has an undocumented peculiarity which
results in SDA-SCL margins being dependent on module clock. Driving high
capacity bus near its limits can result in STOP condition sometimes being
understood as REPEATED-START by slaves (or NACK instead of ACK, etc...).
Driving the module with higher clocks increases the margin between SDA and SCL
transitions, making the operations with higher bus rates more robust. Therefore,
target the module clock to 12MHz instead of 7MHz, still staying within
the specification limits.
Before the change STOP timing looked like this on 400kHz:

While only point (1) signals STOP, point (2) could be incorrectly recognized as
repeated-START (almost no margin between SDA and SCL transitions).
After the change there is at least 600ns margin measured between SCL fall and

According to the datasheets the n factor for dividing the tclk is
2 to the power n on Allwinner SoCs, not 2 to the power n + 1 as it is
on other mv64xxx implementations.
I've contacted Allwinner about this and they have confirmed that the
datasheet is correct.
This commit fixes the clk-divider calculations for Allwinner SoCs
accordingly.

This patch adds support for port names for the SB800 chipset.
Since the chipset supports a multiplexed main SMBus controller, adding
the channel name to the adapter name is necessary to differentiate the
ports better (for example in sensors output).

The SB800 chipset supports a multiplexed main SMBus controller with
four ports. The multiplexed ports share the same SMBus address and
register set. The port is selected by bits 2:1 of the smb_en register
(0x2C).
Only one port can be active at any point in time therefore a mutex is
needed in order to synchronize access.
Additionally, the commit avoids requesting and releasing the SMBus base
address index region on every multiplexed transfer by moving the
request_region call into piix4_probe.
Tested on HP ProLiant MicroServer G7 N54L (where this patch adds
support to access sensor data from the w83795adg).

The SB800 chipset supports a multiplexed main SMBus controller with
four ports. Therefore the static variable piix4_main_adapter is
converted into a piix4_main_adapters array that can hold one
i2c_adapter for each multiplexed port.
The auxiliary adapter remains unchanged since it represents the second
(not multiplexed) SMBus controller on the SB800 chipset.

If we don't clear START generation as soon as possible, it may cause
another message to be generated, e.g. when receiving NACK in address
phase. To keep the race window as small as possible, we clear it right
at the beginning of the interrupt. We don't need any checks since we
always want to stop START and STOP generation on the next occasion after
we started it.
This patch improves the situation but sadly does not completely fix it.
It is still to be researched if we can do better given this HW design.

Setting up new messages was done in process context while handling a
message was in interrupt context. Because of the HW design, this IP core
is sensitive to timing, so the context switches were too expensive. Move
this setup to interrupt context as well.
In my test setup, this fixed the occasional 'data byte sent twice' issue
which a number of people have seen. It also fixes to send REP_START
after a read message which was wrongly send as a STOP + START sequence
before.

After making sure to reinit the HW and clear interrupts in the timeout
case, we know that interrupts are always disabled in the sections
protected by the spinlock. Thus, we can simply remove it which is a
preparation for further refactoring. While here, rename the timeout
variable to time_left which is way more readable.

We don't need to init HW before every transfer since we know the HW
state then. HW init at probe time is enough. While here, add setting the
clock register which belongs to init HW. Also, set MDBS bit since not
setting it is prohibited according to the manual.

When calculating the bus speed, the clock should be on, of course. Most
bootloaders left them on, so this went unnoticed so far.
Move the ioremapping out of this clock-enabled-block and prepare for
adding hw initialization there, too.

In some cases, we could start a new i2c transfer with the RXRDY flag
set. It is not a clean state and it leads to print annoying error
messages even if there no real issue. The cause is only having garbage
data in the Receive Holding Register because of a weird behavior of the
RXRDY flag.

Although I2C mux devices are easily enumerated using ACPI (_HID/_CID or
device property compatible string match), enumerating I2C client devices
connected through an I2C mux needs a little extra work.
This change implements a method for describing an I2C device hierarchy that
includes mux devices by using an ACPI Device() for each mux channel along
with an _ADR to set the channel number for the device. See
Documentation/acpi/i2c-muxes.txt for a simple example.
To make this work the ismt, i801, and designware pci/platform devs now
share an ACPI companion with their I2C adapter dev similar to how it's done
in OF. This is done on the assumption that power management functions will
not be called directly on the I2C dev that is sharing the ACPI node.

In prima2 and atlas7, due to some hardware design issue. we
need to adjust the divider ratio a little according to i2c
bus frequency ranges.
Since i2c is open drain interface that allows the slave to
stall the transaction by holding the SCL line at '0', the RTL
implementation is waiting for SCL feedback from the pin after
setting it to High-Z ('1'). This wait adds to the high-time
interval counter few cycles of the input synchronization
(depending on the SCL_FILTER_REG field), and also the time it
takes for the board pull-up resistor to rise the SCL line.
For slow SCL settings these additions are negligible, but they
start to affect the speed when clock is set to faster frequencies.
This patch is based on the actual tests, and it makes SCL more
accurate.

Implement bus recovery methods for i2c-imx so we can recover from
situations where SCL/SDA are stuck low.
Once i2c bus SCL/SDA are stuck low during transfer, config the i2c
pinctrl to gpio mode by calling pinctrl sleep set function, and then
use GPIO to emulate the i2c protocol to send nine dummy clock to recover
i2c device. After recovery, set i2c pinctrl to default group setting.

The patch reverts commit a445900c90 (i2c: designware: Add support for
AMD I2C controller). It never worked anyhow because it did not register
a proper clkdev.
Since kernel 4.1 starts to support APD, there is no need to get freq
from id->driver_data for AMD0010. clkdev is supposed to be already
registered in APD.
So, revert old design and make AMD0010 looks like other ones.

In some cases a NACK interrupt may be pending in the Status Register (SR)
as a result of a previous transfer. However at91_do_twi_transfer() did not
read the SR to clear pending interruptions before starting a new transfer.
Hence a NACK interrupt rose as soon as it was enabled again at the I2C
controller level, resulting in a wrong sequence of operations and strange
patterns of behaviour on the I2C bus, such as a clock stretch followed by
a restart of the transfer.
This first issue occurred with both DMA and PIO write transfers.
Also when a NACK error was detected during a PIO write transfer, the
interrupt handler used to wrongly start a new transfer by writing into the
Transmit Holding Register (THR). Then the I2C slave was likely to reply
with a second NACK.
This second issue is fixed in atmel_twi_interrupt() by handling the TXRDY
status bit only if both the TXCOMP and NACK status bits are cleared.
Tested with a at24 eeprom on sama5d36ek board running a linux-4.1-at91
kernel image. Adapted to linux-next.

Commit ("i2c: designware: Rename platform driver probe and PM
functions") introduced "'dw_i2c_plat_prepare' undeclared here" and
"'dw_i2c_plat_complete' undeclared here" build errors when
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is not set.
Fix this by renaming NULL defined dw_i2c_prepare and dw_i2c_complete PM
hooks to dw_i2c_plat_prepare and dw_i2c_plat_complete since this was
obviously missing from the commit.

Commit 00d8689b85 ("i2c: mv64xxx: rework offload support to fix
several problems") completely reworked the offload support, but left a
debugging-related "return false" at the beginning of the
mv64xxx_i2c_can_offload() function. This has the unfortunate consequence
that offloading is in fact never used, which wasn't really the
intention.
This commit fixes that problem by removing the bogus "return false".

Since commit 4baadb9e05 ("ARM: shmobile: r8a7778: remove obsolete

The i2c-au1550 driver has to program various setup and hold times
for the sda/scl signals by hand. The current values seem to be
working best when the driver is supplied with 50MHz, however on the
DB1300 board 48MHz is the closest we can get to it, and the timings
are a bit too tight for that, leading to the last bit of a transmission
sometimes being swallowed. This manifests itself in wrong readings
of the ne1619 sensor and inability to configure the wm8731 i2s codec.
With the relaxed timings, both the sensor and the i2s codec can now
be accessed more reliably over a wider range of I2C block input
frequencies.
Verified on DB1200, DB1300 and DB1550 boards.

According to "KeyStone Architecture Inter-IC Control Bus User Guide", fixed
additive part of frequency divisors (referred as "d" in the code and datasheet)
always equals to 6, independent of module clock prescaler.

master clock frequency = ----------------------
(ICCL + 6) + (ICCH + 6)
It was not the case with original Davinci IP. Introduce new compatible property
"ti,keystone-i2c", which triggers special handling in the driver.
Without this change Keystone-based systems (having 204.8MHz input clock) choose
prescaler 29 (PSC=28). Using d=5 in this case leads to bus bitrate ~353kHz
instead of requested 400kHz. After correction, assuming d=6 bus rate is ~392kHz.
This gives ~11% transfer rate increase.

There is no need to repeat the work that is already done in the PCI driver
core. Remove suspend and resume callbacks.
Note that there is no more calls performed to enable or disable a PCI
device during suspend-resume cycle. Nowadays they seems to be
superfluous. Someone can read more in [1].

The way we currently scan I2C devices behind an I2C host controller does not
work in cases where the I2C device in question is not declared directly below
the host controller ACPI node.
This is perfectly legal according the ACPI 6.0 specification and some existing
systems are doing this.
To be able to enumerate all devices which are connected to a certain I2C host
controller we need to rework the current I2C scanning routine a bit. Instead of
scanning directly below the host controller we scan the whole ACPI namespace
for present devices with valid I2cSerialBus() connection pointing to the host
controller in question.

ACPI SSCN/FMCN methods were originally added because then the platform can
provide the most accurate HCNT/LCNT values to the driver. However, this
seems not to be true for Dell Inspiron 7348 where using these causes the
touchpad to fail in boot:
i2c_hid i2c-DLL0675:00: failed to retrieve report from device.
i2c_designware INT3433:00: i2c_dw_handle_tx_abort: lost arbitration
i2c_hid i2c-DLL0675:00: failed to retrieve report from device.
i2c_designware INT3433:00: controller timed out
The values received from ACPI are (in fast mode):
HCNT: 72
LCNT: 160
this translates to following timings (input clock is 100MHz on Broadwell):
tHIGH: 720 ns (spec min 600 ns)
tLOW: 1600 ns (spec min 1300 ns)
Bus period: 2920 ns (assuming 300 ns tf and tr)
Bus speed: 342.5 kHz
Both tHIGH and tLOW are within the I2C specification.
The calculated values when ACPI parameters are not used are (in fast mode):
HCNT: 87
LCNT: 159
which translates to:
tHIGH: 870 ns (spec min 600 ns)
tLOW: 1590 ns (spec min 1300 ns)
Bus period 3060 ns (assuming 300 ns tf and tr)
Bus speed 326.8 kHz
These values are also within the I2C specification.
Since both ACPI and calculated values meet the I2C specification timing
requirements it is hard to say why the touchpad does not function properly
with the ACPI values except that the bus speed is higher in this case (but
still well below the max 400kHz).
Solve this by adding DMI quirk to the driver that disables using ACPI
parameters on this particulare machine.

There is some code duplication in i2c-designware-platdrv and
i2c-designware-pcidrv probe functions. What is even worse that duplication
requires i2c_dw_xfer(), i2c_dw_func() and i2c_dw_isr() i2c-designware-core
functions to be exported.
Therefore move common code into new i2c_dw_probe() and make functions above
local to i2c-designware-core.
While merging the code patch does following functional changes:
- I2C Adapter name will be "Synopsys DesignWare I2C adapter". Previously it
was used for platform and ACPI devices but PCI device used
"i2c-designware-pci".
- Using device name for interrupt name. Previous it was platform device name,
ACPI device name or "i2c-designware-pci".
- Error code from devm_request_irq() and i2c_add_numbered_adapter() will be
printed in case of error.

Device must not generate interrupts before registering the interrupt
handler so move i2c_dw_disable_int() before requesting it.
There are no known issues with this. The code has been here since commit

There is no need to clear interrupts in i2c_dw_pci_probe() since only place
where interrupts are unmasked is i2c_dw_xfer_init() and there interrupts
are always cleared after commit 2a2d95e9d6 ("i2c: designware: always
clear interrupts before enabling them").
This allows to cleanup the code and replace i2c_dw_clear_int() in
i2c_dw_xfer_init() by direct register read as there are no other callers.

A change of return status was introduced in commit 3fffd12839
("i2c: allow specifying separate wakeup interrupt in device tree")
The commit prevents the defer status being passed up the call stack
appropriately when dev_pm_domain_attach returns -EPROBE_DEFER.

The requested bit rate can be outside the range supported by the driver.
The maximum bit rate this driver supports at the moment is 400Khz.
If the requested bit rate is larger than the maximum supported by the
driver, set the bitrate to the maximum supported before bitrate_khz is
calculated.
Maximum speed supported by the driver can be increased to 1Mhz by
adding support for "fast plus mode" in the future.

Currently, after determining the minimum value for the High period
(TCKH) the remainder of the internal clock pulses is set as the Low
period (TCKL). This causes the i2c clock duty cycle to be much less
than 50%.
Modify the starting position to TCKH and TCKL at 50% of the internal
clock, and adjusts the TCKH and TCKL values from there should the
minimum value for TCKL not be met. This results in duty cycles closer
to 50%.

The code to read from the master read fifo, and write to the master
write fifo, checks a bit in an SCB register before every byte to
ensure that the fifo is not full (write fifo) or empty (read fifo).
Due to clock domain crossing inside the SCB block the updated value
of this bit is only visible after 2 cycles.
The scb_wr_rd_fence() function does 2 dummy writes (to the read-only
revision register), and it's called before reading from or writing to the
fifos to ensure that subsequent reads of the fifo status bits do not read
stale values.
As the 2 dummy writes are required in all versions of the ip, the version
check is dropped.

If we don't clear START generation as soon as possible, it may cause
another message to be generated. To keep the race window as small as
possible, we clear it right at the beginning of the interrupt. We don't
need checking since we always want to stop START and STOP generation on
the next occasion after we started it.
This patch improves the situation but sadly does not completely fix it.
It is still to be researched if we can do better given this HW design.

Setting up new messages was done in process context while handling a
message was in interrupt context. Because of the HW design, this IP core
is sensitive to timing, so the context switches were too expensive. Move
this setup to interrupt context as well.
In my test setup, this fixed the occasional 'data byte sent twice' issue
which a number of people have seen. It also fixes to send REP_START
after a read message which was wrongly send as a STOP + START sequence
before.

We make sure to reinit the HW in the timeout case; then we know that
interrupts are always disabled in the sections protected by the
spinlock. Thus, we can simply remove it which is a preparation for
further refactoring. While here, rename the timeout variable to
time_left which is way more readable.

We don't need to init HW before every transfer since we know the HW
state then. HW init at probe time is enough. While here, add setting the
clock register which belongs to init HW. Also, set MDBS bit since not
setting it is prohibited according to the manual.

Instead of having each i2c driver individually parse device tree data in
case it or platform supports separate wakeup interrupt, and handle
enabling and disabling wakeup interrupts in their power management
routines, let's have i2c core do that for us.
Platforms wishing to specify separate wakeup interrupt for the device
should use named interrupt syntax in their DTSes:
interrupt-parent = <&intc1>;
interrupts = <5 0>, <6 0>;
interrupt-names = "irq", "wakeup";
This patch is inspired by work done by Vignesh R <vigneshr@ti.com> for
pixcir_i2c_ts driver.
Note that the original code tried to preserve any existing wakeup
settings from userspace but was not quite right in that regard:
it would preserve wakeup flag set by userspace upon driver rebinding;
but it would re-arm the wakeup flag if it was disabled by userspace.
We think that resetting the flag upon re-binding the driver is proper
behavior as the driver is responsible for setting up and handling
wakeups.

The ChromeOS EC tunnel I2C bus driver depend on CROS_EC_PROTO but
MFD_CROS_EC select CROS_EC_PROTO instead. Mixing select and depends
on is bad practice as it may lead to circular Kconfig dependencies.
Since the platform device that is matched with the I2C bus driver
is registered by the ChromeOS EC mfd driver, I2C_CROS_EC_TUNNEL
really depends on MFD_CROS_EC. And because this config option
selects CROS_EC_PROTO, that dependency is met as well. So make the
driver to depend on MFD_CROS_EC instead of CROS_EC_PROTO.

There are devices that need to handle block transactions
regardless of the capabilities exported by the adapter.
For performance reasons, they need to use i2c read blocks
if available, otherwise emulate the block transaction with word
or byte transactions.
Add support for a helper function that would read a data block
using the best transfer available: I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_READ_I2C_BLOCK,
I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_READ_WORD_DATA or I2C_FUNC_SMBUS_READ_BYTE_DATA.

Add support for the I2C controller found on several NXP devices
including LPC2xxx, LPC178x/7x and LPC18xx/43xx. The controller
is implemented as a state machine and the driver act upon the
state changes when the bus is accessed.
The I2C controller supports master/slave operation, bus
arbitration, programmable clock rate, and speeds up to 1 Mbit/s.

Based on i2c-mux-gpio driver, similarly the register-based mux
switch from one bus to another by setting a single register.
The register can be on PCIe bus, local bus, or any memory-mapped
address. The endianness of such register can be specified in device
tree if used, or in platform data.

We now have seperate address spaces for 10 bit and we-are-slave clients.
Update the sysfs device instantiation method to support these types by
accepting the address offsets that are assigned to the extra address
spaces. Update the documentation, too.

It is not enough to compare the plain address value, we also need to
check the flags enabling a different address space. E.g. it is valid to
have address 0x50 as a 7-bit address and 0x050 as 10-bit address on the
same bus. Same for addresses when we are the slave.

We want a separate address range for being an I2C slave. Add an offset
of 0x1000, so it can be combined with ten bit addresses as well. Add a
separate function to create the address value, we will need it later in
other places.

When occur i2c ack error, i2c controller generate two interrupts,
first is the ack error interrupt, then the complete interrupt.
i2c interrupt handler should keep the two interrupt value, and only
call complete() for the complete interrupt.

Starting from Intel Sunrisepoint (Skylake PCH) the iTCO watchdog resources
have been moved to reside under the i801 SMBus host controller whereas
previously they were under the LPC device.
In order to support the iTCO watchdog on newer PCHs we need to create the
platform device here in the SMBus driver and pass all known resources using
platform data.

of_find_i2c_adapter_by_node() call requires quite often missing
put_device(), and i2c_put_adapter() releases a device locked by
i2c_get_adapter() only. In general module_put(adapter->owner) and
put_device(dev) are not interchangeable.
This is a common error reproduction scenario as a result of the
misusage described above (for clearness this is run on iMX6 platform
with HDMI and I2C bus drivers compiled as kernel modules):

In addition to module_get()/module_put() add get_device()/put_device()
calls into i2c_get_adapter()/i2c_put_adapter() exported
interfaces. This is done to lock I2C bus device, if it is in use by a
client.

Tegra I2C controller required to configure the clock divisor
register inside controller to different value based on the clock
speed. The recommended clock divisor for the I2C controller for
standard/fast mode is 0x19 and for fast-mode plus is 0x10.
Add support to configure clock divisor register of I2C controller
based on bus clock rate.
This clock divisor is supported form T114 onwards.

Once the new configuration is set on the conifg register of
I2C controller, it is require to update the CONFIG_LOAD register
to transfer the new SW configuration to actual HW internal
registers that would be used in the actual logic.
It is like, SW is programming only shadow registers through
regular configuration and when these load_config bit fields
are set to 1, it causes the regular/shadows registers
configuration transferred to the HW internal active registers.
So SW has to set these bit fields at the end of all regular
registers configuration. And these config_load bits are HW
auto-clear bits. HW clears these bit fields once the register
configuration is moved to HW internal active registers. So SW
has to wait until these bits are auto-cleared before going
for any further programming
This mechanism is supported on T124 and after this SoCs.

Currently only one interrupt is serviced in the isr.
In case the multiple interrupts happen simultenously we service and ack
only one of them. Check for all the causes in the isr and service them.

Currently before every transfer the interrupts are disabled.
So incase the slave nacks in the middle of the transfer the
current transfer is not aborted. Upon enabling the interrupts
conditions like NACK , arbitration lost will not be masked.
Remove the disabling of the interrupts.

Currently before every transfer the controller is reinitialised.
We are already resetting the controller upon errors so upon every
transfer is a performance kill.

The xiic_process is a 154 line code that runs in isr context currently
move it to thread context. Also the name xiic_process suggests that the

Currently the interrupts are disabled at the start of the
isr and enabled at the end of the isr. Remove the same.
In case the slave device NACKs the transaction while in the isr
the transfer will continue and the NACK interrupt will arrive
only after the isr is serviced.

Normally i2c controller works as master, so slave addr is not needed, or
it will impact some slave device (eg. ST NFC chip) i2c accesses, because
it has the same i2c address with controller.
For example,
On the pxa1928 based platform, where PMIC (88pm860) is present @0x30
address on TWSI0 interface, and if we set 0x30 as a slave address in
pxa1928 TWSI0 module, all the transactions towards PMIC would go for toss.

During suspend there may still be some i2c access happening, as the
interrupt is shared between multiple drivers.
And if we don't keep i2c irq ON, there may be i2c access timeout if
i2c is in irq mode of operation.

At least on the AM335x, enabling OMAP_I2C_SYSTEST_ST_EN is not enough to
allow direct access to the SCL and SDA pins. In addition to ST_EN, we
need to set the TMODE to 0b11 (Loop back & SDA/SCL IO mode select).
Also, as the reset values of SCL_O and SDA_O are 0 (which means "drive
low level"), we need to set them to 1 (which means "high-impedance") to
avoid unwanted changes on the pins.
As a precaution, reset all these bits to their default values after
recovery is complete.

Using set_scl may be ineffective before calling the driver specific
prepare_recovery callback, which might change into a test mode. So
instead of setting SCL in i2c_generic_scl_recovery, move it to
i2c_generic_recovery (after the optional prepare_recovery).

The change removes redundant sysfs binary file boundary checks,
since this task is already done on caller side in fs/sysfs/file.c
Note, on file size overflow read() now returns 0, and this is a
correct and expected EOF notification according to POSIX.

Mark (and unmark) device nodes with the POPULATE flag as appropriate.
This is required to avoid multi probing when using I2C and device
overlays containing a mux.
This patch is also more careful with the release of the adapter device
which caused a deadlock with muxes, and does not break the build
on !OF since the node flag accessors are not defined then.

The driver calls pm_runtime_put() right before pm_runtime_disable() in its
->remove() hook to make sure clock is gated etc. However, it turns out that
pm_runtime_put() only calls ->idle() hook without actually suspending
anything. The following pm_runtime_disable() will prevent the driver from
suspending thus leaving it "active".
It is better to suspend the device synchronously to make sure it is
actually suspended before disabling runtime PM from it.
While there, undo call to pm_runtime_use_autosuspend().

payload_size is a 12 bit field in the HW register, so add a limit for
this size. That way we gracefully reject the message beforehand instead
of generating an OOPS while transferring. Verified using some older
Tegra2 documentation and a more recent Jetson TK1 board.

'commit 2637e5fd23 ("i2c: octeon: Fix i2c fail problem when a process is
terminated by a signal")' removed the wait_event_interruptible_timeout to
prevent half/mixed i2c messages from being sent/recievd but forgot to
drop the signal handling case in the return handling. This just removes
this dead code. While at it the return variable is adjusted to the type
expected.

There are several cases where current clock configuration algorithm produces
not optimal results:
- truncation in "clk" calculation leads to the fact that actual BUS frequency
will be always higher than spec except two exact module frequences 8MHz and
12MHz in the whole 7-12MHz range of permitted frequences
- driver configures SCL HIGH to LOW ratio always 1 to 1 and this doesn't work
well in 400kHz case, namely minimum time of LOW state (according to I2C Spec
2.1) 1.3us will not be fulfilled. HIGH to LOW ratio 1 to 2 would be more
approriate here.

Newly introduced quirks infrastructure doesn't work for the devices behind
MUXes because MUX's master_xfer() calls parent's master_xfer() directly
without checking the quirks. Instead of duplicating check code in MUX just
call __i2c_transfer() instead. This has a side effect on tracing (messages
will appear on both MUX bus and parent bus), but maybe that's not bad at
the end.

The datasheet mentions on page 31 that the bits 10-31 must be read as
don't care and written as 0.

datasheet says read as don't care). We clear the bits with a bitmask to

The MFD driver should only have the logic to instantiate its child devices
and setup any shared resources that will be used by the subdevices drivers.
The cros_ec MFD is more complex than expected since it also has helpers to
communicate with the EC. So the driver will only get more bigger as other
protocols are supported in the future. So move the communication protocol
helpers to its own driver as drivers/platform/chrome/cros_ec_proto.c.

Commit 1b84f2a4cd ("mfd: cros_ec: Use fixed size arrays to transfer
data with the EC") modified the struct cros_ec_command fields to not
use pointers for the input and output buffers and use fixed length
arrays instead.
This change was made because the cros_ec ioctl API uses that struct
cros_ec_command to allow user-space to send commands to the EC and
to get data from the EC. So using pointers made the API not 64-bit
safe. Unfortunately this approach was not flexible enough for all
the use-cases since there may be a need to send larger commands
on newer versions of the EC command protocol.
So to avoid to choose a constant length that it may be too big for
most commands and thus wasting memory and CPU cycles on copy from
and to user-space or having a size that is too small for some big
commands, use a zero-length array that is both 64-bit safe and
flexible. The same buffer is used for both output and input data
so the maximum of these values should be used to allocate it.

Sending a message to own address locks the controller up in very bizarre state,
it behaves as slave even if MDR register clearly states master. The controller
remains in this state until reset. To avoid unnecessary timeouts simply avoid
sending to own address. The controller cannot do this any way. Also, do not
enable AAS IRQ, as the slave mode is not supported by the driver and the only
possibility to trigger this IRQ is to send to own address.

When FIFOs are available and enabled, the driver now configures the Atmel
eXtended DMA Controller to perform word accesses instead of byte accesses
when possible.
The actual access width depends on the size of the buffer to transmit.
To enable FIFO support the "atmel,fifo-size" property must be set properly
in the I2C controller node of the device tree.

The alternative command mode was introduced to simplify the transmission
of STOP conditions and to solve timing and latency issues around them.
This mode relies on a new register, the Alternative Command Register,
which must be set at the same time as the Master Mode Register. This new
register was designed to allow simple setup of basic combined transactions
built from up to two unitary transactions.
Indeed, the ACR is split into two areas, which describe one unitary
transaction each. Each area is filled with Data Length 8bit counter, a
Direction and a PEC Request bit. The PEC bit is only used in SMBus mode
and is not supported by this driver yet. Also when using alternative
command mode, the MREAD bit from the Master Mode Register is ignored.
Instead the Direction bits from ACR are used to setup the direction, read
or write, of each unitary transaction. Finally the 8bit counters must
filled with the data length of their respective transaction. Then if only
one transaction is to be used, the data length of the second one must be
set to zero. At the moment, this driver uses only the first transaction.
In addition to MMR and ACR, the Control Register also need to be written
to enable the alternative command mode. That's the purpose of its ACMEN
bit, which stands for Alternative Command Mode Enable.
Note that the alternative command mode is compatible with the use of the
Internal Address Register. So combined transactions for eeprom read are
actually implemented with the Internal Address Register. This register is
written with up to 3 bytes, which are the internal address sent to the
slave through the first write transaction. Then the first area of the ACR
describe the write transaction to follow, which carries the data to be
read from the eeprom. The second area of the ACR is not used so its Data
Length 8bit counter is cleared.
For each byte sent or received by the device, the Data Length 8bit counter
is decremented. When it reaches 0, a STOP condition is automatically sent.

For TX transactions, the TXCOMP bit in the Status Register is cleared
when the first data is written into the Transmit Holding Register.
In the lines from at91_do_twi_transfer():
at91_twi_write_data_dma(dev);
at91_twi_write(dev, AT91_TWI_IER, AT91_TWI_TXCOMP);
the TXCOMP interrupt may be enabled before the DMA controller has
actually started to write into the THR. In such a case, the TXCOMP bit
is still set into the Status Register so the interrupt is triggered
immediately. The driver understands that a transaction completion has
occurred but this transaction hasn't started yet. Hence the TXCOMP
interrupt is no longer enabled by at91_do_twi_transfer() but instead
by at91_twi_write_data_dma_callback().
Also, the TXCOMP bit in the Status Register in not a clear on read flag
but a snapshot of the transmission state at the time the Status
Register is read.
When a NACK error is dectected by the I2C controller, the TXCOMP, NACK
and TXRDY bits are set together to 1 in the SR. If enabled, the TXCOMP
interrupt is triggered at the same time. Also setting the TXRDY to 1
triggers the DMA controller to write the next data into the THR. Such
a write resets the TXCOMP bit to 0 in the SR. So depending on when the
interrupt handler reads the SR, it may fail to detect the NACK error
if it relies on the TXCOMP bit. The NACK bit and its interrupt should
be used instead.
For RX transactions, the TXCOMP bit in the Status Register is cleared
when the START bit is set into the Control Register. However to unify
the management of the TXCOMP bit when the DMA controller is used, the
TXCOMP interrupt is now enabled by the DMA callbacks for both TX and
RX transfers.

Commit 1fc2fe204c ("i2c: designware: Add runtime PM hooks") adds
runtime pm support using the same ops for system pm and runtime pm.
When suspend to ram, the i2c host may have been runtime suspended, thus
i2c_dw_disable() hangs.
Previously, I fixed this issue by separating ops for system pm and
runtime pm, then in the system suspend/resume path, runtime pm apis are
used to ensure the device is at correct state.
But as Mika Westerberg pointed out: it sounds a bit silly to resume the
device just because you want to call i2c_dw_disable() for it before
suspending again. He then suggested an elegant solution which keeps the
device runtime suspended during system suspend with the help of
'dev->power.direct_complete'. This patch adopted this solution, and in
fact Mika provided the main code.

Use recovery framework and implement bus recovery using "Bus Monitor" register.
Tests show that shortening SDA to GND results in "completion" timeout with
"BUSY" bit still set, so initiate recovery in this case.

As of now i2c-parport was connecting to all the available parallel
ports. Lets limit that to maximum of 4 instances and at the same time
define which instance connects to which parallel port.

Following what DT already does. If the device does not have ACPI Interrupt
resource but instead it has one or more GpioInt resources listed below it,
we take the first GpioInt resource, convert it to suitable Linux IRQ number
and pass it to the driver instead.
This makes drivers simpler because the don't need to care about GPIOs at
all if only thing they need is interrupt.

This adds calls to pinctrl subsystem in order to switch pin states
on suspend/resume if you provide a "sleep" state in DT.
If no "sleep" state is provided in the DT, these calls turn
to NOPs, so we don't need error checking here.

The GPIO subsystem provides dummy GPIO consumer functions if GPIOLIB is
not enabled. Hence drivers that depend on GPIOLIB, but use GPIO consumer
functionality only, can still be compiled if GPIOLIB is not enabled.
Relax the dependency on GPIOLIB if COMPILE_TEST is enabled, where
appropriate.

Although unlikely, it is remotely possible for an i2c command to need
more than 200ms complete. Unlike smbus, i2c devices can clock stretch
for an unspecified amount of time. The longest time I've seen
specified for a device is 144ms (bq27541 battery gas), but one could
imagine a device taking a bit slower. 1 second "ought to be enough for
anyone."
The above is not the only justifcation for going above 200ms for a
timeout, though. It turns out that if you've got a large number of
printks going out to a serial console, interrupts on a CPU can be
disabled for hundreds of milliseconds. That's not a great situation to
be in to start with (maybe we should put a cap in vprintk_emit()) but
it's pretty annoying to start seeing unexplained i2c timeouts.
Note that to understand why we can timeout when printk has interrupts
disabled, you need to understand that on current Linux ARM kernels
interrupts are routed to a single CPU in a multicore system. Thus,
you can get:
1. CPU1 is running rk3x_i2c_xfer()
2. CPU0 calls vprintk_emit(), which disables all IRQs on CPU0.
3. I2C interrupt is ready but is set to only run on CPU0, where IRQs
are disabled.
4. CPU1 timeout expires. I2C interrupt is still ready, but CPU0 is
still sitting in the same vprintk_emit()
5. CPU1 sees that no interrupt happened in 200ms, so timeout.
A normal system shouldn't see i2c timeouts anyway, so increasing the
timeout should help people debugging without hurting other people
excessively.

Commit 523c5b8964 ("i2c: Remove support for legacy PM") removed the PM
ops from the bus type, which causes the pm operations on the s3c2410
adapter device to fail (-ENOSUPP in rpm_callback). The adapter device
doesn't get bound to a driver and as such can't have its own pm_runtime
callbacks. Previously this was fine as the bus callbacks would have been
used, but now this can cause devices which use PM runtime and are
attached over I2C to fail to resume.
This commit fixes this issue by marking all adapter devices with
pm_runtime_no_callbacks, since they can't have any.

master_xfer() method should return number of i2c messages transferred,
but on Rockchip we were usually returning just 1, which caused trouble
with users that actually check number of transferred messages vs.
checking for negative error codes.

Having a board where the I2C bus locks up occasionally made it clear
that the bus recovery in the i2c-davinci driver will only work on
some boards, because on regular boards, this will only toggle GPIO
lines that aren't muxed to the actual pins.
The I2C controller on SoCs like da850 (and da830), Keystone 2 has the
built-in capability to bit-bang its lines by using the ICPFUNC registers
of the i2c controller.
Implement the suggested procedure by toggling SCL and checking SDA using
the ICPFUNC registers of the I2C controller when present. Allow platforms
to indicate the presence of the ICPFUNC registers with a has_pfunc platform
data flag and add optional DT property "ti,has-pfunc" to indicate
the same in DT.

This patch converts Davinci I2C driver to use I2C bus recovery
infrastructure, introduced by commit 5f9296ba21 ("i2c: Add
bus recovery infrastructure").
The i2c_bus_recovery_info is configured for Davinci I2C adapter
only in case scl_pin is provided in platform data.
As the controller must be held in reset while doing so, the
recovery routine must re-init the controller. Since this was already
being done after each call to i2c_recover_bus, move those calls into
the recovery_prepare/unprepare routines and as well.

This patch changes type of input parameter for
prepare/unprepare_recovery() callbacks from struct i2c_bus_recovery_info
* to struct i2c_adapter *. This allows to simplify implementation of
these callbacks and avoid type conversations from i2c_bus_recovery_info
to i2c_adapter. The i2c_bus_recovery_info can be simply retrieved from
struct i2c_adapter which contains pointer on it. There are no users
currently, so this is safe to do.

Probe deferral is not an error case. It happens only when
the necessary dependencies are not there yet.
The driver core is already printing a message when a driver
requests probe deferral, so this can be traced in the logs
without these error prints.
This patch removes the error messages for these deferral cases.

wait_for_completion_timeout return 0 (timeout) or >=1 (completion) so the check
for >= 0 is always true and can be dropped implying that r==-EREMOTEIO and thus
the return of -EREMOTEIO can be done in the if (dev->buf_len) branch.
As wait_for_completion_timeout returns unsigned long not int, and int r is
exclusively used for wait_for_completion_timeout it is renamed and the type
changed to unsigned long.

After more discussion, brave users, and additional datasheet evaluation,
some API updates for the new I2C slave framework became imminent. The
slave events now get some easier to understand naming. Also, the event
handling has been simplified to only need a single call to the slave
callback when an action by the backend is required.

Make sure dynamic ids do not interfere with fixed ones and let them
start after the highest fixed id. This patch might cause different
bus-numbers than before for dynamic ids, however it fixes a bug. Assume:
- fixed id0 defers probe
- fixed id1 succeeds and registers a muxed bus with dynamic id
- muxed bus gets id0
- fixed id0 wants to probe again, but its fixed id is gone now
- fixed id0 probe fails
With this patch, the fixed ids are always reserved in the DT case.
For legacy board init, we already have a mechanism like this in
i2c_register_board_info().

Now that the ACPI companions of devices are represented by pointers
to struct fwnode_handle, it is not quite efficient to check whether
or not an ACPI companion of a device is present by evaluating the
ACPI_COMPANION() macro.
For this reason, introduce a special static inline routine for that,
has_acpi_companion(), and update the code to use it where applicable.

Now that we have struct fwnode_handle, we can use that to point to
ACPI companions from struct device objects instead of pointing to
struct acpi_device directly.
There are two benefits from that. First, the somewhat ugly and
hackish struct acpi_dev_node can be dropped and, second, the same
struct fwnode_handle pointer can be used in the future to point
to other (non-ACPI) firmware device node types.

For the 85xx platforms, the source clock for the i2c-mpc can change from
one SoC to another. This is documented in the AN2919 "Determining the
I2C Frequency Divider Ratio for SCL" by Freescale. Not taking this into
account can lead to the output SCL frequency to by off by an offset. It
was observed on the P2041 from the QorIQ family.
This patch fixes this problem by setting the prescaler value to the
appropriate value when required. The SoCs that required a different
prescaler than 1 are identified by reading out the SVR as discussed in

("i2c: core: Dispose OF IRQ mapping at client removal time")
Calling irq_dispose_mapping() will destroy the mapping and disassociate
the IRQ from the IRQ chip to which it belongs. Keeping it is OK, because
existent mappings are reused properly.
Also, this commit breaks drivers using devm* for IRQ management on
OF-based systems because devm* cleanup happens in device code, after
bus's remove() method returns.

Since 39b2bbe3d7 (gpio: add flags argument to gpiod_get*() functions)
which appeared in v3.17-rc1, the gpiod_get* functions take an additional
parameter that allows to specify direction and initial value for
outputs.
Also there is an *_optional variant that serves well here. The sematics
is slightly changed here by using it. Now if a reset gpio is specified
and getting hold on it fails, pca954x_probe fails, too.

Simplifies the code a bit and makes easier to disable PCI device on driver
detach by removing the pcim_pin_device() call in the future if needed.
Reason why i2c-i801.c doesn't ever call pci_disable_device() was because it
made some systems to hang during power-off. See commit d6fcb3b9cf

state is set already it means that subsequent pci_enable_device() calls do
practically nothing but monotonically increase struct pci_dev enable_cnt.

The struct cros_ec_command will be used as an ioctl() argument for the
API to control the ChromeOS EC from user-space. So the data structure
has to be 64-bit safe to make it compatible between 32 and 64 avoiding
the need for a compat ioctl interface. Since pointers are self-aligned
to different byte boundaries, use fixed size arrays instead of pointers
for transferring ingoing and outgoing data with the Embedded Controller.
Also, re-arrange struct members by decreasing alignment requirements to
reduce the needing padding size.

For, !HAVE_CLK the clk API returns a NULL cookie. Rework the
initialization code to handle that. If clk_get_rate() delivers 0, we use
the fallback mechanisms. The patch is pretty easy when ignoring white
space issues (git diff -b).

Add initial support to the Broadcom iProc I2C controller found in the
iProc family of SoCs.
The iProc I2C controller has separate internal TX and RX FIFOs, each has
a size of 64 bytes. The iProc I2C controller supports two bus speeds
including standard mode (100kHz) and fast mode (400kHz)

clock-frequency property is meant to control the bus frequency for i2c bus
drivers, but it was incorrectly used to specify i2c controller input clock
frequency.
Introduce new attribute, opencores,ip-clock-frequency, that specifies i2c
controller clock frequency and make clock-frequency attribute compatible
with other i2c drivers. Maintain backwards compatibility in case
opencores,ip-clock-frequency attribute is missing.

DMA read requests could miss proper termination, so two more bytes would
have been read via PIO overwriting the end of the buffer with wrong
data. Make DMA stop handling more readable while we are here.

Make the slave support depend on CONFIG_I2C_SLAVE. Otherwise it gets
included unconditionally, even when it is not needed.

IOSF_MBI depends on PCI, so we should not select it but depend on it.
This ensures also we compile on X86 only, other archs will break because
of an arch specific include. Also depend on ACPI since this driver uses
it.

Trying to register an I2C device asynchronously (via async_schedule() call)
results in an ugly warning from request_module() warning about potential
deadlock (because request_module tries to wait for async works to
complete). While we could try to switch to request_module_nowait(), other
buses, as well as I2C itself when not using device tree, do not try to load
modules, but rather rely on the standard infrastructure (udev) to execute
module loading, and we should be doing the same.

This patch implements an I2C bus sharing mechanism between the host and platform
hardware on select Intel BayTrail SoC platforms using the X-Powers AXP288 PMIC.
On these platforms access to the PMIC must be shared with platform hardware. The
hardware unit assumes full control of the I2C bus and the host must request
access through a special semaphore. Hardware control of the bus also makes it
necessary to disable runtime pm to avoid interfering with hardware transactions.

This patch solves deadlock between clock prepare mutex and regmap mutex reported
by Tomasz Figa in [1] by implementing solution from [2]: "always leave the clock
of the i2c controller in a prepared state".

On each i2c transfer handled by s3c24xx_i2c_xfer(), clk_prepare_enable() was
called, which calls clk_prepare() then clk_enable(). clk_prepare() takes
prepare_lock mutex before proceeding. Note that i2c transfer functions are
invoked from many places in kernel, typically with some other additional lock
held.
It may happen that function on CPU1 (e.g. regmap_update_bits()) has taken a
mutex (i.e. regmap lock mutex) then it attempts i2c communication in order to
proceed (so it needs to obtain clock related prepare_lock mutex during transfer
preparation stage due to clk_prepare() call). At the same time other task on
CPU0 wants to operate on clock (e.g. to (un)prepare clock for some other reason)
so it has taken prepare_lock mutex.

Implemented solution from [2] leaves i2c clock prepared. Preparation is done in
s3c24xx_i2c_probe() function. Without this patch, it is immediately unprepared
by clk_disable_unprepare() call. I've replaced this call with clk_disable() and
I've added clk_unprepare() call in s3c24xx_i2c_remove().
The s3c24xx_i2c_xfer() function now uses clk_enable() instead of
clk_prepare_enable() (and clk_disable() instead of clk_unprepare_disable()).

Add i2c-mux-idle-disconnect device tree property to PCA954x mux driver. The new
property forces the multiplexer to disconnect child buses in idle state. This is
used, for example, when there are several multiplexers on the same bus and the
devices on the underlying buses might have same I2C addresses.

readl/writel is too expensive especially on Cortex A9 w/ outer L2 cache.
This introduces i2c read/write delays on Marvell BG2/BG2Q SoCs when there
are heavy L2 cache maintenance operations at the same time.
The driver does not perform DMA, so it's safe to use the relaxed version.
From another side, the relaxed io accessor macros are available on all
architectures now, so we can use the relaxed versions instead.

ACPI specification allows I2C devices with multiple addresses. The current
implementation goes over all addresses and assigns the last one to the
device. This is typically not the primary address of the device.
Instead of doing that we assign the first address to the device and then
let the driver handle rest of the addresses as it wishes.

Cadence I2C controller has the following bugs:
- completion indication is not given to the driver at the end of
a read/receive transfer with HOLD bit set.
- Invalid read transaction are generated on the bus when HW timeout
condition occurs with HOLD bit set.
As a result of the above, if a set of messages to be transferred with
repeated start includes any message following a read message,
completion is never indicated and timeout occurs.
Hence a check is implemented to return -EOPNOTSUPP for such sequences.

On Rockchip I2C the controller drops SDA low slightly too soon to meet
the "repeated start" requirements.
>From my own experimentation over a number of rates:
- controller appears to drop SDA at .875x (7/8) programmed clk high.
- controller appears to keep SCL high for 2x programmed clk high.
The first rule isn't enough to meet tSU;STA requirements in
Standard-mode on the system I tested on. The second rule is probably
enough to meet tHD;STA requirements in nearly all cases (especially
after accounting for the first), but it doesn't hurt to account for it
anyway just in case.
Even though the repeated start requirement only need to be accounted
for during a small part of the transfer, we'll adjust the timings for
the whole transfer to meet it. I believe that adjusting the timings
in just the right place to switch things up for repeated start would
require several extra interrupts and that doesn't seem terribly worth
it.
With this change and worst case rise/fall times, I see 100kHz i2c
going to ~85kHz. With slightly optimized rise/fall (800ns / 50ns) I
see i2c going to ~89kHz. Fast-mode isn't affected much because
tSU;STA is shorter relative to tHD;STA there.
As part of this change we needed to account for the SDA falling time.
The specification indicates that this should be the same, but we'll
follow Designware's lead and add a binding. Note that we deviate from
Designware and assign the default SDA falling time to be the same as
the SCL falling time, which is incredibly likely.

The number of clock cycles to be written into the CLKDIV register
that determines the I2C clk high phase includes the rise time.
So to meet the timing requirements defined in the I2C specification
which defines the minimal time SCL has to be high, the rise time
has to taken into account. The same applies to the low phase with
falling time.
In my test on RK3288-Pink2 board, which is not an upstream board yet,
if external pull-up resistor is 4.7K, rise_ns is about 700ns.
So the measured high_ns is about 3900ns, which is less than 4000ns
(the minimum high_ns in I2C specification for Standard-mode).
To fix this bug min_low_ns should include fall time and min_high_ns
should include rise time.
This patch merged the patch from chromium project which can get the
rise and fall times for signals from the device tree. This allows us
to more accurately calculate timings. see:

The I2C controller sends a NACK to the slave when transfer size register
reaches zero, irrespective of the hold bit. So, in order to handle transfers
greater than 252 bytes, the transfer size register has to be maintained at a
value >= 1. This patch implements the same.
The interrupt status is cleared at the beginning of the isr instead of
the end, to avoid missing any interrupts.

There haven't been any I2C driver that use the legacy suspend/resume
callbacks for a while now and new drivers are supposed to use PM ops. So
remove support for legacy suspend/resume for I2C drivers.
Since there aren't any special bus specific things to do during
suspend/resume and since the PM core will automatically fallback directly to
using the device's PM ops if no bus PM ops are specified there is no need to
have any I2C bus PM ops.
