a264b981f2 net/fec: Don't let ndo_start_xmit return NETDEV_TX_BUSY without link
Don't test for having link and let hardware deal with this situation.

Without this patch I see a machine running an -rt patched Linux being
stuck in sch_direct_xmit when it looses link while there is still a
packet to be sent. In this case the fec_enet_start_xmit routine returned
NETDEV_TX_BUSY which makes the network stack reschedule the packet and
so sch_direct_xmit calls fec_enet_start_xmit again.
I failed to reproduce a complete hang without -rt, but I think the
problem exists there, too.

The driver uses dev_err when enabling of AER fails (e.g. PCIe AER is not

92e6457d4c tg3: Enable support for timesync gpio output
The PTP_CAPABLE tg3 devices have a gpio output that is toggled when the

Since the output is controlled via bits in the EAV_REF_CLCK_CTL

5137a2ee20 tg3: Allow NVRAM programming when interface is down
Previously, when the interface was brought down, the driver would set
the power state to D3hot. In D3hot, we don't have access to the NVRAM.
This patch removes the call to set the power state to PCI_D3hot in
close. A following patch will implement the shutdown handler to properly
set the D3hot state when the system is going down.

Doing the above means that the TG3_PHYFLG_IS_LOW_POWER should not be
checked to validate access to the NVRAM.

c1459356d9 tg3: Remove incorrect switch to aux power
During probe, the driver is incorrectly switching the power to Vaux on
the 5717 and later devices. At this point, we are in D0 state and
drawing maximum power. We also definitely have Vmain available. It
doesn't make sense to switch to Vaux since it has a lesser maximum power
draw and we might go over the limit. On a new system, we observe that
not all ports are recognized in some of the slots with this call in
place.

After this earlier commit to simplify probing:

    commit 4bd9b0fffb
cnic, bnx2x, bnx2: Simplify cnic probing.

we can now reliably receive netdev events and we can simplify the handling
of these events. We now remove the logic that tries to handle missed
NETDEV_REGISTER events.

This change will allow cleanup to be simplified in the next patch. We can
now rely on the play back of netdev events during
unregister_netdevice_notifier() to cleanup the structures.

fe6f700d6c net/mlx4_core: Respond to operation request by firmware
This commit adds new firmware command and new firmware event. The firmware
raises the MLX4_EVENT_TYPE_OP_REQUIRED event in order to signal the driver it
needs to perform an administrative operation throughout the MLX4_CMD_GET_OP_REQ
command. At the moment the supported operation is adding/removing multicast
entries which are used by the firmware for handling NCSI traffic in B0
steering mode.

Also, had to swap the order of mlx4_init_mcg_table() and
mlx4_init_eq_table() to make sure that driver will get events only after
resources are initialized to handle it.

2d4b646613 net/mlx4_en: Fix BlueFlame race
Fix a race between BlueFlame flow and stamping in post send flow.
Example:
SW: Build WQE 0 on the TX buffer, except the ownership bit
SW: Set ownership for WQE 0 on the TX buffer
SW: Ring doorbell for WQE 0
SW: Build WQE 1 on the TX buffer, except the ownership bit
SW: Set ownership for WQE 1 on the TX buffer
HW: Read WQE 0 and then WQE 1, before doorbell was rung/BF was done for WQE 1
HW: Produce CQEs for WQE 0 and WQE 1
SW: Process the CQEs, and stamp WQE 0 and WQE 1 accordingly (on the TX buffer)
SW: Copy WQE 1 from the TX buffer to the BF register - ALREADY STAMPED!
HW: CQE error with index 0xFFFF - the BF WQE's control segment is STAMPED,
so the BF index is 0xFFFF. Error: Invalid Opcode.
As a result QP enters the error state and no traffic can be sent.

Solution:
When stamping - do not stamp last completed wqe.

7e44892c1b igb: fix vlan filtering in promisc mode when not in VT mode
This patch fixes a VT mode check to make sure VLAN filters are disabled when

The problem with the previous check was that:

3ef672ab18 e1000e: ethtool unnecessarily takes device out of RPM suspend
A previous patch (commit e60b22c5b7 e1000e: fix accessing to suspended

device is taken out of RPM suspend only for those ethtool operations that

e0236ad9cd e1000e: Tx hang on I218 when linked at 100Half and slow response at 10Mbps
Tx hang is an unintended consequence of another workaround that is in the
EEPROM for an issue with the firmware at 10Mbps when K1 (a power mode of
the MAC-PHY interconnect) is enabled. The issue is resolved by setting
appropriate Tx re-transmission timeouts in the PHY and associated K1 entry
times in the MAC to allow enough transmissions to occur without triggering
a Tx hang. A similar change is needed when linked at 10Mbps to improve
latency.

24b41c972c e1000e: restore call to pci_clear_master()
In attempting to resolve a minor merge conflict, commit e5f2ef7ab4
(Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net) accidentally

Commit 4e0855dff0 (e1000e: fix pci-device enable-counter balance)
replaced a call to pci_disable_device() by one to pci_clear_master(). And then
commit 66148babe7 (e1000e: fix runtime power management transitions)
deleted a number of lines starting two lines following that call.

031916568a net: fec: workaround stop tx during errata ERR006358
If the ready bit in the transmit buffer descriptor (TxBD[R])
is previously detected as not set during a prior frame transmission,
then the ENET_TDAR[TDAR] bit is cleared at a later time, even if
additional TxBDs were added to the ring and the ENET_TDAR[TDAR]
bit is set. This results in frames not being transmitted until
there is a 0-to-1 transition on ENET_TDAR[TDAR].

Workarounds:
code can use the transmit frame interrupt flag (ENET_EIR[TXF])
as a method to detect whether the ENET has completed transmission
and the ENET_TDAR[TDAR] has been cleared. If ENET_TDAR[TDAR] is
detected as cleared when packets are queued and waiting for transmit,
then a write to the TDAR bit will restart TxBD processing.

This case main happen when loading is light. A ethernet package may
not send out utile next package put into tx queue.

How to test:

f1a26fdf59 pch_gbe: Add MinnowBoard support
The MinnowBoard uses an AR803x PHY with the PCH GBE which requires
special handling. Use the MinnowBoard PCI Subsystem ID to detect this
and add a pci_device_id.driver_data structure and functions to handle
platform setup.

The AR803x does not implement the RGMII 2ns TX clock delay in the trace
routing nor via strapping. Add a detection method for the board and the
PHY and enable the TX clock delay via the registers.

This PHY will hibernate without link for 10 seconds. Ensure the PHY is
awake for probe and then disable hibernation. A future improvement would
be to convert pch_gbe to using PHYLIB and making sure we can wake the
PHY at the necessary times rather than permanently disabling it.

4ea72445bd r8169: fix lockdep warning when removing interface
The work queue is initialised in rtl_open (when the interface goes up),
but canceled in rtl_remove_one (when the PCI device gets removed). If
the network interface is not brought up, then the work queue struct is
not initialised. When the device is removed, the attempt to cancel the
uninitialised work queue causes a lockdep warning.

This patch fixes the issue by moving cancel_work_sync to rtl_close (to
match rtl_open). (Note that rtl_close is also called via
unregister_netdev in rtl_remove_one.)

584ec43553 atl1e: unmap partially mapped skb on dma error and free skb
Ben Hutchings pointed out that my recent update to atl1e
in commit 352900b583
("atl1e: fix dma mapping warnings") was missing a bit of code.

Specifically it reset the hardware tx ring to its origional state when
we hit a dma error, but didn't unmap any exiting mappings from the
operation. This patch fixes that up. It also remembers to free the
skb in the event that an error occurs, so we don't leak. Untested, as
I don't have hardware. I think its pretty straightforward, but please
review closely.

The usual straighforward failure to check for dma_mapping_error after a map

This patch should fix it, the reporter wandered off after filing this bz:

and I don't have hardware to test, but the fix is pretty straightforward, so I

Linus Torvalds
496322bc91 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next
Pull networking updates from David Miller:
"This is a re-do of the net-next pull request for the current merge
window. The only difference from the one I made the other day is that
this has Eliezer's interface renames and the timeout handling changes
made based upon your feedback, as well as a few bug fixes that have
  trickeled in.

  Highlights:

   1) Low latency device polling, eliminating the cost of interrupt
handling and context switches. Allows direct polling of a network
device from socket operations, such as recvmsg() and poll().

Currently ixgbe, mlx4, and bnx2x support this feature.

Full high level description, performance numbers, and design in
      commit 0a4db187a9 ("Merge branch 'll_poll'")

      From Eliezer Tamir.

   2) With the routing cache removed, ip_check_mc_rcu() gets exercised
more than ever before in the case where we have lots of multicast
addresses. Use a hash table instead of a simple linked list, from
      Eric Dumazet.

   3) Add driver for Atheros CQA98xx 802.11ac wireless devices, from
Bartosz Markowski, Janusz Dziedzic, Kalle Valo, Marek Kwaczynski,
Marek Puzyniak, Michal Kazior, and Sujith Manoharan.

   4) Support reporting the TUN device persist flag to userspace, from
      Pavel Emelyanov.

   5) Allow controlling network device VF link state using netlink, from
      Rony Efraim.

   6) Support GRE tunneling in openvswitch, from Pravin B Shelar.

   7) Adjust SOCK_MIN_RCVBUF and SOCK_MIN_SNDBUF for modern times, from
      Daniel Borkmann and Eric Dumazet.

   8) Allow controlling of TCP quickack behavior on a per-route basis,
      from Cong Wang.

   9) Several bug fixes and improvements to vxlan from Stephen
Hemminger, Pravin B Shelar, and Mike Rapoport. In particular,
support receiving on multiple UDP ports.

  10) Major cleanups, particular in the area of debugging and cookie
lifetime handline, to the SCTP protocol code. From Daniel
      Borkmann.

  11) Allow packets to cross network namespaces when traversing tunnel
      devices. From Nicolas Dichtel.

  12) Allow monitoring netlink traffic via AF_PACKET sockets, in a
manner akin to how we monitor real network traffic via ptype_all.
      From Daniel Borkmann.

  13) Several bug fixes and improvements for the new alx device driver,
      from Johannes Berg.

  14) Fix scalability issues in the netem packet scheduler's time queue,
by using an rbtree. From Eric Dumazet.

  15) Several bug fixes in TCP loss recovery handling, from Yuchung
      Cheng.

  16) Add support for GSO segmentation of MPLS packets, from Simon
      Horman.

  17) Make network notifiers have a real data type for the opaque
pointer that's passed into them. Use this to properly handle
network device flag changes in arp_netdev_event(). From Jiri
      Pirko and Timo Teräs.

  18) Convert several drivers over to module_pci_driver(), from Peter
      Huewe.

  19) tcp_fixup_rcvbuf() can loop 500 times over loopback, just use a
O(1) calculation instead. From Eric Dumazet.

  20) Support setting of explicit tunnel peer addresses in ipv6, just
      like ipv4. From Nicolas Dichtel.

  21) Protect x86 BPF JIT against spraying attacks, from Eric Dumazet.

  22) Prevent a single high rate flow from overruning an individual cpu
during RX packet processing via selective flow shedding. From
      Willem de Bruijn.

  23) Don't use spinlocks in TCP md5 signing fast paths, from Eric
      Dumazet.

  24) Don't just drop GSO packets which are above the TBF scheduler's
burst limit, chop them up so they are in-bounds instead. Also
      from Eric Dumazet.

  25) VLAN offloads are missed when configured on top of a bridge, fix
      from Vlad Yasevich.

  26) Support IPV6 in ping sockets. From Lorenzo Colitti.

  27) Receive flow steering targets should be updated at poll() time
      too, from David Majnemer.

  28) Fix several corner case regressions in PMTU/redirect handling due
to the routing cache removal, from Timo Teräs.

  29) We have to be mindful of ipv4 mapped ipv6 sockets in
      upd_v6_push_pending_frames().  From Hannes Frederic Sowa.

  30) Fix L2TP sequence number handling bugs, from James Chapman."

734d4e159b sfc: Fix memory leak when discarding scattered packets
Commit 2768935a46 ('sfc: reuse pages to avoid DMA mapping/unmapping
costs') did not fully take account of DMA scattering which was
introduced immediately before. If a received packet is invalid and
must be discarded, we only drop a reference to the first buffer's
page, but we need to drop a reference for each buffer the packet
used.

I think this bug was missed partly because efx_recycle_rx_buffers()
was not renamed and so no longer does what its name says. It does not
change the state of buffers, but only prepares the underlying pages
for recycling. Rename it accordingly.

74b9272bbe Device tree updates for v3.11
This branch contains the following changes:
 - Removal of CONFIG_OF_DEVICE, it is always enabled by CONFIG_OF
 - Remove #ifdef from linux/of_platform.h to increase compiler syntax
   coverage
 - Bug fix for address decoding on Bimini and js2x powerpc platforms.
 - miscellaneous binding changes

One note on the above. The binding changes going in from all kinds of
different trees has gotten rather out of hand. I picked up some during
this cycle, but even going though my tree isn't a great fit. Ian
Campbell has prototyped splitting the bindings and .dtb files into a
separate repository. The plan is to migrate to using that sometime in
the next few kernel releases which should get rid of a lot of the churn
on binding docs and .dts files.

3dbde57ad9 Pin control changes for the v3.11 kernel cycle:
- A large slew of improvements of the Genric pin configuration
support, and deployment in four different platforms:
   Rockchip, Super-H PFC, ABx500 and TZ1090. Support BIAS_BUS_HOLD,
get device tree parsing and debugfs support into shape.

 - We also have device tree support with generic naming conventions
   for the generic pin configuration.

 - Delete the unused and confusing direct pinconf API. Now state
transitions is *the* way to control pins and multiplexing.

 - New drivers for Rockchip, TZ1090, and TZ1090 PDC.

 - Two pin control states related to power management are now
handled in the device core: "sleep" and "idle", removing a lot
of boilerplate code in drivers. We do not yet know if this is
the final word for pin PM, but it already make things a lot
   easier to handle.

 - Handle sparse GPIO ranges passing a list of disparate pins, and
utilize these in the new BayTrail (x86 Atom SoC) driver.

 - Make the sunxi (AllWinner) driver handle external interrupts.

 - Make it possible for pinctrl-single to handle the case where
several pins are managed by a single register, and augment it to
   handle sleep modes.

 - Cleanups and improvements for the abx500 drivers.

 - Move Sirf pin control drivers to their own directory, support
save/restore of context and add support for the SiRFatlas6 SoC.

 - PMU muxing for the Dove pinctrl driver.

 - Finalization and support for VF610 in the i.MX6 pinctrl driver.

 - Smoothen out various Exynos rough edges.

 - Generic cleanups of various kinds.

Merge tag 'pinctrl-for-v3.11-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl

Pull pin control changes from Linus Walleij:

 - A large slew of improvements of the Genric pin configuration support,
and deployment in four different platforms: Rockchip, Super-H PFC,
ABx500 and TZ1090. Support BIAS_BUS_HOLD, get device tree parsing
   and debugfs support into shape.

 - We also have device tree support with generic naming conventions for
   the generic pin configuration.

 - Delete the unused and confusing direct pinconf API. Now state
transitions is *the* way to control pins and multiplexing.

 - New drivers for Rockchip, TZ1090, and TZ1090 PDC.

 - Two pin control states related to power management are now handled in
the device core: "sleep" and "idle", removing a lot of boilerplate
code in drivers. We do not yet know if this is the final word for
pin PM, but it already make things a lot easier to handle.

 - Handle sparse GPIO ranges passing a list of disparate pins, and
utilize these in the new BayTrail (x86 Atom SoC) driver.

 - Make the sunxi (AllWinner) driver handle external interrupts.

 - Make it possible for pinctrl-single to handle the case where several
pins are managed by a single register, and augment it to handle sleep
   modes.

There is no need to initialize the dump data with zeros.
data is allocated with vzalloc, so it's already zero-filled.

More importantly, the memset is harmful, because dump->len (the length

size is determined by asking the driver's .get_dump_flag method).

a4a1139b24 arc_emac: fix compile-time errors & warnings on PPC64
As reported by "kbuild test robot" there were some errors and warnings
on attempt to build kernel with "make ARCH=powerpc allmodconfig".

And this patch addresses both errors and warnings.
Below is a list of introduced changes:
1. Fix compile-time errors (misspellings in "dma_unmap_single") on PPC.
2. Use DMA address instead of "skb->data" as a pointer to data buffer.
This fixed warnings on pointer to int conversion on 64-bit systems.
3. Re-implemented initial allocation of Rx buffers in "arc_emac_open" in
the same way they're re-allocated during operation (receiving packets).
So once again DMA address could be used instead of "skb->data".
4. Explicitly use EMAC_BUFFER_SIZE for Rx buffers allocation.

6d446ec32f net/tg3: Avoid delay during MMIO access
When the EEH error is the result of a fenced host bridge, MMIO accesses
can be very slow (milliseconds) to timeout and return all 1's,
thus causing the driver various timeout loops to take way too long and
trigger soft-lockup warnings (in addition to taking minutes to recover).

It might be worthwhile to check if for any of these cases, ffffffff is
a valid possible value, and if not, bail early since that means the HW

51151a16a6 mlx4: allow order-0 memory allocations in RX path
Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com>

mlx4 exclusively uses order-2 allocations in RX path, which are
likely to fail under memory pressure.

We therefore drop frames more than needed.

This patch tries order-3, order-2, order-1 and finally order-0
allocations to keep good performance, yet allow allocations if/when
memory gets fragmented.

By using larger pages, and avoiding unnecessary get_page()/put_page()
on compound pages, this patch improves performance as well, lowering
false sharing on struct page.

Also use GFP_KERNEL allocations in initialization path, as allocating 12
MB (390 order-3 pages) can easily fail with GFP_ATOMIC.

3bae9db9aa Merge branch 'for-davem' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bwh/sfc-next
Ben Hutchings says:

====================
1. Make EEH recovery work when using legacy interrupts, from Alexandre
   Rames.

2. Enable accelerated RFS for VLAN-tagged flows, from Andy Lutomirski.

3. Improve performance for non-TCP (and particularly UDP) traffic, which
regressed in 3.10 when we switched to always allocating paged RX
   buffers. Partly by Jon Cooper.

4. Some minor bug fixes to IOMMU detection, timestamping capabilities,
and IRQ cleanup on the probe failure path.

I've dropped the RX skb cache, which improved some benchmarks but
perhaps needs some reworking to be more generally useful.

1899c111a5 sfc: Fix IRQ cleanup in case of a probe failure
The lifetime of an irq_cpu_rmap is odd: we have to allocate it before
installing IRQ handlers and free it before removing the IRQ handlers.
As a result of this asymmetry, it was omitted from some failure paths.

On another failure path, we could try to remove IRQ handlers we
had not yet installed.

Move the irq_cpu_rmap allocation and freeing alongside IRQ handler
installation and removal, in efx_nic_{init,fini}_interrupts().
Count the number of IRQ handlers successfully installed and only
remove those on the failure path.

d13919301d net: fec: Fix build for MCF5272
Commits 4c09eed9 (net: fec: Enable imx6 enet checksum acceleration) and
baa70a5c (net: fec: enable pause frame to improve rx prefomance for 1G
network) introduced functionality into the FEC driver which is not
supported on MCF5272. The registers used to implement this functionality
do not exist on MCF5272. Since register defines for MCF5272 are separate
from register defines for other chips, building images for MCF5272 fails
as follows.

fec_main.c: In function 'fec_restart':
fec_main.c:520:8: error: 'FEC_RACC' undeclared (first use in this function)
fec_main.c:585:3: error: 'FEC_R_FIFO_RSEM' undeclared (first use in this function)

fec_main.c:591:3: error: 'FEC_OPD' undeclared (first use in this function)

Adding the missing register defines is not an option, since the registers
do not exist on MCF5272. Disable the added functionality for MCF5272 builds.

d98cae64e4 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Conflicts:
	drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/Kconfig
	drivers/net/xen-netback/netback.c
	net/batman-adv/bat_iv_ogm.c
	net/wireless/nl80211.c

The ath9k Kconfig conflict was a change of a Kconfig option name right
next to the deletion of another option.

The xen-netback conflict was overlapping changes involving the
handling of the notify list in xen_netbk_rx_action().

Batman conflict resolution provided by Antonio Quartulli, basically
keep everything in both conflict hunks.

The nl80211 conflict is a little more involved. In 'net' we added a
dynamic memory allocation to nl80211_dump_wiphy() to fix a race that
Linus reported. Meanwhile in 'net-next' the handlers were converted
to use pre and post doit handlers which use a flag to determine
whether to hold the RTNL mutex around the operation.

However, the dump handlers to not use this logic. Instead they have
to explicitly do the locking. There were apparent bugs in the
conversion of nl80211_dump_wiphy() in that we were not dropping the
RTNL mutex in all the return paths, and it seems we very much should
be doing so. So I fixed that whilst handling the overlapping changes.

To simplify the initial returns, I take the RTNL mutex after we try
to allocate 'tb'.

ab69bde6b2 alx: add a simple AR816x/AR817x device driver

More features can obviously be added, but this seemed like

72bb72b0d9 tg3: Prevent system hang during repeated EEH errors.
The current tg3 code assumes the pci_error_handlers to be always called
in sequence. In particular, during ->error_detected(), NAPI is disabled
and the device is shutdown. The device is later reset and NAPI
re-enabled in ->slot_reset() and ->resume().

In EEH, if more than 6 errors are detected in a hour, only
->error_detected() will be called. This will leave the driver in an
inconsistent state as NAPI is disabled but netif_running state is still
true. When the device is later closed, we'll try to disable NAPI again
and it will loop forever.

We fix this by closing the device if we encounter any error conditions
during the normal sequence of the pci_error_handlers.

3dc6475c0c bcm63xx_enet: add support Broadcom BCM6345 Ethernet
This patch adds support for the Broadcom BCM6345 SoC Ethernet. BCM6345
has a slightly different and older DMA engine which requires the
following modifications:

- the width of the DMA channels on BCM6345 is 64 bytes vs 16 bytes,
which means that the helpers enet_dma{c,s} need to account for this
channel width and we can no longer use macros

- BCM6345 DMA engine does not have any internal SRAM for transfering
  buffers

- BCM6345 buffer allocation and flow control is not per-channel but
  global (done in RSET_ENETDMA)

- the DMA engine bits are right-shifted by 3 compared to other DMA
  generations

- the DMA enable/interrupt masks are a little different (we need to
  enabled more bits for 6345)

- some register have the same meaning but are offsetted in the ENET_DMAC
space so a lookup table is required to return the proper offset

The MAC itself is identical and requires no modifications to work.

cc60ab0a8b drivers: net: davinci_mdio: restore mdio clk divider in mdio resume
During suspend resume cycle all the register data is lost, so MDIO
clock divier value gets reset. This patch restores the clock divider
value.

df465abfe0 tg3: Wait for boot code to finish after power on
Some systems that don't need wake-on-lan may choose to power down the
chip on system standby. Upon resume, the power on causes the boot code
to startup and initialize the hardware. On one new platform, this is
causing the device to go into a bad state due to a race between the
driver and boot code, once every several hundred resumes. The same race
exists on open since we come up from a power on.

This patch adds a wait for boot code signature at the beginning of
tg3_init_hw() which is common to both cases. If there has not been a
power-off or the boot code has already completed, the signature will be
present and poll_fw() returns immediately. Also return immediately if
the device does not have firmware.

8f728d7934 sh_eth: split 'sh_eth_netdev_ops'
Commit 9f86134155 (sh_eth: remove SH_ETH_HAS_TSU)
removes 'const' from 'sh_eth_netdev_ops' and modifies it in case TSU registers
are present. I've originally suggested to Iwamatsu-san to split this structure
in two instead and afterwards Dave M. suggested doing the same.
Split 'sh_eth_netdev_ops_tsu' from 'sh_eth_netdev_ops', making both 'const', and
assigning 'ndev->detdev_ops' depending on the presence of TSU registers.

Older Single Queue (SQ_SG_MODE) devices like TSEC (i.e. mpc83xx)
don't feature the frame receive indication bits (RXF) in RSTAT.
For these and for the rest of the SQ_SG_MODE devices, provide the
appropiate polling routine that handles a single pair of Rx/Tx
BD rings, removing the overhead incurred by the multiple queues/
multiple interrupt group devices (veTSEC/ eTSEC2.0 devices).
So this is primarily a fix for the TSEC devices.
