If booting a device using EFI, efifb will likely come up and claim the
console. When the msm display stack finally comes up, we want the
console to move over to the msm fb, so add support to kick out any
firmware based framebuffers to accomplish the console transition.

This switches the MSM HDMI code to use GPIO descriptors.
Normally we would fetch the GPIOs from the device with the
flags GPIOD_IN or GPIOD_OUT_[LOW|HIGH] to set up the lines
immediately, but since the code seems eager to actively
drive the lines high/low when turning HDMI on and off, we
just fetch the GPIOs as-is and keep the code explicitly
driving them.
The old code would try legacy bindings (GPIOs without any
"-gpios" suffix) but this has been moved to the gpiolib
as a quirk by the previous patch.

The DPU has some kind of idea that it wants to be able to
bring up power using GPIO lines. The struct dss_gpio is however
completely unused and should this be done, it should be done
using the GPIO descriptor framework rather than this API
which relies on the global GPIO numberspace. Delete this
code before anyone hurt themselves.
The inclusion of <linux/gpio.h> was abused to get some OF
and IRQ headers implicitly included into the DPU utilities,
make these includes explicit and push them down into the actual
implementation.

Drop the deprecated drmP.h header file, and trim msm_drv.h

This resulted in a suprisingly many edits as many files relied
on headers included via msm_drv.h.
But msm_drv.h is not supposed to carry include files it do not need, so
the individual files have to include what extra they needs.

add_gpu_components() adds found GPU nodes from the DT to the match list,
regardless of the status of the nodes. This is a problem, because if the
nodes are disabled, they should not be on the match list because they will
not be matched. This prevents display from initing if a GPU node is
defined, but it's status is disabled.
Fix this by checking the node's status before adding it to the match list.

The mdp5 drm/kms driver currently does not work on command-mode DSI
panels due to 'vblank wait timed out' errors. This causes a latency
of seconds, or tens of seconds in some cases, before content is shown
on the panel. This hardware does not have the something that we can use
as a frame counter available when running in command mode, so we need to
fall back to using timestamps by setting the max_vblank_count to zero.
This can be done on a per-CRTC basis, so the convert mdp5 to use
drm_crtc_set_max_vblank_count().
This change was tested on a LG Nexus 5 (hammerhead) phone.

add_display_components() calls of_platform_populate, and we depopluate
on pdev remove, but not when probe fails. So if we get a probe deferral
in one of the components, we won't depopulate the platform. This causes
the core to keep references to devices which should be destroyed, which
causes issues when those same devices try to re-initialize on the next
probe attempt.
I think this is the reason we had issues with the gmu's device-managed
resources on deferral (worked around in commit 94e3a17f33a5).

The interconnect framework is designed to provide a
standard kernel interface to control the settings of
the interconnects on a SoC.
The interconnect API uses a consumer/provider-based model,
where the providers are the interconnect buses and the
consumers could be various drivers.
MDSS is one of the interconnect consumers which uses the
interconnect APIs to get the path between endpoints and
set its bandwidth requirement for the given interconnected
path.
Changes in v2:
- Remove error log and unnecessary check (Jordan Crouse)
Changes in v3:
- Code clean involving variable name change, removal
of extra paranthesis and variables (Matthias Kaehlcke)
Changes in v4:
- Add comments, spacings, tabs, proper port name
and icc macro (Georgi Djakov)
Changes in v5:
- Commit text and parenthesis alignment (Georgi Djakov)
Changes in v6:
- Change to new icc_set API's (Doug Anderson)
Changes in v7:
- Fixed a typo
Changes in v8:
- Handle the of_icc_get() returning NULL case. In practice
icc_set_bw() will gracefully handle the case of a NULL path,
but it's probably best for clarity to keep num_paths=0 in
this case.

The gmu driver is initialized and cleaned up with calls from the gpu driver. As
such, the platform device stays valid after a6xx_gmu_remove is called and the
device managed resources are not freed. In the case of gpu probe failures or
unbind, these resources will remain managed.
If the gpu bind is run again (eg: if there's a probe defer somewhere in msm),
these resources will be initialized again for the same device, creating multiple
references. In the case of irqs, this causes failures since the irqs are
not shared (nor should they be).
This patch removes all devm_* calls and manually cleans things up in
gmu_remove.

The driver checks for gmu->mmio as a sign that the device has been
initialized, however there are failures in probe below the mmio init.
If one of those is hit, mmio will be non-null but freed.
In that case, a6xx_gmu_probe will return an error to a6xx_gpu_init which
will in turn call a6xx_gmu_remove which checks gmu->mmio and tries to free
resources for a second time. This causes a great boom.
Fix this by adding an initialized member to gmu which is set on
successful probe and cleared on removal.

So far, the drm_format_plane_cpp function was operating on the format's
fourcc and was doing a lookup to retrieve the drm_format_info structure and
return the cpp.
However, this is inefficient since in most cases, we will have the
drm_format_info pointer already available so we shouldn't have to perform a
new lookup. Some drm_fourcc functions also already operate on the
drm_format_info pointer for that reason, so the API is quite inconsistent
there.
Let's follow the latter pattern and remove the extra lookup while being a
bit more consistent. In order to be extra consistent, also rename that
function to drm_format_info_plane_cpp and to a static function in the
header to match the current policy.

drm_format_horz_chroma_subsampling and drm_format_vert_chroma_subsampling
are basically a lookup in the drm_format_info table plus an access to the
hsub and vsub fields of the appropriate entry.
Most drivers are using this function while having access to the entry
already, which means that we will perform an unnecessary lookup. Removing
the call to these functions is therefore more efficient.
Some drivers will not have access to that entry in the function, but in
this case the overhead is minimal (we just have to call drm_format_info()
to perform the lookup) and we can even avoid multiple, inefficient lookups
in some places that need multiple fields from the drm_format_info
structure.
This is amplified by the fact that most of the time the callers will have
to retrieve both the vsub and hsub fields, meaning that they would perform
twice the lookup.

The a6xx GPU powers on in secure mode which restricts what memory it can
write to. To get out of secure mode the GPU driver can write to
REG_A6XX_RBBM_SECVID_TRUST_CNTL but on targets that are "secure" that
register region is blocked and writes will cause the system to go down.
For those targets we need to execute a special sequence that involves
loadinga special shader that clears the GPU registers and use a PM4
sequence to pull the GPU out of secure. Add support for loading the zap

99.999% of the time during normal operation the GMU is responsible
for power and clock control on the GX domain and the CPU remains
blissfully unaware. However, there is one situation where the CPU
needs to get involved:
The power sequencing rules dictate that the GX needs to be turned
off before the CX so that the CX can be turned on before the GX
during power up. During normal operation when the CPU is taking
down the CX domain a stop command is sent to the GMU which turns
off the GX domain and then the CPU handles the CX domain.
But if the GMU happened to be unresponsive while the GX domain was
left then the CPU will need to step in and turn off the GX domain
before resetting the CX and rebooting the GMU. This unfortunately
means that the CPU needs to be marginally aware of the GX domain
even though it is expected to usually keep its hands off.
To support this we create a semi-disabled GX power domain that
does nothing to the hardware on power up but tries to shut it
down normally on power down. In this method the reference counting
is correct and we can step in with the pm_runtime_put() at the right
time during the failure path.
This patch sets up the connection to the GX power domain and does
the magic to "enable" and disable it at the right points.

Add the capability to query information from a submit queue.
The first available parameter is for querying the number of GPU faults
(hangs) that can be attributed to the queue.
This is useful for implementing context robustness. A user context can
regularly query the number of faults to see if it is responsible for any
and if so it can invalidate itself.
This is also helpful for testing by confirming to the user driver if a
particular command stream caused a fault (or not as the case may be).

for easy switching to state based allocation using
private objects later in this series.

a hw interface assigned to it. So there is really no

The frame_busy mask is used in frame_done event handling, which is not
invoked for async commits. So an async commit will leave the
frame_busy mask populated after it completes and future commits will start
with the busy mask incorrect.
This showed up on disable after cursor move. I was hitting the "this should
not happen" comment in the frame event worker since frame_busy was set,
we queued the event, but there were no frames pending (since async
also doesn't set that).

In the case of an async/cursor update, we don't wait for the frame_done
event, which means handle_frame_done is never called, and the frame_done
watchdog isn't canceled. Currently, this results in a frame_done timeout
every time the cursor moves without a synchronous frame following it up
before the timeout expires. Since we don't wait for frame_done, and
don't handle it, we shouldn't modify the watchdog.

There exists a bunch of confusion as to what the actual units of
frame_done is:
- The definition states it's in # of frames
- CRTC treats it like it's ms
- frame_done_timeout comment thinks it's Hz, but it stores ms
- frame_done timer is setup such that it _should_ be in frames, but the
timeout is super long
So this patch tries to interpret what the driver really wants. I've
de-centralized the #define since the consumers are expecting different
units.
For crtc, we just use 60ms since that's what it was doing before.
Perhaps we could get fancy and scale with vrefresh, but that's for
another time.
For encoder, fix the comments and rename frame_done_timeout so it's
obvious what the units are. In practice, frame_done_timeout is really
just checked against 0 || !0, which I guess is why the units being wrong
didn't matter. I've also dropped the timeout from the previous 60 frames
to 5. That seems like more than enough time to give up on a frame, and
my guess is that no one intended for the timeout to _actually_ be 60
frames.

Currently the IOMMU code calls pm_runtime_get/put on the GPU or display
device before doing a IOMMU operation. This was because usually the
IOMMU driver didn't do power control of its own and since the hardware
used the same clocks and power as the respective multimedia device it
was a easy way to make sure that the power was available.
Now two things have changed. First, the SMMU devices can do their own power
control and more important bringing up the a6xx GPU isn't as easy as
turning on some clocks. To bring the GPU up we need the GMU which itself
needs the IOMMU so we have a chicken and egg problem.
Luckily this is easily fixed by removing the pm_runtime calls from the
functions and letting the device link to the IOMMU device handle the magic.

The pages backing the GEM objects are kept pinned in place as
long as they are alive, so they must not be allocated from the
MOVABLE zone. Blocking page migration for too long will cause
the VM subsystem headaches and will outright break CMA, as a
few pinned pages in CMA will lead to failure to find the
required large contiguous regions.

Devices that make up DPU, i.e. graphics card, request their interrupts
from this "virtual" interrupt chip. The interrupt chip builds upon a GIC
SPI interrupt that raises high when any of the interrupts in the DPU's
irq status register are triggered. From the kernel's perspective this is
a chained irq chip, so requesting a flow handler for the GIC SPI and
then calling generic IRQ handling code from that irq handler is not
completely proper. It's better to convert this to a chained irq so that
the GIC SPI irq doesn't appear in /proc/interrupts, can't have CPU
affinity changed, and won't be accounted for with irq stats. Doing this
also silences a recursive lockdep warning because we can specify a
different lock class for the chained interrupts, silencing a warning

RM was equipped with reservation tracking structure RSVP
to cache HW reservation of displays for certain clients
where atomic_checks (atomic commit with TEST_ONLY) for all
the displays are called before their respective atomic_commits.
Since DPU doesn't support the sequence anymore, clean up
the support from RM. Replace rsvp with the corresponding
encoder id to tag the HW blocks reserved. It prepares DPU

The bindings for Qualcomm opp levels changed after being Acked but
before landing. Thus the code in the GPU driver that was relying on
the old bindings is now broken.
Let's change the code to match the new bindings by adjusting the old
string 'qcom, level' to the new string 'opp-level'. See the patch
("dt-bindings: opp: Introduce opp-level bindings").
NOTE: we will do additional cleanup to totally remove the string from

Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in
the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is
confusing. Split them out.
To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all
drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of
drm_crtc_helper.h includes.
v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers
that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1.
v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but
not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h
there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means
rolling out lots more includes all over.
This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I
expect.
v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs.
v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits:
- (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in
other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged).
- sort alphabetically
v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I
touch.
v6: Rebase onto i915 changes.
v7: Rebase once more.

Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.
It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.
A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.
This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.
There were a couple of notable cases:
- csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.
- the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
really used it)
- microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout
but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.
I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

Instead of assigning/clearing the crtc on vblank enable/disable, we can
just assign and clear the crtc on modeset. That allows us to just toggle
the encoder's vblank interrupts on vblank_enable.
So why is this important? Previously the driver was using the legacy
pointers to assign/clear the crtc. Legacy pointers are cleared _after_
disabling the hardware, so the legacy pointer was valid during
vblank_disable, but that's not something we should rely on.
Instead of relying on the core ordering the legacy pointer assignments
just so, we'll assign the crtc in dpu_crtc enable/disable. This is the
only place that mapping can change, so we're covered there.
We're also taking advantage of drm_crtc_vblank_on/off. By using this, we
ensure that vblank_enable/disable can never be called while the crtc is
off (which means the assigned crtc will always be valid). As such, we
don't need to use modeset locks or the crtc_lock in the
vblank_enable/disable routine to be sure state is consistent.
...I think.

useful when there's only one callsite. So instead of having the

I think the intention here was to protect the enc->crtc access, but
that's insufficient to avoid enc->crtc changing. Fortunately we're
already holding the modeset lock when this is called (from
atomic_check), so remove the crtc_lock and add a modeset lock check.
While we're at it, use the encoder mask from crtc state instead of

There are 4 times that _dpu_crtc_vblank_enable_no_lock() is called:
1- crtc enable
2- crtc disable
3- crtc vblank enable
4- crtc vblank disable
When we enable or disable the crtc, we call drm_crtc_vblank_on and
drm_crtc_vblank_off respectively. That will gate vblank enables and
disables to only being called when the crtc is active. That means that
we can just enable/disable pm runtime in crtc enable/disable. This will
be beneficial in trying to eliminate blocking calls from the vblank call
chain.

The crtc runtime resume doesn't actually operate on the crtc, but rather
its encoders. The problem with this is that we need to inspect the crtc
state to get the currently connected encoders. Since runtime resume
isn't guaranteed to be called while holding the modeset locks (although
it sometimes is), this presents a race condition.
Now that we have ->enabled on the virtual encoders, and a lock to
protect it, just call resume on each encoder and only restore the ones
that are enabled.

This patch allows using drm/msm without qcom display hardware. It adds a
amd, imageon compatible, which is used instead of qcom, adreno, but does
not require a top level msm node.

A2XX has its own very simple MMU.
Added a msm_use_mmu() function because we can't rely on iommu_present to
decide to use MMU or not.

When trying to get the display up on my sdm845 board I noticed that
the display wouldn't probe if I had the dsi1 node marked as "disabled"
even though my board doesn't use dsi1. It looks like the msm code
adds all nodes to its list of components even if they are disabled. I
believe this doesn't work because all registered components need to
come up before we finish probing. Let's do like other DRM code and
only add available components.

This patch sprinkles a few async/legacy_cursor_update checks
through commit to ensure that cursor updates aren't blocked on vsync.
There are 2 main components to this, the first is that we don't want to
wait_for_commit_done in msm_atomic before returning from atomic_complete.
The second is that in dpu we don't want to wait for frame_done events when
updating the cursor.

There exists a case where a flush of a plane/dma may have been triggered
& started from an async commit. If that plane/dma is subsequently disabled
by the next commit, the flush register will continue to hold the flush
bit for the disabled plane. Since the bit remains active,
pending_kickoff_cnt will never decrement and we'll miss frame_done
events.
This patch limits the check of flush_register to include only those bits
which have been updated with the latest commit.

In case of msm drm bind failure, dpu_mdss_destroy is triggered.
In this function, resources are freed and pm runtime disable is
called, which triggers dpu_mdss_disable. Now in dpu_mdss_disable,
driver tries to access a memory which is already freed. This
results in kernel panic. Fix this by ensuring proper sequence
of dpu destroy and disable calls.
